the twins have a deep and unreasonable dislike for erik klose. at first it was bc he was the only thing that could convince nicky to leave them and go back to germany (and yes, he did try) but when nicky stayed it became much more petty.

they definitely didn’t have a good first impression. from erik’s point of view, his bf left an incredibly toxic family that messed him up a lot and was finally starting to heal in germany, only to have that taken away by a car accident. from erik’s point of view, nicky would be dropping everything to take on debt, two jobs, his parents, a minyard out of juvie and a minyard on drugs. nicky was so young and taking care of two traumatized teenagers is hard, no matter how much they deserve a second chance. so yes, maybe the twins did overhear erik trying to convince nicky on skype in the first week of him moving to the us to come back. and yes, when nicky refused, it might have opened them up to him a little more. but they certainly didn’t like that little german bitch that made nicky stare at the wall for 5 minutes after the wall and cry.

the first time erik visited them was before the foxes and the twins for the first time joined in a common goal: freeze erik out. all he got from them was glares and frigid silence, and yes he did want to take nicky far far away from america and these 16 year olds with death glares, but he also trusted his boyfriend. so he endured their attempts to shut him out (literally they tried to lock him out of the house) and met their hostility with an easy smile. this made them hate him more.

listen, the twins are possessive of nicky. they don’t show their love well but they will lash out at anyone that is a perceived threat to them. whenever erik and nicky fight? boy do they make erik suffer. they’re not great at comforting nicky when he’s crying, but andrew easily calls erik from a burner phone when he knows it’s 3 am in germany, only to hang up immediately and call again. aaron signs erik up for a bunch of telemarketer calls and spam reports all his social media accounts. it’s not much but nicky never finds out and that’s enough.

not to say erik just takes it. he’s a strong advocater for nicky rights and when he comes to the us he will not hesitate to lecture the twins about their treatment of nicky. he has valid points but they ignore that and let it fuel their righteous anger of “who’s this asshole that comes in and tells us how to treat nicky, we know him better than he does” (do they?)

when they’re all older and more settled in their skin the twins stop viewing erik as a threat, but they still grumble in annoyance or roll their eyes whenever he’s around. nicky loves it bc they look so much like brothers when they do that.

the twins have a dislike for erik, but it’s not a dislike for him it’s a deep love for nicky. he was the twins first advocate, and this is their way of having his back. they’re defending nicky against a false threat, but they care enough to defend.

thinking about nicky and erik's video calls slowly shifting to just phone calls because nicky knows it's harder to lie about his stress through a screen. about nicky shutting the door to his bedroom after another night of trying to prod his cousins into eating dinner together and just breaking down in silence because god knows he's had enough practice with that.

thinking about nicky giving in and calling erik at fuck am after the whole thing at the bar and andrew's trial, and erik being this close to dropping everything and coming to get him, i don't care if they're your cousins, nicky, they're hurting you and family isn't supposed to hurt. (but being burned by family is all nicky has ever known about love until erik and the kloses.)

thinking about nicky being unable to visit erik during breaks because he doesn't know if he would be able to make himself come back. about erik coming to him, instead, and for that week, nicky is glowing so much that even the twins have to admit they've never seen their cousin look so happy.

thinking about nicky building a home for himself with shaking hands, and leaving its warmth to do it all over again for two boys that have been locked out for to long.

THE KIDS

in order of age

Nicky and Erik: they adopted a girl named Coraline when she was about 7 years old. she was very shy, but they put her in therapy and she's becoming more open. she doesn't talk much to adults, but she's very good with her "cousins"

Aaron and Katelyn: their first child is a little girl named Sadine, after one of Katelyn's high school friends that passed away. she and Andrew are very close, and he enables her brattiness. she's actually a very good kid, but she's not afraid to speak her mind. she surfs and skateboards, and likes to teach her youngest sister how to skate.

Dan and Matt: their first child is a little boy, Caden, who is two years older than Sophie. Dan and Matt had kids a bit later than everyone else, because Matt didn't want to be away for too long, but once Dan was settled at Palmetto (as the head coach) they started trying. Caden doesn't like sports, but he really likes dinosaurs

Aaron and Katelyn: their second child is a little boy, Alex. he is not named after anybody, they just liked the name. he is a lot more reserved than his big sister, and spends more time with the cats when his uncles are babysitting

Aaron and Katelyn: the next two are twins. Kayla, and Maya. they are very adventurous, and like to play switch tricks on their parents. think like the twins from Harry Potter

Dan and Matt: their second child is a little girl named Sophie. she plays soccer, and her favorite animal is a mermaid

Aaron and Katelyn: their last child is Andrea, named after her uncle. she was born almost a month premature and spent some time in the NICU, but pulled through. she and Andrew are twin flames, almost as similar as Aaron and Andrew are. she plays baseball, and learned how to read when she was like,,,3 years old

kevin decides not to have kids or adopt, but he always goes to their games and concerts to cheer them on because he never got that as a child

My second favourite Nicky Hemmick headcanon lately is this:

Nicky fell first, but Erik fell so much harder.

Like Nicky keeps talking about this german god over and over and over and he mentions to Neil how starstruck he was when Erik came to pick him up when he flew in to Germany and it's so clear, that Nicky was obsessed from the first second.

But the idea of Erik, half-way through his teenage self discovery, at the age of like 16, picking up this anxious, nervous, silent american and thinking "wow what a weird kid" is so dear to me. Because then Erik starts to like him when he makes a joke in the middle of their family dinner, and starts to like him when he starts to smile more and answers all the stupid "so you are american" questions their classmates ask him and suddenly Erik is falling in love bit by bit and by the end of it, he is willing to send Nicky back to US, because he knows Nicky will come back.

And all the foxes think that Nicky is the most smitten one in their relationship, until Erik and Katelyn are invated to a foxes trip and they see Erik watching Nicky drunkenly talk like he hang up the whole sky. And all of the foxes are just like "wow, this is what it is about" They are the longest healthy relationship in that friend group. They are the proof that it can work out no matter what.

Idk, I just like to think they are the only couple ever. They are the blueprint, idc what anyone says.

you can’t convince me nicky hemmick majored in business or some bs. that man is an education major. he moves to germany and becomes a teacher. elementary, middle, high school, he doesn’t care bc kids of all ages love him. he’s authentic and funny and cool, considering is baseline for behavior is the twinyards. he loves being around kids and teaching them, and they love him back. mr. hemmick (or klose) is a safe person for students, full of energy and always willing to help people out. i need nicky hemmick to have a posse of obsessed eight year olds following him around like he’s jesus.

Nicky and Eriks first meeting. When Nicky first came to Germany for his exchange year it was a last resort for him. His parents denied him his sexuality and punished him for it. He was told again and again that he is unnatural and wrong. That he shouldn’t feel the way he does. When he arrived at the airport and saw his host brother waiting form him with a big smile and a sign welcoming him to his new home he felt a hesitant flicker of hope. Maybe he was welcome here. Sure he’d better hide his true feelings, but his host family didnt know yet. And maybe if he could keep his sinnful being from them he could be loved again. Nicky resolved himself to keep his thoughts hidden, but when he saw a glimpse of Eriks wrist adorend with a pride band he felt his resolve crumbling. Maybe he didnt need to hide his true self after all.
