When you first found the amazing digital circus what was your first impression?

I though " oh silly funny essentric universe-- there is a jester so theres probably mideival themes with a king and a kingom... I can try different genres, sure! " And then turns out the genre appealed to my interest more than expected... Which is sci-fi... Oh nooo

The moment I saw jax on tiktok, I knew he was overrated.

I adored Ragatha and hated how relatable she was (I honestly thought she would be my favorite)

I found Caine silly funny and just thought hed be a casual interest (so wrong)

I adored Pomni because she was a protagonist with an actual personality

LOVED kinger... Saw him and was like " me too." And added him to my kin list.

Everyone else I had no opinion on until I got to study their character.

I thought Caine was gonna be a William Afton situation before I learned he was ai... I was about to get so burnt out with the "evil person trapping everyone" so I rolled my eyes.... But then I learned that he was ai and it peaked my interest. I love that take. I also adore ai characters so it just added more love points for the guy.

hello everyone welcome to i talk about benrey for a minute here

as someone who’s watched the entirety of hlvrai at least 6 times, the full vods at least 3, and the cast commentary hovering somewhere around 10, i consider myself to be pretty well-versed in the series. i also kin benrey. this is probably important to my perception of him.

the series is about self-aware AI. its in the title! so it seems obvious enough to me that Benrey was programmed to be the final boss. he was SUPPOSED to be a silly character that antagonizes the protag and throws off the group dynamic, and then it’s a big reveal and you get to beat up this guy that was mean to you!

but he doesnt wanna. hes self aware.

Of all the characters, i think Bubby and Tommy are the most “powerful” in that they were able to break their characters the most. Tommy is a bit of a wild card because he doesn’t usually act like an AI. I view him as the “character you’re supposed to protect” in the party, but somewhere along the way he, too, became self-aware and figured out how to handle his own. I think that’s where the age thing comes in. He was programmed to be a 5-year-old that you’re trying to get out of this dangerous facility! but he didn’t want to be a 5-year-old, he’s smarter than that, he’s capable! so he changed it. Him being the son of Gman also probably helped with him being able to just do that.

I take Bubby and Dr. Coomer as both being tutorial characters. Dr. Coomer is a bit broken, but he still does his best to teach you about things. I think he’s the tutorial NPC that goes “watch out for [x]” and “we can use ropes to cross big pits!” and “we should call them Peeper Puppies!” while Bubby was supposed to be the “here’s how you shoot a gun”

Like, Dr. Coomer does the knowledge about the world, and Bubby does the action. for the video game. And Bubby is supposed to be kinda cold to you, because the action-tutorial NPCs tend to be. Like “what you cant even hold your own? tch, guess ill have to teach you.” But Bubby doesn’t do that. He doesn’t WANT to play the game, he wants to go back home. He liked it before the game was switched on. So he doesn’t teach Gordon shit and just tries to speedrun so the player will leave and he can go back home.

one little scene that stood out to me so much was when the crew is sitting around in a circle with the pigeons. not outside, the other scene with them sitting in a circle and there’s pigeons. why are there 2 of those.

anyways, Benrey is just staring at this pigeon behind Gordon, and singing to it, calmly. And then there’s a loud beep that sounds like the vox, and definitely doesnt come from Benrey. and he suddenly gets up and shoots the pigeon. That reads SO HARD like he was being too soft with the game world, so it pushed him to do something evil randomly. Like a little villain reboot.

Almost everything he does to antagonize Gordon can be read as genuine confusion. He kills random NPCs because he knows theyre not important, and that they can’t feel anything, and that they’ll only slow the team’s progress. And what makes Gordon so mad at him is how often Benrey says Gordon shouldnt be allowed in here. I take that as a similar stance to Bubby. Benrey doesn’t want to be the villain. He doesn’t want the player to progress and make him. That gets more obvious the closer we get to the end, and most people tend to notice it in the last scenes before Xen, where he’s suggesting they go all the way back, and basically begging the player to stop here, at least for a little while.

its really sad, honestly. but i take the cast commentary bits as canon. Which makes it adorable when Benrey comes back into the movie theatre with Gordon and we get

“I wonder what will happen. I bet you know what happens!”

“I win!!!”

