Day 2 of my art advent! Today I give you an outfit idea I had for Corrin for a FEH Christmas alt "silver bells Corrin" because their dragon form is silver you get it? I think she's cute and I have a Camilla drawing that goes with it that I'll post tomorrow!

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't FE15 state that although god's control is removed, there's still evil in mankind's heart that must be vanquished or something along those lines? It kinda makes the whole "humanity f*ck yeah" shtick feel hypocritical doesn't it?

Because FE15 couldn't nuke FE2 from its DNA, by virtue of being a remake.

So we have two, contradictory messages in this game : Duma BaD and Gods BaD and must go because BaD and they "make humans do BaD things"...

and you have the "gods might be bad, but humans are still BaD without their influence" message at the end - when the entire game (and the timeline and supplementary materials!!) has been pushing the first message.

So...

In a sea of "Gods BaD" waters coming from the remake, you still have the lone "evil remains in the hearts of men" raft that is, somehow, pushed to the forefront in Part 6 where both Celica AND Alm call Thabes the result of human folly, and the player knowing that Grima - who was originally the RED CAPSLOCK eldritch monstruosity before FEH retcon'd them in a tits'n'ass character to uwu about by stealing Anankos' backstory - was "man-made".

And yet, given how the "last word" about FE15 - as in last material revealed - was the timeline in the Memorial Book, we close FE15's book by "and Duma was BaD".

I mean, look at all those mentions of Rudy being so brave and strong and uwusome -> Duma's degenaration is directly tied to how awesome Rudy needs to be in this calendar.

Rudy is so brave to stand in front of a degenerating Duma? -> Duma was insane!

Rudy is so thoughtful and sticks to his promise to Duma by sealing Mila -> akshually Duma wasn't completely insane because he told him to seal Mila and not to kill her even if I said the inverse 3 lines earlier...

How I'd Make FEH's Seasonal Banners Not Suck

Gacha is evil, it's bad, you shouldn't play it but as a girl with a big of a gambling addiction but see's no value in PNGs it's an outlet for me so I enjoy a few Gacha games for their fix, one of which being FEH. Seasonal banners are the worst banners of every month because their not sparkable without paying the monthly fee they want players to pay. Still imagining a better world where they had non premium spark I want to go over each months theme and if I'd keep it the same or if I'd replace the theme and with what.

January - New Years It's a solid banner theme of holiday banners it's one of two I'd keep. Most people use a calendar that means January is the start of a new year so a banner themed around celebrating it makes sense.

January 2 - Dessert

While the Dessert theme does have an eventual expiration date Fire Emblem does have a nice breath of Dessert cultures throughout the series that I do think is interesting to get a bit more insight into. Eventually this will have to pivot to some other type of cultural background but I do think there is smooth ways to transition into cultures although perhaps they will intersect with the Culture/Tribal banners that happen later in the year. If they really ran out of special cultures I do think they could pivot this to even go modern and explore real world cultures that inspired the characters for more modern designs which could be a fun and exciting ways to engage players.

February - Vday While I enjoy the dead dads theme of The Day Of Devotion banner being little families connecting I do think with FEHs dual heroes that we could do an actually romantic set of banners where it has ships on dates in cute outfits with an all dual hero banner. I think this theme could or could not be game locked but I think the most fun thing is to have a thematic tie between the ships and have it not be game locked so instead be like tragic love, Eternal Love, Childhood Friends To Lovers Rivals To Lovers kinda deals where it explores a different set of dynamics and how they manifested in the series. I'd start with a Childhood Friends To Lovers theme with Alm and Celica, Florina and Lyn, Dimitri and Dedude something like that to have a nice well flavored banner.

