As someone who reads a lot but has no experience writing myself I didn't notice any drop in quality. It seemed to be the same level to me and I particularly enjoy your characterization of mic and aizawa as well as the added depth from the scene between mic and the repair guy. However if I HAD to give a criticism the part about the guy from when reader was young felt a little too long, the same could kinda be said for the exposition about the mom but that felt important enough to the readers persona that it was necessary. These aren't really that bad but its just a personal opinion!
I still absolutely loved the chapter though it was a delightful treat that I thoroughly enjoyed reading!
Maybe that was the part that one person didnt like, the exposition stuff? I really wish they had left a little more constructive criticism besides just telling me straight up "this should have stayed in your drafts, youre out of practice and i can tell" because how tf am I supposed to catch my mistakes and improve without good feedback 🥺 everyone has different standards for what they read so feedback from all different kinds of people could really be beneficial...
Anyways!
So while it was kind of an exposition/info dump, the part with the Reader having an inappropriate relationship with a stranger online specifically a male one is actually relevant to several things, which if it hasn't been apparent due to the fact he's never been mentioned, Reader's father was not present in her life, and not because he's dead or anything (it really isnt a massive spoiler to tell you guys he was just a deadbeat and Reader's mom had full custody and he kind of just pissed off and will make a brief unimportant cameo in the next installment of the series which will in fact be the last one, at least so is the plan). As someone with personal experience, you grow up as a young girl without a father and it can give you extremely different perspectives on men, especially when there has been abuse, and it can make you EXTREMELY VULNERABLE to positive male attention. It's to sort of establish a pattern of Reader needing a form of external acceptance and validation and how she has her own trauma and mental health struggles, especially in regards to men.
Like idk child abuse or being sexual with a kid tw but I remember when i used to go on Justin TV as a minor like idk probably 15 or 16, there was a streamer I would watch sometimes, his username was Tekker or something, and he eventually started getting flirty and stuff with me and in hindsight he was definitely uh a creep. I was a minor and he knew that and he'd be livestreaming him playing like resident evil and he'd like make jokes about, God what even was it, giving me anal as a punishment for being a smart-ass with him because you know obviously anal isn't, for everyone lmao and can hurt and like WOW
But even with those massive red flags I really liked the positive attention he gave me, like it legitimately got me flustered when I sent him my picture and he said I was beautiful and he would call me jailbait 💀 like I bought a microphone to chat with this dude and would play games on stream with him 💀💀💀 this is a subject I have personal experience with. It's kind of to establish Reader had Some Issues that leave her vulnerable to being manipulated by men and also making poor choices because she has deep abandonment issues and needing to be accepted and loved. So now, as it stands, she is slowly becoming complacent to her situation, especially when you also tackle that with the realization that if she were to get free she would go right back to a way of living that was legitimately making her miserable and suicidal
Like for real the planned ending I have for this story is probably going to make a decent number of you go Oh Honey Why Would You Do That :C
It's fucked up, but for Reader there are actually many benefits to her captivity and you couple that with her captors being excessively supportive and affectionate with her and you have a kidnapping victim slowly falling in love with her captors and saying "im a stupid idiot and I'll never have anything better and no one will probably love me like they so, and I'm a loser anyways, so I guess I'm just fucked, I probably deserve to die anyways, who cares what happens at this point, im too tired and apathetic to fight anyways"
Of course the fate of Reader's mom, which is kind of glaringly obvious tbh, but the exact details of what I will call The Mountain Incident are to be revealed in probably the next chapter or two? It's kind of just sadness porn but, it's another layer to why Reader kind of just fell apart and dropped out of Hero School and was too unable to handle the stress to work. Because realistically she experienced something extremely traumatic and had no support system while basically pushed into the deep end of being fully self sufficient and she eventually just burned out trying to do everything on her own, and then you have Mic and Eraser to the rescue to forever further skew her feelings of "see I'm helpless and stupid, I can't take care of myself, I should just let them make the decisions for me"
But yeah, thanks for submitting your feedback, it means a lot! General reception has been really nice so far and it's so nice to see how excited everyone is for an update and I'm looking forward to hopefully getting more things out soon! I'm just trying to even think of how many chapters are left? We're on 7 right now, so, hmm... at the current rate... I'd say... maybe 4 or 5? And then after this story is finished, I think the best course of action for the final part is that i write a significant portion of it before I upload anything so then that can combat being stuck in a plot hole and putting things off haha. Anyways thanks again!

First Lines Tag
Thank you for the tag @ashesandhackles and @thedreamermusing 🖤💛
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have fewer than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag some people to take part.
It got long so it’s behind the cut.
1. The world did not end in the summer of 1976, although Severus Snape felt that was rather unfair of the world.
-To Soar and to Scream, a Diary Tom Riddle & Severus Snape AU. Snape angst over Lily that is largely irrelevant to the rest of the story, but a necessary framing.
2. Severus Snape was drinking alone.
-When our star is shining, Snucissa. An apt beginning for an angsty Snape fic.
3. In a small terraced house in London, there lived a family of five. As the oldest sibling, Bellatrix Black had always had a bedroom to herself, while Andromeda and Narcissa shared one.
-We cannot thrive in winter, Blackcest. One reader told me my writing style “feels like a fairy tale” (on a different fic) and it stuck with me; I have a lot of exposition sometimes but if it’s well told, exposition is not bad!
4. "Which color do you like better, red or silver?"
-To Close the Parting Year, a Severus/Tom holiday fic. An in medias res opening over silly decorations.
5. The sun was shining and the ground was warm. Two girls were playing in a nearly deserted playground. And although they didn't know it, a small, lonely boy was watching the younger of the two girls swinging higher and higher than her sister.
-Walking Tough, Severus canon backstory fic. Just paraphrasing canon here... not my best opening line.
6. Severus Snape was definitely not supposed to go to Godric's Hollow.
-Not bright or noble, but almost sublime, Severus/Sirius adopt Harry. An effective opening line to orient the readers right away as to what is going on and how it’s different from canon!
7. "I don't trust him," Sirius Black muttered into his glass.
-Loaded Shadows, Severus/Sirius whump. Sirius is talking about Severus, of course. Isn’t this how all Severus/Sirius fics are supposed to start? :)
8. "Please, for the love of Merlin, please put a stop to this."
-Healer on Duty, Poppy Pomfrey/Alecto Carrow. Another in medias res beginning for a fic that walks a fine line between angst and affection.
9. Severus Snape Apparated into an old, overgrown graveyard.
-Two Hours Late, Severus canon-fill-in fic. A kind of unimaginative, standard opening giving the who, what, where.
10. As everyone knows, in a dusty tower in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Book of Admission and the Quill of Acceptance generate the names and birthdates of magical children who live in Britain.
-An Inconvenient Path, Severus adopts Harry and eventually has a romance with Voldemort. Another fairy-tale style exposition opening :)
11. Harry Potter may have escaped his clutches—again—but Lord Voldemort was nonetheless feeling optimistic.
-The Christmas Misadventures of Lord Voldemort, Severus/Voldemort smut. This line doesn’t bear any resemblance to the tone or content of the rest of the fic. Idk about it. It’s exposition/scene-setting that isn’t quite apt.
12. In 1995, Lord Voldemort's resurrection ceremony goes exactly as it ought. After he uses Harry Potter's blood to recreate his body, he leaves Harry Potter tied to the headstone.
-Eternity Is a Long Time to Spend Alone, Voldemort gen fic. I adore this opening! It is very much in the style of the rest of the fic and it packs a punch right out of the gate.
13. Severus Snape awoke with a violent start. He sat upright, gasping for breath, eyes streaming. His lungs weren't working and he was covered in blood.
-Lilith, one-sided Bellatrix/Severus. A fun, sort of twist opening.
14. "It looks so dangerous," tittered a college-aged girl to her boyfriend, fluttering her eyelashes up at him.
-Padre Island, Tom/Severus post-war fic. Not the best opening line in terms of setting the tone for the story - it could be read as a lighthearted crack fic but I was quite serious about exploring the ship in this fic.
15. Severus would never remember how he made it through the next day. He probably turned in an absolutely dismal performance on his remaining O.W.L.
-The Allurement, Severus-joins-Voldemort fic. A necessary setting for the beginning, but not a gripping line or anything.
16. Severus Snape and Lucius Malfoy were waiting on a dark lane, observing a small cottage across the street.
-The Secret of the Philosopher's Stone, Tom/Severus no-second-war AU. A prologue-esque type opening. Bears little resemblance to where this longfic is headed.
17. He could hear her screaming from the upper floor, trapped, but as long as she was sensible, she, at least, had nothing to fear….
-Life, Loyalty, and Love, a Severus/Lily first-war AU. Ugh! Another opening line copied from canon.
Results: a very mixed bag. If nothing else, I appreciated this exercise as it made me reflect on the concept of the opening line and its purpose, along with the strengths and weaknesses of my past choices.
My favorite is a tie between Loaded Shadows and Eternity, because both capture the emotions and beats of the story and are entertaining right off the bat. A super difficult feat.
tagging @phantomato @severusish @pet-genius @maria-de-salinas @snapesnailtape @sketchyblondes with no pressure (this is quite the time-consuming activity!) and apologies if you already did it :)

First Line
I was tagged by @etcorsolus and I don't usually do these but this one actually seems interesting because I love analyzing my own writing lol.
