If the netherlands has friesians, America has mustangs, and Saudi Arabia has arabians, what breeds come from sweden?
There are a few to pick from so I'll just list them here and I've included some of my own photos of each breed so you can get a better idea of their characteristics. There are no "historical" pictures included, so this is a bit of a departure from what I normally do so I hope people don't mind.
Svensk Varmblod (SWB)
Sweden has the Swedish warmblood which has been very successful in showjumping, dressage, eventing, and even driving. As of 2018 it is the most common horse breed in Sweden followed by Icelandic horses and then warmblooded trotters (two non-native breeds). In 2018, of the top two highest ranking show jumping horse and rider duos, both horses were Swedish Warmbloods (Hanson WL and Albfuehren’s Bianca). The examples below are of two Swedish Warmbloods in more commonplace use as all round riding horses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nordsvensk Brukshäst and Kallblodstravare
The North Swedish Horse (Nordsvensk) is a native breed of heavy horse. It is still popular for riding, driving and farm work. Lighter lines within the breed are bred for harness racing and are registered in the stud-book of Svensk Kallblodstravare, that is to say Swedish Coldblood Trotter. This split happened in 1964, creating a heavier working-type and a lighter trotting horse. The Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish cold blood trotters are the only ones that exist in the world. One of the most famous Swedish Coldblood Trotters is probably Järvsöfaks. He holds the current world record for Coldbloods in wins, consecutive wins (42), and the coldblood trotter world record time, 1:17.9 per kilometer. The photos bellow are of the heavier type (Nordsvensk Brukshäst).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Svensk Ardenner
The Swedish Ardennes is it's own breed and the result of crossing the imported Ardennes horses to the Nordsvensk. The breed was developed in the late 19th century in response to demands within agriculture. They are a medium-sized draught horse breed that are still used in areas inaccessible to machinery to haul timber.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gotlands Russ
The Gotlands Russ is an old breed of Swedish pony. Feral horses on Gotland have been documented since the 13th century, but in the mid 19th century settlers caused their numbers to decline and despite a breeding centre being founded in 1880 there was only 14 left in 1922. In the process of rehabilitating the breed two Welsh stallions were used. The stud-book has been closed to outside blood since 1971. They are good all round ponies that are often used for harness racing.

Pedri x Swedish reader 👉👈
Where she teaches him some of the basics like:
Jag älskar dig = I love you
Hej jag heter = hello my name is
tack så mycket = Thank you very much
And some more (just use google translate if u want more lol)
Then later he scores v Sweden in a match and don't celebrate because of you. He instead says "jag älskar dig" to the camera and it's all over social media. And it's just pure fluff.
If u don't want to do it it's fine it's just that I've never seen a imagine where Y/n is Swedish, she's either English or Spanish, and I once saw a German y/n.
I just really want one where y/n is from my country 💀 but if u don't want to it's fine, love ur work tho 💕
Ok, seeing as the last España vs. Suecia match was literally on 2021, I made up one :) Warning: This is shitty 😭
New Celebration -Pedri González
Summary: When Pedri scores at a game against your country, he comes up with a new celebration
Tumblr media
"Que e'to e'ta muy difícil, mi amor" You groaned a bit
"C'mon Pepi. It's pretty easy, it's just tack så mycket"
"Yeah, not happening" You groaned once more as Pedri kissed your cheek "I'm not made for Swedish baby but still tack så mycket" Your eyes widened as you gasped, Pedri laughed.
You have been trying to teach him for a whole month the basics of Swedish, but he never did it right, always messed up a little bit.
He always wanted to do it right but it was true that Swedish was a bit too difficult for anyone but with practice he could smash it. But you know how was he of speaking in other languagues, it took you so much time to finally hear him talk in English, you were starting to lose hopes for him in Swedish and when he told you he wanted to learn your culture, you went all in.
"See you could do it!" You yelled excited "That was so good!" You kissed him repeatedly "Now say: I min nästa match gör jag ett mål och dedikerar det till min flickvän" (In my next match, I'll score a goal and dedicate it to my girlfriend) His face completly turned into one of confusion and stayed in silence for a few minutes
"... Your mom, by the way" You laughed hard
...
Spain vs. Sweden was happening, after the World Cup knockout stages in 2021, this time it was a friendly match, your now two years boyfriend was playing and he was nervous and anxious. Last time he played against Sweden you were just friends and it didn't mattered that much to him but now that you were his girlfriend, he didn't wanted you to be mad at him if he scored or sad because your country lost, if they get to win, he loved you but he also loved his country and wanted to fight for it as well.
For that he decided he would not score, you told him it didn't mattered that much, yes, you wanted your country to win but it was a game and more matches could come, for him to play like he always did not feeling hold back. You understood.
