Okk so just random thoughts i had while i was repeatedly listening to empire now by hozier i am not sure if anyone will read this but will still add hastags in hope of finding people who i can maybe talk with

The lyrics go so well with the current situation of the world i mean i know it was written about the irish independence but the lyrics resonate to me so much about palestine and the current situation of manipur and kashmir and every place going through oppression around the world i was hoping for some edits for palestine to pop up on this song but sadly saw none and not only palestine it goes so well with the stories of so many places taking in the example the native americans or may it be the british colonisation in India the song was written for the hearts of all the people who at one point of time saw what it was like to not have what was their's.

Made me think how the current comforts i have and live with right now, the peace and freedom that i can enjoy was something my ancestors fought for it was a dream for them which let me have it their struggle in the past has brought the privilege i have in the present and now the same comforts i am enjoying is a dream for the people in palestine fighting for their land, it is a dream for the people i manipur of my very own country whose people are bleeding it is a dream for the people of ladakh who are losing their land to industrial plants while i sit here writing all these are people bleeding, straving, fighting, struggelling to keep what is THEIR'S.

Rightfully so.

These lines remind of how in the past my ancestors found the land that was exploited, that the land they were refused to have freedom on was deemed unusable that the west had deemed backward, the land the west had pride on occupying, and still found for it cause it

It made me think of all the people who are making sure to keep records of the truth of what is happening in the world like bisan, before oct 7th i never knew who she was now i check for her updates just to know she is alive to know what is going on in gaza and always hoping for some positive news to come the fact that i was blind to all this before 7th oct it took soo long for people to realise what is happening there makes me sad. It makes me mad at myself for not having learnt all this before. It made me think of sonam wangchuk who has been restlessly posting and fighting for the people of ladakh for their demands to be heard for them to get what they require and deserve.

I took this one line separately cause when i hear this one particular line unlike the others i can't make a connection to the past i only connect with my worry for what the future has in hold, is mother naturw going to surivive that long will we humans kill each other till no one is there to exist just cause me hate each other and keep finding differences among ourself even though at the end of the day we are all human i don't know i feel like we are just killing our future not letting it to stay and we will be the reason our earth will end.

In the same manner the names of the people who are now struggling for freeing palestine will become immortal in the future while it may seem like there is no impact from them the content they have put up and are continuing to put up is the record of history and what the future generations will be learning about cause they are the true heros

We don't talk about 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire's Helga Sinclair nearly enough, and it's about damn time that we started, I think.

For context, we're talking about the year of our Lord 2001. As far as I recall (and bear with me, I was about 5 years of age at the time) the feminist undertones that have flooded Hollywood films in recent years - as, arguably, a direct result of the 'Me Too' movement - weren't particularly noteworthy, much less noticeable.

There were some outliers, quite possibly, but it was pretty 'meh' at this point in the game, when it came to empowerement, feminism, and straight-up compelling female characters in the animated film front. They weren't the norm, or the trend. We were lucky if a Disney Princess managed to subvert expectations - even just a little - in a satisfying way, rather than fall prey to tired old tropes, such as the over-sexualization of female characters. Exhibit A: Pocahontas.

(feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken)

So, here comes Atlantis: The Lost Empire, at the turn of the milennium, blaring a horn that seemed to say 'hold my beer'. To this day, I still find it shocking that this film actually got made. The representation present in this film is so staggeringly good, it makes me mad and want to cry. It's that good.

Sure, you could easily try and argue that in certain regards it falls prey to stereotypes from the groups it tries to portray, but this is one of the very few films that I'd be willing to argue (and defend) didn't actively do it out of malice, or as a blatant, on-the-nose attempt at representation as we see on today's blockbuster-obsessed film landscape. It reads more like an honest attempt, flawed though as it may be in some regards, rather than being the butt of a lazy punchline.

It's not your typical 'Le Fou is going to be our first gaaaaaay on the live-action remake Era! 🌈 #Pride ' or 'empowering feminist moment in an MCU film, deeply undercut by the fact that this character barely has any screen-time or a compelling character arc'.

The representation in Atlantis - again, perhaps not perfect, if you actively try and find glaring flaws in it, you absolute killjoy - was simply way ahead of its time. And, sadly, remains to this day. Few films today seem as invested (as Atlantis) to try and replicate what adds up to a genuinely groundbreaking moment in modern cinema history. Hell, some films seem downright terrified of the prospect, due to fear of poor box office returns, being cut out of certain foreign markets - who happen to bring in a lot of money... as long as you stay in line and don't try anything too radical - or worse: turning out to be problematic. Hastag gasp.

