finished watching netflix atla! i think the hate is unjustified lol like all that hate seems a little too intense for what i think the show missed. it didn't hit all the same notes as the original show, yeah, so i'm not sure it quite succeeds as an adaptation, but as a standalone show it's pretty good. and i might have some gripes with the characterization, but there was love in the casting and in the costumes and the world, and that goes a long way for me.

I have this feeling, the show is going to pull the old "step in for FML as a quick stand-in (line rehearsal scene *sweet rising tension*) or make her an extra"... Paralleling yet another moment from their past. CAN WE SURVIVE THAT!!! Seeing them step into the roles of their previous lives, all that weight *1500 yrs worth,* is just a different kind of hurt/tragic. I'm just LIVING for everything this show is serving!!

ㅤborn on june 30th at 3:40 am to eunji byun, a woman who never had any intention of raising a child, byan was taken home by their adoptive parents, hye-jin yoon and dae-seong lee, a couple who had never been able to have a child of their own and had eagerly awaited their arrival. given the name yeong-hwan lee, they were treated exactly as if they were the couple's biological son and learned to refer to the two as eomma and appa (mom and dad).

this was the only period in their life where byan had a very "normal" childhood. and it was good! they were a happy, outgoing kid from the start, always curious and full of energy. they felt loved. they were loved. they don't remember it, but they were even taken to korea to meet their parents' extended family when they were two.

things were good, and it seemed like they were only going to get better when hye-jin unexpectedly discovered that she was pregnant.

byan's sister, hwa-young, was born on september 9th, when they were four years old. given her name because hye-jin was fond of the idea of her children having similar names, even byan was excited by this, and by the concept of having a baby sister. things remained exciting for the first few weeks, but as time passed and the newness of having a baby in the house began to wear off, things started to get... complicated. neither parent had particularly high paying jobs, and hye-jin couldn't afford to take much of a maternity leave. she worked from home, but between work, household chores, and hwa-young, neither she nor dae-seong had much time left over for byan, let alone for themselves. needless to say, it was a stressful time, and with money and energy running thin, byan beginning to act out a couple months in due to a lack in the attention they were used to having didn't exactly help matters.

only a few months before their fifth birthday, byan was placed into the care of a foster family. it wasn't an easy decision for either of their parents to make, but they had never planned for two children and no longer believed that they could properly support or give them both the life they deserved. the decision was made thinking that it would give byan the opportunity for something better, and that if things ever turned around for the family, they could eventually be brought back.

ㅤ—of course, that never happened.

contact was kept for a while, but when it seemed to only make things harder on byan, and subsequently harder on all of them, the decision to cut contact completely and all at once was made. the thought process was that if byan stopped waiting and hoping for the day that they'd get to come home, maybe they would eventually allow themself to settle with another family. at least they were probably young enough that they wouldn't remember all that much from their first four years, right? surely they would move on, and eventually be happier for it.

the last thing byan remembers hearing from eomma and appa didn't even come directly from them. it came through their foster mother, who tried to make it sound exciting that their last name had been changed from lee to byun.

#i uh. i've been wanting to flesh out more of byan's history. naturally the beginning seemed like a good place to start. #i like to think that hye-jin and dae-seong's hearts were in the right place... #but they were more selfish in their choices than they realized and the execution was overall absolutely terrible #byan was left scarred and abandoned and ended up blaming themself for what happened for a very long time #thinking that maybe there's something fundamentally wrong with them #or that maybe if they'd behaved better or been quieter they would have been able to stay #and of course those were thoughts that only ended up reinforced throughout several of the foster homes they'd go through #when really they were just extremely unlucky. like. that's it. purely bad luck and unfortunate circumstances and poor decisions #which they had no say in whatsoever #anyway i'm rambling. this was supposed to be a short hc idk what happened i'm supposed to be answering asks rn... #au where the family is better off and byan gets to grow up in a loving family when #━━ ˟ ⊰ ✰ headcanon ⋮ danger in the fabric of this thing i made.

I love how Daeran can initiate things at first if you don't. It's like he romances the commander, not the other way around lol. It's a rare thing in games.

Omg yes, you are so right anon! For Salvadore, it was a very new experience. Usually, he is the one who does the courting and strong romantic gestures. He felt terribly flattered and slightly overwhelmed (in the best possible way) to find himself on the receiving end now. I mean, he answered it with strong romantic gestures of his own anyway of course, so it's the giving and the receiving end both for him, still, Daeran has a talent to, how to phrase this ... Daeran has the talent to make the Commander seen. The romance feels meaningful and natural due to the fact that the effort is mutual. The Knight Commander works to truly get to know Daeran, is there for him, helps him with the Other, etc., but Daeran meets them halfway, initiates flirts, makes those incredible gifts, and thinks about the relationship on a profound level - something we get hints and eventually proof for over and over again. There were so many games where we bought/found a love interest a gift and then had the option to comment on them wearing it. Here it's the other way around and it truly adds to the depth of it all. I never saw a romance this well-written in any game before. The connected conversations are spicy, funny, or highly emotional and always on point, it uses beloved tropes but changes them to fit the characters and well, of course, Daeran himself is incredibly multi-faceted and interesting. I recently had this conversation with a friend: You only truly get to know Daeran on the deepest possible level, with all his vulnerabilities and fears and hopes, if you romance him. If you don't, he keeps an important part of himself away from view, even with a trusted commander he cherishes a lot. This full picture is only meant for someone he loves in this life-changing way. It makes the whole relationship feel so deeply special.

