In my opinion, the mangaka of Hajime Isayama created this manga to show people the horrors and cruelty of war and human selfishness. Attack on Titan's message is a criticism against war and violence, that's my interpretation of this manga.

Hi. I agree. This is my interpretation as well.

I’ll discuss this from a writer perspective more than an audience/viewer perspective.

I haven’t seen anything in the anime so far that can be pro-war. Everything is anti-war & criticism of human cruelty. you see, the beauty of good story-telling is realizing that those who commit horrible deeds are human, without justifying the horrible deed itself. Meaning, their actions from their perspective is either the correct one or the only one or the last one to do (there is huge difference between the three types). Their perspective is most probably not the best or not right one when viewed from the viewer/audience/reader. But it is the perspective of this character/s. They lack the holistic perspective of the audience & it must create division among audiences because it mimics real life situations in war time when different sections see things differently. (heck! even now with Corona we are very divided among ourselves) Also, their perspective MUST clash with the perspective of the other side in the story (other characters) otherwise... there is NO story/ No war.

All characters are highly traumatized & their judgement is affected by past horrors. This is NOT an excuse for their actions, but it creates brilliant story.

Also the story tackles the “oppressed becoming oppressive” or “the victim committing sth similar to what is done to them if not more horrible”. There is a reason this theme is rarely attempted in fiction & unless you are a well-respected director/writer with oscars in your position, you’ll be chewed & fail if you try it. My professor has always discouraged me from attempting such theme ..” you are too inexperienced for this” , “ try sth that can sell & get your name out there first”, “ play into fan’s/ppl’s expectations & favorite tropes” , “play it safe”... at the end, I’d be creating sth that won’t ever stand out & will drown in the ocean of popular stories.. but those writers who are brave enough don’t play it safe, don’t play into fans services, who finish a character off/ a sub-plot when it is most convenient regardless of the characters’ popularity amongst fans, who tackle ugly topics from different perspectives can actually create sth extraordinary.

people want the victim/oppressed to rise above the injustice committed against them, become way better, achieve happiness, get their stolen rights back, to not become an uglier copy of their attacker. There are victims who do that. yes. Thank God! but there are those who can’t/ don’t. It is true. It is reality that some victims fail & end up in way horrible situations than when they started. In fiction, there are many stories about the former type, but very few abt the later cuz ppl don’t like that. it is frustrating to see/read. But writing abt it creates an amazing chance to criticize the horrors of war. Killing ppl physically & mentally.

If watch a child tragically abused, you’ll cheer for them to win, live, to become a hero!!! if they do, you’ll walk away from the story satisfied feeling “ good always win”. but watch them fail, succumb into the darkness & become a copy of the injustice committed against them, become a monster!!! you’ll walk away from the story disappointed!! angry, feeling robbed of your time, curse even! hate it all... but the feeling of betrayal stays with you.... sending a subliminal message that “ .... creating victims can create heroes or monsters... so... rather than discussing the victim... discuss the injustice itself!! DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN!.. you don’t need to cheer for little heroes or curse little monsters if there were no injustice/darkness creating them. ..... but there will always be injustice created by human.. repeated over & over through history.

often times you can guess the direction the story is heading to from its opening ep, if you miss that, you got the major eps scattered thro season. AOT didn’t trick anyone. it was obvious as the sun in the Sahara that this is a story with darkness emphasized, with No victories simply cuz “ there will always be war/fights even if only 2 ppl remain” or sth like this forgot the actual quote but it is said by either erwin or pixis. In every victory, the story does not celebrate it but instead emphasizes the tragedies behind it. e,g: When Eren plugged the hole in season 1, humanities first victory against titans, what is the next scene? Finding marco dead & lots of pictures of dead soldiers & citizens. When Annie was crystalized, did we celebrate preventing the enemy from escaping? No. we saw citizens die left & right, all just to catch her. When the uprising was happening & historia become queen, did we win? No. Zackery, a military dictator was sitting in her counsel enjoying torturing nobles & his hobby was in no way secret to even erwin.. the list goes on.. this is a story that focuses on the loss more than the gains, in the struggle more than the result. it is not abt winning or losing a war, it is abt “ its horror” created by ppl with different perspective that fail to see eye to eye with the other side.

This is a tough story that most mainstream media & non-aniime / or light anime watchers are used to see in big Hollywood films or Game of Thrones or sth. There are extremely dark anime out there, darker that AOT, but AOT has reached an unprecedented level of exposure especially with social media. ppl talk abt it & warn against it or cheer for it when it is not even finished yet. so, I applaud the writer for not going insane from pressure!!!!!! please Mr. writer, write the story as you first intended because this connects the dots that you have planted early on within the story, don’t give in into the pressure & attempt “ happier outcome, or safer result, or more commercialized solution”. End it as bravely as you started it. Tie together all the themes. Good luck!!!! you’ve got millions of eyes watching you. Some want you to win, others want you to fail & prove them right.. after all, it is all abt perspective.

