Inktober day 8! I had to do toad, but how I thought? Peach’s smash bros attack of course! I wonder if she has any remorse especially if she uses it against Bowser. Maybe not, maybe she’s heartless, but I drew her with a bit of fear in her eyes regarding the safety of her toad. I wonder if it’s a job a toad signs up for…
Red toad: Hey are you signing up this year for the Smash Bros position?
Red toad 2: Are you crazy?! Jim got 3rd degree burns last year and was sent to the hospital after going against Bowser.
Random toad: I heard that Gregg was blasted by magic and was sick for days.
I don’t know do what I just made but do what you will with this little story I created just now.

10 best royal exhibitions to continue the Coronation celebrations, from Buckingham Palace to Blenheim
The day of the Coronation is over but these remarkable royal exhibitions across the UK means the excitement doesn’t need to be
By Natasha Leake
18 May 2023
The glow from King Charles III’s Coronation is starting to fade, but there is plenty more pomp and ceremony to be discovered at these extraordinary royal exhibitions currently being staged across the country.
Stately homes and royal palaces have transformed their sumptuous rooms into backdrops for stunning showcases of royal regalia, period costumes and mementos of past Coronations.
From Blair Castle to Castle Howard; Blenheim to Buckingham Palace, book a date at one of these must-see royal exhibitions to keep the celebrations going.
Tumblr media
Through a carefully curated selection of more than 200 pieces, the Kensington Palace fashion exhibition draws parallels between the pomp, ceremony and performance of the contemporary red carpet and the pressure to ‘see and be seen’ at Georgian court.
One-of-a-kind creations worn by Lizzo, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga et al. are juxtaposed with outfits worn by 18th century movers and shakers in the State Apartments, which, handily, is where the showcase is staged.

Blenheim Palace is using the occasion of the Coronation to celebrate its historic connection with the Royal Family.
With a collection of previously unseen artefacts, crowns, coronets, robes, and photo albums, take a trip into the world of royal fashion with an impeccably restored Norman Hartnell silk gown, worn by the then Rosemary Spencer-Churchill to the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
Also on display are costumes from Bridgerton and The Crown, and a page from a Blenheim visitor’s book, which includes the elegant inked signatures of Wallis Simpson (the future Duchess of Windsor) and her second husband, Ernest A. Simpson.

Originally launched in 2022, the award-winning Castle Couture exhibition returns this summer to Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Atholl family, with an extended edition that showcases statement designs, intricate embroidery, innovative textiles, and style influences from the 18th century through to the 20th century.
Among the highlights are delightfully delicate ostrich feather and Brussels lace fans by the renowned Parisienne craftsman Duvelleroy, the appointed supplier to Queen Victoria.
There are also pieces from the personal collection of the late Katharine Stewart-Murray, Duchess of Atholl, Scotland’s first Scottish female Member of Parliament.

In a homage to the Regency period, visitors are invited to take a step back into the world of the Georgians with an exhibition that looks at how fashion trends reflected the significant trade, travel and technological advances of the period.
A highlight of the exhibition is a rarely displayed, full-length portrait of Queen Charlotte (of Bridgerton fame) by Thomas Gainsborough, dated from around 1781, which usually hangs in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.
The showcase also features one of the earliest surviving British royal wedding dresses: a stunning gown worn by Princess Charlotte of Wales in 1816.

The late Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved corgis captured the hearts of the nation the late monarch’s funeral.
Now they are being celebrated as part of a free exhibition at the Wallace Collection, in central London.
The one-room display features touching imagery of the Queen with her corgis.
It coincides with the museum’s exhibition, ‘Portraits of Dogs: From Gainsborough to Hockney,’ which celebrates human devotion to dogs over the centuries through a carefully curated selection of 50 paintings, sculptures, drawings and taxidermy.

Situated in a pair of beautifully restored early Georgian townhouses, the exhibition showcases centuries of royal fans from across the globe, including a special, printed, English fan marking the restoration of Charles II and the contemporary fans made by The Fan Museum in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
The exhibition promises to be ‘not merely a look back on what has been but a rally of hope for what is to come.’
King Charles III has also taken an avid interest in the Fan Museum’s work.

The Long Gallery at Castle Howard, home to the Howard family for more than 300 years, is hosting an incredible exhibition featuring an exact replica of the Crown Jewels and peers’ robes worn to coronations gone by.
Set in 10,000 glorious acres on the edge of the Yorkshire moors, Castle Howard was commissioned in 1699 by the 3rd Earl of Carlisle from Sir John Vanbrugh, who later conceived Blenheim Palace.
The 1st Earl of Carlisle was descended from Lord William Howard, the youngest son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk (the current Duke of Norfolk organised the King and Queen’s Coronation).

