a thought while i'm in my post-concert depression/steddie writing brain mode...

this could possibly fit several different fic ideas i have, but the main piece i'm connecting this to right now is my one omegaverse fic where eddie leaves to go make music w his band and steve keeps his pregnancy a secret. and the thought is that song on fire by nickelback would absolutely be something early career rockstar eddie would have written about steve.

like just picture this with me for a second:

eddie is in love w steve. he wants nothing more than to tell steve how he feels, but he worries that steve won't feel the same. he's afraid of rejection. he's afraid of ruining the good thing they have going. he doesn't want anything to change. and then the band gets a record deal. they have to move to a different city, hours away. he wants to ask steve to come w him, but he knows he won't. steve can't leave hawkins. at least, eddie doesn't think so. he never asks. he just leaves.

he doesn't know that steve is pregnant. steve doesn't even know until like at least a few weeks, maybe longer. who's to say? steve never tells him. he doesn't keep up with anything corroded coffin is doing. it hurts too much. he doesn't want to think about eddie being out there like that. it just made the pain worse any time he tried, so he stopped trying.

eddie is struggling to write new music. everything he writes is about steve. it's about pain and heartbreak and losing the best thing you've ever had. it's all about grieving something he never had and living with the consequences of his own actions. the band knows. they understand. the label doesn't. it's not what they signed up for. it's not what they think is gonna sell. they threaten to replace eddie, or drop the band altogether, if he doesn't give them what they want. he needs to get this out of his system. so he sits down and writes a song.

the pre-chorus comes first. it's the easiest. the simplest. it's what he's been trying to say all along.

i write lines down, then rip them up / describing love can't be this tough

the first verse is easy too. it's honest. painfully so.

the first words that come out / and i can see this song will be about you / i can't believe that i can breathe without you / but all i need to do is carry on / the next line i write down / but there's a tear that falls between the pages / i know that pain's supposed to heal in stages / but it depends which one i'm standing on

the chorus and bridge are his strongest, but they're also the hardest for him to write. Which every word, with every page ripped out and crumpled in a pile on the floor of the shitty apartment they're all crammed into, he's closer and closer to an epic breakdown.

i could set this song on fire, send it up in smoke if / i could throw it in the river and watch it sinking slowly / tie the pages to a plane and send it to the moon / play it for the world, but it won't mean much / unless i sing this song for you

light this old guitar on fire, i'd still hear the notes / drown the melody in water, i'd still hear its ghost / sing it with somebody else, but we'd be out of tune / play it for the world, but it won't mean much

he doesn't expect much to come from it. he just needed to get it out. he needed to channel his energy into something. he doesn't even intend for anyone else to see it. He write it on his acoustic, barely even considers what it would sound like with any other instruments. he is fully prepared to rip it out of his notebook, lock it in a box, and never look at it again. and then gareth finds it. maybe gareth likes the lyrics, or maybe he just thought eddie needed to do more with it. maybe he tries to convince eddie to call steve. i think eventually he shows it to jeff and freak. they like it. they think it's good. they ask eddie to play it. he's reluctant, but i don't think he can hold out on them for long. i think they're persuasive, at least with eddie. he has a hard time saying no.

they make it a whole production. they write the rest of the music. they show it to the execs. they like it, at least a little bit. enough to give the song a spot on the next album, if they can tweak it and record it in the studio, mix some sounds. so they do. it gets a spot on the album, at the very end. it's the second to last song. it's not very popular among the general public, but it becomes a relatively well-known fan favorite. it's liked enough. they rarely play it live. eddie can't bear playing that song, a song he wrote for steve, live in front of any sized audience.

i think somewhere down the line, long after eddie comes back to hawkins for the first time since he left, long after he finds out about the pregnancy that everyone hid from him, and after he and steve finally work things out, he does play it.

the first time he plays the song, it's sitting on the couch in his house right outside Indianapolis. the house he bought for steve, so they could stay close to everyone they loved. eddie had enough pull by then, maybe they changed labels or got a new manager. the band is doing well. they have a nice following, big headlining tours, money. they a couple platinum records. the song falls through the cracks early on. it never gains any real traction in the industry. it's a small song on an early album that most people don't pay much mind to. but eddie needs steve to hear it.

so he sits on their couch with an acoustic in his lap. steve sits beside him, watching with so much love and adoration in his eyes. the pups have long since gone to bed. it's just them. eddie plays. he doesn't look at steve once, not until he strums the last chords and the vibrations fade out. and when he does, steve's eyes are shiny with tears. there's a small smile on his face. he tells eddie he loves him. eddie thinks maybe he can play the song without it hurting so much now.

the song gets added to the setlist for their next tour. and it's only because eddie knows steve is going to be there. their pups are going to be there. his family will be watching, safe on the sidelines. he doesn't have to worry about them. he no longer feels the same deep-rooted sadness that he used over this song. and as the song starts, the stadium quiets. the crowd is no longer screaming. at least, not as loudly. and not that eddie can tell anyway. he's not paying attention to them. he looks over and finds steve, standing in a sectioned off space with security blocking them from the rest of the crowd. he hand one pup on his shoulders, the other clinging to his leg. Eddie smiled at them as he steps up to the mic and begins singing.

he doesn't look away until about halfway through the song. it was only going to be a quick glance, gauge the crowd's reactions, and then he realizes that it's brighter than he thought it was before. the stadium is lit up with lighters from almost every hand. so many voices song the words back at him. his eyes land back on steve, who is smiling and singing with him.

everything is perfect. it doesn't hurt anymore. he's found his way back home again.

so anyway that was WAY longer than i intended it to be but it's there. the thoughts have escaped. now you have to live with this too. you're welcome.

(also if i started a permanent tag list for like all my little bits and bobs now that i'm kind of posting semi-regularly ish?? would anyone wanna be on that? lemme know ig idk)

WOW!!!!!! Can you believe it? We're done and it's time for the CSSNS23 Roundup!!!

@hufflepuffinstorybrooke opened us up this year on July 1 with a wonderful soulmates OS called If You're Lucky, Love Leaves Scars, that I was privileged to make artwork for. The fic left me in tears and melting at the same time!

On July 3, @teamhook posted the first chapter of her fic The Last Witch Hunter, inspired by the Vin Diesel movie of the same name. Only one ch so far, but I'm absolutely captivated and eagerly awaiting more! Very intriguing artwork by herself.

@spartanguard dropped her Killian's evil twin MC on July 5, Sons of Love and Death, with artwork by herself. That artwork, of two incredibly handsome guys shouldn't be as chilling as it is, but IT IS... The fic is completely written and she's been updating weekly, so we're on ch9 of 13. Just sayin, but I'm about ready to use a certain dagger on a certain evil twin.

July 7 @goforlaunchcee posted Smoke and Mirrors, a HOOT of a ghost story, with such lovely artwork by @piinfeathers that perfectly captures CS in this fic. Three chapters are up so far, and I can't wait for more!!!

July 10, @killiansprincss posted her OS A Court of Vines and Shadow inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses, with absolutely gorgeous artwork by @hollyethecurious. I was not familiar with the source material, so I was completely surprised and delighted with this fic!!!

@athenascarlet posted her merman Killian OS on July 13, The Merman with a wonderful visual on Tumblr 😏 Just a regular night between a sheriff and her merman pirate... Would love to see more of this, but it's staying a OS... for now, she says...

Also on July 13, @anmylica posted the first chapter of Fly With the Black Swan with amazing artwork by @zaharadessert. We have two chs of ten up so far, and I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for more!!!!

On July 15, @whatevenisthisbloganymore posted the first chapter of Forest View Apartments, a ghost story that has the questions swirling through my mind and eagerly awaiting the next installment! Amazing artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare!

Speaking of @undercaffinatednightmare, real life has been very rude lately and has left her unable to post her two planned fics for this summer, but she has managed to make the artwork for them both that you can find here and here! I love her writing so much and I know whenever RL lets up, both these fics are going to be wonderful!!! *EDITED* The first of her fics, A Charming Curse, has now posted and it promises to be FUN!!!