It was minute 67' when Morata passed him the ball, Pedri was into rival's territory, when he saw two swedish players come to him he kicked the ball strongly. He stood there when he saw the ball hit the net and the Spaniards went crazy, celebrating the goal.
Pedri felt Morata, Gavi, Koke, Kepa, Asensio and a few other come up to him celebrating his goal but he was set in place not believing what he just did. He didn't wanted to score today and he had done it.
He turned around looking for your face in the crowd, he walked over to where you were and yelled a little 'Jag älskar dig', you smiled clapping for him and blew him kisses. He smiled and clapped returning to the game, the feeling of guilty still on his shoulders lightly, he sighed not wanting you to be mad at him for it.
...
"You're on social media" You said as soon as you saw him enter the hotel room, the WAG's and you rode in a different bus than the guys and while they were showering, all of you decided to head back "Everyone loved the "new celebration"" You smiled "You can do it after you "put your glasses on"" He smiled lightly
"I'm sorry" You shook your head
"Don't be" You kissed his lips "That may have been the best goal you've ever done"
"I didn't-"
"I know you didn't. But I did wanted you to" You hugged him "Also..." You kissed his lips "Jag älskar dig också"

Final thoughts on the Grand Final before I'll shut up about Eurovision for the rest of the year...
Tumblr media
The Show
Gotta admit that I didn’t like it because I was hoping they’d be doing more to celebrate Ukraine since they actually won last year. It felt more like the Big UK Show and… yeah, that’s defo not what I tuned in for.
The Jury Votes
I do not understand how a small group of so-called experts can have so much power over the results. It shouldn’t be like that at all. Also: letting the juries place their votes before the actual final makes no sense to me. They should have to place their votes based on the actual final performance. Anything else is just bullshit.
The Official Winner
No surprise here, which is probably what disappointed me the most. I don’t think "Tattoo" is a bad song. It’s just one of those ESC entries that were purely designed to please the juries and I'm sorry, but Sweden does this pretty much every year and I’m tired of it. Like, maybe sticking to more or less the exact same formula for nearly a decade really is the key to success, but it’s also incredibly lazy imo.
I actually feel bad for Loreen, though, because none of this is her fault. Käärijä was clearly the public’s favorite and to know that you only won thanks to the juries who are famously - and rightfully - hated by the public must sting at least a little bit. (Sweden winning right on time for the ABBA anniversary thingy also seems suspiciously convenient, but I don't have the time or energy to go and make assumptions.)
The Real Winner
It’s the boy from Vantaa who cha cha cha’d too close to the sun. (Seriously, though: check out his other songs, he’s really good. And check out Finland, too! It's a beautiful country full of beautiful people who deserve way more credit than they usually get.) This dude has brought me such joy over the past few weeks, I'm genuinely heartbroken over the results. He and his team did their very best, but apparently the juries have zero tolerance for out-of-the-box thinking.
Käärijä won the public vote by a landslide and at the end of the day, that’s the only thing that truly matters, but still. Despite Ukraine’s win last year, rap is still painfully underrepresented in the contests and that’s a shame if you ask me. Like, there’s only so much jury-friendly pop I can take before my brain shuts off automatically.
Who Else Was Robbed
Austria, Moldova, LATVIA, and - and I can’t believe I’m actually writing this because I’m basically conditioned to hate my home country’s entries no matter what - Germany. I didn’t like "Blood & Glitter" as a song choice at all, but the stage-performance was solid. (Welp, at least we didn’t receive zero points this time.)
In Conclusion
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I do believe that Eurovision is completely ridiculous, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore European music and to get together with your friends and collectively yell at the TV in the middle of the night, which is always fun I guess. I had a lot of issues with this year's contest, so here’s hoping that the next one will be better and - most importantly - less predictable.

The more I read about the song and finnish drinking culture, I wonder if this isn't bringing me a new understanding of the movie Another round / Drunk (the one with Mike Mikkelsen). Obviously it's a danish movie not finnish, so maybe I'm completely wrong, and I'm also not sure of what you guys think of this movie.
It had a huge success in my country when it came out even though it was also a bit controversial as some people believe it was glorifying the drinking culture. I actually watched it during my erasmus in Copenhaguen, and the truth is I'm still not sure what to think of it.
