Additionally, the Pinocchio movie is about Pinocchio finally becoming "a real boy" by following The Fairy's conditions 👀 I think Idia and Ortho are the obvious parallels of this but I believe its Yuu/Grim and Crowley because I'm desperate for Ramshackle 😂

The parallels between Crowley and Honest John are legitimately driving me insane. They even share a similar type of “swindler” character, with Crowley being very obvious about his greed and tricks. And with recently in the Glorious Masquerade event, he goes as far to consider himself the one that “raised” Malleus into a powerful mage

I definitely have to rewatch Pinocchio, or at least the scenes with Honest John. And no, you are so right about Yuu and Grim because they are LITERALLY the puppets to Crowley- it’s not even funny. Ever since Yuu arrived to Twisted Wonderland, they’ve been forced to bend to Crowley’s will- and because of him, they’ve been involved in every single Overblot/disaster. And the Overblots boys and their Phantoms feel a lot like a puppet and a puppeteers relationship, don’t you think? The Overblotters are simply the means for their Phantoms to gain strength and blot. The boys have succumbed to and are controlled by their emotions. And if it is true that the Overblots are purposefully caused by someone…👀

complaining abt godot's role in the ending of 3-5 hur hur

it took me some rewatches some rereads and a whole lot of thinking, but i think i finally get what 3-5 was going for now.. basically, godot is supposed to be this tragic figure that was forced into being a killer in order to protect maya. the game is self-aware enough to point out the flaws with his actions, with how he was too prideful to ask for phoenix's help, how he may have been blinded by revenge against dahlia, etc. and while im still not the biggest fan of how the game executed this reveal, as i still think there wasnt enough foreshadowing to warrant the reveal that he was at the temple this entire time (which is also why it took as long as it did for me to rly understand the ending).. i have bigger gripes with his overall character arc, so atp its whatever. my overall main gripes w godot's arc is that im weirded out by how it kinda overshadows mia's and maya's character, while also being framed in a way im not particularly on board with..

i find it weird that godot had acted in mia's and maya's self-interest, yet he hadnt consulted or properly spoke to either of them at all. he didnt have any means to speak with mia, so my main criticisms are between him and maya. tho i do find it weird that tht a proper conversation between mia and godot didnt happen at any point.. but thats besides the point. anyways, its weird that he just let maya go to hazakura, knowing that this would put her life in danger, and didnt think to inform neither maya nor phoenix abt this. he just let that happen, thinking that he (along w iris' and misty's cooperation) wouldve been enough to protect her.. like what. like ok, the game at least makes it so he points out how kinda stupid this was of him, and that if he really cared abt maya's safety, he shouldve let either her or phoenix know. but its still like.. the reason he didnt tell neither maya nor phoenix was bc of his pride; he faulted phoenix for not protecting mia, and so he wanted to show him how protecting someone should be done. and bc he held a grudge against phoenix for not protecting mia, he didnt want phoenix's help at all. and so he kept both maya and phoenix in the dark bc of his own pride……

and its like, this wasnt just a silly little mistake he made, valuing his pride over practicality. no.. this ended up costing a person's life, and not just any person, but the mother of our dearest friends. which is terrible! but that on its own, isnt actually that bad, writing wise. a tragedy borne from a person's pride is a common tragedy, and when executed well, can be really really good. but the problem i have w how godot's character arc executed this is with the framing.. after we undress godot as misty's murderer, hes then surrounded with an air of tragic dignity. as though him killing misty was an inevitable, sorrowful, tragic thing…. and im sorry but WHAT??? WHAT?!??!

this dude… KILLED SOMEONE. he allowed maya to get caught in a dangerous situation, which he Knew about, didnt tell neither her or phoenix about the danger, and then had to Kill someone to protect maya, all bc he was too prideful!! he ended up in this situation where he had to kill someone bc of his pride! this is a tragedy, yes, but it is more senseless than it is tragic. this isnt a "this didnt have to happen" type of tragedy, this is a "why the fuck did this even happen to begin with??!?" type of tragedy!! and yet… it isnt portrayed as such??

instead of being portrayed as a shameful fool... godot is instead allowed to maintain an air of dignity?? why is that??? when i think back to the other killers we've convicted who maintained an air of dignity, i can recall vasquez, mimi miney, and gant. all three of them confessed on the stand, and express a grim sort of resignation at what they have done. vasquez killed out of self defense, miney to cover her tracks, and gant for a twisted sort of insurance. and yet, despite the resigned dignity that they carried with them, these guys still had an air of shame surrounding them! bc they were killers!!! so why was godot afforded a special type of tragic dignity…??? bc him becoming a murderer wasnt some sort of tragedy… it was just senseless!! and not just that, but i had to drag the truth out of him! he didnt just confess to what he had done, when he couldve.. LIKE…. i get its for the drama, and to fold up the dahlia arc first but still.. basically.. WHY THE FUCK DID I DRINK A CUP OF COFFEE WITH HIM..?!?!? WITH THE PERSON WHO KILLED MY BESTIES' MOM…. WHAT?!?!?

and!!! and why were mia and maya… so ok with this??? thats another thing, this game shouldve been abt mia and maya; the final case was all abt the fey clan women, we've played as mia for 2/5 of the cases, and the fact tht mia, who despite being such an important character, had been out of the spotlight for the overarching narratives of the past 2 games.. aa3 shouldve been the fey women's turn!! but instead…. its about.. Godot??!? and the thing is like… godot's arc is supposed to also be about mia and maya, right? bc hes closely linked with mia, and 'became a killer' to protect maya…. but instead, his arc, and by extension aa3 as a whole, is like.. about his dumb pride.. huh??!! its about what Godot thinks about mia and maya, but not about mia or maya themselves. and the fact that both mia and maya had tried to cover for him…. what even bro. not to mention! that the past 2 games had already gone over the whole "the courtroom shouldnt be a battle of personal pride, but for justice instead" schtick, and then godot comes belatedly shambling in trying to score a victory against us as a matter of personal honor, like what?? What!!!

