The gamer identity as in people identifying their personhood as being gamers, a thing that most notably came about during the ganergate era (altho a bit before that also) and into modern day is something pushed and manufactured by corporations to reduce our personality and identity to the products we consume.

Making people tie their identity to a product is a good way to keep them hooked on, make them defenders of brands and open cash cows because spending money on games or movies or apple phones isnt a hobby but its who you are.

Dont make your identity corporate consumption.
