Round 3 Poll 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emon, Tal'Dorei: Emon is the capital of the Republic of Tal'Dorei, formerly the Tal'Dorei Empire. Vox Machina considered it their home and owned property here, Greyskull Keep. It is a bustling port city that was also the central target by the 810 attack of the Chroma Conclave. The Mighty Nein once visited, briefly.

Uthodurn, Wildemount: Uthodurn is a city-state in the Greying Wildlands. It is known for housing both dwarves and elves, and is famous for its metallurgy and craftsmanship. The Mighty Nein have visited, and so have half of Bells Hells, when they were separated during the Apogee Solstice of 843. Chetney Pock O'Pea lived in Uthodurn for many years.

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS (2018) | (42/42)
Poor ungodly soul... Now, no man shall ever trespass upon this place again. Should you be alive... If it's even possible to continue to exist in these sealed lands... One day, perhaps you will make atonement for what you've done.

thoughts + headcanons: on daemon and rhea * subject to changes according to different portrayals. note (to non rp blogs, specially): please i beg you, DO NOT reblog.
beginning.
so this is pretty basic, but rhea and daemon were married in 97AC, when daemon was sixteen, and i headcanon rhea to be fourteen going on fifteen.
the marriage was arranged by queen alysanne targaryen, and this was before lord yorbert became regent to the arryn. so, rhea actually stayed at the red keep for a while before, during, and slightly after the wedding.
of course, within the same year, lord yorbert was called to be regent for the vale as lady jeyne arryn was still so small, and rhea was asked to be the acting ruler for runestone. daemon followed along, as it was the original plan anyways, and i do headcanon daemon lived at the vale for quite a few years — at the very least, until queen alysanne passed in 100AC.
marriage life.
i do interpret the marriage to be absolutely horrible in the beginning, starting from the fact that daemon refused to consummate it at all, which rhea personally carried with shame (because it had meant she wasn't able to perform her duties fully, as is expected of her), but it just got worse because daemon clearly showed no interest in governing with her; so halfway through, she stopped scheming to get him to join.
she ruled alone for the most part (with the help of her small council), and she did lie to her father that daemon was a "decent husband" to her whenever she did visit him at the eyrie, just so it'd ease his mind.
him leaving the vale was one of the best decision he's ever made. ever since, it was a respectable knowledge among the vale to not outrightly mention rhea's absent husband. not because she is particularly ashamed by him, because he is simply not relevant to the current wellbeing of her townsfolk and the vale's politics.
estranged marriage.
yes, rhea is completely aware of daemon's womanising, (no, she doesn't know that rhaenyra would've been one of daemon's targets.) involvement to the goldcloaks, the war at stepstones etc. but uh.. no, she doesn't much care about it.
which brings me to the point, rhea really doesn't care about daemon — in the sense that, whatever he's doing is entirely his separate affair, and it doesn't reflect her; neither will whatever she does affect him.
it's come to a point even that she's gotten very used to the arrangement, seeing as they remained married for 18 years at least, (rhea was supposed to pass away in 115AC) and would feel a little bereft, if not embarrassed, if anyone aside from daemon himself tries to annul it. no, this marriage has became theirs in their odd little way; if anyone were to bear the painstaking responsibility of ending it, it will be daemon and her.
to add to that, in an odd way, rhea finds having been married is quite freeing actually; it gives zero chances for any of the lords to come unto her with proposal of political marriages seeing as, legally, she is taken.
despite the clear estrangement, this doesn't mean rhea will stand for any outright targaryen slander. since she is absurdly a dutiful woman, she will defend the targaryens (as it is her family by law) very sharply each time.
rhea does not sleep with anyone else for as long as she is married to daemon — she is very religious, and a stickler with abiding rules. (she did, however, sleep with someone when the engagement was announced as a last-ditch agency for control. she hated the sexual experience, as she felt no pleasure; only penetrating to make sure the blood spilled was of her doing. no one else's.)
alternate take.
in a reality where daemon and rhea miraculously have a decent marriage, she would still understand his sexual appetite enough to not mind him having affairs or taking up lovers on the side. (she would've valued his loyalty more.) her deal would've been that, had he any bastards and the mother of said bastards did not want to take care of them, she would ask him to send them to the vale — because she will foster them as a "stone".

