#karen's actress is italian... maybe karen is too... she's a civilian but mike gets roped into it bc ted is more involved as an accountant.#her family loves him and ted loves money and being able to provide for his family and all that Macho Family Man^tm stuff and#sure karen wants mike to do big things—bigger than just messing around with his friends—but she isn't sure that having him get#chummy with her family is the right idea. mike does it anyway bc it's what he's Supposed To Do and he's Getting Older and karen#thinks well... okay... if this is what you want... ❤️ and mike just nods and agrees like he always does bc thts easier than speaking up#or trying to figure out what the hell to do after uni and Much less scary than working on that book he's been working on since forever.#will's a civilian ofc he gets brought along to mike's family things bc mike wants the company but he doesn't Like that world and the#way they look at him. whenever lonnie used to get fired from whatever job he was working at then he'd end up doing ''favors''#for one of the other families and even though will's nothing like his father and he and his brother and his mom aren't even remotely#involved in that kind of life he still has his last name and it's a brand tht sticks. smth smth the romeo n juliet vibes of it all....#in this au maybe hopper hasn't been reformed bc there's no tragedy to pull him out of that so maybe he's on the wheelers' payroll#and he has a daughter tht they want to introduce to mike... smth smth mike going to will's apartment in the dead of night to get#patched up.. smth smth mike taking el to things instead of will.. smth smth will and mike getting into A Big Fight bc will doesn't#want to see mike continue to get hurt or lose himself in this world and become this person that he doesn't even recognize anymore#and mike starts goading him like oh why do you care so much huh blahblah and they've been dancing around this all their lives#but it finally comes out and it doesn't fix anything bc will doesn't want This mike and mike can't stand the way will looks at him now and#will storms out after having said the unspeakable.. goes somewhere and gets caught in the crossfire.. cue the body pulled from the quarry#parallel when el calls him immediately after she finds out from hopper and there's a horrible few hours where they don't kno if will's#gonna pull thru. he does ofc much to their surprise.. wake up calls n apologies are eventually had... hurt/comfort ensues.. mike talks#to karen and opens up for the first time ever bc they've gotten closer now.. smth smth um . gay people 🫶#mike in suits n gloves + will learning to not ask questions + el seeing tht will's apartment looks more like it's will-And-mike's#apartment bc there's so much of him and his things there and he always walks in n moves around like he owns the place +#will's hands shaking as he tries to tend to mike and he manages to keep it together until mike's all patched up but when he turns around#to clean up his shoulders are shaking and mike jus comes up behind him n hugs him through it bc he knows this hurts will more than it hurts#him (which is saying smth bc mike's blood is literally all over will's hands n dinner table rn so like)#SOOOOO self-indulgent but idc im free . (<- said thru gritted teeth and while closing my eyes so i don't have 2 look at this post)#also i say brainrot but i think tht has bad connotations now. i am just an Enjoyer a Lover a Scholar an Enthusiast one might even say..#mine

hi hi! it me, leonie ( mariangels mun ), with my second muse luna! unlike mari who’s a total lawful good, luna is more of a mixture of chaotic good and chaotic neutral who’s very much just starting out in life because her mom’s a cray cray rich lady. more on that below, pals. feel free to leave a LIKE and i’ll come to you for plots! OR! feel free to message me on discord at ( emeravdes#9932 ) since i’m not in the gc bc i get overwhelmed very easily. thanks for coming to my ted talk & feel free to read this ridiculously long essay i’ve come up with. <3 @frostfordstart
Tumblr media
TW: MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE
full name: luna raquel santos
nicknames: lu, lulu or raquel (but only her grandparents call her that bc they hate the fact that her parents named her luna lol)
birthday: april 30th
current age: twenty six
sexuality: bisexual, panromantic
personality (+): benevolent, adventurous, free spirited, appreciative, energetic, fun loving
personality (-): sheltered, reckless, outspoken, stubborn, envious, attention seeking
luna was born and raised in frostford to yuliana and marcos santos - both of which are of brazilian roots but their families have been living in the us for decades. her family is rich rich and it stems back for a few decades. don’t ask me how they made their fortune because i actually have no clue as of right now. we working on it.
she was the youngest child and only daughter to yuliana and marcos which meant that she was instantly their pride and joy. their princess. their doll.
she has two older brothers - jax (32) and santiago (35) - who love their little sister to pieces and have never really been a big fan of the way their mother treats luna,
INCOMING MOMMY ISSUES
yuliana was the kind of girl that wanted to be in pageants growing up but her family never allowed her the chance because they valued education over anything that had to do with glamour despite having the money to blow on the fancy aspects. so! the moment yuliana found out that she was having a daughter, she was ECSTATIC. she could finally get to live the life of pageants that her parents robbed her of and she was thriving.
so comes my baby luna
from the moment she was born, her mother had her in fancy dresses and from the moment that she could walk, yuliana made sure that her daughter could perfect the pageant walk before she could perfect walking like a normal human being. if she did something right, she’d drown luna in affection. if she did something wrong, she’d scowl and tell her to do it again. often times this resulted in her crying - especially when she was still a toddler.
over the course of her childhood, she continued with the pageant life and slowly it became something that she lived and breath. she felt like it was the best way to connect with her mother and a part of her really did have a love for the whole ordeal. for a while. by the time she was eight, her mother essentially had the picture perfect pageant girl and she’d completely forgotten that this girl also needed love and a mother to help her through life.
but her dad? a sweetheart, a gem, the most affectionate dad that she could have ever asked for and she loves him to pieces. calls him every single day. or texts. santos fam group chat is her, marcos, jax, santiago, and her maternal grandparents. ANYWAYS! WE CONTINUE!
despite yuliana’s instance that her kids go to private school, her parents convinced her to just send her kids to public school because it would offer the kids a chance to actually get to know people around town that weren’t in their parents circle of rich idiots. this was luna’s saving grace. in school, she made genuine friendships and she finally found a sense of comfort.
not that that lasted long because yuliana was instantly up her ass telling her that those kids from school weren’t real friends and that she had to focus on her priorities aka pageants. only pageants. always PAGEANTS. so... that’s exactly what luna did.
can you tell that her mom is a demon yet? ‘cause we got more!
moving on to high school! things were essentially always the same. luna would go to school, live her life, make some friends but eventually she’d lose said friends because of her mom or because luna put up a wall since she knew that she’d lose them anyways.
she was in a car accident with her older brother jax when she was sixteen which resulted in her missing a pageant which made yuliana BIG MAD.
it was in her senior year of high school that yuliana set luna up with one of her friends sons and essentially forced her to be in a relationship with someone she had no connection w/at all.
she dated this person for a while (again, to make her MOM happy, not herself) up until her mother started talking about getting married which was when luna was like LOL ABORT MISSION and broke up w/the dude. did she like him? sure. but she wasn’t going to get married after high school. no thanks.
yuliana, naturally, was furious. got mad. was mad for a while. oscar the grouch mad 24/7.
THEN CAME COLLEGE! LUNA WAS FINALLY FREE! well... not really because her mother picked her school for her as well as her major; columbia university with a major in business. why? because she knew people who worked at the school that would be able to keep an eye out on her daughter.
SOMEHOW? luna still managed to find a sense of freedom the moment she stepped foot onto campus and was away from her mother. she was studying something she hated but she finally could live a life where she didn’t feel like she had to constantly please her mother or worry about falling out of line. it felt amazing.
this was where she discovered hook ups and friends w/benefits and BOI OH BOI was she thriving!
it was in her senior year of college that she had a long talk with her grandparents about what she wanted for herself and where she saw herself going. they wanted what was best for her and that meant getting her out from their own childs clutches who only saw luna as someone to parade around. it took her a while but the words from the talk stayed with luna until she was twenty two and she finally stood up for herself and told her mother NO MAS.
yuliana was like BITCH WHAT but luna was like YOU HEARD ME even though it was a bit less... blunt that i just made it seem.
at twenty two, she stopped competing in pageants and went off on an adventure to europe with her grandparents. her grandparents were really only with her for a month as they settled them into a nice place in italy but after that, she was finally happy.
she lived in italy and traveled around europe until she was twenty five which was when she moved back to frostford because she missed her grandparents, dad and older brothers. when she moved back, her grandparents helped her find a cute little home and she even got herself a red husky named kida - since she’d never been allowed to have a pet before in her life.
her dad still gives luna anything and everything she could ever want bc we stan a man who watches out for his child but luna also wants to make a life for herself outside of her parents money so she went and got a job. it was harder than she expected but she finally was willing to get one thanks to june diaz so now she’s a waitress at the whole enchilada and has been since she got back a solid year ago.
did i mention she’s been back one year? i feel like i should have mentioned it somewhere above but oh whale.
her new found freedom (its new even after four years OKAY) has also left her with a bit of a reckless streak. she is, in fact, a lot to handle at times and there’s other times where she falls back into that docile behavior her mom basically morphed into her. so... yeah!
