Gravelstone - dark tortie point Siamese tom with bright blue eyes

In loner culture, when a cat reaches twelve moons old, they can go off on their own and find love, or whatever. Gravel was two moons from a year when Storm came home with an illness. The illness took his life, as well as Snowys, leaving Gravel and Freckle healthy, and two young kits. Now tasked with caring for two young kits, Gravel and Freckle stepped up to become parents. They left the barn where their parents died, setting off to find a home for their family. They came across a young Tom named Thriftnose, who said he had been warned of a snow storm bringing in rocks and gravel. Apparently that was a sign that Gravel and Freckle were meant to join the clan.  So, Gravel became Gravelstone, Freckle adopted the name Frecklepath, and their kits became Sablekit and Frozenkit.  Now Gravelstone just wants to get laid. He had a whole plan. Once he turned a year, he was going to go out and find himself a babe or two. Have a few kits, travel to visit families, that would be the life. Now, he’s a mate less father of two kits with his sister, which means he has no free time to wax poetry at cats to gain some private time. He likes clan life, he just can’t wait for his kits to be old enough to leave the nursery. Ideal Partner: gimme some hot young thing who has it down bad for the frumpy looking single dad who definitely did not sign up for this job, bonus points for best friend of Frecklepath, extra bonus points for a queen of the nursery who has one kit of her own who loooves to play with Gravelstones kits. Frecklepath - pale tortie siamese shecat

Family: Snowy (mother, deceased), Storm (father, deceased), Gravelstone (brother, littermate), Sablewhisker (younger brother), Frozenmist (younger sister) Gender / Sexuality:  she-cat / bisexual Personality: Super sweet loving big sister type, totally the mom friend and wants to be, wants you to call her mommy Backstory: In loner culture when a cat turns twelve moons, they are allowed to leave their parents and go have their own adventure. Until then, they travel with their parents, where ever they go. So Freckle grew up in a nice warm barn with her parents, until a sickness swept through the barn, taking both her parents lives. They left behind two kits, who she has committed to raising, along with her older brother. She definitely feels like the mom to a teenage son and two babies. Treats her brother like a kit most of the time.  Freckle had every intention of leaving when she turned a year, and finding a nice Tom to settle down with. She wants the cuddles and the kits. She wants to take care of the family. So… she’s not all that upset to be in her position. Frecklepath can use her younger siblings to show a potential mate how good she would be with kits. She takes any opportunity she can to socialize, or go hunting with the clan. She does her best to blend into clan life, and earning the favor of a nice mate or two. Because of this, the care of her siblings often end up falling on Gravelstone, even though she’s much more motherly.  Ideal Partner: she would love a working dad, or maybe a stay at home mom who wants to raise kits with her, the best friend of her brother would be great, or a fellow queen looking for a big strong warrior who will keep her well fed Position | Clan: Warrior/Queen - Frostclan

Sablekit (Sabledream) - chocolate tortie tom

Family: Storm (father), Snowy (mother), Gravestone (older brother), Frecklepath (older sister), Frozenmist (sister) Gender / Sexuality: Tom / bi-curious Personality: childish, big brother vibes. Probably laughs at fart jokes. Still somehow the guy everyone has a crush on. Quick to whine or complain Backstory: Sabledream was raised in Frostclan, with his brother, and two sisters. His brother and sister took turns sleeping in the nursery with him, since their parents passed away when they were young. Now a rather spoiled warrior, Sabledream was mentored by his older brother, who practically guided him to success. Sabledream is surprisingly lacking in skill considering he is a warrior, and his silver spoon shows when he’s sent on a hunting party.  Still, he’s a good boy. He’s protective of his little sister, for obvious reasons once you read her bio. Definitely the big brother type that breaks up dates, and tries to intimidate the boyfriend. He might not be the best hunter, but he’s a big boy who can pack a punch when he needs to.  Ideal Partner: kit of the leader, someone with an equally hand-fed success would be really fun, medicine cat who falls for his bull shit would be funny too, apprentice to fell for his bs and realizes that they are a much better hunter than him and calls him out on his bs Position | Clan: Warrior | Frostclan