March - Replace Easter with Beast AU

This is probably my biggest want for Fire Emblem Heroes, the Easter Theme is not good. What could be amazing though and fix one of FEHs biggest problems is a banner that makes units into Beast Units. FEH has to make a good chunk of it's OCs beasts just so it can put a new stream of beast units into the game and has to use fairly niche characters to fill seasonal rosters all to stay canon complient but I say fuck canon, it's fun to do an AU and it would let popular characters be reimagined. In particular they could easily debut this to a best selling banner of Three Houses AUs. Flying Beast Black Eagle Edelgard, Cavalier Beast Golden Deer Claude, Armor Beast Blue Lion Dimitri, and Infantry Beast Ashen Wolf Yuri. Bam, perfect, that's a top selling banner. You pair Yuri with M Byleth since he is the Ashen demon or Naliah for a canon wolf unit. You make the tempest trail unit Fbyleth as either like a literal Ashen Demon or a dragon.

April - Replace Kids with Futures

It will never set well with me on every single level the kids banner theme. I hate having the kids end up being stronger then the other versions of the character. I hate having kid designs in general cuz it feels weird to use babies to fight in these wars. It's a weird theme that should go. So instead I propose a much better theme of Futures where we see the characters older from their end cards in the game. This is a massive staple of Fire Emblem having characters have some nice little future and why can't we see this. The age range can vary seeing fresh faced adults of the younger characters like a Donel or a Amelia or like proper older versions of some of the more standard ages Fire Emblem lords as they enter their MILF/DILF eras. People would love to see a proper older version of characters they love, especially it could be cute for older titles where you maybe it could be like aged by the amount of years of the game and kinda a growing up with the character kinda deal. Or it could just be a thirsty Mommy Sorry kinda vibe, either way works for me.

May - Replace Brides With cooking banner

Getting ready for the summer rather then a creepy bridal theme we could have a cook out, since Fates cooking has been a staple of Fire Emblem. I think themes like Tea Time could also move to this slot but each year could have a different kind of cooking vibe from like a summer cook out to a master chief vibe to like a cozy married life cooking banner with each capturing a new vibe while not being just the same boring white dress on woman theme.

June - Keep Summer 1

It's fine, I don't care for the fan service but people enjoy it, keep one month of summer banners, it clearly makes money, someone gets excited about it, a lot of people do but it could also be they bring out a lot of fan favorite units and strong pairings.

July - Replace Summer 2

I will give FEH one month of swim suits but one month is all I will give. Swim suits are not inspired, they aren't particularly interesting and we don't need two months of it. The theme that could replace it I think is space for something really fun like a cosplay theme with other Nintendo characters or a modern fashion theme that could be summery but not like just a swim suit. Something out there and exciting and can be a real talking point of the year. Personally I am found of the cosplay/crossover slot existing here.

August - Make Explicitly A Rare Class Theme

This slot might seem random but to me the clear pattern is it's about highlighting a rare class in the series be in rare as if you get 1 per game or rare as in was only in a few games. We have plenty of Fates Birthrights classes but even outside of that we have classes like Summoner that have only ever appeared once or Bandit that have only been playable once that could be a ton of fun to see characters dressed up as and could lead to really fun designs.

September - Keep Culture

The culture/tribal banners that show up in September are fantastic, actually using the lore of Fire Emblem. We have tons of cultures to go through that have shown up in the Fire Emblem series with countries like Sacae, Almyra, Brigid, all briming with a ton of fun potential to bring into banners and have popular characters be there to carry the flag for their country while other characters dive deep into the cultures.

October - Keep Halloween

Halloween is fun, it's fun, it never is samey because Halloween is what you make it, they could mix it up and have FE characters cosplaying Nintendo characters even if they start deciding they wanted to move off spooky stuff but honestly the spooky stuff is all cheesy fun and the banners are not creepy at all so I think they are just good fun.

November - Widen Ninja to be other Japanese inspired classes

I love Ninja Banners, who doesn't they just have good units from popular games and good designs but I do think expanding Ninja to include Samurai and other Hosido classes could widen the general appeal of the units and help them not stagnate but also I like Ninjas so like I feel like it should expand but not as strongly as the others I wanted to change.

