"I Am Sam" Interview with Jared Padalecki (June 2012)
The following are snippets from the I Am Sam Interview with Jared Padalecki in the Supernatural Magazine published in June 2012.[x][x]
"When asked exactly how badass Sam Winchester is in season seven of Supernatural, Padalecki replies, "Well, you’re familiar with the International Standardized Bad-Ass Test? No? You go from bad-ass-ness to bad-ass-dom.” He gets all that out with a straight face, then adds. "In all seriousness. I think Sam this year is trying to keep his wheels aligned with the road, so he’s not in charge of his own faculties enough to really be as badass focused as he was [when he was soulless] when I had a lot of fun. I like doing the badass bit.”
"At a party following the session, Padalecki is less silly and more sincerely excited when the topic shifts to his impending fatherhood - he and wife Genevieve Padalecki (who, of course, played Ruby on Supernatural) are expecting their first child, a little boy in March. Does Padalecki expect he’ll be a badass dad? "If badass means doing the right thing, I hope to be,” Padalecki says, "because my dad and my father figures and my brother growing up were good guys, so I hope I do the same.”
As for sending up his real, actor self in last season's The French Mistake, Padalecki at first feigns astonishment. That was as real as it could be!" Then he laughs. "I'm kidding. That was a lot of fun. As actors, we're glorified so much. We get to glorify ourselves so much and build ourselves up and put ourselves on pedestals that it was nice to go. ‘You know what? We’re actors. We wear make-up and talk to a camera and we’re telling stories.’"
Tumblr media
"Speaking of Bobby, how does Padalecki feel about that character’s death? “I felt very sad. I watched [scenes from the episode Death s Door] as a fan because I wasn’t in it a whole lot. There was a lot of Jim Beaver and Steven Williams - it was all about Bobby and Rufus. Jim and I watched it in his trailer while filming. We were both in tears. I thought Jim Beaver did such an astounding job. And we have a famous saying around Supernatural, that the only way to make sure you’re coming back on the show is to die. So that having been said, I don’t think it’s the last we'll see of Jim Beaver."
"Has Padalecki been enjoying this phase of Sam's personality, or has he been looking forward to Sam freaking out again? "It’s been a lot of fun to be the calm, kind of collected guy," Padalecki says, “and Sam’s been calm because he’s had no choice. He’s been too busy trying to take care of his own mental issues to really go crazy. Sam’s grown up over seven years, so it’s nice that you can see that. We will see Sam start to break apart once again; he’s been trying to hold onto his marbles for the whole of the season, and now we start to see him stop being able to juggle all the balls he was trying to juggle at once."
Tumblr media
"Now in his seventh year of playing Sam Winchester, does Padalecki feel the same about playing him today as he did when he started? "I have a family of my own coming now - I mean. Gen’s pregnant - but this show has become a family of sorts. And so part of me says, Well. I’m going to be a dad.’ Another part of me says. ‘Well. I’ve grown up with these guys, these directors, these writers, these cameramen, the grips, the cast, and so I feel so comfortable around them that I wouldn't mind doing the show for a long, long time.’"
Tumblr media
"This is season seven of Supernatural. I did Gilmore Girls for five years before this, so I've been working for 12 years. I feel like I've learned a lot, I've grown a lot. I did my first episode of Gilmore Girls when I was 17. I’ll be 30 this summer, so I'm growing up. my career is on a good path. I'm ready for a new horizon. It’s not like I wanted to have a child for the challenge, but I welcome the challenge. I welcome the new road. I'm not expecting it to be easy, I know it won’t, but I’m excited to (experience parenthood) with my wife and best friend."
"Is there anything that Padalecki would like to do on Supernatural that hasn't happened yet? "No. I've got to say, the wonderful thing is, probably in season one. I did everything I wanted to do and then they created more things that I didn’t even know I wanted to do in seasons two, three, four, five, six and seven, and so they’re teaching me and training me that there are a lot more things out there than I maybe anticipated. It’s very exciting."

benmitchellweek day 3 - “So none of it was real? You didn’t mean any of it?”  (ao3 link)
.
“So none of it was real? You didn’t mean any of it?”
“Course not. I only said it to push you away, to protect you. I, I love you. With every fibre of my being.”
“Cut!”
Ben lets his hand fall away from Callum’s face, letting out a long sigh. It’s the sixth take they’re on and even he can tell that the scene is bad. And for once, he has to admit that it’s not just down to the ridiculously cheesy script but to him and his co-star.
Ben wasn’t averse to his new love interest being a man; he’s always played his character as very open-minded anyway and it’s definitely paying off in terms of promotion. The general public and the fans online are ecstatic about the representation and it’s proving to be a huge factor in drawing in audiences for the third and last part of the trilogy he’s starring in.
He’s loath to admit though, that a lot of that draw comes from the casting announcement of one Callum Highway.
Callum Highway, who apparently has quite some experience as a theatre actor and has built up a decent-sized following from being on some TV show - that’s according to Ben’s agent at least. Callum Highway, who’s supposed to play his love interest now. Only, the chemistry between them just isn’t there. Or rather, there is chemistry, it just really isn’t a romantic one.
It’s quite the opposite in fact.
Things had been fine at the screen test; they had gotten along great and there had been this unspoken draw between them. Their director Matt had been ecstatic and had casted Callum almost on the spot. But ever since they started filming things have taken a turn for the worse; they’re snapping at each other constantly, making snide remarks and only pretending to like each other for the press outings.
It’s even worse that Ben feels like absolute shit whenever he gives Callum a rude response and sees the flash of hurt in his eyes. He doesn’t even know how or why it started but the fact that he feels so bad about it all and has to think about it, and him, constantly just adds to his frustration.
Their director stands up from his chair behind the screens, ripping off his headset and rubbing his hands over his eyes.
“Alright, that’s it for the day. We’ll try this scene again tomorrow. You two better use tonight to practice. I want that scene perfect tomorrow and I want to actually feel like you two are madly in love with each other. Understand?”
They both murmur an affirmative, not brave enough to look their director in the eyes but instead glaring daggers at each other.
-----
It’s how they find themselves in Callum’s trailer later that night, going through the script again and again, trying and failing to get this scene right.
“You could at least try to make it seem like your character wants to be there with mine, you know.”
Callum throws his copy of the script on the little table beside them, running his hands over his face in frustration. It’s not working out any better than it did this afternoon; they’re still wooden and lacking any believable chemistry, and it’s setting both of their nerves on edge. They only have a couple of hours to get it right and Ben really doesn’t want to be the reason this movie is getting delayed.
“I can only work with what I’m given, alright.”
When Ben looks up from his own script, he sees Callum’s mouth dropping open, eyebrows knitting together. It was the wrong thing to say - again - that much is clear from the way Callum’s face morphs into anger, and Ben regrets it immediately. Him and his big mouth and penchant for lashing out at everyone around him.
“God, you’re so fucking full off yourself, aren’t you. You know, I was proper excited about working with you because you always seem so funny and charming in your interviews but it’s all just acting, isn’t it. You’re really just jealous and insecure.”
It’s the first time Callum has ever raised his voice or been outright rude to him and to be honest, Ben doesn’t like this. They hit a little too close to home; his words. His first instinct is to fight back, spit back words full of venom at Callum as well, but he can’t. He doesn’t want to. He doesn’t want to hurt Callum; he never did.
It seems like Callum was also expecting him to give a retort back, because when Ben simply falls silent and looks at the ground, he immediately steps forward to apologize. Ben thinks he really is something else because he definitely deserved Callum going off on him and him saying sorry now just confirms that he’s a much better person than Ben could ever be.
“Ben, I’m so sorry.”
Ben tries to clear his throat and go back to business, but for some reason there’s a lump in his windpipe he can’t seem to swallow back down.
“Let’s just do the scene.”
“Hang on. I feel bad ab-”
“Let’s just do the damn scene, Callum, yeah. Let’s get this over with so we can finish this stupid movie.”
He’s getting louder now, his voice sounding more desperate than he intended to. This doesn’t happen to him, he doesn’t lose his cool over a guy, his co-star, who’s probably not even into guys. But his heart keeps screaming at him to reach out and touch Callum, to just fall into his arms and not care about the rest of the world.
But it’s not that easy. Callum just made it clear what he thinks of Ben and that he messed everything up beyond the point of fixing. And Ben does what he’s always done, what he’s come to know since he was a child, he pushes people away before they can detect any vulnerability and use it to their advantage. It doesn’t matter that Callum doesn’t seem like the type of guy to do that, his self-preservation is screaming at him to do it.
“Is it really that much of a chore for you to play with me? What did I ever do to you, Ben?”
It’s what breaks the dam. What makes everything Ben’s tried so hard to keep hidden and locked away since they’ve begun filming bubble over and break out of him.
“You know what? It is! It is a chore to see your stupid, pretty face every day, to hear your voice everywhere I go, to not get you out of my damn head. You’re always there, Callum, and I hate it. And even when you’re not there, I can’t stop thinking about you. So let’s just finish this movie so I can get over you.”
He regrets saying anything the second the words leave his mouth, watching Callum’s mouth drop open in astonishment. There’s complete silence between them, the eerie quiet of the otherwise abandoned movie set providing no background distraction, and all Ben can do is wait it out and deal with the fallout. The only silver lining is that the movie is almost done, so if Callum is about to reject him and throw him out of his trailer he at least only has a few more days and some press events to get through before he can start to repress this whole situation.
He doesn’t get thrown out. What ultimately happens is something entirely different. Callum moves forward, face hard and determined, both of his hands coming up to take Ben’s face securely in them, tilting his head up. Ben is trying to keep up with the situation but all of a sudden there are soft lips pressing against his - Callum’s lips.
No camera or crew or script to be found.
Ben’s kissing back instinctively, threading his fingers into the soft material of Callum’s hoodie. There are some desperate noises escaping his throat without his say but Callum answers one of them with a groan on his own so Ben feels less bad about them, slipping his tongue into Callum’s welcoming mouth.
When they eventually part again, their foreheads stay close against each other, small smiles on both of their faces.
“I wasn’t sure you liked men.”, Ben confesses quietly, trying to justify why he’s let this simmer until it eventually spewed out of him.
“I immediately said yes to this project. Because of you. I just wanted to get to know you.”
“We’re idiots, aren’t we. At least I am. I’m sorry.”
Callum seals their lips back together, one hand curling into Ben’s hair and the other running down his chest until it finds Ben’s, tangling their fingers together.
“Guess we don’t have to worry about chemistry anymore.”

J/B Exchange Recs Round 1!
I have not been around Tumblr much lately because I was so preoccupied with stuff for @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things, and I figured what better place to start than with some recs?
These are currently skewed a bit toward my amaaaazing gift fic and the amaaaaazing ones I beta-ed, since I am way behind on my reading, but there will be more to come!
Backpfeifengesicht by @samirant - I am so unbelievably grateful that I had both amazing prompts/amazing recipient for the fic I wrote, and such a fabulous gift fic too. I was still working on my own fic and very sleep-deprived and flagging when I read this for the first time and I think I may have actually left my body on a wave of sheer euphoria. IT IS ALL THE GOOD THINGS. So many of my favorite vacation/road trip tropes--drunken shenanigans! Intimate late-night conversations while everyone else is sleeping/elsewhere! Friends being too involved in your relationship! Unexpected forced proximity! And the banter is glorious, and the secondary characters are so well thought out and add such depth and vibrance to the story, and the Sansa/Margaery subplot was DELIGHTFUL, and I love the way this structured Brienne's relationship to Tyrion and then to Jaime as an extension of that, and the resolution was handled with an absolutely perfect balance of hilarity and heat. (There was also the stuff throughout that was very targeted to me specifically WHICH I APPRECIATED, so thanks to both Sami and @forbiddenfantasies1 for that). About 20% of the way into the story, I was deeply convinced it was Sami, and in the best possible way--it had the hallmarks I love about her writing: her sense of humor, her gift for banter, her clear affection for the characters, the richness of all the relationships. It was like showing up to a party and unexpectedly finding a friend there, and it was the loveliest feeling. I am thrilled that so many people have read and loved this story but I want everyone in the world to read and love it, so. Please check it out if you haven't! And also check out Sami's hilarious tale of woe regarding her writing process, which is amazing. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR SUCH A PHENOMENAL GIFT SAMI.  ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀
A favorite line: On any other day, Brienne would have left him - a relative stranger - to his wallowing, but an untold amount of imbibed Pentoshi Slammers stirred up a noble benevolence within her, a little voice that said they had something in common and what good were her broad shoulders if they weren’t offered as a place to rest a weary, heartbroken brow? SO GOOD.

