Absolutely, I am very eager to talk about it! This is gonna be long tho haha. tw for addiction and self-harm

Shadowheart grew up in a relatively normal, casually Catholic family, but shes always had shit going on. Clinically depressed, and she definitely has a personality disorder, probs BPD, defs not diagnosed because its the 90's and shes masking HEAVY. Even as a kid she was pretty into catholicism though, and liked Christ and his weird more-than-human self sacrificial vibes.

At 13 while in boarding school she got lured into a cult (where she was given her name). This was a mix of older girls and a few much older people outside the boarding school, all women. They were a political cult of feminist seperatists, but also had a layer of idiosyncratic spiritualism originating entirely from the cult leader Shar (real name Sharon). Edgy stuff about darkness, the night, pain and sacrifice being good. But in particular there was a focus on pursuing oblivion, and that resulted in Shadowheart doing some very destructive substances at a very young age, and learning how effective numbness was when coping with being a depressed teenager with BPD. She realised she was a lesbian while in this group, and that wasn't great because Shar was Not chill about that at all. These were radical second wave feminists that considered sex inherently reproductive of patriarchal power dynamics, and the cult was firmly asexual; lesbians were considered gender traitors and particularly looked down on. (Transgender people were not even acknowledged; truly old school r*dfems.) Her attraction to women is what made her question things most throughout her time there, but she was very young and impressionable; she wouldn't start to really firmly question things until she was 16.

She was, through all of this, a big fan of Christ; in fact some of the cult's ideology kinda deepend her concept of Christ and martyrdom, which she admired greatly. Self sacrifice was The Ultimate Virtue to her; a loving masochism, which really spoke to her (and her self-harming tendencies).

She escaped at 17 and didn't return home; she immediately became a novitiate within an Irish-Catholic cloister. This would have been in the early 80's. She dove head first into being a dedicated cloistered nun; it wasn't that different from her time in Shar's group except a lot more sober. When she took her vows and became a full fledged nun, she descended further into worship and over her 10 years there, she became more and more... Medieval with it.

This was a Problem, because this was the late 80's moving into the early 90's in the UK - not only was Vatican II well and truly instilled in the practices of all cloisters, but feminism had been kicking around for a while now and had only gotten more popular. Nuns being hidden away from the world, participating in shame circles and self flagellating was well and truly Over and were banned practices. But Shadowheart researched older methods of worship from deeply devoted cloistered nuns and dove in, because they felt meaningful, helped her cope and they made her feel special to Christ.

Something that had a big impact on her was her duties as a volunteer nun overlapping with the AIDS crisis. She found that she had to consistently fight her sisters and abbess to be allowed to assist people with HIV. This forced her to contend with her queerness, the morality of her relationship to other gay people. That prompted her to start exploring lesbianism and queer community secretly, which tempered her obsessive cloistered nun tendencies; she still self flagellated and prized self sacrifice, but her shame was being challenged, and she had felt how much she wanted diverse, queer community.

Her and Lae'zel started hooking up when she was 25; it started as moments of desperate desire for relief and comfort, but became a little more than that as time went on. (It fucked with Lae'zel A Lot.) Shadowheart was finally kicked out at 27 when not only was she caught with another nun (not Lae'zel), the extent of her self-harm was seen on her body. She became too much of a liability for the cloister. Very soon after that, Karlach appeared in her apartment.

Because I genuinely have to admit, I had to re-watch that flashback scene in LMK canon to realise the point you were making.

The truth is that... I had no idea how similar I had ended up making Ivory Lady's child form to little Baihe (there are differences, yes, because the only reference I had for Baihe was Xiuying's own child design I created a while ago. Baihe was simply designed to look a lot like her).

Like... I... I did not realise. At all. But I look back on this now and, yeah, you are right! Little Baihe really does look like Ivory Lady on that scene!

But it was not my intention for Ivory Lady to have purposefully taken up little Baihe's face in that scene. But y'know what?

Of course out of all children the Ivory Lady would think of, it would be Baihe.

But I don't think the Ivory Lady would have done this to 'specifically' fuck with Ling. No, no, no, she is not that cruel.