Frozenkit (Frozenmist) - dark point siamese she-cat

Family: Snowy (mother), Storm (father), Gravelstone (older brother), Frecklepath (older sister), Sablewhisker (brother) Gender / Sexuality: she-cat / literally just dtf Personality: the mean girl who is hot so she somehow gets away with it, the spoiled princess, the very flirty very open girl, gives *pregnant at prom* vibes Backstory: Frozenmist was raised by her brother and sister, since their parents died when she was a kit. She was spoiled, paw-fed what she needs to say, do, preform in order to get what she wants. Frecklepath was her mentor, and Frecklepath had her eyes on love, so Frozenmist mimicked her mentor. Frozenmist is known to be a flirt, using her good looks to get away with slacking in some areas. This is often reminiscent of how her brother acts.  Ideal Partner: the big strong deputy who is weak for a pretty girl, sassy med cat who calls Frozen out on her bs and its hot, the totally swoon simp of a warrior Position | Clan: Warrior | Frostclan

Despite the number of times I’ve watched the show now, something just hit me from episode one. When Stede’s getting the crew kitted up to fool the English, he casts Pete as “Lord Peter Gravelstone, minor royalty from Essex” and describes the white crew members as a bunch of “upper crust lads”.

Not Mister. Not even just ‘Sir’. He tried to pretend they were actual nobility.

I’ve blathered on before about Stede’s place in the class hierarchy in relation to the Badmintons and the British Naval officers (ie. he’s new-money gentry, but they’re mostly aristocracy, which means he’s barely above trade for them) and hooboy, the fact that he basically ranks up his companions in order to outclass the Badmintons is either a ballsy or a desperate move.

Stede is an easy target for anyone who is legit aristocracy for many reasons, but especially as a jolly jump-up from the colonies. By seating a Lord at his table as one of his passengers/travelling companions, maybe he thought it would provide a buffer, but every single one of the Naval crew takes one look at those unconvincing muppets and they know these aren’t aristocrats. And even if they were, any aristocrat would probably laugh along with Nigel and Company at this bumpkin and his bumpkin friends.

how do you think the dragon cultist would react to gravity sorcerers using lightning too?

I mean, gravity stuff generate little lightings and sparkles sometimes and Radahn deliberately use them to fight~

Regarding the Dragon Cult's reaction, I think they would be interested, but not too bothered about it. By the very nature of the Cult (integrating dragon incantations into the Golden Order), they're probably one of the more tolerant sects of the Order. I also don't see them being particularly academically inclined (that would be the Fundamentalist Branch [note to self: Golden Order sects overview later?]). I think the reaction of the average Dragon Cultist would just be: Shrugs. "Huh. Neat."

However. Now that you've pointed out the similarity, I have to follow that tangent.

So aside from people who learned it secondhand (Radahn and the Redmanes), who do we see using gravity magic?

Alabaster Lords, Onyx Lords, Fallingstar Beasts, and Malformed Stars. All come from space (meteor strikes, specifically), all have stone skin, all use gravity sorceries with a lightning component.

Now, who else uses lightning? Those who, again, have it secondhand (the Dragon Cult, the beastmen of Farum Azula), and the Ancient Dragons.

They once defended their lord as "a wall of living rock." They drop gravelstones and smithing stones when killed. They are said to have stone scales. The Ancient Dragon smithing stones are even said to be able to twist time -- I'm no expert on the Theory of Relativity, but can't immense gravitational force affect the flow of time?

It's almost like they might have a common point of origin...

Fluffybriar - long haired grey tabby tom with darker stripes on paws and head

Family:  Gravelstone (father, doesn’t know), Cougarleap (mother), Howlingsky (littermate), Cloudygaze (littermate) Gender / Sexuality: tom / questioning Personality: biiiiiig mamas boy, except his mom is a total badass so like, scary big brother, but also looks soft, looks like a cinnamon roll could kill you, but you know hes a cutie who could kill you the minute you meet him, like the rock Backstory: Fluffybriar never got to meet his father, but its because Cougarleap doesnt know who his dad is. Oldest brother to his two younger siblings, Fluffybriar is very protective over them. As an apprentice he never got in trouble, and often kept others out of getting in trouble, even if that meant providing an alibi. Fluffybriar is a genuinely good guy, who pushes himself every day to make sure his clan doesnt go without. He’s such a dear, always offering to help when someone needs it.  When he isnt on patrol or hunting, Fluffybriar spends time with the apprentices. He’s always happy to help with training, and amuses them with tips and tricks.  Rumor is that Cougarleap and her littermate Tigerprowl, are the result of their mother mating with  a Brookclan warrior, though their mother denied it until the day she died. Some believe the father of this litter is Gravelstone, a loner who joined the clan for about a year when he needed a place for his younger siblings. Once Gavel’s siblings were warriors, he left. Howlingsky - cream tom with dark tabby points

