sometimes i go back to illidan's gamepedia page because i simply cannot fathom the amount of misunderstandings he has to his name. yes, he's an asshole and did some very questionable things but he has always had one goal in mind and that goal is ultimately the protection of azeroth.

it makes me sad when people talk as if he is hungry for power for power's sake, or as if he had no good reason for his crimes.

for hells sake the og "betrayal" crime was literally the actions of a mana-addicted mage who's planet had just been sundered. he made a new well of eternity.

Random Stormrage Twins headcanons that I can’t keep to myself anymore

The reason Illidan sometimes shortens Malfurion’s name to just Furion is that the twins used to be so inseparable that people seldom said one’s name without the other’s. Over time, “Illidan and Malfurion” became just “Illidan and Furion” because that’s what sometimes happens when you have an unstressed syllable in the middle of a phrase.

Illidan is the older of the two, and because of his status as the chosen one, people would often ignore his little brother or dismiss him as the spare twin. These people would often get beaten up by Illidan.

When they were children, the two were disappointed that they didn’t share hair and eye colour, because that meant they could not play tricks by switching around.

Their parents were a huntress from Lorlathil and a suramarian Moon Guard sorcerer. They died while fighting a forest fire when the twins were 20 years old (which is about 13 in human years). The brothers soon found that they could not bear to stay in Lorlathil where everyone knew them and kept pitying them, so they enrolled in the Nar’thalas Academy. Once a week, all students were permitted to leave the academy grounds for a day. The brothers would always spend their day off in Suramar, which is how they met Tyrande Whisperwind.

They originally both planned to join the Moon Guard after graduating.

At the start of the War of the Ancients, they were 30 years old, which is 19 in human years.

All elven twins are blessed (or cursed) by Elune to always know whether their other half lives of not (this is sort of canon). When Illidan died at the Black Temple, it was the pain of that loss that caused Malfurion to get distracted and fall into the Nightmare’s clutches.

Although Malfurion was not present at the Siege of the Nighthold, the two met shortly after Illidan’s resurrection. The words that were exchanged were

Malfurion: I cannot tell you you were right. But I understand now why you did what you did. And I am sorry for not understanding earlier.

Illidan: I know I had not made it easy for you to understand. You need not apologise.

The two agreed that while there were a lot of things left to work out between them, they were both tired of being angry with the other.

After the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion, Illidan returned to Azeroth to help deal with the remnants of the Legion. He then ventured to Outland and former Legion worlds to do the same, which is why he was not present for the War of the Thorns. He rushed back to Azeroth when he felt his Malfurion die and was greatly relieved to learn that Tyrande had dragged him back from the brink of death.

It is SUCH a hard decision between Wranduin and Illithas. SO I’LL ANSWER FOR BOTH.

2. Why is OTP your OTP?

Illidan x Kael’thas - a lot because of circumstances. Kael’thas goes to Illidan for help, and Illidan offers an alternative for what Kael’thas is asking. Kael already likes him, because he is helping. He wants to spend more time with him. Illidan has just left prison, after thousands and thousands of years of torture and emotional neglect. And who better to get affection from than a twink prince of blood elves.

Wrathion x Anduin - because I love the idea that Wrathion is just infatuated with Anduin. The infatuation quickly grew into love but he was just enamored with the prince Anduin. Anduin was sassy and intelligent in Pandaria, and it seemed he had met his match when it came to bickering and strategy. When Wrathion returns after living Anduin all this time, he quickly becomes heartbroken, thinking Anduin hates him and wants nothing to do with him besides help with N’Zoth (completely understandable) and when Anduin proves to him it’s not the case, it’s so damn sweet. He stays in Stormwind, going to Sillithus, but still going to see Anduin.

Illithad - Oh, god. Bratty little prince x serious leader, if that exists? Polar opposites? Short boyfriend x tall boyfriend.

Wranduin - *slams hands on table* Friends to enemies to lovers. Law enforcement x war criminal. Dark x light. Immortal x mortal. Red x blue. Childhood friends. Forbidden love.

