sometimes i go back to illidan's gamepedia page because i simply cannot fathom the amount of misunderstandings he has to his name. yes, he's an asshole and did some very questionable things but he has always had one goal in mind and that goal is ultimately the protection of azeroth.
it makes me sad when people talk as if he is hungry for power for power's sake, or as if he had no good reason for his crimes.
for hells sake the og "betrayal" crime was literally the actions of a mana-addicted mage who's planet had just been sundered. he made a new well of eternity.
every single moonwell has water from that well of eternity in it now! look it up!
but yes totally deserving of a fate worse than death

Sitting down at a pub, ordering a beer and just vibing for a while by himself, Kael was waiting for a couple friends.
A few minutes turned into half an hour and the bartender, a tall kal'dorei walked over to his table.
"Are you okay over here? All by yourself?"
"Oh absolutely... I'm just waiting for my friends- it shouldn't take too long before they come!"
"If that's so-" He smirked ever so slightly and moved back behind the bar.
Kael'thas finished his first beer when the bartender walked over to him again.
"Are you sure you didn't make those friends of yours up?"
"Excuse me? You're the one who's made up..." He snapped back at him and shook his head. "I'm telling you they'll be here in a bit!"
"Aaalright..." The taller elf chuckled and walked back to the bar to get him another beer.
After a couple of encounters where the other table wanted to borrow one of Kael's table's chairs and he had to explain that he's not alone there, the kal'dorei walked over to him again.
"Are you sure they'll-"
"Yes I am sure! You know what? Bring me 3 more beers for them!"
"Three beers? One for each of your imaginary friends?" He smiled.
"Yes, three beers, one for each one of my real, not made up friends."
"That sounds legit to me..." He shook his head and walked away.
So now Kael is sitting there with 4 beers infront of him, which looks slightly worse than just sitting alone at a table for four. And finally he gets the bright idea to call one of his friends.
"Hi, Rom, I just wanted to ask when you're coming... is there bad traffic or something? ... what do you mean tomorrow? ... oh ... OH ... Oh I- I know it's tomorrow! I'm just... joking around... hahaha-... yeah... catch you tomorrow then- bye-"
"So... are you going to drink them by yourself now?" The bartender was so very amused by the scene before him.
"Um... There is probably no way for you to pack these to-go for me, huh?"
"Well no... But I could drink them with you-" He offered, smiling at him. "I'm Illidan, by the way..."
"Kael'thas," he said, smiling.
And suddenly, sitting alone at a pub didn't sound so bad.