July 19, @deckerstarblanche posted An Offer She Can't Refuse, with more lovely artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare. Emily only planned two chs for this very hot and sexy Omegaverse fic, but she took it in a very angsty direction in the final scene of ch2, and so has now promised that she'll come back and add one more ch to give us all the happy ending we deserve!

July 22, @zaharadessert posted a very hot demon Killian OS, Sacrificial Lamb that made bloodthirsty Krystal VERY happy. I was once again privileged to make artwork for the fic, with an assist by @motherkatereloyshipper who was responsible for the Emma edit I used.

July 23, @mie779 posted the first chapter of Finding Caldera: The Hidden World of Dragons, with just lovely artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare. The adventure of this fic is just wonderful! We're on ch9 and nearing the end!

On July 25, it was my turn to post for the event! Into the Light was inspired by the 1987 movie The Lost Boys, my very first introduction to vampires and it has never left me! Incredible artwork was created by @motherkatereloyshipper that still just leaves me staring at it slack jawed!

@hollyethecurious posted the first chapter of The Law of Surprise on July 28. Now complete in three parts, this beautiful BEAUTIFUL but also heartbreaking fic was inspired by the law of surprise from The Witcher. Breathtaking artwork was provided by @eastwesthomeisbest and can be found here, here, and here.

@xarandomdreamx posted her CS Practical Magic AU A Crystalline Knowledge of Love and Magic on July 30. Beautiful artwork by @hollyethecurious. Only one chapter so far and my heart is so broken for Emma and Elsa but also completely in love with the story!!!!

Rounding out July, @caught-in-the-filter posted original artwork featuring ghost Emma and vampire Killian that was absolutely CHILLING!!!!

@snowbellewells started Aug off on the 2nd with an incredible one shot, Deluge! Gorgeous artwork by @eastwesthomeisbest. I am so hopeful that Marta will eventually write more of this wonderfully intriguing fic!!!

Then, @eastwesthomeisbest was so inspired by Marta's fic, she made her own original art in the same vein as the art she made for the fic. Absolutely breathtaking!!!

On Aug 8, @booksteaandtoomuchtv posted the Prologue and ch1 of Witchy Woman. I have sooooo been waiting for this fic and so far, four chs in, it is hitting ALL my buttons! Artwork coming soon from @cocohook38.

On Aug 10, @cs-rylie posted The Journal, a seriously SCARY fic, only 3 chs in, inspired by Native American legend. Artwork by me, again with a much needed assist from @motherkatereloyshipper who was responsible for Milah and the journal itself.

@iamstartraveller776 posted her new fic, To Cleave Destiny on Aug 13. Featuring Demon Killian, just this Prologue has me on the edge of my seat!!! Artwork coming soon from @cocohook38.

@exhaustedpirate posted Parent for Hire on Aug 14. A Mandalorian inspired fic, Caro has melted my Captain Cobra heart so many times already, only four chs in. She also did moodboards to accompany each ch that you can find on each of the Tumblr ch posts x x x and I was also privileged to make a banner for the fic.

On Aug 16, @grimmswan posted the first chs of TWO fabulous fics!!! Dracula in Storybrooke comes from the woefully underutilized Land of Untold Stories arc, and Love Bites (But So Do I) is a supernatural adventure of vampire Emma and werewolf Killian. Artwork coming soon from @cocohook38.

On Aug 18, @snowbellewells posted her second fic of the event, Carolina Moon. A fic inspired by the Nora Roberts novel of the same name, my heart is already, only two chs in, broken for Emma and on the edge of my seat waiting for more! Beautiful artwork again done by @eastwesthomeisbest!

@jrob64 posted Saying Goodbye and Moving On on Aug 20, a DESPERATELY NEEDED and ABSOLUTELY PERFECT fix-it fic from the Underworld arc. I was again privileged to make artwork for it, and I'm just gonna have to accept that I almost can't make picsets anymore without the aid of @motherkatereloyshipper. For this one, she was again responsible for ghost Milah.

Aug 22, @padfootprongslet posted the Prologue for Like Our Love (Falling Down and Over Again). A Mr. and Mrs. Smith inspired fic, my heart was absolutely SHATTERED in this first ch and I can't wait for more! I was again privileged to make a picset for this with @motherkatereloyshipper coming in the clutch entwining the rings.

On Aug 24, @jonesfandomfanatic posted Stolen From Time. Now complete in three parts, this fic was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! @motherkatereloyshipper made a beautiful video to accompany it.

Our final fic by @wyntereyez will post in the next few days. She’s dealing with a hurricane at the moment, so she’s excused! Artwork by spartanguard. Can't wait! *EDITED* the fic and art are both now posted!!! I melted at Kait’s artwork, and I cackled and melted repeatedly reading the fic!!!! AND I am BEYOND EXCITED that Jamie has more to come in this universe, because I NEEEEEEEEEEEED it!!!!!

Soyeon and Yuqi find each other during Yuqi's heat

Warnings: Omega/alpha, heat/rut, g!p, fingering, oral sex

My first time writing an omegaverse fic... I hope yall enjoy♡

She ran through the woods as fast as she could. She needed to get out of the territory. Once she crossed the border they would no longer have any claim over her. They wouldn't be able to force her into something she did not want. Push her into a mating she did not want.

Yuqi believed in finding her mate. Her other half and she didn't care they weren't a part of her pack. Unlike her father.

She could feel the heat growing inside her and she didn't have much time. He was a sadistic asshole and chose this night on purpose. When yuqi would be so distracted by her heat she would run into the arms of any alpha that came her way. Only yuqi wasn't just any omega.

She taught herself from a young age how to ignore the omegas urges to follow an alphas orders. How to ignore an alphas voice. She learned how to defy them and not feel any pain or regret.

So all she needed was to stay strong for another few minutes until she could cross the border. Just another few. She was so close.

And then she smelled it. A mouth watering citrus wafted through the air. Unlike anything she'd ever felt a sudden desperation flowed through her as her wolf went crazy and the heat only grew even stronger. Her mind became hazy as she moved faster in the direction.

"Why do we have to stay out of the border again?"

"The stupid ritual," soyeon rolled her eyes as her camp was the last she had to set up. Her friends helping before they'd return to their posts.

"I heard he locked his daughter away to ensure she wouldn't run away before."

"Why so we want a peace treaty with them again? Aren't they homophobic as well?"

"Yes, but we need to align with the surrounding packs to beat the clans. You know how they've grown."

Soojin sighed, "still. I don't like this."

Soyeon nodded at her, "none of us do but we have to deal with it. We have to keep watch and patrol for them tonight while they do their ritual and then we move in tomorrow to sign the treaty."

"Whatever. I'll see you in the morning," soojin waved goodnight to soyeon as Minnie followed her.

Soyeon kept watch for a few hours before she started to feel sleepy. She walked a little closer to the border as she could hear howling and assumed that must have meant the ritual was on going. She sighed as she felt sorry for the pack alphas daughter. An omega locked in a fate she could not do anything about.

Soyeon started to turn around until she smelled something sweet. Almost like chocolate and cinnamon mixed together. She turned in the direction it came from to see a girl emerge from the trees. I white nightgown flowing around her. The bottom covered in dirt and the flower crown making her look like a princess. Soyeon immediately knew as their eyes locked, mate.

But judging from her scared eyes and clothing soyeon immediately knew who she was and why she looked so scared.

"The border, you have to cross," soyeon said to the girl to break her from her trance, "they can't smell you when you cross. There is a protection casted so your scent couldn't leave but if you cross they won't be able to locate you."

The girl seemed to take in her words as she got closer. She hesitated as she reached the border only five feet from Soyeon. Until she stepped over. The other wolves must have noticed the loss in her scent as they suddenly went crazy. Just how many alphas dan after her hoping to win her?

Soyeon stepped forward but the sudden smell of the wolfs heat made her alpha go crazy.

"I'm sorry," she said as she fell to her knees, "I need-"

Soyeonvblocked her nose as best she could before moving forward and bringing the omega back to her feet.