I do not think she likes to torture or harm people. In fact, isn't the pain that people experience one of the very things she wants to stop when trying to end the world? But she does see a necessity in it in order to pursue destiny, which, kind of makes her a hypocrite.

Scratch and Henrietta both wake up at sunrise. As much as Scratch finds it funny to annoy poor Grounder by crowing at the night owl (or uh.. Mole) to wake up, it's a nice change of pace to live with a fellow morning bird. He still crows though!

Scratch will fight anyone who tries to harm Henrietta. Henrietta insists unless one of them is in immediate danger that the fighting isn't necessary, but Scratch sometimes forgets about that.

Pet namess I mean this is already canon. Henrietta has her cute little pet names for Scratch like dear, darling, sweetie, and ect. Scratch isn't very good at coming up with pet names, but she started to mimic her's which Henrietta finds cute.

They share a nest bed. Because I find Scratch's nest bed in the show downright amazing and incredible.

Henrietta gains comfort weight and is chubby, CRY ABOUT IT!!

Henrietta kinda helps Scratch learn about the world from a non-villain perspective. Scratch is still a little "evil" ofc, I'm bias I adore silly little evil guys (team Skull my beloveds). But not legit taking over the world, endangering lives, and abusive evil! Anyways, Henrietta kinda helps Scratch acclimate into a more peaceful life.

Scratch is secretly a bit insecure about how she looks, but Henrietta helps him love herself a little more.

Henrietta helps put Scratch together if he ever breaks. She's no robotics engineer, but she does know how to fix vehicles. So she has a bit of knowledge plus guides and studies on robots.

I'll probably come up with more later, but that's all for now! Sorry if there's any bad grammar or typos, I am so so tired cuz been busy on remodeling my entire room 😭!

Honestly I find the character of Colin/Justin and the way he is handled to be disgusting, especially in a game meant for young girls. When I was a kid playing the Phantom of Venice, I didn't really notice anything wrong with him, and even thought that he might have been there as a cute boy character for the fans to like, like Henry from CRY or Dave from SHA. I never LIKED him, but if you were on the message boards at the time I'm sure you remember how nearly all the Alternate Endings paired Nancy with him, and so I figured that was the function he was meant to serve in the game.

The problem that I'm seeing now playing this game as an adult (and like, honestly I've replayed it when I was an older teenager and didn't pick up on it so yikes) is that that IS what the game is treating him as. Nancy and Helena have a conversation about how he's boring, but cute, and he has an attractive air of mystery. This isn't something I'm reading into, that is literally the text of the conversation. The problem is that is absolutely NOT what he is, and so I've compiled here a list of Yikes (tm) moments that go directly against this characterization. I am going to put it under a read more bc it ended up a lot longer than I meant it bc I don't self edit and I wanna save your dashboards, but I know the clue crew likes to read lol so get ready:

1. LITERALLY your first interaction with him--he assumes Nancy shares all of his same interests because he finds her attractive, and bullies her into going along with what he wants. If she says that she is not interested (like I chose) he gets upset with her, and Nancy responds by placating him and saying that no, she actually WAS interested in tesserae! And he won't be nice until she literally begs him to show them to her. Then, after he gets what he wants, when she understandably says "that's nice but I have to go", he begins to INSULT her and once again she responds by falling over backwards to get him to like her again

This is harmful to young girls for a number of reasons, namely that a) Colin views Nancy as an object to project his own fantasies on to and becomes upset when she is a real person with her own interests, and b) It shows that NANCY is in the wrong for hurting his feelings, and it is her responsibility, not his, to make him feel better. There is something to be said for placating a dangerous situation until you can get out, but that is not the case here and Colin isn't being violent, he's just being a dick 2. He is SO UPSET at the fact that Nancy has a boyfriend! This is a point that comes up multiple times in the game, and was a jumping off point for many people on the message boards to ship him with Nancy. He has known Nancy for mere hours when he starts being pressed about this. This is not cute and romantic. This is very weird. He should not feel ownership over a girl he met so recently, and the game just treats it as a "haha, Colin is so funny" type of situation, when it is super predatory and gross.

