Can we just talk about Hayden’s physical performance in Obi Wan Kenobi for a minute?

There have been now, what, 5 or 6 actors portraying Vader?  Dave Prowse (Legend!), Bob Anderson (fight choreographer and stand in), Spencer Wilding and Daniel Naprous (both Rogue One). and a host of other stuntmen and stand ins. And while Prowse was the creator of Vader’s iconic movements (the two-handed belt grip, the choke, the STRUT--ya’ll know what I mean), every actor who has played his since has had their own unique touch on the physical character. Hayden Christiansen is absolutely no exception, and damn if he hasn’t stamped his own uniqueness on the character.

Keep in mind to, this is a YOUNGER Vader than the others. Vader at this time is only 33 years old, he still a very young man. Hayden’s physicality represents that perfectly. I especially noticed his subtle use of jerky motions-- the head turn when he finally senses Obi Wan, the way he rises from his throne (HAVE I MEANTIONED THEY GAVE VADER A MFING THRONE ON MUSTAFAR??? OH HELP ME, I HAVE THE VAPORS). And the strut, THE STRUT! The way he comes down those stairs from his bacta tank...There’s almost a glide to his step now, and yet it’s still heavy and menacing, like he’s floating and stomping at the same time. And they way he uses his hands, the claw-like crush, the slow movements that suddenly burst with rage. Then there’s the way he stands-- so tall and proud, but there’s just a subtle tension in his shoulders and torso, like someone who is in AGONY but doesn’t want to show it. 

I absolutely LOVE what he’s doing with Vader, I think it’s a fantastic performance, and I hope hope hope we will see more as the show progresses. Hayden Christiansen has always been a physical actor, and his performance here has really taken Vader to a whole new level.

I mean just look at it!!!!

It is such a perfect blend of classic Hayden Anakin and Clone Wars Anakin. And not only that, but I was looking at it, and it literally made my eyes sting because of how good and evocative it is. His eyes, the details of the brushstrokes, the colors, his hair... Literally everything about this just speaks to me. I think I put this in a tag but this piece literally feels like everything Anakin was, and everything he could've been. I just need to scream because I love it so much

YES YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN AND SHOULD SCREAM ABOUT THIS PIECE SAM!! I've LOVED @uzuriartonline's work FOREVER, but this piece? Where we get to see Anakin as he was during The Clone Wars? IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I am right there with you. Seeing Hayden in this armor and the determination in his eyes makes me EMOTIONAL and I love everything about it. Every detail from his curls down to the scratches on his armor are PERFECTION. Thanks so much for sending this in!

I love the parallels between the dowels and this episode and the dowels in twilight of the apprentice. From some of the lines that both Asoka and Obi wan said and Vader's mask getting sliced in the same spot. Seeing the way both Asoka and Obi wan called out to anakin before accepting that he was beyond redemption was heartbreaking. Both incredibly well done and incredibly emotional.
