Hey do you have any tips when it comes to amv's? I'm a big fan of your stuff so i'd love to hear any suggestions you might have! also if you have any tips on software as well

hmm well i guess first of all re: software i don't have any particular suggestions because ill be honest i use a cracked version of some like $300 program and tbh its not worth it i just don't want to change my ways LOL it freezes and crashes a looot and the autosave is only sort of helpful. i used imovie on my phone before that and i figure thats probably totally acceptable. i don't do any really fancy transitions or anything else, so.

Otherwise ummmm well this is advice i myself am bad at consistently following but its nice to follow the beat of the song in a clear pattern, like following the pattern and tempo of the music itself. sometimes the instrumentals overpower the lyrics in controlling the flow of the song, sometimes its the other way around, so i usually like to go with whichever element seems most dominant. like my jjba name of love amv i followed the example of the amv with the same song which inspired me and went almost completely off the sounds in the music because it has some pretty prominent ones which guide the pace a lot more than the vocals do. but in my kh against me amv i MOSTLY followed the vocals. if that makes sense. and i think it depends on how u think about the song. like i dont remember an inch of my elementary school music class and cant really focus on instrumentals AND vocals at once so i struggle with that part.

most of all im just fucking around and doing what feels right per song and source material lol. id be cautious with transitions esp like the zoom type because they make ME motion sick. but thats just me. umm personally i try to be conservative with using sounds from the show/game/whatever in the amv like i like this jjba amv but this person looooves using sound effects and dialogue from the show and this ones pushing the line for me. i developed a lot of strong opinions in what i like or dislike in an amv from spending too long watching too many one piece amvs so i go a lot off personal taste. i prefer revolutionary girl utena bet on it and mortal kombat theme amvs to like 100 one piece everybody wants to rule the world or imagine dragons trying to be really cool and dramatic and actiony amvs myself even though i am not immune to well done actiony amvs either. most of all i think u just need a vision and to go for it! hope this helps :]

My kingdom hearts ships really just have become yes.

I straight up made this list because at somepoint imma draw these ships whether it's aus or not.

I like Sornami this I don't know why but I always felt Sora have more chemistry with Namine even if it's based off fake memories for the first half. But also I'm still slightly prefer them with others as well.

Love soriku there's no question their I reblog it like alot the ship has stuck with me sense kh2. And hasn't ever left. But other than that I'm a sucker for friends to lovers troop and this was the first friends to rivals to enemies to friends to loves. I'm not one who normally like rivals to lovers or enemies to lovers but this ship opened that up for me especially with how Riku tries so hard to redeem himself for Sora when he doesn't even have to.

Sorkai in kh 1 is great but shaky about it later on especially with reading the novels and looking at the translation of kh 3 also cause I think Kairi deserves better than how Sora treats her sometimes. It's like she's an after thought sometimes and it sucks.

Now Kairi with anyone else is higher then sorkai like roxiri, vankai, venkai, namikai, xion x kairi and sometimes and this is really just sometimes Odette x Kairi. I love all the ships and how their concepts could be.

I love namixi, rokunami, rokunamixi (ot3 like I think it'd be wholesome if they all were together and caring for eachother), rokushi these just are wholesome regardless of how you look at them.

Repliku and Namine I don't really ship Riku in Namine because I think Nomura shot that down instantly by changing the cutscene but also I liked the idea of Riku treating Namine, Kairi and Xion all similar sense he tends to interact slightly similar with each of them. But Repliku and Namine is both sad and wholesome it's probably due to the biased I have for liking the fan made trio with her the lost trio.

Vanami and Vankai so I got a reason for liking these two ships one the concept of Vanitas probably seeing Kairi as weak (in his eyes) or something but growing and interested in her for standing up and facing him despite that. Maybe they'd start off at odds not liking eachother or Vanitas being interesting while Kairi just sees him as a threat. The difference with Namine is I think he'd slightly mellow out not to much but find the fact she can manipulate memories fascinating. Maybe she reaches out wanting to help him even if he's full on darkness she probably would want to help like with Repliku but this time she feels she can is in more control to.

Okay okay the ships Namikai so I liked the aspect of how when they connected they have a light connection not to say that means anything but when Kairi needed someone Namine came in kh 2 and understood her like no one else even if she is technically a form of her Namine develops into her own person outside of Kairi and I just think it's wholesome which ever way you see it platonic or romantic.