3. The whole thing with the sausages--he gifts Nancy tainted sausages (which I fully do admit was not his intention, he was just trying to win her over with gifts which is a whole different thing I'm not getting into), and sends them with a signed card. Then, when Nancy asks about them, he lies and says it wasn't from him. Then, when Nancy points out it absolutely was, he is upset again. This whole thing is just so weird, and he acts like it's Nancy's fault for trying to figure it out rather than his fault for not telling the truth.

4.The absolute shift in his demeanor and tone when the bulb goes out in his microscope is insane. He starts yelling and berating Nancy for something completely out of her control, and when she's like it's just the bulb he's like hee hee sorry lol oopsies! Do this work for me now! And Nancy DOES it! Like that was a totally normal request after a totally normal interaction! This was annoying when I was a kid, but now that I'm an adult and recognize this as an actual abusive tactic that many men use to paint themselves as still good guys while flying off the handle it leaves a really sour taste in my mouth.

5. Why does he leave the note when he leaves the Ca on Nancy's bed??? There are so many other places to put it, like his desk, her desk, the coffee table, etc... that aren't as creepy as "this guy you've known for two days is fucking around with your bed" 6. Okay Helena says he's cute and sorry bro but that is just not the case. I'm being mean here and it doesn't really have a point that aligns with the post I'm making but let me dunk on him for a second--he has fucking Justin Timberlake ramen hair that wasn't a good look when it was popular in 1999 and it certainly wasn't popular at the time the game came out. He looks like he auditioned for N*sync and got cut first round and made it his whole personality As parting thoughts, I understand that there is a degree of Nancy trying to keep her suspects happy and unsuspecting at play. What I don't love, however, is that there are multiple conversations in the game where Colin is treated as annoying, but harmless. Because to me, that sends a very dangerous message to girls about what behaviors are acceptable for men to have towards women, and how they are meant to respond. I might be blowing smoke out of my ass here, because I played this game as a kid and didn't notice anything wrong until I was an adult, so it might not be a problem. But on the other hand, I also didn't see any problem with his behavior other than, like the game says, he was kind of annoying. So do with that what you will.

Also there is a lot of gross "save the children" rhetoric these days where they pick and choose benign things to focus their anger on rather than look at things that are actually harming children, and I hope I didn't come off that way in this post. My point is, even if you take away my points about harmful messaging to kids, I think Colin is a creep lol

Your post about Jason being girl coded reminded me of a post which talked about the anger of abuse survivors. How it's brushed off, and how they are victim blamed for their own abuse and called hysterical and other things. Many survivors also talked about their own experiences. These women were expected to forgive and forget their trauma, they were told their anger was stupid and harmful and annoying to witness. Anger is unanimously seen as bad and the post was about how it's good and that if the victims want to express their anger, remain angry and not forgive, they have every right to do so. I was new to comics then and had just read a lot of Jason and so I made a connection between him and what the post talked about. It honestly changed my entire understanding of his character. Every single point, every thing in that post seemed to be about Jason. It baffled me. The post also resonated with me (mostly about how women are silenced and how we're not allowed to be angry, I've experienced this my whole life) a lot but much more strongly with Jason. I've never talked about it because it seemed very stupid to me that I was equating a real life thing with a fictional character and that too a man. But now I feel vindicated that I am not the only one who sees this. Mostly when people say that Jason's like a girl it's about that he's feminist and that he's fridged like female characters, which are totally true of course! But there's also his rage(how dare he be angry), how he's called emotional(like an insult or weakness) and stupid(his every skill and accomplishment is easily forgotten) and constantly victim blamed for his own abuse. All of these things are as you said, very girl coded. Thank you for making that post and opening discussion about this topic! I hope you write more.

I think that the fact that Jason is still very much a man allows women who identify with him to feel stronger in their hurt though. It can feel disempowering to identify with a female character with the same kind of story because it gets framed in a kind of mocking way. Like "haha, look at her thinking she is strong." Or it can feel like a fake and superficial attempt at girlpower, which still ends up making women feel more mocked than taken seriously. So identifying with Jason on feminine problems I think is very valid and validating!

Underrated TimKon Scenes #15

Robin #141

Not because it’s, like, super shippy, but because I think a lot of people probably haven’t seen it. Conner doesn’t appear much in Tim’s run, most of their interactions are in their teen hero crossover comics, but this is one of the rare times Tim specifically asks Conner to come to Gotham. 