Lay Your Heartbreak and the sequel You could make me feel so good by @ajoblotofjunk / sdwolfpup - LISTEN. SDW sent me an early chunk of this and I was immediately OBSESSED and I have not stopped being obsessed since. Obviously worldbuilding is a huge strength of SDW's and her creativity with that is a constant astonishment to me. But pop culture is full of examples of people who can create amazing worlds and then utterly fail to populate them with interesting or dynamic characters, whereas SDW's ability to fill in those wonderfully creative spaces with her love for the characters and their love for each other that is just magic. And these fics are the perfect examples of that. The setup is not only fascinating but makes for such fantastically INTENSE feelings, omg, everything just feels like it's crackling off the page; even before Jaime and Brienne and Addam are admitting anything to each other, it's not so much simmering under the surface as boiling. The balance between the three of them is gorgeous, there are two incredibly hot fencing scenes as well as a very hot swimming scene (in addition to the sequel being just one big tangle of brain-scorching hotness), there's a perfect amount of sweetness and softness to play off all the blazing heat, and overall this is one that's going to stick with me for a long time. I know J/A/B isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you aren't actively opposed to the idea of them, then I highly highly encourage you to check this out.
A favorite line: That night she dreams of golden skin, hot and soft against her palm – yes, someone moans, yes – the rough scrape of callouses over the arch of her ribs, the scratch of red stubble between her thighs – like this? Yes, more, please more – legs sliding together and between each other, and two mouths touching her all over. Hnnnnngh.

The Limit Does Not Exist by @agirlnamedkeith / sameboots - Fics with a power imbalance are something I approach with a lot of caution but I LOVED the way that sameboots handled it here. The fact that this fic includes her signature extremely hot feelings-forward porn as well as a thoughtful exploration of what it can mean to be a woman in STEM is like a beautiful multi-course meal; I cared a LOT about whether they were gonna do it and I was also equally invested in how Brienne’s thesis was going to turn out and where she would go from there. I love Brienne’s stubbornness and determination and even though she’s finding her way here (as you would be, as a grad student), those elements are VERY much on display and they spark fantastically against an initially guarded and caustic but eventually deeply admiring Jaime. And while I don’t want to spoil anything, I will say that I feel like the end is a perfect illustration of one of the major themes of the fic, and I love it so much for that. Watching this one take shape and watching sameboots geek out over her math research was a delight, and the result is excellent (and did I mention, extremely hot). Definitely worth all her work!
A favorite line: “Has anyone ever told you that you’re the worst liar?” (KIDDING HANNAH ILU HERE’S THE REAL ONE:)  The problem with smoothies was that it was hard to make them aggressively., Angrily pushing a button didn’t have the same release as whaling on a punching bag. Brienne didn’t have a punching bag, though, and she desperately needed to do something, and she was hungry. ANGRY SMOOTHING-MAKING. I LOVE IT.
_____
Right Off the Bat by @hillaryschu - A You’ve Got Mail AU where Jaime and Brienne are rival Little League coaches who unknowingly bond over Twitter is SUCH a great idea, and Hillary committed to it right down to the delightful rom-com-trailer summary. She also put an enormous amount of care into the details of the story--she had references for outfits, buildings, even Jaime’s cologne--and it shows in all the lush descriptions throughout. The banter is sparky, watching their two relationships gradually unfold is a lot of fun, there’s a particular tipsy (on Brienne’s part) Twitter DM exchange that I still get flustered thinking about, and there’s a batting cage scene that will be haunting my brain for a while. Especially given that Hillary had never written a story anywhere near this long before, I’m so impressed that she pulled it off (and fixed some of the most problematic elements of the movie, too). Congratulations to her on rising to the challenge!
A favorite line: But as they part from each other, Brienne lifts the hem of her tee to wipe the dirt and sweat from her face. Her exposed stomach is pale and toned, with softly defined muscles that gleam with perspiration. Jaime trips over home plate. SAME JAIME. SAME.
_____
X Marks the Spot (where I’ll find you again) by @pretty--thief - PIRATES. I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE PIRATES. And this fic is such a fantastic blend of snappy, exciting swashbuckling (and hilarious use of parrots) and a very poignant backstory that underlays the adventure with all this yeeeeeearning and it’s SO GOOD. The action scenes are thrilling, the descriptions are gorgeous, there is STARGAZING and BATTLE COUPLE, the Jaime snark is chefkiss, Brienne is so brave and committed and quietly full of feelings, there’s a really lovely discussion of the ethics of being in the military, and also Pod and Addam and Arya and PIRATES FOR JUSTICE. SO HERE FOR THAT. And did I mention the yeeeeeearning (which is paid off wonderfully--the penultimate chapter lived rent-free in my mind for about a week after I first read it)? Ugh SO GOOD.
A favorite line: When he had exited his quarters, Brienne had looked at him with so much concern in her eyes it threatened to swallow Jaime whole. He’d felt something similar when he was around Cersei, when they were fucking or fighting; a fire he had once thought he could never tire of, would never want to put out. But Brienne had reached out her hand, as if on reflex, and smoothed her thumb across his tired brow. The ship had continued to sway beneath them, and Jaime didn’t feel fire. He didn’t feel like he would be turned to ash at any moment. He felt a breeze, the wind in his hair and salty air in his lungs. as;lfkja;sldjgas;lfjas;lf
_____
Federation Fliers by @elizadunc /Ladybugbear2 - A short and very sweet one! I adore the world that Megs created in this and would happily read many many more words in it, but this is a lovely glimpse in and of itself, and made me so happy. Established relationship (which I love), one of my favorite Jaime nicknames for Brienne, a wonderfully badass Brienne and a wonderfully besotted Jaime, all against a fascinating backdrop. So good!
A favorite line: She belonged in the sky. She had a grace to her movements on the ground, but in the sky she was ethereal. HEART-EYES
_____
And now for a few that I just read after they were posted like a normal person:
Wine Down by @slipsthrufingers - SOME MILD SPOILERS HEREIN FYI. Okay first of all, the summary of this fic is deliciously evil and I think we all need to appreciate that. Also, it starts out with Jaime and Brienne having lunch together and these glorious descriptions of food and he has taken note of the specific food she likes and is making sure it’s provided for her and that is SO VERY MUCH MY LOVE LANGUAGE YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. I FLAILED. And then things go, shall we say, a bit downhill, but in the most achingly beautiful way--Jaime sacrificing himself for Brienne and Brienne determined to tether him to life through sheer force of will and steadfast devotion. Slips puts us right into Brienne’s headspace/heartspace while she’s worrying for Jaime and trying to negotiate the fucked-up Lannister family dynamics (and the observations on said dynamics are wonderful too), and this hits such an excellent balance of Brienne’s rigidly controlled surface and everything that’s roiling away underneath. I’m always fascinated by the idea of what could have happened during the time that Brienne was in King’s Landing and this is such a brilliant exploration of how things could have gone, and Brienne’s interactions with the rest of the Lannisters (and Sansa) give the world that much more depth as well. The descriptions throughout are beautiful, there are so many lovely turns of phrase, the intimacy between Jaime and Brienne is just devastating, and it all comes back around to an immensely satisfying conclusion. SO GOOD.
A favorite line: The gods had seen fit to give her an unwomanly body, so she had taken up the sword. They had given her an ugly face, so she had perfected her manners and courtesies so they could never be frowned upon. But they had given her a maiden’s heart, and try as she might she had never found the right weapon to protect it. MY PRECIOUS GIRL.
_____
A Matter of Honor by @nire-the-mithridatist - I shrieked at nire in DMs basically the whole time I was reading this story, it made me experience like 90% of the range of human emotions in one night and I’m still mad about it. This features a fascinatingly flipped script where Brienne is the wealthy one and Jaime the supplicant, and an arrogant-ass supplicant he is. Brienne is an angy baby nineteen-year-old who is furious at the entire world and I fucking adore her for it, and watching all the events unfold through the lens of her (generally well-founded) suspicions was a delicious sort of torture where I trusted NO ONE and genuinely did not know exactly what was going to happen next. Nire turns a lot of marriage fic tropes on their head in this and it’s all done brilliantly, and there is EXTREMELY SEXY SWORD-FIGHTING (and as a sexy bonus, Brienne’s perspective on it feels so perfect for someone who is truly an accomplished swordswoman), and nire uses some common elements throughout to just pack in these layers and layers of meaning and significance, and there are many turns of phrase so perfect that they hurt, and then she’s like “hey would you like to re-feel all the feelings in this story again in a very concentrated burst” and it’s SO MUCH, and the conclusion pays everything off amazingly. And even though it’s very swoony and romantic (and HOT. I SHOULD MENTION VERY HOT), there’s a hint of melancholy to it too, reckoning with what it means to be a woman--even a wealthy one--in Brienne’s world, and it’s just the perfect crunch of salt on top of all the sweetness. LOVE.
A favorite line: He brought her knuckles to his lips. As sweet as honeyed nettles, he declared, “Lady Brienne. You have made me the happiest of men.” As the crowd roared in approval, she felt the sting of his kiss. STING OF HIS KISS ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Also I’m including this for purely thirsty reasons but NO SHAME: He stood from the sofa and went to help his wife undress, and if she noticed his averted eyes and his trembling hands—oh gods, the laces went on endlessly down her back, and with each pull, a little more of her figure was revealed, barely veiled by her gauzy shift—she said nothing. I DIED. I ALSO SAID NOTHING BECAUSE I WAS DEAD. Fuck, man.
_____
The Riverlands Gang Go to the Zoo by @naomignome - Another shorter and very delightful one with Naomi’s typical brand of chaotic humor that I adore. It’s Hyle POV, for one thing, which is good times, and the structure of this is so clever--the way each section of the zoo is used to progress the story is so seamless and happy-making, and there are tons of little jokes and Easter eggs packed in along with a very sweet, snarky emotional storyline wherein Hyle is definitely doomed. Plus another EXCELLENT Brienne nickname in here. LOVELY.
A favorite line: “Pixel!” he said laughingly, “You know if you fell in the bear pit, I would jump after you without a second thought.” “You need to have a first thought in order to have a second one.” Brienne said dryly. SUCH A GOOD BURN.
_____
all these people think love’s for show (but i would die for you in secret) by @naomignome - This is SUCH A FLEX because not only did Naomi write TWO fics for her recipient but they are WILDLY DIFFERENT and I’m so impressed with her for doing it! This one is SPIEEEEESSSS and Naomi packs so much tension into 5K, I was on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. Canon events are woven in astonishingly well, and it’s a delicious enemies-to-partners-to-lovers situation that involves some excellent hurt/comfort and excellent use of RAIN to moody/sexy effect and it’s just all very thrilling. YUM.
A favorite line: He lets off a single bullet and it grazes the inside of her thigh, enough to make her wince and draw blood, but not enough to stop her from tackling him to the ground and wrestling him into submission. She’s got both of his wrists pinned above his head and her knee is drawn up and pressed against his torso. Jaime’s chest is heaving under her knee. Her chest is heaving in tandem. From above him, Brienne can see the green of his eyes darken, and even in submission, he’s annoyingly beautiful. Her blood is rushing, and it’s not all adrenaline. WHEW. SAME.
_____
as stars once a year brush the earth by @ylizam / mazily - Another wonderfully bite-sized one (good job actually taking the minimum word count as a guideline, people who did that, unlike the rest of us dumbasses!) that packs a lot into a small space. A canon-ish soulmates AU that’s so understated and dreamy, but with the echo of all the turmoil they’ve gone through to get to this place that brings everything in sharp relief. It’s also funny and sexy and romantic as fuck, and there are gorgeous poetic descriptions, and they spar by a WATERFALL, and just. So much happens in just over 1600 words! IMPRESSIVE.
A favorite line: Her right hand goes numb, unfeeling; back in their rooms Jaime is waking up, and she knows the phantom ache of his missing hand is bothering him. Jaime is waking, and yawning, the bed linens pooling around his waist and highlighting his summer tanned skin. She misses him, suddenly, as wide as the endless sea in front of her. BEAUTIFUL.
OKAY THIS WAS A LONG POST. That’s all I’ve got for now--more to come as I continue my reading!!