How many queer characters have been kept secret or vague or relegated to a blink-and-you-miss-it scene in the past 5-or-so years? Off the top of my head, you've got Paranorman, Frozen, Finding Dory, with many other films like Storks and The Mitchell's vs. The Machines faring a little better, with the end result being equally unsatisfying and restrained. And that's just in the animated film landscape. 3 second lesbian kiss on Rise of Skywalker, anyone? Le Fou in Live-action Beauty and the Beast? Gay *unnamed* character in Avengers: Endgame? Queer-coding in Frozen? LUCA?

(again, if you feel like some of this examples are unfair to enlist, feel free to explain why)

So, Helga Sinclair. What. A. Character. Here comes a woman who seems insanely -refreshingly so - confident in her own body, who likewise seems well aware of her sex appeal, and who, even in her very last moment - despite being painfully aware that this is the end of the line for her - decides to go (not so) gently into that good night with an EPIC one-liner that remains engraved in many of our heads to this day. Ugh, her MIND. When I think of memorably female characters in animated films, she's easily in of the top spots.

On top of that, I feel like queer folks - especially women - can find a lot to love in her character. Her confidence, her sass, the animation work, the voice acting, her physicality, the fact that she feels like an active participant in the story and like there's more to her than meets the eye. She's one of the antagonists, but you can literally see her hesitation, and her shock, and how she reacts to the world and situations she's caught up in. She's not just a villainesque, femme fatale-type, one-note side-kick. She's a legit character that's a joy to learn more about. As a queer man, I find her character to be so flawlessly executed, even though she's neither a protagonist, nor queer (arguably), or one that has such a significant amount of screentime, compared to a character like Kida or Milo.

So, you know, give us more of that, perhaps? Not just more characters like Helga Sinclair (boy, do we need them), but just... more daring and inclusive and unique films. Don't be afraid to make mistakes; work your hardest to make sure you avoid them in the first place. Listen and be humble. Approach individuals who actually know about our respective struggles as minorities. Don't guess; ask.

And even if you do make mistakes, why let that discourage you from trying? I'd take a refreshing and unique character - or narrative - that tries to approach storytelling differently, over the sterilized, formulaic tired-old tropes that are quickly becoming the only way to approach representation in film and the media we consume in general.

Take risks, and try. It's okay not to be perfect and right, all the time.

Tumblr algorithm is tricky

You see one post we no hastags or much filter: 100.000 notes

But when you post yours with 100+tags and spent time photoshoping it: 10 notes

Usually those posts with no tags that get so many notes belong to blogs that have already built a huge following that sees the posts anyway. They can post “I am off to bed” and get like ten thousand notes.

Also sometimes it doesn’t matter if you add a hundred hashtags - your first five must be common searched because these are the ones that hit the explore page. Use the generic ones up top and the specific ones in the end.

Then other times it’s sheer luck or something I haven’t figured out yet. It depends on whether a famous blog saw your post, liked it and reblogged. Sadly if a famous blog doesn’t see it, your post will not go very far. Like I have said before in a me versus me example, I hate my top 2-3 posts that have blown up disproportionately, not because I regret posting them or I think they are bad, but because I don’t see them having anything better or more special compared to all the others that I post, which perform decent / average / bad.

lately i saw that many blogs are being asked about basic things of how to use tumblr so i decided to make a mini guide with super basic things to start using the app :)

above in your profile you will be able to see:

your username

by touching it you can see all your accounts and you will be able to create more.

a loupe

that you can use to search your posts or people you follow.

a color palette

which is used to edit the entire appearance of your profile. you can change your photo and its shape, your header, the background or button colors, the color and font of your name, etc.

a nut

by touching it, you can access to advanced options to edit your profile and the general settings of your account.

by touching the nut you will have:

where you can customize notifications, messages, responses, switch to dark mode, etc.

advanced options

you will be able to see your followers (only you can see them), your drafts, you can enable your inbox and you can see your messages, you can hide your likes and your following, etc.

below in your profile you will be able to see:

is the start menu, the posts of the people and the hashtags you follow appears.

a loupe

general tumblr search engine. you can search for blogs, hastags, posts, etc.

is to make a post.

by touching the pencil:

you can put text, links, gifs, photos and videos, audios and hashtags.