Xion and Kairi I think in Xions case this ship is interesting to say the least not that it's bad just sense Xion in that weird grey area, she's Kairi, Sora and Riku at the sametime she develops on her own but still was the memories of Sora of Kairi and possibly Riku as well (cause why else did she experience a memorie only Riku has) so I guess she could have feelings for Kairi off Sora's memories of her but then again as she developed and Kairi slowly grow feelings over her seeing Xion becoming stronger despite her struggles.

I weirdly like Kairi and Strelitzia as a concept it's cute and I feel like wholesome from most comics or people who've talked about it. They tend to have wholesome ideas.

Venkai okay this one is just yes for me while her time away from Sora and training with Aqua she could get to learn not only combat but that she doesn't have to mimic others. From Kairi in Melody of memories in the Japanese translation she seems to blame herself slightly about Sora's death but not only that but from her combat in kh 3 it mimics mainly Sora's but with some of Riku. With Kairi's character constantly trying to catch up to both I feel like with time she lost a bit of herself due to that. From not finding her own way to train or fight that's why I think not only with the training from Aqua could she have time to reflect and think but get advice as well. In that time whether romantic or platonic I think Kairi and Ven would interact alot getting to know eachother and it being healthy to see the Wayfinder trios interactions. It might make her miss her friends but also might make her resolve to grow stronger that much firm. Now to the way I see Venkai sense Ventus is treated as the kid within the Wayfinder trio having someone around his age or also treated could lead to interesting bonding or Ventus mentioning how after all they been through Aqua and Terra still treat him like a kid. Kairi who probably doesn't really mind bring treated like she's younger much but might open up a bit more. Maybe over time they both talk about their worries or the events that happen to find some sort of closure. I think even if Ventus and her I think would he cute I also know full well it can be platonic as well.

Roxiri I will die on this rarepair ship. Okay actual reason I just love the concept the struggle with Roxas not knowing if she likes him for technically being a part of him or if his feelings are his own or Sora's (yes Xion probably go through that struggle to) while Kairi might end up hanging around him for see that he feels left behind to. I know Nomura doesn't address it much but from days and both Xion and him wanting to see where Alex went to when Xion forced a fight on him I do think Roxas should have a bit more struggle with those two events especially with them coming back not saying they wouldn't be friends again I just think they should talk about it maybe there's a stiffness in the air till they interact and in this time Kairi who also feels left behind alot probably talk about it growing a slow bond. From Kairi giving suggestions like Roxas talking it out especially sense thats how her and Axel worked it out. And Roxas letting her know that she doesn't have to face things along or feel left behind and to go at her pace. Maybe they could start having small bit training like he did with Xion in-between her training with Aqua. I feel like Roxas though would probably start off a little bit distant when she approaches probably dealing with the fact now that he's out only to find out Ventus is there and he looks like him exactly. Roxas struggles didn't really get addressed much but I do think if they were Kairi might help him out a bit even if it's just advice. The concept just intrigues me and I love it so dear.

Lastly RokuNamiXi I like Xion and Roxas I personally prefer rokunami a bit more but I also love the concept that they would just date together from me shipping all three pairs of Namine and Xion, Roxas and Xion and Roxas and Namine. I didn't wanna just let any of them be a third wheel. I think it'd be wholesome and sweet to see them all dating eachother from having feelings for eachother.

“I don’t care” vs “But I’ll do it” + The Reason Behind Sora’s Journey (Localization/Character Analysis) (KH3 Re:Mind)

NOTE: I’m really grateful for the likes and reblogs! It really makes my day and gets me motivated to share more things I find/learn. I’ll start to tag my posts for easier organization! I’m thankful for the advice ^o^ This particular line I want to compare is extremely miniscule in the grander scale of things, and I can see my analysis being argued against, but I guess this is me placing my major to use alongside my love for languages/translating/localization. I’ll go back to older posts and organize better if possible. Also, I’ll go back to more translating/localization related things! I just remembered this very particular thing that I wanted to talk about.

(By the way, I honestly don’t feel strongly about ships in KH in general, so please don’t take any of my posts as me personally leaning towards one ship or against another, but feel free to interpret these translations and differences between dubs/languages as you see them.)

Scene: When Sora is about to go back in time to save Kairi

ENG: I don’t care.

JPN: But I’ll do it.