Is there any Fan-made AU from a professional work you like you're particularly fond of?
Years ago during my Undertale AU Phase (which I somehow managed to survive while dodging the entirety of the raging fire that was/is? The Sansverse) I was really into this blog called askfriskandcompany. Started out as a regular ask blog but turned into a whole thing with story and everything, while still keeping the asks around. Too shy to ever send one myself but always kept checking in hopes there was anything. From what it looks like, it’s in indefinite hiatus but the blog owners still around, which is nice
…Also every "siblings that were separated by canon get to be with each other again“ AU. All of them 3:<

Okay real talk this pretty much confirms Blake is Hush and I’m here to fill in the gaps
If im right yall owe me a dollar each
The reason Hush finds Vega familiar is bc D’Deridahn is the Sovereign of Sadism who literally made Vega
Brachium is the brother bc as soon as he saw a Sovereign partially escape the River he remembered his one goal in Death was to keep the Sovereigns contained, and is looking to succeed (even tho he failed kinda)
The reason Hush is one of a kind and doesn’t have a set species is bc a Sovereign has never fused with a human so his “kind” has never been a thing
The reason Avior sounds like Hush is bc a Sovereign (E’Laetum or Min”Ara) is either 1) trying to talk to him, or 2) trying to talk through him. That’s what’s happening with Hush
The reason Hush can easily kill d(a)emons is bc he’s literally part-Sovereign, not to be confused with made by a Sovereign, and Sovereigns are much more powerful than d(a)emons.
I think that’s everything? Next Friday hopefully we’ll see how wrong or right I am :3

Let's Talk About Turning
Let's go in order of Listeners. If any of the recounted information is incorrect, please let me know.
Bright Eyes:
From retelling from old fans, Bright had literally no say (possibly idea of) the turning till after it was at least in progress.
Lovely:
They were in a life or death situation. They chose to continue living at the cost of losing the power they worked so hard to learn, along with the normalcy of everyday life.
They seem to be taking everything in stride, but I'm worried for them. They seems to be an optimist except for when it comes to their image to others. (That's a post for another day)
Darlin':
Has been given the option to be turned. They still have the option to. But there's 3 things pointing in the no direction. In chatacter wise at least.
Sam still intends to stay with them regardless of how they age. They finally feel their place in the pack. Why lose the original link that made them a part of that family? Last and finally, Sam won't be living an eternal life, regardless if Darlin' wanted to or not with him.
I'm personally a believer that Darlin' wants to keep a mortal life for Sam's sake. Giving him a natural life time line. I hate to think about it, but I think we all see how that's all ending. At least we know that if that's the route Erik has chosen, when shit really his the fan with the meridian, these two are safe. Right? Right.
Treasure:
Let me start off by saying we don't know much about them because their story is quite literally two videos deep so far. What we've seen so far is that Treasure appears to have a dependency or rather a need to do for others. Regardless if they might feel uncomfortable or just not enjoy the sway of their company. Old company we should say.
I think we've mostly come to the agreement that if Treasure hadn't wanted to go off with Porter, they wouldn't have. They were there for their at the time, friends. The night at the club very well could have been the last straw.
All this to say I believe Treasure will be getting turned. Treasure is at the beginning of a break out from their own shell and making choices that benefits themself. There is some level of care and joy between Porter and Treasure. If that grows, wouldn't they want to stay together? If the first person to truly make Treasure happy is gonna live forever, wouldn't they want to too?
There are other ideas of Treasure being a Stealth cause the bitch didn't seem to freak out over Porter being s blood sucking play boy. Erik seems to be leaving empowered reveals of his characters to listener characters to the listeners, for the most part.
There's also the chance Erik could kill off Porter's character. There's a rule of 3 for character stories, it seems. We lost Fred from a listener standpoint and gained Porter. We have 3 wolves. 3 vampires, and 3 d(a)emons that have consistant romantic undertones at the very least. Vega is dead, but he can be brought back. I don't think he's killing Porter off but it's not impossible?
We're at the calm before the storm boys. I swear in the next 4 months, shits gonna get real and all he'll will break loose. Or Aria? Through the meridian. I'm rambling.
But yeah. Totally think that Treasure will get that choice and will be turned.
Again, if my information is wrong, let a bitch know. We gonna suffer through this together.

i haven't been in the tag so someone may have said this already but for those of you who have been watching the legend of vox machina but have never seen campaign one of critical role: once you've watched season two episode one, i SO highly recommend watching the original attack on emon. it only takes about half an hour and it's one of the most bonkers reveals/adventure hooks/Events to ever happen in an actual play. SEEING the dragons swoop in in animation is cool and all but my god the slow dawning horror as everything goes south...the counting the colors of what they've seen....19 misses....a MOMENT.
start at 3:28:50, the link should take you right there. important context you'll need immediately is that vex's favored enemy is dragons and she has the observant feat, allowing her to read lips and therefore catch things everyone else misses.