And yes, I can actually see how they talk to each other in this particular comic can actually be kinda off putting, but there’s a couple little gems among the rocks in there. 

For context, Tim’s father and Stephanie have both recently died, and his stepmom is still in a mental health clinic. He’s staying with “Uncle Eddie” at the moment, and he’s been pretty distant from the other bats. This is noted as taking place before Conner’s Luthor mind control incident at Titans Tower. 

Tim is in an awkward situation where Darla, a girl he knew from school that died in the gang war Stephanie “died” in, has been resurected by Johnny Warlock, a villain with a grudge against Tim. Darla comes to Tim to ask for help with a problem, said problem being she has to kill Robin to repay her debt to Johnny. She doesn’t know Tim IS Robin. 

Tim’s big plan to fix everything is to convince her the Robin Johnny is after is already dead. He is going to fake internet sleuth his way into showing her a bunch of pictures of the various Robins over the years and claim that the one Johnny wants - himself - is definately already dead because look! He was followed by a girl Robin, and then some other dude with a much different body type... 

Yup, Tim’s plan is to put Conner in the Robin suit and hope she buys it. 

And Conner AGREES to it. 

They may be snarky bitches to each other this whole comic, but I gotta give my man props for hearing this stupid ass plan and going with it anyway to protect his bro. 

And SIDEBAR... the fact that they had to have had some sort of photoshoot of Conner in the Robin costume ahead of time for Tim to leak onto the internet and “discover”, I.... 

So...... Tim has this stupid idea (I’m sorry Tim, you’re very smart, but you’re very dumb when you’re stressed and alone) to convince Darla he can set up a meeting with Robin by posting to this forum “the super hero are totally known for reading” and the two wait for Conner on some roof top, where Conner shows up to look all Not Tim Like in the Robin suit. 

(Don’t mind Tim calling Darla “Laura,” she changed her name when she was resurected because “Darla Aquista” is dead.) 

Tim, it’s okay, I understand, Conner’s muscles are very distracting in that costume. 

Yeah, this prectictably goes wrong. 

I appreciate how fast Tim goes from “haha, oops, I’m sorry, lucky you’re invulnerable, huh?” to “omg, are you okay?” when Conner’s like “dude, I’m weak to magic.” He’s not even bothered by Conner’s empty threats, he’s just “okay, buddy, you can kill me at home.” 

Even threatening bodily harm, Kon’s like “watch your step, I puked here.” 

And I’m weak for any time Conner’s frustrated with Tim’s secret identity, even after he’s let in on it. “You were playing Tim Drake. You ARE Tim Drake!” “Yes, but no.” 

“He got a little overexcited on his very first encounter with Robin, the greatest, manliest, most magnificent super hero of them all” - self-aggrandizing teasing, flirting, or both? You decide. 

You think Conner likes it when Tim calls him “big guy”? I think he likes it. 

And again... there... HAS TO BE an off-screen scene of Tim patching up Conner in the Robin Nest, and they ROBBED me of it.

Oh style! Appearance! Yay this is fun! Okay so I think I'd be the exact opposite of what an average ghost enjoyer looks like. I love pastels and whites and baby pinks. For my style I'm super into the whole lolita style so frills, dresses, bows, lots of bright sweet colours! I'm also into that whole Bimbo vibe? Like dressing in bright pink in really short miniskirts, baby tees and thigh highs. I just find it really funny how if me and whoever I were to be matched with in Ghost stood side by side, we would be polar opposites of black and pink. But general appearnace, I am a 5'3 korean girl with black hair down to my shoulders with white highlights and tan skin (terzo is canonically shorter than me so 💅💅) and I have piercings down my right ear, a lip piercing and eyebrow piercing. I also have a small studio ghibli tattoo on my wrist, a moomin tattoo on the back of my arm and a tattoo of star constellations on my upper thigh (which is funny because I have a big fear of needles).

