! in light of that oc post you rb'd. consider this an opportunity to talk about ur ocs. basics, dnd alignment, ur fav things you've come up for them, what makes you/their LI deranged abt them, top moment living rent free in ur head for them, (free space here) hehehe
You are too kind. 💙
Truly, when it comes to player characters I have too many. Rather than one "canon" world state I have an ever-growing pile of them, which I sit atop like a dragon on its treasure hoard.
So today I think I'll take this as an excuse opportunity to talk about Noble Hearts, even though I don't currently have any fic written for any of them. Generally for each world state I pick a theme, and each character is a variation on it, so the theme of this one is nobility.
Brenna Aeducan
How it started:
Tumblr media
How it's going:
Tumblr media
Brenna Aeducan starts out in full Noble Asshole mode, does not speak to commoners, etc. Over the course of her journey, she falls in love with Alistair, puts him on the throne, and sacrifices herself to kill the archdemon.
Her arc is about learning the true meaning of nobility. It's a journey from Lawful Evil to Lawful Good.
Favorite Brenna moments:
She puts Bhelan on the throne.
Bhelan, you outplayed me. You won. I will not allow House Aeducan to fall simply to spite you. I will see you on the throne. But never forget who put you there.
Connor dies. Brenna knows nothing about magic. She takes the Knight-Commander at his word when he says the Circle is lost. She accidentally reveals Morrigan as an apostate and Wynne attacks them, forcing Brenna to kill her and leaving her no further reason to consider sparing the mages. So when they subsequently go to Redcliffe, there is no third option, and she's not about to do a blood magic ritual, so the child has to die. (This ends up being a very rough patch in her relationship with Alistair.)
Favorite romance moment: When she realizes that Alistair's destiny is to rule his people, and she will never be his queen... and puts him on the throne anyway. And Alistair's goodbye in Denerim, where he knows damn well what she's about to do: "I won't forget you. I'll make sure they don't forget you."
The Warden for Awakening is also a dwarf, Devari Kader, who was born casteless before leaving and becoming a Grey Warden. She finds it absolutely bonkers to be not only a noble but a noble ruling humans. Also baffled by the fact that everyone keeps calling her "Orlesian."
Emilia Hawke
The one I call Terrible Hawke (affectionate and derogatory).
How it started:
Tumblr media
How it's going:
Tumblr media
Emilia Hawke starts out protective of her little sister, though maybe with a bit of resentment brewing under the surface. She loses Bethany in the Deep Roads. Over the course of her arc she slides toward more and more extreme pro-templar behavior until Leandra's murder just sends her completely off the rails. By Act III she is a full-on anti-mage fanatic who believes that magic is a curse and it was a blessing from the Maker that he called Bethany back to his side before she could fall to corruption.
Emilia was an exercise in "Let's make a Hawke who sides with the templars at the end and fully believes they're doing the right thing."
If you ask her, she's Lawful Good. (I'd call her Lawful Evil, lol.)
Favorite Emilia moments:
Tumblr media
Bethany's death truly is the beginning of her long downward spiral, because she really did love her sister. With Bethany gone, over time her memory in Emilia's mind is twisted into an idealized portrait of the "Good Mage." One who was meek and righteous (neither of which accurately describe who Bethany really was), never gave into temptation, and most importantly, died young and pure. That distorted image of Bethany helps her rationalize things later that Bethany would never have approved of, without ever admitting to herself how deeply she has dishonored her sister's memory.
Romance: She romances Sebastian and ends up taking those Chantry vows with him. They're a chaste and devout religious power couple who enable some of each other's worst traits and mutually cockblock each other so hard (Emilia constantly encourages him to keep his Chantry vows despite clearly wanting to bang him) I have to say that both of them on some level get off on denying each other and themselves. They deserve each other. 💙
Incidentally in addition to taking Chantry vows, Emilia has the Templar specialization. Which means that for a brief time, Kirkwall has a Viscount who is an actual Chantry Sister and "unofficial" templar. Love that for them.