*SLAMS TABLE* THANK YOU ANON LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO

ok, so i've been thinking abt putting some more symbolism and foreshadowing into my au, but i didn't really know how to do that

until i remembered there was supposedly a show that aired around 1983 in fnaf 4, so i made plot for it :]

(i'm just gonna put this under a "keep reading bc this fucker's gonna be l o n g)

just tl;dr: fredbear goes missing, freddy and friends + spring bonnie go out to look for him, find the funtimes, get kidnapped, villain gets revealed, spring bonnie escapes, comes back with new friends and beats main villain's ass

so, the show first started when an indie animation studio asked william and henry to make a kids show based off of their characters, and they gave the go ahead. the show was called "fazbear and friends", and here's kinda the general stuff:

your main character is spring bonnie, who is looking for their lost boyfriend best friend, fredbear. he had been kidnapped not too long ago along with some other people in their village by an unknown villain. they go to the fazbear crew-- freddy, bonnie, chica, and foxy -- for help. they accept bc fredbear is their friend too and they wanna help ppl

so they start heading out, and whenever they think they're a step closer to fredbear, they meet one of the funtimes. the first one they encounter is ballora, a ballerina mother who is looking for her daughter. they next meet funtime foxy and funtime freddy, who are star-crossed lovers who were banished from their village. they then meet circus baby, who at first was hostile towards the group but then saw ballora and calmed down.

now, all of these characters have special abilities:

freddy: an enchanting, really good singing voice. it's able to scare away enemies because they hate positivity (this is a kids' show may i remind you lmao) bonnie: really good at playing guitar. he often accompanies freddy's singing. chica: amazing drummer and also accompanies freddy and bonnie. when she's not doing that, she's making pizza for everyone. she also has a magic rainbow as a pet, but no one knows where it came from foxy: really good storyteller and a cool pirate man with good skills with his sword. he needs work on sailing a ship though fredbear: the ability to communicate with people from far away as well as spirits spring bonnie: the ability to disguise as anyone they want, but they have to do the voice impressions themself (which they're pretty good at) circus baby: can turn her arms into claws to fight people. she can also make ice cream from her stomach ballora: she can dance fight. and she's very flexible and can walk around like a spider funtime freddy: really good magician and can actually use magic to make things appear and reappear. also can make anyone laugh by telling a joke (stand up comedian shit) funtime foxy: very jazzy dance man and can dodge most attacks with ease

they all become somewhat good friends and get along!

anyways, so they all finally stumble upon what seems to be an abandoned palace. they find fredbear inside what seems to be a throne room. fredbear and spring bonnie rekindle, but then all of a sudden, their magic is taken away. fredbear's magic seems to be different as he was able to cuff everyone's hands with a weird magic and he introduces someone he's been working for this entire time: the pink peril.

so pink peril explains that he was the one kidnapping people because he wanted to take all the magic in the world and take it over for himself because evil reasons. and he found out that you can take someone's magic away when they are at their most vulnerable (for example, spring bonnie is most vulnerable around fredbear). he then explains that he had kidnapped fredbear but promised him a small fraction of pink peril's power if he joined him. so fredbear did just that. plus, he wanted to ensure that pink peril didn't hurt spring bonnie or any of the others.

spring bonnie and the rest of the gang are of course hurt, and spring bonnie declares their romantic relationship friendship over. before everyone is locked away so they can get their powers taken away, pink peril notices chica's pet magic rainbow and says something about it being connected to someone called the white rabbit. so he tries taking it away from the gang, but spring bonnie manages to escape the magic binding their arms, takes the rainbow, and escapes. everyone else is cheering them on, and they promise that they'll come back to rescue everyone.