Working on the last (?) Character Bleed bonus story, today...
#
James Parr, clutching six bottles of wine, stared at the door. He hadn’t knocked or rung the bell yet, partly because of the armful of wine and partly because he was busy telling himself to remember to breathe.
The door gazed back, pale blue and noncommittal. Maybe it didn’t approve of his choice of shirt, or his hair, or his sudden complete panic. What if Colby Kent’s door didn’t approve of him?
He shifted weight, did not turn and flee, and murmured, “Knew I should’ve worn the blue shirt
”
He didn’t know why he was here. More accurately, he knew why he’d come: Colby and Jason Mirelli had extended an invitation for dinner. And no one in any sort of right mind would turn down that invitation. Between Colby’s sweetness and Hollywood power, as movie star and writer and producer, and Jason’s muscles and family legacy, interwoven with the whole history of the industry, anyone would say yes; they might also say yes out of sheer curiosity, as Colby tended to be adorable and precious but private, and any glimpse inside was an honor.
Also, industry legend said that Colby was a genius cook, and Jason wasn’t half bad either. James’s stomach suggested pointedly that he go ahead and knock.
 He couldn’t. He just
couldn’t. Could he?
He knew they’d asked him. He didn’t know why him, why they’d taken an interest, what’d prompted the invitation. He’d never even met Jason, though they’d been at the same events on occasion; he had met Colby, briefly, during the auditions for Steadfast. James winced, remembering.
He’d wanted the role of Stephen, as quite a few people had, and he’d been lucky enough to get a call to come in. Colby Kent was non-negotiable as Will, obviously, as producer and—though the world hadn’t known it yet—scriptwriter. James had done the scene with Colby, and it’d been a gorgeous scene, lush and clever and full of first meeting anticipation on a balcony. He thought he’d done all right, but he also knew he hadn’t been quite right; he’d wondered even then. Colby was so very good—the awards attested to that—and had balanced Will’s privilege and sarcasm with delicate unexpected vulnerability, and James had possibly been just a little too flirtatious, treating Stephen’s lines about choices with not quite enough weight. He’d hoped he’d get a chance to do it again for real; he could take director’s notes readily, with humor and without argument.
He hadn’t had the chance, of course, because Jason Mirelli had walked out of formulaic action-hero thrillers and right into Stephen’s Royal Navy boots and also into Colby’s heart. Jason had shown the world that he was brilliant, and James knew he’d been the right choice; everyone knew. No resentment possible, not with that performance. Only admiration.
He’d be seeing Colby again tonight. If he managed to knock on the door. He did some more silent communing with it. That wasn’t the only reason for his nerves.
Jason, on the phone, had said casually, “Oh, there might be four of us, you know my friend Evan, he’s been the stunt choreographer on all your superhero movies, yeah? He’s in town too, so he might drop by, if that’s cool with you.” And James had squeaked out some sort of embarrassing high-pitched affirmative, and collapsed back against his front door, because he’d just walked in from the gym when Jason had called.
Evan. Evan Richards. Who had, yes, been orchestrating and choreographing and training everyone for all those stunts, for all four films so far. Who was devastatingly competent and patient and gorgeous in every conceivable way, as far as James could tell. Who was, in fact, the man James’s pathetic heart had fallen head over heels for, literally, because he’d walked in to meet their choreographer and learn the first-ever set of moves for his super-soldier character, and then he’d tripped right over a mat, because holy shit the muscles and the motion, fluid and flexible and fast and smooth as silk, on display and glorious

Evan, who’d been practicing some more complicated moves that he himself would be doing as James’s double, had spun around and run over and been at his side in a flash. Had held out a hand, while James sat on the floor and stared up at strength and power and big brown eyes and, oh god, dimples.
Evan Richards was kind to everyone, even actors who forgot their own names while ogling him. Evan when not working on a film taught Krav Maga and self-defense classes at a local LA place, and offered classes for all levels and ages. Evan never seemed to be upset about anything, not even when someone hadn’t practiced enough or wasn’t getting a move; he’d just calmly explain it all again, with demonstrations, without making anyone feel guilty or inadequate. Evan tended to look at life that way, with calm good humor and excitement about challenges; he possessed a level of self-discipline that James’s impulses could only dream about, from morning workouts to the literal three alcoholic drinks James had seen him consume in nearly six years to consummate professionalism on set, but he managed all that in a laid-back sort of way, never judging anyone else for different decisions, which was good, because James himself had very definitely made some terrible ones regarding vodka and fluffy pink feather dusters, on occasion.
Evan made all their movies better; he made James’s life better, and James’s heart had never recovered from that first tumble into pink billowing clouds. He’d thought it might; he’d thought it would get better, with time and Evan’s apparent lack of need to stare at him in turn.
Nearly six years in, it hadn’t.
He’d tried flirting with Evan. James knew he personally wasn’t some sort of heaven-sent sculpture of male athleticism, definitely not compared to Evan in a clinging super-suit. But he thought he was reasonably attractive—thick dark hair, blue eyes, good chin, what an ex had called “that wholesome young Superman look”—and he was pretty good at sex, and he was—he hoped—a decent guy to have around. That might be something Evan liked, right?
He’d always loved falling into bed with friends, making people happy, any and all genders welcome, sometimes all at once. He could be, and had been, up for just about anything, and he liked people who were enthusiastic and kind and confident about what they wanted and liked. He’d thought, well, if he’s interested—I’m interested, and maybe—
He really had tried. Complimenting Evan’s skill. Complimenting Evan. Asking Evan out for dinner—not drinks; James had noticed that—which had gotten a yes, but a complete and baffling immunity to flirtation over excellent sushi, as if Evan thought he really just wanted to be friends. Learning some good massage techniques and offering to give Evan a backrub had led to, well, him giving Evan a backrub, on set, both of them fully clothed, and Evan had thanked him after. Pretending to not understand a tricky bit of choreography had worked to the extent of getting Evan’s hands on him, but they’d been profoundly professional hands, and James had finally given up and pretended to get it at last.
After that one he’d gone back to his co-star’s trailer, flung himself dramatically across her couch, and despaired, “What am I doing wrong? Is it me? Am I unlovable? Elizabeth, help me.”
Elizabeth, who’d known him for years, had moved his legs, sat down, and patted his hip. “To be fair, darling, you’re kind of a slut. Perhaps he’s not into that.” In that amused years-faded English accent, the affection shone.
“I am,” James had said, “but I just like making people happy. I want to make him happy. How do I make him happy?”
She’d patted him some more. “Perhaps don’t throw yourself at him quite so hard? He might be shy.”
James, who’d seen Evan welcome a new pair of stunt guys to set by running over and immediately diving into a recreation of the famous fight scene from the third John Kill movie, which both guys had jumped right into while grinning, had said doubtfully, “I don’t think so
”
“Perhaps he’s not in fact into men?”
James had sighed. And had drunk far too much of his hotel’s mini-bar, later that night; had winced at sunlight, on set, and had opened eyes to discover Evan holding out Gatorade and painkillers and a protein bar.
He really had given up, or mostly. Stopped trying to flirt. Dated a couple other people, not seriously. Started trying to get used to being a friend, resigning himself to making Evan happy that way.
He’d noticed that Evan liked travel and exploring new locations; James had made sure to do some research and to mention historic sites or local marketplaces or neat old castle walls they were allowed to ride bikes on. Evan had an astonishing sweet tooth for someone with those abs, and James found a tiny ice cream shop in Prague that deserved every bit of its reputation and brought him there, and loved the way Evan’s eyes lit up and the way Evan wanted to try every flavor and the way Evan licked a sample spoon.
He’d wanted to hold Evan’s hand, walking back to their hotel along medieval cobbled streets under a low-hanging moon. He’d wanted, and he knew he was still and maybe always would be in love; he knew that like a stab to the heart. It felt like the moonlight and tasted like cookies-and-cream, sharp and sweet.
He’d called Evan after they’d wrapped, after they’d all come back home to LA. He’d tried not to. Not being pushy or needy. He’d made it three days. He’d just wanted to hear that voice, calm and happy, talking about an upcoming martial arts class or ideas for changing up some heroic choreography. Evan had answered promptly, and they’d talked for two hours before Evan had headed to bed, having an early morning. After, James had started looking up the address of a secret jazz-themed speakeasy he remembered—they had a good non-alcoholic cocktail menu, too, and to-die-for chocolate cake, and spot-on historic recreation—because he thought Evan might like it, and then he remembered that they weren’t actually dating and they weren’t on location and Evan had no reason to put up with his company day after day.
He sighed again, in the present. Clung to wine. Tried not to drop any. Evan might be here and see it.
He hadn’t managed to knock, but the door opened anyway. James almost took an inadvertent step back, because muscles, but caught the reaction in time.
“Oh, good,” Jason Mirelli said, grinning at him, “you’re right on time. And you brought, like, all the wine. Here, I can take those.” Boulders shifted and mountains bulged; the sleeves of Jason’s shirt stretched outward in forest-green despair as big arms collected all of James’s offerings. “Come on in.”
James shook himself out of fascinated speculation about how Jason ever hugged Colby without crushing adorable blue-eyed slender height. “Um. I didn’t know what you, um, liked? So I just
brought a lot of things?” Good god. He was an actor, a successful veteran of press and publicity tours, and a grown man of thirty-two years. Surely he could talk. “Thanks for, um, inviting me? I mean
yeah. Thanks.”
“Hey, we’re fans. We’ve loved all the Star Captain movies.” Jason sounded sincere, too. Honesty in craggy features, deep velvet-brown eyes. Casually upending the world: in what universe were Colby Kent and Jason Mirelli fans of James Parr? “By the way, Evan’s already here.”

The Art of Falling in Love-Finn Wolfhard × Reader
Chapter One is here...
Chapter Two: Film Day
Word Count 2.2k
Warnings: fluff
_____________________________________
You wake up to your phone buzzing: you mother texts you Good morning sunshine, I hope you have a great day. You visibly smile and respond: Thank you mom, good morning I love you.
You look at the top of your phone screen and view the time: 7:02 a.m. You sigh from exhaustion but you know that you can't go back to sleep. You have to get ready for the long day that you are going to have. First thing's first, breakfast. You eat some cereal and watch a YouTube video of your choice. After all of that is done, you get up to brush your teeth and freshen up before your artists come in to do your hair and makeup.

Jamie "Hi, good morning! How did you sleep?"
"Pretty well, how about you?"
Jamie "Oh well I am used to sleeping in trailer's so I slept like a baby."
Carmen enters the trailer, "Speak for yourself! I barely slept last night."
"Aw I'm sorry!"
Carmen "Don't be, sweetie. Now, let's do your makeup." Her and Jamie spend almost two hours doing your hair and makeup, curling and perfecting you for the camera. You swear to yourself that you have never looked this good before!
"You guys just did that!? Like...how?"
They giggle, "It's our job sweetie. Do you like it?"
"Of course I do." Your makeup is light but flawless and your hair is shiny and curled to perfection. You almost can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror.
Jamie "Alright, you are completely done gorgeous! John and the producers will be in soon to go over a few things."
"Okay, thanks so much." You hug them and they walk out of the door. Being able to feel confident makes you even more excited to see Finn today. Maybe John will allow you to film with him..
John "Hi, Y/n. I know that we have met before but this is my producer Nina."
Nina "Hi"
"Hi, it's nice to meet you."
John went over your role with you and the ways you should act and so on. He was so polite and kind, it put your mind at ease a ton. "Okay, so very simple."
"Yes, thank you. That makes me feel less nervous."
Nina "Don't be nervous at all, I saw your audition Y/n, you are very talented."
"Thank you, Mrs. Nina!"
Nina "Oh please, just Nina." You offer her a nice smile and they make their way out.
John "See you out there, kid."
__________________________
When you see Oakes, he gives you a warm hug and compliments your hair and makeup.
"Thanks! They did a good job, didn't they?"
Finn "Oh yeah!" He walks up from behind you, catching you off guard.
"Hey!" He gives you a tight hug and the biggest smile."
Finn "You look beautiful."
"Thank you. Way better than how you met me last night.."
Finn "No, no! You looked good in your pj's last night too, don't get me wrong."
"Thanks." You try your hardest not to blush but you can't help it.
John "So, I am guessing that you met Finn!"
"Oh yeah, he came to say hi to me last night."
John "Well that is good, you two are going to have to be around each other for a while so get comfortable with each other. We start shooting in five."
Oakes "Okay!"
Finn "Maybe we will get to film together after all."
"That would be fun. I haven't read it in the script yet though."
Finn "Not everything has to be in the script for it to be in the movie, Y/n."
"Oh!"
Oakes "For example, for my last film my co-star and I were literally just bullshitting and we didn't notice that they were still filming and they kept that little bit in the movie."
"That's awesome." You, Finn and Oakes talked until it was time to start shooting.