Illidan Stormrage, Arthas Menethil, Wrathion, Anduin Wrynn, Genn Greymane.

Illidan is just a huge and burly smug demon who needs love and loves antagonizing people. Perfect manz.

Arthas is literally the same but Wendy’s frosty.

Wrathion is literally the love of my life and he is a brat and he is gorgeous and pompous and I just adore him. He also has fabulous eyelashes and I love his little cocked eyebrow smile.

Anduin is suffering and a sweet conflicted boy.

Genn is suffering too and has been suffering for years.

4. Do you have to change the timelines for your au or headcanon?

So, with Blacksage, yeah, a lot. A lot of Wrathion’s time is occupied by his daughter. He also goes into being a pirate and sails the Kalimdorian, Southern, and Northrend seas. He takes Bee with him. He is also trans. That took up time too.

Not really, unless you count Genn having a string of homosexual lovers as changing the timeline.

Anduin is also trans and that took up some time. But not really.

Illidan having Darion and splitting between him and Amaris took up a lot. A lot shifts with Darion. But Darion doesn’t really come around til Legion for him.

favorite thing about them Oh oh I have several things I like about Illidan. First, from a design perspective, I LOVE his color palette SO much. Like its a very good middle of not being too cluttered but not overly simple, not too loud but not too muted. Its such a fine line of both and its SO good.

On a personality basis, I love how consistent he is throughout every iteration of him. imo, he's one of Blizz's better written characters. Even the retconning from TBC aside and not making him a bad guy anymore, he still works VERY well as the anti-hero type.

i also love how he interacts with the illidari. IMO hes never seen them as lesser or just "troops" but he seems to genuinely care about them all. absolutely love the fandom trope that hes the dad to them all cause he absolutely is.

least favorite thing about them tbh I can't really think of anything I dislike about Illidan? hes such a great character & I miss him dearly :( my lil ufo favorite line "YOU ARE NOT PRE- oh, what's that? Demon hunters having to consume demon souls as a form of sustenance! I don’t think it was ever stated anywhere, so I ended up writing them as power boosters with a twist.

Not that I have anything against Illidan but Korrinths journey has more or less been- when I first started writing her she was all about Illidaddy. Though after some time and putting myself in the characters shoes? I mean she’s a smart lady. I write Korrinth now more so angry with Illidan, in particular with his penchant for focus recruiting the emotionally unstable (people who’s lives were ruined by the Legion), and coupled that with giving them the choice to die in the ritual or doom themselves for eternity. In her view, becoming Illidari was not even a prerequisite for finishing the Legion off as the heroes of Azeroth proved they could do just fine without the demon juice.

Another random Genji headcanon thing I have which no one asked for!

Tldr: Certain Genji skins in game are actually some of genji's OCS

As I mentioned in my last headcanon post, I imagine Genji loves to draw even if he isn't very open about it. So building off of that ,he has OCS.

The ocs in question being Oni, Baihu, and Senti (he would have made these ones as a kid/teen) and then later on (like post recall) Cyberdemon! And maybe even skins like illidan, the birb, lava boi, bushi, ice wraith, and even the swordsman (even though it isn't an actual skin yet hopefully)

Also maybe he in turn made OC's which somewhat resemble people around him, starting off with like Hanzo and kiriko and then once he joined OverWatch, he eventually made characters which seemed very similar to a lot of them with probably Angela being one of the most common ones

So then he ended up pretty much projecting (more than he was already projecting on to them) his feelings for Angela he was burying and started shipping his character with new characters he made

For example: Baihu x Zhuque , Senti x Pink (the most obvious example probably tied with the next one), Oni X the witch or Oni X devil, cyber demon x miko, lava boi x moon, ice wraith x sugar plum, etc. And occasionally mix matching them depending on his mood

(and like most people) with him projecting so heavily on to these main OCS (mostly unconsciously) he used them to help work through emotions he was dealing with or situations he was in that he didn't have much control over. And we're almost like a comfort to him especially during blackwatch when he was at his lowest and felt like he didn't have anyone.
