Spaceship Earth, the visual and thematic centerpiece of Epcot, weighs 16 million pounds, measures 165 feet in diameter and encompasses 2.2 million cubic feet of space. The outer "skin" of Spaceship Earth is made up of 11,324 aluminum and plastic-alloy triangles. I’ve really developed a special fondness for Epcot recently. About seven months ago, Colleen was telling me that she didn’t think she had ever seen Illuminations all the way through. Growing up going to the parks with our family, we rarely made it a priority. We’d always take that time to ride one more ride while the lines were shorter or try to beat the crowds to the bus stop. On our trip in February 2019, she had tried to see Illuminations, but had gotten stuck in line for Test Track. So in September she was pretty bummed that it was ending and she’d never get the chance. I remember saying, “Colleen, why don’t we just go ahead and get our annual passes? We’ve been wanting to do it and this is the perfect time!” A week later we were taking our first trip to Disney without the rest of our family and purchasing our very first APs. 😆 That was such an incredible trip for both of us and a lot of the weeks highlights took place in Epcot. We got to see Illuminations twice, we saw the final show, and we were there when Epcot Forever had its premiere. It’s now become our tradition start our Disney trips at Epcot. So, ich kann es kaum glauben, aber ich kann endlich verkünden, dass ich ab September im Epcot in Disneyworld, Florida arbeiten werde!!

Falls ihr von dem Programm noch nichts gehört habt, dann schaut gerne mal in die Jobbeschreibung: https://jobs.disneycareers.com/job/orlando/germany-cultural-representative-program/391/12022222.

Das heißt, ich werde nicht, wie die meisten denken, als Minnie Mouse verkleidet durch den Park hüpfen, sondern im Dirndl Deutschland repräsentieren. Da mir eine Position in Food & Beverages angeboten wurde, werde ich also reichlich Bier ausschenken und hoffentlich im Biergarten Kellner sein. Wie man merkt, alles ganz typisch und traditionell deutsch ;) . Dabei werden mir wahrscheinlich viele Vorurteile begegnen, über die man dann im Nachhinein sicherlich gut lachen kann.

Ich war schon häufiger in den Parks und konnte vor Ort mit den Mitarbeitern reden, die geschwärmt haben von ihrem Job. Seit 2015 hatte ich dieses Programm im Auge und nun, da mein Bachelor Abschluss kurz bevor steht, passt es zeitlich sehr gut.

Der Bewerbungsprozess sah dann so aus. Disney schreibt immer für bestimmte Zeiträume aus, sodass ich mich erst letzten November für den Zeitraum Mai-November 2020 bewerben konnte. Dann hieß es erst einmal geduldig sein und warten. Online hieß es schon, dass im Februar Interviews stattfinden würden, weshalb ich wusste, sie müssten sich vorher melden. So war es dann auch, dass ich Mitte Januar die Einladung nach Frankfurt am Main bekam. Natürlich habe ich mich sehr gefreut. Ich hatte viel Kontakt zu meiner Gastschwester, welche in Disneyworld arbeitet und mir ein paar Tipps gegeben hat. Außerdem habe ich eine Facebook Gruppe gefunden, durch die ich mich mit anderen Bewerbern austauschen konnte. Das war wirklich sehr hilfreich! Dadurch konnte ich mich mit anderen Bewerbern austauschen, von denen ein paar, ähnlich wie ich, besorgt waren, da sie Tattoos hatten.