[end of season 1]

now, this is representative of william's first travel through fnaf world, but it's a little different. so william burns in the ffps fire and wakes up in fnaf world. he meets fredbear and is told that if he wants his punishment suspended for a bit, he's gonna have to go and gather all the other souls he burned with. and fredbear also sends the missing children with him so he doesn't try anything funny. so they find kathryn, mike schmidt, fritz smith, charlie, and elizabeth while on their travels. they also meet up with carol and chris bc they were sent by fredbear to help. the group then meets up with fredbear again but they then get transported to a weird dimension where they meet someone who calls himself "king mikah" (who is really king michael but michael decided to be an identity thief for 2.2 seconds). so "king mikah" explains that he had taken over fnaf world to indulge in experiments with remnant and also to give william a "proper punishment", so they all fight, the group succeeds, and "king mikah" escapes and goes into hiding. william then goes and finds that "king mikah" had been building a place for himself, and as he was being chased bc he broke into the place, he found a room full of portals to different dimensions. he jumped into one and was never seen again. unfortunately though, that portal led to the vr game fazbear ent was developing, which starts the rest of act 3

SO now onto season 2 of fazbear and friends! so spring bonnie had escaped pink peril's clutches and comes upon a forest of glowing trees. here, he follows a mysterious figure to someone called the white rabbit. the white rabbit explains that she has been trapped in this realm for years because of an unknown force stripping her of her magic and sealing her there. she then recognizes chica's magic rainbow, and they merge to form the white princess, who is just the white rabbit but her powers have been restored. she gives thanks to spring bonnie by telling them she will help them with whatever they want. so they then explain the stuff with pink peril, and white princess is really sad bc they used to know each other in a positive way :'( but they were also granted some magic to help fight.

as they go on their way to pink peril's palace, they meet up with a refugee from the palace, the marvelous marionette, who gives them shelter to hide from pink peril and plan out their attack. sadly though, they are eventually found by pink peril, and white princess is kidnapped. behind the scenes though, pink peril had brainwashed her into becoming pink peril's own magic rainbow, and now that he has her on his side, he can take over the world.

spring bonnie finds themself in the glowing forest again, but this time they meet the white king, who is white princess's father. spring bonnie notices there's a seal placed on him so he can't escape, but spring bonnie, using the magic white princess had bestowed them, frees the king and they face pink peril once and for all.

they first free the fazbear gang and the funtimes. then, they face the evil magic rainbow. as they face pink peril one-on-one, they use the power of friendship to defeat him, and peace is finally restored to the land. fredbear tries rekindling his and spring bonnie's relationship, but they reject him and he gets put in jail.

[end of season 2/show]

now this one is a bit more complicated to explain. so william and vannie fight and they die together in a fire vannie had caused. they wake up together and face "king mikah" immediately. they are taken to his palace where he explains what he's gonna do to them. vannie then exposes him as michael and not mikah, and he gets mad. william and vannie escape together before anything happens.

as they're running from king michael as far as they can, they meet up with spring bonnie, who helps them on their journey to stop king michael. they explain that they're not working with king michael because they and fredbear had a really bad falling out. spring bonnie didn't want to work with a cruel king who took the land by force, but fredbear ensured they'd have great power. william knew that was familiar, but couldn't put is tongue on it >:/o

then, they meet up with charlie, and she offers them shelter to plan out how to defeat king michael. she and cassidy also had a falling out of their own, but charlie still loved her with all her heart and wanted to save her. but then vannie gets kidnapped and brainwashed into becoming chica's/michael's magic rainbow.

william them stumbles upon the lord scott, who was the old ruler of the land before michael had taken over. he agrees to help william if william can accept his fate of punishment. william accepts and then they go face michael.

they fight for a bit and as michael is about to serve the final blow, vannie comes up behind him and stabs him in the chest, leaving him fatally injured. scott becomes ruler of fnaf world again, everyone's happy, and michael and william get sent to their respective levels to be punished.

born in seoul , sk to a beautiful , university student mother and a big business father . his father was ten years her senior .

it was a strange relationship truly , but neither really cared anyways . his mother didn’t care because she loved this man and his father didn’t care because well , he had a beautiful woman on his arm .

there was also the fact that he’d knocked her up and it would’ve been a disgrace to his own family to leave a woman and his child

so the marriage was forced , in his father’s eyes at least . he never quite loved her , not as much as she loved him . her life was molded into something fake and the light in her eyes dwindled as time went on . expected to be a housewife and not what her own dreams wanted her to be .

( she was a fashion design student , was in love with the idea of a simple piece of fabric being turned into something that could brighten eyes and turn heads )

it’s scary what someone would do for love or at least a fabricated version of love she didn’t want to leave , afraid of the truth

thus in turn , growing up jaein had a skewed vision of what love was , he received so much love and encouragement from his mother yet received cold harsh treatment from his father . watched his mother with hearts in her eyes as she watched his father and saw his father write her off like she meant nothing

jaein had a love for fashion from a young age , watching his mother make her own clothing in her small little space in the house , watched her sew fabrics and buttons and jewels together to make a masterpiece . she taught him all she knew , loved the way his eyes lit up like hers would when she was younger . he always found joy in helping his mother pick out pretty dresses and doing her make up

