lately, i've seen more people in the online autistic community acknowledging the struggles of people with higher support needs, which is of course an important development. but for some, that seems to come with the implicit assumption that low needs autistics "have it easy" or experience no stigma at all, which is just wrong??? people with low support needs are still disabled by their autism and still face discrimination because of it. sure, they are impaired to a lesser degree than those with higher support needs, but that doesn't mean you can just erase their struggles, y'know?

#sometimes i see posts that are like 'its unfair to say that autistic people have it easy and arent really disabled...' and go yes! exactly! #but then they'll continue like '...because not all autistic people have low support needs' #and i'm like. okay nevermind you dont understand this at all #i have comparatively mild autism (was diagnosed with aspergers back when that was still a thing) #and my autism has still significantly impacted and impaired my life #i think its important to acknowledge the huge range of experiences in the autistic community #and that many others have struggled much more than me #but that doesnt mean its all easy breezy for me and other lsn autistics yknow? #(i guess i would technically be considered medium support needs or something but that's because of my chronic illness not my autism) #i wish people would just. like. listen to other peoples experiences before just assuming that they know everything about their lives #ofc a huge part of this is also some lsn autistics distancing themselves from hsn people and pretending that they're not actually disabled #but not every lsn autistic is like that. and even the ones that are are usually (consciously or unconsciously) downplaying their symptoms #autism #actually autistic #actuallyautistic #this isn't really about the post i just reblogged btw it just reminded me of it #because some of the notes on it went in that direction

I feel like if Dipper were ever reincarnated as a demon, he wouldn't fit in super well with the others. Yes, he's been raised to vie for power and step on everyone in his way using whatever means is necessary - it's the same toxic bizz as when he was a human, appealing to gender norms. He's tougher, scarier, more powerful (than ordinary humans, that is), but when it comes to asserting control - being Evil - he doesn't have it in him. Given enough time, I think he'd grow pretty vocal about leaving living things alone. NOT torturing organisms for the hell of it, or stealing people's souls, or conquering planets. Sure, he's a demon. That's no excuse to be a MONSTER.

It's a VERY unpopular opinion amongst neighboring demons, and rumor spreads fast about the Goody Two-Shoed Activist imp raining on everyone's blood-splattered parade, so much so that it makes it to Bill, who's immediately intrigued. Call it intuition, but only one soul's capable of overriding goddamn demon nature for some preachy bullshit about "Doing Good." Lucky for him, demons occupy the same plane of existence, so all it really takes to verify the guy is a snap of his fingers, and POOF! He's floating right next to him. Sure enough, Dipper's fashioned himself a new and improved demonic form, and it is lovely!

No one likes Dipper's kumbaya "Can't We All Just Get Along" ideology, but Bill's almost instantly smitten with the guy, whoever he is, so he's gotta be at least somewhat powerful. Demons take notice when the all-powerful Bill Cipher starts lending his time (and magic?) to some low-leveler like Dipper. Is he being blackmailed? Are they working together? No. Not possible. Bill doesn't "work" with anyone, save for whatever human catches his eye every few decades. Doesn't look to be doing him any benefit, either. The opposite, even. Lending power to a saint like Dipper only makes it harder to cause chaos, after all. Why would he actively go against his OWN best interest to cater some imp's? It's almost like he's. He's.

A henchmen.

(Bill's also 30% more affectionate the first month they reunite, because he still can't believe that his adorable little human husband came back as the same SPECIES as him! He'd never complain over having a sweet human to squeeze, but one with teeth and claws and cute pointy ears doesn't hurt).

I've been reading your crits of the show, some I agree with some I don't. But anyways we're past the halfway point of the show, would you say that there's more things you like in it or more you don't?

well, with every episode my expectations get lower and lower for the following one when I should be getting more excited so I think that best summarizes my experience so far

I by no means think the show is bad. It's enjoyable. Just that as adaptation its fine? I simply don't think its an amazing book-to-screen adaptation so far... which given how the creators talked about it, it should be. Sure it's faithful in terms of plot. But there's a lot more to making a screen adaptation good outside of it hitting the same plot points of the book.

