6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

hmm.. cant recall if that ever happened honestly. most of the time i just dont know enough about the pairings to really like them so im just indifferent about them. its like, "oh that exists" and i go back to whatever i was doing nfsnmdmsmf

batcat. i really cannot stand the sight of the pairing or even the ppl who like them (the latter mostly bc 3/4th of them are literally the most racist fuckers in the fandom)—honestly dc fandom ruined a lot of things that i used to enjoy but thats a very very long list so im just. gonna say batcat for now cknzmc

bfkanflmwmt i swear to god im. not joking when i say that ive been on this site for 6 years and have never, ever, received any kind of anon hate. like, ever, to the point where i actually began to wonder why like. is there some kind of force field? am i so intimidating that no one wants to tell me they hate me on anon?

deathstroke is literally a pedophile, abusive father, and a terrorist. i hope he dies and never comes back in the comics.

illyana rasputina/magik is just a bitchy white girl who was stuck in hell or whatever idfc about her.

jack hawksmoor is just a blank slate for cishet white men to project onto and jeroen thornedike is peak white evil & a coward.

niles caulder is a Bitch.

mad hatter is literally a pedophile too so he can choke and die + making him a schizophrenic is hella ableist :))))

rahne sinclaire is also a pedophile & homophobe sorry but nothing can ever change that. its part of her character.

i can go on bc theres some kind of theme w the characters i dislike/hate.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

hhhhhhhhhhhhh i hate,, that decimation arc in new x-men (2004). all those kids didnt have to suffer & die like that. i also just absolutely loathe any arc that humanizes deathstroke or the joker. also less of an arc and more of an entire comic but i hate batman: jekyll & hyde because of the extreme ableism towards harvey/two-face—literally the only good moment that came from that comic was when harvey is seen holding a wounded bruce and saying "good night sweet prince".

ALIGNMENT: VILLAIN

BIOGRAPHY:

Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina was born on a Soviet collective farm in Serbia. Before her was born her two brothers Piotr and Mikhail, only one of whom would go off to do great things for himself, both of whom were also mutants. So I guess you could say she had a lot of support going for her. It was no surprise that she grew close to one brother over the other after Piotr saved her from a runaway tractor on the farm she began to look up to him even more. As a child she was used by the Russian government for her mutation, along with her oldest brother Mikhail. When Piotr found out about this Illyana was whisked away to the United States thinking that she would be safe from harm.

This was sadly not the case as Illyana was soon abducted by the demon Belasco and taken into Limbo. While in Limbo Illyana was beaten by servants of Belasco and had part of her soul taken and turned into a Bloodstone. She lived in Limbo with Belasco for a long time as an apprentice, later discovering her teleportation disc mutation. During this time she began learning the ways of sorcery and how to harness her combat skills. Illyana quickly grew tired of her time spent with the demon and formulated a plan to be released from Limbo back to Earth. This plan entailed manifesting the Soulsword from a part of her own lifeforce, which she then used to defeat the demon for the time being.

Once back on Earth it wasn’t long before SHIELD had graced her as a “person of interest” and she was taken away to the University where she would have eyes on her 24/7. While she is technically part of the Villain Reformation Program she had already been going to SHIELD University since her technical Freshman year. Now going into her year as a Junior she is gearing left and right on the VRA and trying to keep her time in Limbo a secret.

