Hello, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I love your art style so much, and the way you draw Ragatha!!!

Would it be okay if I asked you for advice on how to draw Ragatha's hair?

It's perfectly fine to ask me for advice, but just so you know, I'm not the best at explaining my art processes tbh. I've never done an art tutorial or anything similar to that.

However, I tried making a small guide here on how to draw Ragatha's hair - well, how I draw it at least. It's sort of a rough sketch, but hopefully it'll be useful for you!

First off, I'd like to point out that when I began drawing her character, I used one of her official 2D artworks as reference to draw her hair, not her 3D model!

To be more specific, I used this one:

Another important thing to take into consideration is THE VOLUME her hair has.

If you have curly hair and it's long enough, you might know that to make it have that sweet sweet volume, you gotta style it in LAYERS! The same applies to Ragatha here, which you can actually see in the image above! If you wanna make her hair look voluminous, you need to draw it in layers (Assuming you'll be drawing it similarly to how it looks in canon - like dreadlocks)

Anyways, now onto the process!

1st step - Bangs

When drawing her hair, I will always start by drawing her bangs first. It helps me sort out where the other locks will be going for the most part.

I will always start by drawing the 4 locks that go on top of her forehead. The two in the middle will always be shorter than the ones on the sides, but that's just my preference.

Once that's done, I do the longer locks that go down along the sides of her face.

2nd step - Locks on top + bow

Bow is not mandatory, but I must admit it does make my life easier when i'm drawing her, because then i'll always know where to put the two locks she's got on top of her head - that being right where the bow begins - behind it.

3rd step - Superficial layer!

Once you get the two higher locks and the bangs done, this step becomes way easier. You just gotta fill the gap between them.

I'll normally draw 3 on each side, but of course that will depend on the thickness of the dreadlocks you're drawing. It's overall pretty simple.

I like making these 3 locks more droopy than the other 2 coming from behind the bow, but that's also just my own preference.

4th step - Secondary layer

As you can see in the two examples in the center, the shorter locks on top will sort of flow in the same way as the 2 smaller bangs in her front. They go up, then down.

The longer ones that go behind her neck will just go straight down since they're longer and therefore heavier, just like the two long locks on each side of her face.

Clean up + fixing asymmetry

In the top left example, some of the bangs were asymmetrical, so I fixed that after cleaning up the sketch. Mistakes like these tend to be very noticeable once you clean things up, so try keeping each side as symmetrical as you can to one another, especially if you're drawing her front view.

Anyway, that's pretty much it for my process! I feel like I could've elaborated a bit more and made this more organized, but at the same time I kind of have no idea what to do lol sorry

4. Straight Ahead and Pose to Pose (Two Approaches to Animation)

These are two different methods of animating. Straight ahead involves creating each frame in sequence, while pose to pose focuses on defining key poses and then filling in the gaps. Both methods have their uses, depending on the desired effect.

5. Follow Through and Overlapping Action (Secondary Motion)

Objects and characters should continue moving slightly after their primary action has stopped (follow through) and some parts of the character may move at different rates or in different directions (overlapping action). This adds realism to motion.

6. slow in and out (Easing In and Out)

To make movements look more natural, objects should start and end their actions gradually, with acceleration and deceleration. This principle prevents abrupt and robotic motion.

7. Arcs (Natural Paths of Action)

Most natural movements follow an arcing path rather than straight lines. Animators should ensure that characters and objects move in arcs to mimic real-world physics.

8. Secondary Action (Supporting Actions)

Secondary actions complement the primary action and add depth to the character or scene. These actions can be facial expressions, gestures, or any other movement that enhances the animation.

9. Timing (Pacing and Rhythm)

Timing is crucial to establish the mood and rhythm of the animation. It determines how fast or slow actions occur and can evoke different emotions in the audience.

10. Exaggeration (Accentuating Reality)

Exaggeration is used to amplify the actions and emotions of characters, making them more expressive and engaging. However, it should be used judiciously to maintain believability.

11. Solid Drawing (Three-Dimensional Forms)

Animators must understand the principles of traditional drawing, including anatomy, perspective, and form, to create characters and objects that appear three-dimensional and solid in a 2D space.

12. Appeal (Attractiveness and Personality)

Appeal refers to the likability and charisma of characters. It involves designing characters with unique and interesting traits that draw the audience's attention and empathy.

1. What was the first part of your WIP that you created?

I think my co-writer and I first came up with the core cast of Alex, Reeve, Hannah, and Gareth. It all spiraled out of the control from there.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the intro song be?