by pressing on (Aa) you can change the font and when selecting a word you can change its color, thickness, inclination, size, you can add a link so that when you touch the word it takes you to a link, etc.

by touching the 3 dots at the top right you can save that post as a draft, set a schedule for it to be published, save it privately, etc.

if you like someone else’s post, you can reblog it to share it on your blog (it’s the same as retweeting on twitter).

tip: TAGS

tags are used to organize your blog to find information easier and help your posts reach more people.

for example, if i put “#larry”on all my posts related to larry, a tag will be created on my blog called “larry” with all the posts where i used that hashtag.

as we already know, we can put a link in a word so that it takes us to another post, web page, etc. but we can also create a link so that when it’s touched it takes us to one of our tags.

you have to copy the url of your blog, add /tagged/ to it and then put the name of the tag you want.

my url is https://comeonwykyk.tumblr.com so if i want to create a link that takes me to the “larry” tag of my blog i will put https://comeonwykyk.tumblr.com/tagged/larry

if my tag has 2 words or more for example “#larry stylinson” i will connect the words with a + therefore it would look like this: https://comeonwykyk.tumblr.com/tagged/larry+stylinson

the general functioning of tumblr is the same, it doesn’t matter if you are from a phone or a computer, but if you access from a computer you will have more functions.

if you access from the web page/computer app you will have a part called “edit appearance” where you can do many things, including enabling anonymous questions and changing the name of your ask button.

you will also be able to see your activity and the amount of likes you received.

using tumblr from a phone is easier than from a computer but when making posts it’s better from a computer since you can put more than 10 photos/gifs, you can add a “keep reading” so that your posts are not so long, etc.

al tocarla accedes a opciones mas avanzadas para editar tu perfil y a la configuración general de tu cuenta.

abriendo la tuerca vas a tener:

donde podes personalizar notificaciones, mensajes, respuestas, cambiar a modo oscuro, etc.

es para hacer un post.

podes poner texto, enlaces, gifs, fotos y videos, audios y hashtags.

presionando sobre (Aa) podes cambiar el tipo de letra y al seleccionar una palabra podes cambiar su color, grosor, inclinación, tamaño, podes agregarle un link para que al tocar la palabra te lleve a un link, etc.

tocando los 3 puntos arriba a la derecha podes guardar ese post como borrador, ponerle un horario para que sea publicado, guardarlo de manera privada, etc.

si te gusta mucho un post de otra persona podes darle reblog para compartirlo en tu blog (es lo mismo que dar retweet en twitter).

tip: TAGS

los tags sirven para ordenar tu blog y encontrar información mas facil y para que tus posts lleguen a mas personas.

por ejemplo si yo a todos mis posts relacionados con larry les pongo “#larry” se va a crear un tag en mi blog llamado “larry” con todos los posts en donde yo usé ese hashtag.

como ya sabemos, podemos poner un link en una palabra para que nos lleve a otro post, pagina web, etc pero tambien pueden crear un link para que al tocarlo los lleve a uno de sus tags.

tienen que copiar el url de su blog, agregarle /tagged/ y a continuación poner el nombre del tag que quieran.

I have noticed that when  I am seeming to have my best days in the classroom, so are my kids!  We feed off each other.  That got me thinking what can I do to keep that positive energy flowing.  I know, I know, behavior specific praise (BSP) is old news, but when was the last time you tracked your rate of BSP to corrections ratio. You might be surprised by just how many times you correct your students opposed to praising them.  Have a work friend tally for you for a duration of 10 minutes the number of times you give BSP and the number of times you correct student behavior.  Use this cool tracking sheet to track your data.   When I feel myself having a teacher slump, I ask a work buddy to track my praise to correction ratios.  Sure enough, I have slipped from that 4:1 BSP ratio.

·         Creating a fun and engaging classroom

Through the years as an Earth & Space Science teacher I have taught science in 4 different rooms, 2 being actual science rooms, 1 a portable and most recently a room designed to be a reading intervention classroom. The most recent one, although not a science room, was such an upgrade from the portable because of running water!  The hard times make us realize how much we can appreciate the little things.  I want to share with you today how to make a fun and engaging classroom no matter where you land!  

My new room has just one giant bulletin.  I divided it up into three sections.  You can see my favorite part behind this young man, my Instagram board.  I change out hastags throughout the year and add some of my favorite pictures.  Students are also encouraged to bring in or send in pictures of their own that they feel correlate with the hashtag.  This way we make the room our own!  This board was from beginning of the year as I modeld the tradition #teachersummer and #lastyearsfun.

