Despite her bravado, Korenna couldn't help but feel a twinge of apprehension as she approached the cruiser. Gorst had a point- something had to have destroyed all those other ships. She kept on her course, though- she wasn't about to turn back after all it took to get here.
Back at Hopkins Station, Gorst was reading through the data from Korenna's ship uplink. "These readings..." he said, half to himself. "This doesn't make any sense. Ganymede's been derelict for decades, but the energy profile it's givng off is almost like..."
A flashing light on Korenna's dashboard caught her attention. "A target lock? From who?" She looked around, but couldn't see any new ships- but her eyes went wide when she realized the source. Ganymede itself, the plasma railgin on its front starting to glow with power.
Gorst's voice came over the speaker, "Korenna, MOVE!" but she was already slamming on the control stick, upper thrusters bursting to life as her ship dove, just in time as a lance of plasma shot forth from Ganymede, blazing through the spot she'd been moments before. She threw her ship into reverse and shot back towards the debris field as smaller cannons sprung to life, filling the area with laser fire. She wove between the bolts as best she could, but with the sheer volume of lasers, she wasn't going to last long. "Gorst, give me something!"
"Shit! Uh..." He frantically scanned through the data output. "There's a big cluster of wrecks at these coordinates," he said, sending her a telemetry. "Take cover there!"
"That plasma cannon's gonna punch right through! I know you've got that bet with Louis, but trying to get me killed is a bit much!"
"Trust me, I have a plan!"
She groaned, but headed for the cluster, firing her retrorockets to come to a stop. The wrecks absorbed the bulk of the laser fire, but her sensors picked up the plasma cannon recharging. "Now what?"
"The logo, on your dashboard- right before the cannon fires, press it and dive."
"What?"
"Just do it!"
"This better work or I'm haunting you." Korenna hovered one hand over the logo, keeping the other on her control stick while she watched the plasma cannon's readout. 70 percent charged. 80 percent. 90. Now!
The plasma cannon fired, obliterating the first wreck it struck and sending the rest scattering into space. Ganymede's sensors made a sweep of the area. Detecting no active ship signals, it reentered standby mode.
No active signals detected. Entering standby mode.
Just below the now-destroyed cluster, Korenna's heart pounted in her chest as she watched Ganymede's guns power down. After a few tense moments of quiet, she reached for the communicator. "Gorst, what the hell was that?"
"Prototype cloaking device. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise- we were gonna install the full version when you got back. So, uh." He shrugged. "Happy birthday."

*Leans around doorway*
Remember how I came in looking for help with angsty "William being the worst" thoughts? Heh... yeah I just wrote 800 words of Evan and Mike talking about it. Except this time it wasn't distressing for me so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ better headspace?
(Not sure why I'm even saying this here, but I guess it's a follow up?)
Well, venting through art is a thing iirc. Maybe writing what Mike and Evan would think helped you get your own thoughts out there?
My attempt at explaining aside, I’m glad that you’re in a better headspace! That’s great to hear! :D

Like, Wow! The Results (Study)
Followup post to "The History of Zoinks." Includes methods, results, discussion. Page break after the first section.
Methods
This exploratory study will examine how accurately the catchphrases in Scooby-Doo reflect the language of the time. Based on their historical usage, we hypothesize that “jinkies” will be the most commonly occurring phrase, followed by “jeepers,” then “zoinks.”
We sampled the first 25 episodes of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! These episodes aired from September 13, 1969, to October 31, 1970 and make up the first two seasons of the show. The third and final season would not air until 1978 and had different writers, so it was omitted. Qualitative analysis was conducted in NVivo from episode transcripts obtained online.
Results
The most used catchphrase was “zoinks,” at 87 occurrences across 25 episodes, averaging 3.48 “zoinks” per episode. Some episodes had no “zoinks”, with a notable 3-episode consecutive gap mid-season 1. Overall, “zoinks” usage trended positive; season 1 averaged 3.12 “zoinks” per episode while season 2 averaged 4.25. “Jeepers” was used once and there were no “jinkies”.
In context, Shaggy used “zoinks” as either an expression of shock on its own or paired with a frightful observation (e.g., “Zoinks! It’s the snow ghost!”). Once, in a witch’s hut, it was used as an adjective: “What zoinky labels… ear of a newt?” The first “jeepers” came from Velma, used more as surprise than fear: “Jeepers! Someone’s going into that old mansion” (season 1, episode 6, “What the Hex Going On?”).