Conflict of Purpose
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tanistra Bladesinger is a demon hunter in the service of Illidan Stormrage. But over time, her feelings and focus on eliminating the Burning Legion have been distracted with other desires... specifically for the Lord of Outland himself. In a moment of weakness, she confesses her emotions.
A/N: The first thing that came to me was the first line of Illidan's response, and I scribbled this on a whim. I don't know if I am going to do more, or rewrite.... I'm just excited that I wrote something for the first time in months. Comments appreciated. Maybe you can help me decide to keep going or not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It's quite simple, my Lord...Illidan. I love you."
The ever-increasing winds heralding the fel storm tore the words from Tanistra's lips, and whisked them past Illidan's ears into the roiling green clouds above Shadowmoon Valley. But she could tell he had heard them. She clasped her hands behind her back, trying to hide her trembling as he drew himself up tall and turned to her. There was a darkness in the pit of her stomach, a warning that she had gone too far. And yet she felt lighter, freer, with the source of her faltering concentration now out in the open.
Illidan regarded her, his thin lips pressed together, the wind fiercely pulling his black hair away from his face. She thought his fingers twitched, as though he was about to raise his hands to her, but they remained at his side. His tattooed chest swelled as he breathed in to respond.
"I did not create you to love me."
Tanistra's heart sank. But truly...had she expected anything other than this?
"I created you," Illidan continued in his deep, rich voice, "to aid me in destroying the Burning Legion. If you cannot do that, then I have no use for you, and you must reconsider your purpose as a member of the Illidari."
Tanistra's eyes stung with unshed, mortified tears. How strange it was that she could still have tears when everything around where they came from was charred and cauterized? How agonizing it was that she could feel anything other than rage and vengeance...that her heart still yearned for tender words and burning passion?
How foolish it was that she had dared to reveal this! She should have known Illidan approved of her only as a weapon...not as a woman. The demon hunters were dedicated to destroying the Burning Legion. There was no time for anything else, and she was a fool to have even considered otherwise.
She drew up, fixing her shoulders, forcing a defiant look onto her face. "M-My Lord," she said. "My purpose is as it ever was. The destruction of the Burning Legion."
Illidan said nothing, and she turned and walked towards the stairs, forcing her mind to think of her next sparring match. She descended towards the Illidari training grounds, towards her proud, precise, and passionate comrades practicing their deadly arts. And with each step she silently reminded herself that this was, after all, what she had been created for.
*~*
Illidan sat for a long moment following Tanistra's departure. He wondered, briefly, if he had been too hard on her. Perhaps exploiting her love to make her stronger was an asset he hadn't considered. He had, after all, seen the devotion Kael'thas's supporters showed. And of course...Azshara. There was little chance of him forgetting the utterly blind devotion her Highborne had shown. Devotion that had welcomed the Burning Legion into this world. Devotion that had led to the destruction of the Well of Eternity. The destruction of...of him...and Tyrande...and even Malfurion.
No, it was better to have rejected Tanistra. "Demons do not love," he murmured. "Why should we?"
He moved inside, away from the balcony and its revelations, and began considering the upcoming battle. But even as his well-honed mind constructed strategies, Tanistra kept flitting across his thoughts. He decided he would have her in the flanking group, the secret assault. She would be safer catching someone off guard.
He shook his head at the thought. Her safety need not concern him. She could take care of herself. She had proven that, time and time again.
But now she had a weakness. The softness, the desire, the vulnerability as she spoke of her heart. Then, after his firm response...the agony. And the defiance.
It was that look of defiance that lingered longest. At first he could not understand why her expression seemed so familiar to him. He had seen defiance before...but not with love as its cause...
The realization almost buckled his legs. He had not seen the look before, but he had worn it before. The moment he realized Tyrande was lost to him. The moment he had begged her to be his, had offered her power and strength and support for her wishes. She had looked back into his eyes, her expression filled with grief and hesitation...and he had known. That pain, that vulnerability, and then the anger, the realization that he had been wounded beyond measure and the cause of his wounding could witness it. He had drawn that defiance onto his face and left her.
Just as Tanistra had left him.
"It is better," he said again softly, and chose to ignore the hesitation in his voice.

Good evening, everyone! I'd like to tell you about my new fanfiction: Tales of Elves and Demons! It's a series of short stories about Illidan Stormrage from World of Warcraft. I wrote these stories for #stocofanfic! The challenge was a very fun! It helped me get into doing all kinds of things, such as mood boards and just fanfiction in general! Read the story on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/41389035/chapters/103790814
I might post them here on Tumblr at some point, too!

Chosen one trope not as an unavoidable fate, but as an expectation of the establishment. Chosen One trope but the refusal of the call is validated. Chosen One trope where the character's own wants and motivations are infinitely more important than whatever plans heavenly forces have for them. Chosen One trope but the most important thing the character can do is reject their title and choose their own life, free from the burdens of expectation and free from forces that want to control their body and their fate.

Characters Inspirations!
I saw @thelotusfae making some really beautiful moodboards for six inspirational characters behind her TESO ocs, and I simply couldn't resist such a lovely idea! I thought, what better chance to make something similar for my blorbos too?
Tumblr media
So, for Jia we have:
Demelza Poldark (spirited, resilient, compassionate) — Poldark
Princess Cirilla of Cintra (brave, determined, destined) — The Witcher
Daenerys Targaryen (ambitious, fierce, dragon) — ASOIAF
Princess Merida (adventurous, independent, stubborn) — Brave
Evey Hammond (broken, transformative, fighter) — V for Vendetta
Katniss Everdeen (resourceful, courageous, revolutionary) — The Hunger Games
Tumblr media
And for Miraak, we have:
Geralt of Rivia (stoic, cynical, introverted) — The Witcher
Jamie Fraser (soft-hearted, loyal, passionate) — Outlander
Daemon Targaryen (ambitious, charismatic, dragon) — Fire & Blood
V (traumatized, revolutionary, intelligent) — V for Vendetta
Heathcliff (brooding, tormented, arrogant)— Wuthering Heights
Illidan Stormrage (complex, relentless, driven) — WoW
Each and every one of these characters is being reminisced about while I'm writing specific parts of Jia and Miraak's story. I have incorporated similar personality traits, quirks, mistakes, choices, and even some common powers (I'm looking at you Dany and Jia👀)! Some characters may seem polar (see Jamie Fraser and Daemon Targaryen or Illidan, for instance), but they all have helped me pick my favorite characteristics of them, and insert them into my own ocs (also, yeah, Miraak is my oc thanks to the beloved Todd and the excellent character development he built for him).
Okay, I'm going to tag: @gingernutbiscuit, @prettytamagnii, @miraakulous-cloud-district, @kiir-do-faal-rahhe, @blossom-adventures, @bunniletto, @illumiera, and everyone else who sees this and wants to do it—don't forget to tag me back! No pressure of course! 🥰