I think my personality really depends but I like to think of myself as just a general sweet person but that's just me (IDK I FEEL SUPER SELF CENTRED TALKING ABOUT MY PERSONALITY HAHA). I mean, I reckon just in general I really like people so I want to be seen as a sweet person. I'm a girl's girl and I'm an extrovert, I go out of my way to talk to people to see if I can make new friends, if someone wants to talk or a hug or needs anything, I want to be the girl that can be there for that. I care about useless things like plants and bugs and I apologise when I bump into inanimate objects. Despite all that I also think I'm super careless and accident prone. The amount of times I miss a step on the stairs and go tumbling down or I bang into a clear window isn't funny. Going off the whole bimbo thing from earlier, I have been described as a bimbo before so I guess a bit of an airhead, dense, a little dumb and super optimistic.

Hobbies and interests. I love makeup, I like dressing up and going out. Just looking super cute and going out shopping or taking a walk is super appealing to me. In my free time, I play violin and I like painting my nails, usually pastel colours but it's just super fun to do! On other days, I probably watch 1000 hours of tv a day or practice baking. I'm not great at it but I like baking sweets and giving them to my friends. I like cats a lot and anything that just looks cute in general. I love plushies, champagne/cocktails, horror movies and reading when I'm not watching an unhealthy amount of Tv in my living room. Another hobby I have which probably isn't a great one is clothes shopping. I love spending money which isn't great but shopping for a new wardrobe is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I'm a lurker on this site but i wanted to drop by and say that the dynamic you've created with Aemond and Luke is sooooo impressively complex and layered- and so drenched in miscommunication and blockages and issues. I just read on Twitter (lol) about emotionally damaged people wanting their partners to prove their love to them because they feel they do not deserve it- and how that can be soo harmful. Obvs in the context of GOT and D+S and all of the twisted stuff aemond had gone through and heard its a lot more serious (he is so crazy love it). But yeah.

Wonderful wonderful job! I'm excited to see where this goes and if they can talk for real and sort this out because while I AMMM not gonna lie I'm a little upset with luke (I'm an emotional person swayed by aemonds pov.. i know rhae and luke will sort this out i believe it with myy tender heart) I feel as if this has a lot more to it than just aemond kind of dooming it from the start with his insecurities.

By that I mean, he seemed to always be waiting for something terrible to happen, looking for evidence to feed his insecurity and his anxiety and post-trauma. And this is just.. gasoline to those flames in his mind. He's like: Luke has just confirmed everything I've been saying in my own head.

Where are the westerosi therapists? These mfs need COUNSELLING! Hahaha. And alicent of course. I love her so much I could weep for her! It's like 4am and I have really bad insomnia so I re read the entirety of D+S and while I am a little glad that rhaenyra can comfort and help alicent my girl, I know it is also a big trauma in itself to have your secrets in the open like that in such a tense and emotional context too. I hope she's okay.

Hey, this was all so kind and sweet!! I feel ya on the insomnia--I have a 7:30am job so I basically just live off anxiety and bursts of mania until I can sleep through the weekend, lol.

Yes, 'prove your love by doing xx' is a really toxic thing to ask for. And ineffective--Aemond's not thinking very clearly (lol), but IF Luke gave him what he wanted I think he'd feel momentary satisfaction at best. He told himself in that scene that he wasn't blackmailing Luke like he could have, but it was still emotional blackmail and they wouldn't have walked away closer. In fact, I can't see them recovering from it.

Then there's Luke who HAD the knife in case Aemond really couldn't forgive/move forward without using it, so he was very ready to feed into this toxic idea himself--until Aemond completely blindsided him of course by taking it a step farther/worse 😂 If this was a modern!AU you can BETCHA the happy ending would involve therapy, lol.

As I've told others, you are very welcome to take Aemond's side. He's got the least power in their dynamic and the most emotional baggage, and readers have all the context for the choices he's made right now. AND Luke hasn't been entirely forthcoming about his family (even if it was in the name of protecting them), so this situation acting like gasoline is an apt metaphor to Aemond's short fuse personality, lol.

Alicent deserves all the soft, good things, I just want to wrap her up in a blanket next to a cozy fire, make her some relaxing tea and stroke her hair 🥺 not saying that's exactly what Rhaenyra is up to off screen right now, haha, but she's certainly not yelling at her I promise. The gals are better off than the guys atm, haha.