but basically yeah um... for these reasons, aa3 is definitely the least favorite of the trilogy for me, and this isnt even going over the whole iris and dahlia deal which is another type of strange... 3-5's final trial was just. Strangeee to me. also since im rambling anyways, just to comment some more abt how i think there wasnt enough foreshadowing to godot's presence at the temple.. theres a moment when maya is on the stand, where you can press a statement that talks abt a storage room that godot couldve been hidden in this whole time:

and thats just like... what!!?? a storage room thats just. never been seen or mentioned... and its like. well then if this is all it takes for someone to have just been at the temple this whole time, then gumshoe couldve also been here this entire time, what!! and also godot being here this entire time meant that he just like, ignored pearl the whole time while she was stranded here... which is.. such a shitty thing for him to do... Huhhhh?????

another day, another touhou post! i almost missed the deadline on this one (not that it really matters, the pace is gonna slow down a lot in a couple posts anyways once i catch up). today's game is a bit of a weird one!

nina's thoughts on Touhou 9 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View

PoFV is a pretty strange game. instead of being a single-player experience like most mainline touhou games, PoFV is a competitive 2-player danmaku vs game. there is still a 1-player story mode, but instead of 6 stages and boss fights each character has 8 versus matches against other characters tied loosely together into a storyline.

the gameplay is neat, its honestly impressive how well the concept of a competitive danmaku battle actually works and it feels pretty natural. as usual the screen fills up with enemies and bullets, but stages dont have defined patterns or moments, instead both players keep surviving through an increasing onslaught of bullets and spell cards until one slips up and takes too many hits. destroying enemies creates a small explosion around them that deals damage to nearby enemies and sends weak bullets in the range to the other player's screen. if you line it up right you can get some nasty chain reaction explosions that can clear up your screen and really put the pressure on your opponent. in addition you can put more direct pressure on the other guy by building up your spell meter, expending it to summon powerful bullet patterns or even your own character as a boss fight onto your enemys side. while at times it can get a bit ridiculous (the two 'villain' characters have completely broken spell cards and insanely good ai piloting) in general the gameplay is fair and pretty fun!

as a fighting game of sorts, PoFV naturally has a rather large character roster, a total of 14 playable characters! we have the returners in Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Youmu, Reisen, Cirno, Lyrica, Mystia, Tewi, and Aya. Then we have 4 characters new to this game: Medicine, Yuuka, and the 'villains' of the story Komachi and Eiki Shiki. each character has different stats, shot types, zone shapes, and spell attacks, which makes for a lot of variety in the roster.

to try and unlock everything i beat the story mode for all 12 choices (Komachi and Eiki Shiki don't have a story mode). i didn't aim for 1cc's since the game doesn't differentiate whether you used a continue or not, but a couple of the runs happened to be done without continues: Marisa, Mystia, Aya, Medicine, and Yuuka. i dont remember enough about all the different characters bullets and stats to say that i really prefer any over the others, tbh if i were to play more i would probably just pick a character based on vibes alone. Marisa is my go-to generally, but im also partial to Cirno, Mystia, and Aya.

for the four new characters, theyre cool. Yuuka is probably my favourite solely because she gets a lot of cute art with Wriggle lol. for some reason the fandom is very split on whether Yuuka is an angry masochist or a lonely but wholesome flower lady. i think shes realistically somewhere in the middle. Medicine is also a neat concept, being an abandoned doll in a field of poisonous flowers who came to life through raw poisonous energy. Komachi is goofy, shes basically the grim reaper of Gensokyo but shes also really lazy and always slacking off, pretty much every singleplayer storyline involves her getting caught snoozing by her boss Eiki Shiki. Eiki Shiki herself is probably the weakest new character imo, its funny watching her judge all the characters supposed sins, but its really all she talks about, and her annoying fight isnt winning her any points for me.

PoFV is certainly a weird outlier in the series, but i think the gameplay does genuinely work pretty well! the idea of making a competitive bullet hell is so out there and they really put in the work to make it happen.

I've always thought aspen trees are super pretty but also extremely unsettling with the way their trunks look like they're covered in eyes. I knew I wanted the forest to be an aspen forest bc of how gorgeous aspen forests look in the fall with the contrast of the bright orange leaves and the white trunks, and I thought the eyes in the bark just lended itself super well to the idea of the trees 'watching' everyone around them

Hi! Amazing blog you got here! I was wondering if you had any headcanons on how the Sextuplets would play The Sims? ^^

osomatsu would be the type to binge for days straight and then not pick it up again for another month. he takes maybe 30 minutes each just designing the characters and makes up stories for each of them - only to erase them once he restarts after his binge is over

karamatsu is the type to play with the same family for generations - he's just Like That. spends hours designing what he can (the first generation, the houses, anything!) and even though he only plays maybe 6 hours in a week he's somehow the one who has the most time logged onto it

choromatsu has a carefully-curated harem where he only plays as a character he designed after himself (f6!choro, specifically). the other's don't Know since choro has another sim family to use as a cover up but he's definitely the one with the second-most time on the game. he loves his girls a lot. maybe even a little too much

ichimatsu just likes to trap sims and watch them die. he also uses one of the base models to collect cats and feed them. he's 100% best friends with the grim reaper with how much time he's had to interact with it

jyushimatsu can't sit still long enough to play, but his style is more like osomatsu's - though it isnt that he gets bored and drops it, it's that he genuinely forgets about it after a few hours of not playing. he keeps the same save file, but over the few months of starting the game he only really has 3 hours on it

todomatsu is very back-and-forth. he mostly just cares about the character creation stage and will spend hours creating the prettiest models and uploading them for others to use, but he hardly ever plays himself. sometimes, if he really wants to, he'll create houses - theyre few and far between, though, since he really does prefer creating people over houses.