List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
1. He's been waiting for this his whole life.
2. The ascending path to Tor Lara is lit by a pale sliver of moon, the grass so chilled with dew that the bones of her feet burn.
3. In the dark beneath the blindfold, Geralt flexed each sense like a separate limb as he stepped into the banquet hall.
4. Under a sky bruised by evening with the smoke from the war beyond the hills scattering ash across serene farmland, a scarecrow in a harrowed field dissolved into the shape of a woman, lithe and lean.
5. The apartment was dark and silent when Geralt returned from work.
6. Yennefer appears in the doorway to their study, leaning sensually, the apparent “something special” she had promised Geralt this evening swinging from a crooked finger.
7. The first time anyone took her to bed, there was no approximation of a bed, only a knit blanket laid out in a hollow of stone, and she was not taken so much as led with gentle hands and whispering kisses.
8. Afterward, it pours seeping rain for a steady week, a deluge that cannot quite rival the monsoons back home.
9. It is fortunate that the Witcher is brought into the throne room on a day when the young Empress is occupied with other courtly tasks and her court mage alone is minding the daily chore of taking audience with the public.
10. There is a rogue mage making quite a stink in Rinde, said the Council as he stood at the cusp of their circle.
11. “It’s temporary,” said a gravelly, low voice he had never heard carrying that level of nonchalance.
12. In the infant days of their strange relationship, it had taken months of Yennefer’s coaxing and prodding in bed to encourage Geralt to make full use of that mutated strength of his.
13. “You don’t have to fight anymore,” says the calm voice in the haze of the battleground.
14. “Ah, cock,” said Jaskier dazedly as he lay in a pile of smoking rubble on the stone floor of the laboratory.
15. That year, she is late heading north and then later still, cursing the grey swell of snowbank clouds and the ragged tear of a wyvern’s claw that throbs with telltale infection beneath her ribs.
16. Lambert’s silhouette haloed in the glow of the hospital lobby, still and bright and sterile behind him and leaving the little body that folded into itself on the curb featureless in the answering darkness, Eskel’s eyes straining to look at him through the glare.
17. “Oh Regis,” croons the poet who meets him in the entryway, ushering him out of his coat with little tuts and sighs, “oh, you’ve arrived just in time! Just in time. Something’s gone wrong. Just dreadful. Good thing you’ve gotten here.”
18. Yennefer does not intend to kill him.
19. Yennefer was fourteen when she first looked at herself in the bathroom mirror, flecks of toothpaste grimed around the beveled edge, and thought what would I look like with breasts.
20. Her blood remained in the street for a week and a day, a swollen black tar-stain in the dust that boots hallowed and did not touch, and then on the eighth day, the villagers woke to a blue haze of rain that licked the stain red again in rivulets.
analysis
Looking at this, my first lines tend to immediately establish a setting, focused on sense details of the landscape or environment or I also pretty often start on a line of dialogue that drops you right into a scene. There is usually a character name or reference in the first line or first paragraph so pov is established right away. It's also interesting because you can see how much I write in different tenses.
I usually don't... think too much about opening lines but the old writing adage is to start as close to the end of the story as possible. I was taught to lop off the front half of a story with too much exposition but idk that I have actually done that in years. Looking at these though there are definitely some I would edit.
I'm weirdly fond of #17 because it so quickly establishes the silly vibe and because Jaskier is an idiot. I like #16 but the more i read it, the more it is way too wordy and I could have cut that sentence in half.
I will be actually tagging people for once in my life but I've forgotten everyone I've ever known who writes anything aw beans aw nuts please feel free to do this yourself and claim i tagged you (also WIPs or ficlets count i just didn't count mine). @witchertrashbag @stillmadaboutpetra @some-stars @handwrittenhello @penny-anna

A musketeers rewatch (that nobody asked for) 1x04
(warning: not always complimentary towards all characters, especially not aramis, anne and athos. dont like, don’t read)
We start with Louis being a prat and in this instance I love it!
Richelieu is wearing his red robes over the hideous black outfit. I wish it was just the robes.
Athos wonders what’s wrong with Aramis and Porthos says “have you forgotten about the massacre at Savoy?”. This is clumsy exposition. Realistically Athos the character would not have forgotten but I guess the viewers need to know.
“A strategically important pimple” - Lmao! Who says Armand hasn’t got a sense of humour!
This marks the beginning of these strangely depopulated court scenes. I do wish they had been able to afford more extras!
The Duke’s name is Victor... idk how I feel about that
The conversation between Marsac and Aramis is very well written, the exposition feels natural and also Aramis handles the situation quite well.
Now the Duke is mad and everyone is trying to calm him down. Treville points out that they should wait for the facts and Anne says that the shot could have hit any one of them, they are family and should stick together. This is why I liked her back in season 1! She was clever, had some political acumen and was good at playing her role as queen (women being seen as the gentler sex whose job it was to calm mens anger) while still maneuvering and getting her own way.
It is funny thou, how everyone else is making good points and Richelieu is pacing around in a panic not saying anything at first, not even responding to Victor’s insults. And when he does speak he miscalculates and angers the duke. He is brilliant when given time to think and consider, but not always quick on his feet lol (as pointed out by @tatzelwyrm in her wonderful fic Reformation, which I really must remember to review cause I fucking loved it).
Louis calls the duke a pomous arse and Richelieu points out that France needs Savoy, but his face says he agrees xD
There’s definitely some sexual tension between Aramis and Marsac. Or maybe I’m just a shameless slasher...
“If this gets me hanged, I’m going to take it very personally” - lol, I do love musketeers humour!
The scene between my dear grand deceiver and his bluff honest man of action is SO GOOD!! The dialogue, the delivery, the acting in general!
Richelieu’s room is ridiculously large and empty thou xD
“Death in battle is one thing, but your world of back alley stabbings and murder disgusts me” - that seems to be the show’s morality in a nutshell and I don’t like it. Whether you’re killed by Milady’s dagger between the ribs or a musketeer sword, you end up no less dead. Sometimes secret assassinations are necessary, that’s why countries have spy agencies. And while yes, in battle you can see your opponent coming and have a good chance to deny him, I am convinced that a big part of why killing in battle is seen as more honourable is that it is the more traditionally masculine option. Also, it is an option most easily accessible to able bodied men. Everyone else can’t always afford to “fight fair”.
“Not everything I do is pleasant, but it is all necessary.” - well, that’s not true either. Not all.
Richelieu panics again and wants to move the prisoner but Treville says a transfer would only attract attention and Richelieu is like “yeah, you’re probably right” lol. Poor cardinal, he’s trying to run the whole country alone but he needs advisors just like anyone else would to make the best decisions. If he would just admit it, his life would be a lot easier!
Dartagnan gets all jealous and territorial over Constance. I know it’s meant to indicate their true love, but I’ve never found that shit charming.
Aramis ties Marsac up. This is making me horny now.
“I’ve thought of you many times” - omg, I gotta see if there’s fic of them!
Constance finds out that Marsac is a criminal and instead of kicking him out, she kicks D’artagnan out! Bless!
Okay, so the Duke’s men killed the 20 musketeers because the Duke thought that they had come to kill him and put his son on the throne. And Treville told him where to find them through Cluzet (spl?). But actually it was all a distraction to kidnap Cluzet. Noting this down, cause I don’t remember the plot anymore.
PORTHOS DEFENDING TREVILLE!!  <3
And Richelieu just couldn’t resist going to see his prisoner!
And Cluzet worked for the Duke officially but was actually a Spanish spy! Okay, that makes sense. I wondered why they kidnapped him lol.
Richelieu is gloating now. He should have stayed away from there.
“Total solitude, unlimited time to reflect... I almost envy you.” - oh Armand! You will learn in the Spanish prison :(
(yes, in this house the Spanish prison AU is canon)
Porthos: “this is the captain we’re talking about” Aramis: “which is why we owe it to him to clear his name” - damn, that’s a good argument! I like Aramis in this episode! That’s probably why I remember liking him a lot when season 1 first aired...
“If it is true, what then?” - @donnaimmaculata made an excellent point about that here: https://donnaimmaculata.tumblr.com/post/109300936446/aramis-was-actually-at-his-smartest-in-this
Louis playing swords with Louis Amadeus is so cute!! And the kid is a more gracious loser than Louis is a winner xD
“I don’t want protection, I want to be treated as an equal.” - that’s a good Constance line, much more feminist than that nonsense about the duchess later in the episode
And D'artagnan apologizes and promises not to lie to her again. Mentioning that cause his respect for her boundaries and acknowledging when he makes a mistake goes totally out the window in season two.
The duke: “Have you captured the man who tried to kill me?” Richelieu: “We should not be distracted by minor issues.” - what is wrong with him this episode?? he is not being at all diplomatic
The duke challenges Athos to a duel and Treville is so cool and quietly confident while Richelieu frets.
And Treville smirks at his evident distress xD
Treville gets mad at Athos for humiliating the duke. He could have defeated him in a way that left him his dignity, apparently. But Porthos says he would have cut his head off, so Treville should consider himself lucky, really.