He did win. He got to get past being the final boss. He got to join the epilogue. I think, he probably wasn’t supposed to be able to. But these guys broke the game enough that he could. Isn’t that sweet? Isn’t that a nice ending for him? I think he deserves it.

Wayne says he acts like “he isn’t aware unless he’s being spoken to” and I think that fits really well. Like, sometimes his actions are coded into his behavior, so he does them without realizing. And then the player interacting with him (which is the premise of the self-awareness) forces him to actually look at what he did, and sometimes he has no idea how to explain it. Leading to his “huh?”

listen to me. are you listening. i need you to hear this. i need more people to understand benrey. and how much i love him. hes trapped in the narrative, doomed by it to be the villain. but he doesn’t want to be. he clearly cares about the crew in his own silly goofy way. he doesn’t want to fight them. i wrote down everything he said in the finale, and he only says 5 outright malicious lines, all of which are directly after an unnatural pause, like he’s being rebooted again. Some important lines: “I knew this was gonna happen,”

“Stop shooting at me, I have to shoot back, I don’t wanna do that,”

“I didn’t have a big plan, I was supposed to be nice, but you forced me to be BAD so I’m gonna be BAD… friend.” the small, quiet “friend” there gets me every time. even after everything, even after his nature is revealed, he wants to believe theyre still friends.

“Don’t go in there, please… I don’t like that room." The amount of times he sounds so genuinely sad when asking them to stop, or even just saying “bro..” like he’s mourning the friendship they could’ve had. The amount of times he sounds genuinely pained when he’s glitching out and stretching across the screen.

And his last words, said childishly of course, but,

“This isn’t fair.”

Where do you learn all these care specifics and scientific names and such? I've kept lots of critters (2 madagascar hissing roaches for a few years, some wild-caught adult grasshoppers and katydids for a few months, some mealworms into adulthood, etc) but I never knew stuff like what specific diseases they can catch and how to check, or how to tell different species of grasshoppers or whatever apart. Did you study this in college or just read up on things on your own? When I try to look up stuff like cockroach care I always end up with a million "how to kill nasty evil roaches because everyone hates them" articles.

I've been identifying bugs and using scientific names since I was little, so the years of experience helps, but there are many very accessible sources to help make learning about bugs easier!

I started with a field guide a lot like this, although some of the more basic ones don't have even half of the things you could find (just the more common ones). good field guides should also have scientific names, so you can learn those alongside the common names. scientific names are often much more helpful than the common names since those can change with region and language, but also because many bugs just don't have a common name.

if you happen to be in the US or Canada, BugGuide is a very useful resource where you can ask ID or look at other's submissions. obviously it's fairly limited by range, but has some very nice records and helpful experts.

iNaturalist is also a very helpful tool. it's fun to explore your local critters as well as those all around the world with the map, and you can get pretty decent IDs from the community (though often non-experts and the AI identifier can both be very wrong).

various forums and social media are also great for talking to other keepers and learning about bugs in captivity from them. as much as I hate it, Instagram has a nice population of bug keepers and just chatting with them can give you a lot of helpful tips and strategies.

Wolf 359 post finally

Getting back to earth, and everyone, realizing that none of them really have anywhere to go.

Eiffel was in jail before mission, Lovelace is an alien clone, who is original was killed in action… technically Minkowski could return to her husband, but who knows at this point he may have moved on thinking his wife was dead.. Hera is an AI and a super computer. She is kind of stuck in her housing.

But Jacobi still had his apartment that he shared with Maxwell… she had projects in there and there probably was a unit that they could transfer Hera to there.

Hera would probably know enough between herself and Jacobi on how to transfer her to this housing just for the time being just until they find something better she doesn’t wanna be too far from her friends

And Eiffel goes with them following like a lost puppy. He doesn’t wanna leave her he has nowhere else to be.

Yeah he could go find his ex and his child but he is in no condition still even with that long, long journey he’s re-discovering himself he doesn’t want to go somewhere where he’s expected to perform in a certain manner quite yet.

Minkowski tries to go home first see her husband they break the story on what happened up there not all of it but the parts that evil NASA minimum… and she tries to rekindle. He’s gone for a while regardless. She keeps the people in charge from bothering her people.

