Ray didn’t answer, just stepped closer and leaned an elbow on the kitchen island. Silently, he held up the Sunset Curve CD. Both Julie and Carlos went still, eyes wide, and that was all the answer he needed.

“So. Who’s explaining?”

Aka, Ray suddenly has three dead teenagers living in his house. So he does what any sane person would do: he basically adopts them.

bobbywilliealex!!! (bobby x willie x alex bc mashed together words can be hard to read)

This is assuming Bobby also became a ghost at around the same age as the other boys, so shortly after they died. I think he would come back before them and he and Willie would get on like a house on fire. I just see him with a mix of traits from Alex and Willie (all of them have parts of each other) and they would work together so well. He has the most common sense of anyone in Sunset Curve I think, but he also would love being impulsive and “breaking into” random places

and screaming in museums

with Willie, and he wouldn’t have any qualms because they’re ghosts, and he knows they won’t get caught. He strikes me as the most responsible but that doesn’t mean he won’t do dumb stuff, he knows how to have a good time, he just wants to make sure there won’t be consequences, and there won’t be. Alex is more irrational fear (not that that’s a bad thing) as in he worries about doing stuff even though they’re ghosts and he would be more hesitant to go do dumb shit, also because he worries about them, but he would be great to talk to and chill with and he’s a very important part of their relationship because without him Bobby and Willie spend most of their time running away from their feelings together, which certainly brings them closer but isn’t exactly healthy. ANYwho I just realized I’ve been rambling a lot but I just love the dynamic of this ship i just came up with and i hope you like it too!!

okay i'll talk about one general, big-concept thing and then point out a few easter eggs from my personal life

So the thing I struggled with at the beginning of planning this was "How am I going to have these two characters, who have JUST met, fall in love in such a short time frame and also have it be believable/not feel rushed?" I sort of just jumped in with that in the back of my mind as I wrote, and as the tension started building I was like "Shit, okay, we need to figure this out." I was flipping through some old books I have for an unrelated class assignment, and I picked up They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (which, this is the only book that has made me cry, like full-on bawling ugly cry, so 10/10 recommend). And there's an idea in there right at the end that essentially the two characters tell each other that they know they would've fallen in love with the other if they only had more time (which OUCH). And then a little light bulb went off in my brain; neither Alex or Willie are going to end up dying (I feel like that's not a spoiler bc I tagged it as Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies), but I took the sentiment of that book and tweaked it to be more like "I have just met you, but I know one day I'm going to fall in love with you." I wanted to take that same feeling that Rufus and Mateo have in their story and give it to Willie and Alex. So maybe that line/sentiment will pop up in the future, who knows ;)

okay now for some fun easter eggs:

- Chapter 2: NO ONE mentioned my stupid lil "which ear is the gay ear" joke in the comments of that chapter and i'm so salty bc i thought it was hilarious. /j

- Obviously music is a big part of JATP, so I try to incorporate it wherever I can, and I very deliberately only mention older bands/songs that I would consider rock/indie-rock classics so as not to date the piece (with the exception of mentioning Hippo Campus, bc it is set in 2021 after all and I think Sunset Curve and Hippo Campus would be a BANGER of a show). Any band or song I mention, I absolutely love, too.

- Chapter 5: When Willie tells Alex about the time he took a chunk out of his own tire... that is a personal anecdote 🙃

- I try to pull from the show as often as I can, so if something seems like a callback to the show, it definitely is!

- Chapter 7: Luke's nickname of "discount harry styles" came from when I showed my friend the first episode of JATP and they made that comment, and Bobby's nickname of "Boobert" is actually what my dad and I call my step-uncle lmao

- Chapter 9: Willie's friend that he mentions, Victoria, is actually a shout out to my best friend of ten years who recently moved to Texas. She has no clue what JATP is and doesn't even know I'm writing this fic, but I miss her dearly and wanted to give her a lil cameo.

- 9 times out of 10 any location mentioned is actually real, I do my best to look up actual places that exist in each city and make it as authentic as possible

yo i might get rant-y in this ask and need to send multiple and i’m so sorry in advance but i saw your post about letting people like/dislike whatever characters they want and then specifically addressing bobby in the tags and it brought up FEELINGS for me. like i lowkey feel like you made that post bc you saw the same one/ones i did and i just - i need to get it out there ... i don’t understand - people being upset at bobby antis/people not liking bobby ... like y’all do realize that ... all the fanon stuff you think up for him ... isn’t real? like - canonically ... we see the dude for 10 minutes total? maybe? of screentime. and all we really know about him is that he in the band with the other boys and then betrayed them ... like ... that’s literally it. i know they all wanna make up all these excuses and backstories for him and stuff but - to anyone who isn’t a bobby fan, that isn’t how we see him? like i’m sorry it upsets you but ... you can’t make people follow your fanon and view this character the way you want them to when ... the show tells us what kind of character he’s supposed to be ... like. the show gives us the narrative he is not a good guy ... so that’s the narrative i’m gonna follow. sorry not sorry. and people aren’t bad because they don’t like him or stan him or whatever??? like we’re not /supposed/ to - like i-i just ... i don’t understand. and getting so upset at people not wanting to include him in sunset curve in fics or as the boys’ best friend and such ... do they not also realize also in canon ... the boys themselves don’t really seem to consider him a part of sunset curve or a best friend? they introduce themselves to julie as sunset curve and don’t say “sunset curve minus one”, they ask julie to join sunset curve and they never once say anything like “we need a new fourth member”. bobby is an afterthought to them, that gets briefly brought up and then forgotten about until ep4 where we find out he BETRAYED THEM!!! (also like w that brief mention, that right there is a prime example bobby wasn’t as close w the boys as everyone wants. luke is going on about how the three of them have each other and that’s all they need. you think if bobby was as close then he would’ve mentioned him them especially considering they had just done so minutes before???). like - i just ... stop getting mad at people for not wanting to follow your fanon and for literally following the ideals the show itself tells them. i’m sorry it sucks that not everyone loves the same character you do but you only love him so much because of the ideas and headcanons and stuff that YOU’VE made. you can’t expect everyone to just follow that, it isn’t fair. and if bobby antis/people who don’t like him bother you that much ... block and move on? i don’t know. again i’m so sorry for this rant in your inbox but i needed to let this out and i’m far too nervous to post this publicly. also please note none of the “yous” in this ask are directed to you - they’re all general “yous”. anyways i hope you have a lovely day/evening/etc and again i’m so very sorry for this!