The original text for that line is:

「でもやるよ」

~~~ Analysis:

I’m making a post about this since it always stood out to me in my KH3 JPN watch-throughs. I’ve seen a back and forth about Sora in that moment and Sora’s character in general, and for all the line above is, I feel like this is where wording makes a difference. Sora’s my favorite character too, so I tend to feel even more of a need to understand him and how the games tend to portray him, and sometimes even more so, how language portrays him.

On one hand, the lines pretty much say the same thing. Sora’s planning to forgo any worries about his safety and the general consequences to break nature taboos to save Kairi. But I think where I’m going to go with this is pretty clear. “I don’t care” gives off an air that he didn’t really think about those consequences while “But I’ll do it” shows that he’s considered it and is willing to go through with it despite all of that. This is an extra personal opinion/insight, but I feel that saying that Sora didn’t comprehend what he chose to do is kind of doing his character and his development disservice. High key, I don’t have too much to add onto that so this is a pretty short post that I mostly feel doesn’t have anything amazingly insightful, but it was a thought I wanted to let out in the open.

In terms of localizing/translating, this is another example of how important word choice can be (it’s been zero days since I mentioned word choice fr ToT). Something as small as “don’t care” or “but I’ll” can go a long way. As a writer, I find it to be fascinating to study, even if it’s something a general audience doesn’t actively think about.

About That One Line That Came After:

Same scene, in ENG, Sora says “That’s the whole reason behind my whole journey.” JPN Sora says “My journey started there.” These give off relatively different vibes wording-wise, which is also I find to be interesting. Because in a way, they also say the same thing but it feels different when I read it.

Sometimes KH3 still manages to surprise me. Then, this game has both layers to it and lots of things to do. So today I got the bistro up to the five star rating. This is a part of the game that is easily skipped and honestly doesn't really jive with the rest of the game, mechanically wise. But I digress here. What I want to say is that the cutscene that triggers after getting those five stars, just about melted my heart into a giant puddle. Oh my goodness, some of the dialog, and Sora's interactions with Remy... And how many people even get to see this cutscene?

Goodness, it actually talks about what I tend to think KH is really all about: connection. It's there, right on the nose. But it is all done, with...I guess the whole *chef's kiss* fits rather well here. *happy sigh* It was just so lovely that I had to restart the save a few times to see it again, and take some screen shots because finding that scene anywhere else would be a nightmare. Edit: I actually found the scene on YouTube. Thanks Wayfinder Project!

I guess I should post about how the rest of Re:CoM went. It’s been a while, so my memories a bit fuzzy (ironically). Again, hats off to the story. Masterfully done. Sora gets angry, feels emotions. I feel his emotions. 2 definitely goes into this too, especially with all the Roxas stuff, but it just feels so real here. As a remake of a game on GBA and just like an afterthought to be thrown in as a bonus along with 2FM it’s definitely the definitive way to play CoM in my opinion. The gameplay is definitely different and there’s a few tweaks for the story but I say if you’ve never played it before, definitely give Re:CoM a shot first. And the game really is just trial and error. I’m not gonna defend it, or say it’s good since it’s been so long. No. I have played many games where it was just a get good scenario. Such as 2FM. This is not one of them. Enemies CONSTANTLY break the pre-established rules all the time. And it sucks. Sometimes you’ll have like one bar and a half to go and nope, random slight that you don’t cancel because fuck you OR right after you cancel it? Attack right after that kills you. But this games story telling is really cool, meeting this half of the organization was dope in their own little contained story, and it’s super cool fighting them on a way more even playing field in 2FM. Seriously. I love absent silhouettes. One of the best things to come out of 2FM. But more on that later. I’m terms of story Re:CoM is definitely up there. And it’s funny, because it’s the one where the Disney worlds matter the LEAST to the story. Call me lame, but for me the coolest thing about KH was always when it did it’s own thing. That’s why Hollow Bastion, Castle Oblivion, The World That Never Was. They really stick with me. Because it’s just the raw creativeness of Nomura really shining. And it’s slayed a treat. But yeah, Re:CoM is great story wise. Kind of a chore combat wise, but hey you can always play on beginner orrrrr, get good lol. And that, it my Re:CoM review. More of 2FM at a later date.

1. How many fics do you have on AO3?

Roughly... 16. That's not bad. Quite a respectable number!

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

328,674

Damn. That a lotta word. Wild to think a third of those words are from a single fic huh

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Bit of a lot of things. Hunter x Hunter and Daiya no Ace are my big ones, but I've also written for Kingdom Hearts, Haikyuu, Black Clover, Project Sekai and....... Homestuck.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