I said I had a question but actually not really haha I guess I just wanted to have your thoughts ? Before writing this I've just listened to the soundtrack song of the movie, What a life from Scarlet pleasure and, idk I'm having thoughts
I hope this isn't too long I understand if you didn't read it or don't have anything to say (I don't even know if you have watched this movie). But just so you know, I voted for käärijä on Saturday and I'm very sad he couldn't win :(
Hi! I've seen this film, but don't remember it super well. Still, I'll try my best to give you my thoughts! 😊 In general the Nordic countries (especially Finland and Sweden, but definitely Denmark as well) have somewhat similar drinking cultures. Needing alcohol to break out of our shells, with Finns probably being the most shy and heavily reliant on alcohol, followed by the Swedes (surprisingly) etcetera. My personal take on the movie is that it is some sort of critique on the way the Danes consume alcohol, but also the reasons for why they feel like they need to rely on it. I think it also touches on how easily alcohol consumption can get out of hand and turn into alcoholism, and how easy it is to enable alcohol consumption in cultures like ours, in which it's already heavily normalised. The thing is, over here you may even get shamed by others for choosing not to drink! If memory serves me right, the characters mentioned at the start of the film that they were going to drink alcohol as a test to see how it effects their social performance. What changed for them during the time the experiment was going well was that they loosened up a bit and were friendlier and more supportive, because they stopped fearing social rejection and the possibility of embarrassing themselves. I think that in specific is a sad reflection on how our cultures almost encourage us not to stand out, and to be ashamed of being a bit silly or whatever when sober. I hope this was a satisfactory answer, and thanks for supporting Käärijä! It means a lot. 😊💚

"It’s definitely nice it’s early and I can have a pint while I watch 😂 but I’ll still be getting up at 330 for the next game". Damn you're committed! I don't know who I want to win for SWE-JPN so I'm just going to watch it tomorrow once I know who wins. I'll be sad for whoever loses; I really like both teams. NED-SPA I don't care. - 🇨🇦
Hahah it only happens once every four years!!!! Sweden Japan is gonna be a good one!!! I’m hoping to see Spain play the right players

Re: ESC 2024 hosting because of ABBA: I’ve got THOUGHTS even tho I’m just an American (don’t get me started on American Song Contest that needs to die we have 57 of those WHY DO WE NEED THAT ONE) lol. The thought are as follows: I get that it’s ~tradition~ for the winner to host next year’s contest (afaik it’s not like written in the rules, right??) but like… had they just been HONEST and said “Sweden is going to host ESC 2024 regardless of winner for ABBA’s 50th anniversary” I really think everyone would’ve been like “ok that’s fine get on with the show, whoever wins can host 2025 or have a separate event” but instead (this may just be the American in me who sees corruption everywhere lol) I fully believe Sweden paid a lot of money to get the jury to make them the winner (or otherwise somehow rigged it) and because of that, whether you like her or not, Loreen’s “win” will always seem suspect and luckily it seems like the juries are bearing the brunt of the nasty reactions, not Loreen (whether you like her or not, nobody deserves to be shat on for what the juries did), she’s always gonna have those allegations over her. Do I think Finland should’ve won with that popular vote count? Yes. Do I think Loreen had anything to do with Sweden actually winning? Not really. I really hope whoever’s in charge gets their shit together before next year and change rules to have it actually be fair (ie, if you won once you can’t compete again, abolish the juries and have the popular vote win, etc) because it was FUN this year with unique acts (for the most part lol) and then Sweden ruined it and soured the whole thing for everyone INCLUDING THE PERFORMERS and that makes me sad. It’s supposed to be fun. You’re not supposed to go home hoping your country doesn’t hate you.
Listen, even before the Swedish national selections I've been reading wank to Loreen. I didn't know who she was, because I don't watch Eurovision religiously (metalheads in general think that Eurovision is crap and this year we all were proven it is crap indeed). I heard her song and didn't even remember it for the first time, I totally spaced out when I watched the video. It's nothing special. But everyone was treating it like the highest form of art.
They kept saying she's going to win the national selections, and then the whole contest. I think someone created that hype around her on purpose. So many viewers thought the song was something exceptional, while it isn't. I personally think they pulled her out of her sleeve and created the hype to win it. Because the same strategy was used with Blanka in Poland. Promoting the song on TV, then in multiple countries, etc.
Sometimes shady tactics are not necessary to get high score in televote, it's simply marketing and I can easily see it in both cases here (but ofc Blanka didn't get that many points from the jury, because Poland is not one of the jury pets and we always do better at televote).
The jury votes, I'll leave it to your own interpretation. Whether it was marketing (the bookmaker odds overhyped Sweden to the ridiculous degree as well, it could also be a marketing strategy), or if they were paid. Who knows? There is no proof for anything, but to me the blatant promotion of the song was pretty clear.
To me Loreen is no one special and because of this whole hype around her I just can't look at her, I avoid everything related to her, and didn't even want to look at her performance. I'm not the person to send someone hate, however. I just avoid what I dislike. I love Käärijä, so all my attention goes to him. Indeed, Sweden ruined it all, because without them even the televote could be different. Many people mass voted for Finland trying to beat Sweden (they were probably tired of the whole promotion of this song, too). I think Käärijä would still win the televote without Sweden playing dirty, but without such a huge advantage. Would Loreen be 2nd though? I'm not so sure. Every person I talk to, says that the song is nothing special.