as deeply flawed as WoW's story and character writing is from top to bottom they really cooked with illidan stormrage i think. he's got that 2010s deviantart effect where he's just so edgy and over the top it goes full circle from being cringe right back around to being kinda cool again

first tag game in ages
It has been forever since I've done one of these! Thanks for the tag @c-n-i-d-a-r-i-a-n!!
As I usually do for these sorts of things it's an open tag-in, if you like the post do it and tag me so I can see!!
3 ships: I'm also in the camp of writing/drawing mostly oc x oc and oc x canon (as I generally play RPGs where there's a player character that has a story or personality within player control or animation) BUT I thankfully DO have three!
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Link/Midna
This one is an oooold one I've recently become reacquainted with and I am just as weak in the knees for it as ever. Enemies (sort of) to friends to lovers, subtext heavy, starcrossed - it's got all my favorites wrapped in a comfy nostalgic LoZ package. I just read the manga on archive.org and was well fed but also very heartbroken.
Psychonauts - Sasha/Milla
Love a good opposites attract with a dash of psychic spy mid-century design fun. Probably the nicest/healthiest couple I ship due to their source material being relatively bright. The fic I wrote for these two is probably my most popular when it comes to the hits to kudos/comment ratio.
Warcraft - Maiev/Illidan
Extreme emphasis on the enemies part of enemies to lovers. I was enamored with them both since I was a kiddo playing Warcraft 3, and in my World of Warcraft playing days the Legion expansion just set my imagination going. They hate each other. They're bound to each other. Maiev has no purpose with him dead. Her purpose is to kill him. Illidan is trying to save their people through questionable means. Lawful Neutral x Chaotic Neutral. It's candy to me lol. Also night elves are very cool.
first ship: Teen Titans - Starfire/Robin
I remember racing home off the school bus to catch this show. My first username ever was related to it. As an adult Beast Boy/Raven is more intriguing to me but these guys hold a special place in my heart.
last song:
last film: Princess Mononoke - Boyfriend had never seen it, I made pho and we watched it. Great night.
currently reading: nothing im illiterate
currently craving: a nap tbh
fav color: Coral Red!
relationship status: Just had my 1 yr with my boyfriend! (Our anniversary is New Years :') )
last google search: "How did this get here I am not good with computer" - was talking lolcats w my bf
current obsessions: Twilight Princess, VTM, The Sims, trying to get more betterer at art

You said that you're ripping off (no offense) the slivers from magic the gathering right? Is it bad to ask how much you do that for your campaigns? I do it on occasion and I always feel like I'm plagarizing.
All the time. One of the things I enjoy most about DM'ing is taking things from my favorite media and playing with them the way I used to play with Lego Bionicles. I rip em apart and make my own stories with the pieces. Off the top of my head:
Eonite, the substance that can supercharge magic: Stolen from the Spellmonger series.
The magocracy: Also stolen from the Spellmonger Series
The goddess of death's religion and the depiction of death: SHAMELESSLY ripped from the Abhorsen trilogy, down to the use of bells.
The earth being used as a prison: In retrospect, unconsciously ripped from The Order of the Stick, probably. Also, *spoiler* Darkest Dungeon.
My Blood Hunter subclass that is very popular: Inspired by Illidan Stormrage from the Warcraft series.
The Suprisi Elves and their culture: Ripped in part from the Golgari from MTG.
The Sasinian Empire's ban on commoners carrying gold: The Black Company
The Grimdark Continent that we haven't gone to yet: The Black Company
My willingness to let lore contradict itself: The Riyiria series, as well as my own experience with studying history
"Are these rocks alive?": Dragon Age
Steal as MUCH as you want from media you enjoy. Shit, just as importantly, steal from media your PLAYERS enjoy. I ripped the death stuff from Abhorsen because one of my players really loved that series. I wrote an entire arc based on a more common (but not what the artist intended) reading of "Running Up That Hill," using a cover to get a different vibe.
There's definitely more stuff that I'm forgetting that I stole stuff from. I'm sure my players could name influences that I'm forgetting, too, because they see stuff with a more objective eye. Sometimes I write stuff not knowing where I got something from, and then my players will mention something about me cribbing it from something, and then I say, "FUCK," and move on with my life.
Steal, borrow, and take inspiration. If you GM for a long time, it's gonna be inevitable and necessary. It's okay and good and right.