Porthos is very good at spying!
Treville’s filing of documents is “meticulous”, apparently. Sorry, but that does NOT sound like him!
“I will never believe the captain is a traitor” - that’s noble of you Athos. Maybe you could have extended the same courtesy to your wife?
The confrontation with Treville is so angsty and well acted and tense! This is the show at it’s best, dealing with a serious issue and giving it the weight it deserves. I love!
It’s kind of sad seeing how in love the duke is with his wife! I hope he never finds out she’s a spy lol xD
Now Marsac tries to rape Constance. Was that really necessary? Like, really, why?? We understand he is an antagonist, there is no need to make him cartoonishly evil, especially by using violence against women.
I don’t know what his friend being a seezy rapist says about Aramis thou...
Dart to the rescue, yawn!
I do love how we are led to believe they’re gonna kiss and then she goes “teach me how to shoot” xD
“Honour? There’s no word in the language more likely to cause stupidity and inconvenience” - lmaoo, Richelieu I feel you
“You think I won’t have you arrested? That you’re above the normal rules of soldiering?” - Yesss Treville, have him arrested! You will save everyone a lot of grief down the road!
Aramis punches Treville in the face! LOL! xD
Aramis and Marsac argue how to handle Treville (Marsac wants to assassinate him) and Aramis just cradles his face!
And then Marsac punches aramis in the face and knocks him out cold! LOL! xD
I love how the duke is actually objectively right in this episode. Imperialist France is meddling in the affairs of another sovereign state. The weak suffer what they must. And the musketeers are not on the side of good by helping the King and Richelieu conceal Cluzet. They follow their orders and work for the state, but the state is, well, not always nice. Just pointing that out...
The duchess looks so cool and beautiful riding into the garrison in that yellow dress with her cloak flapping in the wind!
“You traitor!” Cluzet says to the duchess. Pot calling the kettle black
“Not your average duchess then” - I don’t like this line! It sort of implies that an average duchess without fighting skills is somehow lesser and plays into a long pattern in television when women are only valued when they have “masculine” skills. But I do love her character a lot! More on that here: https://kuningannasansa.tumblr.com/post/100754198434/a-duchess-of-savoy-appreciation-post
Richelieu’s FACE when he sees D'artagnan as the guard! xD
But I wonder what his plan was? What if the musketeers had not shown up to save his ass?
“Paris has a number of excellent places of correction, if you’d like a tour of them all?” - aawwww, sassy cardinal!
He even gives Dartagnan a look of acknowledgement. As well he should! The Cluzet switch was brilliant and funny!
Now Marsac is going to kill Treville, but Aramis stops him, saying there should be a court martial. Well done Aramis, keeping your head! Also, justice! It does exist!
This is another very well acted emotional scene!
Aramis shoots Marsac, choosing Treville over him. It’s sad and tragic and wonderful television!
“I love my husband, very much” - I like their relationship
Lmaooo now Richelieu is already plotting the Duke’s murder xD
Wet Aramis at Marsac’s grave is hot!
In conclusion, there were some things I didn’t like, but all in all this was a very good episode!
Red Guards killed in the line of duty: none
Women fridged: also none! this really was a good one guys!
Best dressed: Constance

Holy shit I just watched Dark Phoenix and it was so much worse than I thought it was gonna be so here’s a big fat rant.
My entire thoughts about this movie can be summarised by this picture:
Tumblr media
But since I need to get some agression out, ladies and gentlemen and whoever and whatever else, here we go:
- FIRST OF ALL, what the hell was the relationship between Scott and Jean in this movie? Was there any sort of chemistry that i missed in this movie because if there was I did not see a damn spark. While in the previous movies I actually liked the romance between them this movie tried to make the romance seem like it had progressed without actually making any progression to actual maturity. You have to choose one of the other
- the mystique “x women” like was probably a good example of one of the worst and crunchiest ways to include feminism into the film and took place after nightcrawler saved someone so retrospectively it just didn’t make sense
- how are you just going to completely ignore quicksilver character who is the fan favourite of the entire franchise basically. Quicksilver was there for approximately 2 seconds and him yeeting away was not thoroughly explained
- again THE REASON FOR quicksilver not being there is that he is injured... r you fucking kidding me, this is a prime example of quite possibly the laziest writing on earth to the most fan favourite character, how did you think you would get away with this?
- it is so clear to me that this movie is a giant and physical representation of everyone who has ever been part of this franchise remake being so over it
- didn’t jean already show ... that she had.. these powers... in x men apocalypse... u know what whatever let’s just move past this major plot hole it seems like we have been doing that so ok (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG I GENUINELY NEED TO KNOW)
- this entire movie passes on information to the audience by telling instead of showing which is the exact opposite of what a movie is supposed to do. Also this telling takes place over every cheesy and cliche dialogue with extensive narration and exposition.
- Jessica chastains character is supposed to be important and drive her and jean’s actions but like honestly super dull and non threatening and nothing was convincing
- the worst part of this film is the untapped potential it could have had with its amazing actors and the storyline of the Dark Phoenix. They could have delved furthers into more risky and morally grey areas such as jean being something other than like a countdown on a Grenade... some IDK CRaZy ThOuGht dOnT miNd mE buT deVeloPmeNt??
-there wasn’t that much that was actually “dark” to me like the title tries to imply. Yeah sure she caused a lot of property damage and killed like a few people but so what.
-the timeline and lack of actual continuity within these movies shows that the people who worked on this film just did not give a crap about this. I’ve tried to ignore the timeline in the past x men films and just enjoy them for what they are but it’s kind of gotten past the point of subtle. This makes the film infuriating.
-the ending train sequence was to me probably the most exciting and well done scenes in that movie but honestly at that point I just didn’t care. Like I loved magneto just killing people but then was like oh never mind you have just completely destroyed his character yet again
-Charles Xavier was endlessly frustrating and literally not a single ounce of the character I actually loved was in this film
-we don’t need every single thing spelt out to us in pure narration and exposition Jesus Christ it was exhausting
-if you are going to completely destroy any characterisation of the actual mystique that comic fans know then you sure as hell better make it work (it hasn’t) and when the character dies you better make sure it has some impact. Oh never mind, the death had no eotiomal weight to it... whatsoever
-magneto has the same arc in every film and it felt super tired despite the supreme acting that we know that fassbender can actually do and the entire film resulted in him not actually having an arc and making sure to destroy every chance of that
- so beast.. the new headmaster is the school who’s entire plot and decision of going against Xavier was driven by mystique’s death and then when it comes to renaming the school, names it after jean instead of mystique who has been portrayed as a symbol in the movies and apparently some sort of moral compass. Again, a pattern is coming through... none of this movie being necessary or making sense
-cyclops (Scott) has no actual personality to him in this entire movie, in fact the directors seem to have done a movie ginny Weasley on him and essentially made him a poster card declaring his undying love for jean grey (which btw again was a really flat Romance) with nothing else and no character development in this film and I mean seeing that Jean is “dead” wtf is this supposed to mean for him
- SO MANY PLOTHOLES
-quicksilver would have been able to resolve this entire plot 2 minutes into this film.. why didn’t he teleport back into the shuttle with jean and Kurt... therefore having time to get the last astronaut
- the scene with nightcrawler where he literally just massacres a bunch of people while ngl kinda cool to see destroys the entire pacifier nature of Kurt that is essential to him and I really don’t get why they felt the need to do this. You killed azazel off screen like they r different characters stop mixing them
- I’m so sorry to the actors and actresses in this film, almost all of whom have shown (Sophie turner, Nicholas Hoult, James Mcavoy and Michael fassbender in particular) that they are some of the most talented people in cinema and you can see that they tried but like how much can you actually do
- and not a single fuck was given about this movie
-what was the ending scene
-surprised that the movie broke even ngl
-you could have done so much better

Hi Tink! I didn't realize how far down the rabbit hole I'd fallen looking through your blog, but I found a post about A Most Holy Man from way back when about how Jensen improvised that bit about the Impala being stolen and you said you thought it was bad (paraphrasing) and I was just wondering why? (I mean obviously murder is bad but in terms of characterization, I guess) I hope this makes sense - it feels like it doesn't, sorry!
Hello!
