This stance is pivotal, especially as the world marks two years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a stark reminder of the volatile global security landscape.

How can we address global challenges and foster international cooperation to create a more sustainable and inclusive world?

A more sustainable and equitable world can only be created by resolving global issues and promoting international collaboration. We need to use several different avenues to accomplish this. As a first step, we need to improve communication across different countries, institutions, and interested parties. Issues like climate change, poverty, inequality, and lack of access to education and healthcare should be the focus of collective action.

The exchange of information, experience, and assets is a powerful tool for promoting international collaboration. It includes helping developing nations transfer technology, form alliances, and improve their infrastructure. We can move toward our common objectives more quickly if we share our knowledge of effective methods, creative approaches, and environmentally friendly technology.

Making spaces for participation and decision-making accessible to everyone is also essential. They foster inclusion and ensure no one is left behind by actively engaging varied viewpoints and incorporating underrepresented people in global efforts. More thorough and efficient answers may be found via coordinated efforts involving government, civic society, industry, and academics.

Investments and other financial processes are crucial in finding solutions to global problems. Sustainable development programs need widespread mobilization of resources, including governmental and private investment. Green investment incentives, sustainable corporate practices, and aid for the nations fall under this category.

International collaboration may also be encouraged via educational and awareness campaigns. Individuals may create a more sustainable and equitable society if they are educated in global citizenship, cross-cultural understanding, and environmental concern.

In conclusion, a comprehensive and cooperative strategy that includes governance, information sharing, inclusion, financing, and education is necessary to solve global concerns and create international collaboration. Together, we can achieve more, build upon our strengths, and ensure a better future for everyone.

Studio 3 - Conceptual statement

Conceptual Statement

At the very beginner of this studio project, our team had a rough start. We didn’t have a clear vision of what we exactly wanted to do. It was only after many hours of discussion, research and looking at the many possibilities we were able to come up with the idea that we all agreed upon and thought it would suit well for this studio.

Since our theme for the studio is the global issue, we decided to choose air pollution as the topic for our project. Through our research we have found out interesting facts about air pollution and that it profoundly affects our breathing system causing a serious problem and if left untreated could lead to lung cancer. With that knowledge in mind, we thought about making a project that is based around that. Therefore, we have decided to create a physical 3D printed lung with some holes on the surface, and then adding in LEDS on each side of the lung. One side will have more LED and be brighter and the other with less LED will be darker. Through these holes and contrasting LEDs people will be able to see a comparison of a healthy lung, with no exposure to pollutants, and a damaged lung caused by high exposure to pollutants.

We were advised to make the lungs interactive, so we added button switches to control the LED instead, users/audience can engage/interact with our project by following the instruction on the labels to turn on and off the buttons to find which side of lungs is healthy and unhealthy.

Our goal aims to grab audience’s attention with a tangible and unique project used to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution, specifically to the human lung. We hope our project can not only make a difference to individuals but also motivate them to start taking action and reduce air pollution to benefit our society.  

During the stage of creating our 3D lungs on the software things were going on smoothly, it was only after once we printed out our model issues started to occur. One of the problems that we faced was that the interconnecting pieces made on our model for closing the two parts of the lungs together did not fit properly. This made us to try all sort of options to fix it such as using sandpaper and even placing magnets inside. Not only did it fail but also resulted in disfiguring parts of our model, which we had to reprint out and delayed more of our time. Another major concern we came across was finding a way to support our lungs as the bottom of it is not completely flat making it impossible to stand on its own. In the end, it was quite intense but we did manage to address these problems and find solutions.

Ideally, we would have liked to have had smoke like vapor coming out of the damaged side of the conceptual, life-sized lungs. But we decided that this would not be achievable with the time and technology we could access. We feel this would have had more of an impact on the audience in comparison to using the LEDs.

Overall, we achieved what we set out to do which is educating and raising awareness of the impact of air pollution.