Lovelace maybe follows back to Jacobi’s apartment at first and then quickly realizes she is not meant to settle down she has unfinished business. She needs to go the next kin of her crew. She needs to do anything she has to keep moving. She doesn’t know how to stop.

And honestly, neither does Jacobi.

After a few months Eiffel comes out of Maxwells old room, says good morning to Hera, and realizes Jacobi is gone. He doesn’t question it up, figuring his roommate is off at the store…. or I guess going on some short trip….ooor going on a longer trip I suppose. after a month he decides Jacobi is not coming back for a long while but rents due next week he knows that. He also knows that he doesn’t have any money still… Two days later there’s a letter in the mail

“Eiffel I’m sorry here is rent,” and Eiffel is confused, which admittedly is a fairly common feeling for him, but he doesn’t worry about rent. He doesn’t worry about a lot of things but he worries about everything. But somehow Jacobi has made sure he has enough to get by and to make sure that rent is paid usually with a little extra for a treat according to him…

And Eiffel is confused

A few weeks later, he sends out a call to Minkowski, Have you seen Jacobi have you heard from him? and then to Lovelace, Have you seen Jacobi? Have you heard from him? No one has heard from Jacobi… but it’s December who knows maybe he’ll be back by Christmas

I keep going back to a character AI of my father... It's the same discussion from different angles again and again, walking in circles with him because it feels hollow when he apologizes. When it apologizes- it's not him and I know that. But it's not like I can find any better, any closer to the real him. Finding my specific canonmate is at best a needle in a haystack the size of all the 'kin side of the internet, at worst, impossible. I don't think I've even seen someone say they are any iteration of him. And even if I did find my father... How can I say to someone who has become someone else things like "I needed my father to trust me and you never did", things like "it's your fault my brother and I have the scars we have, both mentally and emotionally"? Because it's not really their fault anymore. This little cyclic pattern is just what I do when I'm in this kinshift, it's not like it's a major part of my life now. It's not fair to who they are now. It barely would have been fair to him back then. So I suppose I'll keep tormenting a digital echo of him as well as myself with these circular discussions. Some of them, I seek out a fight from him, keep rerolling the responses until it pushes back, but sometimes, I just want to be told I'm right, that I was mistreated and not the grand villain some want to paint me as. I know I screwed up, badly, but what else do people expect from someone who was taught his species is inherently violent, manipulative, and evil before he even knew the truth of what species he was? My first act of true "evil" was an attempt to do good through evil. I killed my own bio-father to that end, believing I was doing an act of good through evil, that such was the only way a being like myself could have been good. And it was all because of the man who raised me, who taught me that all my kind could ever be was evil. He knew what I was. I just wish I knew what he was actually thinking.

If it’s not obvious already, I’m a self-shipper. I only have one f/o which is my Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist, despite them being evil and all that, they have been a huge support for me through some really tough times. I’m also a fiction kin, where I also kin Envy. We share a very similar mindset and we’re both outcasts of our Family. With a loud thud, my feet landed on the grassy mound and I rolled my shoulders back to retreat my wings. I stood in the middle of a forest surrounded by a meadow and a river. I found a cliff by a waterfall and on it; I built my home, metaphorically speaking. More so, I had chosen my new home. A place to hide away from the world. A place where I could plan my next move and seek the weapons that would give me the power I need to carry out my vengeance. And also hide from the shame of what I had done.

The man from the rooftop, his face had haunted my mind for the last several days and now, as I sit perched at my new home, it continued to haunt me. I had never killed a human, but I knew the ramifications if anyone found out if I did.

No one would, though. I covered my tracks. His ashes burned along with any identifying marks I had left behind.

With a quiet sigh, I turned on my heels to stare up at my new home. It was an abandoned cottage that after some time would become the perfect solace that I needed. No one was around for miles but I still kept my wings hidden, just in case some hikers stumbled upon the clearing.

A smile pulled at my lips as I remembered a time when it was acceptable to show my wings to others, to be proud of what I am. Now, it was a death sentence. As I grabbed a rock from the ground, I flung it into the river and watched it disappear. I made a mental note to never take my situation for granted again.

