Headcanon: how the potc characters would react if you hugged them🫂🏴‍☠️

Jack sparrow

Jack would be on the deck of the pearl trying to turn the wheel when you come up with a smile.

"Aye love, come up here to enjoy the view?".

You would run up to him gripping your arms around his shoulders.

Jack would stand stiff and become slightly confused but then later slowly hug you back.

He would stand there awkwardly "did I do something darlin".

You would smile and look into Jack's eyes saying "your the best damn captain there ever is".

Jack would smile to himself and hug you back before turning the wheel.

Hector barbossa

So to say the least he isn't used to hugs, more or less any contact.

He would be in his cabin staring at the gold he got over the years.

You would come in with a smile "whatcha doin' smilin' lass".

He would be slightly confused but as you wrap your arms around him, he would stiffen.

"Uh...girly" he would be awkward to say the least.

You wouldn't care because this man meant so much to you.

Slightly he would pat your head and you would still smile "sorry cap'n your amazing".

He would smile softly but not before showing his tough exterior "ya best be off Missy, the deck ain't gonna scrub itself".

Will turner

Will would be soft and passionate, he would be looking over deck while jack is keeping an eye out and Elizabeth is talking to the crew.

You would softly smile to will and wander up to him.

"Y/n, your safe" he smiled softly.

The next thing he knew was arms coming around him, you wrapped him around his shoulders.

Will would be more loose and hug you back thinking he's grateful to see you.

"Don't worry, your not a bad person y/n, your amazing".

Will would be more comfortable hugging you.

Henry turner

Henry is super energetic and passionate, he was glad you agreed to help get his father back.

You were sitting on the side of the pearl while Jack, Carina and barbossa were off checking the area.

You come up to henry with a smile and wrap your arms around his shoulders.

"You alright y/n, don't worry the sea life gets better" he joked.

Henry would of course hug you back.

He would smile to himself as he hugs you.

James norrington

He is very proper and hugging is slightly out of the mannerisms he's used to.

You would come up and wrap your arms around him.

He would be shocked to say the least and stiffen.

"Is there something you need my lady" he would question.

He would awkwardly bring his arms up and hug you back.

You would be glad to be in his grasp.

He would slightly smile to himself, he would finally find someone who could bring him happiness.

Davey jones

So davey is cut off from human contact ever since he was cursed.

You would be a lost soul drifted at sea and he would slightly take a liking to you but he wouldn't show it.

If you wrapped your arms around him, he would stiffen.

It's been a while, he wouldn't know what to do other then think it's a joke.

"What in the seven seas are ya doin' lass" he sneered.

Davey would bring pat you slightly, it will take a long time to get used to.

Phillip swift

You were captured and when Phillip was alright you would run up and hug him.

You wrapped your hands around his shoulders.

He would hold you in his grasp and basically do a passionate hold.

He would say "your gods gift to me".

He would at least be very warm and open to you hugging him.

Joshamee gibbs

You saw Gibbs as a father figure ever since you joined Jack and the crew.

You felt like you could share your feelings with him and he would be sympathetic.

If you wrapped your arms around him, he would be shocked at first but then slowly warm up to you.

"Don't worry lass, things be gettin' better" he would smile.

He would be more fatherly and warm to you.

・When you were apart, time felt like it was going by too quickly. James was yearning for you, his heart thudding whenever he thought about you.

・After running into each other three separate times, being away from you was too much to bear.

・Eyes looking into eyes. Hands caressing the smallest part of bare skin. Both of you were breathless.

・But you had to keep this from your crew. From the rest of the pirate community.

・If they knew you were together with someone from the law, no one would trust you.

・Your nickname for him is 'wig,' since he always wears that awful powdered white wig. You've told him how terrible it is, but he sees it as another badge for his status.

・Being together means you become more open-minded. You see things from each other's point of views.

・You love the way he becomes so flustered when you whisper in his ear. He always thanks the good god in heaven that he's wearing sleeves because goosebumps erupt as well.

・When he whispered, "I love you," for the first time, you couldn't breathe. This wasn't supposed to go so far. But it did. It has.

I love your take on potc characters and your headcanons for them. It’s just amazing. If it’s not a bother, I was wondering how do you think those characters would be as a parent? I mean we haven’t seen much parenting even for those that had kids in canon.

Ok so I actually have a few posts about this for James (hc)(hc)(hc) and Barbossa (fic) but! I can always expand. I also have one for Beckett (hc) since I'm obsessed with the idea.