Give the kids room to move.  I may teach middle school but these kids still need room to spread out and move.  The space behind this young man was intended to be a reading intervention room.  It makes a great staging place for labs to able to get materials ready for each group.  All they have to do is walk in grab their materials and head back to their lab tables.  

Kids are social learners, elbow to elbow and face to face, putting lab tables in small groups allows them to collaborate and learn from one another.  

·         Teaching with a sense of purpose

My favorite day of the week is always Thursday.  This is the day Ecology Club meets!  A collection of 6th, 7th and 8th graders who all love the Earth gather together to make a difference.  I get to share my passion with these students, see students of years past and get to know students I never even taught.  These students have spoken against destruction of local wet lands, gone bird watching, planned Earth day lessons for the student body, and so much more in the name of the Earth.  These kids reinvigorate me, give me a sense of purpose, and make me want to be a better person for our Earth and as a teacher.  

·         The importance of self-efficacy

To finish up this blog about positive teaching, we have to think about ourselves positively.  Too many teachers I know, downplay their amazing attributes and are way too hard on themselves.  Two key ways you can build yourself up positively is to stop the negative self-talk and accept the compliments graciously.   Rather than internalizing the difficulties we have and what we may not be the best at in self-talk focus on what we do well.  So often we don’t even acknowledge the positive attributes that other identify in us.  When people compliment us, accept it and think about how you can use the positive praise to continue to grow professionally!

The more the merrier! <I'm following this along with you guys and have been preparing what I am going to do and am having a hard time deciding for some days between a few ideas, so I'm sure you are too! Do both!! Do more than one book, do more than one type of edit..Just do it!! Pick both! I'd say a max of 5 things a day <if you're really feeling it for a few books or edit types 5 is a good number, so no more than that, don't send me like 20 for one day..hehe🙈>

The Blocklist: A essay (this is very long)

I know everyones sick of it at this point but I got shit to say so feel free to not read this absolute unit of a poorly written essay. The jjbablocklist divided their list into two different list now. One for creators and one for consumers/rebloggers and I cannot stress enough about how dumb that is since it shouldve been done since the beggining. Also, following alot of these artist and “consumers” of these medias, I noticed some of them are falsely accused, others while being minors. here’s why:

1. A lot of teens and young adults in the community like ships like GioMis, FuMis, NaraGio, MisTrish and plenty more and I know your singular shared braincell cannot handle the idea of 2-3 year age gaps not being pedophilia, but uh, newsflash for ya, THEY AINT. Legally, it is not a crime and that in america where the age of consent is 18, not in Italy where its 15 and not in Japan where its even less. Under the general United States Law, which is where I assume the list makers/defenders are mostly from, these ships are not classified as pedophilia or should be problematic and the ages of consent change to lower ages depending on state. The only way you can add these shippers for their “crimes” is if they promoted or created the interactions of these characters in a sexual or intimate manner whether they are aged up or not, which is still wack if their age is above that of the age of consent in writing/art and the fact that minors, in this case teenagers with the VA cast, are allowed to express themselves with people of their own age group in a sexual manner, real life kids do it all the time amongst themselves so why shouldnt people be able to create it, the whole ordeal is ridiculous imo BUT I can see how it makes a lot of people uncomfortable, a lot of it makes me uncomfortable too so we gotta make compromises somehow so absolutely no lewding the mafia lolis/ jojo lolis in general and if you do, tag it properly so it doesnt spread onto the basic hastags of characters and the show. If you dont you on the list.

2. Claim genderswapping/r63 is transphobic all you want but until I see clear and definitive proof of it being purposely made for that purpose then it’s absolutely ok. If someone makes it to offend someone then its wrong and they should be called out for it (which has never been the case in this fanbase as far as I cant tell) It’s creative, it allows people create new desings for characters or adjust current ones for cosplayers or other artist. Im sure one of your mods can relate, since the do the exact same thing as we do while not addressing a certaint character properly by their canon pronouns. Genderbending does not promote the attack or harrasement of the trans community and that is a fact unless its done by actual problematic artist like Sh*dbase and others, which is still a stretch because I dont think they’ve done it to target people or make fun of them but they are the popular problem icons. So get the actual transphobes on the list, aka those who created the content specifically to harras a specific person, or remove the catergory entirely. Its unnecessary and hypocritical.