.
Your first scene is with Oakes in a museum. Nothing was said and it was quick because it was literally the first scene for the movie. They took three different shots of the same scene and then they called it for the first scene.
When they call cut, you turn around and see Finn sitting back with a few of the co-stars and smiling at you. Has he been watching you this entire time? If so, that is so adorable! You move a stray piece of hair away from your face and smile back.
Oakes "Oh, I think he likes you."
You joke "Shut up!" You playfully nudge him and he nudges you back. This was going to be one of the funnest times of your entire life.
Finn "You did good!"
"Thanks!"
Ansel "Finn, you haven't introduced us! I'm Ansel, I play older Theo."
"I think I have seen your movies before, hi!"
Ansel "That's awesome! I hope you liked them."
"Of course. Are you filming now?"
Ansel "Oh no, I just wanted to stop by and see old friends. I don't start filming until tomorrow."
"Oh okay." Sarah Paulson comes up behind you.
Sarah "Who is this cutie?!"
"Oh my god!" She laughs and pulls you in for a hug, knowing you were an obvious fan of hers. "I'm Y/n, I play Pippa."
Sarah "Ohh okay! I saw the last bit there, you mastered the facial expressions girl."
"Thank you!"
Oakes "Oh hey, step mom!"
Sarah "Hey kiddo!" They laugh and hug each other. You have to pinch yourself because it does not feel real. You are not only around Finn, now you are around Sarah, one of your idols in this industry.
Finn "Did you have fun shooting that scene?"
"I guess, yeah. I'm looking forward to doing my lines."
Finn "Yeah, the dramatic scenes aren't as fun."
"Yeah, are you shooting soon?"
Finn "Laster on during the day. I do the school scene today."
"I'm excited to see it!"
He speaks in Russian that you don't understand. He laughs at your reaction.
"Holy shit...you are good at Russian!"
Finn "Practice. I have to say quite a bit in Russian."
"It sounds like you have adapted the language as your own."
Finn "You're too sweet." Oakes starts in the conversation, breaking you out of your little trance that he had you under.
Oakes "I still can't believe that you have to call me Potter.."
"No way."
Finn "Those glasses do look like Harry Potter's...it only makes sense."
Oakes rolls his eyes and you three laugh. Sarah and Ansel talk to you a bit more and get to know you while Oakes films his second scene with Nicole Kidman among others. Seeing Nicole act in person is astonishing, she is so gifted. You sat next to Finn while you both waited your turn. Every once in a while, he would give you pointers on things that Oakes and Nicole did. He knew that you are fairly new and wanted to help you the best that he could which made you feel so appreciative.
__________________________
You had to change hair and makeup for your next and last scene for the day. Since your character was in the museum 'bombing', you had to get a prosthetic put on your head, making it look like you had a huge scar. It was so well done and so believable that it left you shaken.
"You all are so talented.."
Bill "Thank you very much!"
You change wardrobe and make your way to the next area to film. This time, it is a bedroom where you and Oakes have to shoot. When he sees you, he is taken aback.
Oakes "Woah!"
"I know.."
Oakes "All I gotta say is that I'm glad that it's not real.."
"Yeah, me too."
John "Alright guys, positions!!"
You lay down on the bed and do your lines as well as Oakes. This took way longer than the first shoot, understandably. Luckily, you didn't mess up any of your lines and did them correctly. By the time he called cut, your head was pounding from all of the ups and downs of emotions. One moment, you had to act tired and the next moment you had to be in tears. Oakes noticed and he offered you a warm smile.
Oakes "You are a natural! You had me choken up the whole time!"
"Good, I'm glad! That means that our scenes together will move the audience."
Oakes "It really will. And here you were, saying that you weren't good. Are you kidding?!"
"You're the best." You give him a hug and go back to your trailer where they undress you and take off your prosthetic and makeup. After most of the day having it all on, it felt wonderful when it all came off.
Jamie "John and Nina told me how amazing you and Oakes did today.."
"Really?!"
Carmen "And Kiira (the casting director) told me how glad that she was that she casted you for Pippa."
"I might cry! That is so sweet."
__________________________
You get into your own clothing and get back outside. You want to see Finn's scene and support him like he did for you. You take a seat next to Sarah and Luke (Luke Wilson who plays Theo's father)
The scene is about to start when Sarah leans in and whispers to you, "Ya know, he hasn't stopped talking about you since you got here right?"
"Really?"
Sarah smirks, "mhm. I think he likes you. But hey, that's just me."
You blush and look away. Does he really like you? How could he? You don't look like every other actress, you are just you...nothing special. But maybe he does.
Finn and Oakes scene lasts on and off for three hours. Finn was even better of an actor in person. Seeing the way he poses himself as a totally different person with a totally different language was so interesting to watch.
Tumblr media
When he finishes, they make their way back to where you all are at and he sat down next to you. He notices that you are smirking at him and smiles.
"You are too good at this."
He starts laughing which makes you happy, "You're just saying that."
"No I'm not! Finn, you are so talented, it's crazy."
Finn "Thank you so much. So are you, I saw you on your last shoot," he takes in your appearance, "Those crying parts were hard to watch without me crying and I hardly ever cry unless I have to."
"Really? Thank you."
Finn "Yeah, no problem."
Oakes "Well I don't know about you guys, but I am starving."
"I could eat."
Finn "Let's get out of these clothes and then I'll drive us to get something to eat!" You and Oakes agree and you wait for them to come out of their trailers.
You are wearing a pair of light blue ripped jeans and a white kind-of-cropped hoodie with converse. Finn comes out wearing jeans and a hoodie, same as Oakes. Sarah notices that we are all wearing hoodies and chuckles.
Finn "What?"
Sarah "I just love how you are all wearing hoodies, I love it."
"Hoodies are so comfy!"
Finn "What she said!" You four laugh and then leave to get some food.

Oakes let's you sit in the front with Finn and you all blare good music with the windows down. He decides on getting Chick-fil-a and who could say no to that?! At the restaurant, you all talked about anything and everything: family and friends, music, movies and TV shows, favorites and inspirations. You could talk to them all day long and never get bored. You truly feel like this job is changing your life for the best because you have already gained so much.
When you get back to the trailer park, Oakes says good night and leaves you and Finn alone.
Finn stops by your trailer and pauses, "You really did good today."
"Thank you Finn, it means a lot coming from you."
Finn "I know, I am really glad that you are here. I don't think that I have ever had such a good time on set before."
"Me neither."
Finn "Hey, I was thinking that if we wake up early enough, I could take you to breakfast if you'd like?"
"Yeah, yeah I'd love to."
Finn smiles, "Alright, awesome. So it's a date." He gives you a warm embrace and then says good night.
You sit down on your bed and call your mother to catch her up on your day.
Mother "I'm so proud of you! I knew that you would do amazing today!"
"Thanks mom."
Mother "And Finn
how is he?"
"Amazing."
Mother "tell me, tell me."
"Mom I'll text you, I love you."
Mother "Oh alright...I love you too. Sleep tight."
You text your mom and tell her how nice Finn has been and how he asked you on a little date tomorrow. She gushes over it and makes you blushy. Everyone tells you that he likes you and you are starting to believe it. You turn off the lights and climb into bed and fall asleep with a smile on your face.