Next year I'm definitely not going to vote. When there's a good song, I'll just stream that artist on Spotify and support them on social media. This year we were proven that even great artists can score very little points, so this whole Eurovision ranking is for bragging rights only. Nothing else than that. Just being there is good for every artist, because they get huge exposure.
So it really doesn't matter if we vote for them or not. It only matters if they go there. That's it.

My top 10 in advance of the final
so. i've finally written and thought about my actual top ten songs going into the final. i've actually also compiled my top 40 and my tops for the semis, but that's a bit late now. i'll do them in advance of next year though!
so, here, with comments, is my top ten for the final
1 - DE DIEPTE - an amazing song, by an amazing artist. i'm british but very into the dutch alt-pop scene (a joke scott and rylan made on tuesday) and when S10 was announced i was so excited. this song is everything i wanted and more - she's changed her style to suit a wider audience, and the da-da-da-da oeh-oeh aa-aa really brings in non dutch speakers, essential for this competition.
2 - MEÐ HÆKKANDI SÓL - wasn't too keen on the first listen (morning of sunday 13th march) but by the evening of the monday i was obsessed. amazing meaning behind the lyrics, and icelandic is such a lovely language to listen to. when this was announced as a qualifier i almost screamed (had to not tho as i was in the queue for a club) as i had prepared for the worst.
3 - LIGHTS OFF - one of the first entries to be released back in december. i had covid at the time, was on day 8 of 10 of isolation, and this buoyed me through the last two days. a great dance bop, the revamp arguably isn't as good but i love the pause before the chorus. she's improved a lot as a singer as well, literally screamed when this qualified, amazing song.
4 - IN CORPORE SANO - watched it, was bemused, watched again, watched again, looked up the lyrics, obsessed. amazing concept, almost performance art, i cannot get enough of this. look up the rest of her triptych, it's amazing. the other songs are called nobl and mekano, and the fact she entered the serbian national selection only to broaden her songs' reach, not intending to win, is iconic.
5 - HOLD ME CLOSER - i don't really have much to say here, it's just a very good song. a powerful chorus? maybe that's what draws me into it and separates it from other ballads for me.
6 - SENTIMENTAI - lithuanian is a beautiful language and it's amazing to finally have a song in it in the final. the older feeling of the song lends it an elegance and from everything that i've seen monika is an icon. i'm mostly excited about the lithuanian, but it's a song that i can't help swaying to. again i was thrilled when this qualified as it was borderline
7 - FULENN - i am in love with this devil-summoning masterpiece. something different from france, and in one of their marginalised langauges, really make this stand out. i particularly like the vibration-esque part of the second chorus, after the "tria' a ra ar c'haoud". great to have some celtic language representation as well, it's a travesty that we've (in the uk) never sent a welsh entry.
8 - TRENULEŢUL - this is another one which came out fairly early. i can't help bopping along to this and i really hope it does well in the final. it's such a jolly song with a serious meaning behind it, and the music video is so fun. not sure what i think of the slight revamp - i will still listen to the original - but i understand why it was revamped for the stage.
9 - SNAP - a non-offensive song with a great staging (that's unaffected by the broken sun). i didn't really pay attention to this until the second rehearsal on youtube, but i really do like it. maybe not something i'll still be listening to in a year, but definitely one i want to see do well.
10 - LLÁMAME - a nice surprise qualifier from thursday. the song definitely works better when you can see it being performed, but nonetheless it's a great song, with great choreo, and we love us some bisexual representation.
in case anyone is interested, my original top ten was the netherlands, iceland, czechia, slovenia, serbia, sweden, latvia, croatia, lithuania and france. semi one was particularly painful - i'd like to have seen thirteen of those songs through (but only seven from semi two)
judge me as you will, and enjoy the final!

reviewing the 2022 eurovision songs
going purely off my first impressions of the videos on youtube.
Ukraine: Stefania by Kalush took me a minute to get into this. i like it once it settles in. equal parts monatik and go_a in a way that is really satisfying to my own personal tastes. i don't think this is a contender, though. will probably qualify but no matter what the obnoxious fans say on twitter i do not believe for a second that this will win because of the war. if it were a peace ballad then maybe.
Austria: Halo by Lumix it's fine, i guess? has the feel of some of the kpop girl group songs that i've liked recently. but i have a feeling this won't translate well to stage.
Netherlands: De Diepte by s10 it's pretty! at first i was like "eh, too folksy for my taste" but then the chorus hit and now i'm into it. i really hope this gets staged well, would love to see it place left side.
Albania: Sekret by Ronela Hajati not for me. i don't like this style of music.