yes believe it or not that freaky ass literally not even human clown in fgo gets love, and love from who? me and like 3 other people

first off

ok and with that out of the way,

i’m not even familiar with their lore. Reason why i stopped caring about the lore behind faust and mephistopheles is that an interlude happens that shows that mephistopheles is just some homunculi made by some mage nobody named faust. and even then the interlude doesn’t talk about the lore behind the novel, its just you helping mephy kill faust

that being said though i would hope the developers expand on their origins more and potentially even release a “true” mephistopheles (a girl can dream)

So, they’re not even the real deal demon known as Mephistopheles in the first place, and i can hear u going “well that’s lame” and like, no, we just need to redirect our feelings from appreciating a demon to appreciating a homunculi who has a weird characterization in the fate universe

Design tangent:

Fgo was actually my first gacha, and so when I came across this servant I kinda instantly fell in love with their design, I love the colors used in their final ascension and overall appearance. The hat that has horns but they're not quite horns, theyre these weird colorful pointy twisty things, the large garish butterfly ornament on their chest (which isnt ugly at all and somehow works so well with their everything on them) is cool, the tights are so cool to look at, i mean look -- a checkered pattern with golden lining on the shorts portion, the tits out look like yes we get it youre insane, the gloves??? purple and also cool, plus theyve got this gradient thing going on? and the fingers have this line going through them, thats so cool. actually the only other servant that comes close to this in terms of “out there” colorful designs is probably final ascension kama and qsh ( i love them both). Also, mephy has this scissor weapon?? thats so cool lol i dont see any other servant wielding giant scissors (for the love of god give mephy an animation update i need to see them use the scissors while doing flips) and they also have this bomb obsession going on? cant relate, but the bombs designs are so so cool i mean its a fucking centipede -- no idea if centipedes are a thing in the original faust but thats something Ill have to look up at some point. ALSO mephy is wearing heels oh my god anytime people wear heels is an automatic win. No clue whats going on with the hair but its kinda cute (dont question me on that) and it has curls and the hair colors are cool i mean its like a lavender thing with darker purple highlights? i love colorful things and i love people with wacky personalities so. Oh my god their tail how could i forget that its so cute and dumb i almost forgot it was there, like what is that even a whip? i dont.. but its got these little purple tips to them that are kinda cute/cool but more cool because tails are fucking up there alongside heels in terms of cool stuff on characters. and of course their fluffly cape -- again no idea what the designers were going for i mean look its a mess of a design i have no fucking idea what any of it means and i hope they explain it someday because that hair and the butterfly and the tail and the hat and the fluffy garb and a bomb obsession?? and this got the go ahead - yeah lets add that to the game like what

anyways this is me going off all about why i like their design! but we haven’t even touched the nitty gritty of it all. their personality! what personality you may ask? havent they always been some weirdo laughing a lot and saying dumb shit all the time? well yes and no

Characterization:

True to their dumb little clown design mephy also acts like one.

Some servants bond 1 lines are like “fuck off” and some actually talk to you, nah this bastard mephistopheles’ just laughing. and for the second bond line it seems to imply theyre fuckin with you more (showing up and dissapearing and saying ‘afterimage’) so thats nice that theyre actually making some effort to mess with you in a way? some servants take a long time to actually interact with you so this shows theyre not afraid of interacting with you and thats just at bond 2. and of course the third bond line implies they were probably trying to betray you, its stated in more than 1 place that mephistopheles (actually isnt this a caster class thing?) will betray you or attempt to do so. So the third bond line seems to imply that their attempts have been stopped by you and that’s what they say after some failed attempts. So after stopping this freak from doing some shit their next bond line is actually doing a confession! a jester being honest who couldve seen that one coming but theyre 100% not lying, they really arent a demon but a homunculi made by faust

speaking of faust we’re going to backtrack a little into their interlude that i brought up at the start of this post, its one of those dream interludes and it starts with mephy asking you to help him plant bombs for their eventual reuinion/showdown with faust -- in the meantime faust keeps sending golems in an attempt to kill both you and mephy

When you track faust down, it’s shown that faust was your typical mage, inhumane and uncaring. It’s also pointed out that this faust killed innocents, but this typical mage behavior is boring to mephy, and they say that boring typical behavior is why they wanted to kill them

 so i really cant blame mephistopheles for being the way they are, being raised by this type of guy, even if mephy was always messed up and wacky from the beginning its no reason for faust to attempt to kill him.

Mephistopheles also shows up in salem, cu alter’s interlude, and of course the knk crossover event, and some other things im most likely forgetting but those 3 are ones that i find notable

anytime they show up theyre actually helpful, in salem mephy points out that the nature of the being responsible for the salem epic of remnant is something alien rather than a typical foreign god, mephy also tells you that time is also being sped up and in their weird way they try to cheer you up by spouting some nonsense at the beginning (guda needed some kind of distraction from the grim events that had just transpired at that point in the story), i cant quite remember what mephy did in the knk event but they were a part of your group and were helpful the whole time, actually @/zeravmeta does an amazing analysis of their role in the knk event as well as some extra character analysis here

mephistopheles is kinda cryptic in a weird way though,

like overall i mean theyre a jester homunculi in appearance so yeah its to be expected but come on i love morally gray characters, despite their supposed betrayal hints scattered around here and there

they have this one line that always gets to me

and this line is said with a completely serious face too

the rare serious mephistopheles face! its kinda grim to see that line, no laughs, no nothing, their voice is kinda serious and monotone too. of course this could be just to get you to lower your guard but its still kinda out there that they have this rarely used portrait and that line, so i like to take it as being said to you when youre by yourself and with sincerity

and at least sei (with her wacky outfit and all lol) seems to get along with mephy and thinks theyre nice woohoo

so at the end of the day you have this guy that laughs a lot and gives mixed signals

and they fuck with you

and will most likely try to kill you more than once but hey thats just another tuesday at chaldea

