Amalgamate Chapter 20 Preview

OMGGG I was so happy to see so many people follow the new Official Amalgamate blog after I finally got it off the ground a few days ago! To anyone who happened to reblog that first post, thank you so much! It's hard for me to get the word out between chapters, so that was super helpful! :D

Anyway, I'm glad I can finally share Amalgamate content in a public space other than AO3! And sharing content means giving you all a status update on the next chapter.

As of right now, chapter 20's 1st draft is about 95% finished, and then I'm gonna start doing some hardcore editing. I tend to add additional scenes during editing, though, so maybe 95% is a generous estimate, but still -- ! ;;;;;

If you'd like to see a preview of chapter 20, I'll put it after the cut so anyone who doesn't want to see any chapter 20 content before it's released won't have anything spoiled. That being said, I consider this a spoiler-free preview :)

Apologies for that preview reading a liiiiittle rough, but this is still a 1st draft, and I haven't had a chance to give these scenes a whole lot of polish.

I also apologize for how ominous that preview reads when it's sitting in a void without context. Those of you who've never dealt with me on Discord or social media before are about to find out that I'm kiiiiiiinda a massive troll :3

Amalgamate Redraw!

Okay okay okay. There's this fanfic I LOVE called Amalgamate on Ao3 by DoctorHaifish. Like a ago I made fanart and I decided to redraw it . (Aka I saw it in an edit and I got really sick looking at it 0.o)

I can NOT recommend this fic enough. The writeing, the plot, The characters!! Omg Ithe way it expands on the characters and every little moment. Gosh the mystery, THE PLANS. Usally I know if a plan a character makes is gonna fail or not (if they explain the plan it will most likely fail) but this fic keeps you in a twilight zone where it feels like you know nothing and also everything. It does get EXTREMELY dark and characters are forced to swoop to unimaginable lows, so I can't recommend it to everyone, but there's always a sense of hope.

Onto the actual drawing. I leaned towards a more pyhcopop style and tried something along the lines of Mika Pikazo. My favorite one has to be Kiato, the drastic lighting along with the pose was fun to draw. I can't help but this Kokichi looks out of place compared to him seeing how wide his eyes are,

These colors were fun too, in the original I was obsessed with keeping a warm color pallete for some reason. This bright one really fits the vibe of Dangonropa better. These colors aren't my style either. Instead of analogous complementary for contrast I used analogous (dun dun dun!! 0A0) and used saturation for contrast.

Amalgamate Ch. 20 Progress Report

Hey, y'all! Sorry this chapter's been taking ten-billion years and a thousand lifetimes to complete. Honestly, the number of roadblocks that came between me and my progress on Amalgamate was absurd to the point of being almost comical (almost).

But I am very, very close to being done. I've been doing the final readings of ch. 20 the past week, but I got slowed down by the fact that there were a few scenes I wasn't happy with, so I more or less rewrote them. I'm gonna start up another reading today, and my goal is to see how far I can get without stopping to do any major editing. I'll reread the chapter over and over until it's polished enough that I can read the entire thing in a single day, and that'll be the signal to me that it's time to transfer the draft to AO3 and get the A/Ns ready.

That day should (hopefully) be any day now. I can't give a specific date yet, but soon. Definitely very soon. I'm getting sooooo close to a draft I'm happy with.

But in the meantime, would y'all like another short (and still kinda unpolished) preview of the chapter? Like a road trip snack to get us through the drive to our destination? I'll put it under the cut for those who prefer not to see previews :)

Anyway, I'll continue to keep you all updated as I finish up this chapter, and I'll definitely let you all know as soon as I think I'm about to post it.

Been meaning to share this, dunno what took me so long.

To celebrate the release of chapter 16, the title chapter of my Danganronpa V3 fanfic, Amalgamate (yah, I’m DoctorHaifisch lmao), I drew this illustration of Kaito and Kokichi finally achieving their maximum trauma bonding potential. Ever gone through so much hell with somebody, the two of you literally amalgamated? It’s fun for the whole family!

Took me forever to create this illustration cuz digital coloring isn’t really my forte, but I think it turned out pretty cool (I hope).

Oh, um, link to read Amalgamate if you want, ehe. Yah, it’s long. And still has a few more chapters. I have no self control.
