Anna @fullmetalgirl98 and I also have a hell of a good time singing this one. The first time we did it we kind of went off the rails because damn this bitch ain't easy, but I nailed Doppo's verse and we both started jumping and might have traumatised a couple of nuns.

We're halfway through this challenge!!! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° ARGHHHH, the immediate choice would have gone to Murder at the House of Magic. Because, geez. Singing Dice's parts makes me feel sooo cool! But I feel like I've talked enough about it. And I could really quote an infinite number of songs and parts of Ichiro, Dice, Gentaro, Doppo and so on, but I suppose I have to choose just one song, so... ¯\_₍ッ₎_/¯ Let's give these bad boys a chance to shine, too, considering I haven't mentioned MTC so far.

This song slaps so damn hard. I know every.single.word by heart.

The introduction kicks ass alone, with that sort of military-style march/countdown that I think is simply perfect for the badass side of MTC (the other side is the one that evokes Yokohama sunsets, but that's off topic now).

The refrain gets me so much, but the thing that makes me feel extremely cool is playing Samatoki, who starts out in a vaguely bored tone with his usual slogan "Raifu is notto feaa" (translation: Life is not fair), and then gets pissed off toward the end of the verse in such a cool way! AAAARGH.

And then also the point where Jyuto says "Nanda, temee?", with that sort of sarcastic chuckle at the beginning that also makes me feel really cool while playing him.

And also Rio?? Strangely enough? I love that way he says "Ten mo iran KAUNTO"

Not to mention the pressing rhythm with which Samatoki attacks in his second verse. I simply can't refrain from beat my foot on the beat!

Introduction ⚡️

Raiden Otoha(音羽雷電), a.k.a. Tesla on rap battles is an electronics design engineer and the 2nd member of Chiyoda Division’s 狂音INC.. He’s a genius in the field of electronics, aspiring to one day be called a ‘mad scientist’ just like those he idolized so much since he was little. A former delinquent, Fusao saw potential in his brilliance and scouted him to work at his audio equipment company, Wonder⇓anD Sound Systems.

It’s believed that he joined the DRB not only to let people further know about his ‘genius’ but also to enact revenge against a certain priest from Ginza.

Appearance

Raiden is an albeit taller than average man in his mid-late 20s. His beige skin is littered with countless burn marks, most notably one on his right eye and at the palms of his hands. He has shoulder-length, black hair with blonde inner colouring dyed in to match his golden eyes, whose pupils grow abnormally large whenever he gets excited; sometimes, his bangs are held back by a yellow clip in the shape of a wing. He has two beauty marks under his left eye.

At work, Raiden is usually seen with a white button up, a black tie, black pants and brown dress shoes. His shirt is partially unbuttoned as to reveal the tattoo on his neck: an ECG graph.

Outside work, he puts on a beige overcoat and a black harness underneath that, and his dress shoes are replaced with knee-length boots whose soles further add onto his height.

He always wears gloves regardless of the situation.

Hypnosis Microphone

Raiden’s Hypnosis Microphone takes the form of a handheld mic, the band right between the windscreen and the handle has 2 prongs on opposite sides. The handle is black with a yellow triangle containing the letter T stylized to look like thunder on it, lastly, the bottom of the handle has a yellow lightning bolt sticking out.

Raiden’s speakers is a replica of the Wardenclyffe Tower, the lab building that accompanies the tower has all of its windows replaced with speakers. Lightning strikes the top of the tower depending on the beat. Whenever he activates his mic, a ‘high voltage’ warning written in white with a red glow flash around his speaker which disappears after a couple moments.

Raiden’s rap ability, Death Ray 936 electrocutes his target, stunning them for 3 turns, he can only use his ability for 3 times in one battle and the cooldown is loooooong.

Raiden’s rap themes mainly revolve around the mix of ‘lunacy’ and ‘genius’ and sinking further into madness. He references breakthroughs in the history of electromagnetism a lot; he also raps about how there’s one absolute truth: physics and that there is no higher being besides that. Another thing he raps about is refusing ‘adulthood’ not in the sense of growing older, but rather letting go of one’s dreams and aspirations just for pleasing the world around them and becoming a husk of yourself.

If it’s not his turn to rap he’ll most likely laugh like a maniac in the background.

Personality

Unfortunately for Raiden, he comes across as loud and obnoxious at first and practically lacks an inner voice. He believes in his own abilities a lot and this pretty much causes conflict with his co-workers quite often, though, he is very passionate towards his work, even if sometimes it doesn’t really align to the kind of job he took.

Due to a large part of his childhood, he has great distrust and disdain towards adults and has a different perception on what counts as one. He rarely gets along with people older than him.

Despite everything though, he’s an honest person through and through, he immediately goes to the point in things that he wants to say. He is very loyal to people he consider important and he can get quite overprotective toward his loved ones a lot, though this comes to a point that he wouldn’t hesitate to resort to violence (and even destruction) if it meant their sake.

As for that vigilante persona of his… that’s something else to talk about in another day.