Yeah, I did explain that I felt this line was out of character and out of sync with the development of Dean’s character throughout season 12-13 and absolutely it clicked in place for me 100% when Jensen said he added this line in that
A. no I wasn’t nuts to have thought this in the first place as clearly it was NOT written as part of the script and therefore the fact that the rest of the characterisation and development works perfectly if you remove this line makes my wrinkles smooth out in deep pleasure as an analytical person who felt this one line totally stuck out like a sore thumb and didn’t fit at all with the rest of his characterisation or the plan of his character development
B. shows again how Jensen bless him can be so on the money about some stuff and yet so backwards and antiquated in his perception of who Dean is in others. It’s like he sees parts of the development but not all and suffocates those parts he doesn’t see/like sometimes because he just doesn’t understand that this isn’t OOC, it’s entirely IN character it’s just that his character had a facade up and now he’s letting it down. He’s played the facade so well he thinks it’s actually Dean sometimes... It fits perfectly with his denying the Game of Thrones line which revealed that Dean loves reading for pleasure and is a massive geek, the Taylor Swift line, leaving Sam when he knows he is undeniably dead, this moment... there’s more, the list is not that long really but they are some key moments where the writers and the analytical meta writers all squee over this exposition of his character fitting all together and all making sense in the big puzzle of Dean and Jensen just sometime doesn’t get because his perception of Dean omits these aspects and unfortunately for him this overall theme for Dean is only coming out stronger and stronger as the sublimation dies out. I say unfortunately because this basically means either Jensen is going to keep having to either change lines while the writer’s out of sight or get firmly told he just has to nut up and do it as per a variety of outcomes for the previous examples I’ve given. As the show is coming to the point where this is becoming more and more common and blatant the latter is likely to happen though, let’s be real. They’re not going to let go of the repeated characterisation and puzzle box of Dean that’s taken 13 years to build just because it takes a few takes to get Jensen to figure it out. Jensen continually tells us he is an actor and not a writer and is happy to let them get on with the job as long as he understands and once he does he’s totally on board (ie. Mary in 12x22) so likely they’ll just do that some more.
Back to the car line, well, essentially Baby is a metaphor for Dean’s emotional state. I think this has been confirmed by one of the writers on twitter some time though I don’t have the exact details but regardless it’s blatant. My tag for it is #baby is deans soul.
Eg. We discover that Dean is the one who chose Baby, not John then consistently we see her as representing his state of mind. When he’s out of hunting and masking himself with Lisa Baby is under a cover (masked), when Dean loses his faith in Cas when he becomes Godstiel Baby is wrecked and his repairing of her is a metaphor for his repairing his own mental state, when Dean gets sent to purgatory Baby is wrecked, when Dean gets rid of the Mark he cleans Baby up methodically and repeatedly, she’s gleaming (in his booty shorts), when they realise the Darkness is destroying the world Dean’s relief is short lived and Baby gets beaten up within that same episode, when Cas is dead and Dean can’t cope Baby is filthy, now that Dean is possessed apparently we don’t see Baby for a while...
So yes Baby is a metaphor for Dean’s soul and throughout seasons 12 and 13 in particular Dean has been getting so much mentally healthier, more open with his emotions, more honest, just so much better overall (apart from his wavering and descent into darkness from mid s13 of course leading to Michael) but in general his view of HIMSELF has been so much better. He’s openly admitting that he has sublimated a lot in the past, then he shows us so much of himself. He goes around bonding with retro kids over doc martens and energy drinks and shows his relatively silly fear in his Indiana Jones moment which is so daft in relation to his usual life. He talks to Sam about his happy endgame. He gives Cas a freaking mixtape. He talks openly to his mother about his feelings I mean Chuck almighty! HE LETS SAM GO! That’s a huge one, he lets Sam go and be the leader he truly is and stops trying to control him. Etc Etc Etc.
Then in this episode which frankly was boring but the META aspect of it was fantastic, it was a whole episode based on what’s right and wrong, do the ends justify the means etc, where do they sit, Sam being the leader again and convincing Dean of the right path and all that jazz, well, it kinda made zero sense for Dean to backtrack to season 8/10 style most repressed angry can’t see the good for the bad just wants to smash everything Dean like? ? ? This isn’t season 13 Dean. Sure season 13 Dean is struggling but he’s generally just so much better, he’s not regressed in that respect that much wowzers. IDK it just felt totally off and not true to real Dean, who we had been getting so much exposition of leading up to this huge flip at the end of the season which was SUPPOSED to make us see how this was totally bad because that’s not who Dean truly is because of this exposition of his character over 2 years and then relatively close to the climax we got this line which was such a performance of angry not-who-Dean-truly-is-but-who-he-is-when-shit-is-so-bad-he’s-lost-himself-Winchester. It just took away from the whole “blue blue blue blue blue blue blue - RED” thing by having a red right in that part leading up to the climax you know? It makes you not see the pattern of how WRONG the red is.
Anyway, that’s why I was very happy when I heard that it wasn’t scripted, because this wasn’t part of Dean’s characterisation or the writing plan at all, which is what takes us forward. The throwaway line by Jensen doesn’t mean anything, what matters in terms of seeing how it’s going to be written moving forwards is what the writers write and that all makes perfect sense. It’s all the BLUE ie. who Dean really is underneath all the crap and that Dean is beautiful.

January 6, 2020
So, about the daydreaming/bedtime stories thing... it didn’t really work last night?  Like, I didn’t wanna just drop myself into a new story and have to come up with character names on the spot so I figured I’d start with a slow exposition and discover other characters slowly so I’d have time to think of their names.  Apparently my exposition was so slow that it put me to sleep.  Go figure.  Maybe tonight I’ll go a bit past that and start with meeting my first new character.  It’s just that, like, making characters on the spot is hard but this is a brain exercise, so.
I’ve discovered this thing about delving into a new style: Is it cute, or am I just trying too hard to fill out my closet?  I’m on the hunt for a black and tan houndstooth wool blazer, and I’ve decided that I don’t want to settle for anything less than what I’m looking for (though I’d probably also go for a black and brown plaid blazer, but that’s beside the point because it’s still specific enough that I know exactly what I’m looking for).  I found one on Mercari that’s technically what I’m looking for, but not really, but the price is also really nice, but I don’t want to just spend money to be spending money, feel me?  Same thing happened this morning with this wool skirt I saw on Poshmark.  Like, yes, it’s 100% wool and it’s in my desired colors, and it’s pleated nicely, and its’s in my size, and the price point can literally not get any better... but is it cute though?  I don’t know???  It could be one of those things that just needs to be styled correctly?  Or maybe it’s actually not that nice-looking and I’m trying to do mental gymnastics to convince myself that it’s cute.  You know, to be frank, I don’t want to buy anything that I don’t have an immediate and lasting positive reaction to.  If I don’t love it now, there’s not a great chance that it will be worn often in the future.  Black and tan wool skirts aren’t so rare that I’ll never find one again (though, as I’ve learned, if I see a wool skirt that I like and that’s at a good price, I should hop on it because it will go quick.).  I know what I’m looking for, and I should stick with that!  I’ll save the purchasing of novelty items for after I’ve got a solid base.
Speaking of a solid base, I’m doing pretty good with my base right now?  I just made a list of all the items that I can think of off the top of my head that fit into my desired style and that I already own and like,,, I’m not doing too bad (not when it comes to winter, anyway (I’m thinking that I’ll need to invest in or make some lightweight, short-sleeved cotton/linen button-ups (and I’ve got a pattern on the way that should be great for this!) as well as some cotton circle skirts and potentially some new shorts (vintage-length so they’ll come down to about mid-thigh or even a low as just above the knee) for the summer)).  I’m still looking into getting some pleated black wool pants (I love the look of one or two pleats in the front, and I think I’ve found a suitable pair on Poshmark) and I’ve seen some vintage-looking brownish-khaki-greenish-mushroom-colored wool pants on Poshmark that could also be really nice.
And can you believe that for the longest time I was afraid to wear brown??  Like subconsciously I didn’t think I would look good in it so I stuck with black as my main neutral (and gray)?  Brown is hot on me, okay?  I look so good in browns.  Like, yes, it’s much more muted on me than on white girls, as expected, but I think it still looks good.  At least, I like the way I look in brown now.  Idk it just makes me happy.
While I’m near the point where I could probably make a capsule wardrobe out of the items I really want to wear, I don’t think I’ll get rid of everything else just yet.  I have quite a few t-shirts that represent parts of my personality and I’m honestly just not ready to let them go quite yet.  Slowly, I’ll start to phase things out of my closets.  Replacing things as I get new ones, I suppose.  Like, I’m expecting a pair of brown herringbone trousers in the next few days at some point, so I think I’ll list a pair of jeans that I haven’t worn in years to switch it all out.
Okay, so I’ve just went back in time and watched the stream where Techno was brought in for execution (great content) and when he discovers Raccoon Tommy beneath his floorboards (literally hilarious) and I think I’ve changed my tune about Techno using Tommy’s situation to bring him to the side of anarchy.  I think what Techno said wasn’t manipulative in the same way that Dream had been.  It felt like there was less of an ulterior motive?  Like, Techno’s whole brand is destroying government while Dream’s is... control, I guess.  Idk basically I think the Techno/Tommy partnership is genuine and cute and I’m excited to see what happens at the ~festival~.
Oh, and I suppose that for the sake of keeping a time capsule I should probably mention that today was the day of the, uh, incursion upon Congress.  Trump hosted a rally today (apparently he still is staunch in his belief that there was fraud in the election for some reason) in the morning, and today was also the day that Congress was to confirm the electoral college votes and we got the Georgia runoff results today (the state went blue!!).  Anyway, a bunch of Trump supporters broke through police barriers and broke windows and climbed up scaffolding to surround and take over the Capital.  Congress went into lockdown, one lady was shot (she died a few hours later), the protesters-turned-rioters went into a bunch of the congressional offices and were, you know, fistfighting the police while wearing Back The Blue t-shirts and carrying Blue Lives Matter flags, you know, as you do.  The police were totally not equipped to manage the incursion, and they called in help from Maryland, Virginia, the National Guard (!! Trump initially refused to send them in, and Pence actually authorized the National Guard, just hours after Trump blasted him on Twitter for being too soft to, you know, defy democracy and overturn the electoral college results), and the FBI apparently.  Mayor Bowser put a curfew into place which seems like it was mostly abided by.  And, uh, yeah.