"A Very Hisoka Wedding" stands head and shoulders above anything else at 1,143 kudos, which is legit insane. This fic isn't close to being my best. It isn't close to being my most innovative. It isn't even the longest! And yet it has more Hits, Kudos and Bookmarks than anything else I've ever written. Wild. Following that, we have "(Country Roads, Take Me)Home for the Holidays" at 365, my actual magnum opus so far, "Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice" at 321, a short Black Clover ficlet that somehow keeps getting love, "Weekend at Leorio's" at 295 and "Pink Love" at 256.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I used not to respond to comments, but in the past couple of years I've been trying to respond to every comment I get. I like getting responses to my comments when I post on other fics, so I also want people to get that happiness. Besides, it's only polite!

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

...what is angst, signed, a permanently happy ending girlie.

Anyway it's probably "Quadratum Has Pocky", a KH drabble I wrote for Pocky Day which did not leave me with a lot of space for happy endings.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Literally all of them LMAO

But I guess "Red Eyes, Take Warning", my HxHBB fic this year gets special mention by giving Kurapika, the fandom's tragic boy, a happily-ever-after.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sometimes. Home for the Holidays got a couple of comments once we got to the spicy part about how I should have tagged which character topped. That was wild. I'm talking like, HUGE paragraphs.

But not usually, no.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I did once! It was the vanillaest M/M ever written, but I sure did write it!

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I do really like inter-sports-anime crossovers. I once wrote a Haikyuu x Daiya no Ace ficlet that was quite fun!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not since I was 15 doing it myself translating my terrible Digimon fics into English lmao.

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Favourite is a complicated word. All-time, however, isn't.

I've been an Akuroku girlie since 2005 and by GOD I will persist.

(the ship I most wish would become canon, however, is also from KH, but it's Soriku, which I've never even written about.....yet)

14. What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

My Hunter x Hunter Praxis AU.

Huge AU, spanning five years, each of which focusing on a different set of characters, with highly specific references to a highly specific university culture from my country that like two people reading would understand. It's also technically a Reincarnation AU.

Yeah I'm never getting that written.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Apparently, characterization and making my character actions and plots seem believable in the context of canon. Which is good, because I really do strive for character voice matching the original, so I'm happy with this assessment by my readers LMAO

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

DESCRIBING ACTION.

If I ever have to write an action scene, I just don't. There is no combat in my fics, not because I dislike it, but because I can't write it lol.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Have done it. Will continue doing it when I find it appropriate. Helps when the POV character also isn't supposed to understand the language, because then you're just on the same page :D

18. First fandom you wrote for?

Digimon Adventure my beloved <3

(the fics themselves are also beloved, because although they're bad, I can see where I came from and how that shaped me into the writer I am today. My bad fics are a part of me and my journey just as much as my 100k word epics are.)

19. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Pausing + looking off into the distance.

You do realize this is an impossible question?

All the fics for me are... connections, within myself and with the people around me. Writing each one was a battle of finding the right words within me, the joy of sharing little snippets with friends, asking for help and bouncing off ideas. Listening to music and building the plot in my head as I walk, thinking about it as I fall asleep. Pouring my longing, my affection, my grief, and my hopes into these words, trying to connect with whoever will read them.

So I guess I'll say it's "All The Things He Said". It's the first fic I wrote for Daiya no Ace, a fandom I knew no one in. And I needed a beta. Trying to find that beta actually led me to finding one of my best friends, so I'm very thankful to this fic.

I haven't watched your KH streams (I caught part of one live but watching VODs really stresses my attention span, plus I didn't find you until you were already near the end of II) but I was wondering if you had any experience with any of the related Square-Enix and Nomura library like Final Fantasy, The World Ends With You, Super Mario RPG, Bravely Default, Theatrhythm, Dragon Quest, etc?

Nice question :> I'm not as big a Squenix fan as a lot of others, but I've played a fair bit of their games! Time to make a stupid long post about it :)

When it comes to Final Fantasy, the usual turn-based combat is hard for me to stick with, usually, but: - I've watched playthroughs of FF7, I hate Cloud for realsies and Sephi as a joke. The game has a lot of great visual designs and its length was very impressive for the time. I am against the "remake". - I have played through FF15 (more than once). I recognise its flaws but appreciate the characters and interesting story even if it's not told that well safhghaf - I've played ~200 hours of Acclaimed MMO FF14, including the entire base game story, and I recognise it does what it does very well, which is master the classic MMO formula, which is not for me sfahghaf - Also FF Explorers on the 3DS, that one's pretty fun :> - I know a bit about other Final Fantasy games through osmosis and watching other playthroughs like I did with 7, but the info didn't stick as well sfahhgaf