If you've gone through my crit tag of the show, you know what I dislike about it so I won't iterate all of that here. Instead, to speak to what I do like about the show: The actors are amazing, and elevates the show to a level that it wouldn't be at if it weren't for them; there's a great emphasis on the relationships between the characters, and even if the show has altered the emotional dynamics in a way I don't like, the complexity of their relationships are still there; and I like how present the anger and derision towards the gods is throughout the show.

#I mean I guess in short: I'm disliking it more so than liking #again it doesn't mean the show is bad #it just doesn't feel like the amazing cool super faithful adaptation I was promised #it doesn't have the energy of pjo to me #and given the budget and resources it was given... In my opinion, the ill received “a guy like me” line just shows so clearly the very big gap between how the GP views Harry (a cis, white, rich and of course straight man, a sex symbol, gets everything he wants) versus how Harry sees himself (a guy from a small town, who got very lucky, from a castingshow, most definitely not straight, fights very hard every day to be who he is)

this is an insanely dumb kind of thing to ask but um. Andrea (shaggy tormented girl) gets very upset at her friend’s specific kind of distortion of the truth. the (perceived) retroactive change of intention to absolve herself of being mean. or whatever. yeah um. is that a thing? is that a thing that people get? what is that associated with? cause i rarely get like that but i hate when i do because it will always be perceived as an overreaction (and a lot of the time it will be).

Being upset with someone for essentially being mean and then being dishonest about being mean, if that is what you are asking. It could be a misunderstanding sometimes, or it could be calculated. It's just one of those things I guess. If calculated, it is really upsetting to have someone... basically try to trick you out of confronting them with a problem. I don't think that being sensitive to it is necessarily "associated with" anything in particular because there are a lot of reasons why you could be sensitive. It depends on you.

Everyone on earth struggles with balancing self-respect and grace and honoring their perceptions and also leaving room 4 the ambiguity and complexity of other people's intentions and style of interacting with others. Emotional reactions like getting upset is sort of like... Ur fire alarm goes off. So U know there is a problem, but that indicator can't tell you how to diagnose the problem (burning food on stove? massive conflagration in living room? low battery?) or the process of responding 2 it, you have to use your creative mind to make a plan and your rational mind to evaluate and adjust. If U let the sound of the fire alarm make U crazy then U just end up smashing fire alarm and throwing it outside and then U lose ur security deposit and maybe dying in a fire... So I guess what I'm saying is this is a natural faculty of your mind but if it causes you problems it just requires some creative thought. Conflicts with people are opportunity to deepen the connection with the person and conflicts with ourselves are opportunities to learn self mastery and become more powerful in the world so the obstacle is very much the path. i've watched a lot of good films lately in an attempt to catch up with a bunch of movies that have come out recently, but talk to me was the best movie i've seen in a LONG time

#i put off watching it for so long because i was sure it was overrated + i'm generally not a fan of possession movies #(because so many of them try to be the exorcist and they will never be the exorcist. you know how it is) #but holy shit. genuinely a brilliant movie in every aspect of filmmaking + completely aligned with my personal taste #+ exactly what i look for thematically in possession and/or ghost movies #+ the absolute perfect balance between psychological and gory #and like i said SUCH a good cold opening #tbh i think it's a useful trick to know how to get your audience to buy into a supernatural premise from the very first scene #i think that takes some VERY effective + skillful writing and directing #and as someone who again typically does NOT like possession movies i usually end the movie NEVER buying into the story #not because i'm a 'skeptic' or whatever just because the writing doesn't do the work #but SCENE ONE of this movie i was so in it #anyway. movee of all time to me #also from the trailers etc i had thought that that fluffy yellow sweatshirt mia wears at the beginning of the movie was a bathrobe lmao #my first impression of what this movie was gonna be like was NOT correct #anyway 'recently' means in the past 2 years i guess? #actually maybe this post was a lie because i LOVED nope which was also just an absolute cinematic masterpiece #anytime i watch a jordan peele movie it's just like. this man is so far beyond any other filmmaker out there right now #it's almost unfair to watch lol like an olympic gold medalist running laps around a middle school track team #anyway ummm. yeah talk to me was good though