"They might check the border and ask about you. You can hide in the shelter. There's scent blockers."

She nodded as soyeon helped her inside, "you need to stay quiet."

The omega immediately falling to the small bed soyeon had made for herself. Soyeon stepped out breathing to find the blockers hid the omegas heat. Her heart sped a little as she heard footsteps but calmed down. She would need to send them away.

She sat back in her spot in front of the fire as if nothing had happened. She saw more wolves emerge from the trees and her wolf was not happy knowing they were there for her mate. Hers.

Soyeon ignored it as she stared at the wolf who had yet to speak.

"We're looking for a girl. We lost her scent near here."

Soyeon kept a straight face and her heartbeat steady, "I haven't seen anyone or I would have alerted your alpha. No on is to come in or out of the border. I am aware."

The alpha nodded as he looked at her suspiciously, "alright. Have a good night."

Soyeon nodded as she watched him and the others disappear again. She waited until they were far enough away before putting the fire out and making sure she got rid of any sign she was there. Her shelter would hide her but she had to make sure if an enemy did come she could catch them by surprise. At least that was the original plan.

She went into her shelter and closed it behind her the scent making her dizzy. The omega had started to nest herself in the small bed. She writhed as she groaned. Soyeon could feel herself growing hot at the sight but tried to breathe through it. Only that made it worse. The omega took noticed of her presence as she turned to her. Mumbling something soyeon couldn't make out as she grew hazy. Stepping forward towards the omega.

Before she shook her head and tried to gain some clarity. She didn't even know this girl's name.

"Please," she whimpered as she sat up and reached out towards soyeon.

Soyeon fell to her knees as she lay her hands on the wolfs shoulders, "you don't know what you're saying right now and I don't want you to regret this in the morning."

The omega moved forward clutching on soyeons clothes only making the wolf in her scream at Soyeon for holding back.

"You're my mate,"she said, "I couldn't regret you."

Soueons wolf pleaded with her as the omega lay back, pulling soyeon with her. Spyeon moved over her as she fell in to a trance. The omegas eyes were shining and so clear soyeon felt like she could lose herself in them forever.

"I don't even know your name," she whispered as there noses touched and breaths mingled.

The omega smiled as her eyes closed the closer they got, "Yuqi, my name is yuqi."

"Yuqi," soyeon repeated, the omega moaned, "soyeon. I'm soyeon."

Yuqi whispered her name right before she pressed their lips together. Soyeon forgot about who Yuqi was and how many problems this would cause in the treaty. She forgot about everything else as all she could focus on was Yuqi.

Her wolf went crazy as she came to the surface. Soyeons eyes glowing as they parted. Yuqi smiled as she cupped soyeons cheek her eyes shining a bright violet taking soyeon by surprise. Her wolf only seemed to grow hungrier for the girl as she took over and kissed Yuqi deeply. The omegas scent grew heavier and soyeon didn't think as she moved down kissing the girls neck and further.

Her hands running up the length of Yuqis thighs, lifting the nightgown. Yuqi sat up as she connected her lips to soyeons again before taking her dress off leaving her in just her panties. Soyeon kissed her stomach and moved down. Teasing yuqi by focusing on her inner thighs. The omegas groans growing louder. Her underwear was soaked and soyeon released a low growl as she cupped yuqis heat.

Yuqi nearly screamed at the contact and placed a hand over her mouth as soyeons mouth finally came into contact with her over her underwear. The frustration from not having her exactly as she wants but also the relief of having her alpha touch her where she needs coming out. Yuqis hands made their way to soyeons hair. Her fingers lacing through the soft raven locks. Soyeon moaned into yuqi and the girl wanted to scream for her alpha to take her already.

Soyeon could see the frustration in Yuqi and chuckled as she moved back. She let her hands run up her legs and hooked her fingers around last piece of clothing ready to get rid of them. Until yuqis hands stopped her.

Soyeon looked over the flushed omega who was breathing deeply.

"Its unfair that I'm laid bare for you to see when your fully clothed."

Soyeon smirked at her before standing to remove her boots and jeans. She sat down and pulled her socks off making Yuqi giggle. Before climbing back to her. Soyein kissed the omegas lips again. Smiling when she could feel the omegas wondering hands sneaking under her shirt. Soyeon moved back again taking the clothing away and Yuqi smiled at her so softly it had Soyeon wondering how they had only know each other for 20 minutes when it felt like she'd know her forever.

"You're not in rut yet," she let out as she stared at soyeons lower regions making soyeon chuckle.

"No I'm not," she shook her head, "it won't stop me from getting you through your heat though."

Yuqi laughed as she let out another involuntary moan, "please, I need you now."

Soyeon took her bra off before she lay down on Yuqi the skin to skin contact making the omega moan even louder. Soyeon sighed at the contact as she felt the omegas wet heat rubbing against her.

"Oh baby," soyeon whispered as she lowered her hand touching the girl where she needed her all along, "you got yourself ready for me."

Yuqi released a gasp as her head flung back with her mouth open at the touch. Soyeon touched her gently. Running circles around her sensitive area as she moved her mouth down to latch onto the omegas nipple. A loud moan leaving her as arched her back and tried to feel more of Soyeon. Soyeon could feel the wolf under her growing impatient so she sucked harder as she let a finger circle the girls opening before sliding in.

Yuqi gasped at the foreign touch but moaned as soyeon moved an and out of her. Soyeon knew she needed more and when she felt ready she slipped another in. Fucking yuqi slowly but deeply as the omega whined and moaned under her. She kissed the girl again as she felt yuqi get closer to her release. The omega pulling her closer as she came. A scream ripping from lips as soyeon placed her hand over her mouth just in time to soften it.

She laughed as she moved her hand away. The omega breathing deeply as the first wave of her heat passed. Soyeon slowly removed her fingers as he omega whimpered and cleaned them with her tongue. The taste of the omega making her moan. The omegas cheeks were red as soyeon held her stare.

Soyeon smiled as she kissed the omega softly. Her mind clearing slightly as the pheromones lessened. Yuqi also seemed to come out of the haze a bit as she sat up and took the small shelter in. Her eyes grew as the realization of what happened settled with her.

"You're my mate," she said.

Soyeon nodded, "yes, it appears so."

"I was going to leave the border and never come back before I smelled your scent," yuqi said.

"I figured that was why you were so far out of your territory," soyeon replied, "we shouldn't have been able to sense each other but the mate bond must be stronger than the spell your father had casted around the border."

Yuqi moved forward as she kissed the alpha. Soyeons wolf was practically wagging his tail at that.

"You saved me," she said as she leaned her head against Soyeon's, "thank you."

"You're my mate. I've waited for you and i won't lose you to some stupid ritual that ignores basic wolf law."

"I have a few hours until my next phase," yuqi whispered.

Soyeon smiled as she grabbed the blankets she kept to the side, "lets get some rest. We have all night and no one will know you're here"

Yuqi lay down as soyeon hugged her from behind. For the first time in bothe their lives they felt content.

Yuqi doesn't know how long it had been but a heat in her core woke her up. She couldn't feel soyeon pressed against her anymore and whined as she reached out for her. She turned to see where she had gone. With her mind hazy from the heat and sleep she could see soyeon bent over in the corner of the tent.

"Whats wrong?" She asked trying to ignore the throbbing in her core that seemed even worse than earlier.

Soyeon turned to her and yuqi immediately knew why. Soyeons eyes glowed a bright red showing how powerful she was a true alpha.

Yuqi could smell it. Soyeons scent was stronger than before. More dominant.

"I triggered your rut," yuqi tried to get out ignoring the feeling lower down.

Soyeon nodded.

Yuqi knew why she was holding herself back and felt a pure attraction for the other wolf. Yuqi crawled over to soyeon. Moving her into a sitting position. Soyeon was still naked and when yuqi saw what lay between soyeons legs she could feel her excitement drip down her leg. Soyeon also must've noticed as her dick twitched.