Theodore Trevelyan
How it started:
Tumblr media
How it's going:
Tumblr media
Theo is "the spare" of his family, and he knows it. So when this "Herald of Andraste" thing drops in his lap, he seizes it with both hands. Why yes, I am the Chosen One! Thank you for asking!
And he wants so badly to believe it.
Alignment: Lawful Stupid. Would in theory like to be Good but is completely unpracticed at any kind of complex moral reasoning.
Favorite Theo moments:
His confidence takes its first big hit at Halamshiral, where he makes a fantastic cock-up of it and ends up with Gaspard as Emperor not by choice but because he can't make a decision and just stands there gawping while his people are waiting for orders, and Celene gets stabbinated in front of him. And then everyone praises him and acted like he made this happen on purpose. He does not walk away feeling good about this.
And then the Fade is like "Yeah you weren't saved by Andraste lol."
Incidentally, Emilia's anti-mage fanaticism unnerves even bland milquetoast pro-templar Theo to the point that it contributes to him leaving her in the Fade, even though he feels really guilty about it because of Varric.
Also a big fan of the scene where he gets yelled at by Solas, who is deeply unimpressed with him.
Romance: He falls hard for Cassandra, which really makes things awkward when he starts to doubt his Chosen-ness because deep down he knows there's nothing else remarkable about him and he's not handsome or charming enough to get by on that alone, and what if she only ever liked him because she thought he was chosen by the Maker?
Probably his greatest moment of character growth is when he learns that Cassandra is a candidate for Divine, and realizes that if he supports her, he's probably going to lose her. And he decides to support her anyway because he loves her and can't stand in the way of her calling if it's the Maker's will.
Thanks for letting me introduce you to my awful children!

For the DAI OC prompts, 10 for Will? (Challenge mode: someone other than Cullen 😜)
from this list
On AO3 here
Okay, my friend, challenge accepted! (though, it's been ages since I last wrote Leliana, so please forgive the rustiness!)
~~
Josie –
I have had my agents do some digging into the Inquisitor’s background and I thought the following information might be of use to you.
Bann Markus Trevelyan and his wife, Lady Emilia, had six children.  The Inquisitor is the youngest.  When he was a child of eight, William was sent to train with the Templars.
(Imagine my surprise when I discovered this was at the same time and place Cullen received his training!  He really ought to have told us, don’t you think?  We might have to speak with Cassandra about that!)
It is, apparently, tradition within the family for the younger children to serve within the Chantry in some fashion.  Of the six, the younger four were expected to do so; Annet as a revered mother and Regina and Ronan, twins just older than William, both as Templars.  The Inquisitor was to have become a Templar as well, but some unspecified incident right before he was to take his vows changed his mind and, despite his father’s insistence that he remain in the Order, William left.
(Neither he nor Cullen have been forthcoming in response to my requests as to why.)
After leaving the Order, William returned to Ostwick.  I have been told the reunion between father and son did not go well.  Whether related to this or not, within two years of his return to Ostwick, both Bann Markus and Lady Emilia died.  William’s older brother, Malcolm, became Bann and has ruled since.  (The last sibling to mention, Lady Evelyn, is married into a noble family in nearby Markham and is a strong supporter of her brother and his efforts.)
Shortly thereafter, William became the captain of Bann Malcolm’s personal guards and served from then until the Conclave when he was sent here with three other siblings – Annet, Regina and Ronin – and a contingent of Trevelyan troops.  As we know, the Inquisitor is the only one of the delegation who survived.
From what I understand, William and the older brother and sister still living get on well enough, but that is the extent of what my agents have been able to discover.
I hope this information helps you when reaching out to Bann Trevelyan.  If you need anything else, do not hesitate to ask.  (But YOU must provide the wine next time!)

wedding plans. (ladies of thedas, #3)
rating: g
word count: 1k
prompt: “the Inquisition”
pairing: josephine/f!trevelyan
summary: josie worries about the political implications of their wedding. emilia wants to go back to sleep.
for ladies of thedas appreciation week 2018: (x)
Three parcels of cloth, three different colors. Cream, coral, peach. Josephine has never been so perplexed.