I reeeaally wanna play TWEWY sometime!! I actually have the DS game cartridge, but I just. Haven't found the time and focus for it hsgafghjaf. It seems super cool though, both in stylization and gameplay.

I've played through Super Mario RPG when I was little! I love its graphics style and the funny quirky tone of it, plus the sound effects are so fun!! Wish they'd acknowledge it beyond a Geno Mii costume :/

Also Nier, I've only played Automata but I've seen the entirety of Gestalt (that's the western Dad-ified version of the original Replicant that got a remake a while ago) and love them for their wild world building, extremely tragic stories and how Fucking Obtuse they dare to be, I think that's cool and fun :>

I've never played Theatrhythm, Bravely Default or Drakengard (Except Nier I guess)

I've only played One Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime on the DS! As I understand, it's part of a series in Japan, but this one's the only one that got localized in the west. It's one of my favorite DS games, it's sooo fun and unique!! The mainline turn-based games don't grab me at all so I never bothered playing any of them safhghgasf

I have played the demo of the original Octopath Traveler, which has a cool aesthetic but bored me to no end asdfhgfagshj

I think that's it? I can't think of other major Squenix JRPGs. I like the settings and kinds of JRPG stories a lot of their games tell, but their gameplay often doesn't grab me ghasfhgaf. Hope that was informative or fun or something, thanks for the question!!

What I like most is your attention to detail when you write. You take into account every ounce of what a character is going through or feeling. You take into account where they are, and what they're doing. It's not the most easy thing to do.

You make it feel like I'm there, standing right beside the characters and seeing them as the story is being played out. You don't hold back with the details at all, you know how to make someone feel emotions because of what the character is going through.

From sweet to sad to angry and hurt, it's all there. It's a flavor that I, personally, enjoy seeing. I like knowing the details within a thread, within an idea, and watching more and more flow out of that. It's so nice, because then I can bounce off it easily/

Whether you believe that or not, that's what I believe. That's what I truly, truly love about your writing. You've always been taking me on a journey, any type, with any type of emotion. I couldn't be happier when I read your threads.

That's why they're always so long, because you're not one to gloss over the details, and I truly appreciate that in someone's writing.

ooc: I know this was sent when I sent out the meme for this, but I wanted to take a moment and just gush about you. Not only as my best friend for four years now but as an incredible sweetheart. You put so many details and love into all your muses. I was there when we both were writing Kingdom Hearts how we have been through so much together. I know I say it a lot, but I will always remind you that you are an incredible person. Someone that means the world to me. You've always had my back through so much, and I hope you know that I will always have your back too.

I love your writing, anytime you post anything for your characters, I always hear their voices in my head. From Data to G'raha and everyone else that you write for. I know it took some time to want to return to Tumblr, but I'm glad you did. You have so many amazing ideas and are good at mixing soft with feels which is just amazing combo. You and your work are worth the wait, no matter how long it takes because you matter the most. I know sometimes we get into the thought that we have to be here a lot, but the thing is your happiness and wellbeing come first, always.

I guess I just wanted to remind you that you will always be G'raha to my Stella. The Data to my G'raha and so many more dynamics we have written over the years. I'm so happy others are getting a chance to write with your babies because you have worked so hard to bring those characters to live. While Data may've started off as Data from KH, you turned him into your own. That is your baby, and you've poured so much love into him.

I know you were nervous about writing for G'raha too, but the threads we have on our server to ones on here. You understand his character so beautifully. You get what he is about and how he speaks, too. I hear his voice in all that you write for him. I just want you to remember that their stories are what you want to tell. I am legit about crying typing all this out, but you truly are an incredible best friend, someone that has been there through so much and keeps trying your best each and every day. Just remember that through light and dark days, I will always remain forever by your side. You've seen me at my best and worst, never once judged me, and for that I am so grateful. I love and appreciate so so so much.

If you all aren't following Artemis, please do, they pour so much love into all their muses and are honestly my best friend. Hunter manages to shove all the junk into one corner and make the start of a fairly presentable bed in the other corner by the time the human re-arrives in the Boiling Isles and throws open his door hard enough to smack it against the wall.

