I'd like to very much thank literallyn01imp0rtant for suggesting a bevvy of Homestuck rips for me to cover, but also apologize in advance - despite being a Tumblr user and overall internet dweller, I'm actually still very unfamiliar with the series. Not that I'm disinterested, far from it - if anything, the recent influx in new rips from the series has only made me more interested in getting into the series now in 2024. But even watching from a distance, it's been fascinating to see Homestuck's presence on SiIvaGunner from the early years to now - with Viva La LOWAS leading the charge for a new age of rips of the series.
See, while the channel was starting out in the early Seasons, there was a real sort of commitment to only ripping video games on the channel. That is still something that is *mostly* adhered to nowadays - for instance, rips like A Day In The Snow or Remember when this song was the one related to toilets? will still use the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games as sources despite the songs featured obviously not originating there. But the same also applied to Homestuck, as most of the franchise's music used for rips were assigned to the official, episodic, now-effectively-cancelled Homestuck adventure game, HiveSwap. Like it was for me, it was likely a bit confusing for those out of the loop - unless you gave the key art's main characters a second look, the name and artwork don't really jump out as you as "Homestuck" right away. But now with HiveSwap effectively dead in the water, and SiIvaGunner's adherence to only ripping "real" games being far looser, a change occurred on October 24th 2023 - "retconning" all Homestuck rips to have been part of a series-specific playlist. There was even a cool little announcement made that provided a lore-accurate reason to the change having been done, referencing both Homestuck itself and the early parts of SiIva Season 2 - that's the kind of channel-and-lore harmony that I raved so much about in Haltmanna feat. Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20.
There's a lot to love about the original Doctor theme from Homestuck, with a magical sound eerie reminiscent of Cave Story (which was confirmed as being a major influence to it by the track's late composer). With Viva La LOWAS being made six years and a month after the fact, I can't exactly say it was made in tribute to her passing - yet arranging Viva La Vida of all tracks in this melancholy chiptune sound still just feels so befitting. The combination fits like a glove throughout the whole arrangement and gives the rip an equal amount of hope and hopelessness, a sense of bittersweet acceptance, and many more emotions that the original Viva La Vida already instilled into people way back when. As a huge fan of both the song itself and of Cave Story's music (see Balcony Fusion Collab), Viva La LOWAS hits hard for me even without the context Homestuck itself provides for it. The fact that this rip led the way for all future Homestuck rips to follow, free from HiveSwap's shackles and finally able to champion Homestuck itself, only amplifies those feelings. And so this elegantly simple arrangement is able to mean so much at once despite it all.
Here's to more Homestuck, and here's to me one day finally reading it.

My dearest followers, all 32 (how) of you, I've gathered you here to make a special announcement. Most of you, I assume, are with me because of my respects paid to a legendary mangaka. Or alternatively a post relating to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. As some of you may have noticed though, I often do not talk about things made by good authors, especially today. For today is 4/13, and gentlemen, I LOVE Homestuck. I love the beta kids, I love programmer humor, I love Sburb, I love poking fun at game mechanics, I love stupid bullshit teenage drama (shut up alpha kids I'm not talking about you), I love self-fulfilling prophecies and bootstrap paradoxes, I love the way seeing an [S] next to an arrow would surprise you, I love clicking on a pesterlog and seeing the scroll bar disintegrate, I fucking love plot beats changing the UI of the website itself I fucking love LUDOOOOO, I love Toby Foxe's music, I love Michael Bowman's music, I love George Buzinkai's music, I love Mark Hadley's music, I love that I could just keep listing off music credits holy shit the talent was crazy, I even love Andrew Hussie's art and writing for like 70% of Homestuck, maybe even 77%. Homestuck may not be PEAK FICTION like Dragon Ball, or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, or Kamen Rider Ryuki, or Godzilla Minus-One, or Limbus Company Canto VI The Heartbreaking, or Halo 2, etc. But I will defend that it is unironically good and I still love it, maybe even the community as well. Happy 4/13.