Watching nonsense like this did, in fact, become a family affair.
I gotta say, the police’s reaction to these white protesters who literally broke into one of the most important buildings in the United States was pitiful.  Obviously I don’t want anyone to get hurt, but it really shows the difference in police reaction to BLM protesters, even peaceful ones, last summer.  Also, it really is something else to be living in an era where I can see the news through the lens of tiktoks.  I saw one that talked about how black people were being put in jail for snatching an air fryer from Target while these people today were being helped down the stairs after breaking into the literal capitol building.  If that ain’t privilege...
Today I am thankful that eyeliner actually isn’t that hard to do.  Like, I know I talked about it yesterday a little, but I’m actually considering making eyeliner part of an everyday look maybe?  At least, I’ll be able to practice while I’m stuck up in this house.

Finding Kurt Hummel: Diva
Tumblr media
Masterpost
4x13: Diva
Hey did you know guys can be divas, too?  I’m surprised this episode concept didn’t come up in, like, season 1 -- but I think it fits well here in season 4, and I think there’s a good Santana story here about her figuring out her shit and getting herself to New York (which should have been the from beginning).  The Tina story, on the other hand, is one that I’m glad I don’t have to touch.
I would also like to point out - Blaine has a shrine to Kurt in his room.  I bring it up because there’s no Klaine in this episode, but there are little touches in the background that shows that the story is far from being over - Blaine mentioning Kurt, the shrine, the edits that cut from Kurt’s story to Blaine’s and vice versa.  A the little things we held on to way back then.
Sarah Brightman in Training
Tumblr media
Yeah Kurt, we all kind of feel that way about Rachel right about now.  To be honest, I think this set of episodes was supposed to bring Rachel down from her high -- which kind of all leads up to her break up with Brody.  I think there’s supposed to be some humbling elements, too, but that never really happens.
Anyway -- Kurt says this class is free sing? What does that even mean? These writers didn’t attend a performing arts class, did they.  But Kurt’s just beyond annoyed.  And you know, I don’t really blame him.  She has got to be one of the most difficult people on the show.
Tumblr media
Kurt, at home, still not having it.  I will say -- roommates are hard.  And if you haven’t even had siblings, though I suppose Kurt did have Finn for the previous year, it can be even harder.
Tumblr media
Kurt back at school, apparently drinking his way through this Rachel business.
We see the beginning of Rachel’s posse -- the two sycophants (did they ever have names?) who follower her around, are bitchy gossipers, and are generally annoying.  How the hell did these two get into NYADA.  Man, the issues I have with this school are unending.
Tumblr media
She’s even having Kurt take her messages for her.  God.  Kurt claims he always knew this might happen.  Man - Kurt needs an apartment by himself -- one of those little shoebox things that might be a tight fit, but he makes it work.  (Personally, the loft seems like an awful place to live.)
Tumblr media
Kurt claims he’s the only one who can take her down - and god were we all ready for that....
Truth Time
Tumblr media
So -- Kurt’s pretty cranky if you wake him up before he needs to get up.  Geez - if you’re going to live in a place that has no walls you have /got/ to set boundaries.  Why Kurt doesn’t seem to learn from this, I don’t know.
Anyway - Rachel comes bounding in demanding that Kurt make her some tea.  Rachel’s so used to doing this kind of thing that I doubt she realizes she’s even doing it.  And Kurt -- well, he doesn’t do well with confrontation.  In the same pattern as we always see, Kurt lets things build, and build, and build (as we see in the above montage) until he finally explodes.
So, we finally get to some Truth Time.  Rachel believes he’s jealous of her success.  I don’t know if I buy that.  Kurt’s had his ups and downs, but in the last month or so, things have been swinging back up.  It’s more as he says here (and in the earlier voice over) she’s become an unbearable diva, and that her ego is a bit out of control.
Kurt then says they became close because she became tolerable.  When exactly was that Kurt? I’m blanking.  Maybe those foursome dates with Finn and Blaine balanced out Rachel’s personality.
To be fair -- I can see Kurt being strict about his regimen and routines, so I doubt he’s really that easy to live with either.  Rachel’s just being more outward at the moment.  And, as Kurt points out, Brody moved in and Kurt is not happy about that --- and she’s got an annoying group of friends that Kurt really does not want to spend any time with.  It’s just a whole bunch of things rolled into one.
Rachel’s really bad at sparring now that I think of it -- because her only rebuttal is that Carmen only let him in because of her.  Which is kinda low since he was so insecure about that earlier in the season, but also untrue.  And Kurt’s wise enough to see through that little bit of shenanigans.
Tumblr media
Kurt, however, knows right where to stick her -- by attacking her performances, the one thing that Rachel prides more than anything else.  He not only tells her that his performance at Winter Showcase blew hers away, he claims he can do it again.  And he drops the big bombshell -- he threw their original diva-off back in Wheels.  That’s right, Kurt tanked the note on purpose to spare his dad.
Rachel can hardly believe this, as she built her confidence around that win.  (Eesh, really Rachel?) but Kurt is offering no sympathy here.  He’s on a mission and he’s determined to take her down, even if it’s taking a big sledge hammer to her self-esteem.
Idk - now that I think about it -- it is really interesting that Kurt is really good at getting under Rachel’s skin, but she can’t even touch him.  Way back in Hairography, she was able to because she knew his weak spot.  But here, she’s kind of so in her own little world, he’s a bit unbeatable by default.  It’s also interesting, as an aside, that Rachel doesn’t believe he’d tank the note on purpose -- cause why would you ever do that?
And thus, all of this illustrates, despite the fact that yes, they do have a lot of similarities, these two are very different people.
Bitchy Gossip
Tumblr media
So, Rachel needs to have Midnight Madness explained to her because unlike Kurt, she doesn’t do her research (plus, you know exposition and I guess Brody needed something to do).  But we find out that it’s basically a sing-off, or an underground fight club for vocal performers, and winners get bragging rights.  And along come her sycophants talking about how awful Kurt’s gonna be.  And that he has a turtle face.  I don’t really see that, but whatever.  Thankfully, Rachel sticks up for Kurt -- because deep down they really are friends.  And personal issues between them are just that -- between them.
Kurt however, is here to hear it.  And he takes them down, a first time, by telling them that the bitchy gossip isn’t going to throw him off his game.  For a kid who’s dealt with psychological terror and physical assault, these guys aren’t any worse than Santana or Quinn.
However, while he puts on a confident face in front of them, when they walk away, he kind of deflates.  It’s not easy constantly having to put that much of an effort in the face of that much judgment.  And having to deal with what he thought he had left behind in high school is still hard, no matter how awesome you are at dealing with it.
Midnight Madness
Tumblr media
So, Kurt’s looking a little nervous as Brody spits out the rules and tries to make it  out to be like some kind of bloodsport.  It’s interesting, Adam’s there at his side as his confidant.  Kurt looks to him a few times for reassurance, which Adam is welcome to give.  Rachel doesn’t really have anyone besides those shallow sycophants.  It’s kind of sad actually.
Tumblr media
Anyway - the song that was chosen was Bring Him Home from Les Mis -- probably because the movie remake had come out around this time, and Glee does that.  But, I want to say how amazing a choice this is for Kurt.  Because here’s a song that is traditionally a male song, but meant for a high tenor.  (This version might have been raised a little to fit Rachel’s voice, but not much I don’t believe.)  Rachel looks a little nervous at the choice.  Kurt knows he has the edge.  And his nerves seem to go the minute he steps up there.  He stares her down and is ready.
Tumblr media
So Bring Him Home.  I’m afraid I don’t have a whole lot of meta to go along with this song, and I’m looking forward to what people have to say about it.  I do think it’s interesting that Kurt has these lines:
In my need You have always been there
Which he throws a look over to Rachel.  And I feel like it’s a nod to the fact that despite the fact that they’re in the middle of this argument over Rachel’s personality, they’ve still pretty much got each other’s backs.
I guess I also find the mantra of ‘let him live’ interesting after Kurt’s already sung Being Alive.  Kurt’s already spent this year trying to be more alive than he was during the fall -- being on his own and okay at NYADA, asking Adam out, taking down Rachel.  He’s putting himself out there the best he can.  But it’s not always the easiest thing.  And as we’ll see in episodes coming up, he’s still got a bit of work to do.
I suppose -- also, I could tie this loosely with Burt and the fact that he has cancer.  This song is sung by a father to his possible son-in-law.  It’s interesting that this sentiment might be reversed.
As for the vocal performance -- I think they’re pretty evenly matched. (That is until Rachel screeches her way into the final note.  God, I hate when she does that.)  Rachel definitely has the technical training on her side, but -- Kurt has come such a long way since they sang Defying Gravity.  His chops are there on this one, and he gives the song something that Rachel really doesn’t, emotional delicacy.
I love that everyone is enamored by the performances - as are all of us in the audience.  Oh Adam, don’t fall in love.  It’s not going to end well.
Tumblr media
And the winner is -- Mr. Kurt Hummel.