Yuqi smiled as she moved to sit on soyeons lap there lower regions rubbing together making yuqi moan loudly.

"I want this," she said to soyeon who seemed intemt on holding herself back. Yuqi grinded down feeling soyeon rut up, "I want you to take me fully. Mark me. Make me yours."

Soyeons wolf grew stronger at those words as suddenly yuqi was on her back. Soyeons tongue shoved deeply down her throat as Yuqi moaned pulling soyeon into her and wanting more. Soyeon rubbed against her as yuqi felt soyeon teasing her.

Yuqi whined at the lack of what she wanted until finally she felt soyeon slowly push into her. Her walls stretching for her. She moaned as soyeon finally settled into her and giving her time to adjust. When yuqi felt she was ready she moved lightly before soyeon started thrusting in and out. Deep slow thrusts making yuqi feel like she was going to lose her mind.

"Faster," yuqi begged.

Soyeon smirked at the omega and left a bruising kiss on her neck as she complied. Yuqi grew louder and tried to muffle her moans into the pillow under her head as she felt herself getting closer to her release. She could see soyeon was too.

Yuqi bared her neck for soyeon showing she wanted it. She wanted soyeon to claim her.

Soyeon growled as she whispered in yuqis ear, "if I'm going to claim you I want you to do the same to me."

Yuqi grew surprised at the request knowing the alphas from her pack would never let this happen.

"Are you sure?" Yuqi asked as soyeons thrusts slowed.

Soyeon nodded, "its custom in my pack. I want them to know I belong to you."

Yuqi overwhelmed brought soyeon into a raising kiss as her release got nearer. Soyein must have felt it too as she nosed at the spot on yuqis neck while yuqi did the same. Their wolves coming to the surface as their fangs grew. As their sweet release overtook them they laid claim to each other. Soyeon releasing her knot and binding them together. Yuqi came again as it pressed against a certain bundle of nerves as she licked around the mark she made.

As they came down from the high, they stayed wrapped in each other. The new bond settling between them. This was it. Yuqi would never go back now, her father would disown her but she could care less. She felt content and happy. Something she hadn't felt for a long time.

Light started filtering through the shelter the lamp no longer the only light provided. Just how late was it? Soyeon nuzzled into yuqis neck in the spot right by fresh mark.

"The sun's coming up already," she whispered, "we need to leave before your father comes asking questions."

Yuqi nodded and let out a sigh, neither of them making an effort to move, "they already know I'm gone by now. I'm surprised he hasn't left the border yet to look for me."

"He won't, not until the spell goes down. He probably thinks you're just hiding really well."

"Won't he question why you left your post?" Yuqi asked

Soyeon shook her head as she sat up slightly to look at yuqi, "I'll link someone to take my place because I felt sick. He won't know any better."

Yuqi started feeling hot again and knew another wave was coming. Soyeon must've smelled it to as she kissed Yuqi deeply.

"We should leave now," yuqi moaned, "before-"

"I know," Soyeon said as she moved back.

Yuqi whined at the loss of contact

"Lets get out of here before your next wave."

my favorite fics that i wrote and why

So, first I'll explain. I'm gonna being reccing my own fics which I'm not super sure how to do cause I mostly just yeet shit on ao3 and let the fates decide, and I'm never sure what's like, too much? Like I see other people rec their own fics and I'm like (O O) how do i do that. Like idk why I have this resistance to like, telling people that I like my own fics? So today I said fuck that, everyone's gonna know now.

And I've just been doing not so hot recently for a number of reason and I figured like, I've been obsessing over so much, why don't I get to be excited about the good things? So anyway, these are my favorite fics that I've written, not just the ones that have done the best or whatever, just my personal favorites, so without further ado...

First up is sorry that i can't believe anybody really starts to fall in love with me , don't ask why the name is so long I just like the song lmao. This one's special to me cause it was my first KPTS fic. Is it the best? No. Does it have a super deep meaning? Nope. But it's cute and it's mine so I love it. Next!

the imperfect art of making it. Very self indulgent. I wrote this for the endorphins fic fest which gave me the motivation to write, but really I just loving transing my characters, and soft KimChay deserves lots of love.

Next up, do you look up to the sky? My first whumptober fic and the first one I wrote bc as soon as I looked at the prompts I was like "oh Kim's getting locked in the fucking basement for sure" and then he did! Success. Also KimChay are a pstd4ptsd couple, I won't be taking questions at this time.

This is getting longer than I thought it was gonna be but fuck it, I told myself I was doing this to remind myself why I like writing and that I do actually enjoy it so the longer the better tbh bc it means I really do love it. It's not a bad thing if all of my fics have a special place in my heart, right?

Ok last of the non dead dove ones is i should have kissed you. I don't exactly have a reason, I just think it's a good fic.

The next ones are dead dove cause I have two modes which are cute fluff and illegal <3

chay and kinn and chay. This thing is my baby. I love him with my whole heart. I wrote him in discord messages on my walk to and from classes. This is one fic that I would not be ashamed to say I've read several times over. This is the fic that I think of when people say "write the fics you want to read." This was also a spite fic which makes all of that even funnier lmao

Willow Dancin' On Air. This one's not dead dove but it is KimVegas so eh. But this is another fic I wrote purely for myself. I just wanted some fluffy lil somethin somethin and now every time I listen to this song I think of this fic

Ok last one, Why minors shouldn’t gamble. This one also started on discord and was written in my notes app at like. 9 am while I was still in bed lmao. Because that's where inspiration peaks. And it's hot idk. omegaverse will never not be be a special interest of mine, hopefully one day we can find out what happens when Kim joins the party, I'm genuinely curious.

OK! So. That was something. Tbh I feel a lot better lmao. My therapist would be so proud of me if I ever told her I write fanfiction pff. Normalize reading your own fics over and over. I'm saying that directly to myself cause I see all these like motivational things about writing and then I don't believe them, what's that about?? Doing this reminded me that I actually like the things I create, highly recommend. Now I'm gonna get myself a glass of water cause for the next maybe 12 hours I'm changing my life!! I'm doing self care!!! Woo hoo!!!!! Now to post this before I remember that other people can see it :) Ok bye ✌️

Werewolf and Vampire AU Masterpost (specifically for the LAL western chapter)

I can't believe this is a thing I'm writing because this is normally NOT my thing, but the brainworms are very very real, so a few things I'm gonna get out of the way right now:

•The tag I use for this is "bark bark flap flap", so if you wanna mute it cuz you're sick of seeing it, please feel free.

• The end goal of this for me is not shipping. If it happens to end up that way, that's fine (I am even warming up on the prospect as I write the characters more), but overall I'm just playing with character chemistry. I'm stating this up front because of the explicit sexual culture around werewolves and vampires online. I will not be making any sexual content for this AU (ESPECIALLY not anything omegaverse, I have very little tolerance for that malarkey). At most it may be gore.

I would request you not use my AU writings/character designs/story beats etc for sexually explicit material, but obviously I can't stop you. Just keep it away from me, thanks.

The rest is under the cut, from hereon, gods help us both.

The overall premise here is set in the Wild West chapter obviously, but I'm not opposed to other timelines and their monster AUs hopping in for fun. (I know there's a popular theory about Oboro being a fish yokai of some kind, that one rocked)

In this AU, Sundown is the werewolf and Mad Dog is the Vampire.

"But Aima-" I hear you cry. "Mad Dog should be the werewolf cuz he literally has Dog in his name." You are not incorrect. And if you wanna expand on this yourself you are welcome to! But personally I think that since Mad Dog is already a tumblr sexyman fruitcake, his vibes work better with vampires overall. And Sundown is a stoic lone wolf anyway lol

ANYWAYS, there's monsters all around the Wild West, and the frontier folks are out there just tryin' to make it.