Family: Gravelstone (father, doesnt know), Cougarleap (mother), Fluffybriar (brother), Cloudygaze (brother) Gender / Sexuality: tom / questioning Personality: really awkward, quiet, keeps to himself Backstory: Mentored by the deputy, Howlingsky has always been quiet, and a loner type. Opting not to join in on social playing when he was a kit or apprentice, as a warrior he’s never *asked* to join someone hunting, he’s just assigned patrols and hunting parties. Cats wouldnt usually chose to spend time with Howlingsky, but not because they dont like him, they just dont know him.  Only his siblings have broken through his shell, to find out that Howlingsky is just a funny little guy. Often his brain is filled with silly “stoner” thoughts, only because his mind is always going. When he leaves the camp alone, he’s often just walking around, minding his own business. He’ll do exploring, play in the snow. He does solo play very well, but with the right tom or molly he can see himself inviting someone on those walks. Cloudygaze - pale shecat with pale tabby points

Family: Gravelstone (father, doesnt know), Cougarleap (mother), Fluffybriar (brother), Howlingsky (brother) Gender / Sexuality: shecat / pansexual Personality: domme in private, kind of mean and bitchy but in a way that its hot?, her praises are so genuine though and they just touch your heart Backstory: Mentored by her uncle, Cloudygaze was raised with a powerful male warriors view of the world. Tigerprowl is a social, smart, clever, handsome, powerful and large warrior, and raised Cloudygaze to see herself that way. She’s very pretty, delicate compared to her siblings, taking after her unknown father in the body shape. Sometimes the things that come out of Cloudygaze’s mouth, you swear it was Tigerprowl talking. Still, its not entirely offputting, seeing a she-cat carry herself with such confidence. Confidence of knowing she can talk the talk and walk the walk.  Cloudygaze is definitely looking for that warrior (or warriors, poly?) who wants to walk beside her. Someone who can keep up. She is a very social shecat, and will join as many patrols and hunting parties as possible, and it seems everyone is her friend. Ideal Partner: past apprentice of her uncle, apprentice of mom, best friend of one of her brothers, a follower of her uncle, maybe someone he like saved or smth, the quiet warrior who is teased for being a loner vibe Position | Clan: Warrior | Frostclan

Sunday

First ride in the Cevennes, the campsite where we rent a chalet is at the Causse Noire, a high flattish plateau between the Canyons around here. The road goes up and down, and I pass some smal, smaller, smallest villages with ‘careful for Sheepherds’-signs along the way. Some roads are newly paved with loads of gravelstones which isn’t nice when you’re going down, luckily it’s very quiet around here especially on a Sunday-festive-day-morning, so I can ride at the half of the road that’s not been done. After a not to steep descend I end up in the anthill of Meyrueis, a small touristic town with lots of bars and restaurants, and a  secondhand market because of the 14th of July, France is celebrating. I get a last streetwise chair at this terrace alongside a nice Frenchman, who gives me the chair of his brother he tells me shortly afterwards. I ordered a coffee, which seem to take a while, but hey I’m on vacation. When the waiter sees me again, he gestures ‘oops’ and after the shortest while possible I get a coffee, for free, lol. 15 more k. to go so I say goodbye to the gentleman and his brother that got back and had to take the opposite chair, not being able to do what terraces are made for: watching people. A nice 7km. 5% climb got me out of town and up the Causse again and turning to ‘our’ village there he is: the hubby! His training for today doesn’t ‘allow’ us to ride together. The last kilometers this up and down again, and back to our lovely chalet. Lunchtime!