EVENT TWO: SOMETHING STRANGE, SOMETHING RED, SOMETHING... WACKY?

suddenly without warning, the orange hued sky begins to shift and change into reddish hues. like a strangely red-shaded aurora borealis. no one exactly knows what that means - but for those that are pretty personal with the stones could take a guess that reality is about to get weird.

for this event, everyone is affected with something bizarre/silly/just plain-old fun. let’s just hope everyone can survive the effects.

steve rogers - any time steve says anything remotely leader-like, ‘born in the usa’ by bruce springsteen can be heard in the distance.

sharon carter - she must flip a coin before every decision she makes, heads she can proceed, tails and she can’t.

jean grey - the phoenix is now a macaw that sits on jeans shoulder and sass's anyone who questions it. including jean.

tony stark - his iron man suit is now the size of ant-man's suit when shrunk - and the only way he can use it at it's full size is if he asks FRIDAY really really nicely - and even then sometimes he might shrink down to fit the suit.

peggy carter - every time she turns around she is being followed by cats. strangely, every cat that turns up seems to remind her of someone she knows. no matter what she does, they still follow.

michelle jones - has ‘barbie girl’ by aqua on loop in her mind 24/7. the more she tries to ignore it, the louder it gets. some say they can actually hear it too. frightening.

riri williams - anything she builds or has built and brought with her now has a mind of its own and steadfastly refuses to do anything unless she speaks with it and addresses it as ‘ser bot of the mechanical wonders...’

pietro maximoff - when using his abilities, he can only make left turns. if he wants to make a right turn, he'll have to do it normal person speed.

peter parker - now has the powers and abilities of a moth.

carol danvers - instead of photon fists, she has hoedown fists - every time she raises her fist - people around her yell ‘yeehaw’. (her photon fists still work as normal - just with more cowboy)

bucky barnes - bucky is now narrating his life aloud - it’s as if he’s doing a voice over for a serious drama of his life. even he’s confused why he’s doing this.

kitty pryde - can only phase through people not objects. makes a honking noise each time she phases.

wanda maximoff - continuously believes she's on a reality tv show with a camera crew that follows her around. those within five feet of her can hear the captive audience reacting.

reed richards - instead of being able to stretch, reed can now solidify his body at will. basically, he can be an immoveable object.

amadeus cho - instead of being green - he turns purple. bright purple. except for his clothing. they're all green all the time. always.

harry osborn - somehow harry now has the smeagle/gollum complex. oops.

maria hill - all of her weapons are now made of rubber and the most harm they can do is emit a 'bonk' noise when she uses them.

teddy altman - every time he shapeshifts he absolutely HAS the need to compulsively yell out what and who he's shifting into. and he can only shift when he's near someone.

billy kaplan - every time he uses his magic a very loud 'ta-da' sound emits from around him. plus confetti. a lot of it.

marcos diaz - instead of having abilities like the sun, his abilities are now like the moon. have fun manipulating the tides.

ben reilly - now has the abilities of a worm. dancing the worm is not required.

kaine parker - now has the abilities of an ant. don't confuse him for ant-man.

clint barton - now is in full old-style Robin Hood clothing, yes including the green tights. He also has a forcible knack for saying cliche and sometimes silly things regarding his new look.

morgan stark - her suit reflects the color of her mother’s rescue armor, her a.i. now has her mother’s voice and personality. this could be awkward.

cindy moon - now has the ability of a goat. Spider-Silk-Goat. A little spooky, but hey! now with fifty percent more ability to punt people and things farther away!

brunnhilde - will now be plagued with ‘ride of the valkyries’ by richard wagner every time she speaks or thinks of a sarcastic remark. others will hear the music as well.

jessica drew - now has the abilities of a cat. cat-woman. not to be confused with dc’s catwoman. though she’s awesome too.

illyana rasputina - instead of channeling limbo, illyana will channel the fae realm. you know, the super cute and fluffy one.

yelena belova - the pinocchio syndrome. she cannot tell a lie lest her nose will grow.

lorna dane - can only manipulate silver - and her powers do the exact opposite of what she wants.

stephen strange - now has a magic wand, and can only do magic while using it. also his spells have to be from harry potter.

erik lehnsherr - must begin every sentence with ‘back in my day...’

thor odinson - has a new snake friend that remains wrapped around his arm and neck, it would be great if it didn’t bite every time he doesn’t speak his mind.

natasha romanoff - everything she says must sound like old noir/spy movie lingo, no matter what.