Mad Dog in this setting is still a Bounty Hunter, but also goes after monsters. He's still clever and crafty, but one night, he bites off a little more than he can chew, and the target he's pursuing gets the better of him and is interrupted before he can totally drain him, when causes him to turn instead. (Will make a post later discussing how vampirism and lycanthropy spreads in this universe, but the long and short of it is vampirism is a parasite, lycanthropy is a virus)

Sundown is the werewolf, in fact that's where his name came from in this AU (The sun setting and shifting into a werewolf). The current lore is Sundown saved his town from a werewolf, but got infected himself, and took out his own town.

Sundown and Mad Dog have still known each other a long time, but neither either of them knew each other when they were human. There's a bit of hypocrisy to them both, since Sundown could find others affected by the virus and stick around with them in a pack, meanwhile Mad Dog is still a monster hunter when he's a monster himself.

Annie in this setting is also a monster hunter, in training under Dallas.

O. Dio is a kelpie (design is still a WIP), and the Crazy Bunch is a group of aquatic monsters that roams around taking over water sources for their territory, and their main beef with Success is (since they used to be a mining town), some of their water runoff was contaminated by mercury.

Currently I'm just running on the premise of them hanging out, and being In Situations, with no real chronological story beats, but it's implied that Sundown wants to find a cure for his lycantrhopy (because therapy doesn't exist yet I guess lol). Or just be killed (like the canon). Whichever comes first.

Sundown has 2 forms, human and werewolf. He only shifts on the night of the Full Moon, and in emergencies/life or death cases. When he shifts, he usually doesn't remember the events of the night, only brief flashes and strong emotions. He does however have a brewed draught concocted of various vile herbs etc. that he can take the day of his shift that helps him stay more cognizant. But he can't always get all the ingredients for it, so it's not consistent.

Mad Dog has 3 forms, the humanoid form is the default, when he's running low on energy/blood he takes the little bat form, and he can take the big bat form whenever he wants, but it uses up a lot of energy, so he tends to not use it unless he has to.

Here's some reference for them so far (x) (x) (as a side note, I differentiate the big bat form with 2 thumbs and the small bat form with one thumb.)

Also, as an aside, I don't know if I will continue to put this in the Live A Live tag cuz I don't wanna flood it with my silly AU when people are probably looking for canon stuff. I'll be open to feedback on that point though.

I see artists doing little showcasings of what they've accomplished creatively in the last year, decided that looks fun, and decided I'd do for myself an little inventory of what I've written in the last year as well, based on archive posts and what I can recall (I specify 'what I can recall', because I was not keeping track of when I did or did not update my main fanfic "Video Game Cruelty Potential" so...guestimates for that fic! I have 36 chapters, I can probably guess it was updated at least every other month) ~ So! For 2023: January: Did a fan-fanfic for my friend Lex called "The Other Rooms" where I explored off-scene implications of his cool-ass fic Room No.5 February: Created an alternate version of VGCP called "VGCP: Characters at their best" where I tried to explore some of the chars in the same setting being more well adjusted. I haven't gotten very far in it, but I am determined to get back to it this year! Also probably updated VGCP March: Did two short Kaito stories, an Oumota called "Playing with Phobias" where Kokichi messes with Kaito and a Saimota called "Luminary Hero of the Track Field" where Shuichi worries over Kaito's enthusiasm to sports while sick. April: Started what was MEANT to be a multi-chaptered Homestuck!V3 Kaito fic called "The Devotion of the Luminary of Skaia", but I haven't gone back yet to figure out what happens next yet. Thinking about it now, I think I was to make it a three chapter fic, but I just need to save some space to go back and outline it someday. VGCP? Maybe? May: A short Oumota piece called "Carnation: Please Handle Gently" that I got some awesome art commissioned for by the incredibly talented Ere. This short story inspired me so much that I'm actually basing a new original novel on the same concept~

June: I (believe) this was the month I finished Kaiden! An omegaverse original story I was writing and posting to Kindlevella. I am super proud of finishing that piece, and while I want to go back and create a more refined second draft before selling it as an Amazon book, I still LOVE this version as well. Very proud~ And VGCP!

July: Two Oumota short stories, "Touring Mortality" and "Execution Failed". Touring Mortality was especially fun to write, though I was amazed at the positive feedback Execution Failed got. It was very uplifting XD This was also the month I (re)started my original story "Pearls and Shackles". Also probably VGCP August: More Pearls and Shackles, more VGCP. September: Pearls and Shackles! Probably more VGCP! Can't remember! October: Can you guess? PEARLS AND SHACKLES! VIDEO GAME CRUELTY POTENTIAL!! November: This was a purely Pearls and Shackles month, and that was because I dedicated NANO (National Novel Writing Month) to finishing it. AND I DID! It super needs a second draft, its not ready to show off, but it EXISTS! So hell yeah!

December: A funny short V3 story called "Soulmate Goose of Enforcement!" I had a lot of fun collaborating with this one with Lex, and am hoping to do a chapter 2 with another great writer added to the mix too, Andromebaa. I also started the first two chapters of a new novel manuscript, a Hanahaki story about a pair of lesbians struggling with love in their own ways, but both trying their best! And, also, I updated "Video Game Cruelty Potential"

Did I overestimate how often I updated VGCP this year? Underestimate? I have no idea, that fic is almost 300,000 words long by this point, let's call an update every other month a generous average of how often I add to it. Other then VGCP, I did 8 Short Fanfics, finished a book, started and finished another book, and started a third book. And I'm not counting stories I had to write for my school year. Just ones I did out of the passion in my damn heart.

So, yeah! I'm pretty proud of this year, it was a good one. I hope anyone reading this had just as good a year! Writers, steal this idea, go looking back the year and brag about what you accomplished! You deserve it!

I'm adapting these to brief descriptions. If there are any ongoing files in my GDrive I'll include the title/first line, but those are temp then everything moves to Scrivener.

Here's what we have going on right now:

(In addition to the super fun work of writing my own bloody geometry textbook because the major publishers can't be bothered to do it decently/even vaguely in line with the current academic standards.)

Thrift Shop Vikings continues. It is cringe, it is dark, it is... hopefully actually decent. It has also grown from, "eh, think I can make the Nanowrimo draft into a decent short novel" to "yeah... this is going to be three genre length novels." I want to say I'm 80% of the way to beta-reader ready draft of Act 1, but I'm scared of jinxing myself. (That said, if anyone is interested in not quite Game of Thrones level dark fantasy, with yours truly treating crack [omegaverse] seriously, HMU. This is... not for everyone, and much darker than the fic I've written.)

Once Sindre had recovered enough to not feel that he needed to sleep until the end of days and the final battle, he began waking with the sun. Misery barely described... There's an idiom: as useless as nipples on a man

Where the Elfroot Grows is not dead. It is just percolating. In fact, recently Jeanne has been very loud about being the POV character for the arrival back at Skyhold. Also, the fish out of water appeal of forcing Rhys though Halamshiral is just too damn much. Also, I feel entirely empowered to make up my own canon now.

On that note, I'm not really filing the serial numbers off WTEG per se, because I think I've backed far enough up to basic fantasy tropes. Or maybe I'm filing the serial numbers off, IDK and IDC. Either way, I'm at the world-building, occasional scene writing, creating lore, boning up on history and anarchist theory stage of taking the elements I particularly like and running with them, while paying more attention to consistent characterization and general coherence in terms of theory and theology. Currently has more of a steampunk vibe, as I can't quite pull off the level of 'sweeping social change more than mage rebellion' with a thoroughly medieval world-build. I would get into my Xnity, but to the left, meanderings here, but it would turn into a thesis. Anyway, both this and Thrift Shop Vikings are engaged with the idea that anyone who believes god is on their side is as dangerous as hell, just in very different directions.

