So for those who haven't seen, AL posted a new Insta story earlier today featuring video of Michael. I subsequently saw this post in the tags and felt like I needed to write something about it:

What obviously stood out and angered me about this was the "chunky Welsh salt-and-pepper boyfriend" in the caption. This seems to be the latest in a line of recent instances of people commenting on Michael's weight/fat-shaming him. The difference in this case, however, is that the post above is directly tied to AL's Insta story. Here is a screenshot of the story, for those who haven't seen it (the full video is linked above):

And what stood out to me here is AL's caption of "Can't take him anywhere," followed by the "You're welcome" (suggesting that we are all supposed to fall over ourselves to thank her for posting video of Michael). Given that the video shows him playing with Lyra in a toy store, this would have been a perfect opportunity for Anna to write a caption about Michael being a great dad, or how much he adores his daughter.

Instead, however, the caption/video is all about Anna, and once again plays up the disingenuous "long-suffering partner of a bumbling man" schtick, which is what many of her Insta stories about Michael have been recently. So when you look at the Tumblr post above, you start to get a feeling for the vibe that her posts/stories are putting out. That if it's okay for AL to make comments about his appearance (as we know she has done for the last several years), then others feel no compunction about doing it, too.

There are plenty of ways to interpret all this, but to me, and especially looking at everything cumulatively, none of this speaks highly to the state of their relationship. The "can't take him anywhere" is another example of AL using an Insta story to insult Michael, to convey that--despite the fact that he is literally very sweetly playing with their daughter--she is embarrassed to be seen with him. When you look at the Tumblr post next to AL's Insta story, you can tell what people are picking up on, which means that these posts and stories are not bringing out the best in her, him, or their relationship.

Again, this is all my own opinion and thoughts, but I think it bears repeating that if someone made a Tumblr post like the one above about Anna, or commented on her weight gain/loss, people would be losing their minds. I'm tired of comments like those and hers getting a free pass because Michael is a man. I'm tired of her making him out to be a ridiculous buffoon who she "has to put up with." And I'm really tired of her thinking his fans don't or won't care as long as she provides new content. Because even though this might just be me, I'd rather have no new content of Michael at all than content where his own girlfriend is repeatedly putting him down...

it’s the way Ryan Gosling plays Ken’s feelings for Barbie for me. because the feelings are unreal and fake in the way of a doll but they’re also intensely real in the way of his actual personality/who he actually is.

#it’s the way he looks at her sometimes when she isn’t looking at him #and it’s just full of intense longing and vulnerability #so it’s that combination that I love SO much #which is over-the-top cartoonish-ness that’s full of PERSONALITY and excess and conviction #and then this core of -well I already said it but INTENSE vulnerability #it’s Michael Scott in love with Holly. It’s Schmidt in love with Cece #and the way Ryan plays it is even more so because he’s a doll and of course in a real way his love for her is not a real thing #BUT IN AN EVEN REALER WAY—— #To paraphrase Michael Scott (!!!!!) #it’s the realest thing anyone in Barbieland has ever known (to paraphrase Taylor)! #like he’s the only one trying to do anything real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #and so for me my Barbie takes are all secondhand #because the story they’re telling has some narrative cracks and weaknesses in it #but also I kind of don’t care because they’re not focusing on the story that is the most interesting to me personally #which is this hilarious icon of a cartoon man who is—somewhere in the depths of his little plastic Ken heart—really in love #and I know it seems like I’m just repeating and twisting what the movie DOES say. that he’s in love but it’s fake and he has to get over it #to be his own person #but that’s only the one layer for me!!!!!! #and it’s a true one. I actually love his existential crisis and the moment where he’s forced to be his own person (doll) #and that’s the best thing Barbie could do for him in that moment #but it only addresses part of the situation —the part of his feelings that are fake. it doesn’t actually see or do anything #with the real love that’s also somehow by the magic of personality there #And it pretends it isn’t. BUT IT IS ALSKKSKSJEJJE #like I’m SORRY but he is just an absolute magnet for her and he’s so deeply responsive to her presence underneath all of the exaggeration #it’s in his eyes it’s in his voice!!!!! like. All of my siblings are amazing at art, don’t even need to try. But I can sing and dance. Hell, I made the highest choir that a freshman could get into back in high school choir tryouts, and then in my second year I was in the highest choir + I tried out for a “show choir” (which was singing and dancing, only 10 - 12 girls could get in and only 2nd highest and highest choir girls can try out) and made that as well.

Meanwhile, Duck’s amazing at art and their siblings are good at singing...

#for me...singing has always been a passion #fun fact apparently when i was like 3/4 years old #and i dont remember this very well but i do have lil flashes of memory but my mom confirmed it with me #but apparently when i was little i actually memorized all of the disney princesses songs and could sing them from memory #could do just the right tempo and everything #i know i would pretend my stuffed animals were the ones singing and not me #but my mom said she would hear me from the kitchen when i was in my room and she said she had no idea how i was able to do that #when i couldnt even count to fucking 50 without messing up #even now i just have to hear a song once and i can get the tempo and rhythm perfectly and it only takes me a few times to hear a song to #*memorize lyrics #oh yeah i also memorized all of barbie princess and the pauper songs too #barbie and disney are why i loved practicing high notes :) #i was a soprano 1 :) #one time in my freshman HS choir class when we were sight reading we had a RLLY HIGH key to sing and the sopranos got a bit quiet but i kept #going. my instructor walked over and was like ''who was that. who sang that.'' and my pal and a few other girls pointed at me #and she looked at me and went ''(lisi). please sing that section for us.'' #i nearly fucking died on the spot i could feel my face heating up #also i had like 4 solos throughout my choir days from middle to high school :) #i forgot the point of this post uh

A child got left with me at work and im telling you. HE WAS THE SWEETEST! He showed me all his paw patrol figures - Sky was his favourite - and grabbed hold of my leg and helped me with all the customers till his sister + mum came back! He yelled out "We're here to help!" while i scanned tickets and oh my goodness!!!! oh my GOODNESS!!!!!! Pure happiness, he made my day. he was so sweet. Theres like a table behind me and he talked about all the stuff on it, and about his sister and gOSH DAMMIT,, i couldnt help but compliment his mum cause im telling you he was adorable and i still havent recovered.