always dreamed of dressing people up like he’d help dress her up

he was always a more introverted child , he found nice company with his mother as mentioned above , she was always his best friend . however his father wanted him to be more , hated to watch his son find a love for something that would get him no where just like his mother . hated to watch him fall in love with smth that was some Prissy shit

when he was ten his father got offered a big job in milan , italy and off jaein went . forced to pack up his life and leave everything behind for a father that cared little about him

he was in heaven though ... kinda ... a fashion hub of the world it felt like his dreams were coming true . however it was while living in italy where his father was really forcing his hand on him

forced him to be apart of the more popular social scene , shoving him into crowds he didn’t do well with . forced his introverted and shy son to be extroverted and outgoing , to attend parties and let people use him however they saw fit . he didn’t make friends , he met ppl that wanted his money , wanted him because he was pretty .

people pushed him around a lot . physically , emotionally .

his father wanted him to be some big business man , take after himself and shit , jaein obviously didn’t want that , he wanted to do fashion and create things . his father wasn’t happy when he told him he’d be moving back to korea ( age 18 ) to pursue a degree in fashion design .

that furthered strained their relationship or whatever relationship they even possessed because his father wasn’t really present as a parental figure , the one time jaein stuck up for himself was the last line for his father who ended up p much disowning him

his mother was still there in his life watching him go to university , she supported his move and pays his tuition behind her husbands back bc she wants to toxically live through her own son as he chases the dreams she had

it was because of that that he had gotten his job at solar . his mother had paid his way in there and he hadn’t found out until recently , putting strain on their relationship because he felt like he couldn’t trust her . he would never tell a soul this though , so it’s his own internal battle !

personality-ish .

generally he’s sweet . kind , selfless , wants to help others more than help himself which leads to destructive tendencies of overworking himself .

he wants to be perfect , he wants to impress others , it’s why he shifts himself so much to fit a mold he doesn’t think he can fit .

his mother cares for him , loves him so much , but there’s always been pressure on his shoulders to be just like his father . he loves fashion he really does , he loves being able to create something that people will love , but he’s way too doubtful of himself , he never thinks anything he does is good enough which is definitely trauma from his father ( now from his mother because he doesn’t know if he should be at solar anymore ) , so he questions whether this is what he’s supposed to be doing or not .

he has hella daddy issues ... is struggling w the relationship w his mom bc of what she’d done . doesn’t talk to them .. talks to his mother on occasion but otherwise he’s pretty mf lonely but pretends to be happy bc he’s so good at pretending !

he’s a gemini . so he’s an annoying little petty whore and is quite moody and finicky and meticulous . he doesn’t trust ppl ... so many factors play into that from his parents to how he was treated by his peers , he’s just guarded and has trust issues up the ass .

yet he can be quite naive and he’s always craved love and affection ( that isn’t rough ) , so he’s thrown himself into things only to get himself hurt in the process ! he just wants validation and tried to get it in the worst way hehe ! like if u tryna get in his pants just be like hey ur amazing and he’ll drop to his knees ANYWAYSFLDKSJF

he can talk for hours once u get him started and get him out of his shell , though he can be quite self conscious about a lot of things

still pretends to be an extrovert but he’s definitely not !

ooooooh my god... finally got around to checking out the manhwa hotel phryne (i had seen the cover graphic around w the guy in vines w the other guy behind him and i was like what kind of weird kinky shit is this and then i learned abt the actual plot...) and WOAH... this manhwa is gonna be one hell of a fucking ride. the author is not pulling their punches.

the IG post that finally brought this manhwa to my attention already showed that the long-term plot was gonna be the guy having to pick the real love interest out of the dopplegangers so i knew what was gonna happen but the first few ch were real interesting bc you kind of get a sense that both of them are kind of sketch ... there’s that scene of doyoon being like ‘this guy is dangerous’ abt hyunjin and then also you literally find out nothing more abt hyunjin’s personality other than the few scenes you have from doyoon’s POV so there’s that but then doyoon also doesn’t seem like a completely nice guy even before they get to hotel phryne (and that’s where the darker parts of his personality pop up a lil more so)... and then the whole hotel phryne thing is pretty fucked up but like not the same kind of fucked up as the weird influx of stalker manhwas these days. like... warehouse is fucked up in a bad way and i couldn’t bring myself to continue after the end of s1 but this manhwa is fucked up as in even though i wince at scenes (like omg (spoiler) the scene when the rose guy FUCKING outs the scissors cast jin was hiding??? i forgot what was going on in that scene but was rose guy trying to push cast jin into doing something ?? regardless i honestly almost yelled) i’m like eager to see what’s coming next.