And @hollyand-writes I really do have enough of an outline for Gatsby meets Kirkwall to get somewhere with it. Just maybe not until the school year is over. Every time I drive past the road named for the local moonshiners I'm reminded/start thinking on it.

i write semi lit to lit, 3rd person, and tend to write multi para replies or longer when i have the inspiration. however! please write only as much/as little as you have muse for! i will always love quality over quantity. let's write for fun, not to stress each other out. 💕 i do work full time during the week and so please understand that i may not always reply immediately.

i’m very casual/informal OOC, and i loove worldbuilding and trading headcanons. i’m the kind of partner who loves talking about our ships and making inspiration boards, playlists, sending posts that remind me of them, etc. i like being on some level of friendship with my writing partners because i write better when i feel like i’m writing with a friend!! of course i’ll always match your energy if you prefer to be more chill, but if that would be a dealbreaker for you, i might not be the right partner for you!

i’m currently only writing AU plots, but i’m open to really anything. some of my favorite AUs and tropes to write are: enemies to lovers, high fantasy, legal age gaps, secret identities, arranged relationships, pretend relationships, superpowered heroes/villains/sidekicks, supernatural creatures, celebrities, omegaverse, and others too long to list. -0- i love exploring darker themes too but i’d prefer talking about ideas privately so we know each other’s triggers/limits first!

regarding NSFW: i’m comfortable writing NSFW and kink if that's where the plot goes, but they’re definitely not required. i have a sub lean, but on that note, i hate labels and i don’t believe that has to be an absolute defining factor of any of our plot roles or whoever’s on top/bottom and so on, so if we can both be chill about that, i will love you down.

I created my blog like...a year after I started posting to Ao3, so I didn't really have any intention of creating masterlists or different characters or stories or anything. I just thought it was fun to finally talk to people who had the same interests as me and were interested in reading things I would write. I had no idea how to "properly" Tumblr, haha, but I had fun and just went with it.

Is there any story you wish had gone a little differently / aspects of characters you wish you could change looking back at it?

If I had the time to waste, I would 100% rewrite like it's the only thing you'll ever do from start to finish. It was my first jump into omegaverse and I kind of rushed to finish it. I hate the way I wrote it with it jumping between time/tense. I love that story, but I just wish I would have done so many things differently.

(i lowkey think everything i wrote until like...a year ago to be super cringey, but...i'm harsh on myself lol)

What is your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Oh gosh, that's hard. I read back things I write and I can't believe I'm the one who did it. 😅 I'm really proud of you won't want for nothin', boy, but for you i kinda want to, and grassroots. I'm really proud of the Kinktober fics I posted this last time around too.

I have a few stories in my WIP folder that feel special and that I'm drawn to. I really love the idea of a Dom/Sub AU. I have part of one written in that universe. I'd like to write darker things I think, things that aren't really in the Daddy Universe, haha.

Which characters are you most proud of creating?

Definitely a tie between Daddy Steve and Baby Bucky and Senator and Intern.

Alphas

The posts you've all been waiting for! Now I'm going to get started on describing the secondary genders. Since I want these to be able to be used as reference by themselves, I'll be repeating information from earlier posts. So, this post will be all about alphas, their anatomies and ruts.

As I've said before, secondary gender can be identified at the same time as primary gender. All alphas have penises and juvenile knots before puberty. Male alphas have the expected genitalia, but female alphas are different. Female alphas still have a vagina, although the womb is vestigial since they have internal testicles instead of ovaries. Because of this, they can't get pregnant. A female alpha's penis is where the clit would normally be.

During a rut, I think testosterone would increase in alphas. Because of this they'd have a higher libido, higher energy and stamina and even increases their memory. They also get more possessive, territorial, short tempered, and their scent gets stronger. Of course, the intensity would depend on the person. If they don't have someone to spend their rut with, alphas can use scent patches, placed over scent glands to suppress their scent, and cups if they get sudden and/or persistent erections.

Before someone presents, they have what's known as a kit's scent. They don't smell like much besides their family. It's usually easy to tell when an alpha is about to have their first rut and present. They're more irritable, they'll become possessive of any presented omegas they're close to, and their scent will steadily get stronger in the days before. An alpha's rut isn't considered started until they have their first knot and then they're allowed to call out of school until it passes.

People scents aren't usually settled and personal until after puberty. It switches rapidly until then and some unfortunate people are even occasionally repulsed temporarily by their own scents. This can be worsened during a rut, causing an alpha to be paranoid and unable to relax because they subconsciously think there's a stranger in their safe space. Alphas don't nest on their own, but they can still become very protective of the space they've decided is theirs. If an alpha is in too much distress before their rut it can cause different mental and physical issues.

All of these, of course, would be up to the author. It could be physical, as if they have a really bad flu, or more mental, like sudden depression or extreme paranoia. This could be a good chance for angst or hurt/comfort and could be a way to explore toxic masculinity in the world of a/b/o. One thing I think a/b/o fics lack is filtering our real world issues through the lens of omegaverse. The few times it is explored, it's usually focused around omegas and sexism.

Alphas having a Voice, as some fics call it, would boil down to instincts. I don't think it would be as strong as most fics write it to be, but I do think it could exist in some sense. It could depend entirely on the two people interacting. Maybe some alphas have stronger Voices while some omegas and betas would be better at resisting or ignoring it. However it would be written, I don't think the complete forced submission of those it's used on is very realistic.

Speaking of instincts, I don't think an alphas would necessarily lean towards domination as a given. I think it would more naturally lean towards protection and providing for their partner and family. Of course, society could teach them differently and it would depend on the person, as most things in life do. This could be another good way to explore toxic masculinity. You could take an alpha who believes all the propaganda about domination and being the leader and teach them to be more in touch with their true instincts.

Scent glands are another thing I have problems with. I'm not an expert in biology and anatomy, so I honestly have no idea if these are realistic or not. I do think bond marks are completely unrealistic, however. It would take a lot for someone to present their world as completely unmagical and still convince me that biting someone would make you able to feel their emotions. Bond marks aside, scent glands could work and I'd imagine alphas would have them in the normal spots(neck, wrists, thighs), mostly because I don't know anywhere that would be more realistic.

Definitely don't feel obligated to answer this, but I've been reading your Peaky fic for--Jesus, it must be nearly three years now--and there is literally nothing in your repertoire that feels OOC or excessive. And the careful deliberation of everything you have the characters do or say fascinates me so much that I was wondering, how do you edit your fics? Is there a process or things that you look for when you write? I'm just honestly amazed by the quality, all the time.

This means a lot to me, thank you!! I can't believe I started posting PB fic in 2019. Seems like a hundred years ago, but also yesterday.

One of my great fears in writing the first fic I posted for this fandom (Into the earth I trampled it down) was that I'd gone over the top, that it was too much or excessive or OOC. And in the middle of writing a part I was particularly worried about (namely, the opium overdose), I realized that the season I was writing about in canon featured Tommy hallucinating his dead wife as a duchess strangled him during sex. Like... it'd be a challenge to top that in the "too much" department.

After that I relaxed a bit.

If I have a process it's both similar and different every time.

Generally I have no clue what's going to happen in a fic when I start writing. Had no idea Not the vacant wilderness vying was going to be about a miscarriage. I'd decided the miscarriage was backstory, but then the characters had other ideas by chapter 2. When I started Not to begin with it wasn't going to be a series or a whole involved AU, it was just supposed to be my attempt at writing PWP. Not even an omegaverse one! That just happened! Yeah. Well. 100,000+ words and several years later... And This Bed of Shattered Bone just came out from the beginning like it reads, Alfie waking to find Tommy in his sitting room.

Once I start writing a story it begins revealing itself. I like to compare it to driving a car down a very dark road at night, so you can only see what the headlights pick up. Sometimes you know approximately where you want to end up on your journey. Eventually you get there, you just aren't sure what you're going to see on the way. Other times you think you know where you're going and you end up detoured or some completely unknown place.

After I start to see more of the road, sometimes I will plan or roughly outline a bit. Not very coherently or in much detail, just notes to myself about what I think could happen or bits I want to include. Sometimes this suggests research I want to do to flesh out some things. Usually I'm doing a lot of ad hoc research as things come up that I want to get as accurately as possible for someone with little knowledge of the historical period and only Google to go on. Everything from "did they have electric fans in the 1920s" to "tell me everything about Oswald Mosley."