— The rest of these are just things that bother a lot of people in the community so if you only cared about minors being on the list then you dont have to continue reading. —

Tumblr is infamously known to be a shitshow of a site where all you can find is problematic content. If you dont like this kind of content, why the hell are you here in the first place? There’s a lot of safer websites to use where like instagram, twitter, amino, facebook, and more. They have actual filters unlike tumblr and finding content you dont like is a lot harder unless you are purposefully looking for it, and even then it could be a challenge due to shadow bans or privatized accounts. Tumblr has none of that, everyone knows it, all of those who dont like it try to stay away from it or use it very scarcely. Why do you think that most of these “problematic” artist/creators/consumers are here? Tumblr has always been its own weird realm, trying to make it anything else goes against what it stand for.

You’re crimes make are literal nonsense sometimes because you include such obvious personal attacks like “Made a literal essay defending GioMis” and “All kinds of awful stuff” as crimes. You added a few account because they message you about how ridiculous the whole ordeal is and you take to findind the slightest bit of “evidence” that can aid you into making them look bad. You know thats not a good reason right?? Even if it were, yall are even more guilty for committing acts of Liable and Defamation and you are choosing to for those you incorrectly put on the list, invluding the minors! Let alone hypocrisy but yall are tired of hearing that one.

Dont add other fandoms into this mess. The Hetalia fandom has been dead for more than 5 years and it aint none of your buisness. It has nothing to do with Jojo. Unless you plan on making more blocklist for ALL fandoms then, goodluck, though make em better.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is a wonderful and yet problematic series, guess who’s fault it is... its Araki’s. Created a hilarious nazi character, nah its the fanbases fault for roleplaying such a funny character. Pedophilia and rape represented in Jojo and not treated seriously, nah its the fandoms fault for romanticizing it. Homophobia as character traits and degradation of women in Jojo, pfft nah f a n d o m s f a u l t for painting such “false” representations of the characters. Ah, but yall wont drop Jojo cuz that kid your trying to control media for wont drop it either. It is not your responsibility to create a childproof community when the show already has heavy themes. Its their caretakers/parents or the childs own responsibility.

I despise the argument “well Jojo is a 17+ only show so no kids allowed!” you might be right, but has that really ever stopped kids from doing anything?? It does the opposite, it creates a sense of overwhelming curiosity which leads to venturing unkown territory which they may or may not end up enjoying. The problem lies wether young teens are mature enough to watch it or not and judging by this whole fiasco, alot of the people, teens and adults, involved are not.

I will give you this guys this, theres a few artist and creators that do belong there, very few as far as I could see and read into and some are missing since they are mostly on twitter instead of tumblr. But hey, I managed to find like 12 accounts that I probably wouldn’t like seeing the content of, and I found a lot of good accounts too. A hell of a lot more.

I know Im harsh and a total loser but y’all really gotta do some damage control and think ahead. Merely ignoring the fact that your movement cause a floodwave of hatred, deaththreats and suicide baiting is disgusting, adress it properly, dont condone it. Cuz Im yall wouldnt like 200+ messages of “Kill yourself you of lowlife degenerate. I dont like your the disgusting trash you like so I hope you rot in hell for the rest of your life” It isnt fun, a lot of people have received these, some are even worse and a lot dont even deserve it.

Run the list correctly, its a good idea, it could’ve been handled way better than this and you guys know it. This would’ve been great for 14 year old me not stumbling onto a lot of problematic ships when I first looked up Jojo and it can help many children in the community in the future, but you are ruiling out a majority of the fanbase with such vague and pointless rules as regular shipping and creative freedom. You are demonizing people who like basic shipping and different character desings, and that’ll scare them because they dont want tobe hated for something they like. Because a few biased opinions decided to rule out that what the kids liked is morally wrong and irredeemable. Cuz thats all I can see on the list with the exception of maybe a 12 people on the list. Thats all the rest of the JJBA community sees.

What are your tips and tricks for staying motivated to continue writing?

Thanks, Jackie!  I’m flattered you are asking me that! I have one story I’m trying to finish currently (The Hypnotist), and I am struggling a bit with motivation, so this is timely. Thanks for this ask!

1. First, know WHY you write. I write because it brings me Joy and a sense of accomplishment. It’s something I’m trying in middle age that I ruled out because it wouldn’t earn me a living. I wanted to write something to prove that I could do it. I faced my fear of rejection with putting my words out there. Fanfic is a great place to practice and see what works and what doesn’t. 