i’m super hype to learn more abt hyunjin through this game bc you know this is how the author is going to reveal his personality/backstory esp w rose guy just fucking around w him... but tbh (spoiler) i don’t 100% believe the cast guy is the real hyunjin even though the story is pushing us to believe that. i feel like it’s the rose guy gaslighting a fake but then writing-wise it wouldn’t really make sense to focus a lot on a fake who theoretically won’t even make it out of the hotel ... but then again based on how this story is going i wouldn’t put it past the author to red herring us until the end. (although v clever way to differentiate him at least by breaking his arm) also looking forward to the revelation of what is rose guy and hotel phryne’s deal ... bc that scene after doyoon booked the room was super interesting and w rose guy being like ‘let’s play a game’ while also being like ‘go and kill the other fakes man’... hmMMM

i’m kind of mad that the raws aren’t that far ahead of the translations so now i gotta fucking wait fr to see developments ... honestly cannot wait for next tuesday bc i really want to see the full thing rose guy said to cast jin (bc obviously from the raws it wasn’t just ‘you’re a fake’) but also i have so much work to do in the future so at the same time i don’t want tuesday to come lol. also can’t wait to see how the other hyunjins get developed lol, i think they might be pulling a selfcest w red and orange hair which is lol but ya know how it is. ppl said that one of the most recent raws updates made ppl dislike it on toonkor but y’all need to get your heads out of your asses bc clearly this manhwa is gonna have some more messed up/things you won’t like happen so just suck it up and appreciate writing (unless it was bad writing. then i can’t wait to be disappointed but it just look like a plot twist was introduced)

me ranting about yuu once again

no one is saying yuu isn’t allowed to feel happy. (as yuudefensesquad all i want is for him to be happy aight) we are saying we wish yuu was allowed to be upset, hurt, and angry. things that he purposefully avoids feeling.

like really? he’s just chill w ferid hanging around after going on a mind blanking sword slashing spree with him after their first reunion? this dude flaunting around akane’s head and nearly turning into a full demon after experiencing that?

he’s all happy to be talking to guren even though their previous encounter had guren betraying yuu and his squad and stabbing him? did he just get hit on the fucking head and forgot about that? and then being all sympathetic and being like “wow i bet you were really hurting guren im sorry ):” yet guren never asks if he is okay and understands his situation? yuu just had to figure it all out for himself? (i love guren but DUDE...)

plus with guren putting the guren squad’s lives on yuu’s shoulders after saying they’ll disappear if he doesn’t find a solution really makes me feel bad bc. THIS ALL. IS JUST ONE BIG CLUSTER FUCK OF STRESS AND RESPONSIBILITIES HE ALREADY FEELS LIKE HE HAS TO REVIVE THE ENTIRE WORLD AND NOW PEOPLE HE KNOWS AND IN SUCH A SHORT TIME SPAN

also he’s all smiling and eager to help after seeing human experimentation that his father / mentor figure was acting upon? you know, something that destroyed his family?

he’s under all this stress, having guren in one ear and mika in the other, telling him two different things and the realization that’s he has been in a cruel, supernatural practice since the day he was born isn’t making him freak the fuck out like any 16/17 yo would?

how he feels being a seraph? the second trumpet? having it? are the transformations painful because he surely screamed for the first two times. like do the wings leave marks? do they burn or itch? also with guren knowing all along and never speaking up about it, being smug at the battlefield when yuu forcefully turned, how does he feel abt guren saving him just to be a bioweapon? what are his thoughts more than just ‘im able to protect my family with this thing!’ BC GOD DAMMIT YUU YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN A SHIELD PLEASE STOP

his feelings aren’t being explored. yeah, he’s smiling. yeah, he’s happy to have mika like y’all keep saying. but mika coming back to him doesn’t solve all of his shit. mika isn’t his cure or salvation or fixes all of his issues like ive seen people assume he does. we aren’t getting deep in there. yuu’s earliest trauma was briefly explored and then forgotten about and replaced with another seraph transformation

“but we had like 3147891274 chapters of him being emo” yes and it was all forgotten immediately once mika came back into his life. we got no development on yuu’s feelings about it. just immediately he started seeking the cure for vampirism and asking for his family to save mika with him, not him thinking about how the species he wanted to mass murder for killing his family is actually a part of his surviving family and suddenly he views them like fellow human beings, especially FERID F UC KING B ATH ORY WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK KAGAM

and about ferid i know things are kinda tight in between scenes w the story right now and i just want yuu to be like “hey once this is all over i’m fucking murdering ferid” and mika being like “lets kill him together” THAT WOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME !!!