Cream would go well with everything, being subtle and not too boring, while coral would stand out, easily. She’s attended enough weddings to know that napkins were just as important to the centerpiece as the floral arrangement itself. But Maker, the flowers! What would go with peach? It’s very feminine, like her, and sweet, like her future wife. Carnations perhaps? No, no. Gawdy. Marigolds? Oh, but they’d have to be in season or else—
“My love?”
Josephine jumps. Beside her, in bed, lay Emilia, evidently not as asleep as she thought.
She looks down and finds strands of white blocking the woman’s sharp stare, hair mussed and cheeks flushed from night-time sweat. From the groan she lets out, Josephine knows she’s annoyed to find not only her arms empty, but a candle lit and her fiancée hunched over fabric, scratching down notes.
Her voice, rough from sleep, makes Josephine want to laugh, if she wasn’t busy biting her lip, embarrassed.
“I can’t believe you’re still awake.”
“I didn’t mean to disturb you,” Josephine says. She reaches out and hazards a caress along her cheek. Emilia allows it, her hair pushed back from her face.
“You didn’t.”
Emilia perches up onto her elbow. She rubs at her eyes, groaning again, then yawning.
“But you are disturbing me by spending night and day agonizing about a wedding that is months away,” she says. “What’s wrong?”
Josephine bites down harder on her lip, before sighing and placing her notepad down. The candle alight on the nightstand flickers with the slight movement.
“I want everything to be perfect. It’s not every day my family consents to my desires.”
Emilia gives her a look. “’Consents?’ Josie, I know this is has nothing to do with them. I’d marry you right this second, your parents’ good wishes be damned, and also I know you feel the same. What’s really going on?”
A moment passes and Josephine sinks into the bed, chin tucked in. She feels like a child, pouting the way she does, but it can’t be helped. She’s so utterly, stupidly happy, the idea of something going wrong, even something as insignificant as napkins, drives her insane. She wants all of this to be easy, like everything else with Emilia.
She begins to speak.
“My family will be in attendance. Not only my family, but everyone I’ve ever known. People I grew up with. People I haven’t seen in years. People who will, ultimately, judge not only us, but what is left of the Inquisition. This wedding is about influence, not love.”
She takes in a breath and turns her head. Emilia is beautiful in the low light, brows knitted with worry, dark eyes glittering. Josephine wants to kiss her. Instead, she continues by saying, “When you asked me to marry you, there wasn’t a single doubt in my mind. You are the one for me, always, but there are days— days where I wish we’d kept our wedding a secret. Eloped, even if it broke my mother’s heart. The world is watching, Emi, for something as simple as a wedding. Our wedding. I’m scared you’re already sick of it .”
Tightness built in her throat as she spoke, but Josephine doesn’t need to ponder Emilia’s reaction. Immediately, a dimpled smile makes its way across her face. Then, always tender and never modest, Emilia does what Josephine hopes and wraps her free arm around Josie’s waist, tugs her close with as little as a grunt, then snuggles her face into Josephine’s neck, her cold nose doing nothing to stop her
Josephine can’t help giggling, struggling and whining, only to be silenced with a deep kiss.
Eventually, Emilia pulls away, licking her lips. A heady desire colors her voice as she hums, hungry-sounding. Josephine blushes, but refrains from pinching her soon-to-be-wife.
“What did Varric say? Biggest wedding of the century? Even more memorable than the Fifth Blight?”
Now, she pinches her. “That’s not funny.”
“Yes it is.” Emilia laughs. “I’d never thought the love of my life would be the most powerful woman in Thedas, but I’d always dream I’d be the most woman in Thedas. Either way, I expected nothing short of spectacular when I asked you to marry me. We are who we are; I don’t care if the world is watching.”
For such a blatant lie, Josephine is willing to believe her. Little about their union is conventional; Josephine has spent her entire life anticipating marriage, only to choose her own bride and it’s a firebrand revolutionist of all things. She is content, however. Emilia wants to save the world and Josephine wants to heal it. Together, they’d be unstoppable.
Perhaps there was truth to what she was saying. They were, of course, nothing short of spectacular to begin with.