Before I finish last thing I want to point out is this snippet from the fgo source material book which provides more information on servants, and this specific translated bit under mephistopheles

at the core of it all this homunculi....can be your friend! you just need to not go into despair i guess

ok sorry to literally talk about something only chris understands but comma!!!! dororo time! (prefacing with PLEASE go read dororo please do not watch the 2019 adaptation... go read it please!!!)

so dororo is like the character type of horribly sad past but also kinda little bastard guy!! but i think genuinely he is SO special!! like hes just coexisting w hyakkimaru (his little traveling bestie) and he calls him bro!! theyre literally found family!! but i rly rly like how dororo is rly cocky and just also genuinely a kind person. he reaches out SO much to the people around him and cares for them so much. hes just a kid but hes full of so much tragedy that he carries around with him but he still is happy and has a good time. he goofs around w hyakkimaru he talks with him and by god he cares about him so so much. hes so lonely because most places kick him out (for stealing) but he still is kind. hes goofy and mischievous and honestly i think he makes up such an important part of the story of dororo because honestly, hes just like a beam of sunshine but also literally would kill someone. he feels so raw and real and i cant help but rly admire how Tezuka wrote him and just genuinely how the manga ended, it kills me. he never treats hyakkimaru like hes different for the fact that he has a ton of things that make his past different (hyakkimarus dad sacrificing him to demons mostly <3) and how he just genuinely is there for him and cares about him so much. i think that rly no other series ive read has exemplified found family and people growing together naturally over time like dororo does. also how he genuinely does trust hyakkimaru with his life over and over and how he cares so much about other people. how he literally just nonstop is the cheerful part of dororo (the series) but is also such a tragic character the more u think about him.

dororo 2019 anime rant under the cut bc i dont wanna interrupt the positivity hours...

so the 2019 anime literally took away ALL that made up the story of dororo!! they made hyakkimaru and dororo have ZERO banter (which is like integral to dororo), they made hyakkimaru literally so so so bad... like there was no reason to be a bit ableist but they sure did. with dororo (character) in the manga, hes always trying to get hyakkimarus sword and joking with him and just being, yk a kid. in the anime, they completely knock that out and have to have dororo "help" hyakkimaru around and explain stuff for him as if hyakkimaru isnt able to do it himself. not to mention the whole erasure of the ending (dororo manga ending is sdjks sure smth but the anime rly made everything worse) and they made things rly serious for no reason. dororo both manga and 1960s adapation keeps a lot of stuff balanced w comedy and horror (if you think they do not make dororo experience the horrors or war, u are wrong) but the way they change the visual style and also just try to make it insanely grim and dark for NO reason. the visual style SUCKS and is so so basic and boring like u could do so much with it but u do a weird bobblehead thing too..

also love when an adaptation is SO bad that it makes the fanbase literally horribly transphobic and just no one really reads the og manga and it makes me literally so so mad... like idk the anime sucks so bad and quite honestly if u want a good adaptation, go watch the 60s version or read the manga.

Omg it would be so nice to get the starter characters’ constellations with ease. orz If only it wasn’t so difficult. Amber’s c2 is really useful, though! I like being able to explode her Baron Bunny when I hit its feet! It’s really fun.

Azul and the Leech brothers are slowly growing on me!! They’re really interesting and I like how Floyd and Jade complement each other. Although it makes sense since they’re twins hehe. They’re really tall, too. :O But I like their personalities and the aesthetic of their dorm a lot!! Floyd is perfect yandere material.

Ace has such a strong personality! I like the fact that he will freely speak his mind, even if it gets him in trouble. When he’s paired with Deuce, their chemistry is so funny. I can see why you like him! Even if some of his words can come across as mean, he seems genuine and very fun to be around.

Hehe!! >:D our taste in the dorms is too good! As much as I love all of the dorms and how unique they are, Heartslabyul just hits different. But it makes sense that I’d enjoy it so much because I like Alice in Wonderland. ^0^ and I’m excited to meet the Octavinelle trio! I wonder what will be in store for the mc, Grim, and Adeuce…

Omg if you do watch it, please tell me if you enjoy it! I found it to be a very silly, yet enjoyable anime. Everyone sparkles in it!! They’re very colorful and bright.

Yes!! I forgot when exactly the pre-order sale was, but as soon as I heard of it I ordered so fast. My pay had come in for that time period, too, so it really worked out. (The Savanaclaw dorm has a neat atmosphere. Leona’s character interests me! I’m currently on book two, so I’m really getting to know him now. And of course I like Ruggie and Jack! It’s hard to dislike any of the characters. T-T I love all of them. Omg and the Mostro Lounge!! I would visit often if it was a real place. The design is just so pretty! And the Ramshackle Dorm has the potential to be very cozy once it’s properly fixed up!)