Introduction 🕸️

Kohaku Meguno(愛乃琥珀), also known as KANDATA-KUN in rap battles, is an errand boy and second member to Echizen Division’s Clockwork Lament. A former syndicate member, he now makes a living off of running errands for other people, he seems happy the way he is right now, though there seems to be a chip on his shoulder that couldn’t budge, and it’s believed that this leads to his past connections with both the syndicate he used to be in and his older brother.

He claimed to have joined the DRB just to support his friends and protect his division but there’s a rumor that he’s also in it to find leads toward a certain “Hisui.”

Appearance

Kohaku is a short young man with a brown complexion, his eyes are of a red-violet colour, and his messy hair is a mossy green; his mouth is that of a cat’s and he has a small fang sticking out at the left.

He has quite the amount of scars around himself, most of them from tripping on rough surfaces when he was younger.

He is typically seen wearing an off white, off-shoulder sweater with black, knee length shorts and a black hoodie that he always kept unzipped, he has white, below-the-knee socks with a spider web embroidered at the sides and black and white sneakers. Hypnosis Microphone

Kohaku’s Hypnosis Microphone takes the form of a dark red paper cup, it has intricate spider web patterns on it, its windscreen is inside the cup and the cup has a long, thin red wire wrapping around his speaker’s shoji screen.

His speaker is a giant, black spider with speakers on its abdomen and eyes, it rests on a shoji screen and painted upon the paper of the screen is a depiction of hell showing many sinners tormented in various ways, the painting’s focal point is a girl in a burning carriage and her pet monkey. The wires of his mic connect to the giant spider.

Kohaku’s rap ability, MELOS, gives him a temporary speed boost; he can only use this twice per battle.

Kohaku’s rap themes revolve around hell, doing whatever to escape from it and clinging onto everything that’d still give one any trace of hope; he also talks about how things like second chances are as flimsy as a piece of thread. He incorporates a lot of alliteration in his verses. He also sneaks in subtle jabs toward his older brother.

Just like his teammates, he also references various literary pieces, he usually leans to short stories and references to religious texts.

Personality

Kohaku is said to be a troublesome brat, he seems to not take things seriously and he is very full of energy and enthusiasm. He is mischievous, liking to play small pranks on others for kicks, this annoys some of the elders in his place however he does all of this without any malice.

In the other hand however, Kohaku has very low self-esteem, he doesn’t think he is a good person at all, having lived most of his life in crime just to barely get by the days. He often blames himself for bad things that happen around/to him, including thinking that he is a burden and that’s the very reason his older brother abandoned him in the first place.

However, despite no longer being part of the syndicate, he still retains his cunning side from those days. If it meant that he can use it as an advantage in a situation, he’d use it without hesitation.

Introduction

Lyall Shiba, also known as Corvus in rap battles, is a homicide detective for the Niigata Police Department and is considered one of their best despite his age. A once famous model and actor, everything changed for Lyall when he had a run-in with “The Sweetheart Killer” and became the only one to ever survive him. Now, after discovering that the person who attempted to kill him is participating in the DRB, Lyall has convinced his boss, Seiji Tsukimoto, to let him join his team.

Lyall is a tall man in his early 20s with a lean figure and is considered extremely handsome. He has slightly wavy black hair that stops at the base of his neck and right swept bangs covering his forehead. His eyes are bright turquoise and are hidden behind a pair of round black rim glasses. A notable trait of his are the multiple track marks on his arms from his drug addict days. He also has several tattoos across his body.

He usually wears a white button-up shirt, a black dress tie with a silver lion pin in the middle, and a dark blue sweater vest. He also wears black dress pants and black dress shoes. For accessories, he wears a pair of silver studs and a silver watch on his right wrist.

Lyall’s Microphone takes the form of a metallic black stand with silver swirls engraved on it, sitting where the mic should be is a dark blue crystal crescent moon with a silver wing sprouting from the side. In the middle of the crescent is a piezoelectric-style mic.

His Speaker takes the shape of a giant black coffin that, when opened, releases a giant flock of ravens and multiple black circular speakers that surround the coffin.

His rap ability, Cursed Bond, allows him to be bonded with his opponent, and if he is knocked out, his opponent is forcibly knocked out along with him.

Lyall’s rap centers about how we should honor the dead and that we should strive to never forget them. He raps about how he’ll never rest until he can give closure to the families whose loved ones have been brutally murdered. He also raps about the occult often making reference to imagery related to death.

Personality

Lyall is known to be quite flirtatious and confident, with many falling for his charms and a smooth way of talking. Well aware of his good looks, Lyall is not above using them to get information out of people. He is also quite intelligent, using his unmatched intuition and sharp observation skills to see through everybody, a skill he uses to his advantage.