VERY LONG POST EXPLORING C3 AND WHY SO MANY PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT/MY PERSONAL GRIPES WITH IT.
I ended up exploring a bit of that Reddit community of critical role fans (not the main one) where they basically gather together and commiserate how much they hate C3. It's frustrating to read because at some point you can tell they make no effort to engage positively with the campaign and have a penchant for hating anything about it.
But, from the perspective of someone with very little emotional connection to the past campaigns, I kinda get why C3 feels so different and, in my opinion, it's all about personal stakes for the characters.
As writers, we constantly hear that we must give the characters something personal to care about so that the reader may care about the plot - yeah city-destroying laser beam is a big stake, but if main character's loved one will be used as a sacrifice to the aliens to activate the laser beam unless they do something, the tension doubles.
And with a shallow look over the arcs of the past campaigns, especially the fans' favourites, a pattern I find is of those with heavy personal stakes:
People often point the Briarwoods arc as a favourite. It's not just about bringing down the powerful Briarwoods, it's about avenging Percy's family and bringing his beloved Whitestone back to its past glory, all mixed with the fighting of personal demons.
We also got Vax'ildans overarching arc with the Raven Queen and Scanlan's with Kaylie and his self-worth/discovery in the party.
In campaign three, the struggle of Fjord getting over Uk'otoa's influence and turning to the Wildmother, rediscovering himself. Bright Queen's Favor with freeing Yuza, uncovering Nott's past, grappling with their preconceptions of the empire and the dynasty, and meeting Essek. Losing then Recovering Yasha from Obann. Traveler Con.
This post about the first third of the C2 comparing it to C1 explains quite well how M9 is driven by the party's personal stakes over any obligation to any institution.
Not only personal stakes that build the value of the campaign, but places that grow as their own: Whitestone, Emon, Zephrah, Xhorhas, the Menagerie Coast, Zedash, etc.
That's what's missing from Campaign 3: anchors and personal stakes.
Bells Hells doesn't really care about anything! We're entrenched in the Ruidus plot ever since we learned what ruidusborn means in the beginning of the campaign and yet, what does that mean to them? It was the subject of Imogen's dreams and afflictions but what else? The main victims of it will be the gods, but they repeatedly state how much they don't care for the gods and are in doubt if losing them would be bad anyway.
In a certain perspective, I don't blame them - the plot has grown so massive and subjective, while they haven't - they're still level 10 nobodies against a god-eating moon-shaped monster and the insanely powerful guy that wants to free it.
Bells Hells doesn't care for the places they walk through! Only two members of the party are actually from Marquet! Imogen and Dorian. And both are running from their past! so they don't even want to be there! Ashton hates everything about it and all the others have no reason to cling to it.
Jrusar was such a great city with great dynamics that were only half explored and they don't seem to care to return to it even though so much goes unexplored. Yios meant nothing nor did Heartmoor or the Taloned Highlands (and its apparently juicy political intrigues nobody cared to explore) and barely a mention of Ank'harel or the Silken Squall.
WHY do we keep going back to Taldorei???
Marquet as a whole goes mostly unexplored and underused in the campaign and it's so upseting.
Bells Hells have nothing to lose! They hold no personal stakes to the plot, most of them don't have families and those that do feel like something so distant and impersonal, no place or city they love or feel connected to, the only thing they owned (the very valuable skyship rip) they destroyed with barely any consideration. Their morals feel like the only thing at stake and even that feels already lost.
C3 is pulling too much from past campaigns. From the moment they first contacted the VM people, it felt like a mistake, and every appearance since has felt so much like fan service (especially bc specific fan favourites are the recurring appearances, no variety). The time spent in Whitestone, the connections to Delilah, everything with Keyleth, etc.
This last one, in particular, contributes to that group of NPCs feeling, always revolving around some other character struggle - who cares what is going on with Bells Hells when Vax's trapped in an orb and Keyleth is half dying, and Caleb is in an anti-magic collar, and Trent is probably loose, and this character and that character...
We haven't spent proper time with C3-exclusive NPCs excluding Nana Morri since episode 50! No Lord Eshteross or Xandis or Ira or Jiana Hexum or the Green Seekers or Milo. It was so special to me having Dancer and Imahara Joe around even if briefly.
And Lord Eshteross death left such a huge gap in the dynamics of the party with the world. I think it was premature, especially because the thirst to avenge him (which I suppose was meant to fuel their hate and intention to kill Otohan) lasted so little and from there on out began the heavy and meta-gamey (and personally, OOC) relying on VM characters.
The ticking clock on the apogee solstice strained much of the campaign and brought this looming fear of 'if we don't take care of it nobody will so we can't waste time', therefore the alternative paths and personal arcs fell to the sidelines in favor of the elephant in the room, so it felt like several episodes of dragging towards this event, then the peak of ep 50-51, to re-start the drag of post moon beam.
Guest PCs are a whole other can of worms I'm not ready to explore also bc it entails a lot, but it's a shared sentiment that people miss Dorian and what he brought to the table.
On a personal view, the Hellcath Valley was my favorite arc. Bassuras felt so tactile and real and gritty, we had a clear objective of infiltrating the Paragon's Call and retrieving Armand Treshi, Deathwish Run, the mystery of Dusk unveiling into Yu, Fearne's parents encounter, Ira, Imahara Joe and reveals about Dancer and D., first FCG nervous attack, Otohan battle and Laudna's death. SO MUCH.
Special mentions to everything Jrusar and Shade Creepers, Heartmoor and the Museum, Savalirwood, and the time spent on the Silver Sun.
I miss these small-scale objectives, I miss the C3 NPCs, I miss Marquet, I miss turning our eyes to these character tensions and exploration, I miss the one-on-one talks, the unity they shared in those dire moments.
I can't wait to leave the Predathos plot and all the repetitive discussions within it behind.
This doesn't cover everything (interpersonal relationships are a whole other spectrum of discussion) but a few things I feel puts an obstacle towards people liking this campaign when comparing the past ones.