“You took my advice!” shouts the human, at the top of her lungs.

“Hiiiiii,” says Hunter, hands over his ears. The human takes a deep breath. Hunter closes the door in her face. “Byeeee.”

There's a lot of lines I've written over the years that make me laugh, but Hunter and Luz as a funny sibling duo…. Every time I reread this fic I giggle at this scene.

OH ABSOLUTELY there's a few lil ones… I think the one I do most often is namedrop other fandoms/charcters? This happens a lot in my KH fics. Like I'll have a TWEWY reference or character show up for like one second and then never again. Just for funsies and also flavor and also bc I love twewy.

Sometimes I will also set up scenes specifically to make readers think the worse happened/some guy died or whatever and then it gets revealed its something funny instead. I do that a lot too djhsfgkj

Oooooh, a lot of readers in Labyrinths guessed the final plot point, which is that Varian will become the moondrop… most of my fics don't tend to have major twists though, I think…? It's a common theme I guess u could say... its a conversation that means something to me and I think it is changed slightly by the context of every story, so I keep bringing it in jhdfgkj

Other things that crop up a lot....Found family for sure! Uhhh the phrase "rolling the thought like candy on [their] tongue" shows up a lot without my meaning it too djhfgjkh

YESSS!!’ Finally beat DDD twice!! So happy!!! Now I’ll probably go for Birth By Sleep?? I guess?? I can’t play 358/2 days bc it’s on DS and only a movie on the ps4 (I might watch it tho idk). And I really do need to finish KH 1. I literally got to the end but kept dying on Ansem so I stopped sjwksjns. But I’ll go back to it >:).

now i’m no translator and speak only english, but i’ve spent a lot time reading stuff from people who know far more than me and im sitting here thinking about AITSU again, so. i wanna ramble a bit about how i tend to divide kh’s translation flubs into two broad categories:

1: not their fault

- AITSU is the big one imo, in terms of Really Important Hints that just don’t work in english. in the time (2005-ish, so not exactly the most progressive of times in video games) and under the constraints they were under (gotta match those lip flaps AND make it sound like a real sentance real people would say), i really don’t think there was a way to convey the intent and tone naturally. it’s incredibly unfortunate, but sometimes thems the breaks. honestly bless all the bilinguals out there for bringing the knowledge to us english-only speakers despite that.

- Oathkeeper. i truly cannot blame them for deciding ‘oathkeeper’ sounds better than ‘promisekeeper’, and given it was kh1 they had no precedent yet for how important word choice would end up being (why i also give a pass for the whole ‘keyblade master’ vs ‘keyblade champion’ thing in kh1). also no one can predict nomura. how would they possibly know that 20 years later he would decide to make the otherwise minute difference between promises and oath’s a significant point lol

2. ya’ll need to check your biases

-all of base kh3 :/

-okay for real tho. making kairi’s offer of the paopu sound like a marraige proposal, turning riku and hercule’s ‘taisetsu no hito’ parallel into ‘what’s most precious’ (sora) and ‘person i love most’ (megara) respectively, and the one that makes me froth with anger, ‘you make me feel strong, kairi’ instead of ‘you’re strong, kairi’

-like are you fucking serious kairi has by far the shortest stick in terms of character arcs already!! and you decided to!! remove what little bit she got and make it about sora instead?????? WHY

we know why and it’s the painful bias of hetnorm

-also xehanorts motivations, which imo aren’t particularly clear even in jp given every fan translation i’ve read leaves me just kinda like. sure okay i guess, gets even more muddied and inconsistent in eng, but i care less about that lol

obviously there’s tons other examples, that is simply the nature of language and translation, but these are the ones that live rent free in my brain.

I've been watching PlayFrame's Kingdom Hearts Story Mode Playthrough...

Fellas, is it weird if Goofy is my favorite Kingdom Hearts character? Unironically, I mean? Like, sure, Goofy belongs to Disney, but like... the Trinity Trio is my favorite, first of all, and second of all, the way he and Donald are handled in terms of taking care of Sora as he grows from 12 to like... what, 16, 17 years old?

I read somewhere here on Tumblr that the Trinity Trio has three brain cells among them, and Goofy has two of them at all times. And just... that's so true, isn't it? And all I can think of when I see Goofy acting so serious and smart and actually taking everyone else seriously despite his silly voice and lanky design and silly little shield, is that... This is what Serious Goofy looks like. This is Goofy in a life-or-death situation. His personality doesn't change completely, that's besides the point. But he displays these amazing capabilities we never see in the silly animated Disney stuff he's officially featured in, and I think that's crazy and good. It makes me think Goofy isn't just his name, it's an affectionate nickname given by his friends because, out of the friend group, he's always the one carrying the backbone of their high spirits. He's the one who keeps a smile on his face, does silly things, and acts stupid, his own reputation be damned. Mickey stresses out a lot--I've seen it in lots of scattered animated clips online. Donald is constantly angry. Out of the three of them, Goofy is always the happiest. Sometimes, he may even fuck with his friends just to make a jab at how the things they're stressing about aren't actually that big of a deal--or if they are, that they're overthinking things and should just slow down.