i want to end this bullshit right here & now;
Legend Of Mana should be remade. The game is amazing in every aspect. I can’t even imagine how beautifully the graphics could be reimagined & how much more detail we could behold. The game is a piece of artwork on it’s own, as were Secret Of Mana & Trials Of Mana.
Secret Of Mana remake had paled to the original in only certain aspects. Our environment gained more depth & the characters which filled the story became more solid. No more confusion over what certain pixels meant toward the characters’ appearances. The game was also made easier for younger audiences to play. I also appreciated the addition of the cut scenes shown at the inns.
I have only seen the e3 trailer for Trials Of Mana remake & I cried. The beauty & dimensions were more than I could handle. Just as i preordered Collection Of Mana, I intend to preorder the remake of Trials Of Mana. & of course, since Legend Of Mana was my favorite game in the series, I would preorder that as well. I would cut off all my limbs & sell all my possessions for a remake of Legend Of Mana.
Anyone who has genuinely played the Mana series, or even just played Legend Of Mana when a child would understand the true majesty of the game.
I have seen people complain about the map building, mission triggering, battle system & storyline. I think these people are uneducated & uncultured. Anyone how can’t recognize the ingenuity of the game should probably just stick to brainless first person shooting games.
The map building feature has also been seen in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance & Egglia. In my opinion, playing both Legend Of Mana & Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as a child, I was never once confused about placing land. I think the whole thing explains itself. In Legend Of Mana, there was even a feature where if you pressed a specific button it would tell you about land placement. & this is important, because the more playthroughs you have of the game, the more you learn about the game, the more fun it is to pay attention to elemental aspects in the pre existing areas & in the artifact placement (certain missions, pet monsters & produce will only be available if you are paying attention to element levels.)
I will admit, certain missions were difficult to finish, one that sticks out in my mind the most is Rachel. That mission is very difficult to complete without looking at a walkthrough. However, that mission isn’t crucial to the story & is still a very deep & fantastic mission. Perhaps if Meimei was more clear about her hints? For me, because I’ve played through more than thirteen times, I have pretty much every mission memorized. But I personally didn’t hate returning to locations you’ve already been to & talking to people you’ve already talked to to trigger new quests or complete or progress in quests you’ve already started. Because if you’re involved in golem making, blacksmithing, or magic/ instrument manufacturing, you would already be going out into the world to collect materials, so you would already be going back to places you’ve already been to.
Personally, I haven’t been too adept with battling. I didn’t understand plunge attacks, however my friend does. & that friend is more of a Dark Souls type player. What I will say is having the two other battle buttons freely customizable is so much fun. In every playthrough I have used different combinations of attacks with weapons & I am always learning something new. On top of that, as you utilize the other attacks (cheer & spin & so forth I mean) you learn really fantastic special moves. To this day I have a blast learning & using different special techniques! & playing as a child I was totally unaware of syncro. As an adult I love playing with the different syncros like treasure hunting with a polterbox & just exploring all the different gifts my followers & monsters can bestow upon me.
Lastly, for the elements people didn’t like, the story. The depth of the stories in Legend Of Mana is absolutely astonishing. I can’t believe anyone who played previous games in the series but say they don’t like Legend Of Mana. Sure, the gameplay changed. But there are so many references to the previous games. Like the Popoie statue save point, the statues of the Trials Of Mana Heroes, Death Jester & Gildervine in Kristie’s palace. All the names of weapon shops & inns & whatnot are all named after major characters that existed in the earlier games. Plus there’s ties to past areas, like the outskirts of Fieg lead to Altena & I believe Luon leads to Lorant (Rolante). Lumina/ Roa is basically the village of Mintos. & it is so exciting & fascinating to discover these areas.
& having three story arcs to lead to the end of the game is also reminiscent of Trials Of Mana. With the Dragons questline being a direct tie in because if my assumption is correct, Drakonis was also one of the final bosses in Trials Of Mana. Both the jumi story arc & Star Crossed lovers were beautiful stories that resonate within me to this day. & I’m sure I’m not the only one! During the scene where Matilda speaks to Irwin in the Underworld or the scene where your player character cries for the jumi with the flash of Bud & Lisa waiting for you at home. I have cried every time from these scenes. I cry at the end scene when Niccolo looks for the Sproutlings. The stories are so beautifully woven, people who I know in real life who don’t play video games are blown away by how powerful the stories are when I recite them.
& those are just the aspects people didn’t like about the game! One problem I have with a lot of mainstream rpgs is everything is so ugly, everything looks the same as what came before it. We would never have this problem in a remake of Legend Of Mana. The original game was so captivating on it’s own, imagine how deep & alive it could become. To travel the corridors of the Flames, down the alleys of moonlit Lumina. The winding, golden streets of Geo, the towering spires of the junkyard to the beautiful & serene lakeside of Kilma. It is my dream more than anything to live within that game.
& when you’ve played the game, when you’ve grown wary of questing, there is still so much for you to do. You can travel the land & collect & hatch monster eggs to raise your own pet monster, try your hand growing produce or adding amazing effects to weapons & armor to make your character godlike, as well as collecting the rare & unique weapons & armors. I stated before all the different ways you could play the game in battle. I love harvesting materials to create my own weapons & armor & in turn enchant them. I love to learn about all the different enchantments my armors can have. & when you’ve made great armor, you can turn them into golems! & along with learning special techniques, you can use your elemental coins & gathered materials to create instruments to learn new & powerful magicks to fight with.
& as all of this didn’t already sound like the greatest game conceived, the whole thing is decorated with colorful characters, who are all so different & in turn their own entities. I am in awe of Thesenis, witch of reincarnation & ex wife of the Deathbringer (am I wrong to assume he was Thanatos in Secret Of Mana? & didn’t he also appear as arch demon in Trials Of Mana?). Elazul is a knight who appears to be a bit of an wiener at first, but time & time again he wins me over with his love for Pearl & his yearning to save his race from a genocide at the hands of Sandra. Sandra, who only wanted to save the life of her beloved Florina.
Irwin may have been a demon, but most of the things he had done seemed to prove he was a good man worthy of love & acceptance. & the outcome of Star Crossed Lovers/ Heaven’s Gate rips my heart apart over & over. A quest that exhibits mankind’s jealousy & hate may be worse than the entities we call demons. & how the jumi story arc will forever change the way you look at gemstones.
As of this moment, I am sure there is so much that I’m overlooking about how great the game is. & perhaps for some individuals reading this, maybe you’ve learned new aspects about the game you didn’t even know before, maybe someone is reading this who played the game but didn’t like it at face value but may reconsider goaded by my ravings.
I grew up in a house with Secret Of Mana in the Super Nintendo. The game was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my life (even to this day). The game ended up being given to my cousin by someone else. So for so long I dreamed to play the game myself, as I was too young when I watched my relatives play it. When I was ten years old I was given an old box of video games. The box contained Legend Of Mana. I rejoiced that I would at least be able to play a sequel to the game my heart yearned for. In time, the Mana series has become my all time favorite, with Legend Of Mana the very best in my opinion. (& also the last consider all the following weren’t all that good)
What spellbound me was not only the color, details & diversity, but the fact that as a ten year old with not a lot of video game or rpg experience outside of Pokemon, I was able to play it & finish it. My love of this game has kept me coming back & playing it over & over. & every single time I play it, I encounter a new element, learn something about it I never knew before, or just straight out find dialogue I had never seen before. Now I am twenty three writing this, & to this day it is my favorite game & I am still finding things within it that I had never seen before. This game is my home.
I would close by saying that to see this game remade would be a dream come true to me & many others. I am very sure/ aware the game was very popular in Japan which had caused the phone game that included the characters from the first three games. I wish I could have experienced that. But I think it’s a great game to get young kids into rpgs & into the series, because it was easy & colorful & there was so much to do. In my opinion I don’t think games like Elder Scrolls Skyrim would exist without Legend Of Mana.
All the critics & nay sayers should be ashamed of themselves. But if for some reason Trials Of Mana can’t sell to it’s quota, I think Americans should at least be allowed to preorder copies, so at least everyone on the same page as me can be satisfied. I don’t think anything in game needs to change to appease to players who never even liked the game in the first place. Legend Of Mana has a very strong fanbase that exists & will always love the game.
My only suggestions are additions. That I personally, would love to be able to use the whip from Secret Of Mana as a weapon in Legend Of Mana. After playing the remaster of Secret Of Mana, it reminded me how badass the whip & boomerang are. They would be a really exciting addition! It would also liven things up to see some new monsters. I would also be more than delighted to see certain areas extended & more quests as well as maybe a few completely new locations. I want to know what that one mysterious room in the Bone Fortress is for. It would be cool to learn more about the dragons, the other jumi & the academy of magic. But these are my opinions. All my prayers & life are devoted to this game. & I hope that it achieves a supreme success so maybe we could see a direct sequel. I would also like to learn more about Elise, since she created both the Lilipeas & Gaeus.
So for anyone who’s read this far, if you feel similarly to me, I think you should express it to. I would give everything that I am to see this game.

AureliusAurelius, WTF this I just watch?
Tumblr media
I saw Fantastic Beasts 2 yesterday and I gotta say I am very, very disappointed, which is the total opposite of my feelings towards the first movie. I'm gonna talk (a lot) about every character and the things that didn't work for me, so... BEWARE, SPOILERS AHEAD.
We're gonna start with Newt, given that he is (supposedly) the protagonist of the movies. I think he was okay, not great like in the first movie, but he didn't have a lot of room to do things and be himself, so okay is fine. He is basically a pawn under Dumbledore, but he gets so frustrated because he knows he wants to do want Dumbledore says, even though he shouldn't, that it's very funny and very relatable. I absolutely loved the first scene with his creatures, seeing him chasing after baby nifflers was very funny and held the promise of more fun coming (spoiler, the delivery was meh). I absolutely, absolutely loved the kelpie. It was so, so, so beautiful and amazing, but we'll talk more about the creatures later.
I was really astonished with the young actor they casted to play Young Newt because he was spot on. Truly. Standing ovation to the young man.
Tumblr media
Even though I really liked Newt and his portrait, my question is (and is one I'm gonna be repeating very often, sadly), what was the point of Newt in the movie. What was he supposedly doing in Paris? I mean, what was the point of him going? Was he supposed to find Grindewald? Help Tina find Credence? Find Queenie? Because he did none of these things. The only thing he did was use the Niffler as a police dog - kudos to Cecil, (I don't know why I thought he was called Cecil, but apparently not. Well, I don't care is a cute name for a Niffler)-, lick the floor and have a very awkward and cute romantic moment with Tina at the worse time and place, but did whatever. Oh, and the innecesary family and love drama
Tumblr media
Oh Jacob and Queeni, what did they do to you two? Where was the funny and charming man of the first movie? Where was the sweet, caring, sensitive and daring lady we all loved? I think JK dind't know what to do with these two, and she tried to create drama for the sake of drama, and it shows. Jacob recovered his memories because there weren't bad memories (I'm okay with that), but Queenie has enchanted him because they can't get married (Really? Queenie? It's so OOC it's not even funny. And if you're gonna do that, at least you could've make Queenie selfish and that she simply enchantes him while he remembers nothing, because she wants to be with him. I think it would have worked better with the Queenie plot twist). So, after they go to visit Newt who knows why, because supposely they want to go to Paris to get married, so it simply doesn't make sense that they go to see Newt, when a) Queenie knows he is gonna see through the enchantement (which he does), and b) he's gonna be against it and will try to lift it (which he also does). C'mon Queenie, you're smarter than that!
Long story short, they argue, Queenie runs to Paris to be with Tina without telling his sister (logic not found, cause everyone knows that Paris is a very small city and you can find whoever you wanna find in 10 minutes tops); and the work of Jacob is finished in this movie. Not, really. He doesn't do anything else except for a very funny moment with Flammel. There's even a moment at the Lestrange mausoleum when he disappears in thin air and reappears when the plot needs him... (He arrives way before the rest and does who knows what until the plot needs for all to go inside for the speech. C'mon.)
And Quennie of course can't find his sister in Paris (no shit Sherlock), gets overwhelmed, finds Grindewald's skull french lady (yes, I'm calling her that), meets Grindewald, has a moment of “OMG, OMG, OMG, you're really bad”, he tells her that “love is love, right?”, and she decides that “OMG, this is a very nice young man, not the maniac genocide that everyone says. I mean, in his speech he only says that muggles are less, but obviously he's gonna let me marry my muggle boyfriend.” Really? Really? It just doesn't work. No. Not with Queenie. It's like JK Rowling totally forgot about the character she created in the first movie. I want my sparkly and caring Queenie back dammit.
Leta, Theseus and the whatever fuck their story was supposed to be about. Once again, the big question, what was the point of Leta and Theseus in this movie? Why does the wizard community hate Leta so much? Since when does McGonagall a) exist at that time (I saw that Rowling deleted McGonagall's birth date from Pottermore because she fucked up), and b) run after a student? Seriously? Who was the writer of this movie again?
Going back to Leta. Yes, yes, she is beautiful, has amazing hair, awesome clothes, on flick eyebrows, is very sad and has the lamest fiancĂ© in history. Were we supposed to care about the family drama? Really? Were we supposed to care about the calamari guy? Or this was just another way to show us that the Lestrange family is bad? I don't know. I think this plot would have worked better without the calamari guy (because he contributes 0) and if Corvus was really alive. But, whatever. And last, but not least, what was the point of sacrificing herself? For what? That she was depressed and that was the easiest way to kill herself? That's the only explanation I have. Once again, the drama for the drama. (See the “I love you” while she looks at the Scamander brothers)
Tumblr media
And Theseus, aside from being bland as fuck, is a fucking awful auror. In the first movie the moto was that if you see Grindewald is a matter of national security and he has to be detained, but in this movie Theseus says “don't arrest him if he doesn't do anything, because giving a speech it's not a crime.”  ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? ARE YOU DUMB OR SOMETHING? Jesuschrist.....
Eh.... what did Tina do in the movie? Was she concerned about her sister? Not one bit, she's perfectly fine with her joining a lunatic's army. Was she concerned about Credence? Even less, because when they find him she doesn't even talk to him (even though she was in Paris for him and, let's not forget, got demoted in the first movie for protecting him). The only thing she is concerned about is Newt and Leta and their engagement. Sigh another good female character lost in the claws of drama for the drama and being the love interest.
We're getting towards the end and the parts I am most angry about.
Dumbledore and Grindewald, I'm still mad that they aren't gonna give us the gay couple we deserve, but whatever, fuck JK, fuck Warner and fuck everyone. Once again, the famous question, what was the point of Dumbledore in this movie? Was showing us that he's a fine and dazzing wizard with an increible taste in fashion? Because if it was, they did perfectly. If it wasn't, I don't know what it was. They didn't give us a love story between them, the Ministry was once again against Dumbledore because of reasons unknown (politicians being incompetent, I see what you did there JK) and he didn't even try to do anything. I don't know, the only thing I truly know is that I'm disappointed, and that he did a sexy blood pact (yep, I'm calling it that) with Grindewald. Oh, I also found out that he has disgusting taste in men. C'mon, Grindewald? Have you seen his hair? Tsk Dumbledore, I expected better.
Tumblr media
Grindewald, like everyone in the movie didn't do a lot, but I didn't care that he didn't. Probably because he is a sassy diva and used the good silk to call his followers. Also, I think the movie was called “The crimes of Grindewald”, right? What are those crimes? The bad hair? I can understand it. Using the good silk to call the followers? Understandable too, because it's gonna be a bitch to clean. The people he killed? Ehm..... nobodies none cared about. A kind of nazi but not really speech? Meh. Tricking Credence? Expected. Convincing Queenie to join the dark side? This one I believe. C'mon, make me a good villain in the third movie JK.
Nagini.............................................. if there's one thing that I was really excited about and disappointed me terribly was Nagini. What was the point of all the hype and backlash the trailer generated if Nagini did nothing in the movie? I truly don't know what was her point in the story. I believe she talk four time tops. Once again, JK being politically correct starring minorities, but not really, because they never do anything. And related to her is Credence, who is my favourite character of the series and the real protagonist. How did he end up in Paris? How did he learn to control de Obscurial? How did he end up with Nagini? Sigh...
After seeing the trailer I thought the movie was going to show us that the Obscurial end up in Paris by chance, and Nagini found him and given that she also has a beast inside, taught Credence how to control it. I don't something with a little bit of logic, an explanation and also giving Nagini some kind of point in the movie. (Apart of showing us the amazing leg she has).
The creatures: I think, except for the Niffler, the only reason they appear is because the movie is called “Fantastic beasts”. In the first movie the creatures (see Frank, the Niffler, the Swooping evil) played a very important part in it, but in the second one? What was the point of the creatures, except for the use of CGI? Except the Niffler, who is the hero of this movie for me, because he did the most (steal the sexy blood pact and be a damn awesome police dog).
Tumblr media
I absolutely loved the Thestrals (they are my favourite fantastic beast ever), I laughed a lot when Grindewald named his Chupacabra “Antonio”, the baby Nifflers were the cutest, the kelpie was a thing of dreams, and the zouwu was very beautiful, but did they have a point? Not really.
My biggest problem with this movie is that it has the pace of a book, and it shows, which per se is not bad, but it doesn't work for a movie. It's like the first half of the book when the boring things happen and they're the preparation for the awesome second half. In a book I can get behind it, in a movie? Not so much. I believe Rowling tried to tell many stories (love triangle between Leta and the Scamanders, love drama between Tina and Newt, Lestrange family drama, love drama between Queenie and Jacob, Credence finding his family, Grindewald, dramadrama between Albus and Grindewald, political drama) in very little time and ended up telling nothing (at least telling it right). I hope AureliusAurelius (I have to laugh with this telenovela plot twist) and the Niffler realize that they are the best of the movie, and go back to New York to be a big happy family with Percival Graves (Gradence for life). Maybe Nagini can go with them and be the awesome character I believe it is.
PD: Shout out to Nicolas Flammel and his little running. He stole my heart. I read somewhere that people ship Albus and Flammel and I'm all for that. (If someone has the gif of him running, pleeeeeease send it to me, I need it in my life).