FUN FACTS!
she wanted to be a cheerleader in high school but her mother was like NOT ON MY WATCH YOUNG LADY
her very first shift working at the whole enchilada resulted in her accidentally dropping a customers food on the floor and getting yelled at which resulted in her hiding in the bathroom to cry
she’s fluent in english, portugese, italian and french
she’s a flirty drunk which means she will probs try to get w/you if she’s drunk. unless you’re taken bc she knows her boundaries and she says NO to taken men.
anything she does regarding men is mainly to spite her mother bc she doesn’t really think she’s capable of falling in love. thanks to her mom basically making her feel worthless all her life :)
she’s a harry potter nerd and spiritually identifies as hufflepuff with slytherin tendencies even though pottermore told her 12 times that she is, in fact, a gryffindor. but she refuses to accept that. nope. not happening.
her hair is currently dyed a lavender purple. it’s almost always lavender purple. just assume it’s that color 24/7 lol.
CONNECTIONS!
i put together a wanted connections page for luna but it’s probs gonna get reworked like... two more times because i’m a perfectionist and am obsessed with providing too much detail. too much for my own good imma be hoe-nest. but feel free to hit me with anything! KTHNXBYELOVEYOULOTS<3

An Elder Bones Overview
DESIRED CHARACTER:
Desired Character: Edgar Bones
Why This Character?: Edgar Bones was actually my first character in my Silencio excursions. He’s the domino that started the disaster that’s become my life, and will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve never stopped crying over Edgar Bones, and don’t think I ever will. He’s just a righteous lad, but in a way that we rarely get to explore in works of fiction where things are very clearly black and white, good and evil. Edgar believes in Right and Wrong, fights for and against them at every turn, but he’s also very aware of the shades of grey that make up the world. He’s less worried about the rules and the laws as he is about what is Right, and I just. I fucking love that about him. Okay?
Face Claim?: Ryan Guzman
Ships/Anti-ships: Chemistry, my dudes!
Headcanons:
Bad to the Bone - Edgar was a bit of a rabble rouser in his teenage years. He was an excellent student and a star athlete, but he also stole bottles of booze from his parents’ liquor cabinet, smoked in the boy’s bathroom between classes, and broke into teachers’ offices after hours sometimes just for the hell of it. He even had a profitable side hustle out of the greenhouses that always made the most money during exam time. Incidentally, he got away with most of it. Excellent at covering his tracks and using his reputation to his advantage, when Edgar got detention it was almost always for fighting. He’s never had any patience for bullies and, since he’s always been the bulkiest boy in his year, Edgar never hesitated to jump in to fight for people who couldn’t fight for themselves. He was good at it, too. REALLY good. The problem was that, sometimes, he just didn’t know when to stop swinging.
It’s the Living Who Suffer - Losing his parents broke the part of him that was able to see the good in people. He knew he had to be strong for his sister, and he was, but on the inside Edgar was fundamentally broken by it. Having recently graduated from junior Auror into an official ranking, Edgar should have been in a position better suited to finding his parents’ killer and making them pay. But it was impossible for him to not bring the anger he felt following their deaths to work with him. His inability to properly separate his hurt from the cases he worked resulted in him resigning before the Heads of the Department could suggest he take a Leave of Absence. He ended up at the Three Broomsticks not long after, a fight with some rowdy patrons resulting in property damage Madam Rosmerta demanded he work off. The pub and it’s matron were the balm his soul needed to come to terms with the loss. As a bartender he could focus all of his energy into being there for his sister, in being the big brother Amelia needed him to be. Two and half years he worked behind Rosmerta’s bar and, all this time later, it’s still home to him. A shift or two makes up the difference for the Ministry’s shit pay.
Werewolf Capture Unit - After two and a half years working as a bartender and security for the Three Broomsticks, it was Alastor Moody that decided it was time for Edgar to come back to work. Aware that Edgar was more than a little disillusioned with the Aurors, the man was also the one to suggest another department that could really use his skills. Edgar agreed, it was time, but only Moody --in all his wisdom-- could have known that he was exactly the man for the job. Even before his parents’ deaths, Edgar had been aware of the wizarding world’s many injustices and prejudices. His lifelong history of fighting for the mistreated was what made him excel in his current career. He understands that werewolves are people, as diverse as any other, not inherently good or bad. Just people. And people that need help. He’s strong enough to wrangle with the worst of them, and compassionate enough to tell the difference between a bad night and a bad person.
A Marshmallow Center - It’s not as well kept a secret as Edgar thinks it is. His glowering, disinterested exterior does a decent job of convincing the outside world that he is not a man to be fucked with. Anyone who knows him, however, knows that there isn’t a better hugger in all of London; probably the world. He’s soft with the people he cares about, attentive and affectionate. His love language is touch, and if he cares about you then he won’t hesitate to spread the love. Platonic hugs, hand holding, forehead and cheek kisses, and cuddles are in endless supply where he’s concerned. He’s also not afraid to make an ass out of himself if it means making his loved ones laugh in the process. If he’s learned anything from his parents’ murder and this war, it’s that life’s too short for pretense and ego.
His Sister’s Keeper - There is no one in this world that means more to him than his sister. No one on the face of the entire planet that he is more protective of. No one who will go up to bat for her more fiercely than him, either.  Edgar will do ANYTHING for her, all she has to do is ask. Protecting Amelia has always been his job, his priority, and it was always a job he took deadly seriously. Even before their parents’ death. Happy as he was, and remains to this day, to annoy and tease his sister, he’s the only one allowed to. Potential boyfriends had to endure his protective streak and pray to the powers that be that Amelia was the one to break up with them. If he ever caught word that someone had made his sister cry he was happy to settle the score, with her as the only one able to call him off.
The Three Amigos - Ted Tonks and Frank Longbottom aren’t his friends. They’re his brothers. While he and Frank had the pleasure of growing up together, their brotherhood clicking into place before they were even making memories, it was on the train ride to Hogwarts that they met their third. Try though it might, the universe couldn’t separate them. Even though the Sorting Hat had sorted them into different Houses, they were still together at every opportunity causing trouble and getting each other out of it. He and Frank had planned as children to join the Aurors together and, while life has sent them all on different paths than they’d originally planned for themselves, it can’t break what’s between them. They’re his family. Edgar can’t imagine his life without either of them, and there isn’t a damn thing he wouldn’t do for them either.
Order of the Phoenix - He didn’t have to think about it when he was approached about the Order. Moody wasn’t even done with his spiel before Edgar had agreed. Of course he’d join. It wasn’t even a question. The Order of the Phoenix is everything he believes in. Fighting for the freedoms and lives of unjustly hated and persecuted people, people who were scared and couldn’t fight for themselves? It’s his bread and butter. It’s his driving force. Add to that the disappearance of red tape? He was in before he knew what he was agreeing to. The thrill seeker in him couldn’t have turned it down if he tried. Sure, it’s dangerous, but so’s his day job. His parents had safe jobs and they both died violently anyway. If he’s going to go, then he’s going to go fighting for something he believes in.
Please Provide At Least One: - Playlist - Mock Blog - Expand on one or more Traits
Ambivalent - Not out of genuine uncertainty, but because Edgar knows that you can’t take ANYTHING at surface value. He’s cautious about judging a situation or a person preemptively, but has also learned to trust his gut on certain things. Edgar sees the world for all it’s shades of grey, and sometimes it takes a minute to decide how much darkness is too much darkness, or if the light in a person is enough to turn something around. What he does, both on and off the clock, require judgement calls that could very well end up with someone hurt or dead. It’s not something he takes lightly.
Violent - He doesn’t have a temper. Edgar is actually an incredibly patient person, with an incredibly long fuse. Too long, in some cases. But once that fuse is lit all the way to the base… Once Edgar starts swinging he doesn’t know when to stop. He doesn’t know HOW to stop. He will keep going, and going, and going, until someone either pulls him off or his opponent is too unconscious to fight back. There’s this rage inside of him, burning so hot, and once it consumes him all he can do is let it burn and deal with the aftermath.
Stoic - It’s a word acquaintances and co-workers are more prone to using. Or, if he’s in a bad mental space, his loved ones might call him it, too. Edgar has some damn high walls built up around him. If you don’t know how to climb them, he’s not going to help you figure it out and he’s not going to give you much to work with either. He’s hard to read and quiet, downright humorless. It’s a little unnerving, and it wouldn’t be the first time he’s been called intimidating, either. Amelia’s the nice one. Not him.
Skilled - A lot of things come easy to Edgar, but it’s more than natural talent. He works hard to be the talented wizard that he is, trains constantly to be the best duelist and fighter he can be. Edgar did great in school because he knew, even then, that talent and skill weren’t the same thing. It wasn’t enough to be good at something. Not when his very blood demanded more from him.

The Mommy Myth: The War Against Welfare Mothers (Part One)
Tumblr media
This gif is from the 1970s film Claudine, a romantic comedy starring James Earl Jones and Diahann Carroll about a garbage man and a welfare mother trying to make the relationship and where he helps provide for her home and kids without the social worker checking in.