Grim thoughts!!! Even though he gets the mc into all sorts of trouble, he’s very likable. I’m happy he accompanies us and is living with us in the dorm. I feel like it’s good to have a friendly company when you’re trying to find your way in a new place. ( ˘ω˘ ) Also, he’s the type to accept food bribes so if one of the yans needed to separate the two of you all they’d really need to do is give him enough tuna and other good foods and he’s off to have his feast and then a nap! I think he would feel a little worry for the darling if he had any suspicions about their relationship with the yan or if the yan was stalking them, but he probably wouldn’t think much of it and would move on if it didn’t seem significant. ^^;;; But what are your thoughts on Grim?

i, for one, would love to hear your deep read of zombieland saga *eyes emoji*

ok i just got through lowkey ranting about zls (mostly abt how much i love junko this season) to my friend so i think im sufficiently warmed up to make a first class fool of myself on the internet by becoming another Guy Who Get s Heated About Anime

so i’ve been thinking abt this a lot since zls revenge came out- and just in general but i mean given this season is literally called Revenge it now feels especially relevant to talk about zls as a story about second chances and seeking personal growth after hitting absolute rock bottom. like in this case that rock bottom is obviously death, the greatest low you can achieve, but its also not just that i dont think. bear with me.

the zombie angle is obvi crucial to the show like its the hook its twist its the instigator for a lot of the wacky situations and hijinks and such but its also? not super necessary sometimes? or at least it feels that way. what i mean is the show is so much about the characters and their personal arcs in a way that i find so human and relatable that i sometimes legit forget this is a show about zombie pop idols

even the overarching goal that drives the plot forward of “saving saga” (though i feel like we still dont know everything there is to know abt that) has to do with this theme of second chances. its a story about comebacks, about trying to breathe life into something that seems dead. thats maybe sort of obvious, but its been hitting me how much that like core thesis informs the characters and makes their own resurrections feel.. more personal ya know?

sakura loses her shot at her dream in a split second accident and for a while isnt even able to process that because of her lost memories, while ai was at the top of her game when she died and now has to watch her former friends and fans move on without her, and lily was a child star who was literally killed by her commitment to making other people happy, only finding her love of performing again after her death. franchouchou and the mission to save saga was the reason all the girls were brought back from the dead, but it also becomes their second chances in that it gives them a reason to keep trying in the face of loss after loss.

its a funny cute show but its also got some pretty grim stuff baked right into the foundation and i think the reason it works and doesnt feel super tonally dissonant is because its so consistently heartfelt. its so easy to get sick of shows with “never give up!” type messages when it feels like the characters triumphs are assured and their struggles only ever temporary, but it never really feels that certain for franchouchou, and the losses they face send ripples of fear and doubt through its members that come back into play the next time the group is put to the test. junko doesnt lose all her anxieties after one successful show, and the way saki, who prides herself in her sense of strength and rebellious nature, struggles to contend with change and situations outside her control still feels as real every time because imo theres an understanding that that stuff leaves lasting marks, even to the resurrected, even to a zombie.

not to go even more off the rails than i already have, but i think its really interesting the many different ways zombies as a type of monster are portrayed and the way zls relates to that. the common thread as i see it, if such a thing can rly exist, is this fear of decay. not even necessarily death itself but degradation, deterioration, the processes through which every person is stripped of what makes them themselves, reduced to a husk with only the most base instincts still intact, moving around and affecting some pale imitation of life but completely empty inside.

zls as a zombie story is interesting to me because while i think those sort of fears are still present (the scene recently where saki fully realizes she’ll never get to grow up still strikes me as incredibly dark for the episode it was in, though im not saying thats a bad thing) zls supposes that a person can indeed overcome that state of decay.

it doesnt treat the idea lightly; positive change is HARD and a thousand times more so for these characters who have already reached what should have been their lives natural conclusion. the sorta thesis i feel like zls and particularly revenge are presenting is that personal growth is a constant battle against the path of least resistance, the predisposition towards stagnation or defeatism that occurs after a traumatic loss. it’s not enough to be handed a second chance, you’re still just another mindless zombie until you decide to try and be more, and even then you have to keep making that choice every day that youre alive.

so yea hopefully this doesnt all read as some totally insane Reach but like once again, it may not necessarily be that deep, but it COULD be. and thats whats important to me <3

general thoughts: IT LOOKS SO SO NICE! all of my screenshots r really bad quality though because the vid i watched was low quality it looks so nice though like this feels like when u leave a place u love for a while and u come back and all of the nostalgia hits nd ur just really happy to be back. that had nothing to do with the animation quality but it is how i feel to be watching new pripara content. the animation quality itself feels like seeing ur favorite childhood game get a sequel and all ur favorites are there too

YUI FUCKIGN DIED? IN COMA?????? i have a feeling MAYBE this is connected to the whole dreams storyline from idol time somehow because lol when u sleep u dream and yui definitely is. sleeping. kind of worrying how normal nino&michiru look though despite missing their leader?

very excited to see what marios deal is i hope he isnt just like a stereotypical bully character bcs that would suck. i dont think he will be that based on the intro though

overall idol land seems like. darker in plot somehow. it mostly just looks like normal pretty series fare but for a good amount of shots i was like “WOW that seems a lot more grim than pripara usually gets in openings especially”

Hahaha, one thing that really bugs me in a lot of otome games--is that platonic or familial love is often neglected. It makes me sad that the MC often loses out on a very important emotional support system... (I know TWST isnt an otome game BUT same thing!) While Ace and Deuce are great characters... Ace isn’t very emotionally smart? Sensitive? Deuce can be, but he’s not someone you can complain too. He’ll think he has to respond physically to something. Grim isn’t someone you can tell your problems too either. Jack maybe, and I’m not so sure yet with Epel but he might be the type to say “suck it up” first before immediately panicking if you just look even more sad afterwards. Let’s not get started on Sebek lmao.

Another super personal headcanon too, but--I think Malleus might be someone who has the potential to fill in that platonic support. KdkkDkd. I also adore the idea of the MC having a platonically strong relationship with Vil. But also that’s sort of slipping into my personal desires and my oc’s own Twisted Wonderland adventure. Perhaps I’ll share it one day!!!