Mark Gatiss: ‘The League of Gentlemen was a premonition of Brexit’
After a turn on stage as George III, the co-founder of the League is returning to horror to recreate Dracula for TV. What he finds ‘frightening and debilitating’ now, though, is leaving the EU
by Arifa Akbar
Mark Gatiss is recalling an early memory, rocking back and forth on the sofa as he talks. It is an “extraordinarily vivid” moment from when he lived opposite a psychiatric hospital in County Durham. The institution was central to his childhood, a “colony” in which his mother and father worked, where he went to swim, to trampoline, to see films. Except, on this occasion, he was left on one of the wards with his brother to wait for his parents. “I must have been around five. There was a boy rocking on a bed. As I remember it, he had an empty eye socket. He had his thumb in it and he was just rocking – like this.”
Gatiss takes his thumb to his eye and rocks some more. It is a baroque vision, creepy enough to make you squeal, and befitting for one of the creators of the stage show and TV series The League of Gentlemen. As Gatiss says: “You can’t get more northern gothic, can you?”
It is clear he enjoys playing up the northern gothic. His Twitter tagline reads: “Actor. Writer. Strangler.” In person, there is no hint of gloom. He is sweet and sunny, an optimist by his own admission. Still, an unprosperous northern childhood and those years of observing mental illness – and the world’s responses to it – continue to serve him at the age of 52. He is currently in Nottingham, in rehearsals to play the titular lead in Alan Bennett’s 1991 play, The Madness of George III, at the Nottingham Playhouse. The play – which was adapted for a 1994 film, The Madness of King George, starring Helen Mirren and Nigel Hawthorne – dramatises the monarch’s mental illness.
“It was very interesting [to grow up opposite the hospital]. I have a lot experience to draw on for this play. And it’s interesting to think about mental health in the 18th century
It’s a challenge to chart the king in his ‘normal’ state, as it were, and then what happens to him. You have to make sure there’s a journey into his condition, so you have somewhere to go.”
Brexit is like slitting your own throat and going to bed saying: ‘I’ll see how I am in the morning’
Since the TV version of the League – which followed the tormented outcasts and oddballs of the fictional town of Royston Vasey – landed in 1999 and earned Gatiss and his co-stars a legion of fans, he has helped to create some of the most popular shows on TV. These include the revived Doctor Who (as a writer and an actor) and Sherlock, a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes as a 21st-century detective, which he co-created with Steven Moffat and in which he stars as Holmes’s brother, Mycroft. In between, he has worked on films and written books and plays. His stint in Nottingham follows a nationwide tour ofthe League, an Oscar-tipped film (The Favourite) and The Dead Room, a yet-to-be-aired Christmas ghost story starring Simon Callow, which he wrote and directed. After The Madness of George III, he will team up with Moffat again for a BBC/Netflix adaptation of the vampire classic Dracula. “I do work hard and I think that’s a good thing,” he says. “Work hard, be kind, that’s my motto.”
Filming for Dracula will start next year, but Gatiss does not plan to act in it. He will not be drawn on who will be cast as the vampire, but says he and Moffat thought carefully before deciding to set the series in its original period, the 19th century: “We said when we started Sherlock that we briefly got custodianship of the keys to Baker Street and we felt: ‘It’s our go.’ So, we wanted to have ‘our go’ at Dracula and with that we wanted to do all the treats – a big, spooky castle and the rest of it.”
Sherlock was set in the modern day for the opposite reason: “We felt it had become so swamped with Victoriana that people had lost sight of what it was – which is essentially a flat-share story of two unlikely friends, one of whom solves crimes. That was the really exciting thing, to just go back to basics.” While the series has been a runaway success, there have been criticisms: one Guardian article lamented that his Sherlock was morphing into James Bond; it vexed Gatiss so much that he sent the Guardian a rejoinder in rhyme, outlining the differences between his hero and Ian Fleming’s.
Tumblr media
There have been other charges of “unfaithfulness” in Gatiss’s adaptations, but he is adamant about his right to play with an original story. “I feel very strongly about not just drearily reproducing the book. You are duty-bound to think: ‘Here’s an idea, why don’t we flip this round,’ especially if people know it well. It doesn’t spoil the original. No one burns the manuscript
the Tardis would never have left the junkyard in the 1960s if it wasn’t about change.”
And what greater change than a female doctor? The new series is the first with which Gatiss has not been involved since Doctor Who relaunched in 2005. How does he feel about Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor? “First, it’s lovely that I’m enjoying watching it on a Sunday night and not knowing anything about it. I have even tried to avoid the trailer for the next time. And I have said for a very long time that there should be female Doctors. As soon as you watch it, you say: ‘Of course, why not?’ All you need, ever, is for the right person to be playing the part. Jodie is instantly likable, funny, delightfully odd.”
If that is the case, can we – should we – stop at Doctor Who or extend a gender-blind, colour-blind policy to all period dramas? It depends how literal we want to be, Gatiss says, but he balks at the prospect of a female Bond. “Doctor Who is an alien with two hearts who lives in a dimensionally transcendental phone box and can periodically change his or her appearance. James Bond is a man. There’s no way out of that. It becomes a very reductive argument. If you want to create a really kickass new heroine or hero, then do something else.”
If you were to create a female Bond, he adds, would you then follow Fleming’s blueprint of making her a sexist lothario? “What is it about James Bond you want to change? Is it just the sex or is it everything else? In which case, you’ve got a different character anyway.”
Gatiss was not long out of studying theatre arts at Bretton Hall College in West Yorkshire when he co-wrote the League with Jeremy Dyson, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, whom he met there. It has been a long, loyal partnership, even though they went their separate ways – and thrived – before returning after 13 years to take the show back on the road. “We never fell out, we just stopped doing it,” Gatiss says. “We had been doing it virtually day in, day out for 11 years. So, we decided to do other stuff. The extraordinary thing about the tour was that it felt like no time had passed, which is what great friendships are about.”
The League began as a stage sketch show in 1994, when standup was more dominant in comedy. Gatiss and the others were enlisted to fill a slot at a fringe festival. “We did it for five nights and it went down really well. I remember a friend of mine saying: ‘You should do something with this.’” They did – and won the Perrier award at the Edinburgh fringe in 1997. “We did what made us laugh. All the things we loved ranged from proper horror to the horror of embarrassment; Alan Bennett, Victoria Wood, Mike Leigh. It was very much about our northern upbringings, too – we were identifying our own experiences of the world of the north. It was real anger and despair and oddness.”
Tumblr media
Bennett turned out to be a huge fan of the League. “It’s how I came to meet Alan and it was just astonishing to think that he liked The League of Gentlemen. We have always said what a major influence he was for us. I remember so well the first thing I saw of his was a play called Our Winnie [from 1982]. I only watched it because Winnie was my mother’s name. It’s a half-hour drama where Elizabeth Spriggs takes her mentally disabled daughter to the crematorium on a Sunday. I just remember looking at it and thinking: ‘How does he know all this?’ It was just like my life! The way people spoke, the colloquialisms and the amazing sense of oppressive Sunday tedium.”
Two decades on, Royston Vasey’s turned-in world seems to resemble Britain more than it did when it was conceived, I suggest – the local shop for local people, the suspicion of the outsider taken to its freakish, inbred, comic extremity. “Yes, I look at it and think: ‘It’s a bit like a premonition,’” he says. “The idea that: ‘There’s nothing for you here, go away.’ That’s why we pushed it a bit in the specials last year. We were never satirical, but we found it irresistible and deliberately got [the character] Edward to say: ‘It’s time we took back control.’”
The tour took Gatiss to 47 venues around Britain. Did he sense a change, post-Brexit? “Yes. Some places are rust-belt Britain. They’ve been abandoned. I thought constantly of Disraeli and ‘two nations’ [“Two nations between whom there is no intercourse and no sympathy”]. It made me think that some people must look at the events in Westminster as if they’re taking place on the moon. That’s why, when they were finally given the chance, they kicked back. And that’s why we’re in this fucking mess.”
It is not just the rising intolerance of the “immigrant” outsider that he fears, but also the erosion of other liberal, humanist values. As a gay man – he is married to the actor Ian Hallard – he has never felt personally threatened in London, where he lives, “but you go out of London and it’s very different. You go to certain parts of the country and you think: ‘I would modify my behaviour here.’”
The regions around his birthplace were the heartland for leave voters, but Gatiss is proud to have grown up in the north and in a working-class household: his father was the chief engineer at the psychiatric hospital and his mother was a carer and secretary. “I think my background did me an awful lot of good. There’s a very good line from Doctor Who: ‘Never lose sight of your horizons.’ There’s nothing wrong with coming from one place and moving to another place, but it’s good to know that and honour it. And also to acknowledge its flaws – it doesn’t have to be perfect.”
Brexit upsets him immensely. He speaks of it in irate exclamations and bloody analogies: “Brexit, to me, is like slitting your own throat and going to bed saying: ‘I’ll see how I am in the morning.’ I’m a sickeningly optimistic person and that’s what worries me about how depressed I am about it all. The temptation is to totally disengage because it’s so frightening and debilitating, but if you do that they’ve won.”
The Madness of George III is at Nottingham Playhouse until 24 November

The Medium: Psychological Horror Game for the Next-Gen
This next-generation psychological horror game for the Xbox Series X was unveiled for the very first time by Microsoft at the Xbox 20/20 event. The sound effects in the brief but intriguing trailer were enough to make the hair at the back of your neck stand. Ever since the game, there has been a lot of buzz around The Medium.
Tumblr media
Set to launch this fall, the Xbox Series X is rumoured to be the most powerful gaming console that the world has seen. The new hardware is transforming the way that games are being designed, and the developers are certainly making the most of its capabilities. The developing veteran Bloopers lead game designer Wojciech Piejko, in a brief interview, said, “Nothing is simple, nothing is black and white.” The game is announced to explore the theme of duality through the abilities of a spiritual medium.
The game is set in Krakow, Poland where the lead character of the game, Marianne is a medium who lives in two worlds, one being the real world as we know it and the other, a spirit world. The game keeps introducing new perspectives to challenge your perception as more and more mysteries are revealed with time. The spirit world reflects all of the characters traumatic emotions and inner struggle. A vision of the murder of a child continuously haunts her as she undertakes a journey to a deserted hotel resort. An immersive and disturbingly graphic environment is created as Marianne begins to look for tough answers.
The game’s chilling soundtrack is a result of a collaboration between Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka, two composers well known for their work in Silent Hill. Multiple references have been made connecting The Medium to the iconic Silent Hill series. However, similar as it might be, The Medium is much more than an inspired remake.
A lot of effort has been put into producing a dark and psychologically disturbing environment for the game. The developer has used a lot of means to help immerse the player into their dual worlds, including the involving graphics and the eerie soundtrack. The game features a 4k resolution that enhances the experience and involvement of the player and showcases the nightmare spirit world in all its horrifying glory.
Unlike the multiple cross-generation games that have been showcased so far, The Medium is exclusively a next-gen game. Blooper claims that The Medium is by far the most ambitious project that they have ever undertaken. This being said, they are among the first developers creating for the Xbox Series X. This powerful next-gen gaming console combining their powers with the psychological horror veteran is set to bring The Medium to life without any compromises.
Not much is known about this much-anticipated game as the developers continue to maintain the veil of one of their core game features. With all the astonishing breakthroughs that technology has brought to us in a very brief period of time, the bar is set high, and there is a lot of excitement in the air.

