As a Japanese I know Zoro's notorious line "You're asking the wrong guy" is supposed to represent his bushido(武士道) spirit in which having interest in romance is regarded naive and unprofessional, but the fan(girl) me is 200% onboard with the Tumblr interpretation of "Oh he's 🌈✨"
'funky bar. mirror ball island." "i would never patronize that type of establishment." no fr are they talking about a gay bar. did zoro fuck the evil butler
I loved that scene. Mostly because of Mihawk, but also because it was a good way to have Krieg appear in the story and to nod at his original encounter with Mihawk, while keeping him out of the Baratie Arc.
I found the Live Action very good at getting little nods toward characters who don't appear in the story ("and where was the dancing lion?" and "funky bar, mirror ball island?" immediately stood out to me)
I'm having complicated emotions (though mostly giggling madly) about the fact that people are recommending The Terror and Black Sails to Our Flag Means Death fans purely based on them being Age of Sail series with "queer representation". Like... sure, I guess? But I'm not sure if serious-as-a-heart-attack horror or drama series are what OFMD fans are looking for.
HOWEVER.
What if I told you there is another pirate show out there with a lighthearted tone, colorful quasi-Age-of-Sail setting, and plot centered around a lovable crew of misfits creating a found family on a pirate ship?
Our Flag Means Death fans looking for a new boat media obsession, I think Netflix's One Piece may be the show you're looking for. Have fun, and I'll see you all at Funky Bar on Mirror Ball Island.
Thinking about OPLA Zoro and how they made it impossible for this version to beat the gay allegations, just as much as the others, like??
The whole scene with Helmeppo- that guy was definitely expecting something else when he said he’d do « much worse »
Just how he generally interacts with men the whole series actually
The « Have we met before? you look familiar » « highly doubtful, sir » « Funky bar. Mirror Ball Island? » *posh gay scoff*« Funky bar ?? » with Kuro
«You’re asking the wrong guy » HES GAY USOPP
I could go on but I will never not find it hilarious that by making Zoro a « bushido » type character that doesn’t show interest in women, Oda has accidentally created the most gay coded man ever
I really hope opla fans know that Mirror Ball Island is in the manga and has a whole animated short dedicated to it. Like, it's an island known for their dance contests. Zoro recognizing Kuro is so funny bc it means one or both of them were there to get funky, which is honestly just as wild as seeing each other at a gay bar. Either way, those quirked up boys were busting it down sexual style.
One Piece Live Action had detailed shots of the map of the East Blue over the end credits, which most people probably didn't see because Netflix automatically starts the next episode. So here are some screenshots:
Mt. Corvo!!
We start here, and each episode zooms out until at the end of the final episode, we see the full East Blue with a glimpse of the Grand Line.
ITS THE FUNKY BAR ON MIRROR BALL ISLAND, i cant believe it was actually a reference from the manga. i was just laying in bed reading and this caught me off guard.