Hush EA spoilers
(also a whole lot of word vomit. and for once its not copied and pasted from texts i sent to my boyfriend)
I TOLD YALL I TOLD YALL VEGA WASNT DEAD!!
okay wow theres a LOT to unpack here. uhm.
so the general theory that demons dont go to Death when they die has been confirmed!! yippee!! their magic just gets scattered to the winds and it seems like its up to someone to stitch said magic back together in order to revive(?) the demon that was killed. yay!!
taking a moment to talk about Hush because HUSHH?? Hush freaking out about how he killed Vega and how Vega confused him was just. heart-breaking. omg. i was expecting many things today, but not Hush of all people having a breakdown. that really hit too close to home </3
now, Hush mentioned something when talking about Vega: he used the term "anacruses" to refer to our beloved manipulator. hello? sudden lore drop?? question mark??
more lore drops is Hush talking about how he met Vega before he was formed, and how he thinks he wasnt supposed to remember the demon, and i quote: "But a part of me, a tiny echo within me is made of those who made me, and that’s the part of me that knows him. Knows… Vega. The daemon before the demon. The voice before the song broke from the stave. I don’t think I’m supposed to remember him."
focusing on the "voice before the song broke from the stave" part; i looked up the term "anacruses", and what i find interesting is that the word "anacrusis" popped up. "anacrusis" has multiple meanings, but one of them caught my eye: "one or more unstressed notes before the first bar line of a piece or passage."
now, i dont know much about instrument lore, but (correct me if im wrong) this is referring to music. personally, i think this is really interesting (this may be the autism speaking), because we know that d(a)emons have some sort of connection to the spellsong. im sure Gavin or Hush maybe explained it once, i cant really remember. we also know that Hush is literally the silence in the spellsong. the plural of "anacrusis" is "anacruses". you can see where this is going.
we know that Vega is really old. we know he was around before the Cacophony, which makes me think that he was one of the first daemons to be created. like, "within the first ten" kind of first. Hush calling Vega "one of the Anacruses" has me thinking some things.
firstly, the term "Anacruses" may just be a sort of title for d(a)emons who were created before the Cacophony. this is plausible, and i think it would make sense. it could also refer to d(a)emons who were created before the existence of the spellsong, maybe?
we dont know much about the spellsong, other than that its this non-corporeal thing that d(a)emons and Hush have a connection to (and if we really want to reach, the Sovereigns as well). we know that every empowered person's core has a "voice" in the spellsong, and that if said person dies, their "voice" goes silent.
we dont know when it was created, or how it was created. but the definition of "anacrusis" got me thinking... maybe the "Anacruses" daemons are the ones who created the spellsong. its a bit of a reach (thats an understatement that a very long reach), but i think it's plausible. its like FNAF lore: if you dont think about it, it makes sense.
you must be thinking, "wow vinn thats a lot of word vomit! what are you trying to say?" what i said a few paragraphs ago: "Anacruses" just means "old demon" but with significant lore and meaning attached to it. thats it.
(i really like how Erik's brain works — props to him for working this into the possible spellsong lore)
i dont really have much to say about Hush saying he existed before he... well existed. what i take from that is that he could have been a non-corporeal being who physically couldnt take a physical form until very recently. whatever created him took parts of themself to make him. i dunno, im still trying to understand it myself.
uhhh anyways thank you for coming to my ted talk, youve been a great audience as per usual :D
