For the June/July collection of @cityofprogress was proposed a collaboration between writers and artists on the subject of sports. I never did that kind of thing, being afraid to not been able to draw something worth it but for once, I tried.
I was paired with @valkyriekitti who wanted to write an equestrian sports AU for a while. A good opportunity to learn how to draw and paint horses 😅
She explained me her idea and today, we finally post the result of our common work.
First, let me introduce you the horses...
Tumblr media
Of course, Cailtyn is a perfect rider in dressage competitions.
Tumblr media
Vi is a western rider. Before the first competition of the year, she shares a little moment with her horse...
Tumblr media
And they know how to shine when they enter the main arena for their reining show.
Tumblr media
I invite you to read the first chapter of Season Opening on AO3 : https://archiveofourown.org/works/48633523/chapters/122677078
Thank you so much @valkyriekitti for your trust and all your explanations!

as a small addendum, I'd like to note that sexism is a major problem in horse racing and I don't really want to refute that. It's notable that no female jockey has ever won the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes, the first two legs of the Triple Crown, and only single digit numbers of women have ridden in the races period. Julie Krone was the first female jockey to ever ride in the Belmont Stakes (the final leg), back in 1993. She actually won, and she's a living legend because of it. But no woman has ever won the Derby or Preakness.
And only six women have ever ridden in the Derby: Diane Crump, Patti Cooksey, Andrea Seefeldt, Julie Krone, Rosemary Homeister and Rosie Napravnik. The number of women who've ridden in the Preakness is even lower: three. Patti Cooksey placed sixth in 1985. Andrea Seefeldt placed seventh in 1994, and Rosie Napravnik placed 3rd on Mylute in 2013 and 9th in 2014 on Bayern.
So Julie Krone stands alone as the only woman to ever win any of the three Triple Crown races. And that was 30 years ago.

The upper cut shows the forward cars rushing down on the ball at full speed on the face off. The bail is between them. The lower picture shows a mallet man thrown out. Did I already day that once, just once, I want to see a discussion about ethical equestrian sports where the side that's against equestrian sports has actual and proven arguments? Each fucking time this hypocritical discussion flares up again there are no actual (proven and or scientific) arguments from the side against equestrian sports and the people screaming bloody murder never want to discuss about the sport when the goal of the discussion could be actual improvements and the betterment of the sport. And then you get to know these people try to are their cats and dogs eat like human vegans and don't have a single critical word to say about sports that involve dogs like agility or stuff, even if it's simulating protecting a flock of sheep

Chronicle of the Horse | 6 December, 2022
The Virgina Tech Helmet Lab has released its much-anticipated equestrian helmet ratings. Taking the top spot in the rankings is the $460 Champion Revolve X-Air MIPS helmet, but in good news for riders who are both frugal and safety conscious, the rest of the top three slots were filled by sub-$60 helmets, the Tuffrider Carbon Fiber ($58) and the IRH Equi-Lite ($50)