I’d imagine that Guts and Griffith would have pretty interesting yet still extremely loving relationships with the non-biological kids. What would they be like?

For Griffith: Jan (Yan) is like a mini Guts. He sees so much of his husband in him. The white hawk constantly finds himself wondering if Guts was like their son or had similar habits to Jan when he was young. Like Jan's aptitude for climbing anything that looks even a little climb-able. Trees, stables, walls, storage sheds, the palisades' turrets. Anything. No matter how high or dangerous. The boy is very adventurous and tough. He might be quiet, but he is never one to back down from a challenge and his disregard for safety coupled with his interest in sword play reminds Griffith of Guts to a T. Knowing that his husband grew up without the guidance or love of a father figure, Griffith would try to be that figure for Jan (alongside Guts of course). He wants to teach Jan to be strong, sharp, and methodical with a firm but kind hand- something his husband had not gotten as a child. So while Jan frequently prefers to spar with Guts because of their similar temperaments/styles, the boy is still endlessly enamored by his long haired father's eloquent fighting style whenever he steps in to teach him new forms. Jan considers it the challenge of a lifetime to try and keep up with Griffith's moves. Their bond centers much around their time practicing sword play, only because Jan has a passion for it and very little patience with academics in contrast to Efa. He is a wild-child and Griffith loves his unpredictable nature, even if he has to try and rein it in every now and then for his own safety. He will let the boy have his freedom, so long as it isn't too far from his arms. Rather it be fencing or walks together through the gardens, Griffith savors his bond with his son (even if he has to unceremoniously climb up walls after him to bring him back to the safety the ground)

For Guts: Efa is his precious, precocious daughter. No harm must come to her. He doesn't tend to put a ton of importance on blood relation for his part- although his mind is still blown that he ever ended up passing on his blood at all. The fact that he took part in making a human is not lost on him. But even if he didn't father Efa himself, she is just as much his child as Jan is. For Guts, he's still just baffled that any kid wants to hang around a him, much less kids of his own. Having only ever swung a sword with his arms, swinging a giggling daughter around still melts his heart at the utter surprise of it. She's his perfect little girl. So much like her mother and yet still so much like Griffith, too. It reminds him that despite the odds against him, he'd found happiness with the people he loved. After the miserable start in life that he'd had and losing or nearly losing the things that meant the most to him, he isn't about to pass up a moment with his children. She will sit quietly with him while he does reps with his weighted sword, and when he can pull her away from her dolls or books to play fight a little bit with him, he is always bemused by the very Casca-like fire that sparks whenever she feels like he is showing her up. With Casca's temper and Griffith's death glare, he knows that she'll make a formidable fighter someday. Their bond is relaxed and close. Even if she spends a lot of her quiet time with Griffith or Casca, Guts will always be the wolf that dutifully guards her.

Let's talk about Mr Everdeen, Mrs Everdeen, and Mr Mellark.

“No, true story,” Peeta says. “And I said, ‘A coal miner? Why did she want a coal miner if she could’ve had you?’ And he said, ‘Because when he sings... even the birds stop to listen.’”

From this, do you think Mr Mellark had serious relationship with Mrs Everdeen?

Do you think her family disown her, after Mrs Everdeen marry with Mr Everdeen?

I don't think they had a relationship at all. I think Mr. Mellark had a crush on her but probably didn't really act on it. Then, when she married Katniss' dad, he told himself that was it. Mrs. Everdeen seems to have no opinion or memory of him whatsoever. Katniss says her mom never mentioned him when Peeta tells her that story (but that could also be because her mother isn't very outwardly emotional or chatty).

There are lots of intentional parallels drawn between Everlark and their parents, and I think the beginning of Peeta and Katniss' story was similar to Peeta's Dad/Katniss' Mom where he was admiring her from afar but too nervous to do anything about it. Then, because Peeta is not his dad and Katniss is not her mom and they are not necessarily doomed to make the same mistakes and in fact can learn from them because they know how much the results suck, their stories diverge. (Actively suppressing a tangent about the many parent/child parallels rn, haha)

Mrs. Everdeen was likely looked down on for marrying someone from the Seam. Even if her family didn't disown her, her lifestyle would have changed a lot and she needed to work a lot harder to make ends meet. Mr. Mellark, who apparently was in love with her, seems pretty judgey about her decision even while complimenting Mr. Everdeen (as if she needs a good explanation for choosing to marry a coal miner), so I'd imagine his opinion was a popular one.