Jack – Oh god. This is such an interesting question, because I firmly believe that Jack is actively against having children. He really and truly cannot fathom the idea of having kids of his own and being torn between caring for them on land where they can lead good lives and being at sea where he himself is happy. It’s a moral conflict he just can’t bring himself to face. His idea of what a child’s life should be like is shaped by his relationship with Teague and the ways in which he recognizes his own childhood lacked structure and support. He knows he can’t be the parent he needed when he was younger, and is thus against having children at all. If he were to have kids of his own, he would have to make the painstaking decision to leave them on land. A pirate ship is no place to raise a child; it’s dangerous and unpredictable. In his eyes, the best place for a kid to grow up is in a place of more stability, where they might have a better chance at finding a legitimate profession and keep themselves out of the trouble Jack has lived in his whole life. Rather than having biological kids, I can more see him acting as a sort of father-figure to a lot of young boys who end up working on the Pearl, teaching them the ropes and watching as they grow in their abilities and confidence.

Elizabeth – Elizabeth would be an interesting parent to have, for sure. I think her relationship with motherhood would be something very complex. For one, she has nothing to go off of, having had no mother of her own for most of her life. With her father gone, she can’t ask his advice, either. She’s such a fiercely independent and active person, too, that mothering may feel like an obstacle for her sometimes. That being said, I think she loves her children dearly and wants to do her absolute best for them. She teaches them all she knows—from proper behavior at formal functions to sword-fighting multiple enemies at once. She’s going to have the most well-rounded kids of all time, tbh. I’ve always kept this image in my mind of her showing up to a meeting of the Brethren Court with a kid just strapped to her front in a sling across her chest, and nobody says a damn thing. This also works as a method of volume control because nobody dares raise their voice and make the baby cry. I have an intrinsic need to see this happen, actually. I love the idea of her kids having pirate baby-sitters half the time when she needs to do something dangerous; Pintel and Ragetti act as honorary uncles, Barbossa as a granddad. Jack is the wine aunt. In all, her kids probably lead a kind of busy, chaotic life with people coming and going throughout their childhoods, but they have ties to an abundance of people who simply adore them. 

James – The most devoted, doting father ever. James is terrified to mess things up as a parent, and is always worrying that he won’t be any good at it. He adores his children and has unparalleled dedication to them. He wants them to have a good scholarly education, something he never had, but if they choose the military over school, he’ll personally oversee as much of their training as he can. He’s a deeply caring father, too. Though not good at expressing his own feelings, he’ll do anything for his children when they need him. He wants them to feel safe when coming to him, something he could never do with his own father. He makes sure to spend quality time with his kids doing things that aren’t school or work, instead playing games or taking them out riding or reading to them. When the kids are young, he’ll take naps with them on his chest, holding them close. He recognizes that he may have to be absent for long periods of time due to the nature of his job, and it tears at him. His greatest fear is going to sea for months while his children are still relatively little and coming home to find that they don’t remember him. Thus, he works hard to be as present as possible while he’s home, wanting desperately to make a positive impact on their lives. 

Will – Honestly, I feel like Will would make the most sane parent. After resolving things with his own father, he’s one of the people with the fewest daddy issues, and actually has a dad to ask questions of when he needs advice. Will feels like a very relaxed parent, not putting a lot of pressure on his kids. He was poor for most of his life, and though he wants better for his children than he had for himself, he also knows that happiness can be found working simple jobs. He’s very open to his children’s wishes and interests, and he’ll support them in pretty much damn anything. He definitely advises not becoming a pirate, though. Assuming the curse has lifted for him by the time he has children, he spends a lot of time with them. If it hasn’t, then he exploits loopholes and just has his kids come aboard the Dutchman as often as possible. He wants to be a presence in the lives of his children, and takes active steps to ensure it. I think he’s a little in awe as he watches them grow up, so impressed by all the things they accomplish, doing things he’d never even dreamed of when he was their age. He’s their number one hype man, too. 

Beckett – I have…feelings about Beckett as a father. He’s not a particularly present one, given that he has zero knowledge on how to take care of kids. There’s a nanny, no question. He doesn’t really know how to properly bond with his children, but does ensure that they get the best education possible and that they have access to a wealth of resources. Especially as the children start to get older and enter society properly, he has a good time with them making snarky commentary about the social scene. Sass is the name of the game. Speaking of games, I do see him as the type to enjoy chess, and he feels a wave of pride whenever his kids beat him. He’s overprotective and possessive—he refuses to let his children suffer in fear as he did when he was their age. He has Mercer with them as a bodyguard whenever they leave the house. If anything happens to his kids, Beckett is not above having the person responsible killed. I think he has a certain terror of being alone, and though he’s not the best at socializing with his children, he never truly wants them to leave.  