We check in with The New Yorker, who took a break from their cartoons to cover a welfare mother named Carmen Santana (not her real name): she is Puerto Rican American (and judging by the text’s descriptions of her “wide nose”, complexion, curly dark hair, and thick lips, she must be Afro-Latina) who weighs over 200 lbs and boy the writer was having a field day describing her heft and body. She has no interest in “national or international events” (common flaw that goes across class lines), she spends her day watching soap operas, cursing in Spanish and giving her many kids “a good cuffing” and they just throw the trash out the window. Her kitchen is filthy and her philosophy is “what will be, will be” (a common thing) and sits all the time even when she is cooking while her kids’ bedroom is decorated with obscene graffiti; she had her first child at age 15 and went on to have eight more kids by three different men and her mother had three children by different men and now Carmen’s daughter is also on welfare. She spends the money from Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) on makeup and perfume and hair (honestly wasn’t that a thing at some point? Like Midge Maisel and her mother make sure their husbands never see them without perfect hair and makeup) and junk food for the kids and she also plays the numbers where she spends her winnings on “jewelry , beer, and liquour” and “trips to Puerto Rico”. I guess we are not supposed to sympathize with this woman.
Carmen was an example of a stereotype that was used to represent and demonize welfare mothers. Johnnine Tillmon, the first chairwoman of the group National Welfare Rights Organization saw welfare and the stereotypes as a feminist issue.
I’m a woman. I’m a black woman. I’m a poor woman. I’m a fat woman. I’m a middle-aged woman. And I’m on welfare. In this country, if you’re any one of those things---poor, black, fat, female, middle-aged, on welfare---you count less as a human being.
She even said that the biggest reason that people believe the stereotype of the welfare mother is that they are “special versions of the lies that society tells about all women”, sadly she wasn’t listened to in the mainstream media where welfare mothers were deviants in a culture that valued the rugged individual, relentless hard work and sacrifice, slim bodies aided by Bowflex or Thighmaster, and shiny blond hair with perky smiles. Yo because of this stereotype, women of color with several children are considered suspect. It was also another way to pit moms against moms, the resentment of packing the kids’ lunch and work at a dull 9 to 5 job or scrub the kitchen floors while this stereotype gets to have sex with whoever and drink booze with tax dollars. Even Time magazine went in:
Tumblr media
Here’s a few facts: the average welfare family in 1994 had three members, the mother and two children. 39% were White and 37% were Black, African Americans numbered 12% of the national population but were about 35-37% of the welfare population and African Americans were three times as likely as White Americans to live below the poverty level. Only 10% of AFDC mothers had four or more children and 80% had one or two kids and figures in 1993 shown 75% of adults left welfare within two years and 1/2 of single mothers worked while on welfare and 1/3 were working to supplement the minuscule allotment and get off from unemployment. But that was lost on the media that focused on families with two or more generations on welfare (a tiny fraction of welfare recipients) even focusing on unwed teen welfare moms because they were...SHOCKING! Only 1% were teen mothers. Welfare mothers were known only by first name and she lived in the urban decay of New York, Camden (New Jersey), Chicago, or Detroit; they were black and unmarried and had a bunch of kids who don’t share a common biological father and she smoked and painted her nails and gave soda to her baby (OMG imagine 2010s soda freaks) and her face was pixelated in the media. Some of them were depicted as cynical about life and motherhood, it wasn’t sexy for them and at least they felt ambivalence (which was soooooo disco era).
youtube
Then came the 1990s where the moderate Democratic Clinton administration introduced “Welfare Reform” where President Bill Clinton ended “welfare as we know it” and he was just following his predecessors: Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush (the first) regarding their attitude towards welfare recipients. The Welfare to Work program who were being trained by job placement programs that prepared them for low-paying jobs in retail and in service and the resources for job training were limited (also if your hours took you away from your kids?). Also it was hard for welfare to work moms working to move up in their jobs and often mostly got gigs like seasonal retail.
The depiction of welfare mothers was different from the celebrity mom: she wasn’t ascribed emotions where her eyes welled up with tears or laughed, she wasn’t well lit with a light or a rosy focus, never seen holding her child up or clutching the child and magazines like Redbook or McCall’s never did a cover story with a welfare mom and her kids done up and showing the readers fun things they do with little or no money or touring New York City on $10 for a day or games to play while waiting in long lines (honestly that is a good idea, someone pay Susan and Meredith if the magazines do that). Also if you were a woman of color, especially a young one or a poor one (or both) you weren’t supposed to have the “baby lust” so gushed about in celebrity mom profiles; trust me I grew up a Latina kid in Central California and many older women like my mom would worry about the girls that want to have babies so bad or fall in love hard and fast, a young Karen Wheeler in 1967 can give all to family and babies and staying home but it is more precarious for a young girl of color.
Tumblr media
The media depiction of poor people wasn’t always so negative: political scientist Martin Gilens found that when the “War on Poverty” began, where the Lyndon B. Johnson administration focused on eliminating poverty and started programs like Head Start rather than piss on poor people, coverage focused on poor white people in rural areas like Appalachia or in the Rustbelt where mines or factories closed down, these were the faces of The Grapes of Wrath, the Joad family who fought against hardship on their way to a better life. After Michael Harrington published his book The Other America, public support for ending poverty was strong. But then came the riots in Watts, Newark, and Detroit (just a few) where mostly people of color fought back against law enforcement and the media used images of African-Americans to illustrate their pieces on welfare, which reinforced stereotypes about welfare and as the coverage became more negative, the skin color got darker (even though statistics then and now showed many more white recipients of welfare)
How about how the face of welfare became so feminized? In the 1930s, when the Welfare program and Social Security began under the New Deal by President FDR, a lot of women of color were barred from welfare because of discriminatory practices, this changed with the Civil Rights Movement which opened up some doors for women of color to get assistance for their children and households. Before the Welfare recipient was faceless or usually a man, who got rich off welfare and bought Cadillacs with the money, something that Richard Nixon really clung to and he asked Johnny Cash to perform the song “Welfare Cadillac” at a White House event sparking controversy. Indeed when Cash met with Nixon, he gave him a private concert with songs that were more compassionate and less reactionary than what Nixon wanted. In the early 1960s, magazines like Look or Reader’s Digest wrote to readers about women who sent their many children to beg for money while the mother ate steak with their boyfriend, or worse, spent the money on narcotics and kept giving birth to more than 10 kids. The image of poor, fertile mothers on taxpayer money was more infuriating than that of a able-bodied man getting the money, but making welfare moms work was shocking (as the system was designed for widows to stay home with their children and not worry about money), even a stinging David Brinkley chafed at leaving kids at a daycare center...it would cost the taxpayer more.
Tumblr media
Ronald Reagan coined the term “welfare queen” (look it up) and made exaggerated anecdotes and given how people were drawn to him (looking at you Mike and Nancy’s parents), he was believed despite him not citing sources or studies. Reagan voters fell for the image of a welfare mother who spent money for fancy cars, vacations, designer clothes, and played the system (there were a  few like Dorothy Woods, but again if this were common, the landscape of the inner city would look a lot different...) It was a dark time, the Religious Right took control, Proposition 13 in California put a limit on property taxes and started many tax revolts to limit government spending, and let’s not forget Ronald Reagan opposed the following:
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Fair-Housing Legislation in California
Legislation to declare Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday as a national holiday
How does that Reagan/Bush ‘84 sign look Ted and Karen?
Tumblr media
Stay tuned.....

After a good night’s sleep, I’m not high on feelings anymore, so I feel ready to talk about last night’s episode and my opinion about what might happen in the future.
This is gonna be a bit long so, click on the link below:
1. Ruby and Stan: WOW. Like, really, WOW! I loved that Stan is on this dangerous path with Ruby and that he is using his position as a cop to help his wife. I think it’s his way of showing her that he is glad she is not lying to him anymore. More like a “ well, baby, you finally understand what I want from you and why I was hurt. So, now that you’re coming clean to me, I’ll do whatever I need to do to help you.I’m not going to lose you”. And it’s awesome coz Stan knows the risks. He knows what is waiting for them if they don’t cover Ruby and the girls’ tracks. He understands now that his wife got tangled in this mess and that some of the things they’ve done were necessary coz the situation got out of their control.
Really, I wish I’d find someone as understandable and honest as Stan one day in my life. Now I’m worried about what can happen with these two, now that Turner will come for them. I’m curious and excited to see how Stan’ll use his knowledge as a cop to help the girls escape the law. I wonder if he might meet Rio at one point actually, coz in my head, it makes sense that Stan will want to talk to him. Stan will wanna know what this man is really doing what he is doing and his reasons behind it, coz I believe at one point, Stan will find out that Rio is the one helping the girls cover their tracks ( even if he asks for money in order to do that)
2.Annie.