Jednak kilka chwil przed ceremonią ślubną uświadomiła sobie, że ich cała historia nie jest dobrym fundamentem pod małżeństwo i zrezygnowała ze ślubu. - Załamany Piotr postanowił opuścić X-Men i wrócił z powrotem do rodzinnej Rosji.

1. Your main fandom of the year? I didn't really have one because my internet activities were rare most time of the year... But I usually stick to ASOIAF, and Peaky Blinders.

2. Your favorite film watched this year? Arrival! I can't stress enough how brilliant this movie was! It was a masterpiece I can't cease to recommend. 2016 brought actually a lot of well made movies outside the usually block buster offer: Deadpool, Captian Fantastic, Julieta, and Nocturnal Animals were worth the trip to cinema. Otherwise I'd an open air cinema experience with Justin Kurzel's MacBeth.

3. Your favorite book read this year? More Letters of Note published by Shaun Usher, Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis, and the very best Dune by Frank Herbert. 4. Your favorite TV show of the year? Gotham Season 1 because I can be talked into anyting with a Mafia story, whereas the Man in the High Castle was honestly brilliant! Another big recommendation of mine. 5. Your favorite online fandom community of the year? Since I was busy trying to not die all five seconds in Fire Emblem Fates, I discovered the Fire Emblem community for myself. I have to say that this communit was the most fun in years with all the fanwork they create. 6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Look above. My friend als talked me into wathing Voltron: Legendary Defender and even though it was entertaining I miss a certain element animating me being enthusiasts about it since sci-fi and mecha aren't usually my cup of tea. 7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? Star Wars... seriously, folks, ships are not a politcal agenda! It got even worse when the ship fandoms began arguing mercilessly about positions during sex... How can people send atemale about fictional copulation position?! it just became stupid to bigotted. Second, I was annoyed by the reactions on Pride & Predjudice + Zombies and Ghostbusters since these movies were considered "feminists" even though the female characters were superficial, gave stereotypical "empowering" lines, the stoy itself has the quality of a spongepop episode, but still I'd to listen endlessly how progressive the movies were. Bollocks! For progressive female characters you need well written characters, not women acting stupidly like Rambo. 8. Your TV boyfriend of the year? Still Thomas Shelby, it will always be him. (Or Frank Finch, he deserves a break from all the misery he has to go through.) 9. Your TV girlfriend of the year? Basically all women from Peaky Blinders because they are intelligent, and not stereotpically beautiful. 10. Your biggest squee moment of the year? a) A new season of Man in the Highcastle b) The Shelby-Burgess wedding, the most iconic wedding in TV history after the Godfather c)The release of a lot of intelligent, or not stereotypical block buster movies.

d) Reading the showdown of The School for Good and Evil! Agatha and Sophie are an enrichement for my shipping list.

e) The development in Gotham about Bruce and Selina, and Oslwad and Edward ;) 11. The most missed of your old fandoms? I do miss Hetalia because it was a great community for sharing art work, as well as aid to remember historical facts, hahha. Actually a history student friend of mine got me into it again, but since we stay on mostly the historical level, I don't want to get involved once more in the shipping depictions which I find problematic many times and historically and cultually innapropriate, too! 12. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to? Um... is there an active Dune fandom out there? 13. Your biggest fan anticipations for 2017? Since 2016 actually was a good year for progressive, different movies, and January 2017 looks rather promising, especially the new Park Chan-Wook-movie, I'm positively excited. But it would be really nice if George R.R. Martin would finally publish Winds of Winter...!

Here’s how The Legend of Korra may have explained one of the weirdest mysteries from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender is full of hybrid animals. There’s Appa, Avatar Aang’s beloved sky bison. Naga is Korra’s polar bear dog. The ancient lion turtle is another example of the unique creatures that inhabit this world to the point that Aang and his friends think it’s weird when the Earth King has a pet bear that’s not a hybrid with some other animal.”