Josephine cups Emilia’s face, fingers caressing her jaw. She stares at her for a moment, before drawing in for another kiss, a careful peck of lips.
“You really don’t mind?” she says. “There’s already talk. Our families will never let us live it down if something goes wrong. Maker, Divine Victoria wants to marry us personally. ”
“Of course I am.”
Emilia presses her forehead to Josphine’s .Then, she takes her hand and brings it to her chest, laying it flat against her heart. It beats gently, unworried.
Her words drop into a whisper, a tone reserved for Josephine.
“I wouldn’t miss marrying you for the world.”

Can you please do who was nervous/shy and who kisses the other awake for both of your couples??☺️
Thank you for the asks! 💝
Who was nervous and shy on the first date
Neria and Solas
During their "first official date" Neria definitely was the nervous one. It was roughly some time after their kiss on the balcony, so she was yet not quite sure of herself. She never believed she'd find a true love, but everything about this felt like it's right, like he's the one. So she was afraid of disappointing him. In return Solas seemed confident as always, hiding a turmoil of emotions bubbling underneath well. He still felt unsure this was a good idea, scared that after finding out the truth she'll push him away, cursing his name, or worse - follow him, tainting her bright gentle spirit in the process. But overall he was exited to spend more time with her, showing his affection more openly now.
Emilia and Alistair
Definetly Alistair. He barely worked up the courage to ask her out in the first place, she's quite an intimidating woman after all. During the date itself he constantly stumbled over his words and blushed. Emilia found it absolutely endearing, especially when his face turned beet-red after a chaste kiss on the cheek.
Who kisses the other awake in the morning
Neria and Solas
It depends on who wakes up first. Usually they spend their time in the Fade together, so they also wake up approximately at the same time. They turned it into a little race. When Neria wakes up first she counts freckles on his face with kisses, until he wakes up, to properly kiss him on the lips. When it's Solas he carefully gives her a few gentle kisses on the lips, before kissing the sleep off of her eyes.
Emilia and Alistair
Emilia. She's the early bird, almost every morning she wakes up first, tenderly watching him while he sleeps for some time, kissing him on the forehead and down along his face to wake him up. On the rare occasions Alistair wakes up first or doesn't sleep at all, he leaves loud smooches all over her face and jaw to hear her laugh first thing in the morning.

I think for the first time I'm faced with an Actually Difficult decision when it comes to who to leave in the Fade. Between Alessandra and Loghain it was a no-brainer; that was always the ending I had planned for Loghain. Between Sabine and Alistair it was Sabine because Sabine romanced Merrill if anyone can either find Hawke in the Fade or be compellingly obsessed with finding her in there it's Merrill. Between Cillian and Stroud it was always going to be Stroud because Cillian is truly too ride-or-die for Anders to leave him hanging that way. And between Emilia and Stroud it had to be Emilia because she's truly kind of a monster to the point that even milquetoast pro-Chantry Theodore Trevelyan was unsettled by her.
Between Mallory Hawke and romanced Alistair, it's actually kind of a tough call! On the one hand I've got Mal who did her absolute damnedest not to give a shit until the very end and then surprised everyone by defending the mages and for whom voluntary self-sacrifice would be a massive leap of character growth, and on the other hand I've got Alistair who is not King specifically because benevolent-but-still-kind-of-selfish Warden Jolene Cousland didn't feel like sharing him and for whom losing him would probably force some kind of character growth as well, though in her case it wouldn't be her choice.
Also worth factoring in is that Mal is in a polycule with Merrill and Isabela and while they'll be crushed, they'll have each other to get through it. Jo likewise will grieve Alistair hard but she'll survive it.
It's not even an easy choice from my Inquisitor's perspective because on the one hand Calla likes Varric. a lot. and isn't eager to feed his best friend to a demon. but on the other hand she's a dwarf and brutally pragmatic, and she gets that whatever shit the Grey Wardens have done, we probably still need them.
This game is like "Which one of your OCs do you want to hurt more?" and I'm here like "Is there any way I can hurt them both?" 🤔