I guess the two clips I think about the most when thinking about this feature of Goofy's personality is this one meme clip I found of Mickey arguing with Goofy about how "Nobody's here," and Goofy leads him around in this big convoluted circle of "Aren't we somebody? So then somebody is here! So then help us!" And Mickey would be like "No--WE'RE stuck! ALL THREE of us!" "Well, Mick, I hate to tell ya, but somebody told me that there's nobody here." Mickey went off on a string of confused noises and eventually gave up. Then there was the other one where Goofy had this like, infinite ring of keys, of which the joke was that he had a "key to the heart," therefore GASP KINGDOM HEARTS REFERENCE BY OFFICIAL DISNEY?????? Actually, in all honesty, I haven't seen THAT many clips of Donald, Mickey, and Goofy. But even so, I can't help feeling like this really is his personality.

Like somehow, if he was allowed to, Goofy would totally goof off and find ways to make his friends smile and laugh or even frustrate them if he could while they traveled to other worlds--from Donald's general demeanor towards him, at least in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts I, it's clear he's done that before already. But with Sora, not only is the kid impressionable, but if Goofy truly decided to live up to his name, the only "responsible" adult in the group would be Donald, and for all that Goofy loves Donald, everyone knows he has anger issues and isn't very mature at all. So he steps up. When they genuinely need to figure something out--which is most of the time, since the entire franchise plays off of vast abstracts that no one can keep track of anymore because at this point everything is a fever dream--Goofy offers what he genuinely knows, rather than fumbling with words for the sake of appearing stupid for the bit. (Granted, he still fumbles words sometimes, but it's also possible that with such an unusual mouth shape, he genuinely struggles with speaking sometimes, which is also valid of him.)

I never in my life thought I'd make an entire essay overanalyzing a literal cartoon character and how much I love him in comparison to like, the rest of Kingdom Hearts. Granted, the main reason I'm a KH fan is, to be frank, the crossover appeal. I'm a sucker for crossovers and I love Kingdom Hearts for it. Most of the original characters (besides Sora, Riku, Kairi, and because I'm biased, Axel) are okay, I guess... Like, they're not bad--in fact, they're great, and they're engaging and I can see the appeal, but... For me, the appeal of Kingdom Hearts is the crossovers. I love hearing King Mickey talk about objectively Dark things. Man might as well tell Sora, in his high-pitched Mickey Mouse voice, that "Ya gotta be prepared to kill if ya wanna survive, Sora," because that'd be the most cursed, funniest shit I'd ever heard. But unironically, the Trinity Trio is my absolute favorite and maybe I'm weird, but I'm totally a fan of the Cartoon Character Angst we get in this franchise.

So fellas, I ask again. Is it weird that Goofy, unironically, is my top-favorite character in Kingdom Hearts, with Sora and then Mickey as my second and third? (Donald as a close fourth--no hate on Donald, but you literally can't top Mickey Mouse saying "Fellas, did someone mention the Door To Darkness?")

monday - tuesday

made cookie dough, again.

and now it's in the fridge, tomorrow i am going to bake all of them and stuff, and then on wednesday i am taking them to my friend's house for this thanksgiving thing they're doing. a day early because they work. weird to me though, honestly, my family was the same, working on thanksgiving, so they'd do it on friday instead. but i guess no one is really going to ask for that time off, or something. i don't work for a living, right now, so what do i know. anyway i am looking forward to seeing my friends and not looking forward to seeing the guy in the band who wants to be the band, like, the face. i think i have developed a semi-irrational dislike of him but only slightly. i think i might believe he is dumber than he really is. he's like, fine mostly. not harmless, except what if he is, i don't actually know, i can't really tell.

i have to sleep soon, i think i keep writing these too late, or i get into the middle of something when i start them. i was fixing another song, tonight, basically. i think i'm getting closer, it's one of the tones that really doesn't fit i think, too pillowy, so i've been trying to alleviate that, i think tomorrow, before or after i make the cookies (maybe during tbh) i should just try making a new tone, something that has a zappy sound in it, and then getting that to be brighter, i might also wanna mess with the khs disperser and automation to get that to happen.

anyway, a short diary, tonight. the only other things of note i did today was more cleaning, and looking at dolls. i might post about the dolls tomorrow, the pictures i found and who made them. pretty stuff, i think. it's interesting how i really like bjd stuff, especially the art ones and the really nice porcelain ones, but somehow i haven't really interacted w/ blythe dolls. i've seen them here and there of course but never known what they were exactly until more recently, as my friends have been talking about them. i like them decently, i am a big fan of how they're so creepy-cute. but that's the dolls i like normally. i do like the photography and video stuff people do w. them. i wonder if i can find people doing that w/ super dollfies. those are less likeable sometimes because they skew too anime at times. i think it's kinda annoying when the dolls skew that far into anime because at that point they feel like, for men kind of. but some of those are just regular fashion dolls, or more regular. i love seeing stuff from like 2007-8 with them.