and people say “i hate it when ppl say yuu coming back into mikas life solved all of mikas problems” bc surely enough it seems to be the complete other way around to how people interpret this and it sucks because yuu is so much more than just ‘a sad boy who is happy now bc his bff came back’ that’s not how it works. neither of them can fix all of the other’s issues. that includes BOTH. SIDES.

the most relevant thing to yuu’s survivor’s guilt (which should be optimized more in my opinion) was yuu immediately apologizing to mika for running away as their first meeting since sanguinem and his severe abandonment issues, and taking on all the blame

AND YUU CRYING WHEN SEEING THE HYAKUYA KIDS??? CAN I GET MORE OF THAT PLEASE??? THAT WAS SOME GOOD FUCKING FOOD AND I AM STARVING IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I’VE ATE SOME YUU SADNESS

demons use their host’s weakest points to take advantage of them. yuu’s weakest points was being told by his family that he abandoned them, that it’s his fault, that he should’ve done something, asking why he got to meet friends and replace them when he left them all behind in the first place AND OUCH CAN MIKA LIKE SIT DOWN WITH HIM AND CAN THEY COMMUNICATE ABOUT WHAT FUCKIN HAPPENED FOR REAL!!! LIKE A HEART TO HEART!!! BECAUSE CLEARLY THERE’S SOME UNSPOKEN SHIT IF MIKA IS STILL BLAMING HIMSELF AND YUU IS STILL UNABLE TO VOCALIZE HIS FEELINGS ABOUT THINGS im so u p s et

god dammit i want someone to come up to yuu and be like “hey buddy... you know it’s okay to not be okay right... i know things are tough right now and i have no fucking idea how you’re all smiley and giggly right now and i’m wondering if you’re just smiling not only for us but to trick yourself into believing that everything’s fine and dandy...”

YES yuu has his happy moments YES yuu can feel happy

BUT FEELINGS. AREN’T. STATIC. THEY CHANGE.

it makes NO SENSE for yuu’s emotion to only be the ^_^ face

like yuu is literally in a tug of war right now between guren and mika and his squad isn’t helping by just existing in the bg panels and going along with guren’s plan without any complaints

like don’t yell at just yuu for not abiding by mika’s words because the shinoa squad + narumi aren’t clean either AND IT’S NOT A MATTER OF FAULT OR BLAME because not every character is black or white.

i’m so sorry for rambling but just. give me my boy. i love him for his smile but i also love him for his development and entire character. not just his expression and his relationships with people. i love him for yuuichirou hyakuya, you know, the kid who escaped sanguinem screaming and crying, who had night terrors, who blamed himself for years, who wanted to die, who has ptsd, who has trust issues, who has abandonment issues, who is possibly a codependent

like. he hasn’t accomplished his goal for eternal happiness yet. you have to go through so much to achieve that and he hasn’t. i don’t know if kagami is leading up for a severe breakdown or something but... sheesh

and all people ever do is reduce yuu to the “dumbass” character and he’s so much more than that. he’s following his heart and trying his best and it’s not going to make everyone happy. he’s going to make someone upset either way

i know the story is currently plot-heavy and not character heavy but i’m so... KAGAMI. PLEASE. if yall got input LMK i need to know what people think about this and if im the only one or not

Fruits Basket, SE02, Ep25 (Season Finale)

ah~ I finished furuba’s Season 2..T_T.. now my life is empty..that’s a good ep!

- A moment with yuki:

I think there’s sth I still don’t understand abt yuki’s tohru-mom feelings...I thought that yuki after acknowledging such feelings, will slowly build a healthier, more equal relationship with tohru & the only reason he didn’t tell her is cuz he wants her to be ready & not worry. So today, it makes sense that he comes & tells tohru he stood up for himself & was scared but made it! he’s proud of himself & tohru should be proud of him, too. Also, it helps tohru let go of worrying abt him & realize his growth. All amazing!!! However, the scene was depicted in a way that screams, “look mommy, I’ did it!” rather than a friend reaching out & proudly telling a friend. it really cemented the mom-son dynamics. I felt “awe look at him proudly telling his mom” sth I thought, we’ll be slowly moving away from towards more equal dynamics. Yuki was drawn extra thin & he was leaning as if he was waiting for a head pat. Nothing is wrong with yuki wanting motherly feels since he never got one but i felt nothing changed between them. yuki still below tohru. I mean he’ll never be able to repay her kindness. true. but I thought the story will let us see him standing taller bit by bit, y’know? I know he still calls her honda-san & perhaps him finally calling her “tohru” is when they’re equal..but shouldn’t he move slowly towards that? rather than suddenly coming & thanking her for being his much needed mother figure? why is this scene depicted with extremely strong mother-son feel? could it be cuz yuki is still putting tohru in a pedestal? he told momiji “did u do sth worthy of honda-san’s praise” as if tohru isn’t the person who praises momiji for a cute uniform or kyo for making a standard riceball. hmm, maybe yuki can’t be equal to her if he still sees her as the sky or an angel or someone who desperately needs protection. tohru is precious to him & he’ll protect her with his life, but I thought he’ll do so as a friend, not as a son. Maybe SE03 is abt him learning to see tohru as a normal, lacking but still amazing person? I’d love to see that!!

