what's going on in the congo since there's also a genocide happening over there as well:
to sum it up, people in the congo are literally being worked as slaves to mine for this material called coltan, which is very valuable as its used for things like phones, laptops, just electronics in general. Congo is the number 1 producer for this material and the places behind this genocide is America, Britain, France, and Israel, wow what an absolute shocker. The worst places probably to ever exist benefit from a genocide. These places are funding Rwanda and Uganda military groups, to go into the Congo and kill MILLIONS of people. This has also been going on for YEARS. Many women have been SA'd and men are forced to work in INHUMAN conditions, resulting in their death and the colonizers are absolutely benefitting from this. 6 MILLION people have been killed and half of them are literally kids. Many of the Congolese people have also been displaced.
Please speak out about and raise your voice

for anyone who isn’t aware, friendsofthecongo.org/campaigns contains a list of actions you can take to help the democratic republic of congo, including pdfs of postcards you can print and send to a list of tech companies to tell them to stop using child miners AND a letter you can sign and send as well (+ potentially incorporate the main points of that letter into any scripts you might already be using for emails or calls to your reps!). friends of the congo also has a volunteer application form and a youtube channel

images I screenshotted towards the end of this video clip:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original Tweet/X Post states: Presenting, "your sustainable future with eV batteries" Brought to you by: Cobalt Mines of Congo. Twitter/X User Response to this video, originally: What scares me is so much "green" technology and products and such are built off human suffering. The entire world is built on this. The entire world is irrevobaly tied to mass exploitation and I desperately hope that changes in my lifetime. #CongoGenocide #CongoIsBleeding
I have attached a video below these Tweet/X images of Congolese people in Cobalt mines. Video Description: Men, in front of a large, dark brown and muddy area of the mine are digging other men out of a hole that have been inside, excavating for Cobalt. These men are not wearing any protective equipment; other than something to cover their eyes, like goggles and lights attached to them. There is a crowd of people surrounding this area and many are cheering them on; a few men are pulled out due to the velocity/force of being pushed out of the mine area they are coming out from. It looks like the mine is opening up and down like the entrance of a beast's mouth. The exit of this part of the mine opens and closes several times during this video. I took a screenshot at the end of the video to showcase how many people have gathered, and there appears to be hundreds.
*UPDATE: The original person on X, formerly known as Twitter, who posted about this story as a re-tweet, is transphobic. I was unaware, and it was recently brought to my attention. For anyone who has read my pinned post or hasn't yet, I do not align with TERFs/transphobes/transmisogynists. I cropped out the original tweet/X post and added their initial commentary on the video just for context, my apologies for the oversight.*

Just a genuine reminder, simply liking and reblogging posts or just paying attention to what's happening in places like Palestine, The Congo, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, etc. Does help!
If you can't donate or boycott because you're a minor or in a situation where you can't afford to try signing petitions and spreading awareness so others who can afford to can have information
Edit: there are a lot of good suggestions for what to do in the reblogs that I forgot to mention

Y'all still boycotting, right? Still following the BDS movement, right? You still remember that Boycotts are for life, right?? You read that the Israeli Zionist Occupation is connected to other ongoing genocides, e.g. in Congo, right???

I saw someone make a similar post and didn't want to distract from that one by adding on: On this Valentine’s Day please don’t forget about the genocide in the Congo. An ongoing issue in the Congo and nearby countries is that enslaving children to pick cocoa nuts is common practice in the chocolate industry. People buy lots of chocolate candies during Valentine's day, contributing to this human rights crisis.
I recommend referencing the chocolate list from The Food Empowerment Project (FEP) before purchasing chocolate whenever possible. FEP is an organization that advocates veganism and does a ton of research and activism around the rights of agricultural workers. The chocolate list is a culmination into which chocolate brands are likely and unlikely to be sourcing their chocolate from the areas of the world where slavery is most rampant. They have a desktop version, as well as a mobile app. I find the mobile app easier to use, fwiw.