Barbossa – Hector is another doting father. He’s led a rough life, and though he doesn’t want that for his children, he’s not above taking them to sea when they grow old enough to sail. Before that, though, he leaves them on land with someone else, coming to visit every so often bearing gifts from all the places he’s been in the meantime. He can afford some degree of comfort for his children, too, and he certainly doesn’t spare that expense—if he can’t be there for his children, they’ll want for nothing else, dammit. Barbossa can’t give up his pirating ways to raise his kids on land himself, which is unfortunate, but the truth. If they do choose to go to sea, he takes them on as cabin-boys (or girls, he doesn’t give a fuck), and lets them learn and progress just like everyone else. I think he’d be happy to have them around, though a little concerned for their welfare. He knows better than anyone how dangerous a life at sea can be. Still, he isn’t too worried; he’s a realist if nothing else, and knows that there are chances for both good and bad. He puts effort into teaching his children and making sure they’re safe and cared for, but he’s a bit more hands-off than some of the others so his kids don’t feel like they’re suffocating. He lets them learn things for themselves, but makes sure they know they always have a (sort of) stable place to return to should they need it.

I've been a writer for 6 years, and writing is my passion and pirates of the caribbean is my hyperfixation. I've been researching about the 18th century because of the pirates of the caribbean, and I wish to continue that trend. By all means, I'm no historian, but the timeline fascinates me.

I think I know why Jack shooting Barbossa worked.

TLDR: moonlight resets the flesh facade. When it isn't reset prior to becoming mortal, Barbossa dies.

So even though they're affected by the curse during non-moonlight hours, they're only skeletal under the moonlight. And as observed, their flesh, whether more of a facade or truely, physically there, is susceptible to pain (ie with Pintel and Raghetti getting hot coals dropped on them during the Sack of Port Royal). The only sensations they don't feel are the pleasurable ones.

So we know Barbossa at the very least felt the shot. And if we take what Will and Elizabeth did too the three pirates they fought, we know that the flesh disappears in the moonlight and reappears once they are out of it. Hence why they were able to stick the skeletons together, stick a bomb in the ones ribcage, and have it blow them to smithereens.

The moon is the key here. Barbossa is shot, doesn't move, and Will puts the last two coins in the chest. Barbossa remains fleshy, he doesn't expose himself to moonlight. Hence, he became mortal with a gaping chest wound. The flesh finally became affected, as evidenced by him feeling the cool night air ("I'm... cold"). Meaning, blood flow is returning (as it appears that it wasnt present while cursed) and since Barbossa can't just step into the moonlight to reset his chest wound, he dies.

We see the same affect with Pintel. Pintel is shot by Barbossa to see if the curse is lifted with Elizabeths blood. He has a hole visible through his clothes, a theoretically he should die or at least be injured once the curs is broken. But there is no such evidence. Why? Because unlike Barbossa, Pintel was exposed to moonlight and became skeletal. And when he got his flashback, the wound was gone. From this wr can conclude the moonlight is what caused the wound to disappear, and had Barbossa stepped into it, he would've survived. But he didn't, so he died.

Cuddling With Hector Barbossa Would Include

Expect him to be reluctant at first. Like really reluctant. He’ll think he’s above that sort of thing and it’s too soft for a pirate to do.

But oh boy when you convince him that first time to let you cuddle with him for a few minutes, something in him just snaps.

He actually really likes it. He’s touch starved as all hell and hasn’t even realized it until you’re cuddled in nice and cozy beside him.

Of course, he still tries to play it off as something he doesn’t enjoy, and begrudgingly only does for you, but you see through it easy enough.

You’ve noticed he prefers to cuddle late at night, where there’s a very reduced risk of being caught and interrupted. And you’re fine with that, as it’s a wonderful way to end your night with him.

Some thoughts on the choice of Carina Smyth's first name

Ngl even though there are many things I don't like about DMTNT, I think that Carina is like one of the best names that could be chosen for Barbossa's daughter. It sounds like a pretty regular name at first, but I think the backstory is what makes it actually a really great choice.