Chromie: Mr. Illidan sir...are you sure you are, um...fit, to write this book?
Illidan Stormrage: Positive. I've written a novel before.
Malfurion Stormrage: You mean that three-hundred page rant on how the Emerald Dream—and I quote—"sucks"?
Illidan Stormrage: Yes. And that was eloquently worded. The rest of you are unprepared for the role of "Author." There is pain. Blood. Sacrifice.
Sylvanas Windrunner: It's true. Authors have ledgers dripping with crimson. I admire them.

This is just a cute little fun thing- i really want to write Kaellidan getting married and I had a thought of the high elves absolutely being into tradition and shit. And what's traditional? Asking for a blessing. But Anasterian is dead, of course, so Kael delegated this duty onto his most beloved friend. Enjoy, luvs. <3
╞═════𖠁𖠁═════╡
The mage's sincerity
╞═════𖠁𖠁═════╡
"Sit down..." Rommath gestured to a living chair and the Betrayer awkwardly sat down. Even though blood elven furniture was clearly not made for him.
"What did you want to discuss, Grand Magister?"
"There's no need for such formalities, I'm not calling you by your title either, Illidan."
"What did you want to discuss, Rommath-?"
"The fact that your... well, well-deserved title, tells me you're not someone to be trusted."
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"I don't think you're the best pick for the prince..."
"As if he wasn't able to decide that for himself."
"Of course he is fully capable of choosing his partners, however, I am unsure if he´s able to choose a king to rule by his side... And as his," Rommath's breath hitched for a short, but noticable moment, "most trusted advisor, I should have a say in the matter."
"Oh..." Illidan smiled. "Is that how it is? Gods, you blood elves are so stuffy-"
"Excuse me?" Rommath frowned at him.
"Well, you obviously think yourself more than an average night elf, don´t you? With all your jewellery and tacky furniture-... You´re an interesting kind of elf-... Yet you still manage to see me as the odd one?"
"That is not what this is about... All I am saying, Illidan, is that you are not... Made to be a king, to put it bluntly."
"Is this as blunt as you are going to get, Rommath?" He grinned.
"Would you wish me to be even more sincere?"
"Of course... As you yourself like to say, it's in your prince's best interest, isn't it?"
"Alright, Illidan... Let me be absolutely real with you for two seconds..." He smiled, his expression far too cool for a mage specialized in fire magic. "I am not going to stop at anything to destroy your miserable existence if you manage to hurt him... And I have never taken a liking to you, I have to admit... I don't see a single bit of what could've left Kael so charmed."
"Aww... you think I'm charming?"
"That is- the opposite of what I just said!"
"How lovely."
"Tell me one single reason for why you should marry the prince of the sin'dorei." Rommath was frowning again, his long eyebrows knitting together right above his nose. "Why should you be the one?"
"To be absolutely frank with you now... I don't know."
"You don't know?" He suddenly burst out laughing. "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!"
"Well... I am serious. I never expected anyone to love me. And certainly haven't expected a crown prince to take a liking to me."
Rommath was giggling, looking at the much bigger elf, his composure lost, wondering what his next response should be. "You're so pathetic for a man who won against the legion... You cannot even win against yourself in that horned head of yours, can you?"
"If that isn't the truth, Rommath... I can't. The only thing keeping me from throwing myself off a cliff now that my duty is finished... Is him-"
"Well that makes the two of us..." Rommath sighed, turning his head away from the demon hunter. "Will you keep him safe?"
This question startled Illidan, he was unsure if he could keep Kael safe from himself, let alone anyone else... What he was sure of on the other hand was that Kael did not need protecting. "I can certainly try..." He blurted out after a long while of staring at the smaller elf.
"Very well then... I think I might have to have a word with him now..."