I feel like this story is also meant to juxtapose the situation with Katniss/Peeta/Gale where Gale is judgmental towards Katniss for being "taken in by the Capitol" and how eariler in the series Peeta represents that privileged life to him. (The irony being that although Gale is the coal miner, he's now the one judging people based on their position, making him the Mr. Mellark of the situation.) It's a coin flip that shows all these fake divisions they keep putting up between people are bullshit and only end up doing them harm.

Hi Jen! I hope all is well. I'm 17 and never had anything with a girl, I'm just wondering how do I put myself out there? Most importantly how do I pick up signs?

At 17 I was avoided eye contact with all girls and trying so hard to make myself like boys and failing at every turn.

If I was speaking to my youngerself I would say don't rush into it but also don't be afraid to take some chances. Getting rejected by a girl leaps and bounds better than getting told yes by a boy. HAHA.

Eye contact is important. If you catch a girl's eye and you both hold it for that slight bit longer than a glance try a little smile. If she smiles back there is your opening to say "hi". It does not always mean romantic interest but interest non the less and worth pursuing with some follow up.

Get yourself a labrys necklace or bracelet to reassure others their gaydar is correct and you are a lesbian (or get a bi flag pendant if that is the case). A little visual proof is always helpful in our unsure world.

There is also no harm and, in fact, lots of benefits in building a friendship group of other same sex attracted women. Many of us meet future dates/mates from friends, exes etc.

At 17 your ability to volunteer might be limited but check with local pride groups to see if they will intern young volunteers to be apart of their board or volunteer force. Even helping at non LGBT+ groups like dog rescues, food banks, elderly friendship outreaches can put you in touch with many new people and expand your social circle. And most straight people have a niece or a friend or a grandkid who is lesbian or bi and they are happy to introduce you.

Hope some of this helps. Do keep in mind to always be honest with yourself about spending time with someone. IF you don't want to but think you should to be nice DON'T. Time and energy is precious and you should spend it on those who give you happiness.

REMI IS BEST GIRL! (BUT TECHNICALLY NOT REALLY TBH AND HERE’S WHY)

Let me be clear, Remi is my number one favorite character in unO. Almost leaning to a comfort character. However, I do have some thoughts on her writing that I want to lay out. PLEASE take this as more of a ramble from an emotionally driven brain than a critique tho. I’m not shaming Uru for her writing, just vomiting my thoughts. I may get some stuff in canon wrong so I deeply apologize for it in advance!

As far as we are concerned, her and Blyke are the most morally good out of the characters in this webtoon. However, she’s not perfect. In fact, she makes a lot of mistakes in unO. I hate how fans only brush her aside as the “nice but naive one” or the “stock badass cute female charcter” when there are so much more potential to her. But sadly, there are times where I believe the webtoon itself thinks the same way as them. Remi is not as well-written as characters like Arlo and even *gags* John. She does seem like that at first but there are cracks in her that make her feel… kinda off.

I do agree that she hasn’t been compelling since the Volcan arc. While she has her moments like her putting up the Safe House, it’s already predictable since she has been constantly shoved into the box of the “nice girl on the sidelines”, especially in the Rowden arc. I understand the need for spotlight to the other characters but it kind of hurts because I love Remi’s flawed side. My favorite scenes with her is when we see her vulnerable and reckless. When she prioritized her revenge over Volcan when Alana died over the danger of getting harmed herself or when she lost her cool and burst into tears over the idea of Arlo getting hurt like Rei. I love seeing this side of her because as much as she tries to be the active hero, she’s just a teenager with a hero complex who tries to do everything for everyone but ends up hurting the same people in the process.