THE FALL OF THE PHOENIX: A NEW AGE FOR MUTANTS

Once again the world has been turned on its head. Over the last few months the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force has made itself a prevalent part of daily life. Although it made its presence on Earth known back in the 1990′s when it possessed and killed the X-Men team member known as Jean Grey, it recently resurfaced. The Phoenix hit modern awareness some five months back when a young mutant was possessed in Times Square, and while it appeared to be defeated after she was killed on site we later realized we were horribly wrong. What followed was the rise of a group known as the Phoenix Five. Mutants Emma Frost, Atlantean Namor McKenzie, Scott Summers, Kevin Ford and Clarice Fong all become hosts of the Phoenix and together set the world on fire. From Africa to Siberia to the United States, the five ‘fixed’ the world and monitored the population. While they said they were championing for the rights of mutants following their decimation at the hands of Avenger Wanda Maximoff ( see our august 3rd issue for full coverage ) their actions showed otherwise.

International incidents broke out as mutants began to take Avengers and civilians hostage while raiding government locations. The Avengers were able to take a few mutants into custody - such as the time displaced young version of mutant fanatic scott summers - before more damage could be done, but the mutants were not as kind. Those that they apprehended were trapped in dimension known as Limbo that had been partially pulled to earth by Fong with the aid of Limbo’s mistress, mutant Illyana Rasputina. There the hostages were tortured and drained of their life forces before an Avengers rescue team led by our new Captain America, Sam Wilson, managed to break them out and subdue Ford and Fong. Concurrently, the Avengers response team also managed to contain McKenzie with the aid of the Scarlet Witch. Other units such as the Avengers Countermeasures scientific team and the Galactic Preparation Squad worked around the world to try and contain the situation.

As many now know, the final confrontation between the Avengers and the Phoenix occurred in the small town of Citrusville, Florida. Residents had been evacuated weeks before and rumors had flown that Maximoff and Grey were seen in the area, but nothing was confirmed. The region around Citrusville is still being blocked up from the public so as it stands the Bugle can do no more than speculate as to why it was the place that the Avengers chose to hide out and use it as the site of their final stand. The last remaining Phoenixes, Emma Frost and Scott Summers, arrived at Citrusville on 2 December and entered into combat with those who were present. Thor Odinson, our favorite god of thunder, was seen alongside a blonde wielding a hammer that looked like the ruined Mjolnir ( more on her later! ) before Frost chopped his arm off. The night turned out to be full of casualties after Frost murdered Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto, and Logan Howlett, the Wolverine, was seemingly killed by his own daughter. The night came to a head when Summers murdered Frost to take the Phoenix Force for himself. The time displaced Marvel Girl and Maximoff were then able to take him out with the aid of the original Jean Grey, who also was confirmed as dying. With the deaths of five mutants and the count of those wounded rising, the fight proved to be a bloody end to the multi-month conflict. Most extraordinarily though were the words uttered by Grey and Maximoff before they banished the entity: no more phoenix. It was then that the Phoenix Force officially left earth and something amazing happened.

More mutants have manifested.

Although no mutants had been born in five years, reports that night over the globe marked a sudden appearance in mutant manifestations. The antithesis to the Decimation, there appears to now be an influx of new mutants. To anyone who may be experiencing new abilities or knows someone who does, you are encouraged to find the nearest Krakoan outpost and get in contact with a mutant representative for further help. Circumstances around Krakoa itself have only gained more complex and secretive after the recent events but we have no choice but to use their resources until the situation is contained. The Bugle is currently compiling quotes and information on the Island for our upcoming piece, The Dawn of X, but all we know for now is that its doors are open for all who are mutant. There are many other issues that need to be discussed in the coming days as we try to figure out what our new world looks like. Mutant affairs have been irreversibly changed for better or for worse and all we can do now is try to ride the wave. Today we celebrate a species crawling back from extinction. Tomorrow we clean up the mess we made to get there.