3. Who are your favourite character(s) and why?

Gahhhh that's such a hard question!! I'll say Reeve because I'm a sucker for a character with a whole universe of shit going on underneath a controlled stoic surface. And while he fucks up sort of a lot, he's also clever as fuck and never stops trying to do the right thing.

4. What other pieces of media could share a fan base with your WIP?

This question is tougher than the first! I'll go with Witch Hunter Robin.

5. What has been your biggest struggle while writing your WIP?

Managing the puzzle of it all! Sunset is several different storylines and locations and casts that cross and intersect and run into each other over the course of a decade or so--all in the process of the story threads eventually converging at the climax. That's A LOT of timing to keep straight and a lot of pieces to make sure nothing gets left behind.

6. Are there any animals in your story?

Oh, just a sweet little hamster named Baguette! (Plus Chicklet the chicken and a couple of slobbery dogs in later volumes and of course our shifter characters, like Darwin and Sunny, who can change into an animal form.)

7. How do your characters get around?

Any and all modern transport ways--plus teleportation when there's a teleporter (and anti-nausea meds) handy.

8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Working on filling in the gaps of Volume Three!

9. What aspects of your WIP do you think will draw people in?

I'd be really interested to hear what readers have to say about this because I really don't know! If I had to guess I'd say they came the superpowered people--but stayed for the Baguette Updates.

so i just finished reading this beautiful beautiful byler fic on AO3 set between seasons 3 and 4 (it was written before we even knew much about season 4 so i was also pleasantly surprised when i saw how many things seemed to line up with what actually went down in volume 1)

it was... amazing. i don’t remember the last time i felt this way while reading it. the characterization of everyone done so perfectly, but most especially of mike wheeler. mike, who tries so hard to have everything be normal, to have his entire life crashing in on him in just one summer. it wasn’t that he suddenly hated d&d, or will, or anything else for that matter. he was just doing what people expected him to do as he grew older. seeing him come to terms with what and who he really is in this fic was just so heartwarming to read, and helps me fill in the s3-4 gap too, personally.

another character i also loved was robin buckley. that is how i imagined her after season 3 too. i know people want her to be closer to will but i feel like her guiding and mentoring mike just makes, i don’t know, the most perfect sense. her and mike having this sense of trust with each other without having to explicitly talk about what they really want to. robin working at the video store and just quietly taking mike under her wing, giving him the safe space and time to figure out what he is feeling without pushing him. nancy was great in the fic too, in that regard. she knows will is always going to be special to mike. but she is also aware of her family and how even suggesting that mike and will’s friendship is different to the other boys will make her father seethe. i feel like between the two, mike actually has some great elder sister figures.

ANYWAY LOOK AT ME RAMBLING MY GOD, i would have left a comment on AO3 but clearly i would have just spammed the author in the comments, as i’m still trying to reel from it (@sevensided hiiiii you have a fan in me!) thank you so much for writing a dream always the same - i’ve already read over a bridge of time too and have subscribed to the dark mirror series. thank you for understanding mike wheeler so beautifully and thank you for sharing your art with us too! sorry for this random message here but i hope you’re having a great day because you most definitely made mine with your work 💙

so o o o 2. A letter written by your OC's family member Here's one from Rhod's younger brother, Owen. Heirs aren't allowed to have favourites, but suffice it to say she and Owen had easy and natural compatibility. He was nine-ish and Rhodri would've been twelve.

The paper is bleached, high-quality Tevinter vellum, bearing a template header in red ink, reading in Tevene rune script, EX SCRIBIO CALLISTANI SPIRI (“From the desk of Spiro Callistanus”). At the top right of the page, the date 13 Justinian, 9:22 Era Drakonis is added in the same wobbly runic script in the rest of the letter. The language of writing is Tevene.

My birthday was good but sad without you, and thank you for my greenhouse. Mazarin and Evander aren’t allowed inside because they break everything now. Bethann sits with me in there sometimes but not for long. 

School is hard but Tata says it gets easier with time. When you come back we can go together. I think that would make it better. Mazarin and Evander are too loud and they don’t sit with me any more. Do you know any plant spells? Please write all of them down so I can learn them when my magic comes. And please tell me your favourite three plants. Mine are ivy, snake kiss, and butterleaf.

Author's notes:

Callistanus- ‘of’ House Callistus, the name given to non-heir family members. An heir is the house, the non-heirs are the members of said house. ‘Callistani is Callistanus in genitive (possessive- I know you know this; clarifying for other potential readers) case. Owen's Tevene name is Spiro, Spiri in genitive form.