UK: Spaceman by Sam Ryder He has a funny vibrato that I don't like much. it's really like every other uk song recently. bottom five for sure. chorus isn't good enough.
Sweden: Hold Me Closer by Cornelia Jakobs i??? don't like it??? and honestly i don't think it's going to hold up well against the other songs. it's better once the beat kicks in in the second verse but still not nearly what i expect from sweden. also the staging with the green light is really weird.
France: Fulenn by Alvan and Ahez a refreshing french take on a genre that i usually associate with the caucasus countries. big kudos to them for singing in breton. i don't like the drop, but the vocals are really well blended and haunting, especially at the beginning. i hope this does well.
Serbia: In Corpore Sano by Konstrakta not exactly sure what's going on here. it's about... not having health insurance? or something? either way it's too artsy and weird for me to like it.
Armenia: Snap by Rosa Linn not a genre we usually see from Armenia. i'm a little underwhelmed by it. but i don't hate it.
Spain: Slo-mo by Chanel extremely spanish, generically latin american, not sure how this is gonna do, not sure how i feel about it, lol.
Italy: Brividi by Mahmood and Blanco a lot of autotune going on here. doesn't have what excited me about soldi and i've heard through the grapevine that there's some transphobia circulating from one of the artists. overall i'm bored and i think this might place pretty low. a big upset for italy.
Romania: Llamame by WRS peak camp Eurovision masculinity. someday i'll make a post about this. nah but i don't like it. the staging from the nf is good but it's just not my style of song.
Belgium: Miss You by Jeremie Makiese I have faith in the live vocals of this song but there's not enough going for it in the instrumental. Belgium has definitely had worse entries and this might qualify if the staging is good.
Cyprus: Ela by Andromache Cyprus sticking to their guns. This is typical of the Greek and Cypriot entries for the past, like, decade I think? From Aphrodisiac and La La Love to Replay this is something I've heard a lot before. For this reason I'm not so into it. There are other songs that have done this concept better.
Greece: Die Together by Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord Uncertain how they'll execute those close harmonies in the beginning. It's just so... empty for a while? Also, what the fuck are these lyrics lol is she advertising double suicide to save their relationship. I. Decent build to the final chorus I Guess but these lyrics turn me off the song.
Azerbaijan: Fade to Black by Nadir Rustamli Azerbaijan continuing their flop era, I think. This bored me to tears from the very start.
Lithuania: Sentimentai by Monika Liu loooooving the retro feel of this and Monika's voice suits it pretty well. I think this will do badly but I, personally, like it a lot.
Israel: IM by Michael Ben David at first i was like "im not going to review this song at all because i don't condone israel's participation in the contest". but i feel like it's worth saying how much this song sucks. it's eurovision masculinity again but worse than romania. strong start I Guess but like. the legitimization of Israel via ESC is its whole other paper and the song is just bad.
Portugal: Saudade Saudade by Maro once the harmonies hit, it's really nice! but has a slow start. Maro's voice doesn't stand out enough on its own.
Montenegro: Breathe by Vladana I'm bored and I don't like her voice. No universe in which this qualifies. I feel bad because this is apparently about her mom who died from Covid but I just don't see Montenegro pulling this off.
Australia: Not the Same by Sheldon Riley he's got a very strong voice and this is a song that i really relate to. I don't have a lot of coherent thoughts about it but I like this quite a bit. what's up with his outfit though.
San Marino: Stripper by Achille Lauro better than I usually expect from San Marino, and the first song I've heard so far that really seems to be following Maneskin's lead in terms of genre. i could see this qualifying????
Bulgaria: Intention by Intelligent Music Project oh okay, all the rock songs are in the second half of the playlist. this is fine I guess. i'm not into it, the mv is weird, idk it's just not grabbing my attention and (as weird as it is to say) San Marino did better with the genre.
Poland: River by Ochman i like his voice a lot. transitions are overall really clumsy but this isn't a bad choice for poland. although it definitely isn't the most interesting ballad of the year.
Moldova: Trenuletul by Zdob si Zdub is this song about.... unifying with Romania???? no but this is so fun i like it a lot. fun little folklore stuff, moldova has been leaning into the fun stuff recently and they actually do it pretty well nowadays! definitely one of my favorites so far.
Norway: Give That Wolf a Banana by Subwoolfer a lot of people following after Discoteque this year, huh. That's fine - sometimes the weird is good. This is catchy and Norway being Norway I'm curious to see how they'll stage this. Definitely loses points for the lyrics, I'm sorry, what? Wolves don't eat bananas.
North Macedonia: Circles by Andrea Not their worst, not the worst ballad this year I don't think, good build. Not a fan of how the second verse is just the first verse, but again.
Switzerland: Boys Do Cry by Marius Bear Deeply bored by this, musically, but in terms of the meaning... important. Which helps the song for me. But only a little.