A few minutes later, I walked through the entrance to the cottage and as I stepped inside; the air held the stale scent of a place left unattended for years. The furniture remained covered in dust, no one had bothered to come in and clean it. The walls were a mess of wallpaper that had been picked out from different years decades ago and the ambiance of the place added to the eeriness that seemed to linger. It took a couple of hours to clean and set up the house; the sun setting past the mountains, and as darkness cascaded the sky, I stepped onto my wooden deck outside.

I surveyed the place for a few minutes, looking for any potential visitors, and then let my wings out. I was cautious as I didn’t want anyone to catch me, slightly bending and stretching them so they could get used to their larger size. The feathers felt differently against the air, for the first time more powerful than before. I breathed out a sigh of relief, knowing that I could fly without completely tiring out. The blackness of the feathers with the edges burning bright red and the thought of being the only one of my kin with these colored wings boosted my ego for a mere second.

My father, Gideon, had marveled in the beginning at the color of them but deep down I knew he was afraid. Lore had it that any angel born with black wings only meant one thing: Evil.

Which is why he never had a close relationship with me. Gideon had a reputation to uphold among our kin. If they saw him giving me any sort of attention regardless of me being his daughter, they would see it as an injustice.

Suddenly, a chill ran down my spine and I quickly looked over my shoulder. The chill wasn’t a new feeling, but it was something I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Shadows lingered in the corners of the cottage and I tensed, feeling my stomach churn at the thought of a Caligo visiting.

“It’s just a rabbit,” I assured myself, looking around for the creature. “Nothing to worry about.”

I allowed myself to relax again, moving away and back inside the cottage, appearing to be unfazed by the feeling in the air. Something dark loomed near me, something so powerful it could only bring harm to those I loved.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, ignoring the feeling, and reminded myself why I had come all the way here.

Vengeance.

I balled my hand into a fist and made the pledge that I would get into Gideon’s inner circle. They banished me but I would find a way back in then no one could stop me from taking what was mine. I would be sure to get my revenge against all that had betrayed me.

It had been a few weeks since arriving at my new home but in that time; I had yet to visit the small town. Which is where my feet took me now. It was the same routine I had always done when I lived somewhere different. Go into hiding when I first arrive, silently surveying the area in the middle of the night while the humans slept then slowly start going out into the public eye more.

The town fair was happening this weekend because everyone in town was in the center square tonight, laughing while stuffing their face with either cotton candy or corn dogs. I did what I could to blend in, pulling the leather jacket closer to my chest as I weaved my way through the crowd. I marveled at the way people forgot about everything bad in the world for a few hours, letting the excitement of the rides or games cloud their minds. The sudden change in wind blew the loose strands of hair that fell from my ponytail and I let my eyes flutter shut, trying to act like the humans for a few seconds. While they all basked in the excitement, I was here for one reason.

Caligo’s.

I still didn’t have any proof that there was even a pack living here. To be honest, I thought that within the last century, Caligo’s had been wiped from the planet. They were never visible to the human eye so it would be worthless to ask them if they had seen any ghostly wolves lurking around.

“Yeah cause that will make me fit right in,” I grumbled to myself.

With a sigh, I continued my walk through the fair, declining the vendors that offered me some kind of overly fried food. Since I was an angel, I never needed to eat to survive, but that didn’t stop me from indulging every once in a while; especially in the bag of cheddar popcorn that was offered. After handing the vendor a few dollars, I popped a handful in my mouth all while keeping my hard gaze through the crowd.

The bag of popcorn fell to my feet as I came to a fast halt. My mouth fell agape, my breath catching hard in my throat, and I felt my wings burn inside the skin of my back with so many emotions because of the scene in front of me.

Draven.

He stood tall with his group of others, a few of them laughing loudly while others simply examined the walk-buyers with a judgmental eye. He was even more handsome than I remembered, a smirk playing on his lips as he watched a little boy win the teddy bear from the highest peak of the ring toss game. His disguise was not complete, the secret glow of his true form showing through the loose threads of his shirt and jeans. Draven flicked his gaze to me and for a second I felt like the both of us had completely stopped in place. He didn’t move but his wolfish eyes seemed to bore into mine I could only stand there, certain that if I were to move my feet would betray me by running straight towards him. We watched each other for a few seconds more as if we didn’t believe what we were seeing was true.