Lyall is extremely obsessed determined to solve his cases, going as far as to twist and even straight-up break laws at times. He is under of the opinion, that why should it matter as long as he can provide some sort of closure to the families of his victims. Even if it means getting in trouble with his supervisors. However, underneath his charming smile, Lyall suffers from extreme guilt. Even now, Lyall doesn't understand why he of all people survived the Sweetheart Killer. It eats at him, with Lyall in the past even going as far as abusing drugs to ignore how he felt. Now, after learning that Touya Kisaragi has been allowed to roam free, Lyall can't help but feel something new. Revenge. Lyall can feel it festering within him. He can't help but want vengeance against the person who tried to kill him and who killed so many others, even if it means throwing everything else in his life away.

Max Soukoku, also known as Ōkami in rap battles, is a young high school student in his final year who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Strange and often times feral, it’s unknown why a person like him has joined the DRB but if one listens closely, they can hear him constantly muttering a name as he cleans the hatchets he keeps close to him.

Max is a young man with boyish features and a lean yet muscular build. Personality

At first glance, Max comes off as a reserved and reclusive guy, he barely speaks and when he does, it’s in short answers and sentences. He’s not shy, not in the slightest and people who mess with him quickly find that out after a trip to the ER. It’s obvious that he’s not used to people due to having little to no contact with the outside world for the better part of his life but with the help of Ren and Kaiji, he’s finding it a bit easier to integrate into society. There’s still quite a few bumps in the road however. Max is observant and perceptive, he’s smarter than he looks and he uses that to his advantage, he can thank Kaiji for that.

Among people he trusts and feels comfortable around, there’s a shift in Max, he becomes more talkative and comfortable with himself and his surroundings but is still on his guard. He gets a bit playful and actually acts like his age somewhat, his personality a bit similar to that of a dog. He’s immensely loyal to those he knows he can trusts and will not hesitate to hurt or eliminate those he considers a threat to them or himself, he’s an excellent fighter and an even more efficient killer.

A few people can probably tell but only Ren and Kaiji know just how possessive Max is, he’s very territorial and does not like to share what or who is his, people who try are lucky to escape with their lives, not that they ever live to tell the tale. He goes borderline feral and out of control whenever he feels the object of his…affections? is slowly slipping away from him and both Ren and Kaiji can barely calm him down. There were a few cases where he had to be physically restrained.

Max is an assassin…or serial killer, same difference that works for an organization called “The Commission”, he’s one of three proxies to the leader of said organization.

Max was born with congenital insensitivity to pain, meaning ever since he was born, he could never feel any pain inflicted onto him.

He was born in Japan but spent a few years in America, where and doing what is unknown but Max called it the “turning point” in his life.

Between me and Niky @justanotherniky there’s one rule that should NEVER be violated: no talking about SHOWDOWN.

This song has an impressive potential to make people cry with just the first instrumental seconds. It's not for nothing that this is a song I basically never listen to. And this is not because I don't like it, in fact, it's quite the opposite! It's a truly beautiful song, but my brain simply refuses to listen to it. I just can't. I get a lump in my throat every damn time I try. The tricky thing is that the music is in stark contrast to what is expressed in the verses, which are so aggressive instead [brief due quote to the Hifudo x Gendice moment, in which I literally FLYED. Gentaro was particularly...uhm...evocative.]. So it doesn't come immediately to mind that these 9 men are yelling the worst things at each other, rather the first thing I thought of when I first heard it and looked at the MV (another great idea to make people cry, uh?) is that this song imparted a sense of something unquestionably coming to an end. The feeling I get is really that of "oh hey ... this beautiful story is coming to an end for real ... :') " I can't think about it, I mean ... I can't really project myself into the idea that sooner or later this will really happen, that there will be no more updates on Hypmic, that the whole universe created by Chuhoku will crumble and consequently there will be no point in keeping the basic plot alive. In short, the project will reach its conclusion. And I have a feeling that we're already getting a taste of that, recently.

The sound effect at the beginning, when each division shouts its respective name, is beautiful, contributing to this sense of epicness and absolute finality. But the issue, here, is the chorus, the last one, in particular: "I’m expressing my existence, It’s no one elses I’m here to verify the outcome of this battle, this deciding showtime

The voices, the sounds They resonate with this seesaw game-like live

Be it success, be it disappointment It will be affirmed by our progressing lives" It fu**ing kills me. Every time. I always feel a very painful twinge in my chest when it starts, with that sense of magnificence to remind me that it truly is the final battle alkhdglakdjfg :') The MV, on the other hand, also puts its own spin on it. Right from the way it opens, with the three groups running off into the sunset, raising splashes of water and dust, exactly recalling epic scenes from war or greco-roman movies, with these factions running at each other, and then EVERYTHING EXPLODES.

The live version has an even more commanding impact, with the band on the elevated stage and those flames shooting to the beat of the drums into the sky (link). Amazing. ------------------- Ok, now i'm gonna bury myself under the blankes for the next 2 hours to work off the listening of this song I forced myself to do for this post :)

She appears modest and hates to put anyone through trouble, going so far as to refuse any help. Reika holds herself with a grace that makes her beloved by the lower-class people of Shizuoka.