"Carina" is the name of a star constellation which is also known as "keel of the ship". In the german dub of the movie this is actually made more obvious, as Carina says that she's named after said star constellation, whereas in the original she says the the brightest star in the north (which is part of the constellation) gave her her name. Being named after a star constellation which resembles a ship (or at least a part thereof), her name is connected to both the stars and the sea, two focal points in Barbossa's life as a pirate and as a captain. He's a man of the sea and an exceptional navigator, and I think it's safe to assume that he has a very good knowledge of astronomy, particularly for navigational purposes. As he said himself, he knows which stars to follow home.

I like to think that Barbossa consciously chose his daughter's name because of its meaning. However, we unfortunately don't know under which conditions it was chosen, since we simply don't have enough information about his and Margaret Smyth's relationship. How many months before the birth did he learn that he was going to be a father? Were he and Margaret able to prepare for the changes in their lives that might come with having a child, did they make any plans for the future? Did they think up names together, and he suggested Carina, should they have a daughter? Or did Hector just return to land one day to learn his partner had died while he was at sea, and left him a child, and he had to come up with a name on the spot and the first thing that came to his mind were the star constellations?

I kind of doubt that we will get any canonical answers to those questions, so they are left to the realm of headcanons. I personally like to imagine that Barbossa chose the name carefully, and because of what it meant to him personally. Even though he kind of said in the movie that he never wanted his daughter to be associated with pirates (which happens to include himself), I think as her father he still wanted to make at least one meaningful impact on her life, which happened to be the choice of her name. Maybe also, in that way he would never forget her, since whenever he observed the sky and saw the star constellation Carina, he would also think of his daughter.

Barbossa is many things, but Jack Sparrow he is not. He is a devoted man who would only have eyes for his true treasure.

I would say he has never been cheated on less. He was a love sick fool and gone after a wench.

There is a storyline in an rp I'm doing where hector is battling cutler beckett over his beloved, heh 😅.

He celebrated it by flirting with a lass or two having a "bedmate" in the faithful bride.

Or spending a rendezvous evening with his beloved lady of the seas inside his prized possession. Dinner, the sea, the pearl, and her.

He would flaunt his gestures and affection in over exaggurating ways. It would make anyone feel like their the treasure of his eye.

Yes. He's a passionate over-dramatic sea dog. Romance comes to his mind before lust, meaning he would romance the heavens out of anyone who catches his eye. He would only seek it when he needs to, perhaps not awhile his crew's are about or in a dangerous situation when the helm's needed.

30. would your muse ever be in an open/non-exclusive relationship? would it make them insecure, or would they be open to trying it?

Nope. Barbossa is possessive through and through. He wouldn't let someone touch his valuable loot or coffer. The man's jealousy would be through the roof.

listen we all know that Jack Sparrow is just about the most touch-starved person in the Caribbean who will constantly grab and lean on people as a form of casual intimacy, but to go along with that I raise you this: Barbossa is simultaneously touch-starved and hates being touched. He is constantly in an inner battle between “keep your grubby hands off me, wretch” and “please for the love of god someone hug me I’m so lonely” because he’s just not used to physical intimacy nor is he emotionally prepared to attempt it. To add ANOTHER layer to this, Jack was just about the only person who ever managed to actually get to the point of being able to touch Barbossa without him getting weirded out because of how close they were pre-COTBP

Potc headcanon:

Saying "I love you" for the first time 💖

Jack sparrow

You would be joining him on one of his adventures, one night while out on the boat. The crew members were asleep.

Jack would probably be out on the wheel with rum.

You would be the one to tell Jack "I love you".

Jack would at first think its a joke but later when you mean it you hoped he wouldn't leave you like he did with most wemon.

Jack would be conflicted at first but later he would accept it and for the first time accept you as his true love.

Will turner

Will is a bit more easier then Jack or barbossa.

Will would be warmer to be accepting and mean it when he says it.

When he hears you say "I love you".

He would genuinely passionately kiss you and mutter it back.

Will is way more loyal and he would vow to love you.

Will would accept your feelings, he's alot more warmer and definitely would make you the centre of his universe.

Henry turner

I would definitely say henry is the most sweetest out of the characters.

Henry is accepting of anything you do, he would be like a puppy dog.

Henry would try to hang around you and genuinely want you to join you.

If you say "I love you".

He would give you a bright smile and is happy to at least have his feelings accepted.

He would be sweet and joyous towards your confession.

Hector barbossa

So to say the least he isn't really used to people just confessing out of the blue.

He will be very conflicted.

He wouldn't exactly be warm more he would hope your joking.

He only ever knew the sea before you came along and disturbed his equilibrium.

I can see if you say "I love you".

He would accept it but still be conflicted.