Malta: I Am What I Am by Emma Muscat Catchy. I think I like it? I think my overall opinion of the song is positive and I could see this potentially being staged well.
Ireland: That's Rich by Brooke this is fun! fun and angry! love a good angry song! this is decent production, better than we usually see out of the british isles. ireland is taking this seriously. i hope the staging reflects this too.
Finland: Jezebel by The Rasmus damn most of the rock isn't nearly living up to Maneskin. chorus moves too quickly in the transitions in. instrumental is pretty alright, but i don't like the singer's voice, and the key change into the second chorus is weird, and also the "girl who looks like a boy" lyric is a little. questionable. from my position as a trans person dating a trans woman and who is well aware of predatory stereotypes around transfem people.
Czechia: Lights Off by We Are Domi decent Euroclub song. i like the verses.
Iceland: Medh Haekkandi Sol by Systur i had high hopes for this one, and i'm feeling inexplicably let down. it's TOO quiet, and the harmonies aren't mixed well enough in the nf performance. staging here is good, though. i can't see it qualifying which sucks because i so often like the icelandic entries. also i'm not vibing with the major chord at the end.
Estonia: Hope by Stefan weirdly, i find myself liking this. it's a decent take on euro-country that doesn't feel too tryhard the way the dutch versions often do. hopefully he sounds good live and the staging is good. live, this could go either way, estonia's a little hit or miss in that regard. but i'm hoping it does well.
Germany: Rockstars by Malik Harris god ok i hate his voice. incredibly radio friendly song and i think with a different singer i would feel better about it but as it is it's the same boring shit germany has become known for.
Denmark: The Show by Reddi the beginning feels very 90s ESC. i like it more once the beat kicks in, i could see this qualifying or otherwise doing alright but i'm not liking the vocalist. not my least favorite song from this year, I guess?
Latvia: Eat Your Salad by Citi Zeni killer first line aside, this is a good song musically. no comment on the lyrics. sorry, latvia. no but they're okay rappers, at least from the mv, the background track is good? this is better than i was expecting?
Georgia: Lock Me In by Circus Mircus it's weird, but it's okay. will definitely be memorable but not sure if that'll be for the better or for worse. georgia historically has great staging so there's a future where i can see this qualifying.
Slovenia: Disko by LPS this is a song by teenagers and it feels like a song by teenagers. sorry, slovenia. it's okay, it's cute, it doesn't stand out.
Croatia: Guilty Pleasure by Mia Dimsic it's pretty good, it's cute, it isn't necessarily suited for eurovision but i could see myself listening to this post-contest. really interesting (affectionate) things happening in the instrumental.
overall this is a really weak year, i think. not super vibing with any of these. i'll drop my top 10, though (thanks as always to the gerbear esc sorter, keeping us all alive): Netherlands, Moldova, Ireland, Australia, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Latvia, Croatia, Ukraine.

Well Sweden probably won't win 0-5, but they'll win anyway. Italy still needs to get their shit together (and not only sports wise). Having Galli and Piemonte back in the team gives a boost, but Giacinti continues to have problems with scoring. Also they would be more of a threat if they start Greggi in the midfield as well. Also hope that Bartoli's facial injury just looks worse than it actually is. This was just their first game with the new coach, so I'm not getting too optimistic yet.
Just give me a 2+-0 sweden win and I'll be happy

Excited for the wwc? Who's ur favourites?
Sadly I'm not as into the World Cup this year as I have been in the past, probably because most of my faves (And Ali especially who is my favorite) is not involved anymore but I'm still going to try and watch games when I can! The time difference is not in my favor though with the games being in Australia/New Zealand 😂 It also stinks that there's a lot of big name players out with injury...like I always love watching Miedema play and would've been rooting for the Netherlands to do well if she was playing but since she's not, I won't really care about them.
I guess as an American I'll still be rooting for the US though! But I'll be a little surprised if they manage to win this year...this team just feels differently recently and not as dominant as they usually are and it would be their third World Cup win in a row which would be pretty wild. I just hope Canada or England don't win because I think they'll be most annoying about it (fans and players). Brazil winning would be cool, I think Sweden always has a chance too. I don't know about Spain and Germany this year though with everything else that has been going on, especially with Spain and their federation. What about you? Who are you going for?!

i know it's hard to do so, bcz of the exams and all, but enjoy your last year in high school!! i personally felt soooo nostalgic of it the last day because it was such a good period for me (...at least senior year was). you'll see the difference when you arrive at college, but don't be afraid of it. try to see your friends as much as possible because it's hard to keep the friendship when y'all are in different places, so make sure you won't regret losing those moments 🫶🏼
i also hope that!! but it's not much of a deal, as a south france girlie i'm a paris' people hater 🤭

Europa Universalis IV - No DLC Ironman Poland Beginner Run Part 2
Tumblr media
Brandenburg starts to get walloped after I pulled out of the War and has to start making peace deals. Then pretty much every HRE minor in the surrounding area wants a piece of the pie and jumps on them. The Emperor forced them to all give it back though, lol.