2. LEARN FROM FAILURES.  You may go back over previous drafts or uploads and cringe. Don’t. Ask yourself why you are cringing, identify your strengths and weaknesses from writing, and use that as a focal point to work on improving your current project. Writing is rewriting. 

3. READ. Read other people’s work, read novels, read magazines and study what moves you. Don’t copy someone else’s work, but pay attention to what you liked. 

4. CARRY A NOTEBOOK EVERYWHERE. If that’s impractical, you probably have a smartphone - there are apps that let you dictate with the mic in your phone. My favorite is WriterPlus, but there are others, I’m sure. The main thing is that when you get that thought in your head that’s a good idea, get it down quickly so you can come back to it. That way when you DO have time to sit down and write, you’ll have a notebook of ideas, thoughts, quotes, etc. to build upon. Time management is hard, and I burn out sometimes when I’ve got so much to do and so little time to write.

5. Don’t sweat it if you can’t do regular updates. I know - that’s a cardinal sin, right? Maybe. But if writing has gotten you to the point where your friendships, work, family or home life is suffering, your priorities are out of whack. You will probably lose readers. You won’t get the kudos a “hot” story will. But again, WHY are you writing? 

6. Listen to music, look at art, go for walks, swim, exercise etc. for inspiration. Some of my best ideas have come to me when I’m doing that. The endorphins are going and your mind can wander. Just don’t forget to jot it down when you’re done! 

7. Quit comparing yourself to other writers!  This is probably my #1 motivation killer. I’ll read something a fellow mutual has written and want to throw in the pen, so to speak, because I’m thinking, “I’ll never top THAT.” Well, guess what? I don’t have to! And it’s an opportunity to learn. It might even help me improve my next chapter. 

8. Do an outline. If you’ve gone off course, go back and rewrite the outline and put in what you’ve changed so you can follow it. Nothing’s worse than goofing up your continuity. 

9. Don’t take negative feedback personally.  Feel grateful readers are invested in your story enough to comment. If they are unsympathetic toward a character and that’s NOT what you intended, now you have a heads up that you need to fix it in your next chapter. If someone pointed out a continuity problem or typo, thank them for it and FIX IT. People get so damn sensitive about that shit that they don’t realize someone just saved the story by pointing it out. Those are beta comments! I like them, at least. Some people don’t, but just hearing “you’re great” when there was an actual storyline problem isn’t going to help you be a better writer. Try to interact with your readers and encourage them to say anything they want, because it’s going to help you!

10. Don’t take it so seriously. Writing should be a pleasure. It’s not (or shouldn’t) be a competition. I’ve asked writers since the time I got on Tumblr through now how they do it, and the answers are all varied, but I think all writers experience frustration and burnout at some point. And self-doubt. Even the writers that make my jaw drop because they are so good have said that! So go easy on yourself, and if it’s stressing you out, put it to the side. Are you getting paid for this? No. 

11. Brainstorm with a reader or fellow writer. Tell them you are stuck and ask for help if you are really in a bind. When I first started writing this story, I bounced ideas of a few people, and that generated a lot of ideas just by having someone listening. I asked a reader who likes to PM me for feedback, and while she was very shy about doing so, I asked questions such as what she wanted to see in the next chapter, if adding in other characters felt like a distraction, which parts of the previous chapters hooked her and what was forgettable. And thank them for it, because that’s a really solid favor they are doing for you! You will be surprised how much that can motivate you to get going on your story again!

Whew - I didn’t realize I’d learned that much! Hope it helps someone out there. And I always appreciate hearing what motivates other writers!

Tools I find helpful:

1. Grammarly - free online, premium version is $45 (wait for them to cut the price down to that if you get it). 

2. WriterPlus app (for taking notes on your phone using text-to-speech)

3. Scrivner (I just bought this and haven’t used it yet, but I heard so many positive things about it, I went ahead and got it)

4. Google Docx - If you haven’t tried it, this is a great way to work with another writer, show someone your work, have someone proofread your work, etc. 

5. Playlists - Whether you use YouTube, spotify, Itunes or whatever, music that inspires you or helps set the mood for your story is a great thing to have on hand.