Figure 1. Zoinks Frequency in "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?"
Discussion
Results not only contradicted the hypothesis, but all expectations founded by the literature. Despite their cultural relevance, we observed only one count of “jeepers” (not counting the season 2 episode 4 title, “Jeepers, It’s the Creeper”) and no “jinkies." The slow climb of “jeepers” may be attributed to the aforementioned “cultural time capsule” concept. It is an unwritten law of media that it must wait to capture popular culture until a few years too late. Usage of “jeepers” skyrocketed between DeBeck’s comic in 1928 and Donahue’s musical rendition in 1939, peaking in 1946 (Harper, “Etymology of jeepers”). However, despite Scooby-Doo’s monumental ratings, “jeepers” did not jump again until the movie Jeepers Creepers came out in 2001. Although “jinkies” did not appear in these two seasons, we know it would experience a great jump in The New Scooby-Doo Movies whenever Velma loses her glasses, growing to become her exclusive catchphrase in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo when she cooks up a clue. In the sampled episodes, Velma seemed to be struggling to find a catchphrase that stuck, floating between “gosh,” “golly,” and similar expressions. Why it took until three years into Scooby’s run for “jinkies” to first appear is uncertain, as both it and “zoinks” share similar histories as interjections of fright (and flight).  One potential explanation could be the face value of the characters on first airing. Shaggy boasted the voice of radio celebrity Casey Kasem. The writers seemed to enjoy letting him show off his odd audio skills, as in Shaggy’s “ventriloquism act” in the episode “What a Night for a Knight” and every variation of the “disguise as barbers to fool the monster into getting a haircut” scene that warranted a funny voice. Kasem was the first to say “zoinks” (and “zoink,” in one instance), but certainly not the last. In these first two seasons, Shaggy had a clear monopoly on catchphrases; the first “jeepers” even came from him.  The catchphrases in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? do not reflect the vernacular of the time. Rather, they reflect what pumps the lifeblood of Hanna-Barbera cartoons: money (i.e., ratings). To keep the audience hooked, the writers had to put out only the best voicework. Casey Kasem as Shaggy was a bridge between audiences of children enjoying funny voices and adults enjoying a familiar radio personality (and modern folks enjoying a 60’s caricature). He and Scooby embody the spirit of the franchise strongly enough that they have survived through every series that tried to cut out other members of the gang (Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo) or otherwise split them up (Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!). Despite “zoinks” having no direct predecessors in popular culture, Shaggy quickly spread it with his image as irreplaceable icons of the series across 250 episodes and 45 films. Like with Barney Google’s “heebie-jeebies” and Fred Flintstone’s “Yabba-dabba-doo,” it’s not about the linguistic sense of the catchphrase. It’s about the character who delivers it.
*Excluding Velma (2023) on HBO Max, which featured all of the gang but Scooby-Doo. Shaggy endures.

so i noticed a few ships on the Apex Ships Poll i posted a few days ago that you guys told me about, and mirage x bloodhound was the one brought up the most. im sorry lol i had no idea that was a thing. a few others that were fairly common were mirage x rev, mirage x gibby, bloodhound x rev, fuse x caustic (???), mirage x pathfinder, fuse x horizon, valk x rampart, octane x crypto, and rampart x lifeline. sorry i didnt include any of those...lmao i dumb
there were a few others i wanted to quickly address: rampart x catalyst??? idk abt that one, they just seem to be friends. and i dont see anything in the voicelines or lore to hint at anything. same with mirage x newcastle. and someone also mentioned ash x horizon. uhhh...im so confused, i thought they literally loathed each other. ik ik, seems hypocritical since i added seer x catalyst to the poll, but they arent exactly that pissed at each other, sooo...?
that was all, except i completely apologize for not including wattson x octane, i mustve forgot because i swore i added them 😭😭😭