I love that when they’re choosing sides and that sycophants join Kurt’s side he snickers a little.  Of course Kurt’s delighted.  He needed a good win on his side.  But it never really occurred to me how much this probably does knock Rachel off her pedestal.  Kurt’s had to deal with self-doubt for a long time, and this validation every once in a while that he’s great is fantastic.  But Rachel is coming from the other direction -- being told that this is the only thing she’s good at.  So when she fails at this, though a near tie would hardly be failing, she doubts her self worth completely.
Take Down
Tumblr media
Kurt doesn’t revel in his win for long because the next day (I assume) Kurt’s walking around with Adam feeling guilty about the song choice because he’s known the score of Les Mis since he was a kid.  Which is funny to me - because I’m sure Rachel does, too, so it’s not like it’s /that/ unfair.  Adam seems to agree and reminds him that he’s an awesome singer who should be proud of that.  I mean, that is why Adam recruited him into the Apples -- not just because he looked cute doing a plie.  Adam is a nice guy, and again I’m sad they didn’t allow this story more development.
Anyway - now that Kurt’s won, he’s also won a bit more popularity (I hesitate to say respect because these guys are leeches).  The two sycophants come bouncing over, completely changing their tune -- and now want to hang out with him until someone else does something noteworthy.  Kurt’s on to them in a second, and he has not time for this bullshit, calling them out about how they’re awful people who need to suck up to others because they clearly can’t make it on their own.  (Wait - how did these guys get into NYADA in the first place?)
Kurt also mentions that if there’s one more bad thing about Adam’s Apples out of their mouths again, he’ll challenge them to a Midnight Madness sing-off -- and they should know how that turns out.  They slink off, licking their wounds.  Meanwhile, Adam looks adoringly over at Kurt, as if before he was like - oh, here’s this cute guy who can sing and now it’s like, wow, Kurt is this amazing creature.  Oh, Adam - don’t get too attached, Kurt’s heart belongs to someone else.
Also, as an aside, it cracks me up at how Adam looks at the sycophants during this scene - like what hell is wrong with the two of you?
Tumblr media
As nice as Kurt finds it to not only take those two down, but receive lots of flattering comments from Adam -- he sees Rachel in the distance and feels that he should probably go deal with that mess.
Rachel’s sulking around feeling sorry for herself (**sigh** fine.)  and in an attempt to bright her day, Kurt suggests they go to the Funny Girl audition together.  She kind of just walks away -- telling him he should go because he’d make a good Fanny Bryce.  (Wait, what? I don’t even begin to understand that comment.)  But the point is Rachel’s throwing herself a pity party and wants to wallow in that longer.
Repairing Rachel’s Ego
Tumblr media
Kurt’s wearing different clothes in this scene, so I’m guessing he’s let Rachel sulk for a while before coming in to talk with her.
He mentions that he signed them up for the open call auditions for Funny Girl (that’s not really how that works, but ignoring that...) and again prompts her to come with him.  She’s whines that if she does get it, she’ll be awful and lose everyone she loves because her ego will be too much.  And Kurt, while rolling his eyes, tells her the same boring pep talk he’s been giving her since Born This Way -- she’s great and wonderful and one-of-a-kind, blah blah blah.  And that she should bring the diva but hold the nightmare.
Tumblr media
Here’s my thing - I know this is the 8000th version of this scene, and yeah, it is getting a little annoying to keep seeing it, but I’ve softened to it over the years.  I do think it’s fair to have this kind of scene if they want to keep Hummelberry as a viable friendship.  I mean, Rachel apologizes, and Kurt forgives her, and they move on, which is great!
But the really nice thing is that going forward Hummelberry as a friendship becomes more balanced.  Sure the narrative is still going to do that thing where it starts with a Kurt plot line and end with a Rachel plot line for a while, but it’s a good long while before we see him being used as a clear prop for her. And she’s going to go back to feeling more Rachel-ish in the second half of the season.
I know people wanted to the Kurt vs Rachel thing to go on longer -- sure, that would have been interesting to play out over a few episodes! But this is Glee, and sometimes less is probably better.
Santana
Tumblr media
Before we get to the ending twist, two thoughts.
1. The whole part of the episode that I wasn’t talking about had to do (partly) with Blaine and Tina, and Blaine asks Tina to be his date to Will and Emma’s wedding.  Which confused us at the time because Ryan Murphy had already mentioned that Kurt would be Blaine’s date, but I’m digressing.  The big thing is that Adam is not Kurt’s date.  This wedding is right around the corner, and I’m guessing Kurt thought it was way, way too early to bring this guy he’s sorta seeing back home.  I’m interested in the New York stuff stays in New York part of it.  But also, I think speaks volumes that Kurt and Adam aren’t really that much of a couple -- that Kurt can kind of leave him behind and not really think too much about it.
2. Brittany mentions to Santana that Kurt found a new guy -- and I know this kind of rubbed people the wrong way at the time.  And I say, first of all, she probably gets her gossip from Lord Tubbington and Tina - both of whom are going to spin the truth.  But more so, it’s there so that the make out in the car is seen as a surprise.  Besides, it’s really more about Brittany telling Santana to go off and conquer the world, not about Kurt and his love life.
Which brings us to -- Santana singing her way to New York and showing up at the loft. It somewhat astounds me that they let Santana stay, I suppose they are both nice enough people, but it’s good for the narrative for Santana to be there -- as the New York side is finally going to get more fleshed out.  Except -- we won’t see it for a little bit because next up is a wedding.  And everyone hooks up at weddings. ;)

12x13 watching notes
I’m posting this but you can pretty much watch my soul depart my body while reading so idk how entertaining it is to read because I got bored, not angry :P
Expectations? Well apparently the subplot is Dagon, who has been apparently by IMDB last time I checked cast as an asian actress, so she's going to die and that's going to be enraging (and it's Buckleming so she'll probably die of stupid, in a weird ass way) and she's hanging with Kelly and Lucifer's baby so THAT's going to be a disaster, so the subplot is already making my brain itch.
The main plot, on the other hand, I am ready to mock gleefully whichever way it comes and expect better than average Buckleming-ing because it's the MacLeods and they like them and put in extra effort. It's going to be like the true Dabb vs cars test - can he wrangle Buckleming to fix the plot hole that's existed basically the entire time I've been in fandom or will it remain hilariously open despite all this revisiting of the past and fixing, like, everything, that's been going on... Are they a law unto themselves or can they fall in line and deliver one of these Dabb-era canon reworkings that address what the fans want to see (aka, no stupid plotholes)? The plothole is SO egrarious they aaalmost pointed it out themselves in 9x21, commenting about how it was bad to keep Gavin from his proper death, but we have never seen COSMIC CONSEQUENCES from it, which are sort of a thing right now...
Though 9x21 has a whole little scene mocking fans, so idk how Buckleming feel but being nice to us is probably their last priority these days and they really do not fit in with all the other writers who are making love to the show :P

Recappy of 9x21 which I watched, like, the day before yesterday, so we're good. I do wonder if Sam and Dean not knowing the exposition of who Gavin is and what happened to him is the plothole already erasing their memories of 6x04.
Like, Crowley has to explain because even HE doesn't remember that incident, he just knows this about Gavin's ship??
Or will the recappy carry on with 6x04...
The good news is we get Sam delivering the line about Coooosmic Consequeeences again IN the recap. This automatically improves my mood.
Nah, on to "What the hell is a prince of hell" exposition without showing Gavin asking Crowley if he was one and Crowley cheekily handing him the title before regretting it and telling him not to ever mention it again, because one or the other of the 3 remaining Princes of Hell may have come for him :P
Poor Cas delivering clearly understandable exposition while bleeding into the Plaid Sofa - if the Princes keep being a thing then we're gonna see that a lot.
Oh thank fuck for Davy Perez and his clearly understandable one line exposition - Ramiel also mentioned the bun in the oven and his sister Dagon in one sentence and spared us clumsy Buckleming recapping of cobbling together a whole montage about this from various hints in the episode.
Listen I've done my rewatch up to where I joined in with fandom so I have now survived the recap of every single Buckleming episode while wryly commenting on it or watching fandom snark about it, and that's probably one of their best because it's so concise I would not have credited them
-
*random generic ghost death after an incredbly long time watching this lady's bedtime routine* After 12 seasons I'm pretty numb to these deaths, which makes all the suspense kind of time wasting unless it's really well done or contains really obvious hints about the plot - ah well, it wasn't offensive and minimally gross on this show's scale, so :P
-
Can't believe Dean doesn't sign off with "thanks babe" when talking to Cas. It would be so easy I'm actually confused when it doesn't happen.
He's out of focus but is he wearing a brand new purple shirt? Also have we seen Jensen wearing this at cons? The colour scheme is vaguely familiar but I may just be getting used to Dean wearing purple. Sam keeps swinging between blue and red (they're in the same scheme as last episode, purple and blue, here) and red and blue are the conflict colours - Dean's plaid has been suggesting unification and resolution especially given the colours he wore to talk God and Amara out of it. Purple is the natural extension of that where everything's mixed... or it's totally other symbolism of purple, but I like contrasting him and Sam, and Sam HAS been wearing red and blue at random, seeming a lot more scattered. And he's not talking to Mary.
