@moonbeam-dragon So. Let’s talk eyes! I know I saw before that Kade’s eyes are slightly blue in the show but it’s been a while since I looked him that closely in the eye, which is why I defaulted to brown eyes. Thanks for reminding me!

This screenshot from S4 EP11 does a decent job of showing Kade, Cody, and Dani’s eyes.

Kade’s look blue, Cody’s a warm brown, Dani’s black but you could argue that in real life they could be a very dark brown.

Looking at this screenshot closely, and of some different eye images, this is what I personally think their eye colors would probably look like.

I need to keep reminding myself that I did so much to keep her comfortable and alive for long enough for my family to return and also that nothing I could have done would have kept her alive so I can't keep dwelling on it like I didn't do enough. I did so much. I carried her everywhere. I helped her use the bathroom. I constantly was wiping the brown crusty drool off her paws and the crud that kept building in her eyes to give her some feeling of cleanliness and comfort. I stuck an IV in her (that I got from the vet, not just, like, on my own) once a day to keep her hydrated. like even though I was scrambling to finish an animation and get work done I put aside so much time and effort and love for her. I watched her like a hawk for the whole week, dealing with this on my own (it's no one's fault, just really bad timing, everything just happened to line up perfectly for the perfect shitstorm), just to make sure she didn't collapse and hurt herself. I did enough :( it wasn't enough but nothing would have been

Incorrect breed guesses, Cat edition:

Everyone thinks Rebel is a Bengal or Bengal cross. They don't believe me when I say she is your typical cat. Shorthair variety, brown spotted tabby in color. Her spots look nothing like Bengal spots.

She doesn't even have a breed...just a type.

Any time a bird is in captivity of any kind without fail there’s someone who shows up and goes ‘:( so sad, it should be FREE!’ Which, I’m very aware of the problems with cagebirds, but someone does this every time including when the bird in question is very clearly a genetic freak of some sort. For example, a rescue aviary near me used to have a lovely fantail dove, who according to volunteers was extremely friendly and loved cuddles and sitting on people’s heads. She’s passed away now, sadly, but on the aviary facebook there’s an old video of her and someone has put one of those comments along the lines of she should be in the wild. But she was so visibly a product of human selective breeding it was unreal. She had a huge, bulgy chest and her neck was bent so far back that the resting position of her head was on her back. If her eyes weren’t on the sides of her head she wouldn’t have been able to see over her own chest. Not all fantail doves look like this, but this one was so extreme looking that they had a little sign on the aviary reassuring people she was alright. I just wondered where exactly this commenter imagined she would belong if all the birds in the aviary were released into the wild and somehow back into their ideal habitats. There’s nowhere in the world outside of in the care of humans where a bird looking like that would be remotely ok.

#i'm going to start saying 'oh how sad #it should be FREE :( ' when i see a dog #honestly i miss this sweet dove so much #you may wonder what her quality of life was like and tbh all signs pointed to 'fine' #pigeon fanciers and breeders of some poultry like the chickens with vestigial wings on their feet and those weird long tall ducks #get less scrutiny than dog breeders re health problems but also we are all just used to regularly encountering dogs that are genetic messes #with a bird it's a bit of a shock at first #but it's worth also remembering that the farm animals we eat are also genetic freaks #my only point really is that people are very very weird about birds in captivity of any kind #even a rescue aviary- they have 2 incidents in the past 20 years of people realeasing all the birds and then guess what they died #because most are tropical species and need the heater #they are as happy as possible in that aviary i think #many common cagebird species are flock birds and in this aviary they have their flock and social interaction #it's big enough for flying and they have loads of enrichment and can make as much noise as they want as it's in a big park #in a perfect world no one would breed genetic freak animals and there wouldn't be tonens of uncared for cagebirds that need homes #but we don't live in that world #forgot to say that the reason i say the dove's quality of life was probably fine was because of her behaviour and feather condition

notes about my dragons and their genetics because that is interesting to me (making things up is my passion)

Ingo and Emmet are not identical twins! which is obvious because one of them is a standard snow and the other is an onyx, right? well actually, not at all. visually, yeah, Ingo looks like an onyx but he isn't, he's genetically a melanistic snow. now usually, melanistic snows turn out grey or even navy blue in colour, but Ingo popped out with the blackest fur i've ever seen on a dragon that wasn't pure onyx. which is weird because he and Emmet hatched from the same egg. here comes my tinfoil hat territory because i don't know what their parents were, i think they both carried the allele for melanism because it's recessive in dragons but presented as pure snows, so the were Ss. this led to Emmet recieving either SS genes (making him pure snow) or Ss genes (making him a carrier for melanism without presenting as such) and Ingo recieving ss genes, making him visibly melanistic. they aren't identical so this is definitely possible. (unless Ingo had a random gene mutation that gave him melanism outside of parents genetics, which would still result in them being fraternal twins instead of identical) Ingo and Emmet came from breeders (who could verify that Ingo is a snow because she showed me the video of him and Emmet hatching)

cucumber isn't a pure sage, either. their mama was a rose dragon and, presumably, their papa was a sage. there aren't any funny genes in roses or sages that make them present funny so cucumber has normal genes. they have the rose allele in them but the sage one is dominant, in the same way that i carry an allele for blonde hair (recessive) but the brown hair one is dominant so it wins by default. they came from a different breeder to the twins who was not very good at their job and had failed to notice that their own pet rose had gotten very friendly with the sage they owned. well they had a really runty pup that needed hand-rearing (which i absolutely did not trust them to do) and so i ended up with a very small sage-rose who is actually older than all of my others by kind of a lot

tax evasion? pure dexter. there was never a purer dexter in existence. it's a recessive allele so there is absolutely no way there's anything else in him. he was a rescue that had been spotted slinking around the back of a bookshop i used to frequent who kept shredding the cardboard boxes they had to throw away. well i trapped him in one and took him home cause he was a lil matted and smelly so clearly nobody else was coming for him. he warmed up right away and he leaves the house with me sometimes cause he's the most used to being out there but he's definitely a lapdragon. all he wants is snooze and cuddle. makes me wonder who owned him before me and why they would leave him out there. their loss, he's my special boy now