Der Interviewtag. Ich hatte mich entschieden, erst am frühen Morgen anzureisen, damit ich mir die Hotelkosten spare. Andere waren schon früher angereist und hatten sich abends vorher schonmal getroffen. Das war sicherlich die entspanntere Art und Weise. Ich bin morgens um 4 Uhr los mit der Bahn und war um 7 Uhr in der Stadt. Das Interview fand in einem Hotel statt, wo wir ab 9 Uhr ankommen sollten, weswegen ich mir dann noch die Zeit in einem Bäcker vertrieben habe. Um kurz nach 8 kamen dort auch noch ein paar andere Bewerber hin, wir hatten uns abgesprochen, und wir konnten uns schonmal austauschen und nervös machen. Wir sind dann alle gemeinsam um 9 Uhr zum Hotel und wurden dort von einem sehr freundlichen Amerikaner empfangen (ihr müsst wissen, die Recruiter Fliegen aus Amerika nach Europa und rekrutieren in verschiedenen Ländern für Epcot). Das gab uns dann schon einmal ein gutes Gefühl. Es waren recht viele Bewerber da. Über Facebook hatten wir nur 7 Leute gefunden, beim Interview waren dann definitiv über 30 Personen. Nach kurzem Warten gab es als erstes eine kleine Präsentation von den Recruitern. Sie stellten sich und Disney vor und erklärten die angebotenen Jobs genauer. Es gab ein kleines Quiz, in dem man Kugelschreiber gewinnen konnte, aber leider konnte ich nichts ergattern. Und ein paar Videos, die uns noch mehr motiviert haben. Das ging ca. 1 Stunde und dann ging es um 11 Uhr los mit den Einzelinterviews. Diese hatten wir im Vornherein belegt, ich wusste, dass mein Interview zwischen 12 und 13 Uhr stattfand. Wir blieben alle im Hotel, hätten aber auch außerhalb unserer Zeiten weggehen können. Das Warten war fürchterlich. Wir waren alle super nervös. Das Spannendste war, dass jeder super nervös ins Interview ging und raus kam mit einem, das war einfach. Also musste man sich nicht so wuschst machen. Die Interviews waren mehr ein Smalltalk. Ich wurde als erstes aufgefordert, etwas über mich zu erzählen. Dabei habe ich dann versucht, genau die Punkte anzusprechen, die für den Job relevant sein könnten. Ich wurde Sachen gefragt wie, ob ich in der Hitze arbeiten könnte, ob ich Probleme hätte, mit anderen Menschen zusammen zu leben, ob ich schwer heben kann. Außerdem sollte ich etwas aus meiner Heimatstadt erzählen, was ja genau das ist, was wir im Job dann auch machen werden. Dann wurde noch gefragt, ob ich ein Tattoo habe und ob ich es mit Make-Up covern kann. Und ob ich lieber im Merchandise oder Food & Beverages arbeiten wollte, bei mir zweiteres. Am Ende sollte ich noch etwas erzählen, was ich dachte, dass sie noch über mich wissen sollte und konnte Fragen stellen. Und dann war es innerhalb von 10 Minuten geschafft (mir kam es vor wie eine Minute). Ich ging auch mit einem guten Gefühl raus und saß dann noch im Hotel bei den anderen bis meine Bahn abends ging.

Und dann hieß es warten. Die ersten Personen bekamen schon 2 Tage nach ihrem Interview eine Rückmeldung. Da war ich leider nicht dabei. Aber innerhalb von weniger als einer Woche bekam ich auch meine Zusage für den gewünschten Bereich. Einige haben jetzt (nach 2 Wochen) immer noch keine Rückmeldung, aber uns wurde auch gesagt, dass es noch etwas dauern kann. Tja jetzt muss ich noch mein Studium abschließen und in 6 Monaten geht es dann los! Ich freu mich so sehr!

The Disney monorail 🚝 is so great! 😀 . There is nothing like the feeling you get when you see it. 🥰 . When you board it. 😍 . When you ride it. 🤗 . And when you get off it without it breaking down! 🤣 . But seriously, these things may not have taken-off all over the country as a viable mode of transportation like Walt envisioned. But WDW would not be the same without them. . And the convenience of staying at the Contemporary, Poly, or GF and being able to shave off an easy 1.5-2hrs of transportation to and from the parks when compared to driving or taking buses is so amazing. . It is a luxury, certainly. But it can change the entire feel of your trip. .