6. Capta and PicStitch for moodboards. 

7. Screen captures - invaluable if you are going to promote your story or someone else’s on Twitter. I still haven’t got the hang of it, but since your character limit is reduced on Twitter, you need to have a short and sweet summary, and you need to upload a snapshot of that taken on your phone and then upload that plus a moodboard, and then that gives you room to add the AO3 link, Reylofic hastags, and something catchy. I’m still trying to figure out Twitter!

You already know this, but I Love Him?

Universe: Beforus!

Name: Malvas Temess

“Malvas” is a corruption of “Malphas” one of the 72 demons of the Ars Goetia, reflecting the nature of the last two trolls as tempting/guiding/advising figures to Parisa. Malphas specifically is in the form of a crow, and destroys men’s thoughts- a sly reference to Breath. “Temess” is a corruption of “Tempest” as in “Stormy, tumultuous, volatile”.

Malphas is also known to openly accept sacrifices, but then deceive and betray those who provide the sacrifices, which I think is fun for this ‘tricking people to do dumb shit for him’ thing.

Age: Roughly 7 Sweeps

Theme/Story: Malvas really doesn’t care what happens to you, as long as it’s interesting. Ideally he can film whatever unfortunate event befalls you and post it on the internet as well, boosting his fame as a video maker. Malvas thrives on getting other people to do the work for him, and he lives for the drama, which makes him a dangerous friend to have.

Ohhh gosh, I just realized he reminds me a little bit of the first antagonist from Psycho Pass. Not really as far as motivation goes, but there’s an adjacent outlook. So I might use just a little bit of Shogo Makishima in my visual design later.

Strife Specibus: Sniperkind

Malvus likes to stay far away from the action, and doesn’t like to take damage. He is a goldblood after all, and any damage he takes will last, unlike those highbloods right there. They can take a hit and be just fine.

Definitely makes sense for someone who likes to watch from a distance! It also gives him the excuse to choose a perch, which gets him Off The Ground, literally reinforcing his breath theme. 

Fetch Modus: ????

{I’m stumped on this one}

Vine/Do It For The Vine Modus! It’s pretty simple, he’s just got to take a 6 second video that involves the object in order to free it up for use. Vine Was a great way to put out a ton of clever quick videos to gather attention. He could do something neat with the objects. …Or he could just put the objects on his head and mock highbloods (especially the culling foster parents) like Vine Teens used to do with random objects used to represent their mothers.

Blood color: Gold

Malvas knows he’s a genius, and that’s the scary part. Like most goldbloods, he prides himself on his intelligence, but he hides it behind a sort of airhead, easy going personality. He plays the hypeman because he knows it’ll make him good money. It’s all in how he phrases it, it’s all in the editing. Like many of his caste, he has a tendency to be a neurotic when it comes to his videos, and refuses to publish the ones he puts effort into until they’re absolutely perfect.

GEMUN, THE UNBRIDLED

“Tapinosis” is the rhetorical, fancy word for “name calling”. It’s a good way to goad people into acting rashly and without thought to the consequences of their actions, y’know?

Much like he’s subposting on a certain social media platform, Malvas starts all of his phrases off with hastags, which helps demarcate the flow of his thoughts when the enter key won’t. He draws out his words because it helps add to his “causal and breezy” facade.

God this is really good. 

Special Abilities (if any): Malvas’ proximity to highblood is fueled in part by his own disabilities. Inflicted with a psionic disease akin to voidrot from an early age, his eyes have started to lose pigment and his psionics have all but burnt out completely. Thanks to revolutionary culling technology, he’s mostly able to lead a full life, but it’s at the expense of his privacy.

Lusus: Speaking of privacy, much of Malvas’ life has been without it. As a culled lowblood, he’s been at the mercy of highblood ever since he was a youngin. He’s bounced from place to place, from Purple clownhouses to underwater, Violet palaces. Regarded as a curiosity, a burden, and worse, Malvas fled into hiding as soon as he was able. One of highblood friends keeps his life support systems in check. She’s handy like that.

Parisa’s doin’ at least a bit of good. I love thinking about the dynamic these two would have.

Interests: Gaining Lots of Money, Lowblood Culture, Social Media (Short videos especially), ?????

Video editing, obviously. And if he’s interested in gaining lots of money, he probably knows a lot about SEO. And he could be interested in Affective Science, since understanding the science behind anger/competitiveness/etc would be of great help to him in goading people.