- Shigure ( the main character ):

It’s always forgotten that this goofy, good for nuthin dude is a main character. But once he turns dark & reveals his face, no doubt that this guy is the plot’s leader! Shigure doesn't do lengthy inner monologues, nor his actions are easy to read. Mayuko is right “ he is like a ripple in the water” .The stages of shigues’s emotions:

Bitter: “why not let yuki take responsibility & tend for akito?” mocking akito’s bedridden status over yuki’s defiance. “ why u ask abt tohru in the phone?” & proceeds to mock kureno for calling. Tohru would never answer the phone first. “ you’re featherbrained” cruelly mocking him using a pun on his zodiac while suspecting he isn’t one anymore. Only shigure is capable of such salt!

Silent Anger: looking at akito as she rants abt him not coming to her first! not choosing her first. while she’s the one who didn’t choose him. “you’re one to talk” Epic!! “ what do you want from her?” shigure had no right intruding on kureno’s business with tohru. but he’s too angry to behave. Kureno answers like a good boy.

Refusing to play blind: hatori looking for excuses for akito’s behavior within the curse’s lore. Shigure fires back with “haven’t u ever felt sth off with kureno?”. They all did. “ Ah~at long at last” not even waiting for kureno to say first.

Sticking his finger in open wounds: “don’t accept it?scared? sad? emotionally attached to the bond?” Verdict: “devious” he’s calling out hatori & kureno both!

Embracing himself with no regrets: “ weak, intolerant, worthless, worst kind of man”. He embodies his own description of himself as he talks to kureno over the phone & sends tohru. “ see you later” only the worst kind of man uses tohru like that. sending her with no clue to an emotional shock. He wants the situation to escalates. He’ll use tohru if he have to. Let’s see if kureno’s “kindness” spares tohru the pain or if it tears her heart apart as it has been tearing everybody, kureno induced!

-Akito’s manipulating tactics start to backfire:

“ I speak cruelly of you, You know I don’t say it out of spite” very typical sentence abusers say to further their grasp around others. Insult them cruelly, then play the kind apologetic card. It makes the other person linger longer. “X didn’t meant it. X actually cares. X just lost control”. It happens in domestic abuse cases all the time.. it never changes..it never stops. Akito knows when she’s loosing her grip on someone. she feels it. Her ego doesnt let her acknowledge it. However, seeing akito’s innocent young self humanized her so much. She wasn’t despicable since birth as we’ve seen in yuki’s flashback, but here she was even more innocent than with yuki. Could it be cuz it’s from kureno’s perspective? someone older than her? or she treated older male zodiacs differently. Akito knew kureno’s curse broke as he himself did. hmm. it’s the bond, so the ruler does have a connection with the zodiacs. Akito fearing kureno’s abandonment is understandable. Akito using tears, screams, pleads & frantic behavior, “so typical of spoiled children” to get kureno to stay. It is a working tactic. A tactic that abusive adults use in toxic relationships so much & works to trap the other party to stay. Stay with me cuz you pity me, yes, but I’m the one on control. Keeping in mind akito’s age here, she looks 6? 10 maximum! is really twisted. Akito learned early one that manipulation works. She gets what she wants by playing games, whether it’s tears, pity, rage, ridicule, mockery, bets, humiliation, or sexual seduction. It reinforces her behavior that nothing can stand between her & her desires. curse or no curse. If she can keep a non-cursed person, then the cursed ones are way weaker to leave. This, off course doesn’t justify her abusive behavior with yuki/ kyo/ momiji/ kisa/ rin/ haru/ hatori but today, we got a small window open into her psyche. The best “antagonist” is someone with irrational behavior that stems from twisted mindset! She is so interesting!