aw please don’t apologise! you have a right to your opinion just like everyone else in this fandom, and you shouldn’t be attacked or argued with just because of those opinions (as long as they’re not harming anyone/are not racist/sexist/etc)

i wasn’t attacking anyone per se- i just wanted to remind people that you have a right to enjoy fandom the way you want to enjoy it. you have a right to enjoy the show and its characters the way you want to enjoy them

i mean i’m friends and mutuals with a lot of people who love their version of bobby and idm!!! good for them!!! i’ve even enjoyed a few fics and their portrayal of bobby. i just don’t appreciate it when people get aggressive saying you have to include him in your fics and hcs etc

like i’ve said it plenty of times, i have no real opinions on bobby, (genuinely don’t care about him as a character) we barely know anything about him in canon so imma leave him out of my fics most of the time! and that’s my choice! doesn’t mean i’m shoving anti-bobby propaganda everywhere or purposefully being malicious just by doing that

i’m literally just. vibing. in my own fics and on my own blog, surprisingly enough

(also ya i get u. the thing that always hits me is how much of an afterthought he is to the boys..like they get angry when they find out trevor stole their songs but then that’s it...::they barely think about him so i HC that he was just a later addition to the band and not a very close one at that. but again that’s a headcanon because we know nothing about it. at all.)

12. Who initiates kisses?

luke for sure, and i think reggie would probably come in a close second. alex and (especially) bobby aren't the best at just going for it, too caught up in overthinking or worrying if the other person wants to or not. luke gets very exasperated by this and kisses them a lot to hammer in the lesson that he is pretty much never gonna turn down a kiss lmao

13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

we all know luke is mr "physical touch is my love language", but he doesn't reach for hands so much as he just rests his elbow on people or slings an arm around them. alex, however, loves holding hands, and will hold hands with any of them at the slightest provocation. reggie is very happy about this, swinging their hands around and playing with his fingers. bobby is also very happy about this but he'll never say it, he'll just hide a smile and rub his thumb over alex's until he has to let go.

14. Who kisses the hardest?

hmm... i know luke is the obvious answer, but i feel like it's alex? not all the time obviously, he's very capable of soft, tender kisses, but when the situation calls for it, he can be very forceful. i think luke maybe kisses the most passionately the most consistently, if that makes sense, and then with alex it depends on the day.

15. Who wakes up first?

reggieeee morning person outlier of the group! he's only forgiven because he makes coffee for them every morning <3

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

luke the most egregiously, but alex is a surprise contender for "least likely to get out of bed". bobby is fine with existing in the morning once he has coffee, it's just getting out of his sleepy boyfriends' octopus cuddles that's the hardest part lol

17. Who says I love you first?

reggie i think? i feel like luke would say he loves them as a band a lot, but not leave the music out of it, whether it's on purpose or not. (probably on accident lbr. this boy has a one track mind.) but reggie would be the first one to say it just to them as boyfriends, although he probably didn't mean to say it when he did lmao

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

aww this is so cute. i think this could be all of them? like it becomes an inside joke of sorts over time. but it started when bobby began packing their lunch bc of [insert reason here idk they lived in his garage] and sometimes the notes would just be reminders to do things and sometimes they would be song lyric ideas and sometimes they would be just nice little messages, but he would always sign them with a little heart. or maybe just "bobby xo". he's an old-fashioned guy like that.

but then the boys started replying, writing notes back responding to whatever he had written, that he saw when he cleaned out their lunchboxes (or whatever the justification for this is. tupperware? why do they need lunch.) and it just became a thing. they don't really talk about it, but bobby recognizes when one of his lunch note lyric ideas ends up in a song at practice, and so do the rest of them. but they don't need to talk about it. the lunch notes can stay the way they are: on paper, an inside joke, just another way bobby shows them he loves them.

I am gonna regret this enormously but whatever. Just another bad life choice to live with. SO! as an official Bobby expert, how would you define him as a character if, just possibly, someone wanted to write him into fanfic? If say, maybe slightly just a little bit, someone was thinking about writing Sunset Curve OT4 goodness but wasn't completely sure how he fits into the dynamic? (just looking for tips so a 17 page gdoc is not necessary but if you feel inspired i will read it too)

Hi!!! So, I have written a couple sunset curve ot4 if you’d like to have examples to consider, but that’s just a shameless bit of self plugging so feel free to ignore. Personally, I tend to characterise him as the balschy protective friend, because the phantom trio don’t really have one and all gay friendship groups do, but also as the one that’s most insecure about his place in all of it, because of how close we see thing 1, 2&3 being regularly. Once we get past that he’s sarcastic as fuck in my books, bc I just get those vibes, and he’s a chem nerd.