Oh, Annie, Annie, Annie... She is still acting like a selfish, immature person, who isn’t really understanding what her big sister is going through. Her comment about  Beth finally getting some “vagina action” and how she understands she needed that but not with gang friend...Ouch. It was so not like that, Annie. It was not about your sis getting a dick into her vagina. It was about how your sister needed to regain her sexuality, the reins to one aspect of her life at least. However, I get it, Beth isn’t really opening up to her sister about how she is really feeling, but she was so quick to judge Beth. Again, maybe I feel that she is worried about how things are gonna end for all of them just like she said, and that is why, later, she tells Sadie about her being the bag of dicks who hurt Nancy? What shows me that Annie still needs to “grow up” bc even if I understand her need to be honest with her daughter, she must learn that telling things the way she did is not ideal!! And right before poor Sadie got inside for her classes and in her mamma’s car!! I think Annie should have waited and not drop this bomb the way she did. But she will come around. I hope we’ll see these two sisters finally open up more about what is going on in their heads to avoid more drama but who knows. It will be interesting to see how Beth x Rio closer relationship will affect Beth x Annie's one. I think that as things get more complicated between those two, Annie will worry about her big sis.
3. Beth x Rio.
OH. SWEET. BABY. JESUS.
first, the bedroom scene. Beth’s fantasy. Like I said I think it means that Beth is attracted to what Rio represents: power, control ( or the loss of) and him breaking things down is just a parallel of how Rio was in control of the situation and demonstrated his power over Dean’s back at the end of episode 4. How he is such an alpha, dominating male and omg, kill me. SHE GETS OFF ON THAT.
The violence of the act is a parallel to the violence Rio showed he is capable of, as he smashed that car. It doesn’t mean he’ll ever turn that kind of violence to Beth even in bed like some ppl thought ( including, maybe, the lovely anon I got).
Now, I believe that this particular scene tells us something interesting here about her feelings for Rio, and you’ll find out that I agree with some fellow shippers here: she is more attracted to what Rio represents than the man himself. It is complicated bc you might tell me: “but Mila, this is part of who he is. It’s not the same to say that she IS attracted to him as a person too?”. Yep, it is part of who he is but I believe it’s just 10% of the person he truly is. Look at how he is around his son, his lawyer and even with his crew ( just remember how he was in episode 1x03. He was the boss there but he wasn’t screaming orders all around. he was talking to them and coordinating things but without that bad boy vibe he had around the girls). He doesn’t need to be that dominating alpha male with them and with most of the ppl he interacts. However, I understand that, since the girls mess up constantly and even tried to put him away, the lack of trust makes him act the way he does around them. Rio is way more than just this powerful guy Beth sees. The problem is that he doesn’t let her see nor get closer to him so she can finally begin to know him.
We got to the real problem actually. They rly want to know the other? Or the level of distrust is so high between them that this is almost impossible right now ( don’t worry, I’ll answer that)? Because I believe Rio has a plan for them. He is grooming her into this boss bitch probably so he can have someone he can trust to help him with one of the multiple aspects of his business ( and I believe he chose her coz she is NEW to all this. She isn’t like the ppl he usually deals with, in this business, who are way more greedy and dangerous than Beth will ever be). But since she betrayed him once already, he is keeping some things he can use against her later to teach her a lesson if she even thinks about throwing hin un the bus again.
To answer my question in the last paragraph, I think he is intrigued, curious, definitely attracted to her. He thinks he knows her already, at least this part of her who wants his power, his control over things, his influence, but not the rest of the real Beth. I believe he wants to know her better, tho, because he can’t help it, but he is not feeling safe to do that just yet.
And Beth? Beth tells him to not label them and he says “yeah, it’s too soon”, and I feel like it was the writers’ way of telling us that it really is, bc they didn’t open up to the other still. They don’t trust each other, not 100%,  even as business partners ( well, just look at the promo for 2x06). Beth is definitely not in the right state of mind to really wanna know Rio. She is dealing with the mess her marriage is right now, and with the fact that she’ll now be a businesswoman and provide for her family, and Rio is still this mysterious guy who can not be trusted bc he has Boomer’s body and she doesn’t know what he is gonna do with it
Beth is aware of the fact that he holds too much power in their relationship right now and this scares her, maybe, coz Dean had the power in their marriage all those years ago and look at where it got her? I bet she thinks that he doesn’t wanna her to get closer and she is not feeling all that sure of what she is feeling too, so it’s safer to keep seeing him as this guy who can be her downfall if she makes the smallest of the mistakes.
I just keep trying to get into her shoes and I can’t help but think about how her head and heart are both a mess right now and I feel tired just thinking about it. Also, considering how her marriage ended up in disaster, just think about how she might wanna avoid falling for a guy like Rio if they don’t share any common ground here yet?
I truly believe any relationship between them will be possible only if they are equals. And even then, it won’t be a conventional relationship. Also, yes, it can end up in total disaster but what a beautiful disaster it will be.
all that being said, I do believe Rio has feelings for Beth that run deeper and are more complicated than just lust, and that Beth will develop them in the next episodes, because, like I said before, it’s too easy to turn attraction and lust into something more, depending of the situation, of course.
4. Mary Pat:
Oh, now MP is in deep trouble, and giving Turner one more info about what she knows of the girls was just one more way of showing us that MP is all about protecting herself, doing anything she can survive even if it means throwing the girls under the bus. She was a woman cornered and MP did what she had to do to escape Turner. However, I truly believe that, since it seems that she won’t give Turner what he wants ( coz Rio and Stan will get in his way, in order to protect themselves), this woman will cross a line here and I’m scared and excited to see which one. Can MP turn into the bad guy of this season? Totally b, but hell if I’ll risk telling what she is gonna do in the end.
5. DEAN.
I wanna this fucker dead.
Such a piece of garbage, really. But he is also turning into an interesting character bc I wonder, why he is still by her side? He truly believes that he still loves her? He sees her as his property? Is this about his huge, stupid male ego, that makes him stay by Beth’s side, so he won’t lose her to a guy like Rio? I’ll say yes to the last one but with a side comment:  he is just so used to his life, to the way things are... Dean is this old fashioned guy with sexists ideas and I think that if Beth rly leaves him, he’ll think of it as this epic fail as a man. He wasn’t able to keep his house in order and his wife by his side. So he’ll rather have this lie of a life than lose everything. But once he sees that Beth won’t be by his side for long, what is Dean gonna do? We know he is capable of lying, he knows ppl just as untrustworthy as he is... I believe that in order to keep Beth, he will use blackmail, yep, or try to bring Rio down, but only heavens know how.
Phew, that was long. Thank u for coming to my GG ted talk xD

Medusa of the Deep
This was getting ridiculous.
There were ten fishing boats in the village, with three to seven people on each. Well, there had been. Now there were only enough people for three of the boats, because the rest were all dead of jellyfish poisoning.
As to the rest of the men, who were supposed to handle this kind of thing. They had all refused to go back out into open water and deal with whatever was reaching up and killing their own. That left the women.
They were meeting at the church, supposedly to decide who they were going to make sweaters and socks for, since not everyone could get yarn and winter was coming. However, it was also to discuss the jellyfish problem.
Meg was the oldest, a short woman whose husband, while he lived, had told her she was never allowed on his boat lest she capsized it. She had gotten her revenge by not letting him in the house until he’d washed off every bit of fish smell.
The joke was that Meg had no sense of smell.
Meg was sorting scrap yarn from their indulgent summer projects. “Has anyone actually seen it, though? The jellyfish? Must be massive. And how do they keep catching it?”
“They’re idiots,” was Suzanne’s comment. Suzanne had gotten married last year and was expecting her first baby, which made her irritable. She loved children but hated being fat. Her husband sometimes slept at the pub because she was more upset as she got bigger.
Laurie rolled her eyes. She was the village teacher. “We know that. My husband says they keep catching her in the nets, and trying to put her back.”
“Oh, a her?” Meg asked, putting down the soft yellow yarn. “And how did he know the gender of a jellyfish? They’re blobs!”
That gave them all pause, and they stopped, looking at each other.
“Idiots,” Laurie muttered. Although she wasn’t clear as to whom she referred.
Meg started cackling. “They keep catching the same mermaid!” she chortled.
“Well, why don’t they stop doing that?” Suzanne grumbled.
Meg finally stopped laughing. “We need to go talk to her, see what can be done.”
“Why did they say jellyfish if she’s a mermaid?” Suzanne asked.
Meg was back to sorting the yarn. “The first ones anyone met were the ones with the long fish-tails, those were mermaids, but no one knew about the other kinds of tails for ages. She’s still a mermaid, she just probably has jellyfish tentacles instead of a tail.”
“And we will be able to talk to her…why?” Laurie asked. “Since she’s been attacking people?”
“Well, we aren’t going to drop nets and try to catch her!” Meg was scandalized. “We are going to be civilized about it, and discuss what’s going on, and come up with a solution.”
They all took a moment with that, realizing that, while they loved their husbands, they could be a bit dumb, and it had gotten several people killed.
Suzanne sighed. “We’ll have to go out at night.”
“I’m packing food,” Meg added. “Laurie, can we use your husband’s boat?”
Laurie shook her head. “Engine’s broke.”
           “Suzanne?”
“It’s one of the new ones, I have no idea how it runs. What about you, Meg?”
