Hullo, I'm new here ^+^! I recently just finished the main story and I'm stoked there's still an active dedicated blog in our year of 2023!!!

Who's your favourite character? Personally, mine is Hanbei (basic, ik) but I'm also a big fan of Motonari and his habit of wanting to retire at every inconvenience (I haven't played his side story yet but that's my impression of him).

I'm also a Kenshin and Aya fan. Kenshin carried HARD for my main playthrough and Aya seems so pretty and reliable 🥺👉👈... I'm low-key in love with her froslass themed look.

first of all, let me say how grateful it makes me to know that people are still discovering and getting invested in PC! this blog isn't the most active these days, but getting messages like these gives me so much encouragement 💜

as for favorite characters, my answer has never veered from the Spectra gals! Nō and Okuni are sooo fun to me, I wouldn't have written a lot of a fic about them if they weren't. Hard second on Aya and Kenshin as well, though; between their dynamic in SW3 and PC, I've always thought there's a lot of good gray space to sink my teeth into

Hello there, my lovely anon! I definitely can do that - I really couldn't come up with solid ideas, so I admit to taking the lazy way out, so have a pretty comprehensive list on what type of Benders everyone would be in this AU! And guys, there are so many characters in Gintama so I swear it wasn't as easy and lazy as it looks! Thanks for sending in a request and I hope you'll enjoy!

Okay, so we're going into this AU with there being the four major bending types - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each bending type is as it is portrayed in Avatar: The Last Airbender, with people possessing different degrees of bending and different skills being present within each bending type.

So, when considering which type of Bender each character would be, I kind of broke it down into personality types and traits and qualities to look for, based on what I figure the 'stereotypical' Bender is for each of the four.

Earth Benders are a little rough around the edges, slow to anger, slow to decide on things, but stubborn once their mind is made up. They can be sensitive and they are often very patient.

Air Benders are gentle souls, respectful and adaptable, changeable. They're fast, both in their movements and in their thoughts.

Water Benders are typically calm and easy-going, flexible enough to adapt to their companions or situations. They're often quite easy to talk to and rather content with their lives.

Fire Benders are often prideful and confident individuals who are loyal, determined and ambitious. They can be very playful and fun but they often also have very short fuses on their tempers, which can be very volatile and explosive.

Keeping that in mind, this is what I figure the characters would be for Benders.

I feel so bad for Okuni now because truly the hate she got really had nothing to do with her and everything to do with bad timing.

The fans were (rightfully) pissed off at how much we'd been snubbed that year, in a game that already loves to snub the fans who aren't waifu-chasers. We didn't know yet that Lancer Ryoma was going to release on the GudaGuda 6 banner.

Okuni herself is such a cool historical figure and IMO was very unterultilized in the event. She doesn't do much, mostly just pop in at the start and save us from Shinbei's onslaught, before joining our team to rescue Ryoma alongside Takasugi, though Takasugi himself doesn't become playable (despite stealing the show , no wonder everyone loved him!).

I don't think she belongs in GudaGuda. I think she could have been either a Valentine's Day Servant or otherwise get her own event to star in. I think that's kind of what she deserved, give her a chance to really shine. She has a really cute design and her animations are really fun, ZanZan is actually her husband. Or rather, her husband died very young and she immortalized him by having someone dress in his samurai armor, and she would interact with him during some of her kabuki plays, thus she was still able to banter with him even after death. That's adorable! But we never get time to learn things like this because she's just a side character in this event!

Anyway more love for Okuni she was never a bad character just they put her in the WRONG event!

The kabuki substory translation is part 1 of my effort to translate a couple of Kenzan things that I've referenced in my fics, and man, I am so stoked to be working on translations again!!

Long-time readers might remember that Okuni comes up in Chapter 3 of my Kenzan fic Like a Turtle. It's a fun story (if I may toot my own horn), and I think it's also one of the most tender things I've written to date despite the fact that it's about a couple of crusty-looking murderers getting way too into turtle-based gambling. I find it neat how Tenka and Okuni have the same fan (I doubt the paper lasted 300 years but the design is the same), but Okuni’s was always shown only partially open because she only showed a portion of her true self when she and Baren used themselves as scapegoats for the villagers’ unease and hatred while Tenka opens his fully and proudly as the “sun” of Oumi like the twins’ mother was. Even though he was hiding a lot, he didn’t have to conceal how much he loved their land.

Prompt #29: Fuse

He had long ago given up on seeing Priarch fuse itself into a singular, coherent, functioning unit. They were mercenaries, a diverse crowd with an equally varied skillset and moral code. Most of them had never been soldiers. He was used to the arguments, at the meeting table and away from it. Was used to having to raise his voice into the middle of it, and to being astounded that a point that seemed obvious and concrete to him generated such a myriad of opinions he could scarce keep track of them all.

If they had been soldiers he would have disciplined them. Tried his best to hammer them into a shape sharp and precise as a sword. But they were not, so instead he simply watched them, tried to learn the shape of them, the things they did best and the things that they needed.

He might have written it all down in notes easily enough:

Edarien:

-Strong magic. Strange magic if the way the others react means anything.

-Lonely. Needs a friend and sometimes a voice of reason. 

Inwa:

-Healer. Trustworthy. Kind and merciful.