thinking about this
unfortunately this post has been chased down by someone named lambdadelta communism. now i will create a small addendum.
i don’t really have a problem with the term USAmerican whatsoever— my problem actually stems from trying to separate people from the united states, central america, and south america. You are a westerner as much as we are. Oopsie daisies.
It seems that reading is a challenge, but not for me!
(Did you know most communists on this site are American?)

Project Cyber
There was a reason for the earlier noise. Stellar Spirit was testing a new model of her latest passion project. It was fitted with a V12, rather than the V10 of the previous (and first) model. It had much larger boost pods, as well. Rather than 1,200 from before, it was now pushing about 1,350 horsepower, and could reach just over 600 kilometers-per-hour with the boost engaged. Like before, she did have to cheat reality to keep the damn thing faithful to the source material, but not as much as she had previously, meaning it was more metaphysically stable.
The machine functioned almost flawlessly now. Perhaps with a bit more tuning, it'd be ready for the next race. Now, she just needed a backup AI to take the place of Spark in case of her absence... One that wouldn't require her to rely on someone else to have it function correctly...
Should she do it? Should she recreate the original cyber system from the source material? Or should she try something entirely new? That was... a difficult question. It was most certainly tempting, but... she wasn't sure she could nail it first try, and she preferred to get things right the first time.
... Then, it hit her. She'll do both. She'll base the backup system on the source material, but take a few design liberties to keep it interesting, and to prevent it from just being a direct copy. Proooobably gonna keep the original voice, though.

(part 1)
Gary slipped into the drivers' seat of his car next to Paula, who was inputting an address into his navigation system. "Okay, what's the rundown?"
Paula finished putting in the address, and the GPS calculated a route- almost 3 hours long. Gary pulled out of his driveway and headed toward the freeway.
"Okay," Paula said, leaning back in the passenger seat. "Basic stuff out of the way. I don't know how this thing started and have no idea how to stop it. I always wake up at 7:43, and the loop resets at midnight or if I die."
Gary glanced at her, aghast, as he rolled to a halt at a stop sign. "Wait, you've died?"
"Yup. Speaking of which, wait here for a moment." They sat at the stop sign for a moment, another car pulling in behind and blaring its horn, when suddenly a semi truck careened around the blind corner and through the intersection, belching smoke and fire from its engine. It continued down the road, veering from lane to lane, before drifting off the road about fifty meters away and crashing into a wall.
Gary stared at the wreckage, mouth agape, while Paula just nodded. "Yep. That's got us a couple times. Hurts like hell, too."
"Oh god," Gary whispered. "Should we call someone?"
"Nah, they're fine. This dude behind us already called 911, ambulance will be here soon. Coast's clear, we gotta get moving." Gary sat for another moment, but after another nudge from Paula, slowly pulled away and got back on track. "Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. As far I know, I'm the only one who remember the loops, nothing changes except what I change myself, and I stopped counting after the first hundred."
"Okay... I think I've got the picture," Gary said, nodding. "But why me? What do I have to do with this?"
"Cuz' I trust you, man. I know you've got my back, even if its something wild like this." She was quiet for a moment. "Also you're the only one of my friends with a full tank of gas in their car today."

Thank you for explaining the Grell thing for me! I’m just an old fan who was out of the loop, haha. Don’t feel the need to publish this ask, I saw the other anon and you mention that the topic is annoying at this point.
Well, it's just that I and others have received anon asks about this that were intended to cause drama. It looks to me, though, that you were genuinely wondering what had happened in the fandom regarding Grelle's gender.
Considering this, I don't mind posting a reply, and I hope readers realize you meant no harm, so maybe they won't be so upset/annoyed anymore by your previous ask, if it bothered them.