New Releases 8/29/17
Happy New Release Day!
This is the big one folks. The one we’ve all been waiting and training for.
The Lion King, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King 1 1/2 is finally freed from on the vault. I missed picking it up the first time it came out on DVD/Blu-Ray but I am not missing out this time. Unfortunately for our wallets, all three will have to be bought separately. Which is mildly frustrating since Pocahontas, Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, and The Fox and the Hound were all released with their sequels in a combo pack earlier this year. For the same price as what one of these alone will be. Yet I can’t blame Disney for wanting to cash in while they can though they really don’t need to. I’ll definitely be getting the first two later today. I’ve never seen the third and I don’t particularly care to.
In Books --A Song for Quiet (Persons Non Grata #2) by Cassandra Khaw “Deacon James is a wandering bluesman straight from Georgia, a black man with troubles that he can’t escape, and music that won’t let him go. On a train to Arkham, he meets trouble - visions of nightmares, gaping mouths and gasping tendrils, and a madman who calls himself John Persons. According to the stranger, Deacon is carrying a seed in his head, a thing that will destroy the world if he lets it hatch. The mad ravings chase Deacon to his next gig. His saxophone doesn’t call up his audience from their seats, it calls up monstrosities from across dimensions. As Deacon flees, chased by horrors and cultists, he stumbles upon a runaway girl, who is trying to escape her father, and the destiny he has waiting for her. Like Deacon, she carries something deep inside her, something twisted and dangerous. Together, they seek to leave Arkham, only to find the Thousand Young lurking in the woods. The song in Deacon’s head is growing stronger, and soon he won’t be able to ignore it any more.”
I have not read the first book (Hammers on Bone) in this series yet but I don’t think you will necessarily need to in order to read this one. John Persons was the main character in book one but it looks like he’ll be taking a back seat in book two. It was actually this book that made me interested in this series. I love it when music is a form of magic.
--Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor Volume 1 by Tarou Hitsuji and illustrated by Aosa Tsunemi “Lumia and Sisti are mages-in-training at a prestigious magical academy where they hope to be taught by the best of the best. However, when their favorite instructor suddenly retires, his replacement turns out to be a total jerk - he’s idle, incompetent, and always late! Can Lumia help uncover their new teacher’s true potential - and can Sisti still learn magic and unravel the secrets of the mysterious Sky Castle with such a terrible mentor as her guide?”
I watched the anime of this series on Crunchyroll, though I still need to finish the last episode or two. If you ever decide to try it out, give it two episodes. It does a complete mood change near the end of episode two and from the there the show really starts getting good. The volume showed up a little early at my work so I flipped through it at the end of my shift. The end of episode two is where the volume ends. Or maybe it was a little into episode three?
There is some mild fan-service in this series. And the new teacher is a perv. But other than that I really enjoyed the show and I’m excited to read the manga.
--Kigurumi Guardians Volume 1 by Lily Hoshino “Hakka Sasakura’s life it about to turn upside-down. She comes home from a day of admiring her student body president to discover that a mysterious creature resembling a man in an animal suit has taken up residence in her home. What’s more, she has been chosen to work with this strange being to fight off invaders from another dimension and save the world...and she has to kiss him to do so?!”
Really drawn to this series because of the art style. Which this series is written and illustrated by the artist of Penguin Drum. Which then makes me think of Utena and Yurikuma Arashi. The first chapter is available to read on Kodansha’s website. It covers how Hakka and two other students (one girl and one boy (yay more magical boys!)) are recruited and become involved in a short fight with one of the weaker dimensional beings. Though none of them fight in the first chapter, it was set up for them to see that such beings are indeed real and threatening their world.
In Movies --A Journey Through Fairyland “Michael is a gifted oboe player, but his heart’s not in it. He ignores his musical studies to lose himself in the garden, playing for the benefit of his beloved flowers. Michael’s frustrated teacher gives him an ultimatum: Be serious, or leave the music school forever! Despondent, Michael prepares to say goodbye to the garden. But the floral fairy Florence, so bewitched by his music, bestows a powerful magic wand on Michael, and whisks him away. Will Michael’s astonishing adventure with Florence in Fairyland help him rediscover his love of music?”
Really want to see this. It was directed by Masami Hata who also directed Little Nemo Adventures in Storyland and The Sea Prince and the Fire Child. Which I have also never seen. But all three just look amazing. Especially Little Nemo.
--Marmalade Boy Collection 1 “Miki Koishikawa’s parents have always been strange. While deeply caring for their daughter, they’re prone to wasteful spending, oversleeping, and even taking extravagant trips. And their latest trip to Hawaii has brought back something truly outrageous: love. Not for each other, but for a different couple entirely! With her parents planning to divorce and swap partners with the Matsuuras, Miki’s life is turned upside down with a new, highly abnormal family all living together in one house. To top it off, Matsuuras have a son named Yuu exactly Miki’s age, and he’s too gorgeous for words. For better or worse, this is Miki’s life now, but adjusting won’t be easy when jealous rivals and old flames enter the mix!
Collection 1 includes episodes 1-38 of this classic shoujo series. I have never seen this series but two of my friends are very excited for this re-release. At first I thought this would be a more drama shoujo series but after a second thought I realized that it is more of a romantic comedy. After all, with both families under the same roof but staying with the others spouse there is sure to be a lot of funny, awkward situations.
--The Nutcracker Fantasy “After a young girl, Clara, receives a nutcracker from her enigmatic Uncle Drosselmayer, she finds that her precious present is stolen by thieving rats led by Mauslynx, the double-headed rat queen. To win it back, Clara enters a surreal land through her family’s grandfather clock. One of her stops is the Kingdom of Dolls, where she finds the king grieving over his cursed, eternally-asleep daughter, Princess Mary, a doppelganger for Clara herself. She and Franz, the captain of the guards and Mary’s suitor, infiltrate the army of rats in a desperate attempt to dethrone the despot!”
A stop-motion film from 1979 made with dolls. It reminds me of the classic Christmas films of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Year Without Santa Claus, and so on. Which I watch every year so this title would be a nice addition to add to my yearly movies. Also, film wise, it looks very impressive. I looked up a trailer on YouTube and it has some pretty great camerawork that I don’t think I’ve seen in other stop-motion films of that era.
Those are my top picks for this week. Other great titles are also coming out today like Gotham S3 and Ushio and Tora (the new series). What is everyone most excited for?