But before knowing why is he like this, I was a little confused on why he is like this. His past properly explains why he's such a menacing psychopath,but I can say that even if he didn't have a bad origin,he could've still potentially been a villain

Plot heavy games often have fairly poor writing. They often forget the medium they're writing for. I've heard a lot of good things about the writing in the original Final Fantasy 7, I can't really make a judgement overall, but I can say, for the medium, the format of the storytelling makes sense.

Giving the main character unreliable memories from the start and having them live in the currently unfolding consequences of their past, tying them to the world building, the villain, etc. This is a really clean way to have it play out.

I mentioned Kingdom Hearts earts earlier, uh, and let me tell you, the writing in that is damn near impenetrable. I have no fucking clue what's going on even when they do explain it, and if I wanted backstory, I'd have to dig through nested menus just to read the dryest prose I've ever seen. Not clean, to say the least, but that's kinda not what it's about. KH is about characters and how they feel, and I love that shit. I'm just hanging out with Sora and some weird assortment of ff and Disney characters.

I dunno.

What do I prefer? I prefer writers to know what they're writing about. Don't allude to the better story you wanted to write, write that story! And don't use lore as an excuse to write the current world. The setting is the lore, the character is the backstory, the plot is right now. Write as if the part you, the author, care about is what's happening right now.

gone angels is a beautiful song, one of my favorites in the library of ruina vocals ost after string theocracy and ehem from a place of love. hehe i was gonna ramble how beautiful this song is BUT!! that would be somewhat big spoilers to the library of ruina game HELP practically speaking, the song itself is a HUGE SPOILER even to the title alone, but the song is the protaganist's theme song/boss fight ost (yes he became a boss spoiler alert!!!) and it hurts even more when you played the protagonist's side episode and found out the true context behind this song because it hits like a truck. huhu roland you deserve better

what's interesting about this song is because the protagonist's pages (you can call them skills as well) is named “a waltz in black” while his late partner is “a waltz in white” respectively and gone angels is in a 3/4 time signature, which is often used for waltz songs!! and the irony because the piano (or pianist spoiler alert again) is the reason why the protaganist's life is in shambles and the reason why his partner passed away and the only reason what drives him the most. the song's instrumental is only the piano! you can really tell mili put a lot of care and love to this to match up to the theme of the game. the song can be also viewed in two perspective, the first half belongs to the first protagonist, roland while the second half belongs to the other protagonist, angela. i want to discuss about the lyrics as well BUT!!! thats major spoilers huhu but yes the lyrics for gone angels are beautiful. oh dear im rambling sm please forgive me!! i certainly adore project moon's works and mili's songs vv much (;ŏ﹏ŏ) HELP i kinda spoiled you a bit i hope you dont mind hehe

children of the city is another favorite of mine and another good song from the library of ruina ost! please do listen to it if you haven't. i love the library of ruina ost because you could listen to them outside of context (except for gone angels because that is a literal spoiler) even if you haven't played the game yet. like from a place of love who seems like a song about toxic relationships and the peer pressure of getting married/settling down with a family on the outside but hides a darker and dreadful meaning once you know the context, children of the city seems like your song about depression and not being able to cope with failure and about complete apathy, wanting to change but can't seem to do so. this youtube comment that i found on the official video perfectly describes what the song looks like on a outsider's perspective but also relates to the actuall meaning of the song, which is kinda sad since this is a theme song of a character who wanted to break free from a never-ending cycle he had been living with his whole life only to find out that he has lost his way while doing so and he was the one being played at in the end. all his attempts to ascend in the system and change it were futile and hopeless as the system he was fighting against was omnipotent and stuff.

oh another interesting fact, children of the city is at the same beat/tempo as a human heart! hehe another small detail that i adore!

speaking of osts, i love the kh ost sm!! especially the orchestra versions of the songs hehe i love orchestra vv much!!! they gave me sm joy nd comfort. fun fact, i first learned of kh because of their osts and my first one was actually xion's theme! xion is a very special character to me and haha dyk? before having the name fei/yori, people used to call me xion! and guess where i got the name? right, from xion on kh! i sometimes relate to her on a personal degree (｡ﾉω＼｡) indeed!!! kh is very nostalgic and made the rest of my childhood a memorable one.