(I’ve gotten another idea for a really good story/scenario now!!! lDKDKDK I now have 30+ ideas... I only have one brain and one pair of hands--)

i love the fact that they can be headcannoned as anything, someone on discord (mice) mentioned them being aracial. which i find is the neatest thing! it makes people interpret the characters as how you want them to appear without there being any canon race/body types. it means every artist can have their own canon appearance.

personally, i have not yet thought TOO much about it racial wise, but i legit would accept any headcanon because everything is VALID. a few have even been very cool and i lowkey see it??? for example, soleil said something about dreadlocks jade and i am all here for that. i actually really love it. i think that one is my favourite. dark-skinned jade could also make sense for her living on an island in the pacific. which in itself, is a good reason for the headcanon, also because it is one very good concept. even if somebody headcanoned the other kids as either biracial/dark-skinned/and maybe for john, chinese, which all differs from most people’s interpretations of them all being white, i would probably be sold. i love diversity so much and i love to see it represented.

to me tho, i think i have a set theory on the body types for the kids. because those i have not yet heard about anywhere else, considering i am not browsing around unless its some things on my ask/discord/just me and kallie talking, so i had to think of that one. so here they are + a few more growing up without sburb headcanons:

i feel like john is short, he really is. and he’s also on the chubby side but not by much. he’s the one who probably is not very good at sports but for some reason, even with how much he sits on his ass playing video games and eating snacks, he physically cannot get taller as he would like. but here’s the thing. if we were discluding sburb and the whole game end of world thing, if they lived a normal life, and if he actually enrolled in highschool, he would somehow become buff. like bulky buff. at 13, he’s known as the chubby small guy who is deemed as a nerd, but damn does he get fit for no goddamn reason. just one summer, he comes back to school and nobody knows who this guy is, theyre asking if hes new or if he just has always been quiet and they had never noticed his presence, but no. its john egbert. he just hit puberty QUICK. over the span of a few months being in his room with no social interaction but talking to his friends online.

dave, he’s also very lanky but solely because i think he’s the lanky tall guy who had a growth spurt too early on in his childhood. he’s the kid parents think is the teacher’s assistant whenever he’s in the room, or the one who all the kids secretly think hes restarted 7th grade for 3 years in a row, when in reality, he’s just a very tall kid. not to mention that whenever teams are chosen for gym, he gets picks him first, every single goddamn time. and when he gets to high school (if we aren’t talking sburb again), he gets to a good 6′0 freshman year. 

rose, i feel she is more on the small chubby side. she’s short, but her appearance can make anybody intimidated solely because if you can imagine seeing a gothic small child coming your way, youd be a little frightened. but she enjoys that. when’s she’s older, of course, she puts out more on that gothic appeal and basically wears more clothes that teachers would fine “not designated for school attire”. its not because its very open, but more because its “starting to scare the other kids” but does rose care? no. she will take her grim outfits to the grave. she takes pride in what she wears no matter what people say.

jade, i see her as tall. very tall. she’s nearing dave’s height but just a little smaller, i think since i picture dave as the tallest. but she doesn’t care, she just loves wearing all these nice frilly clothes, its just difficult to find clothes for her height when she goes shopping, since they can never get it right for tall people. but because of that, i feel like she would be VERY good at physical activities, and she is b u f f. i feel like if she went to school, which im guessing she isnt due to where she grows up on the island, she would have been on the track team. solely because boy does that girl have legs. she’s the mix of skinny but muscly in that sense. not lanky but damn does this girl work out.

theyre all quite opposite i feel, and thats just how they friend group works.

Okay. So i just read your wip description and i need to know everything about Hyacinth and Ambrose like rn!!! Tell me all the things about them, both as individuals and how they interact with each other. I love them both already and your story sounds so gooddd

Ahhh thanks I really appreciate it! I don't have them fully fleshed out yet but I've got a pretty solid idea for both their personalities and their dynamic with each other.

I might have rambled a bit too much but oh well.

Just a note this world is like basically an au of real life so some of the history and things are going to be a bit different.

Okay so for Hyacinth first! Shes a college student (probably. though definitely 20-25 ish I'm thinking like 21-22 rn) who lives in a big city in a her own apartment that's pretty good for a college student (think full kitchen and living room and office but not that fancy). Her mom is dead (she died in an accident that that Hyacinth and her dad were also in when she was pretty young circa 5yrs) and her dad is kind of the detached corporate office worker type that isnt really good at being a parent but tries his best and supports all her needs (I might change him up a bit. But hes the reason she can live in a pretty good apt in a city they have a pretty ambivalent relationship. Not strained just a bit distant) her personality is the take no shit type and she is quite sassy and sarcastic (especially in response to ambrose's antics because god why) and pragmatic but she's also pretty kind and will help people who are in danger/ need help. Some of her character flaws though are that she tends to isolate when stressed, and doesn't maintain relationships (friendships, etc) well at all bc of that. anyways so she gets into an accident (type undefined currently) and nearly dies, cue Ambrose coming out of no where saying if she sells her soul to him she'll live, so she's like f this I want to live take my soul whatever that means, and hes like cool thanks. Ambrose showing up out of every corner god damn it ensues. Shes the level of annoyed of Jenna reacting to Julien doing nasty shit while she's trying to do productive things.

Okay now for ambrose! In this universe demons are kind of more like grim reapers. (When people die they go to the afterlife which is kind of like real life but its basically a holding cell between reincarnations. Also demons dont have access to it.) So demons are basically humans that gave up reincarnation. So for Ambrose he died in approx 1820 and has risen to be a quite high level demon despite that he's only been one for like 200 years. He's also changed history on a whim several times. He has a connection to one of hyacinths previous incarnations. Hes very much a benevolent trickster type and witty (I mean 200 years of wit guys that's a lot) also a bit sarcastic. One thing is that he's definitely a more behind the scenes worker and has definitely missed a lot of opportunities in both his moral and immortal life from being too passive/not wanting to ruin friendships/relationships. He is also way to attached to the British edwardian/early Victorian era fashion that he grew up with though he usually uses modern versions of it or mixes period pieces with modern ones.