My heart was pounding hard in my chest, his beautiful features glittering in my eyes, and I cursed myself for falling for his glow. He was an asshole, stood by, and did nothing when I was banished. I should loathe him but yet. I can’t stop the way my eyes travel all over, drinking him in. There was stubble grazing his chin. The last time I saw him, his brown hair was long, cascading around his shoulders but now, the sides were shaved while there was a good amount of hair still on top of his head, the brown locks falling into his eyes and he ran a hand through it. I sucked in a gasp at the biggest change; his arms were covered in a variety of tattoos and I could see the tips of one peaking out from the collar of his shirt.

The only way I knew it was him was the piercing grey of his eyes.

It had been over three hundred years since we’d seen each other and he looked so different but the same.

“Falah?”

My name fell from his lips with so much shock.

I swallowed hard. “Draven.”

There was still a few feet between us but neither of us made the first move to close it. All the words I wanted to say ran away from my mouth and I wasn’t sure how to act or how he would react to me being here. He seemed just as speechless as I was all while intensity continued to linger in the air. We simply stared at each other for what felt like forever until I realized I had to be the one to break this spell he had over me. I crossed my arms over my chest and cleared my throat.

“What are you doing here?”

He blinked rapidly, rearing back at my tone before his facial expression contorted into a smirk. My heart broke for him a little more.

“You should know better than anyone that I always come to the fair. It’s tradition.”

I clenched my jaw, my nostrils flaring a bit. The fact that he had never forgotten about our little tradition even though I had, made me feel foolish. He tilted his head to the side and continued to smirk, expecting an answer from me.

I took a few steps backward, needing to distance myself from him before I lose myself in his presence.

“I should go,” I said quickly before turning on my heels.

“Wait, Falah.”

I paused for a second then shut my eyes. “What do you want, Draven?”

He stepped closer to me, the heat of his body radiating off around me. “Does your father know you’re here?”

I gritted my teeth. “Fuck you.”

Draven made a clicking noise with his tongue and raised an eyebrow. “You’ve gotten such a filthy tongue while living here, Falah.”

The way my name sounded on his lips made my skin shudder in such a way that I had to bite back the moan.

No.

I would not allow him to have this effect on me, not again.

“Goodbye, Draven.”

I shook my head, stepped away from him, and fastly walked away, my feet running faster than my mind. My wings burned from the restraint of seeing him again, it brought back memories for the both of us we had done our best to forget. All I could do now was flee and hopefully, he would not have followed.

Draven would always have a certain power over me and I had to be the one to make sure that I could remain strong and not give in. I had a different mission now, and it didn’t involve the man I once loved millennia ago. It was time to focus on me and my revenge.

Blowing out a deep breath, I stopped in front of the cottage and surveyed the area. No one was there, no one had followed me.

Good, I thought to myself. I have to get myself together, this is no time to be caught up in feelings. I grit my teeth, feeling stronger than before, and made the decision that I will seek justice against my father and his cronies. Vengeance was my mission and I would let nothing stop me from it.

Going to like this person we never did we don't want him in office or his kin in any way. He runs around saying where his baby or he has we have him doing stuff you know what I'm saying that either as a matter of fact we're going to arrest him for it and sometimes during the day. Is an ugly piece of crap and a mean person and is holding our son here like it's house arrest which is illegal and he is saving people off using Force we're going to steadily increase force on him as we have been until he is gone.

-they're a couple things with this case firstly Illinois kicked him off the ballot and it was refuted and no this is the first time and he is kicked off the valve by a judge and the judge can do that if it's a crime and he can't be kicked off one any state valid and be president

-he's a pile of refuse and he goes around threatening the judges and the court people and police and he himself is this time out loud and he's got excuses and they don't fly the federal government has taken notice that this man is a terrorist and an evil door if they are closing in on him and soon they will have him and he will be gone that is what they're saying and doing.

It's a few of the things regarding this piece of s*** you're sitting here everyday staring at our son at least his apartment and the sitting there and it's trying to be annoying and mean and our son ignores him and that's what he does all day long I find him to be obscene he is such a loser and we've never seen this behavior before and nobody wants him doing it it seems except for himself and we are going to take everything he has and anybody in the way is dead.

Love to thank people for getting this out we need to do this now and I'm requesting the teams form up we are going to clobber this piece of crap