Research contributes to one process I have for when I get stuck-- often I'll get to the point where I know what I want the next chapter to be about, or roughly what's supposed to happen, but I don't know how to start it. I call it the 'hook' -- I have a hard time starting to write a chapter until I get snagged on a specific detail or find a handhold, like climbing a wall. Once I find that little spot to grab onto, usually it starts to flow. When I'm coming up empty and lacking a hook into the chapter, often doing research helps -- usually researching the setting. This aids with imagery, grounding it somewhere real and specific even if that detail isn't necessary. Most of the time it's not that I'm such a stickler for accurate historical detail (there are authors who are much better at this than I am!) it's that research gives my brain something to work with. A lump of modeling clay it can play with.

For instance, the chapter in the bar of the Ritz in Nor the ricochet in the cave, or the description of the skating rink where the boxing match was held in Not a ruse. In the case of the former, I didn't know what was going to happen after Tommy stormed out of his hotel room, so I thought oh, he goes to the hotel bar. I was still stuck, so I wondered what the bar looked like. I couldn't find a description from the 1920s, so I cheated and went with the (conveniently) art deco modern renovation in the current-day Ritz. In the case of the latter, I found information on real boxing matches at the real location in Birmingham, and a photo of what it looked like at the time. I also found a digitized article from a newspaper that described a fight between the same boxers basically blow-by-blow, and used that in the fic, though I took a lot of liberties.

A great many of Alfie's rambling speeches incorporate stuff I found while researching. It's not really like canon Alfie, to be honest, but has become my version of him.

So my basic process is a mixture of winging it, then once I have a better idea what the story wants to be about, researching and planning a bit. I don't plan or outline extensively, because if I do that, my brain decides the story has been told and gets bored and won't actually write it. My brain needs the mystery.

Sometimes I have an idea where I'd like the fic to end up, but usually it's more like... bookends. The frame for Into the earth was "Grace's death to the start of episode 3.03." The frame for This Bed of Shattered Bone was "Tommy shows up at Margate after having escaped from Bedlam to Tommy ready to rejoin the world." In both cases I had no idea what was going to happen between the bookends.

One thing I'd like to get better at is editing, because I don't do alot of formal editing or drafting. Part of this is because I tend to post as I write, so I never have a complete first draft that I then go back and revise. I don't have the patience for it, apparently. I think my writing would benefit from that so someday I'll give it a try. I'm an edit-as-I go person, so most of the time I write and rewrite as I'm writing, then get a draft of a chapter, and either have it beta read or do my own pass at it. Usually there aren't a lot of major revisions. Once in a while I decide to go back and start a chapter differently but usually that's while I'm in the middle of writing, not after I have a draft. Sometimes I write several chapters in a row before I start posting them, mostly if I'm not sure whether something needs to change -- for example, right now I have chapters 5-6 and half of chapter 7 written in my current WIP, but haven't posted chapter 5 because I wanted to get to a point where I was sure the later chapters wouldn't require additions or edits to chapter 5.

The beginning of Not a ruse was originally a bit from Tommy's POV I haven't posted yet, then it jumped to Alfie getting back from Margate and hearing from Irene. I didn't like how it flowed and decided I wanted to structure the story more like a reveal, where Alfie is trying to solve this mystery but not sure he really wants to know. But I wasn't sure how to anchor it in any kind of setting, to get beyond a bunch of exposition, until I remembered I'd referenced an upcoming boxing match in the previous story in the series. So that's where the research came in, and violà, I had a way to get Tommy and Alfie together and something for them to do while the real story unfolded.

What do I look for when I write? I'm not totally sure I know what you're asking, but here's an attempt to answer. I like putting characters into terrible situations and then seeing what happens. I like to find out what's happening as it happens. Often this takes the form of an outside POV to the main action -- so Polly or Alfie observing Tommy's shenanigans. They're not just observing, of course; that would be boring. But I do find it easier to write about Tommy from another POV. Tommy's POV isn't harder as far as understanding his internality, so much as it is getting his internal voice to sound right to me and feel in character while still revealing anything of use to the reader. Truly in character Tommy voice would be extremely curtailed compared to how I write him.

Because my sense of Tommy is that he doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about things in words, mulling them over, considering how he feels about them or how other people feel about them. All stuff a reader likes to dig their teeth into. Tommy seems to me like someone who acts on what for a lack of a better word I guess I'll call instinct and then gets frustrated if he has to slow down and actually articulate it to another person. It's not that he doesn't strategize and have plans or take in information about what's happening, etc, it's that all of this stuff takes place on this level that isn't particularly verbal. It's all in his head. He might love someone or care about them deeply or have an extensive strategy for how to deal with something, but he's not going to think about it to himself in words.

So I try to get at all of that through actions, through what he doesn't say, etc. Where with Alfie, I feel freer to write him thinking wordy thoughts and having more overt feelings in his own head.

Anyway, I realize this has become incredibly rambling. I've been writing fic for 30 years, and I guess it shows. I'm pretty happy with my writing by now. Though it never quite matches what I envision creating, often that's balanced by shit I'd never have thought of just... coming out and writing itself. That's the fun of it, when the characters and story take over.

I loved chapter two SO MUCH. This is already shaping up to be so so good

It felt so unsteady? I love the way you wrote them facing each other at the house. Just the quick back and forth, it was like a literary dutch angle. The way Steve immediately melted into "are we soulmates?" Just the desperation and loneliness he feels, needing that connection so badly.

I saw you decided against killing Neil in this AU too. Holding out hope for the next one.

OKAY haha OKAY I literally laughed out loud at your comment about Neil. "holding out hope for the next one" please I am WHEEZING.

I just really strongly believe that pre-season three Steve wasn't up for murder. Post Season 3? Absolutely, and I have an AU planned where he 100% straight up murders Neil after Starcourt.

But Pre Season three was still... soft. still tender. Heart broken after Nancy and spinning his wheels lost after losing his King Status and learning all the UD stuff is way more scary and way more permanent than he ever thought.

I DO have an Alpha/Alpha BillySteve fic planned where Alpha!Steve is a little more... "Spree" Joe Keery? And that one is pre season three and Neil dies in a absolutely gnarly way but only because that particular version is Steve is very different from canon.

Anyway.

I'm so glad you liked the fight scene! The constant mirroring/reflecting/echoing the boys do is hard to write cos it's definitely chaotic and tense and out of control but it's also really distinctly affecting everything about every moment so I'm trying to write it... clear? While also trying to make sure it sort of sweeps us away in their out of control vibes.

OH but the way Steve melts into Billy and Billy can't help reacting just for a few seconds? So good. My favorite trope in soulmate and/or Omegaverse AU's is that moment when a bonded couple touches and everything just lights up like fireworks and whatever else is happening just fades away. Its absolutely beautiful.

Hello! Hope your doing well. I do have a silly question to ask as an author and I mean no disrespect whatsoever with it.

One of my favorite fanfics is misty dream by corviids. If you read the story then you know that Luke has the ability to get pregnant but it’s not an a/b/o story.

Once again nothing wrong with that. But, while I believe to be wrong I saw a comment asking how it was possible for Luke to be pregnant or in getting pregnant. Corviids themselves put a note in the newest chapter explaining that but since your writing a story on abo I decided to come to you.

Is it really wrong to go that way when writing your OWN story. I mean, does it really have to be an abo story for your characters to have the ability to get pregnant? Is it like breaking some sort of unspoken rule where if you were to break it you’re offending someone else?

Please once more I don’t mean any disrespect with this. I’m genuinely curious as to know why this is some sort of issue. And not speaking of misty dream but I’ve read countless of other stories where this is an actual issue but specifically when it comes to male pregnancy and the story is not abo.

Hi anon! I don’t find this question rude and hope I can answer in a way that's clear I’m expressing my own thoughts and opinions, which you seem to be asking for, and that I'm not trying to tell anyone else what to do.

First and foremost, no, I don't think it's wrong to do *anything* in a story actually, because in the end it's fiction. If you properly tag things, people have no legit reason to complain about what they decided to click on and read. You don't have to justify anything beyond that. 'Don't Like Don't Read' is the gospel of ao3, I will always hold to it and encourage others to do the same.