SHARING THE BLAME: X-MEN OR AVENGERS AT FAULT?

The crimes detailed in the article written by my colleague Ben Urich are only the tip of the iceberg of what has happened. In the days since the Phoenix Force was destroyed the United Nations have begun discussing what is the best course of actions in regards to how mutants should be tried for their crimes. Due to a deal that the nation of Krakoa has brokered with most major countries, however, mutants have full amnesty and can only be tried on the island internally. This obviously poses a problem for those who would like to see some form of accountability for all of the damage and destruction that has been done. The United States government has officially announced their list of mutants and crimes that need to be addressed, and the Bugle has linked a copy here for our viewers to read and weigh in on. Our outspoken editor, J. Jonah Jameson, has publicly stated that “The idea of ‘amnesty’ for these mutants is ridiculous and out of line. If they have the gall to believe that they can get away with what they’ve done then they’re stupider than we thought. Good honest people around the world were in danger because they wanted to play with fire. No. They don’t get to bully us anymore. The Phoenix is gone and this time it’s their reckoning.”

Alternatively, Sam Wilson the newly minted Captain America provided a statement as well. Both he and Captain Marvel ( Carol Danvers ) had been onsite that night and had first hand experience of the events. “They’ve lost a lot, just like us.” Wilson said last night in an interview in Manhattan. “Just because some were corrupt doesn’t mean that all were. Those who deserve to will be held accountable and we’ll do everything we can to make sure that happens. In the meanwhile, don’t forget that the mutants aren’t our enemies. They’re going through this just like we are and what we all need right now is acceptance and forgiveness. This mess was X-Men and Avenger. It’s easy to throw blame, but that’s not what the world needs. What we need is to make the world a better place for us, the mutants and those who are going through strange and uncomfortable changes right now. Wars over, folks. Let’s rebuild.”

Whether you’re more inclined to think like a Wilson or a Jameson is up to the individual, but the damage around the world is undeniable. Wakanda was flooded and the Blue Area of the Moon damaged. Areas like Tabula Rasa and the Savage Lands that don’t usually suffer visitors are now compromised. As the senior reporter of the mutant affairs section of the Bugle, I have made it my goal to honestly chronicle all situations involving the homo superior. As we move into this new phase of mutant sovereignty more questions will arise. The Avengers were to blame, in part, for what happened but they will have to face the consequences of their actions publicly, like always. It is murkier with the mutants. Their accountability may not be visible, and if it is not will old wounds ever be able to heal?

Ever since the battle of Citrusville, there have been no sightings of Thor Odinson. In a rather bloody move, Odinson lost his arm to Emma Frost with his very own hammer. We know, we know. It’s bad. Almost as surprising though was the blonde who fought beside Thor and held a hammer that looked like Mjolnir, which was destroyed during the Asgardian Ragnarok. If this mysterious warrior has Mjolnir we’d be led to believe that she’s not only Asgardian but also worthy. Is there a new Thor in town??

Both Attilan and Wakanda suffered severe water damage due to flooding done by Namor McKenzie while he possessed the abilities of the Phoenix Force. Attilan’s Queen, Crystalia Amaquelin, was believed to be drowned in the attack but has since been revealed as a living hostage. Amaquelin was not available for a comment about how Attilan plans to rebuild, but the nation remains positioned on the Hudson River. King T’Challa of Wakanda has also remained out of the public eye since the event but a representative of the Royal Family has assured us that the country is focusing on healing and will be part of the United Nations move for mutant accountability. A third nation, New Asgard, was burned by Emma Frost a few weeks back. The refugee people have since been working to rebuild their homes and livelihoods. Any aid you would like to provide to any of the three people can be dropped off at the Daily Bugles Manhattan office.

The Guardians of the Galaxy were recently spotted reentering the atmosphere after a lengthy time away. It looks as if our rag tag team missed the Phoenix mess altogether. Are they lucky, or are they just assholes?