Tumblr media
I would have said no to this given the 5% tech cost increase is going to really add up over the rest of game but I didn't wanna get sucked into another big internal conflict whilst I'm waiting for Danzig to fire.
Tumblr media
Wolgast refuses tor return what territory it took though. In the meantime I had to deal with some rebellions whilst integrating new territory. Lithuania had a rebellion or two as well that I helped put down.
Tumblr media
Hungary spurned the Habsburgs and split from them. I was able to capitalise on this and secure and Alliance with Austria. Should be useful vs the Ottomans.
Tumblr media
I also allied Venice because they started the renaissance so they might share knowledge with me. And their armies will again, be critical vs the Ottomans.
Tumblr media
I got a Cardinal and took the Cardinal related Estate Privilege.
Tumblr media
Danzig still hasn't fired. I started annexing my three vassals giving the Estate privilege to avoid the diplorep penalty. At some point I was able to Vassalise Riga (OPM theocracy in the middle of the Livonian Order.
Tumblr media
I really wanted to intervene here but I didn't want to get sucked into a huge war with Muscovy and stop the Danzig event going off (sounds familiar right?).
Tumblr media
Crimea didn't get vassalised by the Ottomans, which is another huge relief for me.
Tumblr media
Danzig finally fires. Odoyev had got annexed at this point.
Tumblr media
The Teutonic Order has a REALLY good ally in Denmark, so Norway and Sweden got sucked into this too, which made me pretty worried to start with. I'll spare the play by play but what essentially happened is that both Crusader Knight kingdoms got slammed whilst the Danish navy sat somewhat pointless blockading ports, and just, not showing up at all. The AI seems to be really bad at using transports and didn't want to push through Novgorod (They may have denied them access? Wasn't keeping track)
Tumblr media
I took Aristocratic ideas in the meantime to pump my Cavalry.
Tumblr media
Frustratingly, Hungary started a war with Wallachia that eventually turned into a full annexation. I was too tied up to commit to helping. If Teutonic Order didn't have such a strong ally it would have been possible to fight two wars so I let this go. Probably a mistake in retrospect, I could have let Venice and Austria do all the heavy lifting here, but I didn't know the AI was going to be so bad at attacking me.
Tumblr media
To makes things worse, Novgorod and Muscovy started fighting too. At this point I had the Crusaders on lock and Denmark had yet to do anything so I got cocky and decided to enforce peace (should have really gone for humiliate rival as a seperate war). This may or may not have been a mistake, because Denmark suddenly actually showed up the second I got into that war. I do suspect it had something to do with military access rules.
Tumblr media
Basically what happened almost instantly after I got involved in a war with Muscovy. I think if I had just gone for a seperate war the Scandinavians wouldn't have been allowed through Novogrod. Military Access rules are things that do my head in a bit.
Tumblr media
Clutch win
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a huge gamble but it paid off, Lithuania won their battle and were able to reinforce in the nick of time to win the one to the south that I by all rights should have lost. I probably barely won thanks to the 10% morale boost I had from spending Papacy points.
Tumblr media
Rip Wallachia. I'll free you eventually.
Tumblr media
It was getting way too hard to fight on multiple fronts and Moldovia was about to finish being annexed, which was going to limit my manpower and force limit, so I peaced out with Muscovy, dragging one of their vassals out as well and hoped Novgorod could use the time and damage I'd done to avoid getting totally decimated.
Tumblr media
The Livonian's finally peaced out. I sent Lithuania 100 Ducats because honestly they did a lot of heavy lifting with their armies and I was concerned about their econ. I military access'd my way across the HRE to Denmark to siege them to make them fuck off at this point.
Tumblr media
Muscovy got attacked by a Khanate from it's backside after it finished annexing one of its largest vassals mid war and that seems to have turned things around for Novgorod.
Tumblr media
I am pretty upset at how much Hungary got done whilst I wasn't able to stop them. I'm unsure if I should be trying to dent the Ottomans or cut Hungary down to size first next at this point.
Tumblr media
One of Novgorod's allies is also going to get eaten and I can't do much about it. :(
much about it. :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
FINALLY OUT OF THIS WAR.
That does it for now. Time to rebuild and figure out if if I'm taking on Hungary or the Ottomans next.

ESC 2022 Thoughts under the break...
I don't know if the SFs lowered my expectations but I enjoyed the grand final and it didn't feel as technically challenged. I also cranked the sound up. And I did find that the PeacockTV coverage was pretty good so I stuck with that so I could get the better picture and sound on my home setup.