where do the claims that hussie hates where do the claims that hussie hates trans women, didnt help buzinkai when she went homeless and wrote the epilogue to purposefully alienate transfems from the comic come from and is there any substance to them?
Hoo boy.
The idea that Hussie hates transfems and that the Epilogues were made to alienate transfems is literally just a false and hateful reaction to the shock of the Epilogues, that stems from people... Liking the popular Transfem Roxy Headcanon and finding it impossible to accept that someone else could have Any Sort Of Different Headcanon, paired with exaggerations of how Jade is presented in the Epilogues, and ignoring. You know. The Actual Content in the Epilogues, and the members of the team?
Also definitely helped by the fact June was talked about in the Toblerone Wish, but people were too fucking impatient and putting pressure on the Team to Introduce Her Now Now Now, despite they already heavily alluded in HS^2 to her and it's irrefutable she's going that route?
There has also been talk about Vriska being trans is 'bad representation' because Vriska's a bad bad person, but like. First of all. Lmao. But also second of all, this ignores... Kate Mitchell... Writing Vriska... Like that... Because she herself... Is also trans... Like, she related to, and mirrored some stuff onto Vriska. But because Vriska, and Kate too, are 'controversial figures', this is taken as more 'jabs to the trans community'.
It's the community pitting itself against each other and eating itself alive out of a virulent reaction to the Epilogues and HS^2, and a complete inability to like, 1) Critically Think About This Stuff in the Broader Context, and 2) See ANYTHING in the Epilogues in ANY positive light at all.
Epilogues = Bad. Irredeemably bad. So if there's trans rep? It HAS to be offensive in some way. If there's a character doing something? IT HAS to be butchering it. And so, since post-canon deals with trans stuff a lot more overtly than anything HS Canon ever did, because the team was full of Also Trans and Enby People, and Hussie Themself Is Fucking Enby, this exploration of genderstuff was not given the benefit of being anything other than Virulently Hateful, by people who, themselves, Are Virulently Hateful, and projecting upon the work.
As for Buzinkai, I vaguely remember when she died. There was little going around about it but a bit of a Tumblr post as an obituary, and a reblog adding that she was trans, but hadn't gotten the chance to be fully out, and it wasn't too well known. Hell, some people use 'Usagi' for her, as usagi-nezumi was her online username, but as far as I can tell she never actually listed a name for herself other than George Buzinkai, probably to do with the fact, again, she wasn't fully out and never got the chance to properly open up and transition more fully, and even friends and family that seemed pretty supportive of her and close to her also used that name.
So I am not sure what was going on with Hussie and/or WP at the time any of this happened, I know not their relationship, and, as the only sources I could find saying that they never did anything, was an angry twitter post, and looking around I ended up also finding a link to Kiwifarms, so I am going to say the information I have on what may or may not have been going on there may as well be 0, and entirely speculative, but... I think to use Buzinkai as 'proof' that 'Hussie doesn't care about trans women', is fucking scummy and using the death of a trans woman who never got to properly transition in discourse.

So hey another newspost by the HS:BC team (and by that I mean James Roach) and not much is coming from it. Mainly the bug thing is I think James is trying to get old musicians for the Homestuck team to make a new music album for HSBC.
He does also mention the next update. He says “it’s a doozy, there’s gonna be a lot of words” to the best of my ability. And I’m nervous about that. Act 6 was absolutely merciless with the worddumping it did. It has to be an Ult Dirk and Rosebot update.
I think it's about the permission to put the songs in the vinyl update. Like if Doctor track does get put on there, do they have permission from people or family members that were close with George Buzinkai? Considering how Hussie disrespected the musician, I wouldn't be surprised if relatives are hesitant to be with someone that worked under him. Most of the other musicians are either working on other projects (ex: Toby Fox) or are probably long gone in contacts. Since the update is in mid-month as well, we can guess it would be around before or after Valentine's Day. If it's not just wordswordswords exposition going on, something tells me it may also center around the theme of love. Maybe it is something related to Davekat, Roxygen, or Johnrezi. Where one both characters act all romantic and say lots of stuff to comfort the other in paragraphs before having a kiss. I mean, it was like that too for the Davekat kiss in the laundry. Two guys feeling sorry about themselves before making out with each other. Like yeah, Karkat admits all his friends are dead and he should have done better. Then goes on to kiss Dave. Because that's how you do self improvement. Curious who will be hosting for the merch. Is it Topatoco or Fangamer? Will we get Scalemate plushies again? Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff dakimakura like the ones from ForFansByFans? Alpha Kids figures? The cursed Vriska plushie?

I love Hotland and I love Another Medium, the area soundtrack, but I do wonder how many people know that
1) Part of Another Medium was taken from an unused song Toby Fox made for Homestuck, Patient, which is a tribute to the late George Buzinkai's Doctor, probably one if not The most well known homestuck song
2) its title is also a homestuck reference. Hotland itself could also very well be inspired by lohac, one of the homestuck mediums

Remix of George Buzinkai's "Doctor" with an intro of Kevin Regamey's "Showtime" as a tribute to the late George Buzinkai. May they rest in peace, their music really inspired me to keep writing. Cover art is spilled calligraphy ink and cut out construction paper, character design from Andrew Hussie's Homestuck. Music written with Musescore.

Yesterday morning, George Buzinkai, known for his contributions to the Homestuck music team, passed away. I’d never spoken to the man, but I feel like I should say a few words regardless.
He wasn’t the most active member of the music team, but the songs he did contribute were, without question, some of the best. Explore and Doctor both helped make two of Homestuck’s early flash pages truly iconic, and the effect these songs had on the overall sound of Homestuck can’t be overstated.
Homestuck played a big part in teaching me how to enjoy music, and George was right at the forefront of that. The contemplative, slightly melancholy and slightly magical tone of his music always knew how to draw emotion from me, and always will.
Thank you, George Buzinkai.

Possible songs for Best of Homestuck Vinyl Tracks
From the recent news update, James Roach says there is talks of physical Homestuck music media in form of a vinyl. I can see the Toby Fox songs being easily part of it. But how will they go about for tracks like Doctor, made by the late George Buzinkai. An early classic piece like this has to be there if the Homestuck vinyl track is possible. Andrew Hussie and WhatPumpkin already done dirty to her after her death and curious if James and the HS:BC would be any better giving respects to her.