Anyway the pattern of the plaid looks weirdly flat and 2-tone to me which is probably a commentary on the writing skills of the duo :P
-
Mary and Ketch are in this episode. It's starting to seem really cluttered but hey I guess they're busy working on something? Could be a random lead in to next episode.
Could be classic Buckleming Clutter.
-
I should stop judging but I would be worried about fitting in a ghost hunt and Crowley, Rowena and Gavin chatting, never mind throwing in a side plot, never mind not just doing basic exposition about what Kelly's up to but making it complicated with another set of main characters >.>
I do like seeing Mary though so
-
Poor Cas being the only one not in the episode
-
Yeah Mary's wearing red and blue striped plaid. Her ring is tucked into her shirt, and she's having fun killing monsters and testing the BMoL's toys with Ketch, who has been a John parallel at the very least for his completely uncompromising approach to monsters. Now it seems he's training her up, testing her to kill monsters (which in this underground carpark vibe place but a ton of dead monsters around her and the implication it's training, makes me think of 8x17 and Cas being trained to kill Dean - is Mary being made to harden up against monsters even more - including family like Cas.
-
I'm sure this will go very well for her.
-
We cut to this because Dean mentioned how maybe Mary would want to work with them. He says they haven't seen her in a while, suggesting that a great deal of time has passed since 12x12 IF that was the last time they saw each other.
(I guess we have a huuuge fan fic gap now so Dean n Cas have probably been together for a few weeks at least)
I suppose all these time skips this part of the season are because there's a baby situation going on and they want to escalate it...
-
I almost commented on Ketch's suit but realised I was about to compare it to Joan Watson because I did watch Elementary at some undisclosed point during these notes so far :P
-
His stop watch thing seems like a gimmick playing off last episode though. Mary and timing - she refused to give up the colt while Ramiel had a stopwatch countdown. Now Ketch is timing her. She feels she's on borrowed time...
I'm sure this will go well for her.
-
Blatant Dean reference is blatant when Mary claims she's hanging out watching pay per view and using the magic fingers. Filed under: ... do Buckleming realise how suggestive that was always meant to sound when Dean said it? Why is Mary telling Dean this. Sam always looks horrified when he catches Dean using magic fingers. THE GIFS OF HIM DOING IT.
Oh well. Buckleming.
-
And then Mary says she's still resting up from the Ramiel thing. Honestly, my BFF might be shipping Mary and Cas to my despair but think about Sam and Dean - their mom and BFF are constantly not around and complaining about no leads on the case, just, like, resting up...
"You're an excellent liar, Mary" It is a family thing.
Has Ketch REALLY, REALLY never been told, put 2 and 2 together or otherwise had it made clear to him that Sam and Dean don't know Mary is working with them? Sure Sam and Dean saw them help in 12x09 but there's something different between calling for help and accepting the proposal and they KNOW they'd be suspicious to work with them after Toni
(Poor Toni, character assassinated in 2 episodes by Buckleming, who are now explaining her away as a rogue operative because they made her go past a point of no return and now she's been ditched from the story... Imagine if that happened happened and she was still allowed to be around without the very well-justified reason she's now the face of the BMoL torturing Sam and Dean and can't be allowed near them. And we thought from 12x01 she had a ton of potential to be interesting and nuanced and all... Argh)
Anyway this makes it very clear they're untrustworthy to work with because of the way they have to be all unsubtle about Ketch thinking that Toni went too far when SHE thinks HE's the psycho.
-
"So... drink?" Oh, they're dating now I guess
-
Huh, Crowley. Randomly. Whyyy.
I mean, why didn't they give him an episode to be all weird and sketchy about having Lucifer in his basement while dealing with his family nonsense without SHOWING him having Lucifer in his basement? 12x12 was slick but obviously did not have time to focus on that... Following it with what should be a Crowley-related fluff family episode about Gavin being useless and dorky (I assume. I watched 9x21 too recently and I'm helplessly attached to the doofus again) and Crowley, well, we could have shown him, like Mary being sketchy about the BMoL or Cas in season 6 being sketchy about working with Crowley, just kind of... itchy about time and what he can do and generally having a load of tells something's up... Keep Lucifer out of the episode entirely and focus on Crowley's emotional state to sort of retroactively add the emotional stuff that had to be left out for time and drama last time.
Like, 12x12 was so full on, you need a REST episode after which you think Gavin's return would be perfect MacLeod fluff, and we keep Lucifer away
But nah he's here so suddenly we have to see him and see Crowley interacting with him, and all that subtle menace and whatever from the end of 12x12 evaporates because we're just leaping right in. We shouldn't have seen Crowley until whatever brings him to hang out with the rest of the MacLeods later in the episode (as I'm pretty sure we saw them doing in a promo)
Ugh. :P
-
Maybe I'm just being picky but I did NOT want to see Lucifer again immediately, and Crowley keeping that secret, and sure WE know he has Lucifer in his basement but no one else does so now we know Crowley's secret, tell it like he has one! Don't show us more!! LESS IS MORE
-
Also whenever Crowley lectures Lucifer it just reeks of hubris like this is going to blow up in Crowley's face and now it feels like it's going to Buckleming up in his face instead of the more subtle way it could have gone.
Since they're now explaining how Crowley stole a Lucifer for himself.
Maybe Rowena knows he has him but in that case you think they'd use 12x11 to hint there's more Dean doesn't remember or shouldn't remember, OR have Rowena tease him on screen that she knows stuff he'd die to know if only he knew he had to know it :P
-
Oh, nope, he just sabotaged it somehow. Even Rowena doesn't know.
-
I know I have a lot of headaches pretty much permanently but there's one that shows up in a little line just above my eye that I'm sure is tuned only to the frequency of Buckleming episodes and only shows up when I watch one.
I'm burning a candle to ward off evil spirits.
-
Didn't work
Just keysmashed at Mittens and went to go get another cup of tea. Buckleming... Pls. we're 5 minutes into the episode.
I mean in the interest of explaining random things that fans might complain about, explaining why Lucifer is Nick again is... I suppose... an effort...
I SUPPOSE it interests Crowley to collect everything remotely useful connected to Lucifer.
His diary for the week after Swan Song is packed.
I mean we always knew he was snooping around doing various behind the scenes things, but aside from anything else that's too much ass-pulling by saying Crowley did this Crowley did that 6-7 years ago in a row.
Not sure I can look directly at the rest of anything else that happened in the last minute of screen time :P
-
Lucifer snarks about how stupid this all is. Including also pointing out something that was bugging me that I wasn't going to mention, that Crowley isn't even keeping Lucifer down in Hell where he can be SOMEWHAT contained, but he's got him surface level in his usual dingy rooms.
That comment is just inserting an eye roll :P
-
Dean is suspicious about Mary's motives for being busy, while Sam is eager to explain it away, which I'm not even sure is flipping their positions about it or not, because Dean has been grumpy about Mary not wanting to hang out with them, but Sam was explaining THAT away too, so he mostly seems to be reacting to what Dean says in defence of Mary, which I guess may be making him less critical of her actions as he's getting to them through the filter of Dean complaining about her staying away or being weird. But of the 2 of them (while Cas has a few more reasons to be suspicious than her sons as of 12x12) Sam has more reason to seem suspicious of her because he was the one asking Mary how she was and asking Mary what SHE got them into last time.
-
Maybe they're both sort of suspicious but beither wants to commit.
-
Oh god we don't have to watch a guy die while he's peeing do we?
-
oh good >.> He's just going to die randomly in this creepy bathroom
Does he have no preservation instinct
-
Did Sam just say something about ADHD ghosts? Or was it something else and my hearing is messed up? It honestly barely makes sense in context because he was talking about how there's just a ton of haunted stuff at museums but obviously most of them don't seem to be aggressively haunted like this. (And I think it's a nice detail to assume that there's a lot of potential ghost activity at museums given they're ancient artefact-collecting places and those are the exact sort of things that might have a spirit attached.
maybe he said ancient ghosts.
Maybe I will assume he did even if it turns out to be "ADHD" when someone finds the captions for it because that makes more sense >.>
-
*Dean messes with some priceless artefact weapons and we cringe as he drops them and wonder if this is a metaphor for Buckleming handling canon*
-
Okay one small good thing: Dean remembers the detail about Gavin's ship.
Whether this is because Crowley told them or Bobby told them, I have no fucking clue but 6x04 only exists if Gavin is slam dunked back into his watery grave, so. Probably Crowley.
Anyway yay Dean's photographic memory.
-
I actually had to go check with Mittens and demand spoilers if this ever gets addressed and fucking hell Crowley thinks the Winchesters actually killed the Nephilim already what the fuck what the fuck WHAT THE FUCK
-
Fortunately on that note it's dinner time and I'm putting 7x20 on.
-
Oh my god Crowley thinks the Winchesters killed the Nephilim??? THEY WERE ARRESTED MOMENTS LATER
HOW DO YOU FUCK UP SO BADLY YOU PUT PLOTHOLES IN YOUR OWN WRITING FROM LITERALLY THE LAST TIME YOU WROTE FOR THIS SHOW?