Still didn't like the stage itself. Found the hosts only "okay" at the hosting but unless you're Petra and Mans you probably don't want to be memorable anyway.
Overall, there weren't any songs that really stood out on a first listen for me so it would've been a pretty open competition if not for the whole war thing. And I thought everything in the final was at least decent and every single song EXCEPT for Moldova improved on a second listen even if the performance wasn't as good as the SF version (which might have only been Belgium, really).
I don't have comments for every song and I don't think I'll touch on the voting controversy. It's possible Ukraine would've won even without the war going on because their song was at least interesting and Ukraine always knows how to stage their songs. But there was something about its inevitability that took some of the competition enjoyment away from me.
So random general impressions about some of the songs:
Moldova - The song only "works once" with me. Enjoyed it in the SF and hated it in the final.
Spain - I thought they had the best live performance of the evening BUT I cannot for the life of me even remember the actual song. Kind of like "Fuego" with more involved/exciting dancing but with a nothing-burger of a song.
Lithuania - Probably second on performer stage presence for me.
Sweden - I don't watch Melodifestivalen so I don't know if their songs were ever mellow before they turned into what feels like overproduced pieces. It's like I feel that there's a good song in there but all this other stuff is happening that is preventing me from getting there.
Netherlands - Felt like the only song that had any sort of hook.
Portugal - Might have been my favorite of the slow ballads.
Iceland - I find the build/arrangement of this song interesting to listen to - when the bass and drums come in.
Italy and Australia - Both were kind of overemotive. I mean, I did like them and that was kind of the point. Just an observation really. (And I adore Mahmood.)
Serbia - Performance art that I wish I knew what it was about because even the bare minimum that I understood and watching the staging it makes me want to look up what it means. Memorable hand gestures. Effective.
Poland - Reminds me of Croatia's "Lighthouse" from a few years back in that the song itself has possibilities for dramatic staging practically written into it and then it gets staged in some ... like ... if you let me pick one song to restage it would be this one. It still wouldn't win but the staging was ... not good. But most definitely the worst staging goes to...
France - As a first exposure to this song it was just weird in a "WTF is this?" way. Maybe my second choice for re-staging. It made zero effort to make any tv viewer connection to anyone who wasn't already familiar with the song.
Germany - Was like the kind of aspirational/hopeful song you'd hear in a tv musical that a kid just getting into that sort of thing would learn to sing until they found more adventurous material. Not really the ESC.
United Kingdom - I don't get it but I was also distracted and annoyed that the UK had to get extra time around it because of their set. Later learned he's a TikTok. I mean, it's hard for me to judge this because it's the only time I've heard it and I can at least remember this tune and I can't remember Spain's even though their performance slayed.
Ukraine - I'm fine with them winning. I just really liked "Shum" is all.
Norway - Out of all the things that got stuck in my head is the line, "Give that wolf a banana." I mean, I did just buy bananas yesterday and had them with my breakfast sot here is that.
On another note, when it got late and we hadn't seen Mans Zelmerlow make his annual appearance I began to seriously wonder if he was one of the members of Subwoolfer.
Though nothing really stood out I still find most of the show listenable and am actually curious to find out which songs I'll still be listening to a few weeks from now.

historical dennor? 🥺
This is probably as "shippy" as I'll ever get with this one 😅 hope you still like it 🥰
During the Great Nordic War, there was a great deal of naval battles being fought between Denmark-Norway and Sweden. I don't have any statistics on how many Danes vs Norwegians contributed in these battles, but some of the big naval war heros were Norwegian. The most famous is Peter Wessel, who just went by "Tordenskjold" (Thundershield). He was from Trondheim, Norway, 14th son of a merchant, and began his career as a cabin boy on a Danish Ship. He eventually rose in the ranks and became Captain lieutenant on a battleship. He is said to have been a tactical genius, time after time outsmarting the Swedish navy and winning battle after battle. He was eventually killed with sword in a duel one year before the Great Nordic War ended.
He is supposedly very well liked in Denmark, and they buried him in Copenhagen without a seremony, instead of sending his body back to his family. Five years after losing Norway in 1814, Denmark had made a sarcophagus with a bust of him, and gave him a new place in the great chapell.
Norway is very well known for being great with sailing and anything to do with the sea in general, something that Denmark greatly admired and appreciated. Especially when it meant beating Sweden 😉

Day 1 recap: It would have been sweet to see Canada take that one from Japan but considering they've had our number, I'll take it. And how about our Canadian GOAT, Sincy? Just can't say enough about her.
So happy to see Sweden take that one from the US. They deserved to win the last time they played, and left no doubt this time. Still, a wounded animal is a scary one! And here's hoping that Magda will be back soon! I say rest her until it's necessary!