The Callistanus/Amell kids did not cope well with Rhodri being taken to the Circle. Not least because they were an arm’s length away when the Kirkwall Templars were beating her to a pulp.  Mazarin and Evander, who already tended to be loud and demanding, became destructive and disruptive, and both of them developed explosive tempers that proved hard to pacify.  Bethann, the youngest and most sensitive sibling, suffered frequent meltdowns that required many years to identify causes for and address.  Owen, the middle child, was always quiet and courteous. The adults in his life, amid attending to his louder, needier siblings, frequently ‘checked in’ on him, and they would have used all the resources they had to attend to any need he might have, but if he said he was doing fine (he always did), they left it at that and assumed he was content to keep to himself. Rhodri had always made a point of keeping him by her side and giving him plenty of one-on-one attention even if he was ‘fine,’ and he soaked that up like a sponge. After she was taken away, though, and the other siblings proved to be very squeaky wheels, there was nobody to fill the gap in those childhood to early teen years. Owen ended up rather neglected, and horribly lonely, and hid it, even lied about it, to everyone but Rhodri for years. Consequently, Owen tends to have a low opinion of himself, and is disinclined to seek out something, however badly he might want it. He does a lot better once Rhodri's back, and certainly once his folks found out (to their unrestricted horror) how neglected he had felt, they did their darnedest to make it up to him as well. But Rhod's return was really what cemented that improvement.

I liked this question because I like the idea of there being a very specific, Chantry-determined format to a progress report, filled with formalities that ostensibly show some level of "civility" between the Templars and the mages. Plus, grading system? How do the mages measure success? So many questions!! Thank you for making me think of the answers!! -

The paper is bleached, blank vellum of middle to high quality, with the standard Circle progress report template already written in with black ink. Irving’s handwriting is a neat cursive that is no longer taught in the Circles. -

Following the discovery of lyrium affliction in early Verimensis 9:22, Rhodri Amell has completed three months of compensatory meditation and distraction management training. Spellpower has improved significantly, as has spell duration (Max. 4; 10s per HS); mana inefficiency has also decreased (less est. 2.5, now 5.5). Continuation of the program recommended indefinitely.

Despite her progress, Rhodri’s temper outbursts are increasing in frequency during lessons proper. I reiterate to the Knight-Commander my suspicion that these arise from the elemental damage and consequent pain in her hands from unsafe proximity to trained mana, particularly as her affliction prevents her from wearing the requisite enchanted safety gloves. As per my last reports, I strongly recommend that my apprentice be permitted to use a sylvan branch staff to prevent more of the same; responding to outbursts with punishment has proved manifestly unhelpful and I continue to urge its cessation to the Knight-Commander with the greatest emphasis.

I note that Rhodri continues to tutor beginner students in her free time. E. Rhod’s not one to praise bad behaviour in anyone, let alone a god who should know better, but by golly He did everyone a good turn when He made Zevran. Maybe age will bring other wisdom, but for now, she lets her love for Zevran be her tentative worship, because it’s the only praise she can offer in earnest. Though idk, what better compliment is there for a creator than someone wholeheartedly adoring their creation?  I like to think it’s enough for the time being. A religious journey isn’t always straightforward but I always found that complications bring their own insights.

I have no idea why Rhodri signs off her letters to Zevvo as ‘Severin (Rhodri).’ They agreed early on never to use the Tevene name to avoid the ridiculousness that comes with similar-sounding names (it gets especially bad when the siblings give him the Tevene-ised nickname Zēvē when they’re already calling Rhodri Sēvē. Agony!) Same deal with Owen signing off letters to her as “Owen your brother”. Must be hereditary.

sunny??? stressed or worried?? almost constantly. by season 3 she’s basically el’s mom, or at least very much a maternal figure to el in spite of the small age gap, and there is very much a failure on sunny’s part for being unable to protect el, or to stop these things happening to her, or to do them for her. in comparison with el and the other children at hawkins lab, she grew up with a relatively normal life, and once she realises the extent of that, the guilt swallows her whole. everything she does is influenced by that guilt, and while she does eventually understand that none of it was in her control and it wasn’t her fault, her existence is pretty much fueled by stress and worry and anxiety. steve and hopper in particular see it in her very very clearly, how she overcompensates for every little thing. steve knows how sunny looks when she smiles, really smiles, and he sees that less and less from the end of season 2 onwards. she still smiles, but it’s so forced, and there’s a little crease between her brows and it’s too tight and he knows it isn’t real. he knows. she also chews the skin around her fingernails - she’s always done that, but her fingers are almost always cracked and raw at the edges now. sunny doesn’t necessarily require reassurance or validation - she’ll operate just fine without both, she never really received either growing up - but fuck, when steve tells her she’s done something right?? when hopper acknowledges she’s doing a good job?? when el crawls into bed beside her at night and curls into her side and falls asleep without any nightmares because sunny is a safe place, sunny fills up in the places that were empty and hollow before, and she could burst with happiness.

14, CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’: What fills their daydreams?

OH HO HO NO bc i had a long ass conversation about this with a friend a few days ago,,, sunny’s daydreams are very much the same as steve’s, and i had that planned long before season 4 came out. slight spoilers for volume 2 ahead. sunny so badly wants a family. she wants domesticity, and safety. she is a very maternal character - you see it in scenes with el and the other younger kids from the lab, you see it when she starts interacting with the party in seasons 1 and 2, she’s fucking adaptable and has this innate need to take care of people. it’s not strictly that her childhood was bad - she had nothing to compare it to, really, and she wasn’t mistreated (well, she was but this is a realisation she comes to way later on) but she wasn’t... loved, either. her house wasn’t warm. brenner was her father, technically, but not a dad. she was lonely. her dream is this, essentially: to never feel lonely again. for sunny, that means a big family. it means laughter and happiness and love. whatever form that ends up coming in, she won’t really mind, but she dreams of never being lonely again.

28, BEND ME, SHAPE ME: What would they do for the people they love?

my good bitch, a more apt question would be what wouldn’t sunny do for the people she loves? answer: nothing. sunny goes toe-to-toe with everything that dares touch her family, and everyone is her family. she very often doesn’t get the opportunity, and that manifests in a lot of guilt (see above.) el is very capable of handling herself, and for the first two seasons, sunny’s powers don’t present in physical way, they’re mainly psychic-based, so she can’t actually protect the way el does (which really upsets sunny, because she wants to protect her loved ones, protect el like she protects sunny, and she can’t.) she does at one point fully throw herself in front of a demogorgon for steve and nancy with nothing but a hatchet, but sunny is honestly crazy. she has no real-world experience and therefore no real concept of danger (and a demogorgon is fucking dangerous). the short answer is that sunny would die for them. all of them. it honestly pisses steve, hopper and el off the most, because sunny seems to think she’s expendable in comparison?? (that’s not an active thought she has, it’s just instinct to her. she’s a mama bear.) she’s also just... readily available almost 24/7. dustin and lucas need to be picked up from the arcade?? she’s there. max wants ice-cream? done. she can’t say no to these kids (they don’t take advantage of her though bc more often than not, if steve thinks they’re going that way, he has a very stern talk with them about it. sunny finds it very endearing because she’s not stupid, she just has this pathological need to be useful and do things for people.)

No. 1 Danzo Shimura

Need me to say anything more other than that there's absolutely no Danzo rpers around anymore and how I know sooooo many people would just LOVE to have one to rp the angst and the drama with. But I never really have the confidence to rp such a complicated character and the rather HUGE expectations and high amounts of time and research of rping them well. I also would LOVE to explore the whole ROOT activities and the rp scenarios too.

No. 2 Kisame Hoshigaki

Kisame has always been a favorite character of mine and their personality and deep backstory is so amazingly well done that I once wanted to rp the character and add in all of the hilarious dark humour jokes and his casual friendliness towards his enemies. But again, it's my lack of confidence of rping them right, and I'm more worried about rping him ship wise since I really have no idea what he would be into and tbh I still personally see the kisaita ship as one of friendly kind.

3. Orochimaru

Ah Orochimaru. Such a fandom menace that just the mention of their name would evoke several reactions in all kinds of people and the type of reactions speak volumes on the people who like/dislike them! I have been thinking of rping them as a way to help me cope with being hurt by an Orochimaru at some point in my life and for me to become said character in my own version would perhaps help me cope with that. But one major issue is that I will have to admit that being aware of Orochimaru's non-binary status, I often make several if not too many mistakes of mispronouncing or forgetting to add the pronouns and despite that I have improved and am getting used to saying They/them, I do however make mistakes every now and then. (right now, I'm literally having to reread this entire section to avoid saying "he/him" to avoid upsetting anyone. O_o) Another thing is that since I'm a straight woman with she/her pronouns, I'm not sure... if I would be able to fully understand Orochimaru's character well enough to rp them correctly. And I'm also one of the very few who is not down with calling Orochimaru a "queen" when they're really just... "parent" and an awesome scientist. But hey, they're doing an amazing job being an impressive single parent too!

On the other hand, I would LOVE to understand and roleplay out their way of thinking and the madness behind their choices and to explore their god plex would be so fun to do! And of course the parenting of Mitsuki would be fun too! ;_;

It is predicted that non-FMM OLED will promote the development of the medium-sized OLED market for multi-variety small-volume production products.

FMM is currently used for vacuum evaporation of red (R), green (G), blue (B) and OLED sub-pixel components in small and medium-sized products such as smartphones.
