I read some insightful articles on the Referendum and the Israel and Palestine conflict that I wanted to share

I read an article about Supreme Court Justice Roberts that I thought was a great insight into the ethical issues facing the court at the moment.

We’ve seen pictures of the exterior of the Flintstone house in Hillsborough, California, but it was recently on the market, so here is the interior.

I didn’t expect the front doors to open directly into the living room and thought there would be a foyer or some kind of entrance hall.

The home is very sculptural with curving doorways and walls. 

The family room has conversational seating around a cozy fireplace and a window to a colorful garden.

The kitchen is the most artistic creation in the house. Sculpted shelving, a glass island with a cook top, a metal art door, and all sorts of wild formations.

I’m not sure what this is, b/c it’s part of the kitchen. Judging by the liquor and the sink, I suspect that it’s a sunken trough for icing bottles. But, you have to climb in it to get to the sink. 

Here’s a nice game room.

The large main bd. is one of 3 in the home.

It has an en suite with a dressing room.

And a prehistoric stone sculpted tub with toy dinos and everything.

This room is quite large, also.

It also has a large en suite.

Stairs lead to a studio. 

It looks like the “rock” behind the ladder is sculpted. 

A patio with a lovely view of the water.

The bubbly Flintstone house is off the market and estimated to be worth about $3.642M.

Mill at Burns, Oregon Eastman's Studio B-4576

This Eastman Photograph from the 1940's is of the Edward Hines Lumber Company sawmill in Hines, Oregon.

Postcard and Original plate photogragh. Taken in 1946 by Jervie Henry Eastman who was born, July 20, 1880, in White Cloud, Michigan. His family moved to northern California in 1886. In 1898, Eastman launched his photographic career in Sisson, California (later named Mount Shasta), as a view photographer. He became a partner in the Shasta View Company in 1907. Eastman lost his entire stock of plates and cards in a fire in 1912. In 1921, Jervie Henry Eastman moved to Susanville and established Eastman & Company as a commercial photography and post card studio. In 1936 he hired Mirl Simmons, a young photographer from Hillsborough, West Virginia, to help with the postcard photography. In 1947, Eastman and Simmons became partners. The business had expanded to provide photographic supplies to southeastern Oregon and studios in Westwood, Weed, and Susanville. Eastman retired from photography in 1959 and sold his share of the business to Simmons. He died in Susanville on February 11, 1969. Infromation and second photo from Eastman’s Originals Collection at University of California, Davis, Library, Department of Special Collections where much of his work can be viewed online.

Hey, so I can't remember which blog posting about Arctic Monkeys was talking about analysing the videos so I'm coming to you! I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I'm from Sheffield and not a huge number different in age from them, and I'm not going to say Sheffield is in the videos (I haven't checked either and it's probably not), however, what I will say is I get a lot of vibes. A lot of it feels familiar, a great deal of iconic Sheffield buildings were built late 50s to early 70s, plus lots of people will tell you it was one of the heydays. And, I don't think they are, but there are similar looking places for e.g. when he's on the turntable the ceiling looks like the Octagon, the seats they're sat on look like the Lyceum, when the helicopter takes off and the lyrics talk about going into hiding it looks a lot like some of the flats in Sheffield (I tried to check this) etc. There are other pieces of architecture (the old stonework for one), spots around like the car park on the roof, the kind of places you'd watch your mate's band practice. Then there's the snooker. The trees and woodland (which is a notable element of Sheffield and it makes me think of being out messing around). Anyway, I'm not even saying its a conscious decision but it feels more Sheffield than videos of recent albums etc, Alex's accent and dialect is more noticeable, and there's been rumours for years about playing in Hillsborough Park and they are for this tour whereas last time they played at the impersonal arena. I dunno, paired with the lyrics it feels a little like... a homecoming or look back at least? It's so nostalgic. I think the fool is notable in this respect too but then I don't really know tarot.

Oh wow, that is very interesting! According to the director’s post on instagram it looks like they filmed much of it in Springfield, Missouri and then in a studio in London. But I don’t think any of what you said is wrong or an accident! I think the band are definitely going for that nostalgic vibe this go around and looking for imagery that connects with their hometown would make a lot of sense. The snooker we know is important since Alex mentioned it in reference to it being a specific childhood memory, and overall from what he’s talked about in interviews (the lyric about passing for 17 after a shave, the passage of time being so strange because suddenly he can be taken back to a time in the past, them having fun playing older material etc.) I agree that they might be leaning into their Sheffield roots a bit more. thank you for providing some insight into that anon ❤️ Some of the local references and culture specific to Sheffield is often lost on the rest of us who aren’t from there, so it’s always neat to hear from someone who has a personal connection!

WEEKEND ARTINGS: Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Ybor Arts Tour, Fall Fests and more

There's so much stuff happening this weekend, I almost don't know where to begin. But visual art is kind of my brand, so let's start there.

My weekend begins early, on a Thursday, with the Second Annual Ybor Arts Tour. I had a blast on the inaugural art tour last year, which took me to the historic Ybor City Kress Building, The Bricks, and HCC Ybor, all of which I plan to revisit this year. There's so much going on at this year's Ybor Arts Tour, it could be its own blog, but instead I'm going to refer you to Christopher Curry's fantastic preview in 83 Degrees. Clearwater Jazz Holiday starts Thursday with a performance from The Beach Boys. The Sound, Coachman Park, Clearwater. Thurs.-Sun. Oct. 19-22.