“I sold Ted’s boat to pay off the house ages ago. I have a rowboat, though.”
“I’m not rowing anything,” Suzanne was final.
           “I can,” Laurie added.
“So can I,” Meg decided. “You and I will row. Suzanne will keep things from falling overboard while we do.”
“Are you sure you should?” Laurie asked, concerned.
“I’m eighty-two, not dead. We’re bringing sandwiches. And apples.”
           And so it was decided.
.           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .
Suzanne was not impressed by the rowboat.
“It’s got seaweed growing on it!”
“That happens,” Meg agreed. “Hop in and hold the basket so we can push it out.”
Once they were out on the water, Meg and Laurie rowing-and Meg was trying to get Laurie to understand the actual rhythm-and Suzanne was clinging to the side with one hand, and the basket of food clutched the other.
They rowed out into the bay, Meg deciding where they should stop.
“Do you think the mermaid speaks English?” Laurie asked. “Because this could get complicated.”
“Well,” Meg thought it over. “Usually, they have some idea of local human languages. If not English, maybe she knows some Swedish or Danish, I know a little of those. Anyone else know any other languages?”
“French,” Laurie offered. She was a teacher, after all, French was a sign of a well-taught teacher, and also a governess, which she had been as well.
“What about you, Suzanne?”            Suzanne seemed focused on not getting dumped overboard, even thought hey were barely tilting. “Gaelic.”
“Seriously?” Laurie was incredulous. “I didn’t think anyone knew that anymore!”
“Me either. Where did you learn?” Meg added.
“My great-grandmother, when I was little. Why are you pitching this thing every way imaginable?” she added, strident.
They were barely moving. “Sorry, dear,” Meg offered. “We’ll be more careful.”
Having reached the middle of the bay, they stopped rowing, and Meg lit the other lanterns they had brought, so they were in a blaze of light.
           “Now what?” Laurie asked.
“Now,” Meg told them. “Now, we wait. Who’s hungry?”
They were happily into the sandwiches when the water suddenly bubbled up.
Meg put her sandwich down. “Oh, lovely, that must be her. Suzanne, lean to the port side, would you? Thank you. dear.”
The water bubbled up and the surface tension broke, revealing a dark head and two dark eyes, narrowed.
“Good evening,” Meg greeted her. “Would you like a sandwich?”
           Eyes stayed narrowed.
“We wanted to talk to you, about what’s been going on in the bay, but like civilized people, over food,” Meg continued, fishing out another sandwich. “Do you like apples? I’m Meg, these are Laurie and Suzanne.”
Still nothing, but Meg offered her the sandwich anyway. Suzanne sighed deeply.
“We don’t have nets or anything boneheaded like that,” she offered. “We’re in a rowboat, for heaven’s sake.”
The mermaid raised one brow at that, a brow that didn’t have hair but the faintest suggestion of scales. Then, carefully, she extended one arm, and took the sandwich, raising her body halfway out of the water. To brace herself, she exposed a few tentacles, making sure to keep them outside the rowboat.
She took a bite of the sandwich. Meg had made egg salad sandwiches for all of them except Suzanne, who hated egg at the moment. She had gotten chicken salad.
“Thank you,” The mermaid’s voice was a deep rumble. “I’m Anya.”
“A pleasure to meet you!” Meg agreed.
Anya took a bite of the sandwich, and her eyes lit up. “This is good!”
“Egg salad,” Laurie offered. “Meg makes the best egg salad sandwiches.”
After they ate, Meg gathered the napkins up. “Now, we need to talk about the idiot men and what’s been going on out here. We’ve heard everything they’ve said-what about you? What’s been going on?”
Anya leaned on the rowboat, her tentacles curling underneath and up the other side so the little boat wouldn’t capsize. “I’m not sure. I got caught in a net, and they pulled me out, usually people apologize and let you go, but they seemed to think they could give me away? I hit someone getting off the ship. It was hard-tentacles don’t work too well out of water.”
Suzanne shook her head. “Idiots. Our husbands are idiots.”
“We knew that, though,” Laurie told her.
“And I thought that would be the end of it, since I hit someone with my tentacles, and I know they’re poisonous, and I went further offshore, so I wouldn’t interfere with their fishing. And they kept coming back, and I started to use my tentacles to defend myself, and I’m afraid people got hurt.”
           “People got killed,” Suzanne offered.
Anya slunk down in the water. “I grew up in these waters. They’re my home, too.”
Meg reached over and patted her hand. “There, now, dear. We aren’t trying to make you leave. We need to provide a solution, that’s all. And your family was probably here alongside ours for years, and no one ever noticed the other. So, how did that work?”
“We had an agreement. We would drive the fish upwards, to the nets, and in return we would not be caught in them.”
“That sounds great,” Laurie commented. “We’ve had such trouble getting in good catches for a while now.”
Anya nodded. “And I don’t mind! I only eat the little fish, or the eggs. But I don’t want to be carted off somewhere.”
Meg was thinking hard. “We need to talk to the actual fishermen, but since they’ve been idiots and half of them are dead, they will appreciate the help. Even if we have to smack them with spoons. Can we meet back here in two nights?”
“Sure. Can you bring another sandwich?”
Meg patted her hand. “Of course, dear.”
           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .
It took rather a lot of persuasion on Laurie and Suzanne’s part to get the men tot listen, and finally Meg was so irritated that she came into the church where they were meeting, threw a basket of partially thawed fish guts on the floor with a bang, and glared at all of them.
“You’re idiots,” she informed the now-silent church.
“Look, there are places down south that---”            “Young man,” Meg narrowed her eyes. “Before Laurie came back with her fancy degree to teach-I love you, Laurie, you are a boon to this town, this has nothing to do with you at all-I was the teacher here. I took you outside and tanned your backside myself when I found out you were declawing all the cats based on one book that you should never have gotten. You are not allowed to make decisions like that. You have no respect for life. Anya-that’s her name-is a mermaid. She’s from here, just like we are. Her family used to drive the fish up for us, back when this town actually had money. She’s come back. If we work with her instead of acting like idiots, we can start to have something again.”
He opened his mouth, bright red, and then closed it. He really wished Meg would forget the declawing thing.
“So, she wants to not be caught in the nets. I think we can all agree that, since she will help-driving the schools of fish to the nets-we can all do that? This is a very simple equation, you know.”
The men looked at each other, somewhat shamefaced.
Laurie and Suzanne high-fived, knowing Meg had made the point for them.
“Good,” Meg announced. “We’ll go tell her. Don’t a single one of you make us liars.”
That last, she added with a finger-shaking.
           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .           .
Over the next three months, the town had greater catches of fish than in the previous ten years. They were able to rebuild the library and fix up the school.
Meg also made sure they rebuilt the promontory walk over the deep part of the inlet. That was where, when she was a girl, the mermaids would come up to the surface, and people could talk to their aquatic counterparts. For a while, it was simply her and Anya. Then other people started coming.
           And other mermaids.
When Meg saw ten of them, some medusas like Anya, others with fish tails, or wrapped in kelp, talking to the children that Laurie had brought down for the day, she knew the town was going to be all right.

“Analysis of Financial Literacy in a College Population.” Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice, vol. 19, no. 4, Feb. 2019, doi:10.33423/jhetp.v19i4.2197.
“Analysis of Financial literacy in a College Population” is a research paper made in 2019 by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. It researches how many college students are financially literate today. They describe how important financial literacy is and how it helps young people throughout their lives. For the research they take into mind what gender the person is, how motivated they are, what major they’re in, their age, and their financial backround.
They’ve come up with a few hypothesis, which are:
1.      Business students will be more financially literate than those who are not business students.
2.      Students who have taken financial literacy courses will be more financially literate than those who have not.
3.      Students who have family members in a financial field will score higher on the financial literacy test than those who do not.
4.      Students who are more confident will score higher on the financial literacy test than those who are not.
5.      Students who are more motivated will score higher on the financial literacy test than those who are not.
It’s interesting what this research shows, and I hope it motivates college students to take a course that would help with this. This analysis was interesting and gave me some more insight into the points I was going to make in my essays. I had a more board view of finances, but this is exact research for a particular population. especially having this research be towards people my age was interesting. It also goes into what financial literacy is and how people may view it nowadays.
Bednar, Joseph, and BusinessWest Staff. “Financial Literacy Should - but Often Doesn't - Start Young.” BusinessWest, 21 May 2019, https://businesswest.com/blog/financial-literacy-should-but-often-doesnt-start-young/.
The title of this particular article is “Financial Literacy should – but often doesn’t- start young” by Joseph Bednar. This article was made in May 2019 and goes into what mistakes people make and solutions we can do to solve those issues. The article goes over mistakes that people make and how to avoid those bad decisions. The blogger makes a stance on how schools should be teaching financial literacy at a younger age. It is so important to start teaching kids this as young as we can. It may not be “entertaining” for some children to talk about how money works, but teachers and parents should do the best they can. I was never really taught about to handle real life situations with finance in school, until I got to college.
