Midnight ramblings are probably not the best, but Iβll give it a go. Still buzzing.
The local gig. So local that an off piste trip to the seaside was on the cards before I got to Exeter. Sidmouth. Very sweet little South Devon seaside town. Surprisingly busy for a Sunday in November. Β£2 an 1 hrs to park. I know!!!! The weather was glorious. I do love to be beside the seaside. The roads from Dorset to Devon are drop dead gorgeous on a clear crisp winters day. Spectacular views across the two counties. ((Not so good driving back with 3 dimmed bulbs gone!!)) trip to the garage later today.
Anyway, Exeter Great Hall by goggle Maps? Surely that canβt have been the ONLY route in?!!! I mean Iβm fond of a wee scenic route but blimey, I saw /felt all the 20mph speed humps Exeter has on offer!
Exeter Great Hall is within the university complex. A very smart set up. Took me right back to using the my Uniβs libraryβs PC with a floppy disc!! ((Ask your parents))
You see, this is the joy of queuing, I met three lovely Mumford fans, Holly, Adam and Renee. It was Reneeβs first ever gig what a way to start and Adamsβs first time seeing Mumford. The excitement was palpable. As were the tins of cider. π.
The news broke that Monica was poorly and would be unable to open for Marcus tonight, and that #tsnsotck would be in the building. The question on my mind was where do you get wig in Exeter on a Sunday evening?
Clearly the answer was you canβt!!
Marcus came onstage as his own support just after 2032hrs.
Treated us to a bit more banter and some classic M&S.
Main tales;
Marcus said Monica was not feeling very well and sent him all our love, sheβs not dead.
Exeter this morning he was on his skateboard heading to a coffee shop meeting his Mum and dad, when he got bitten on the leg by a greyhound! He was angry at first and then found it funny.
He had toured 10 weeks in the states, saying to was too soon into is solo career to do a residency in Vegasβ¦. And was delighted to be home. He had insisted that Exeter was in the schedule to please his mum, and that this venue sold out first! Go Exeter.
What can you say about the music. The more you see and hear the more you want. So loud tonight great acoustics in the room. It was quite a deep room, 1700 capacity I think. Often used as a lecture theatre or graduation ceremony venue.
Lots of bounce in the room, lots of love. Really loving better off high and dangerous games tonight, really great vibes . A shame Monica wasnβt around for go in light but still beautiful. Get well soon Monica.
Lovers eyes, awake my soul, guiding light, the cave, fare thee well. Full self titled and ending on the basement tapes - with a finale of off mic I will wait.
More chat about the dog bite but the Exeter crowd was worth it! Even if he woke up with rabies tomorrow.
He has bought the band all England football T-shirts as a thank you. But the footie is going to be a shit show!
And then it was all over.
Wiggled the car out of Exeter, drove home on full beam mostly. The roads were blissfully quiet.
Quite the Sunday, well worth missing the antiques roadshow. π
Why do you ship sonadow (I ask this in a way so I can hear your analysis on them β€οΈ)
Hi!! That's a great question and this might be too long of an answer but I tried to keep it reasonable! π
When I started shipping Sonadow I'd just gotten back into the fandom after some... idk... 20 years away. Netflix had added Sonic X (which I'd never seen) and I was like... ooo what's this, my favorite character from childhood!? Imma check this out! And I started watching it and then asked myself the age old question 'I wonder if there's fanfic of this?'
And sure enough....
I started with Sonamy fics until Shadow made an appearance in Sonic X. I had no idea who he was. I'd never heard of him before, but I was immediately swept up in his and Sonic's dynamic. The connection they had was deep and instantaneous. It didn't need words or confessions. There was just something there, some sort of inherent understanding. They understood each other in ways no one else ever could. They were equals, so evenly matched that they constantly pushed and challenged the other to be better, and when it really came down to it, they were there for each other. They fought, bickered, and taunted, but in the end they trusted each other, even with little to no reason to.
Sonic and Shadow don't hold back with each other. Each is exactly what they are in the other's presence. For others, they may be softer, more patient, more reserved, but with each other they don't have to alter themselves. Shadow can take what Sonic can give and vice versa. Shadow, for one, wouldn't want it any other way, in fact, he'd take it as an insult if it were. And for Sonic it's incredibly refreshing to be around someone who doesn't put him on a pedestal as a hero. Sonic's a worthwhile opponent, steadfast in his beliefs and understanding of what's right and wrong, and even though both of those things may irritate Shadow from time to time, he respects it.
In a nutshell, I ship them because each is what the other needs and what no one else could provide. They fit together, like yin and yang, and the amount of beauty in that balance in something that makes my writer heart very very happy. π₯°
I'm still alive, just drowning in work and burnt out. π€ͺ I need your help though if you're able! Reply to this post or send me an ask with songs that scream Sonadow to you. I need some musical inspiration! πππ€
Just wanted to say I'm alive, though I haven't been able to write in almost a month. πWork and life have been utter insanity and any moment of time I was able to scrape together and potentially use for writing, my brain wouldn't work because I'm just too burnt out.
I didn't want you all to think I'd hopped out of the fandom or abandoned anything! Once things calm down I desperately want to get back to writing and am hoping that can happen in the next week or so. π
Just popping in to say hello and that I'm still working on things here and there, just been super busy with life. I basically have to take PTO from my job to get any writing done at this point. π
I told my boss and coworker in a meeting today that swashbuckling had romantic connotations and I'd like to thank the Sonic Fandom for this random bit of knowledge that now exists in my head rent free π΄ββ οΈ
My dad would be overjoyed to know I'm watching Youtube videos on how to handle, hold, and operate different types of guns.
Wonder what he'd think if he knew it was all just research for gay cartoon hedgehog fanfiction. π€
