Jaemin's parents were an elderly pureblood couple that really didn't think they'd be able to have a child. The poor duo were on the brink of thinking to adopt a child, magical or not (they were weren't picky at this point) when his mother became pregnant with Nana

When his parents were younger, they both wanted to focus more on their careers since they wanted to make sure that their future child would be able to have a happy life and that they would be able to have enough money and social standing to be able to give their child anything and everything they wanted.

Mr. Na works for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and Mrs. Na works for the Department of Mysteries but are both now mostly working part-time due to age and to make sure they have time for their beloved blessing.

Beloved blessing = Na Jaemin btw (in case ya'll didn't pick up on that)

For their excitement to make sure Jaemin would have the best childhood and upbringing, these two did their research. As in research. They've asked families, friends, read books, took classes. EVERYTHING™.

Only thing is... Mr. Na was a muggleborn orphan, and so after starting school at Hogwarts, started to distance himself from the people he used to know (not like he can tell them anything anyways), and Mrs Na came from a very long line of purebloods that didn't really associate themselves with muggles.

Translation? Na Jaemin has no idea about anything and everything muggle related.

Like obviously, he knows what it means and he has been to muggle London. But not for very long and the closest contact he's had to someone that lives in Muggle London is Jisung (on the few occasions that Chenle manages to kidnap get permission, from both his and Jisung's parents, to hang out with Jisung for a weekend)

thinking abt the time our middle school science teacher made us write superhero fanfic for a genetics project

Thinking about it now, I'm so glad we don't really have to deal with archie stuff. It was a old long running comic I know, so some stuff were bound to be dated, but geez it was so in love with giving characters blood related family a LOT.

Locke, Sonic's parents and uncle, Sally's family, Tails' family, Knuckles' family, Shadow's family (well really just Eclipse) , so many of it. Not to mention the Future gen stuff (there wasn't even a sonadow kid what a ripoff/j)

But with the movies, shows, idw and even the games to an extent, it focuses a lot on the found family aspect and by god does it get to me. It's just all too good.

the thing about the relative characters is that i dont really hate them but a lot of them just feel. out of place? i remember when i was reading archie sonic it felt so weird to me that sonic knuckles and tails all had living biological parents ?? and i know its not the games so things are gonna be different but im so used to barely anybody having biological families and having found families instead and i love it that way. what happened to sonic being tails's mom and dad and picket fence huh archie

i think the only relatives for already existing characters from archie sonic that im not just kinda Whatever about are locke and max who i hate so so much. and eclipse and matilda who i actually love a lot. and uncle chuck can stay too hes fine i guess

and the future stuff makes me sooo mad i hate how they just threw all the found family themes out the window to make a shitty next gen au. i dont wanna make this post too long so i will shut up for now unless i am asked about it again but My god i hate those arcs

#and i know you said the sonadow thing as a joke but personally i dont think that would have fixed it for me #because my main issue with that whole thing is that i just cant see sonic wanting to get married or have kids at all #actually eclipse and matilda dont really feel out of place in the same way the parents do #probably because eclipse has more backstory and reason for existing and we just dont know much about mighty in the games #so eclipse and matildas existence didnt really feel unbelievable or strange at all #also the found family themes are still present and respected in the stories involving eclipse and matilda #like shadow HATES eclipse. he doesnt feel any sort of loyalty to him just because theyre related. #he prioritized his non biological family that he made himself over the black arms #and with the mighty and matilda stuff. matilda and ray are both portrayed as like. valid siblings to mighty #ray isnt seen as lesser because hes not related to mighty by blood like matilda is #its really sweet actually made me yell when i read it #asks #also i agree the found family stuff in sonic is sooooo good. shoutout to sonic and tails and team dark and team chaotix and mighty and ray #and silver and blaze #and those are just the ones you could actually make a case for in canon im leaving out the characters who are siblings because i said so

(very normal not deranged voice) so do you ever think about how miguel's whole life has been shaped by the dysfunction of his family and how he's always played the protector role and how in atsv, after losing his own child twice, he formed an organization of universally traumatized people like him, which despite its militaristic nature has ended up functioning like a family, a place where young people with broken homes find kinship, and how he made himself the head of it and rules it with an iron fist believing he's keeping everyone safe. but how that, in turn, ended up making him an abuser as well, the authority figure that ends up failing the people he's sworn to protect. how he inadvertently surrounds himself with successful and happy parents while he continues to stagnate at the point in life he lost his daughter. yeah