Like I said before their relationship is very much a I'm being bothered by an annoying demon regularly but I'm obligated to tolerate him even though it's an inconvenience on Hyacinths side. On ambrose's side its more of a caring relationship with some past motivations and obligations playing into that. (I don't want to go too in depth on this its spoilers)

Anyway that's all I can think of off the top of my head if you have any other questions or need clarification I would be happy to answer but like I said this wip is still very much in the storyboarding/outlining phase!

Fire Emblem Heroes Book III,Initial Trailer First Impression: Spooky Scary Skeletons are 4 edgy 8 me

the long and short of it is that im pensively optimistic about what’s in store, especially from a story angle, but that theme song can go suck a donkey’s tit.

anyways, book III and it seems were gonna be doing the tango with spooky scary Victorian skeleton warriors and a scary lady with a big ass scythe. Fuck Yeah!

so ignoring the theme song since it’s just... fuckin awful or at the very least unfitting, lets get into this by first talking about

THE TRAILER

So I gotta admit, i enjoyed this one a lot more then book II right off the bat.

opening on some flowers, we immediately know that shits gonna get fucked but my story telling instincts are telling me that this might possibly, probably, definitely, be a metaphor for this characters happy childhood in her kingdom when it was not fucked however

shit got fucked, unsurprisingly. instead of the villain looming ominously overhead like fucking doctor claw or no-heart however, we get a shot of our new hero twirling into the villains strangely comforting embrace by accident which does get me curios since it might imply, heaven forefend, that she willingly sold out her kingdom or home or whatever to the devil here and now has to fight to get it back and correct her own mistake in some sort of possible and interesting character arc here? just my take on it anyways.

moving on, we get these idiots in the woods as the fuglyness of them gives me whiplash from the actually pretty rad looking duo earlier. I kid but seriously if lokis a 0-2, alfonse a 3-5, then the hero and villain of book 3 are at an 8-10 each. my point being, there is quite the contrast in my opinion. anyways, alfonse is looking sad lost and afraid and loki’s pouting since she probably gonna be barely relevant yet fucking intrusive again.

also veronicas just kind of there, and im getting a bit worried since we just got lokis douche smirk a few seconds ago and veronica just seems to kinda be there again.

the promotional shot, so shits about to get real again!

we get a nice shot of these two new lovely faces, doing the naruto run for a bit when the leading runner decides to pull out his fancy sword with an intense close up, definitely indicating that hes probably gonna be a blood knight of some sort. anyways he and alfonse begin to fight with blood knight pushing alfonse back and red energizer lady decides to fight

alfonse as well. man it is not alfonses day here is it? anyways, psychidelic drugs kickin at this point and the floor dissapears under alfonse as he starts to sink into sticky black goo well reaching out to sharena as-

oh?

oh! well, sharenas dead now and alfonse just can’t take the death of such a... memorable sister... and so he crys well the black goo decides to try and eat him if hes not gonna sink himself. this transitions us nicely to

our new hero looking into her dagger to see sad alfonse, and then she begins crying on a battlefield of weapons, with the heroes trios main weapons clearly in the fucking foreground implying they all died horrible deaths. quick, happy flashbacks to imply she, or you, or someone is thinking of all the good times!

oh hi mark

we get this nice panning shot of a battlefield littered with weapons, implying corpses, as the hero and villain of book III stare each other down with the villain being a smug fuckin asshole and the hero clearly ready to cut a skeleton bitch.

our hero does a slight turn of the knife, and looks determinedly ahead as the trailer cuts out.

so, aside from the theme song being kinda out of place in my opinion (like, i guess it works for being unsettling but it really does feel like some marketing exec being 8 edgy 16 me cause he thought the kiddies would like it) i rather enjoyed the trailer. it set up a lot more and teases a lot more interesting story elements and ideas then book II did, its grim oppressive atmosphere is nicely out of place in comparison to feh’s other stories, it’s just better shot and paced as a trailer, and the characters look like they have an interesting history going on. speaking of looks...

THE LOOK

cause i was not expecting to be digging the look as much as I do. well the fiber glass looking stuff, that i feel was intended to be spoopy etheral light, on the villians looks a bit cheap and silly and hides the skeleton bones a bit much requiring a second closer viewing to catch that they are spoopy skeletons, the overall look im really liking. 

the sword general especially has a get up that reminds me of a reanimated suit of armour and if they had leaned into that by giving him a helmet i think it would have been even better, but for what it is he looks pretty good and threatening. the other major complaint i have aside from them not leaning into him being a reanimated suit of armour by giving him a helmet is that his face looks to much like alfonse’s which annoys me. mind you, it could be leading into some sort of plot twist later on so if it is, all i can say is i hope it’s a good one.

the lady general looks the weakest of the three in terms of visual design, but thats not as bad as it could be since she still looks a hell of a lot better then anything book II produced. still, the red stuff hiding her skeleton bits looks the most like plexi glass. Although thats about the only thing i outright dislike on her, aside from not leaning into spoopy skeleton territory more, it really does hold her design back in my opinion. i mean, fucks sake make it look more like ethereal light, add some armour here and there if need be, and boom it would be another winner of a design.

