Rainy Day
Hello hello! First time I've put something out in a while, but here you go! Some Lizard Man and Gyoza Girl friendship :) Fandom is Dorohedoro and characters listed are Kaiman, Nikaido and Vaux (mentioned)
No real warnings, platonic friendship, fic under the cut
--
Kaiman’s dreams, as he understood them, were frightening. But in a way he could also accept that they were progress, maybe even prophetic at times. That’s what dreams were sometimes, right? They were the culmination of a brain trying its very hardest to make all the pieces to fit together, and his brain? Not many pieces to begin with.
The rain poured for three days now- Nikaido must’ve been feeling horrible. He’d visit when he’d stop feeling like death himself.
Even when the man would wake up, sit and rub his scaly head, the dreams lingered behind the backdrop of his eyelids whenever he closed them, swirls of magenta and lime green churning beneath like an underlayer of cold, deep water. A chaotic mix of sentences and words almost familiar to him would ring in his ears like little bells, chimes leading the lamb back to the shepherd. Who was his guide?
No one, it seems. If the hole were a dark maze (which is almost absolutely was in every sense), then he and Nikaido were blind, grasping for any tactile sign that would guide their way. But for now, they feel no such thing.
His dreams still swirled in between his ears like a dark current, too swift to reach down and strike the gold beneath. But still, he could see it, twinkling at him in mockery at something so close but impossible to even touch.
Kaiman sighed, rubbed his scaly head with his calloused hands, and started dressing himself. The wind picked up with the rain, now, it was starting to rattle the thin glass of his window. As he finished putting a shirt on (Nikaido’s shirt, which he now permanently stretched out), he saw that the streets were beginning to flood. With the streams the water rushing down the street, trash floated and spun while threads of black soot densely settled on the bottom, its own riverbank.
The lizard man decided that it would be nice to walk in the rain. Even though he hated it for causing his friend a pain he could not understand, he still liked how it smelled and how it felt on his skin. Magic did not affect him, it did nothing but cool him off. The plastic leather of his ribcage jacket always sounded so nice in the rhythm of the droplets hitting him.
The rain always led to a nicer walk through the hole, if such a thing could happen. The usual vagrants that he and Nikaido constantly had to slice through would scurry away and hide, seeking shelter in dark corners and the shade big gray buildings could provide. A couple days ago, Kaiman spotted some when he was working at the emergency ward. They were always the ones that ended up in the ward anyways, but Kaiman didn’t work for a wider cause. He worked for answers, a potential means to his end. He was getting through to the deep gold under the swift current, but it feels like he’s still just searching for flecks of his brain through the dusty concrete of where his body was found.
And then suddenly, as if his feet were not his own and his body was attached to a string, he was led to the alleyway. He looked at it, and felt himself reminisce. Hope and disgust and dread and sadness were imbued in the concrete now, and sometimes Kaiman could see some sort of- spirit. All the manifestations turning into the rainy soot and evil that this hall had for his life.
He moved onto the Hungry Bug. There was a part of Kaiman that was hoping it wasn’t closed, that Nikaido could be feeling okay and not sick and cheery like she usually was. He always hated where he was when it came to situations like that, he would knock on her door and not know what to say.
Guess it was another one of those days, because the Bug was closed and the shutters locked tight over the building, almost looking like it was curling in on itself through a fitful slumber. Everything was dark, for Kaiman’s beacon remained unlit. He tried to keep his disappointment at a manageable level, but then his stomach reminded him of the most worldly suffering- hunger. And how he associated his best friend with the smell of hot frying oil and the sound of quiet, weird music streaming through her restaurant's walls like a perfume.
Her presence always made things weird and funky, but Kaiman loved Nikaido for that.
Eventually, sulking his way through the rain, the lizard man got to the back entrance of the Hungry Bug that led to Nikaido’s apartment above. It was a common dance; walk up the stairs, knock at her door and call her name, and find a box full of ohba gyoza with a note on top.
And guess what happened this time? Exactly that.