Okay, bear with me for a minute tho—imagine little eight year old Henry Turner hanging out with his two uncles Hector and Jack one day, and he asks Jack “How did you meet my mother and father?”, and Jack and Barbossa kinda just awkwardly look at one another before Jack tries to explain.

Before very long, it spirals into an argument between the two over the marooning amongst other things, and by the time the two are settled down enough, Henry has long since scurried out of the room.

On the topic of a glorious age returning, what do YOU think the potc characters of your choosing would react to their s/o flashing their.. bare ankles?? Obviously they wouldn’t be able to flash their tits with those godforsaken corsets so I guess that their bare ankles would be the most efficient and provocative way to flash ppl for that time 😂 (Btw this is before they’re married maybe like courting or engaged?) Maybe they quickly turn away, try their best to pull the skirt back down, etc? -🦑

Jack – Obviously, Jack isn’t much shocked. He does, however, enjoy the display, and appreciates the effort. In fact, he encourages it. He teases about it, hoping that you’ll simply redouble your efforts. He’s pretty good at pretending he isn’t affected, but the implications of your actions excite him a little more than he’d like to admit. As a pirate, Jack isn’t bound by the same laws of propriety as other people, and he isn’t above indulging himself in you behind closed doors. Don’t be surprised when he wraps an arm around your waist and tells you how tempted he is to slide a hand up your skirt. Still, he’s playing the part of the flirt, and it may take you a while to see through the facade and figure out how much impact your actions truly have. 

Elizabeth – It surprises her a bit, that you would let her see you like that, but she finds it exciting. She’s the type to enjoy this sort of flirtation, viewing it like a secret game between the two of you to see who could get away with the most scandalous display. It’s an instant challenge. She’s going to pay you back as soon as she gets the opportunity, pulling up her skirt to fix the tie on her shoe or adjust a buckle. She makes sure to clock your reaction, too. She wants you to know that she’s equally interested, and that she’s willing to put in an equal effort. Behind closed doors, she’ll cave, stealing kisses and telling you just how pretty your little show was. 

Will – He’s flustered, to say the least. It has less to do with seeing your ankles and more to do with the idea that you’d flirt with him in the first place. Given the fact that Will grew up in poverty, he’s probably seen women's ankles before in taverns, so it isn’t something shocking to him. He’s much more surprised by your interest in him—he hasn’t really considered himself a person of much romantic potential, so he’s a bit perplexed by the effort you’re putting in. Even if you’re already engaged, he’s bashful about it, but views it as something more playful than seductive. He has a weapon of his own, though; he gets to roll up his sleeves in the forge or when he’s sword training and expose his forearms, so watch out. 

James – Let’s not lie: James is a little scandalized. It’s a true test of his self-control to not react, especially if this is in public. He’s a bit conflicted: on the one hand, he feels like it’s a part of you he shouldn’t be seeing; on the other hand, he’s flustered because he realizes that you want him to see you. He tries very hard to repress his thoughts concerning the matter, and is ashamed to have to admit to himself how distracted you can get him. He’s equally ashamed of his inability to face the awkwardness of bringing it up. He feels like he should ask you to stop, but in doing so, he doesn’t want to make you feel poorly. He also isn’t entirely sure he actually wants you to stop, and is mortified by that fact. If the two of you end up getting a little frisky when alone and you bring it up, expect him to flush bright red and bury his face in your neck with embarrassment, finally admitting in a hoarse whisper the affect you had on him. 

Beckett – He’s definitely smug. He’s more intrigued than shocked—he finds it interesting that you would choose to flirt with him in this way, but he isn’t going to discourage it. He’d never admit it, but it does have an effect. He’s curious to see exactly how far you’ll go to attempt a seduction. He wants to frustrate you a bit, see you try multiple tactics, test if you’re going to give up. If you persist, he’s honestly rather impressed, and he’ll make sure you know exactly how much he enjoyed your act; he’ll tease you and say that you really didn’t have to go so far, but since you were so insistent on being such a hussy, he wasn’t about to stop you.

Barbossa – Honestly, this has little effect beyond amusement. He can deal with seeing your ankles; he’s had his fair share of experience, and it doesn’t incite the same amount of arousal as it might have twenty years ago. Instead, his appreciation lies in the fact that you’re making your interest explicitly clear, and that you’re attracted enough to a man his age to actually stage a seduction. Like Jack, he doesn’t have to operate under the same rules of propriety on his ship, and can instead indulge a little. When the two of you are alone in his cabin, he’ll give you a wink and admit he liked the view. I think he leaves it up to you whether you want to take things further, or if you just enjoy flashing him for a bit of fun.

