uh. but also bloody painter could potentially get a really good movie if done correctly tbh... but idk. visually, it would be really cool since it takes place in the 90s around halloween, so there could be a lot of references to classics of that time. plus, since helen is an artist, there's a lot of potential for some just like. macabre art. not to mention they could tell the story in a way where it's going back nd forth between helen's soon-to-be massacre and the aftermath of his time in the uhhh... asylum? mental institution? psychiatric ward? the place he was sentenced to after his trial. or it can all be told through dr. christopher's perspective and the movie can end the way his story does w dr. christopher sitting at his desk, writing in his journal and he's voicing what he's writing in a lil voice-over and then you just. faintly hear the sound of his front door opening and bam movie ends.

been having vague thoughts lately about how this whole purity culture "ye shall not write Bad Things lest the Children read them and become Criminals" thing started around 2014-16ish, which was around the same time that the Slenderman attempted murder was all over the news (in the states, at least) and I have to wonder if purity culture isn't a knee-jerk reaction to the extremely rare and horrible scenario of two girls with severe mental illness and no caring and attentive adult supports who spiralled into psychosis after scaring themselves with creepypasta (a usually fairly benign activity every teen engages in).

and like, that just makes it EVEN WORSE to me bc a) this is extremely rare and is not the scenario everyone should be cringing around and b) everyone perpetuating this just fell for the pearl-clutching "omg creepypasta makes children kill!!" narrative the media pushed instead of recognizing the real causes of this issue which are the stigmas surrounding mental health, lack of availability of good mental healthcare, the importance of good solid childcare for kids if their parents are unable to adequately care for them, and the abominable state of the school system which meant their symptoms went unnoticed and untreated for far too long, because none of the teachers or councillors had the mental capacity for a seriously ill student.

*deep sigh* it's just....annoying to see such "progressive" people parrot fox news garbage, while putting on their best Christian "think of the children!" displays. and in ways I can't describe it's also....offensive? those people also make big statements about caring soooo much about mental illness, but if you're buying into the idea that these girls were turned into bloodthirsty sociopaths by Slenderman and not experiencing a mental health crisis.... you're not doing anyone any favours.