He sighed at the box when he picked it up, a twist of sadness curling up his spine when he realized how much Nikaido cared for him, and at the same time, what she expected of him at this point.
[Kaiman,
Some ohba gyoza for your lunch.]
[Nikaido]
He thanked her through the door, went back down the stairs, and ventured back out into the pouring rain of the hole.
Kaiman arrived at work early, and started his shift by insulting Vaux and laughing when he got pissed.

dr light (smiles normally
smiles back at you equally normally. holly you know like half of my light thoughts already and the other half is straight up stolen from you but i appreciate the opportunity to formally put them on here
fav thing: HER LORE IS SO SO WILD sophia my love what is going on with you. Like. She accidentally killed several military personnel while working in an infectious disease lab and that was BEFORE her recruitment. Shes destined to be the the once and future O5-2, sole survivor of any timeline. She is her universes equivalent of jesus of nazareth. She is full of bees. Her ex-fiancee is Nobody but she forgot abt her bc she fell into the river lethe. What. What.
least fav thing: None of these concepts are ever properly elaborated on on the wiki, her resurrection incarnation which is probably still my fav version of her is more just this fairly ordinary woman somewhat critical of the foundations methods trying to make it within a system where everyone is expecting her to fail and its... still interesting but we have to get weirder with it. Have her be full of bees all the while also.
favorite line: I had this realization about myself, too. I think I want to be an Overseer.
brOTP: her and Vaux i love how unabashedly comfortable she is around him. Light is so stressed in all her tales always and whenever he appears hes such a calming presence, i think she would literally start melting at her desk without him to check in on her every once in a while
OTP: Ohh i have so many lightlament thoughts i love how much they come off as two people who care about each other so much but are both (especially light) too functionally-minded to properly be together. I don't like. ship them ship them my ideal lightlament endgame is them never properly getting to have that because theres never time for it but its such an implicitly sad romantic dynamic in how unremarkable it is.
nOTP: /
random headcanon: alright this is so out there and not fully formed at all but I think shes quite literally an incarnation of Sophia as in Sophia the lower deity from gnosticism, either in a literal or metaphorical sense, and is ultimately doomed to fall to her own hubris in much the same way. Alpha-9 is not going to go well and light will absolutely take the fall for it.
fav pic: adore that one really cryptic picture i her personnel file. my fav fanart is this one women who have absolutely nothing wrong with them whatsoever
unpopular opinion: /
song: /

6/ Percy Le Vaux: Peter Lumberg's alleged murderer
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/6-percy-le-vaux-peter-lumbergs-alleged-murderer/
6/ Percy Le Vaux: Peter Lumberg's alleged murderer
Tumblr media
Percy Le Vaux was the only real person of interest in the death of Peter Lumberg but he proved an impossible suspect.
The story of a Cairns murder, the attempted framing of an innocent First Nations man, the sexual assault on a young constable by one of Queensland’s most senior cops and a suicide. The Queensland Police hushed up this story. It stayed hidden for over a century before this writer found the documentation that shows these crimes were the tip of a torrid, tropical iceberg. The story of taboo sex, blackmail, a serial killer and the police and government corruption that enabled the cover-up.
Hubert Durham, gay policeman and the great police cover-up:
The gay scandal QLD Police hushed up for over a century.
1/ The murder
2/ Sandy Gallop
3/ The Essence of the Dear Departed
4/ Percy Le Vaux – the victim’s ‘most intimate friend’.
5/ An arrest
It seemed to many people that Sub-Inspector Bowen was a little hasty in his arrest of Percy Le Vaux for the murder of Peter Lumberg.
Sub-Inspector Bowen did not like Percy Le Vaux. He made no secret of that. One of his teenage sons worked as a clerk for Le Vaux for a short time and complained bitterly of his time there.
But that is not what prompted Bowen to order Le Vaux’s arrest.
Bowen was getting on in years. He had a large family to support. Sub-Inspector Bowen joined the police as a constable and worked his way through the ranks step by step.
