Filipino traditional costumes are diverse and vary across different regions of the Philippines. Here are some examples:
Tumblr media
Barong Tagalog: The Barong Tagalog is a formal shirt-like garment for men, often worn at special occasions and events. It is made from lightweight fabrics like piña (pineapple fibers) or jusi (banana fibers) and is known for its intricate embroidery. The Barong Tagalog is typically worn untucked over a plain undershirt.
Maria Clara Dress: Named after a character in Dr. Jose Rizal’s novel “Noli Me Tangere,” the Maria Clara dress is a traditional gown for women. It features a flowing skirt and butterfly sleeves, often made from lightweight fabrics like piña or jusi. It’s commonly worn during formal events and occasions.
Terno: The terno is an iconic Filipino formal gown for women. It features a distinctive butterfly sleeve, which can vary in size and design. The terno is often worn at prestigious events and was even popularized by former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Ilocano Attire: In the northern region of Ilocos, both men and women wear traditional outfits. Men wear a striped woven shirt called “inabel” or “baro’t saya,” while women wear a wrap-around skirt called “patadyong” along with a matching blouse.
T’boli Attire: The T’boli people from Mindanao have unique traditional clothing. Women wear intricately designed blouses and skirts adorned with vibrant colors and patterns. They also wear heavy beadwork and accessories.
Ifugao Attire: The Ifugao people from the Cordillera region wear distinctive attire. Men often wear a loincloth called “wanes” and a wrap-around skirt called “tapis.” Women wear wrap-around skirts and intricately woven tops.
Maguindanao Attire: The Maguindanao people from Mindanao have ornate traditional clothing. Men wear a long-sleeved shirt called “kandit,” while women wear a blouse and a wrap-around skirt called “malong.”
Yakan Attire: The Yakan people from Basilan have vibrant and colorful woven fabrics. Women often wear a “sablay” or “blouse” paired with a “sambayang” or wrap-around skirt.
Mangyan Attire: The Mangyan indigenous groups from Mindoro have distinct clothing. Women wear “tapis,” a wrap-around cloth, and men wear a loincloth called “baag.”
Kalinga Attire: The Kalinga people from the Cordillera region are known for their body tattoos and traditional clothing. Women often wear a “lufid” or wrap-around skirt along with intricate beadwork.
Tumblr media
These examples represent just a fraction of the rich variety of traditional costumes in the Philippines, each reflecting the culture, history, and unique heritage of different regions and indigenous communities.

Calle Crisologo
(Vigan City, Ilocos Sur)
The Spanish colonial heritage village of Calle Crisologo will transport you back in time to Vigan's vibrant Manila-Acapulco large-scale history. In the Philippines, Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, is one of the most attractive streets. It is home to beautiful tungsten lighting, centuries-old cobblestone, and stone houses. Kalesas or horse-drawn carriages are still utilized for transportation. In actuality, the street is a pedestrian-only area, with the exception of kalesas that are popular for viewing the local historical monuments. A few of the ancestral homes have been transformed into eateries that serve the renowned Ilocos bagnet (deep-fried pork belly) and empanadas. Yet others have been transformed into hotels and gift stores selling authentic Inabel bedding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the Calle Crisologo (or Mena Crisologo) beautifully preserved homes are the former residences of well-known historical figures. They belonged to the wealthier families who thrived during the era of active Filipino-Chinese trade (products like abel cloth, gold, indigo, tobacco). Strong foundations and attentive maintenance have kept each of these homes in good condition. The photographic aspirations will be greatly aided by the thick walls, enormous doors, red-tiled roofs, and staircases leading to chambers with high ceilings, all of which are stunning and worthy of admiration. The majority of these residences have been transformed into stores, restaurants, museums, and lodgings, ensuring that your day in the Calle Crisologo neighborhood will be exciting, vibrant, and pleasurable.

Tumblr media
The Crisologos, one of Vigan's most well-known political families, converted their ancestral home into the Crisologo Museum. The Vigan Cathedral is a short distance from the museum. It is well-known not only for the family name associated with it but also for the variety of memorabilia it contains, including historical and political artifacts that have shaped both the Ilocos region and the Philippines as a whole.
Tumblr media
Calle Crisologo transforms into a lovely place as night falls. You'll hear from many people that visiting Mena Crisologo at night is even more worthwhile than doing so during the day. Aesthetic lamps will be installed all throughout the region, illuminating the area's already lovely cobblestone streets—truly a sight to behold.   At that point, it will also be time to settle in and enjoy a wonderful supper at one of the chic restaurants on Calle Crisologo. Many people would choose Café Leona since they frequently set up several tables outdoors so that their customers may enjoy dining outside.

I carry my backpack like a first grader after school since I broke my bone. My doctor said, I have a strong bone but my muscles are weak.
I stole this jacket from my Mom’s closet. She’s not using it for years. White is one of my favorite colors now. I’m updating my closet so I have a better use for it!
The top I’m wearing here is an Inabel, if I’m not mistaken, Inabels are native to the North of Luzon. I thrifted this however in Cebu City. It is by far the most sustainable and valuable piece I’ve thrifted! Surely, these are made by local artisans.
If you haven’t noticed yet, I have a keen eye for native-modern things. This Liliw made Abacca slip-ons I’m wearing is already my second pair. The first one I got was smaller by size and was torn apart after my partner, Louie and I got into an accident. Whereas none of his friends came to help when asked upon. The day I started objectively judging his so-called friends I will never forget.
I am unsure yet of the reason that is holding me back to unfriend these people. People are different, yes. But I cannot believe they don’t even have the core values. I called few of them to whom I thought were gonna rescue Louie. I was okay, myself but Louie got an open wound that needed stitches. None of his friends was ready to pick him up all because they have a “feast” to attend that seemed more important than their bleeding friend.
It breaks my heart that my friends turn out to be supportive of him. Particularly with the production of his album. He didn’t ask any help at all but my friends flooded him with support however they can.
I am just ranting about this now because it’s still unbelievable to me to have known these people to even say they’re friends with my partner which is actually not at all related to my initial topic. I just remember of how disregarding people can be because of my shoes. I’m thinking at-least of unfriending them because I don’t want these kind of people to be even partly involved in my life.