Appearance: Partially due to trying to conform to everyone’s idea of a perfect lowblood, Malvas is something of a boring looking troll. Until you get a good look at his face. Instead of gaining color as he ages the way a normal troll would, his have steadily gotten darker and darker. Without the aid of the mechanical life support system regularly cleaning his blood of psionic residues, he’d be black eyed and blind a long time ago. Truly, it’s just a ticking clock now…

Most important to Malvas’ look is the backpack-like extension of his life support, which he shouldn’t take off for long periods of time. He tries to hide it beneath coats and such, but it’s not particularly effective.

Personality:  Malvas is detached and much too cunning for his own good. He hides a ruthless, all consuming anger beneath a facade of chill. Perhaps had his life not turned out the way it did it would not be such a pose. He has the potential to be the kind of zen friend that a lot of violent highbloods would need to keep them from blowing smoke, but instead he has internalized and become the very thing he hates.

There’s a kind of sadism, a spiteful hate that fills him, much like his murky blood fills his eyes with darkness. There’s nothing more pleasing than watching the people who mistreated him (that is to say, all of highblood society) destroy themselves and each other with just the slightest nudge. A little suggestion here and there is all it takes. This also leads him to be a bit full of himself, but it manifests in a smug aura as opposed to recklessness. He knows his physical limitations all too well, and feels that his mission is too important to risk dying. He’s on borrowed time, and they have all the time in the world.

This is Really good because he’s taking that classic breath leadership, that natural tendency for people to gravitate towards him and follow his lead, and instead of being like a good person to follow he’s shoving the lemmings off the cliff. That’s such a great way to play the breath route with him. Maybe you could also add a little element of him using disposable accounts to dredge up internet drama between other internet personalities. Big fights between various trollter Famous stans, passively creating the direction of aggression. (And it helps that this elevates Parisa a little bit, whether or not he would direct drama her way. Any publicity is good publicity).

Malvas is very much a Breath player: he’s easygoing to a fault, capricious, and well content to sit on the backlines and let things flow over him. Gemun is called The Unbridled for a reason- Malvas is the kind of troll who doesn’t let other people tie him down, even as he exploits them for his own monetary gain.

It’s often assumed that as a passive creation class, Sylphs are to be something of the most helpful classes. And much of the time, this is true. But Malvas is not your saving, guardian angel. Passive creation of Breath is the same as the Active Destruction of Bonds. Since his main clientele are highbloods, one could argue that he’s Destroying Blood, namely theirs, the highest and most prized.

Malvas is the “Do It For The Vine” hype man as an extension of his class. Wreck your car! Gamble away your savings! Risk your life! Ruin your public standing! By encouraging his “friends” to do these things, he is passively creating movement and freeing them of their shackles.

Nothing says “clean slate” quite like burned bridges.

LOL god I LOVE this for him. Because he is doing a little bit of that classic sylph meddling, but it’s in the most destructive way. Instead of trying to nudge people on the right path, he’s shoving them off the railway. Even as someone who does videos and stuff, he creates trends, which makes him a direction-based leader. He makes the path and the people follow. He can influence people to do all kinds of risky and wild and friendship-destroying shit, it’s just brilliant. 

Land: The Land of Stone and Statues

Malvas fears death viscerally upon landing on this massive land of dark stone, built into towers so high they block out the sun. His consorts have long since died out, but they seemed to have been great builders.

How they did it? It would seem to be an army of statues, bound to each site by some kind of advanced cable. But something’s gone wrong- the cables that were supposed to give them life have become ropes that strangle them. They will never move again without help. It’s up to Malvas to try and restore some freedom of movement.

Dream Planet: Derse

As a lowblood, Malvas is well aware of his position on Beforus as someone who’s not considered “able” to make it in the world. This kind of pity insults and infuriates him, so he’s spent his whole life emulating the ways of the highbloods, creating a easygoing, subservient persona to better fool them with. Watching them burn for the aesthetic is sweeter than any mind honey.

Design: 

Horns/hair: I just wanted the horns to reflect the symbol, nice and simple. The hair is mildly based off Shogo’s mullet. 

Face: I wanted him to look relatively chill and calm, but also have that hint of tiredness and smugness. Thus the smirk that’s approaching a 3-mouth. 

Outfit: I wanted to keep things relatively simple, but wanted to give him some mild visual interest regardless. A white coat with a big but simple collar, with some deformation to show that there’s something hidden beneath it. You can see a peak of a backpack strap with some settings as well as a few small tubes filtering his murky blood. His pants and shoes are just ripped and edited from Cronus’.