There are companies wanting this education of financial literacy to be spread throughout children of the US. In the article there are quotes from Credit Unions that want its customer to be financially literate. This also focuses on the importance of teens being educated in finances. Surveys are done that show that some teens may have a lack of confidence about their financial future. This helps support the claim that financial literacy is so important. This article is a great for our society to be able to get financial literacy to be taught at a younger stage in life. Another reason why this is important because the only education people have in the youth for finances is from their parents.
Hill, Napolean. Think and Grow Rich. 1937.
This is a book has a very interesting back story, which actually helps magnify the content in the book. This book was made in 1937 and it is a self-improvement book. Napolean Hill interviewed and studied the most successful men during his time. Men such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, and many more. The book starts with an introduction explaining the 13 steps of becoming your best self. These steps can be applied to anything, especially financial literacy.
Some of the steps in the book are desire, imagination, organized planning, persistence, and the subconscious mind. Each step is important for different reasons and the author goes into depth with each principle. This book definitely goes into a spiritual aspect, but also how these aspects can help with self-improvement and becoming successful. And again these steps or principles are things that Mr. Hill found in hundreds of the most successful men of his time. He lists some names in the book, but says that it all started with an invitation by Andrew Carnegie. This book contains the “secret” successful people knew and Mr. Carnegie invited Mr. Hill to do twenty years of research to compile the secret from these people, and share it with the world.
The author is very confident when he says this book contains the secret to success. Thousands of people have practiced what’s in this novel. The secret was used by President Wilson during the World War, and told Mr. Hill that “it was strong factor in raising the funds for the war”.
Kiyosaki, Robert, and Sharon L. Lechter. Rich Dad, Poor Dad. TechPress, 1997.
“Rich dad poor dad” is a book written by Robert Kiyosaki who is a multi-millionaire. This book was published in 1997 and it helps people know how to be financially successful. The author tells the story of his dad (poor dad) and his friends’ dad (rich dad) and how both of these men influenced his life. The poor dad is educated but lacks “street smart”; and the rich dad has very little education but has lots of “street smart”. The principles of these men are taught throughout the novel, along with insights from the author Robert Kiyosaki. The principles are great and help people think outside the box.
Principles in the novel, “Rich dad Poor dad”, are as follows:
Roberts describes a phrase he calls don’t work for money, have money work for you. He explains that too many work to hard and don’t think outside the box. He encourages readers to become owners of their business and that they can get income without them doing a lot of work. Another principle is the importance of financial literacy. He basically explains how important it is to learn accounting, or take a class about it. Another principle is that we should work to learn and don’t work for money. This is similar to the first one, but he goes deeper into the importance of learning. He also describes knowing the difference between assets and liabilities, and how people need to learn this so that they can stay financially stable and not go bankrupt.
Kruse, Nicole. “Money Matters.” Nais.org, June 2019.
This article is by a woman names Nicole Kruse in the summer of 2019. The article also goes into the importance of students becoming prepared for the real world. The real world can be crazy and unexpected, and financial literacy can help with that.  The neat thing about this article is that it references other research that has been done for when other countries and states implemented a curriculum to help students be taught finances in school. She has a huge focus on getting these classes into schools, but also suggests it should be taught multiple times. Mostly because the things we learn in one class may not be enough to make it a habit for students. This article is a little small, but still expresses the importance of students being taught how to be financially literate.
I think article is very relevant and mentions things that I have not heard from the other articles. In the beginning it explains where we are today as a country. It mentions tests done to measure financial literacy across the country made from a study called the National Financial Capabiliy Study by FINRA Investor Education Foundation. So it not only goes over the importance of it, but also where we are has a country. They concluded that nearly two-thirds of the people in America are not financially literate. They based this on a financial literacy test. I believe that providing this in schools at a younger age will help America today, but also for the future.
Lally, Tammy. “Let's Get Honest about Our Money Problems.” TED, June 2017, https://www.ted.com/talks/tammy_lally_let_s_get_honest_about_our_money_problems?language=en#t-709049.
The speaker’s name is Tammy Lally and she is a money coach. In this TED talk in 2017, she explains a story about her brother and how from the experience that happened to him inspired her to realize that we should break free of “money shame”. People around the world feel this. When people buy things and use money not really for things we would consciously think of. She brought up a good point saying that just because we make certain decisions with money, does not mean we should beat ourselves and think we are bad with finances. This ted talk goes how money can really get a hold of someone’s life.
This feeling of money shame, can make people feel unworthy of love just based on our bank accounts and what we own. She explains that it doesn’t matter how much money we have, and sometimes people let money control our lives. An example of someone having money shame would be someone living in a house or having a car they don’t really have the budget for. Tammy also encourages that people shouldn’t try to hide their money shame. She also encourages that money should stop being a taboo topic, because not talking about it can lead to bad consequences. Tammy of course encourages to stay out of debt and budget. I love this talk because she really helps realize what I spend and how feel about spending. And I like how she makes the point that money does not equal happiness nor our self worth.
Lance, et al. “Is Money Actually Important and Does Money Matter?” The Mastermind Within, 14 Mar. 2019, https://www.themastermindwithin.com/does-money-really-matter/.
This is article made by a financial blogger, and the author wanted to explore a little bit about money. The title is “Is money actually important and does money matter?”. It goes into a lot of what if situations like if money wasn’t that important in people’s lives. The blogger also talks about how money or finances can sometimes get in the way of important things in life. The blogger further explains that if money didn’t really matter, there would be no stopping people from going to spend time with friends and family or even travelling the world.
I would say this is an important question to ask ourselves if money really matters. Money can cause a lot of stress and break ups in life. Even between friends or spouses, money can sometimes break those relationships. Now selfishness is a big thing when these break ups happen but this isn’t really a psychology essay. Now I also think money can help with achieving goals or making memories with the people you love. The author did mention that if people thought money didn’t matter, there would be no stopping people from going to Las Vegas and doing other things that may have that person loose money. Thinking that money doesn’t matter can be risky, but I think it’s important that we realize people may view money in different ways.
The author then closes with a final remark that at the end of the day, people aren’t thinking about money. When people are on their death bed, they’re not going to be thinking about how much money they have.
Payzan-LeNestour, Elise. “Why We Take Financial Risks.” TED, 2016, https://www.ted.com/talks/elise_payzan_lenestour_why_we_take_financial_risks.
The speaker for this Ted talk is Elise Payzan-LeNestour. This speaker at Ted talks about why humans gamble or take financial risks. She is a behavioral scientist that specializes neuro finance. Although this isn’t really a “how to” get rich resource, I think it’s important to realize the consequences of risky decisions with finances. There’s been a few tests on this. The first test she mentions is a monkey test. The monkey is in a cage and has two buttons both giving it sugar. One button gives a fixed about of sugar each time, one button gives out more sugar but sometimes gives a shock to the monkey. And with other tests she notices that we like taking risks. Even financial ones.
She describes that we are “greedy and lack self-control”. Before making this statement she explains other tests that they’ve done. The tests were to see if people who take risks have a “homer simpson” mind set. Comparing that mindset to “spock”, we learn that it doesn’t matter how intelligent we are, we all are subject to taking financial risks. People just have the temptation to gamble. Elise says people “cannot resist the temptation to seek more reward”. After looking at this, she describes that we are almost “hard-wired to gamble”. We sometimes cannot resist the chance of getting something more, even though it’s not guaranteed.
“Practical Psychology.” YouTube, YouTube, 12 Feb. 2016, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCir93b_ftqInEaDpsWYbo_g/featured.
Practical Pyshcology is youtube channel that started in the last couple years and already has almost 2million subscribers. The creator of this channel has many videos and a lot of them are on self-development, and some of them are involve financial advice about saving money, selling, credit cards, etc. Whenever he does say most of his statements, he does refer to the place where he got them from. Or he just states what he’s learned from his own experience. I will now explain some of his tips for becoming more financially literate.
For saving money he suggested on making a monthly statement (budget), identify needs vs wants, avoiding spending money once you get paid, and don’t take loans to buy things. He also gives other tips like how to invest and how to use a credit card properly. Now a lot of his videos do explain how to set smart goals and have healthier habits, which are necessary to becoming financially literate and successful. He has a lot tips he’s learned from the habits of millionaires, but also tips similar to Dave Ramsey. One for example is that using cash (instead of a card) sends a signal to the brain that you lost something. When people use their credit/debit card, there’s no signal sent to the brain because their card is giving right back to them. But the physical cash isn’t coming back after you use it. So when people spend a lot of money, they’re most likely using a card instead of cash.
 Ramsey, Dave. “Dave Ramsey's 7 Baby Steps.” Daveramsey.com, Ramsey Resolutions, 2019, https://www.daveramsey.com/dave-ramsey-7-baby-steps#baby_step_2.
Dave Ramsey is a multi-millionaire and has a podcast for financial advice. He’s written books, has his own company, and gives advice to not only help people get rich, but helps them get out of a financially difficult situation. In the link is his famous 7 baby step plan to become financially successful.