December - Replace Xmas With Snowy Cultures

I am Christmas's greatest hater so of course I want this to change but I also think it's just so boring as a theme everyone wearing the same kind of outfit and colors every single year it just isn't fun and I would much rather see an expansion to the worlds cultures like with other cultural banners and a shift to Snowy cultures like Flora's home culture and Florinas.

I just now realised that the Feh calendar says that we're getting a legendary hero this month, despite getting one last month (Aka Legendary Robin)

Though it does make sense. We very randomly got 2 Mythic units back in January after all (Gotoh and Formortiis who we should be getting a free version of soon? Seeing as he won this year's AHR)

I'm both curious to see who this month's Legendary'll be... but seeing as we're about 2 weeks away from the baby banner and sometime afterwards the fallen banner (which just so happens to be my favourite banner), I'm really hoping it's not a character I'd want.

At the same time I have a bit of bad luck in accidentally predicting where characters I want appear in a future banner. So for all I know this month's legendary could be Male Corrin, Soren, or Male Shez. Like those are the only characters that'll make me summon on this month's legendary banner, I have zero interest in anyone else.

FEH calendar stuff

The upcoming Seasonal banner is going to be a Young Heroes one, so - even if it's Fates-themed - it won't have Soleil sadly.

So Emblem characters are treated like Legendary and Mythic Heroes, eh? That gave me an idea for the effect each Emblem would grant when Engaged (one of them is a spoiler):

Celica - Harkin warp effect, extended to within 2 spaces of target for the sake of ranged units. References Warp Ragnarok. The full description would be "For each foe within 4 spaces of unit, unit can move to any of the nearest spaces within 2 spaces that foe (unless space is impassable terrain)."

Sigurd - Movement+1. I was thinking this would be practically guaranteed and I would be very surprised if it didn't end up being the effect that he gets, but then I realised that Canto is a possibility as well. Movement+1 is more consistent with his FEH versions though.

Leif - Damage reduction if Special is ready. References Adaptable. Not sure what level of damage reduction yet. Could also add some sort of damage boost and make it akin to Godlike Reflexes. Could also just be a Vantage effect instead.

Roy - Divine Vein: Flame in 3x2 area after initiating combat. Literally just Blazing Lion's after-combat effect.

Lyn - Damage at start of combat = number of empty adjacent spaces x4. References Call Doubles's combat effect without actually summoning them. Instead, the effect being based on the number of empty adjacent spaces references how many clones get made when using Call Doubles.

Eirika - Potent Follow-Up 50% when Special triggers. References how Twin Strike is 2 hits.

Ike - Heal 30% or 50% of Max HP when Special triggers. Relatively straightforward. Not sure whether it should be 30% or 50% yet since I'm not too sure on the relative power level these Engage effects are going to have.

Micaiah - Rally/Heal Assist effect is applied to all allies. If I have to stick to existing effects, Celine/Hortensia healing effect. The first potential effect references Staves gaining a "splash" effect when Engaged with her, while still having a use for non-Staff units. The second potential effect makes sense flavour-wise.

Lucina - Damage at start of combat = number of allies within 2 spaces x4, max 12. Is practically All For One's effect if directly translated to FEH.

Corrin - Foe Penalty Doubler effect. I considered Gravity + Seal All on target, then Gravity on target and adjacent foes before settling on this. It references Gloom Breath's effect while still fitting flavour-wise with her Emblem self's status-inflicting effects.

Byleth - Special cooldown count-1 to unit at start of combat. I considered Requiem Dance's effect to reference Goddess Dance but decided it wasn't that good, so went with this effect that sort of references Divine Pulse.

Alear - Damage-reduction piercing when Special triggers. To be honest, I originally had the Potent Follow-Up 50% effect on them but I'd forgotten to add Eirika while writing this and felt that effect made more sense for her. The DR piercing effect just references how powerful Dragon Blast / Bond Blast are I suppose. DLC:

Tiki - +4 to all stats. Just references the stat boosts she gives upon transforming, and Starsphere to an extent. Could also grant Def/Res boosts to allies to reference Geosphere and her Legendary version's C Skill.