Does he think Cas did it??
he maaagically knows EVERYTHING ELSE THAT HAPPENS EVER INCLUDING ANY PLOTHOLE FROM 10 YEARS AGO THEY WANT TO FILL
HOW
-
Why did Crowley have this conversation in the same room as Lucifer and not even try to hide what he was talking about from him?
unrelated side note: why did Crowley think Sam and Dean killed the baby?
-
Why did Lucifer say "Oh my dad" now the entire fandom has to stop making that joke ironically
-
maybe if I don't comment on this plotline at all it doesn't happen
-
Anyway! Sam and Dean stay at the museum overnight for some reason. Guess they really like the movies. Anyway they smuggled a Rowena in  with them. I should probably just stop asking questions at this point.
-
Sam has also decided to stop wearing his jacket and is distractingly beefy and this is not coming lightly from me, a person who has never really objectified Sam ever except for maybe a little in season 7 when he has that hair and sideburns combo
I clearly need something to distract me here :P
-
Also the last scene involved a lingering close up of a lady's chest. In a coat, but still. Dodgy camerawork to accompany everything else.
-
*Sam casually manhandles Rowena and pfft I don't wanna ship it but yikes it's a messed up brilliant ship for Sam*
Dean has already kind of decided Rowena is OK, but Sam still has some serious issues and is also apparently grabby with her and well, 10x19 is still a thing, and... just gimme witch Sam already
-
Oh yep there's Dagon. Now don't die. Already killed the angel in the black vessel, so this is all going well >.>
Blah blah usual line about demons being more sympathetic than angels and Lucifer is just misunderstood. Dagon's pretty cool but she is just reciting pretty much word for word other lines about Lucifer or angels or demons that other characters have already said in more dramatic and weighty episodes.
She does seem more sympathetic about the whole Lucifer's baby thing than anyone else so far.
Also how did random angels track Kelly when Cas couldn't
Also how did Dagon track her etc
The wide shot reveals the absolutely standard boots for female characters on TV which I started noticing and getting bemused about in Person of Interest and then I realised badasses like Parker wore them in Leverage, and now I can't stop seeing the everywhere on Action Female Characters I guess because there's a certain amount of high heel where you can kick butt and still run around. They still seem really unpractical compared to wearing non-heeled shoes but I suppose they're the limit for actresses who have to wear them all day. Eh.
Anyway Dagon seems nice and they have the same taste in boots so I guess they can be BFFs now.
-
Oh my god we're past the midway point of the episode and finally we get to the promo scene which seemed like it had been at the start of the episode.
Nice to see this is getting the appropriate amount of emotional weight.
At least Dean's wearing his Cas plaid/plaid that looks like the sofa/TFW plaid
Sam is back in red.
-
GAVIIIIIIIN
-
I like how they said Crowley was sick to get him here... Crowley is kinda fucked over but not in that way.
Also what a gullible cookie to believe Crowley might get sick.
he doesn't know aaanything
-
"That's my ship!" "should've been"
YEAH GAVIN GET ON THAT SHIP
-
He's so sweet. "Oooh! There's Mr MacCallum(?)'s hook! Had no hand, ye see."
I feel weirdly proud of him
-
Oh wow I'm Rowena in this scene
-
Boooooring he had a girlfriend
-
I mean I still love and support him but I am disappointed because 9x21 had that ambiguous guy who seemed to feel right at home in Gavin's one-bed room and assumed they were hooking up with Abaddon
oh well maybe Gavin thought he was single again what with the going to America thing/things had been complicated because of this guy and they were going to America together and Gavin retroactively was already feeling reeeeeally guilty about it before this all came back to - heh - haunt him. Maybe that's why he thought he was going to Hell - he was fucking off to America with his boyfriend after dumping Fiona because he was worried to take her with him for justifiable reasons about ship safety.
-
SNOW
-
I think there was some earlier in the dark but it was boring and dark
-
Also hi I never see snow :P
-
Mr Ketch still pestering Mary for a drink. He's really into her. Goes and brings up her kids though "It might be best if you were to... disengage from them, for a bit." - dude, that's all she's done all season
Oh look and her ring's back out in plain sight. (She's also wearing a grey plaid - totally drained of colour - "nothing comes before my family"
Oh he's REALLY hitting on her now, telling her she's the best hunter he's ever seen and she might play at being mummy, but blah blah blatant Mark of Cain Dean parallels about blade in her hand blood in the air that's the real you
"The best you"
And yeah all that same paralleling about how it scares her to be a killer etc that Dean goes through
As well as the "you play at - " phrasing that was so horrible levelled at Cas in 9x22 about playing at being one of the angels.
-
This random museum lady has a ring on her necklace. She hasn't really done enough to be a Mary mirror?
Maybe things will change. At least for now she's just misplaced part of her exhibit because ghosts :P
-
Pretty sure we saw the ghost go after the white lady but honestly knowing this show I'm kind of worried for her friend
Welp it's still chasing her
Ooh yay Winchesters saved her
-
No time for character development. Too much going on. Gavin is already confronting his dead girlfriend
-
I guess this is how Gavin gets talked to go on the ship, so he can protect her >.>
-
They're blatantly just saying they can't burn the locket to justify sending Gavin back
I didn't watch 7x19 because I didn't want to put myself through it, but it does include a ghost having both bones and an item he's connected to aside from that he uses to move around, so I guess it's pre-existing Buckleming canon and I'm glad I remembered that without havig to relive the episode
-
"You don't intend to tamper with the flow of time, do ye?" Do they hear the dialogue they write? :P Gavin... literally... is here... tampering with the flow of time... Sam and Dean are just sticking up for the exact thing they've always said about putting Gavin back where Abaddon found him.
-
I guess Rowena is protesting because she likes him, but still... She might have found a better way to say it
-
Awww no Gavin is alone someone please give him a hug
Well Rowena did earlier
more hugs for Gavin... at this point all I want out of the episode. I'm still watching FOR Gavin
-
Hey Crowley. Popping up out of the blue with no explanation to defend Gavin some more.
-
This is kind of anvil heavy about someone from the past deciding to go back because they don't fit in and there are loved ones back there which is all horribly grim Mary-related stuff >.>
-
Though she doesn't have a "past" to return to, just Heaven, and we've had periodic opportunities for her to go back throughout the season so idk if it's maintaining the threat until the last minute like the way Dean suffered in season 11 with the temptation of Amara/the Empty that she represented, or just foreshadowing. Outside of Buckleming episodes I feel Dabb era is kind of more nuanced, but we'll see...
-
*stares at the emotional beats in this scene some more* honestly that could have been worse. Crowley was probably way too over-emotional about it considering he resented that he didn't want Gavin to die in 9x21... Not sure that making him cry was particularly kind to him although maybe he's learned to stop hissing in horror at feelings and never really got better, just manages it more... Anyway, his attachment to Gavin is completely hypothetical since he's ditched him in the future without a glance back except for sulking about feelings some more. Idk maybe he's been keeping a better eye on him than he has on with Winchesters or he'd fuckin' know that they were still desperately looking for Kelly.
I suppose Cas has been shouldering that one more than the Winchesters, and he'd not chat to Crowley about it all.
Hrm.
Anyway, trite emotional scene and then they take Gavin off and just leave Rowena? Even Baby looks embarassed to be in this episode. Rowena didn't even come to see Gavin off??
-
I'm glad their weird Latin spellbook helpfully has just the ingredients of the spell helpfully also listed in English just in case you were curious what they were/didn't remember them from last time
-
Eehehe the jar of angel feathers
-
Henry Winchester nostalgia
"and Abaddon" I'm amazed the sad music didn't record scratch
-
Also they're not even using the door.
-
"Oh this is a tough one" Aw Dean don't get too over emotional :S
-
*Sam notices a fly or something in the background while Dean looks all sappy about a love story*
Ugh I'll let Gavin have that. It makes no sense whatsoever how she appeared like that but okay :P They wanted to show us that I guess instead of just zapping Gavin back. Over-tell everything!!
-
Anyway I guess "Dabb vs cars" is now to be tagged with a strong sense of pride :P
Although also some disappointment he still has to deal with Buckleming
-
Also so this episode is still going on
-
They rewrote history
-
MARY
-
She brought food!
-
Terrifyingly coded food because Mom Beer and the betrayal burgers which date back to Cas in season 6
Dean is dramatic
-
Also they've changed clothes so this may be up to 3 months later
-
Oh dear, I think she's about to tell them she's hooked up with Mr Ketch in a Buckleming episode
-
You know my terror of them fucking this up is actually making it seem like this conversation is going better than it could have. I've only been annoyed with like two details of charactersation/silly dialogue choices so far :P
Dean's just done the despairing blink realising that family is waaaaaay more complicated than just saying they're family
-
Which he already knew but he has to go through it with Mary because this has been about tearing down all his notions about her and it doesn't work unless he's at least a LITTLE bit betrayed by her.
-
Rowena and Crowley... okay that wasn't the end of the episode.
Yay Rowena I guess :P I can't believe anyone still remembered 10x23 - we were sort of mostly pretending it didn't happen. (Also blaming Crowley for everything, not Sam even though he's the one who started it) - but Rowena remembered >.> And she rights the wrongs done against her. Always.
-
*random spooky end*