Seriously, who’s Billy?
I didn't want to write about my feelings or interpretations towards the show cause it takes me a lot of time, but I am going to do it anyway because I need to get rid off them and because Billy needs some support.
I haven‘t read almost any meta this days and maybe I am repeating something that has been writen before. So, sorry if I discusse about something that’s been discussed before. Also, I want to thank to all the people who write their opinion about the show because I know that my headwanks wouldn’t be so fucking dense if I hadn’t read your headwanks or analysis before, so thank you for that, and as always, make yourself comfortable, this is going to be long...
These past  months (ever since I started on Tumblr) I've wrote about what I expected to happen in this season. As I told in some other post, I didn't care if I was right or wrong, cause I love being mind-fucked, but as I see, there are some things that I was right about.
I knew that Billy was going to be countering Flint the way he does; I knew that Flint (and the audience) was going to be shocked about Billy's changes; I knew that their interactions were not going to be like before (Flint teasing Billy and Billy being manipulated by Flint); and I knew that Silver or Madi were going to be questioning this relationship. I also intuid that the prom image where Flint and Billy are in a room with Maddi and Jacob was a pre-conversation of the "trailer scene" (AKA when Flint and Billy fight) and that maybe Flint was warning Billy about a dangerous plan.
I don't want to be throwing flowers to myself about it, cause of course I was wrong in lots of other things. But what I want to say is that I am not surprised by Blint's interactions, I am excited by them and I believe that we might have some Blint hope (I know I'm being optimistic, but that's what I feel, I can't help it)
It seems that everyone is blaming Billy (in the show and in this fandom) for everything that's happening, and for all the nonsense that's going on throughout the chapters and Blint's interactions (and of course in Billy's mind).
People doesn't understand why Billy is acting the way he does, or why Flint is not mad at him at all (well of course he was mad at him when they meet in the beach after losing Silver, but that was not Billy's fault).
And all I can say is that all this nonsense only supports my main theory about Blint: What it is not shown speaks louder than what it is shown. I mean, everybody is like: “Billy, what the fuck???”  and I’m like: “Yeah baby show Flint (and the audience)  WHO YOU REALLY ARE!”  cause this situation between this two doesn’t make sense!! And people are freaking out, and I’m excited cause this is the fucking elephant in the room, the fucking walrus in the ship, the fucking eye-fuck in the middle of the chaos of a fight (AKA 4x03)!
Their relationship’s being so subtle, that now I feel like it’s exploding in our fucking faces.
I asked my boyfriend about his opinion about the evolution and changes in Blint's interactions (he knows I am a total trash about this two and he loves it, and though he doesn't see Blint and he just sees "pirates doing pirates things in a pirate show", he loves Billy's expressions when he's with Flint, and he even imitates him to make me laugh) and this is what he doesn't understand: the time that has passed between season 3 and 4. He can understand Billy's decissions and his behave if there was like 1 or 2 years in between seasons, cause he thinks that all what Billy has achieve (keeping the resitence in line, changing plans, maintining the crew or recruiting new members and them being so loyal to him...) is massive, and being far from both Flint and Silver for so long gives him more confidance about himself. He doesn't understand his behaviour, or Flint's and Silver's behaviour, if there was very little time between seasons, like, “Billy last month you were totally loyal to Flint and you wanted to support him, and keep him saved and liberate Vane, and now you’ve became into this massive leader who is done with Flint? Why?”
I think it's interesting this question and all what Billy has achieved until now. I mean, we know we can't get to see everything that's happened between seasons, but we all know what Billy's done to create the legend of Long John Silver.
And in my opinion, if it wasn’t for Billy, there wouldn't be John Silver nor Long John Silver... (I know I'm going to be hated by this, but I have to say and explain this, and believe it or not, I really like Silver):
-If Billy hadn’t created the legend of Long John Silver, people wouldn’t be afraid of him.
Billy wrote (with the rest of his writing club) the legend of LJS. He started using the “black spots”, then in (I think) the first episode he tells Flint the black spots didn’t work anymore and that they had to change plans. And in 4X04 when Flint is giving orders to another captain at the gobernator’s house and he doesn’t obey him, Silver comes, and only has to look at him in his eyes to make him obey. This is only because Billy and his men have been fighting in his name, making everyone in Nassau afraid of him, giving him the power of controlling peoples minds and keeping that fear in line.
Ok, you can tell me that people is afraid of him not only because of the legend Billy created, but because before, in 3x07, Silver’s walks into the Guthrie’s like a boss and also stomps Dufresne’s head. Yeah, that what badass, and amazing!! He became LJS in that moment, and people right from that moment stars to speak about him. All of this is true, but it only leads me to the next afirmation.
-If Billy hadn’t suggest changing the plans to recruit pirates in Nassau and didn’t think of Silver as the one going there, Silver wouldn’t have stomped Dufresne’s head.
At first, Flint’s plan is to go to the tabern with Billy and recruit more men. But then Billy tells him his plan ain’t gonna work, and suggests that Silver’s presence would give more impact than the ghost himself (AKA Flint, foreshadowing T.I.’s Flint’s ghost) before the astonished look of the other people in the room. And Flint obeys... just in the same way Eleanor suggests Rogers that Hornigold presence in the beach would make the pirates more comfortable with the pardons, and Rogers obeys... (relationship’s paralell arcs?)
So yeah, we have to thank Billy for sending Silver to the Guthrie’s and for creating the lengend. Cause Silver at that time was being the quartermaster of the Walrus and was trying to learn fast in order to his crew didn't see him as someone who doesn’t know how to deal with his role. I love Silver’s character’s arc and the way he has become what he’s now, but mostly how he became the quartermaster of the Walrus. Is after losing his leg (during Charlestown) that all the crew is supporting him and wanting him as quartermaster. But was that the real fate of Silver in that episode? Let me suggest you this:
-If Billy (and his brothers) hadn’t enter the cabin of the “Fucking War-Ship” while Vane’s crew was torturing Silver in order to know about the Urca’s gold, Silver would have died.
In that chapter we can see how Vane’s crew is thirsty of blood, and after Vane’s leaving, Silver’s accomplice in the Urca’s gold secret tells someone about it. Then they take Silver from Billy’s side not noticing that someone (maybe Billy? or any other) has taken their keys.
They show us how unmerciful Vane’s crew is when they shoot Silver’s accomplice in front of him, and they torture him. When Billy and the crew arrives, Dc.Hollowell says that he’s seen people die before with the same injuries as him, and that he must get his leg cut in order to survive. So yeah, Billy and his men saved his life. But was this his fate?
Before the crew arrived and saved him, Silver was inside a trap that he himself created. He stole the page and the gold from Flint twice! And then he is fucked by his accomplice when he tells someone about the gold in order to save their lifes! He’s trapped in his own lie! He can’t say what he knows about the gold, cause in one hand Vane’s crew will take every inch of it, and in the other hand if his own crew and his captain knew that he stole (again) the Urca’s gold, they would kill him! So his only destiny is to shut his mouth and maybe die keeping his secret.
But this is not happening cause the crew arrives at time. Also Silver’s been gaining points in the crew. He became a very wanted crew member and has gained the respect of his men. He has started using the “shame” theme with his brothers in order to keep them in line and under controll. Flint listens to him and tells him his thoughts as we are having all his flashbacks about his past and his love life until...
Wait, who’s back? Is that Billy? Yeah! Billy appears again after all those flashback. He appears with the pardons (so related to Flint and Hamilton’s plans) and Silver is what? Wanted by the crew? That can not be possible, right Randall? “Well, we like him...”. But why has Silver became wanted by the crew and trusted by his captain, if some chapters before he was just a fucking pain in the ass?? Well here we have another afirmation:
-If Billy hadn’t “died” Silver wouldn’t have become so important for the Walrus (nor quartermaster).
Remember who was the Walrus’ quartermaster in 1x06 and had to “die” when he discovered a letter from his captain’s “puritan woman who shares his love of books”? Yeah, Billy (so fucking foreshadowing).
Billy was the quartermaster of the ship once Gates becomes the captain of the Ranger. The morning of his second day as quartermaster (1x05) he has a very intense and kinda horny conversation with his captain. They’re talking about their new roles, they’re talking about chasing the Andromache and dancing the dance (I love that quote)...
They’re alone at last, and Billy is in charge. We can see what a natural leader he is. He has conviced his brothers, and even Dufresne about the attacking the Andromache, just as Flint told him to do.
When Flint gets to know about the letter, he ask about it to Billy. But why does he asks him about it while they’re trying to loose the ropes in the middle of a chase? Why couldn’t they speak about it another time? Because they can’t have a proper time to speak to each other. And when they have it, they get so close to each other, and they act so flirty with each other, that is obvious that they need an external element to make them come back to reality (cockblockers...). It’s imposible for them to have a proper conversation because they are both surronded by sexual tension (and that’s why I think Billy is acting so cocky and stupidly with Flint in this season, cause he has to prove himself that he’s not longer that bosun, that he’s not going to be afraid of him anymore and that he can also be as flirty as Flint with other men, why not? he has to be his equal!).
And where is Silver meanwhile?? Well, he is chained to Randall and a chair in Eleanor’s room being the little shit he is. Until Eleanor and Anne plan the attack to kill Max’s rapists and they need Silver to collaborate with them. Then Silver becomes untouchable to Flint, and has Eleanor’s support.
Billy’s death is the motor of the mutiny against Flint. Even Gates is against him, and he tells it to Flint: “Billy was not dispendable to me”. And when Flint kills Gates because of it and Silver finds it out, he supports Flint and becomes his shadow. But this is only possible cause Billy’s “dead”! When Flint is about to go to the Spanish War-Ship, he asks volunteers, and Silver offers himself (thinking that they are going to escape) and Flint gives him his best line: “you shit!”. I’m sure that if Billy was in that scene he would had gone with Flint (and that’s what Flint really wanted, to have Billy by his side).
So yeah! Billy’s death is the fucking motor of the mutiny, but also of the disclosure of Flint’s backstory with Thomas and Miranda. When he comes back home and yells at Miranda we (the audience) have to assume that Miranda knows Billy because she doesn’t bother to ask about him. They talk about their past life, about moving on, about England calling Flint a monster, and about a personal revenge.
We have the flashbacks, and what?!?! Thomas Hamilton in just exactly as Billy Bones?! He’s tall, blond, blue eyed, educated... the similarity is undenyable. And then when the flashbacks end, Billy comes back to his captain, supporting him, and facing everyone who’s thinking about betraying Flint?? Really Black Sails?? Really?
Yes!
They are only adding plots to this relationship just to release it at the end of the show.
But how, if Billy is against Flint and wants, not very subtly, to kill him?
Well, Billy’s not trying to kill Flint. They fought, yes, but just because that moment was very critical for Billy. He was trying to play his role as the leader, acting confident in front of his men, and in front of his crush (or object of obsession)! Seriously, that’s a lot of pressure, and when he has Flint’s crew pointing at him while Flint’s giving one of his fucking speaches, he has enough. He’s being underestimated by everyone! And he’s the only one who’s beeing constructing Long John Silver’s legend and also influencing Flint’s story arc all the fucking time (Silver also helped and I’m grateful to him for that)!!
And Flint is unable to see him! He is blinded by Silver’s development, by their partnership (I’m sure it reminds him of what he had with Thomas), by his curls and smile... can’t see Billy for what he is. His fucking truest partner. And Miranda warned him in the dream: “you can’t see it. can you? You’re not alone”. When Flint looks at Madi and Silver kissing when they reunite, I think it’s kinda bitter-sweet for him cause it reminds him of what he has not. Love. He’s alone. Or maybe not...
Cause WHO’S BILLY but a principal kinda secondary character? Is he really important for the show? Why does it seem that Season4 Billy is another Billy, and not the cinamon roll anymore? Because Flint (and the audience) have to see him just as what he really is. A mighty man who’s always making the fucking dirty work (the ones that look kinda secondary and kinda obvious) and who’s done with everyone (and with one person in particular) and has to prove that he’s the right one.
Seriously, am I the only one who thinks that Toby Stephens was referring to Billy Bones as the character’s who is in the background and who ends up being loyal to him? Really? Am I being so optimistic? Well, Billy Bones is not a background character (well, maybe al little bit until now...) but the relationship between this two is not as evident as the one Flint has with Silver. So, he could also be talking about their background relationship... who knows..
But now that Thomas was mentioned in the last episode, I can’t really tell if Billy’s going to be that person, and if Flint-Thomas end game happens, it’s alright with me, I mean, I buy it. But what about Billy? What abouttheir relationship’s plot? About their interactions and influences in each others’ characters’ plots? And about all that subtle conversations about their relationship? Is that what it is in the background, as Toby said?
Cause as I see it,  and as I explained in the ropes know and saved by the sails about 1x05 interactions, right now they are dancing the fucking dance!!! They are playing the roles!! Cause the battle's begun!! And they still have hope to sight the Andromache!!!
The other day I realized that the Andromache has a very interesting anagram: hand romance, which means a handjob, a wank, a moment alone with your hand... yeah the act of masturbation!! They are chasing the Andromache (hand romance) in order to take their guns (cof, cof)  in 1x05, with all that horny conversation in the morning, and the "I think she can take it" (are you talking about yourself Billy?), and Logan’s question: "If we can shoot at her, and we can't get close to her, how do we board her?" and Billy's answer: "We go straight at her" (Are you guys talking about the hand romance?? While Billy is showing all his goods to Flint, and the latter can't help starring at him from behind??) Is Black Sails finally going to use all this scenes and interactions for the characters' good or not??
Are they gonna have the balls to do it?
Or am I seeing too much into this show and into these two characters?(which is possibly the case)
Thank you for reading everything until this point, and sorry if I explained myself in a messy way, but when it comes to this two I end up having a verbal diarrhea that I have to translate into posts. So thank you if you enjoyed it!
All kind of comments are welcomed, disagreements included!

With this book you get the complete plan all in one place saving you hundreds of hours of research. There is no need to scour the Internet in search of answers only to find very questionable solutions from people you don’t know. Every single chapter in this book will save you hundreds of dollars a year in travel and living costs. Bookmark this page using this button so you can find this site again later. You may not have the time to read it all right now. I have perfected the road trip by making it possible to do it forever, and do it cheaply. You can too. When you Vanabode you can stay for weeks at a time in astonishing places. I show folks how we afford both the time and the money to camp and explore for months at a time. This makes a huge difference in your romantic life too. Image above is where we played for a while on the coast of Washington. Here you find surreal landscapes of lush forest, fresh water streams and rivers flowing right into the ocean with a full range of beachside sealife. My friends and family have asked us for over 10 years now “How do you guys get to travel so much when you are only 38 years old? (we are in our mid 40’s now) How do you pay for it when you don’t have jobs or savings? Can you help us do it too?” Sure! Honestly, I would have done it sooner but it was hard for me to get motivated to write a 120+ page book and stuff it full of pictures, when we were out surfing Malibu Beach one week and biking San Francisco or catching a world class show in Vegas the next. “Mr. Odom really gets you to take a look at your life, and then just when you think you are going to be depressed, he shows you how to have it all. . . even on a budget that seems impossible” Charlie Stevens born in Huntsville Alabama Click to order your own copy of “Vanabode” otherwise more reviews and information follow. When I bought Vanabode I was very depressed and I thought my wife was leaving me for sure. When I showed her the plans you outline she changed her mind and broke down in tears and said “Lets go together, please, please, don’t you see I just want to spend time with you. I am sick of all the stress that is tearing us apart. I wanted to leave THIS LIFE that has become such a grind, not leave YOU!”, anonymous from Toledo “Intelligent insight coupled with a lot of one-of-a-kind information. . .” pro book reviewer “I don’t care what kind of vehicle you use to see America, get this book. He contrasts all kinds of living and traveling strategies from being homeless to being rich, from tractor trailers to backpacking, from houseboats to van camping. You will get the compete picture and when you’re done you may be as convinced as I am (and as he is) that this Vanaboding is by far the greatest way to do it all” Sam Stout in Baja Mexico “If you want to go anywhere for more than 2 weeks at a time, then you should certainly buy this book” Peter Arkins, Washington National parks represent a treasure that we were astonished to find were frequented by foreigners more often than by U.S. citizens. When I asked my friends why they never went they all said the same thing. They were too far away and they could never get enough time off work to go. Vanabode solves these problems first. The book demonstrates how to make both the time and the money to visit these extraordinary national gems for months at a time. With this masterful book and proposed new way of life that the author calls Vanabode you can actually experience the greatest sights in the world from the safest country, cheaply and easily by van. No planes, trains, or buses needed.” Charles Saunders “I had a lot of legitimate “excuses” why I could not travel. He covers all of them in this book. I put his solutions to work and we have been camping in Utah for 6 weeks now. The kids are fine, the bills are paid, and we are eating better than ever. Fantastic!” Anthony & Margaret Thomason – Miami Wikipedia’s definition of a “disruptive technology” or “disruptive innovation” describes Vanabode precisely; innovations that improve a product or service in ways that the market does not expect, typically by being lower priced or making something for everyone that was previously only available to the rich. This is exactly what I have been doing for 20 years, trying to earn enough money to buy our family a fun life. Thank you so much for clarifying this and helping me on my way to finally living a fun life. The resources and advice you provide in your book are priceless, at least for me they are.” Name withheld Right: Our rabbit bunny Bugsy traveled over 50,000 miles with us over 8 years and has seen a lot of action for such a little guy.