One of the first steps, he suggests people to pay off all debt (excluding home loan). So that means student loans, car loans, and credit cards. He excludes home loans in the beginning because he knows it takes a lot of time to pay off those for most Americans. His steps also include saving, investing, and saving for your children’s college fund. The last step is to build wealth and give. He states that spirituality will help rich people not lose their heads when they gain wealth. That helps him be majorly generous when accrues more wealth than he needs. For most of my sources from him, I will use these 7 steps and podcasts he has. I haven’t read any of his books just yet.
His podcasts mostly consist of him answers questions to his listeners. There are of course people who disagree with his views, but Mr. Ramsey sticks with his views and strategies for becoming financially stable. He gives tips for self-reliance, car payments, mortgage, life insurance, and even identity theft. He’s gone bankrupt before, but obviously knows how to get out of quick which is why his advice is more compelling to me.
We can prevent us from doing this by having one hand tied behind our backs. If we simply restrict ourselves from gambling, there is a way for us to avoid this temptation.

can you give us any background on rose barnes (the first)? your family tree shows that she died at one year, but i cant recall and info on her in tnw, how did her death impact winnie and george? does bucky remember her?
@mythgrrl, hello and welcome to the party! 😊 Thanks for writing in! (@em-is-obsessed, you’re gonna love this question, too!)
This is a great question. It’s the second entry in Winifred Barnes’s encyclopedia of tragedy, after her husband coming home from war a changed man.
The thing about infant mortality is that just because it was more common then didn’t stop it from being devastating. Rose was born on March 3, 1920, when Bucky was nearly 3, and she died on April 3, 1921, a month after her 1st birthday, when Bucky was 4. She died of influenza.
In same ways, Rose’s death marked a turning point in George and Winifred’s relationship, because the way things were going after his return from WWI was unsustainable. He struggled with alcoholism, depression, and post-traumatic stress, and while he did manage to hold down a job and provide – there were plenty of jobs for a physically able-bodied man in the 20s, and his older brother Sean (b. 1885) was a partner in a small electrical contracting firm – their relationship was fractious and difficult from 1919-1921.
Before the war, he’d been as playful and fun as Jack and as sensitive as Bucky, though not nearly as adept at self-expression thanks to his truncated education. He was born in 1893 in County Cork and immigrated to the U.S. in 1901 with his older brother. He knew how to read and do arithmetic, but his lack of education was a point of insecurity his entire life–and particularly in contrast to Winnie, who had been the salutatorian of her high school class, and who might have found a way to go on to college had she not married George instead.
So, the short answer to your question is that in the early post-war years, George and Winnie weren’t happy. He drank too much, he could be mean (he may not have been educated, but he could certainly wield words), and while he was never physically abusive, the fun and sweetness of their early romance seemed to have died the minute he’d shipped out to the Argonne. Winnie often had to care for him through hangovers, flashbacks, and nightmares, and make excuses for him when he failed to attend church – the church to which she had converted, for him – and for his rudeness to their friends and family. It was during this time that her parents, Veenie and Serviu, began encouraging her to move back home with them. This was especially true after Prohibition was passed, and George continued to find ways to get drunk – they were terrified he’d get into trouble with the law because of his problem, and leave Winifred on her own with two small children to care for.
But then Rose died.
And Winnie was devastated, of course, but George was crushed. He blamed himself, thinking perhaps if he had been a better man, a better husband, Winnie wouldn’t have gotten ill in the first place from all her running around, and the baby wouldn’t have gotten ill from her. He regretted that he could hardly remember the details of Rose’s first, and as it turns out only, year of life. He didn’t know how to comfort Bucky – who had earned that nickname only a few months before, when pretending to be a chicken for “Yosie’s” amusement – and he didn’t truly know how to comfort his wife, either. But he tried. And for a while, he did better, and he asked his brother Sean to help him stop drinking, and he became more involved – if somewhat unconventionally – in caring for Bucky as a young child.
He wasn’t perfect. He would still binge drink – alcohol was easy to get your hands on in New York in the 1920s –  but his days of day-in, day-out drinking and sleeping it off were over. And Winnie saw that, too, and in losing Rose found it easier to redirect her energy to her husband than to reflect on the loss of her daughter. They became closer in their grief, the opposite of what often happens to parents who lose a child, and found during this time a form of partnership that worked for them.
Specifically, Winnie was the true head of the household. She managed the money, their calendar, the children. She gave George task lists – he tended to have a poor short-term memory, related to a knock on the head he’d gotten during the war, and no doubt his continuing, if intermittent alcohol abuse – and they decided together that he would go to mass just about every day, because it helped him to have routines like that. Still, they struggled, and Winifred worked very hard to suppress her natural feelings of resentment because he wasn’t the man she married – and then to suppress her guilt for feeling that way, knowing what he’d gone through.
It got easier when Teddy was born, in 1923, and easier again with Jack (1925), and by the time they faced their next major struggle – the Great Depression – their relationship had found its solid ground. They were deeply committed to one another, and while I hate to say that the death of a child could have a “silver lining” – that feels grotesque – losing Rose absolutely kept them together, whereas if she had lived, I don’t know that their marriage (or George) would have survived.
If we fast-forward, though, it makes the fact that he regressed in 1945 all the more sad. George was inconsolable after losing Jack and Bucky. And though Winnie had two grandchildren to care for – Andrew and Veenie, Jack’s twins born a few months after he was KIA – George was not nearly so involved with them. He died in 1948 in a bar altercation in Manhattan.
I said in an email to @em-is-obsessed that "there is something extremely tragic about losing the one person who is your partner in grief.” Only George, as her fellow parent to Bucky and Jack, the one person who loved them as completely as she, could understand and share in her sadness. And with him gone, there was Ted and Rebecca, but that’s not the same. It made popular culture’s obsession with her son sometimes harder to bear, because as the years went on, Bucky became an artifact of history; yet to her, he was still her child.
As for Bucky…

Skyler Lambert White was the perfect mother but when it came to her relationships, things were a bit complicated. During her time in the series, she was involved with two men: Walter White and Ted Beneke. Though her marriage to Walt received more focus, her affair with Ted heavily impacted her life too.
RELATED: Which Breaking Bad Character Is Your Soulmate, Based On Your Zodiac?
One can't help but wonder which of the two men was better for her. Walt became difficult and stubborn after his foray into the drug trade while Ted was an irresponsible boss, almost running the company his father left him into the ground. Despite their flaws, there are arguments for both men as ideal long-term partners for Skyler.
10 Walt: He Was The Perfect Breadwinner
Tumblr media
Walt might have had dozens of flaws but he was the perfect provider. He did everything to ensure his family didn't lack a thing. He went as far as to become a methamphetamine manufacturer so that his family would never have financial troubles in the event of his death.
He wasn't too proud to work as a high school chemistry teacher despite the fact that he was a top-tier scientist who had contributed to a Nobel-winning project. Not to forget that he worked at the A1A Car Wash too whenever he was free, so that he could earn extra income. A man who'd do anything to provide for his family is an admirable man.
9 Ted: He Was There For Her During Childbirth
Tumblr media
When Skyler went into labor in Season 2, Ted was the one who took her to the hospital. Walt was nowhere to be seen because he had just been instructed to deliver 38 pounds of meth to Gus within an hour. Jesse had also passed out from an overdose hence Walt had the additional task of going to his house to get the meth himself.
After delivering the meth, Walt rushed to the hospital. There, Skyler asked him to be quiet. She was clearly upset. On the far end of the room, Walt saw Ted standing. He had been there for Skyler during her most vulnerable moment yet, something Skyler deeply appreciated. The incident proved Ted was more reliable during moments of need than Walt.
8 Walt: She Was A Perfect Accomplice To Him
Tumblr media
Even though Skyler didn't like the fact that her husband was in the drug trade, it can be argued that she was at her best when she was helping him launder his millions. The manner in which she was able to procure the A1A Car Wash after Walt's failure to do so was magnificent.
RELATED: 10 Hilarious Breaking Bad/Malcolm In The Middle Crossover Memes
During the period that she worked at the car wash, she was comfortable as her own boss. She also had a say in Walt's drug income, even forcing him to pay for Hank's treatment. One can't help but get the sense that if she had continued on this route, she and Walt would have built a great drug empire.
7 Ted: She Was Ready To Do Anything To Get Him Out Of Trouble
Tumblr media
Skyler reacted very differently when she discovered that Walt was a criminal, compared to how she reacted when she discovered Ted had been committing financial crimes. She couldn't stand Walt after she found out his secret but when she realized Ted would be in trouble with the IRS, she was willing to even cook the books for him.
She was able to fool an IRS agent by pretending to be an ignorant accountant. By doing this, she got Ted off the hook. She also took $621,552.33 of Walt's drug money and gave it to Ted so that he could solve his IRS problems. It appears she was more of a ride-or-die to Ted than to Walt.
6 Walt: She Genuinely Cared For His Wellbeing
Tumblr media
Skyler made her way to Jesse's house and threatened him when she thought he was selling marijuana to Walt. She also reminded him not to "yo yo" her. She didn't want her husband to be addicted to any kind of drug.