With what we have in canon, I don’t buy that Remi “easily forgives” her friends, no matter how attached to them she is. Yes, she can be in denial for a while but I don’t think she would let them off completely. Arlo’s been trying to undo Rei’s hard work on the hierarchy for two years. Considering Remi’s persistent and active attitude and the influence Rei and her family has on her, I hardly believe she would tolerate what he did, let alone still be friends with him. It annoys me how every time he does her dirty or admits to doing something wrong, she just reacts with “>:( hmph, fine!”. And that extends too for Isen but it’s worse bc we don’t even see her get pissed at Isen. I like Remi and Arlo’s friendship in canon but since they are such good foils, it would be interesting to see them clash at first (not as intensely as John and Arlo tho) before having these small moments of friendship to have more of an impact.

I am okay with Remi being ignorant. I’m fine with seeing her on the wrong side. I just think it was handled poorly.  I can see Remi being naive but not to the point of complete inactivity. The only pre-Safe House Arc onscreen moments where I can see her fit into this “naive royal who does nothing and is ignorant of her actions” is when she does not apologize to John for Blyke shooting a beam at him (probably because jOHN SLAPPED HER AND CALLED HER A BITCH) or that funny haha scene in the webtoon’s first chapter where she playfights with Arlo for cake without the thought of accidentally harming others in the crossfire.  

Even though there’s not that much screentime of her being inactive, the same could be said for her work as Queen. Where was she for the past two years? Why was she so passive? She mentioned that she “tried to help others” during that time but that’s all we hear from her. We don’t see what she does or if she really does help low tiers before the Safe House arc. To me, it seems less that she’s naive and more that her existence was completely retconned for certain chapters just so John could have an excuse to absolutely roast her in that one episode (haha get rekt dumb bitch!1!1!1!1).

Remi is constantly overshadowed by other characters and honestly, I think it needs to be addressed. Yes, she has her own agenda but nowadays, it’s mostly swept away for Blyke or Arlo’s development or given a couple of moments to grow (X-Rei arc) only to suddenly be cut off so she could get beaten up by John.

On a related note, her giving up being X-Rei after a couple of scoldings by her friends just sounds so OOC, especially since most of her scenes are dedicated to the weight of Rei’s death in her and how far she went in order to. Thanks, I hate it. 

So that’s all of my concerns at the moment so here are the things I would love to see more from her:

Why was she a mostly absent Queen before Rei’s death? What happened to her in the past two years? Did she really do her part but Arlo’s efforts to dismantle Rei’s hierarchy were too much for her?

More platonic moments with her and Isen! I understand that she and Blyke are more close to each other because they are canon love interests but I would love to see more of her friendship with Isen with genuine concerned or tender moments since most of their interactions are just haha funny moments and scolding Isen for being a dum dum. I love the scenes where Isen puts himself out of the line to save Remi when she was fighting Volcan as well as Isen getting beat up driving Remi to confront John. I know that this is a Remi post but Isen feels like a third wheel comic relief most of the time and he deserves better—

Her thoughts on being coddled by Arlo and Blyke. I noticed they baby her a lot and while they have good intentions, it does come off as condescending at times.

Remi being a workaholic. I explained this in a post before but I really feel like this is a good main flaw for her. It also makes her a foil to Seraphina where even with Remi’s selfless intentions, she makes mistakes and it still drains her like how Sera was when she’s Queen. I’d love her to contemplate how she’s not good enough for anyone or always end up making things worse with her help or smth like that.

For a time before Sera’s Spectre arc, she was the only character who was literally breaking her back to uncover the Authorities and the one responsible for most of the improvement on Wellston since the Safe House. I want to see her tired and stressed out of her mind!

The first thing that caught my attention from her is how different she sees the hierarchy. Despite coming from an implied high tier family, it’s fascinating how we see her and Rei being raised with a more community-based mindset from their parents. I really like that and I love to see more of how it influenced her.

The influence Rei had on her besides his death. We get the idea that she had inherited a lot of values for him but I would love to see how much Remi tries to be him as a Royal and probably lead to an identity crisis on how much is the real her or her brother’s legacy—

Bring the X-Rei arc back. Please. 

Just her going apeshit in general. Make her scrunkly. Embrace her flaws. She deserves better.

I understand that we can’t explore this currently because of all the current events and having all the screentime be on the actual main characters. I don’t want a Remi-centered unO or anything but I still wish we had room for at least a few of these to explore. 

To address the title though, I would consider Arlo best girl okay bye—