hel here, the big bad, has no such problems however. I love every bit of this lady, and i dont even care that if the glowy bits of her were actual skin she would have a design that’d comfortably fit in with kill la kill. she’s a lady villain, which isnt a requirement but something im damn well happy with especially if she ends up being well written, and she has many things i love in villains and characters in general. grim reaper theme, Victorian goth aesthetic, a black, white, and purple colour scheme, tattered flowing cloths, long wavy hair, a threatening appearance and most importantly shes a spooky scarcy skeleton. a purple spooky, scary, skeleton. I will cherish you forever, and i am crossing my fingers and praying to you that your well written and entertaining. plz be good, plz be good, plz be good...

oh right, and the mandatory good guy/gal of the book. well that bit sounds dismissive, i honestly gotta say that im digging her a lot as well. shes not a spooky scary skeleton sadly, but the victorian gothic elements of her design work really well, and shes nicely distinct from the heroes trio this time unlike fjorm who was basically sharena 2.0. im gonna hope shes well written as well, so that i can seriously grow attached to the new hero this time cause from her design alone.

so yeah, looks wise im digging this a lot more and though the artist for this is clearly Yusuke Kozaki, an artist ive vocally disliked in relation to fire emblem for a while now, i feel ike his style works to much better effect here with the ridiculous bdsm Victorian gothic style and the darker colours.

GAMEPLAY STUFF

nothing particularly interesting to note, mythic heroes definitely sounds like a dumb cash grab and i dont feel the aether arena quite has the pull in terms of gameplay to justify hinging a new summoning type gimmick on.

on a much more important note though...

beast units, huzzah!!  and tibarn and nailiah seem to be some of the first ones up which is even better! not sure what the gameplay video is implying on how their gonna play though, since it seems a bit gimmicky and raises the question of how that gimmick might effect manateke units, but they are here so thats cool. bird pirate king is ready to roll!!!

OVERALL

all in all, from the look and what the trailer hints at alone, i am optimistic, but the caution comes with what sounds like very lukewarm gameplay deals which might not keep people hooked for very long. idk, im looking foreward to it but im not gonna be heartbroken if its third verse same as the first.

i was 100% thinking like man aslan sure reminds me of dumbledore.......he really is useless and rude in the books especially even on a smaller scale than his crap strategies. like someone will voice some completely reasonable concern and aslan will be like shut the fuck up and its like ???? try to be less of a cock to your subjects maybe. and he's completely terrible towards these schoolchildren also. when a wolf is trying to kill susan aslan is completely like hey i forbid anyone to help her except this slightly older kid who's never touched a sword in his life. he doesnt seem to have much concern re edmund not thinking he's just murdered god for having had the gall to talk to the first rando he stumbled upon. in fact, when all four kids are in narnia, edmund has all these hangups that are supposed to be signs of "evil" or whatever in not implicitly trusting the first songbird / talking animal they come across whereas the other kids have good-radar and all they need to do is follow their gut feelings to purity. like? ironic since trusting the first person he met in narnia was apparently his executionable mistake. but its all extremely reasonable to even be suspicious of weird folklorey rumors of aslan, some random lion no ones actually seen and who couldnt bother to come around to the world he created when its having problems. the witch may be evil or something but she's at least there, running things. and she hates christmas like bitch me too. ANYWAYS the "jesus sacrificing himself for the good of mankind" metaphor is very grim in this book too b/c? first of all edmund is like seven or something, and again all he did was talk to the first person he met in narnia. who told him she was in charge, and how is that any different from someone else being like, "no, some lion is in charge." lucy just happened to run into someone else who also wasn't exactly a hero except for deciding not to hand an even younger child over to be killed. like man, the standards. and then, besides edmunds Sin Of All Humanity being "ran into the wrong person," aslan's motivation isnt like "well i'll die for this kid and i guess everyone else out of love and junk" but because of some semantics argument? and those rules the whole world has to adhere to are so vague like, how is edmund a Traitor(tm) and literally everyone else isnt for any minor or accidental infraction? if the rules were put in place by narnia-god, how did the witch end up with the supreme authority to execute traitors? did someone not think that would be a problem. and anyhow aslan is like "guess i'll die" apparently after being forced into it by legalese and then he's all whiny about it like yeah it sucks but anyways its a lot less warm and fuzzy than any sacrifice out of love. also, he couldve stood to like, tell someone he wasnt going to show up the next morning instead of sneaking away from the army he was commanding in the middle of the night and having some dryads or someone just drop that news on his preteen second in command the morning of battle apparently did i mention how rude aslan is about people being like "hey aslan this doesnt make sense" or "hey aslan can i ask a question" like! maybe you could be AT ALL USEFUL and then the children you yanked over here might not be bothering you with all their concerns. at least dumbledore is polite to children's faces. and then aslan effs off again and only appears to tiny children in the middle of the night and everyone who is reasonably unsure about it is being a jerk, instead of being understandably suspicious that aslan mcnohelp has bothered to help out, as he could do at literally any time. they can summon the same english schoolkids but theres no way to get in touch with aslan........narnia has to suck. even those kid monarchs just disappear one day? how was that experience when they suddenly regressed at least a decade in age and went from monarchs to awkward houseguests again with a similarly unhelpful great uncle who couldve told them narnia is real. what did all those narnians think happened when their entire govt just never came back. i havent read any of the books recently enough to remember. also, that three-tiered jesus-must-be-god argument lewis tried to sneak in there is bullshit. youre bullshit, lewis. i do think its funny he put in the lamp to spite tolkien but at least gandalf is fucking helpful and treats everyone with respect and not as pawns or anything, and even though he's the Comes And Goes At Random type character, he at least shows up and stays showing up when shit gets real and doesnt eff off on purpose. these aslan/dumbledore types... one fun fact abt the book though that i hadnt thought of in ages is that the witch's forces are called the "police" and thats like one of the rare times an Evil Persons Enforcement is referred to as such and not like army or some made up term