She also pushed Walt to start going for chemo sessions and undergo surgery when he was totally against it. She even organized for family intervention, with Hank and Marie present. And when she had separated ftom Walt, she made sure to check up on him at his new apartment. All their troubles aside, Skyler truly loved Walt.
5 Ted: He Was More Fun Than Walt
Tumblr media
Ted proved how fun-loving he was when he urged Skyler to perform her rendition of Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" in front of everyone in the office. As the employees at Beneke Fabricators were celebrating Ted's birthday, Skyler went on to do the rendition before kissing Ted on the cheek.
RELATED: Breaking Bad: 10 Greatest Betrayals, Ranked
Walt, on the other hand, was a decent family man but he was fun. He was all about Chemistry and drugs. There wasn't a single moment when Walt danced or did anything that could be considered fun, a trait that was clearly important for Skyler.
4 Walt: He Forgave Her For Cheating
Tumblr media
Fans of the show have always called out Skyler for her occasional hypocritical nature. She often crucified Walt for his sins yet she hurt him badly too and he forgave her.
Skyler's marriage was on shaky grounds when she cheated with Ted but there is never a justifiable reason for infidelity. She had made vows to Walt hence her actions could not be excused. Her betrayal was a major one but Walt didn't cut her off for it. Instead, he tried even harder to keep the family together.
3 Ted: They Were In The Same Industry
Tumblr media
Having similar interests is important in a relationship. It's even better when both are in the same profession. Such was the case with Ted and Skyler. Ted was the boss at Beneke Fabricators while Skyler was the accountant.
While Skyler could connect with Ted professionally, she had no knowledge about Walt's fields of interest. Chemistry concepts were alien to her and so was the drug trade. Walt would have been better off staying with Gretchen since she was passionate about Chemistry like him.
2 Walt: He Was A Good Father
Tumblr media
Walt might not have been a good husband but he wasn't that bad of a dad. With him, Skyler could be assured of a proper family unit. And most of the time, the family was indeed adorable.
RELATED: Retro-Cast: If Breaking Bad Was Made In The '90s
Walt was always nice to Walter Jr. aka Flynn. He bought him a cool car, against Skyler's wishes. And even went Walter Jr couldn't stand him in the final season, Walt made sure to leave $9.72 million with Elliot and Gretchen so that they could give it to his son on his 18th birthday.
1 Ted: He Never Stopped Loving Her
Tumblr media
Ted was more than willing to give Skyler her job back after she burst into the office, despite being advised not to do so by the accountant. She had quit the firm a couple of years earlier after Ted made a drunken pass at her. Realizing how badly he had messed up, Ted apologized profusely. Good partners never hesitate to apologize.
The fact that Ted was willing to bring Skyler back proved how deeply he cared about her. It also didn't bother him that she was pregnant with another man's baby. She was all he wanted.

Hogwarts Houses Of Schitt’s Creek Characters | ScreenRant
The characters in Schitt’s Creek are more likely to sort themselves according to fashion preferences than they are to figure out their appropriate Hogwarts houses. In fact, the family members of the broke video store empire probably aren’t even familiar with the Harry Potter franchise or what the different Hogwarts houses would even mean for them.
RELATED: 10 Most Heartwarming Moments From Schitt’s Creek
It’s certainly entertaining to wonder how David or Moira Rose would handle having to wear the same uniform as everyone else. They’d probably each find a way to make their school uniform their own, leaving everyone else in their fashionable dust. Here's a fun breakdown of each character's Hogwarts house and why they deserve to be there.
10 Stevie Budd: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
Initially, Stevie Budd was a loner with a fondness for sarcasm. While the latter remains true, the former might never have been true to begin with. Stevie uses sarcasm to showcase amusement, hide insecurities, and as a defense mechanism when upset. It’s a very versatile method of communication, and sometimes it pushes people away.
Stevie isn’t entirely comfortable with this. She’s hung on to the family motel for years instead of selling it and she’s a loyal member of the Rose family, even if she wasn’t born into it. Stevie values these relationships above everything. She’s definitely a Hufflepuff.
9 David Rose: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
David is difficult to sort. He’s got encyclopedic fashion knowledge, but he’s not a Ravenclaw. Though loyal to his sister, he’s not always concerned with playing fair, so he’s not a Hufflepuff either. David can be manipulative like a Slytherin, but he doesn’t have the drive or ambition. His love for attention and tendency to always believe he’s right slides him towards Gryffindor.
David is brave, though not in the knight-in-shining-armor way. He’s willing to have difficult conversations, even when it makes him uncomfortable. David also saved his money and started his own business, diving into life in Schitt’s Creek, despite his family’s previous ventures failing.
8 Patrick Brewer: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
Patrick has the loyal and hardworking aspects of a Hufflepuff, but his love for learning new things makes him more of a Ravenclaw. The audience knows Patrick has a good head on his shoulders given his business knowledge when he and David first meet. Patrick’s interest in music and art also gets him a little closer to that Ravenclaw sorting.
RELATED: Hogwarts Houses Of Chris Evans Characters
There’s also the fact that Patrick absorbs information like a sponge. Yes, he’s interested in David early on, but everything he learns about the Rose family (and David in particular) seem to be instantly memorized. He wants information about everything.
7 Jocelyn Schitt: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
Jocelyn always seems composed. She’s a quiet force on Schitt’s Creek, proud of her small town and the people in it. She never falters when Moira makes a dig at her lifestyle and she continues to work hard, even when someone takes over her projects. With her busy schedule, Jocelyn has the “unafraid of toil” aspect of Hufflepuffs down.
Besides being a teacher, she’s the mayor's wife, a mother, involved in local music and theater productions, and ready with a helping hand. She wants everyone follows the rules and has a fair chance to accomplish their goals. Jocelyn is certainly a Hufflepuff.
6 Roland Schitt: Slytherin
Tumblr media
Like his wife, Roland understands loyalty well. He’s incredibly proud of his family legacy in Schitt’s Creek. He, however, is not as interested in fair play as she is, and his ambition is bigger than his work ethic.
Roland enjoys being the person in charge a little too much. He’s not above finding loopholes to make sure he (or his family) get their way in town. Likewise, he’ll do whatever he has to do to ensure himself a win. That sounds like pretty Slytherin behavior, even if he’s not quite as cunning as he’d like to be.
5 Twyla Sands: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
Twyla is a lot like Jocelyn in terms of temperament and work ethic. It’s no surprise they end up in the same Hogwarts house. During the entire run of Schitt’s Creek, Twyla has been a fixture at the diner. It doesn’t matter what time of day a character goes in for a meal, she’s there to serve.
RELATED: Schitt’s Creek: 10 Things The Final Season Needs To Wrap Up
The one time she does get overwhelmed, Johnny helps her out and ends up with a whole new appreciation for how difficult her job is. It’s a wonder Twyla manages to find time to participate in the Jazzagals or perform in Cabaret.
4 Alexis Rose: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
Some Schitt’s Creek fans might be surprised by a Gryffindor sorting for Alexis. After all, she’s pretty shallow and didn't really understand when she was doing something wrong. Alexis, however, is a Gryffindor in the same ways her brother is.
Growing up in a privileged household, Alexis had the chance to do whatever she wanted. She also got herself into sticky situations but she always found her way out. Since living in Schitt’s Creek, Alexis made the courageous decision to return to high school. Despite being well into her twenties, Alexis attended school with a bunch of teens, got her diploma, went to college, and decided to start freelancing. She completely defied everyone’s expectations.
3 Ted Mullens: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
To become a veterinarian, you have to be able to retain a lot of information about people's pets. In Ted’s case, he’s also got to have a working knowledge of most farm animals. We’ve got to sort him into Ravenclaw.
Ted isn’t just good at his job. He’s also able to use his knowledge about treatments for animals and apply it to humans. For example, Ted helps Alexis when her high school is overridden with lice. Ted even found himself with a once in a lifetime opportunity to work in the Galapagos, a chance he took to satisfy his curiosity.
2 Johnny Rose: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
There’s a part of Johnny who would be at home in Slytherin. He, after all, is a man of ambition. Johnny, however, isn’t manipulative enough for Slytherin. Instead, he’s a man who values his family and keeping them together.
Despite once being a millionaire, Johnny values fairness rather than getting ahead. He has a deep sense of loyalty, valuing those new friends he made in Schitt’s Creek rather than the old ones who ignored his plight. All of his plans involve providing for his family and making sure they end up happy. He couldn’t be anything other than a Hufflepuff.
1 Moira Rose: Slytherin
Tumblr media
Though she often tries to hide it, Moira Rose has a big heart. This doesn’t stop her from giving in to selfish actions and trying to claw her way back to the top. Her ambition alone makes her a Slytherin.
Since the Rose family’s fall from grace, Moira continually resists feeling at home in Schitt’s Creek. She wants nothing more than to become the star she once was and have all the perks that came with her status. Moira tries to get that status back by leading activities and joining the town council, but she still keeps jumping at the chance to get out of town - no matter what she has to do.