-Too merciful sometimes. Needs someone to make sure his own kindness doesn’t kill him.

Louvel:

-Strong fighter. Cares deeply for those he loves.

-Uncontrolled temper. Does not like or trust me. What he needs must come from someone else.

Lyrin’a:

-Steady. Good healer, and calm and reliable in crisis.

-Dislikes conflict. Needs someone to hear him and help him be heard.

Okuni:

-Clever. Quick. Determined. Variety of skills. Magic? Knives.

-Needs to be reminded not to rush into things alone or tackle more than she can manage.

Talia:

-Sniper. Very good. Several other magical talents I probably don’t even know.

-Needs reminders of morality sometimes. Friends. Doesn’t need most of it from me.

Idristan: 

-Magic. Very strong.

-Soft heart he doesn’t want anybody to know about. Fragile pride. What he needs isn’t for me to provide.

Elias:

-Good-hearted. Means best for everybody. Hard to read.

-Clumsy, but usually manages. Not always sure what he needs. Perhaps nothing from me. 

Teagan:

-Fights with her fists. Surprisingly capable. Battle rages.

-May need someone to help her out of rages sometime. May not need it from me.

Latika’a: 

-Hiding several capabilities under several acts. Good when he settles down to heal.

-Needs? Inwa will sort it out.

Sui:

-Healer. Sound insights. Voice of mercy.

-Needs someone to guard his back and temper his mercy. That is me.

But he did not. He kept his private assessments in his thoughts, and tried his best to remember them when they were needed. He might have liked to pretend they would all come together when the moment demanded like the pieces of a puzzle or the many links that together made a shirt of mail. They did not usually. They scattered, they argued, they raged.  He wasn’t certain what held them together at all sometimes. But something did. 

That same something carried them to victory as often as not. He frequently thought that their enemies would truly find something to fear if they ever managed to put themselves together. Sometimes, though, he wondered if they were not more fearsome just as they were.

Prompt #12: Regrets

Prompt 12: Miss the Boat - FFXIV Write 2022  Characters: Talia, mentions of Okuni, Jadias, Caedh, & Idristan.

When one lived their life as hard and fast as possible, regret became a thing that was set aside. There was no time for second guessing choices when every choice might be your very last. There was no room for the mire of regret and the sorrow that came with wondering about the road that had never been traveled. 

Except what then, when someone who lived hard and fast suddenly found themselves not looking at the potential for a few years, but epochs, and millennium. When time stretched out endlessly in front of them, each new day carrying with it an unspoken promise for lifetimes worth of tomorrows?

"...not having regrets, are you?" 

It was odd then, that Okuni’s words still lingered in her mind, moons later. What had started her thinking about it, she wasn’t sure. If asked later, she might still not be certain what had drawn her attention and focus to the place it had decided to linger for the evening. 

They had been talking about the Phoenix King, and Talia had mentioned that she had been propositioned before. That if she had never ended up with Caedh, she might have been interested in seeing what would happen there. Her reply to Okuni, of course, had been no, and it had been the answer that was truest in her heart of hearts. She had no regrets in choosing Caedh. Not now, and not then, either.

"My brother's consort."

But then, her relationship with Caedh had always been an unusual sort of thing. In behavior that was contradictory to everything else that Talia held true to her values, she had refused Jade’s advances, repeatedly. Courtesy, she had claimed. It was out of courtesy for her bond with Caedh. A courtesy she didn’t extend in almost any other way.

She'd kept her original lover throughout her initial time bound to the Night Prince. It was strange even to her, the way she had tried to respect a boundary of Caedh’s that she hadn’t even asked if he had. Perhaps she was afraid of his reaction. Maybe she just didn't want to know he didn't care. The illusion had been nice, while it lasted.

It was funny, how much of her existence was now mired in with Caedh and who and what he was. All that she was as Twilight, came from him. All that she was as a fae was entangled with his very existence. Some of her first experiences with a love that not only took, but gave, came from her time with him. 

It had been a game, just a fae amusement. Until it hadn’t. The fact that their first real meeting had come at the end of the barrel of a gun was still one such amusement that they shared. A thing that was laughed about. That was teased about. That was turned into a friction between them. Him, with the gun to his skin, her, with her finger on the trigger. 

"Take what you want."

It was a funny thing, how close that they had come to simply not happening at all. It was a good thing then, that her instinct and her power knew better than her doubting mind. That it understood what it was she needed even when everything else in her didn't want to allow it. 

Magic sparked around her fingertips, drifted in the air around her like a thing alive. It had chosen for her. It had pushed her in every direction she needed to go. To find who she was meant to be with. To teach her that she could be more than she was. In helping find the fluidity that was so inherent to her nature. In choosing Caedh, her magic led her to Idristan.

"I choose you."

How near a miss it might have all been, if she had made one slightly different decision. Opportunity had almost passed her by. They had almost passed her by.

No. Rather than put her energy towards regret, she had decided to put the whole of herself to gratitude. Some of the best things in her life had come from a road almost not traveled, a boat almost missed. 

Talia glanced up and around her apartment–all locked up–and reached to turn off the light on the wall. The flick of the switch plunged the room into darkness, filled a moment later with the gathering sparkle of stars that opened the pathway for her to go home.