Hector - Guaranteed Follow-up + Follow-up denial. Just Storm's Eye's effect.

Soren - [Hexblade] to allies within 2 spaces. I considered stat drops to reference Anima Focus but I figured this would be more powerful while still making sense flavour-wise.

Chrom/Robin - [Rally Spectrum] to allies within 2 spaces. Was originally Hexblade for the user but I changed it when I decided for Soren to grant it to allies. Given how powerful Rally Spectrum is I opted for the user to not get the effect.

Camilla - All-movement-type Aerobatics. A way to reference the movement boost she gives alongside adding Flier movement to units. Could also be Movement+1 if Sigurd gives Canto.

3H Leaders - Close/Distant Counter. I was struggling to think of anything but figured this kind of works given how Edelgard and Dimitri have 1-range weapons and Claude has 2-ranged.

Veronica - 3 row/column Drive All+4. She's very support-oriented in Engage so this references this. Obviously I couldn't have Summon Hero as an option. Contract's possible though, but they'd need to make a new status effect that doesn't allow the targeted unit to move any spaces AND have it be immune to Restore and the like.

Random opinion time, but I think if you’re going to make a calendar for a franchise, you have to include new art. I just came across an feh calendar at the mall and was tempted to buy, until I realized that I have seen all of the art before. I saw the same thing for a loz poster. All of it was art that had been released years ago.

Summary of March:

Bouncing between focus and being completely scattered. Mental health very poor. Managed to take some time to play games without feeling guilty about it, which was good. No scenes again because I still always think of either these big elaborate ideas that are a day+ of actual work (and so don't get done) or just 'sketch of character doing nothing so I can try to get their likeness'. Really need to find out how I can add perspective backgrounds to portraits or something lol

Still reducing workload until I get onto something I can actually complete in a month.

USE PHOTO REFERENCE FOR EXPRESSIONS and try more open mouths ✗ no expressions this month. fuck, do more hair studies ✗, use photo reference to figure out stylised ¾ eyes ✓ still haven't figured it out though, push unhorizontalness ✓, try to unstiffen poses before doing lineart (separate pass)✗ but this did improve from the unhorizontalness thing

guy: eyes too sunken in OR far side of face/chin sticks out too much, folds on shoulder don't take into account that there actually is a shoulder there, arm is completely straight, pose is pushed a bit too much but I actually don't mind that

m/ichalis: lines REALLY messy (due to rushing to finish for a self-imposed deadline), eyes too flat/centreline of nose doesn't stick out enough, flat jaw area (mouth doesn't imply any curvature to mandible area), ears on rabbit aren't oriented correctly (v hard angle though), collar thickness is different on either side, hair doesn't follow contours of head at side (common problem), pose doesn't make any sense but was the only way I could think of to get the rabbit into frame so I guess I can let it slide, temple area shaded way more 3D than the rest of the face and looks weird

s/eth: nose/mid-face too long, drawing details like trims with lineart looks weird, hands not 3D, sword doesn't quite fit comfortably into hands (copied hand reference too faithfully), wasn't sure how to do top contours for thigh high boots because I didn't know exactly how the slightly raised leg worked or interacted with pelvis, also wasn't sure how to handle material on tunic moving with raised leg

a/yra: back chestplate thing too curved (looks like turtle shell), sword pose impractical, sword blade looks really thick and not sharp at all, tree in background too abstract - doesn't look like tree (holes in foliage make it look like a flat shape stuck onto the trunk), hair looks like it's stuck together, Small Other Eye Syndrome

a/rvis: TOO DARK, shading inconsistent with lightsource (looks like facing him but the background is a rimlight), not fully lineless or lined - lazy, shading on nose really bad because of the light coming from the direction it is, hair doesn't follow contour of shoulders/chest, do like how lost edges were executed though

v/alter: drew leg armour without really knowing how it would fit over the leg (couldn't figure out how to make the cutout not dig into the thigh) and so had no idea how to shade it either, shapes on knee guard inconsistent between sides, silhouette very static/horizontal, arm at his side looks really awkward (I did intentionally want it by his side and not in a more dynamic pose but it looks like he's pushing it down), glow isn't glowy enough, colouring messy (I did clean up the lineart though which is a good step forward)

