I just need to say how much I love the second season of To My Star. I can’t believe that the second season of a show that was already in the top of my absolute favourites list managed to surpass itself. The story, the directing, the ACTING - seriously, the acting is beyond amazing. Kim Kang Min and Son Woo Hyeon blow it out of the water, they are genuinely that good. Everything was SO GOOD. I just finished watching the final episode and I won’t be getting over this show, ever. I love Hwang Da Seul. I love Son Woo Hyeon and Kim Kang Min. I had to get that off my chest, even if I’m just shouting it into the void.

I don’t think there’s ever been a bigger tonal discrepancy between what a movie poster looks like and what the actually movie looks like.

And these other ones are even worse!...

This one (French DVD release) is probably the ‘best’ though I feel like it’s not a good design and is still off…

This is a damn good movie though. The color-grading and some of the editing choices reminded me that it was in 2003 in South Korea too, but I am gonna make a point moving forward not to keep harping on about my hatred of the mid-00s film aesthetic. I'm a broken record.

Writer-director Jang Joon-hwan has a fascinating though limited feature-length filmography. He's only made three pictures in the last 20 years and they all seem vastly different (although he's allegedly been tapped to helm the English-language remake of this, his debut). But he clearly has a sense of style...

As previously mentioned, this is way more gritty and gruesome than one would ever expect given the initial goofy hats and movie poster and title. The unveiling of this dark world is done with patience and I loved how more and more of the torture chamber is slowly revealed and the movie just keeps getting darker and darker, making you wonder why this green planet deserves to me saved at all. And while, sure, that point is made explicit by the film's ultra-convoluted batshit, 2001-aping, expo dump of an ending, it didn't dilute the experience for me. It's all too weird and unique to pick nits. It's an impactful and memorable movie. One that legitimately earns its cult status. A big win for TRUE RANDOM!

Rambling About a Show (11/10/2023)

I had originally started this on Wednesday 06/14/2023, ended up busy with life and distracted with other things. I decided to re-start it Wednesday 11/08/2023. I finished it today.

This show was pretty intense from beginning to end. I adored Hong Woo-jin's and Kim Gun-woo's relationship. I admit at first I didn't like Hong Min-beom. After what Kim Myeong-gil's men did to him, I honestly felt sorry for the man. Another duo I adored was Hwang Yang-Jung and Lee Du-Yeong. Episode 6 had me all sorts of emotional. I cried from the start of the episode until the end. People online weren't kidding when they said to have tissues on hand. I can't believe what had happened to everyone. I cried so much.

Gun-woo says to Mr. Choi Tae-Ho that he doesn't have a way with words. Then he persuades Hyeon-ju in episode 3 with his words. Like, this man knew exactly what should be said to get his point across. This is why I adore his character. He thinks he doesn't have a way with words, but he actually does. But only when it comes down to him needing to make a point. This wasn’t the only time he was able to persuade using words. The way Woo-jin attempted to persuade Kim Hyeon-Ju into hiring him and Gun-woo was absolutely hilarious to me. That honestly made me love him more.

I went into this with some knowledge of a cast switch. The reason why it had happened. I also knew some people's opinion on the show seemed to be going smoothly up until episode 7. Right around the time they had to replace/fire Kim Sae-ron(Kim Hyeon-Ju)for the controversy they created. I personally think the show still went on pretty smoothly.

The way we went from one grandfather and granddaughter duo to a second was pretty cool. I thought Oh Da-min was adorable. I also loved that she's an archer. The way she told the boys that she's going with by showing off her skills was my favorite scene.

There's so many likable characters that I'd love to talk about. The ones I didn't like I don't have much to say about them. Except that they got what they deserved in the end.

Opinion

This is a very good series, I binge watched it in a few days. I loved the queen! How strong, resourceful, and independent she was. I loved all the characters, especially the queen and prince Seongnam. I also loved how the king was very supportive of her. The series had a lot of different topics, from motherhood to sexuality. It's a drama series. There are no gore or sex scenes. I recommend this series to anyone who likes history dramas.

South Korea has advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Cup with a 2-1 comeback win over Australia in extra-time at Al Janoub Stadium, after Son Heung-min scored the winner with a sublime free kick.

Australia had taken the lead just before half-time when they cleverly switched flanks with neat passes in the box. Then, a cross from Australian player Nathaniel Atkinson found teammate Craig Goodwin, who had time to set himself up for a successful volley into the bottom corner.

Forward Martin Boyle could have made it 2-0 when he received a cross into the box, but goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo made two saves to deny him. Mitchell Duke’s volley from the rebound, meanwhile, went over the bar to give South Korea a reprieve.

South Korea coach Juergen Klinsmann made a tactical change in the second half, pushing Son further forward. The strategy worked when Son, a Tottenham Hotspur forward, was fouled in the box by Australia’s Lewis Miller in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Hwang Hee-chan stepped up: The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward took his time to calm his nerves before he fired his effort into the top corner to force extra-time — their fourth goal after the 90th minute at the tournament.

It was the second straight game for South Korea going to extra-time, after they beat Saudi Arabia on penalties. This time, Hwang won a free kick on the edge of the box from a foul conceded by Miller once again.

Son stepped up and saw his effort sail past the wall, beating goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to find the net. The goal sparked a wild celebration, with Klinsmann letting out a roar with his arms raised.

Australia’s attempts to fight back suffered a blow when Aiden O’Neill was sent off after a video assistant referee (VAR) review for a foul on Hwang, reducing Graham Arnold’s side to 10 men for the second half of extra-time where they could not find an equaliser.