His immediate superior, on the other hand, benefited from a head start. As an Englishman of a certain class, Inspector Durham joined as a Sub-Inspector.
Durham was paid much more than Bowen and would receive much more when he retired. Murder trials did not come along very often, especially against high-profile defendants like Percy Le Vaux. This might be Bowen’s last chance to impress the Commissioner and set himself up for a comfortable retirement.
But Durham was due back from an inspection tour of the Torres Strait soon. A celebrated prosecutor, he would no doubt take over the case and take all the glory for any subsequent conviction.
Bowen needed to convict Percy Le Vaux and he needed to convict him soon.
He had the evidence.
Percy Le Vaux was the only person with mogive to kill Peter Lumberg. The lawyer was broke, but the old man’s will made him his executor and his wife Blanche the beneficiary.
Witnesses testified to frequent arguments between Percy and Peter of late, the last one the night before Peter moved away from Le Vaux’s and allegedly after Percy was heard making threats to the old man.
Add to that, Percy’s blood-covered tomahawk found at the murder scene, and Percy’s suit having recently had blood on it.
But there was one great big giant piece of evidence Sub-Inspector Bowen could not overcome.
Dr O’Brien insisted the murder happened before 1 pm Monday afternoon, and Percy had numerous alibis for that morning.
A more experienced prosecutor might have argued O’Brien’s evidence. Even a police magistrate might be expected to note the inconsistencies with other violent deaths in the area.
Percy’s lawyer, previously his deadly enemy AJP MacDonnell, might have said something, but as MacDonnell would make clear down the track, he’d been hired to clear Le Vaux, and that was the job he would do.
And young Dr O’Brien previously made it clear he would brook no disagreement.
One strong-headed person can wield immense influence in a small community.
And so, the trial of Percy Le Vaux for the murder of Peter Lumberg meandered through the Cairns Swamp until it finally bogged down in the muck, and locals started to feel some sympathy for the alleged murderer.
Of course, Percy’s drinking buddy, Alfred Chisholm, at the Cairns Argus, supplied copy to papers all around Australia. Alfred proclaimed Percy’s innocence loudly from one end of the country to the other.

Dr. Love thinks a relationship might work out between Vaux and Reeve, but the chance is very small. A successful relationship is possible, but you both have to work on it. Do not sit back and think that it will all work out fine, because it might not be working out the way you wanted it to. Spend as much time with each other as possible. Again, the chance of this relationship working out is very small, so even when you do work hard on it, it still might not work out.

do u think dr light would enjoy skyrim?
You know, uh, my initial thought is that she doesn't play video games. But I think this is part of a deeper problem with my authorial process. Like, you know in a computer game like the Sims, when your sim sits down to play its own computer game, and you squint at the computer game and there's some dumb nonsense going on there - like that's where my simulating power runs out. Unless their media consumption is a big part of their character (e.g. if I have a musician character, they of course listen to music and have opinions), all my characters feel like they ought to listen to Iron & Wine and watch nature documentaries and not have any strong opinions about fiction. Like, huh! That doesn't sound right, statistically speaking! Which is to say, I guess I'll stretch myself and revisit my answer. She doesn't regularly play video games, and whatever she does play usually aren't, like, RPG or shooter type games. She might enjoy Skyrim. I think she has picky and arbitrary taste in fiction. (There are like exactly three television shows that she's watched every single episode of and practically no other TV.) That said, every now and then, a colleague will try and convince her to get into something, and mostly she'll suck at it and won't be interested, but roughly every 2-3 years she will get really into something, lose like 2 straight weeks of productivity, and then uninstall it and refuse to touch that game ever again. I don't know what all of these games were - probably some of them weren't ones you'd expect - maybe Skyrim was among them! She has definitely told Vaux with a straight face that if Factorio, Farming Simulator, any Bejeweled clone, or Starcraft ever appear on her computer again, he will need to shoot the computer, with a gun, for the good of the planet.
