thinking about this page and how, even though his wording is very subtle, gen actually prefers the stone world to a modern one and maybe doesn't really want to go back... hmmm

maybe gen is the one to tell senku to stop his quest of saving everyone, to finally let his father go. stone world science can do impossible things, senku proved it himself, but maybe some things shouldn't be done, even if they are possible...

oh and they can have a fight too. senku would call gen selfish for not wanting to save everyone, the number of lives lost to petrification must be massive. and gen would agree; he is the most selfish person on earth after all

Imagine if Sai had joined the gang right after they retrieved the platinum and before they set off for America. The frostiness that would be present between him and Ryusui, and his refusal to even interact with his brother if he could help it. He’s willing to join them, but he’s not explaining his dislike of the situation.

Gen tries to get to the bottom of it, but Sai hasn’t seen the group photo Minami took of everyone in front of the Perseus, so there’s no real inciting incident for Sai opening up. But as the weeks go on, Gen starts to gain Sai’s trust, and is trying to think of how to get the two brothers to actually talk it out.

And then they reach America and everyone is now laser focused on escaping Stanley. Gen’s still trying to help the Nanamis to reconcile with Francois’ support, but everyone’s on edge and the time doesn’t feel right.

Finally, Gen manages to confront Sai about how Ryusui clearly looks up to him and wants to spend time with him and how yes he can seem pushy but he’s never demanded anything from Sai in his life, only asked to play with his big brother. And Sai spends the night thinking. Does he really want things to be like this forever, the two of them isolated from each other?

And then the next day Ryusui gets shot in the chest multiple times.

Sai’s holding him close, yelling at him to keep breathing until the petrifying light reaches them. He starts getting more desperate as Ryusui doesn’t seem to respond for a moment, saying he’ll code a billion sailing simulators if it means Ryusui will say something.

Ryusui finally coughs, smiles, and says, “When we’re unpetrified, will you play a game with me?”

And as they turn to stone Sai exhales and says, “Of course.”