• “You ought to remember, I’m an immortal being as well as a lone pirate. I’m close to a thousand years old. I know I don’t look like it, but I am.”

• Jack Sparrow stood and stared in awe while you begin to feel the tug of regret of telling him the longer he remained silent, but to your surprise, he had only nice things to say about what you revealed

Hello! I saw your requests are open, and I was wondering if you could write some headcanons either for Hector Barbossa or Davy Jones. I recently rewatched PotC and somehow fell for both of them <3 I can't really decide between them though, so I'll leave the choice to you for which of them you want to write (of course you can also do both but I don't want to ask for too much)

For the scenario I don't have anything specific in mind, I'd appreciate any cute fluff honestly. If you want some kind of guideline, maybe something along the lines "how they express their love for their s/o" (the reader can be female or gender-neutral), but if you have a different idea feel free to write that instead^^

Barbossa X Reader Fluff Headcannons

Barbossa, for all his grandeur and posturing, doesn't actually want you to be the meek pushover kind of partner.

He's an unrepentant drama queen with a childish streak and a love of games. If anything, what he wants is a partner with enough gumption to meet his antics head on.

AKA he wants to argue with you enough that you steal his hat, run around his cabin with him in hot pursuit and then snog under the stars once he catches you. Yknow. #JustCaptainThings

He's going to be dramatic 24/7. It's just his nature at this point. You can't change it. Jack is insane, Norrington is noble, Jones has a pout strong enough to put the sea itself on the housing market and Barbossa is waxing lyrical at the wheel while you turn a spectacular shade of red and the crew desperately avoids eye contact.

You're getting draped in the spoils of the pirate hoard whether you want it or not. Just waking up absolutely draped in pearls and jewels while he parses the rest of the stash for the right shade of silk to match your eyes.

He's a touchy guy. Wants you close by at all times if not all but draped over him. Will not hesitate to pull you into his lap. Get comfy.

If somebody has to gall to disrespect you he has two modes:

1. You deal with the offender yourself while he watches from the top railing - all but hollering 'That be my WIFE/HUSBAND/PARTNER!' and yeeting the nearest hat into the ocean as you break your assailants noses.

2. You're overpowered and he strides in with a spitting fury, pistols smoking as the offenders drop like bloody flies. 'That-' he seeths, sword drawn and held to quivering throats, '-be my Wife/Husband/Partner you mangy disgrace of a half-drunken curr.'

If Jack so much as blinks fliratiously at you Barbossa won't peel himself from your side for over a week.

Davy Jones X Reader Fluff Headcannons

It's barely noticable, the fact that you're together.

You can't blame him for keeping his distance and reputation up around the crew, his last disastrous attempt at love was quite literally the stuff of legend after all.

In private however, it's different.

He's getting more and more comfortable with letting you touch him - running gentle hands over coral growths, crab claw and eventually, his beard. Letting your facination and awe chip away at centuries of self loathing bit by bit.

He has a harsh exterior but the moments of softness, when they happen, steal your breath enough that you seriously reconsider that cutting his heart out dulled his feelings in any way.

He's teaching you how to navigate. Both via maps and by the stars. It always ends up more as cuddling and quiet conversation.

While you're on deck, Maccus (the Hammerhead shark first mate) will sometimes order you to the captains cabin. These orders aren't from Jones, who Maccus knows will avoid help until the sea boils into mist, but becuase the first mate has already recognised that you're good for eachother and he's sick of his Captain wallowing in self pity.

Maccus knows exactly what's going on between you two and is just praying that you hurry up and kiss in front of the crew already so he can stop covering for you both. A+ wingman first mate, honestly.

Over time, Jones's organ playing stops being endless renditions of Calypso's song and his theme for the Kracken, and instead shift to a new tune, one you and the crew are unfamiliar with.

It takes you weeks before you realise the halting notes and muttered scribbling is him composing you a song.

The first time the clear, bellowing notes of the organ boom out over the sea for you is the first time you see him smile to himself without a shred of malice and your hearth does a backflip - becuase That is the expression you vowed to bring about as much as humanly possible.

If you're apart, then letters. So many letters. Letters in little bottles, letter tied to floatring barrels, letters in bottles carried by octopi becuase the Kracken commands many tiny minions, letters that are smudged and spotty and full of love he can never seem to express in person. You send yours back the same way and they're guaranteed to reach him, no matter where the Dutchman is.