Uhh absolutely you can ask but I promise,,, there's not anything particularly interesting happening lol.

The au really was just some silly sketches for me to do, there's no real story going beside,,like...it's just the plot of FullMetal Alchemist but instead it's TMNT characters.

Sorry if that's a bit disappointing I didn't rewrite anything big. At least right now, I might change that if people really want to see me rework this au and actually give it new plot (??)

17. Who fell in love first? Ah, this has been Salvadore, no question. They were intrigued by each other from the beginning, from the first meeting even, and started to flirt with each other and to tease each other. Nonetheless, it took a while until they allowed themselves deeper feelings or found themselves unable to fight those any longer. Both had been taught and/or had been forced to not let anyone close in their past. Salvadore broke this habit for Daeran earlier – and more deliberately – than Daeran for him the other way around. He was already pining and yearning for the deep emotional bond he felt they could share when Daeran still only admitted on passion, in front of himself as well. Of course, they both were courting each other, making expensive gifts, spending many beautiful moments together, and recognizing that they felt most free and happy when they were around each other. But it was Salvadore who knew (or accepted) first that Daeran is the one, the one he would give and do anything for, the one he wants to spend his whole life with. (Yes, he believes in those sappy ideals, strongly so, and lives them if he gets the chance.) Daeran, on the other hand, needed time to accept feelings of that sort. Being quite adept at concealing his emotions, it took lots of work from both sides for Daeran to allow true closeness. Salvadore surprised him with the deep nature of his intentions and had to prove them to him and to constantly try and look behind Daeran’s snarky facades even when he was still trying to hide the rest (luckily in many moments he failed at keeping it secret), Daeran for his part had to break through layers of his own fear and the convenience of his mask of indifference and the loneliness behind. More precisely, I can say that Salvadore was fully in love and aware of it during early act 3 already, Daeran needed until act 4 to vaguely admit his true feelings in front of himself and until the middle of act 5 to actually accept them and to act on them. 37. What do they like the least about each other? For Salvadore, it’s the mess that Daeran leaves here and there. He likes his space very clean and tidy, Daeran doesn’t care. Luckily, they have servants. – Servants Sal might order around rudely sometimes if he’s annoyed by his husband’s stuff where it doesn't belong – before he’ll snarl at Daeran himself. ((The truth is though, he wouldn’t want to miss the occasional mess anymore.)) Sometimes Daeran overdoes it with his barbed comments regarding his angel abilities or the fact that he’s a politician or his sense of duty. It happens that Salvadore, despite knowing and loving Daeran's habit of making fun of others – himself included in certain ways, he highly enjoys their mutual teasing –, is hurt when he goes too far. Fortunately, it never takes long until Daeran makes it up to him; rarely by an apology of course, but by letting him feel and know how deeply he loves him and, yes, for those abilities he sometimes mocks him with as well. There are phases in which Salvadore buries himself in work too much. Daeran acts displeased when he overdoes it. But he has the talent to pull him out of it and remind him to take breaks and lures him with the pleasant things in life he highly enjoys as well and of course with his own company. Salvadore can almost never resist him. Furthermore, Daeran doesn’t like it when Salvadore gets too bossy. It’s those moments when their egos clash. Daeran strongly cherishes his arrogance and finds it extremely endearing but the moment he tries to order him around without thinking in a stressful moment – and without noticing because he’s just so used to a commanding tone –, Daeran gets annoyed. Of course, he wouldn’t ever show it or talk about it just like that. Instead, it may lead to petty acts of vengeance to make Sal’s working day harder. This will annoy Salvadore in return and cause him to get mad in a heated way he’s not used to from himself. (Usually his anger is of a cold, distanced nature, but not with Daeran.) The result may be angry sex or in bad cases, sharp comments and condescending arguments in the attempt to hurt each other, slammed doors and some days of disappearing from the other one’s space until one of them can’t stand it anymore, buys a gift – that’s definitely not a confession of having been wrong – and visits the other one, gently calling him an insufferable fool perhaps and finding himself captured in a harsh kiss as an answer. 38. What was their most memorable date? Of course, their very first one will always be a special, deeply beloved memory for both of them. But well! It was not a date after all, so maybe the first one after their victory when they met high over the city a second time to eat and drink together and talk all night until they switched to heated kisses instead? Or the many beautiful evenings at all the pleasant and/or exciting places Absalom and Nerosyan – and later Drezen too – have to offer? Visits to the theaters, operas, varietés, restaurants, taverns, markets, gardens and parks, galas, festivities, the countless parties …? Or one of all their cozy dinners at home with the games they play and the comfort of each other’s love and company, safe from all the world? No, they wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite or one that’s shining brighter than the others. Instead, they continue to create memorable moments along their way and wherever they go.