ACTIONABLES: USE PHOTO REFERENCE FOR EXPRESSIONS and try more open mouths, do more hair studies, use photo reference to figure out stylised ¾ eyes AND NOSE, push unhorizontalness, see how other (FEH) artists handle trims

5MIN SCARED IDEAS: find good hair examples and trace, find ¾ photos and trace eyes/nose, trace torsos for gesture, review/learn leg muscles, trace thigh high boot opening contours from actual photos

The first FEH calendar of 2022 is finally here

Like it's been happening lately, the calendar is coming out as soon as it's 11th in each month (GMT-3), and here's our new one:

About: banners

This is the first thing I care about like always, potential banners in which to pull, but outside the {Legendary Hero Remix} and the mysterious seasonals and Legendary Hero, I don't find much of interest to pull on, so I'll summon for Legendary Lucina soon as her rerun is live... speaking of which, just two more days!! Pretty much psyched to pull for best Awakening girl. 💙🦋

This time, I'll record my summoning session in my PC since my phone might not have enough storage for a lengthy summon marathon, whereas my PC does. I know waiting for the night of 15th for the seasonal units' trailer would be ideal, but Lucina is only missing 4 merges and I have 610 [Orbs] as of this post, and, as someone that really appreciates her, I've been looking forward to a chance to finish merging her since months.

Also, we're having yet another [Heroes with Push] banner, is I.S. pushing these onto us? 🤨

And the rest of the stuff

Damn, the anniversary is coming in about three weeks? Time flies.

I guess it's related to the sus gap we've got in the calendar, there might be something grand in store since we're talking about the fifth anniversary since the game launched back in 2017, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I found an interesting thing in Twitter but Legendary Male Byleth isn't returning in those banners until April this year... still, I.S. sure messed up here.

Anyway, I first thought that [Summoner Duels R] was essentially the same thing, something that was quite wrong in one of my previous post, because it's a separate event yet still mostly the same as the vanilla game mode, but seasonal as it last 4 days (explained here), I'm not really thrilled by it but I'll try to get the rewards because I need them.

[Tap Battle] returns also (details on the theme here)... this game mode is unfortunately not so rewarding, but it's at least something different from your usual maps, so it's not too shabby, but I.S. literally mostly forgot about these and is just rerunning old ones from time to time... I'd still like to see some revamp in these.

So... this month...

It's going to be pretty tame for me, only thrilled for Legendary Lucina's rerun (out of everything announced for January) then that's it, and unless any of the new seasonals is interesting, I'll head back to saving [Orbs] after said summoning, but we'll see.

Outlining banners to wait for, since now its hoarding time and hoarding means kinda boring and so i gotta stay strong and remind myself of awesome banners and why hoarding and not get caught up in hype:

as your favs will likely be on the legendary banners soon, 

(highly unlikely they will go from alm to mila to celica in a row.) Micaiah and Femui have good chances of appearing in the june Legendary hero banner

Then there is the wild cards of new heroes banners, in june-july, sure you may only get one, but the legendary heroes are hard to get so watch out.

Ashera is ehhh priority, you like her, but depending on what happens or when she returns, you can wait.

August Legendary hero is also watch out for!!! IF CELICA IS THE JUNE ONE, THEN MICAIAH OR FEMUI ARE LIKELY THIS ONE

Dont waste orbs now, as your favs will likely be on the legendary banners soon, highly unlikely they will go from alm to mila to celica in a row. Micaiah and Femui have good chances of appearing. Then there is the wild cards of new heroes banners, in june-july, sure you may only get one, but the legendary heroes are hard to get so watch out.

Ashera is ehhh priority, you like her, but depending on what happens or when she returns, you can wait.