-Kureno & ( the most destructive foolish traveler):

So, kureno stayed with akito cuz he can’t turn a sad, lonely, fragile child away. Can’t bear to break her heart. The child became a woman. The woman needed him in bed, he can’t turn a sad lonely woman away. He gave in & their relationship became even more twisted with the complexity of intimacy issues. Kureno said “ arisa is the first person he ever loved on his own”. meaning that he slept with akito using the remaining feelings of attachment of his previous bond. EXACTLY as shigure said while questioning hatori’s refusal to believe the curse can break“ emotionally attached to the bond”. He continued this unbalanced sexual affair with her. completely submissive to her moods & whims. Unbalanced relationship cuz both stayed together for twisted reasons “unable to let go”, She has control over him since she’s the family head, over even his freedom outside the house, He is willingly submissive to her, choosing to not seek his happiness, not standing up & denying her, or stopping her or telling her sth as simple as “ i want to go out to the supermarket”. content & satisfied with his dull, lifeless life. Until akito “ the sad child/ the sad woman doesn’t need him anymore??? but kureno can see that him staying by akito’s side didn’t do shit to improve anybody’s situation!!! Akito is still miserable! even before tohru appears in their lives. all the zodiacs were miserable & united in a toxic fake bond. The bond is so fake that all this time there was a fake imposter & no one dared to question. They’re so accustomed to submissive obedience that they don’t dare to hope. Only shigure. The intolerant jerk saw through it all.

-Kureno is a different kind of foolish traveler. He helped no one. Not even the person he gave his eyes to, Akito didn’t benefit from his kindness. He didn’t benefit, nor arisa, nor any zodiac. What kureno’s kindness brought him is misery. What it brought the sohma’s is enabling abuse & continuation of current toxic atmosphere. He is a more sever enabler than hatori. Hatori enabled the continuation of the curse by erasing memories & staying by akito’s bed tending for her with no life of his own. But hatori knows he’s a sinner & hatori is still chained by the bond. Kureno is free to leave. Yet, he’s still here deceiving everybody & suffering alone while pretending to be content with fake smile. Was Kureno raised to always follow orders? No personality. No needs. Still, he decides to continue even after given a chance to leave now!!!! he lost the first chance due to a promise he made while he was afraid, lonely & felt pity. Now, he knows someone there loves him (arisa), he has a new friend (tohru), someone flat out told him to freakin leave (shigure). Still, he feels that causing akito to break down & cry is cruel. The most passive character in the shows I’ve watched!! Kuteno is another proof of this brilliant writer! there are many kureno’s around us. hurting themselves & others by staying in the cycle of abuse. The writer is really brilliant for writing such variety of characters. Who cares if fans find him appealing or not? hot or dull? good or bad? that’s not the issue here. He fits the plot so amazingly & realistically represents real life ppl who are caught between causing immense harm & being severely harmed, between helping & ruining! Kureno just closed his own caged tight shut behind him. so foolish, so tragic!

Side Notes:

Momiji pulling tohru to his level to tell her abt his achievement is cute! I was told he’s supposed to be taller than tohru now! can’t wait to see that!

Momiji’s been dressing more mature for a while, such as the violin ep, ep24 & now. All three tops while still having so much decorations, a hint of feminine designs are still in tune with momiji’s funky spirit! Also they are NOT toddler-like clothes! at all. I’m convinced it is done on purpose!! baby is growing!

I love dark shigure!! OMG! the story take a whole other level once he turns dark & turns off the goofy mode, activating the bitter mode! He was raw with no mercy & unveiled hatori’s hidden feelings with no hesitation. He tore kureno like a vicious dog! I LOVE.

Akito’s Japaneses VA is queen! & shigure’s Japaneses VA is so amazing!! can’t wait for his American VA!!! he’s one of my faves!

the bond breaking visuals are perfect! 10/10. No words needed.

tohru does have a women’s intuition! She is the most emotionally intelligent & socially perceptive character in furuba, just as long as it’s not abt herself. XD

tohru had a flashback within a flashback! lol. flashback inception!

they gave tohru a lil bit bigger boobies than usual!! my girl is maturing, too? =D

The scene of kureno & akito’s innocent childhood & the curse lifting being cut & inserted all over the ep is EPIC!! 10/10 presentation. It gave the ep eerie & distorted feel. Exactly as both kureno & akito felt.

The scenes of tohru realizing sth is off with kureno’s curse is 10/10.

“ how did the curse break?” tohru’s first question! wow! I thought it was good for you, I’m happy, then ask afterwards. But NO. Interesting!!!!

I love that there is NO explanation of why the curse broke!!! I hope there is NEVER any explanation!! plz don’t let it be sth magical kureno did without noticing or anything. Let it either be random to keep the suspense as we wouldn’t know who’s is next or let be sth abt the bond somehow. But not sth tohru herself needs to do!

I still don’t understand kureno much, but I find him well-written for the reasons mentioned in my post. As for akito, I still don’t know much abt her. I doubt I’ll like her easily. But I can feel that her part in the story would be so amazingly entertaining!!

Shigure is the most unique furuba character hands down!!!!! this unbelievably entertaining jerk! is hot too.