Now, your further questions center around a curiosity as to why some people don't like unexplained mpreg. I know there's plenty who can't stand mpreg point blank, and always filter out that tag (which is why I always tag it even if it's only mentioned in my fics), and then some who only like it when explained as part of an a/b/o verse.

It certainly is a thought experiment as to why. Personally? I think the reason some people don't enjoy unexplained mpreg as much is because, while it is wish-fulfillment for some, to others it can sometimes feel like putting a 'heteronormative bandaid' so to speak on a queer ship--as it's very different even from a trans person getting pregnant, at least in my opinion. That can really knock me out of the story (though it may be a healing fantasy for others, i'm sure). I'm not offended--I just don't enjoy it usually.

(Anyone who feels truly offended by such a thing when they could be offended by like ANY of the real world problems we have should rethink their priorities 😂)

On the other hand, omegaverse can sometimes feel more in touch with the queer experience. Usually there is some minority and/or stigma still with being omega male or alpha female, for instance. It often involves other queer experiences too--presenting suddenly and often traumatically as alpha/omega can resonate with those who experienced body dysmorphia during puberty, and dealing with rigid societal relationship/gender roles is relatable to everyone but definitely those who are gay and/or trans.

I think heats/ruts also can resonate somewhat as a queer fantasy; both are like a cathartic release of the character's pent up sexual desire and feelings that they haven't allowed themselves to indulge in or society has barred them from, and then BOOM there is (often) no choice anymore. Being forced to accept one's sexual desire during heat/rut is not dissimilar to the tipping point many queer people have in their journey of self-acceptance, and so is yet another detail that makes the whole strange omega-canon resonate with queerness still.

(Sorry, you asked the a/b/o author this question, so you get to hear me wax poetic about omegaverse for a second 😂)

Personally, even just a small magical spell/curse/biological anomaly explanation can make mpreg enjoyable for me, but I'm not everybody. Plenty of (queer or not) people don't like mpreg at all, fantastically explained or not, and it's not your job to please everyone. There's nothing offensive about making any fictional character pregnant without explanation! It may not be everyone's cup of tea--but that doesn't mean you have to change your story. Especially among lucemond shippers, I doubt it will stop you from getting readership. And if someone jumps into your comments telling you how to write, tell them where to stick it!

Write what you want, block without prejudice, and take care of yourself anon <3

Thank you so much for writing! I always want more fic for these fandoms, so while I have a lot of prompts for some of them, if you already have a different idea, I'm excited to read it!

Treats are very welcome, including art, unconventional formats, and crossovers! A (non-exhaustive) list of potential crossover fandoms is at the bottom of the letter.

General likes: missing scenes, alternate POVs of canon scenes, outsider POV, canon divergence, epistolary & in-universe documents, angst, hurt/comfort, recovery (interpret broadly: trauma, injury, relationships...), bittersweet endings, humor, plausible crack (i.e. convince me it could actually happen), crossovers, worldbuilding, hypercompetent disaster characters, steady & stubborn characters

I love this family and all their messy but loving relationships, but I'm also happy for non-requested characters to have a major role if that's where the story takes you. Some prompts:

An outsider POV of the family once Goewin & Medraut decide to stay in Aksum. What does the Aksumite court think? Maybe someone who knew Medraut fairly well when he was ambassador? He's not an outsider, but how does Kidane feel about his household being shaken up?

In the same vein as above but focusing on fewer characters - how does Goewin adjust to her new position? When/how does she start working more closely with Wazeb? When does Medraut start staying at the monastery and going out with the elephant hunters? How do Turunesh and Telemakos deal with Medraut coming back to them and then sorta leaving again? Medraut & Telemakos hunting trip? How/when did Medraut get his staff of Asclepius tattoo?

More generally, anything set in the time between A Coalition of Lions and The Sunbird.

Post-canon fic! Let everyone be together and happy, but also maybe let them process some trauma.

Pre-canon fic! Goewin & Medraut's relationship before he leaves for Aksum the first time? Turunesh & Kidane's travels? There's a mention in Winter Prince of Medraut visiting Iona - tell me about that?

The Lymond Chronicles: Francis Crawford of Lymond & Sevigny

I got decision paralysis trying to choose from the nominated characters, so I ended up going with just Lymond himself - that said, other characters are more than welcome to feature as main characters!

Canon-specific DNWs: romantic Christian/Lymond, modern interpretations of gender or sexuality (I am interested in explorations of this, but within the historical context), non-requested AUs that change the setting

Some prompts:

If you want to focus on Lymond himself, I'd love to get inside his head at any point during the series (wouldn't we all?) On the flip side, I always love an outsider POV - maybe from the French or Russian courts?

Lymond & the concept of friendship: he's terrified of his friends being hurt because of him and tries to push them away to prevent it, but at the same time there are a handful of people he relies on to stay his friends no matter what; he even says so (the Somervilles, Jerott). Do something with this?

I think it would be interesting to put Lymond and his hypercompetence into a sci-fi or fantasy AU.

If you're bringing other characters in, here are some relationships I'd be especially interested in:

Lymond & Molly: she doesn't appear after GoK, but I can't believe they never saw each other again. Maybe she was involved with some of the shenanigans we see at the beginning of The Disorderly Knights?

Francis & Sybilla: they're so important to each other but also they hurt each other so much. I'm especially interested in their relationship pre- or post-canon.

Lymond & Archie: Had they met before Queen's Play? Did they know of each other through Mat?

Francis, Philippa, Kate, Adam, Kuzum: they're all family post-canon (presumably); what does that look like? Lymond's relationship with Kuzum is obviously complicated by The Trauma and I don't want that to be ignored, but I'd like this one to have a happy/hopeful ending.

Lymond & Marthe: Lymond POV of Marthe - maybe their first meeting, or in Stamboul? Alternatively, AU where Sybilla does get to bring Marthe home with her and they grow up together.

Francis & Christian: I feel like their conversations sometimes reference their earlier friendship, but the reader is left in the dark about the specifics. I'd like to see their friendship as kids/young teens. I can imagine them bonding over music & poetry (Christian mentions Sang School). Or an AU where Christian lives and Lymond has both her and Margaret Erskine watching over him during Queen's Play.

Lymond & Danny: Danny POV is always a delight, but I'd also love to see Lymond's opinion of Danny. Would the Voevoda really not notice if Danny placed himself nude on the floor?

Lymond & Chancellor: I'm desperate for a Chancellor lives AU where Francis & Philippa sponsor his expeditions and he stays with them when he's home. Make this poly if you want, but friendship is also great!

The Singing Hills Cycle: worldbuilding, Almost Brilliant - one or more of the chosen characters

I'm fascinated by the lore we got about neixins in Mammoths at the Gates, and I'd love to know more about them - neixin culture/social structure, their relationships with the monks, what it's like having perfect memory of all the stories they hear and how that affects their view of the world.

I'm also up for fic about almost any aspect of worldbuilding - a non-exhaustive list: more about the monastery, the monks' travels, the process of becoming a monk, new stories collected by the monks & neixins, more about the mammoth riders...

Tir Tanagiri - worldbuilding

I love this twist on Arthurian stories (and the Tain), and I especially love Sulien - but I chose worldbuilding because it's what I most wanted to know more about. We find out that Tir Tanagiri is essentially a parallel universe from ours and...that's it. Tell me more! Some prompts:

More about the parallel universe thing - I'd like to see this from the perspective of a character who knows a lot about it, maybe in the form of instruction or storytelling/myth

Cultural attitudes around gender and sexuality: obviously it's relatively common for women to be soldiers and Sulien reads as aro/ace, though that terminology isn't used in-world. We mostly see this from Sulien's perspective, but what does society at large think?

More about the religions, new and old - maybe in the form of stories/myths? More about Coventina?

Chapters in The King's Peace and The King's Name are introduced with snippets of poetry - if you're poetically inclined, maybe a new poem or an expansion of one of the canon ones?