During the last Coronation, the hotel had to secure extra flagpoles in order to fly banners for the many different royals and dignitaries staying there.
The archive overflows with Coronation material, which is why Claridge’s unveiled a space showcasing the hotel’s status as ‘the Royal Hostelry.’
Mementos on display include pages from Queen Victoria’s diary, fans created for the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, and Claridge’s menus and cocktail cards created for the coronations of King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

The world watched in awe as the newly crowned King Charles III and Queen Camilla processed from Westminster Abbey back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach.
This extraordinary regal treasure is available to view at the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, alongside the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which transported Their Majesties to the Abbey ahead of the service.
Also housed in the mews? The famous Windsor Grey horses, which drew the magnificent carriages on the day.

At the epicentre of the Coronation was Westminster Abbey. So where better to delve into the gilded history of the captivating service?
A new exhibition in the Chapter House reveals the key elements of the royal ceremony, which has taken place at the Abbey for nearly a thousand years.
Featuring historic illustrations and archive photography, it promises to unpack and explain the Coronation’s magnificent ceremonial regalia and objects.

Where Is The Next DreamWorks Movie?
Looking at all the official American slates for Universal Pictures, it would appear that DreamWorks Animation is released only one picture this calendar year, and that would happened to be a seemingly-untitled TROLLS sequel. The third overall, of course.
What is not known is that DreamWorks actually has a picture coming out this year, before TROLLS 3 debuts in the autumn. An original picture, at that. Apparently, the plan behind closed doors is to release one original movie and one sequel every calendar year. So far, we do know that DreamWorks intends to release KUNG FU PANDA 4 in the late winter of 2024, but nothing else is on their schedule besides that film and TROLLS 3. Not even a placeholder, you know, the sort of "Untitled DreamWorks"... The other animation studio that operates under Universal, the ever reliable hit-makers Illumination Entertainment, have MIGRATION set in stone for 12/22/2023 and DESPICABLE ME 4 inked for 7/3/2024. Nothing beyond that, though they do have various pictures in development. There's also, curiously, an untitled animated feature release from Universal set for 2/8/2024... Is this a DreamWorks movie? Likely not, if KUNG FU PANDA 4 is opening in March of that year. Two that close to each other? I don't think that's happening. Illumination? Maybe. A February release would be new for them... It could also be... Since Universal now owns the rights to this particular movie franchise... The next LEGO movie... After all, THE LEGO MOVIE and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE opened in February to much success, THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART - sadly - not so much. Maybe KUNG FU PANDA 4 takes that February slot and abandons March, with the 2nd DWA title that year opening in the fall.
Anyways, I'll get on with it... There's stuff out there that confirms this... DreamWorks' next movie is a picture about sea monsters, it's titled MEET THE GILLMANS. It's on a Universal slate from Switzerland that pegs it at 6/30/2023, it's also been mentioned in various European marketing and promo stuff. There's concept art and images floating around the webs, too. The movie exists, yet it doesn't... Now, it's one thing to start a marketing campaign a mere four to five months before release. After all, Universal/DreamWorks did just that with THE BAD GUYS this past year and that film - budgeted at roughly $80m - did rather fine for itself. *But*, we knew the film *existed* as far back as 2018, when DreamWorks optioned the book series for a feature adaptation... There has been no formal announcement whatsoever with MEET THE GILLMANS. Only through tiny out-of-the-way scoop sites that I've never heard of and the title appearing on staffers' LinkedIn profiles and resumes. One of the hosts of the podcast Fine Tooning, without naming the movie, says it's coming out prior to TROLLS 3... Which, by the way, is actually called TROLLS BAND TOGETHER. Universal has yet to disclose that to the American public. The Swiss slate seems to indicate that TROLLS BAND TOGETHER, currently scheduled to release 11/17/2023, will open in mid-October instead. Which seems smart, because the current date puts it five days before Disney Animation's celebratory centennial musical fantasy WISH, which is sure to be the inverse of STRANGE WORLD and will make a good amount of money.
Curiously, 6/30/2023 puts MEET THE GILLMANS very close to... Pixar's ELEMENTAL, Sony's ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, and Disney's live-action/VFX-heavy LITTLE MERMAID remake... Until addition to a ton of blockbuster tentpoles.
A little while back, the original plan was to have an original picture open 3/24/2023. This was back when PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH carried a 9/23/2022 release date, and THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE was set for Christmas 2022. MARIO was pushed to 4/7/2023 to coincide with the opening of Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood. So that put PUSS in the Christmastime frame, and also made MIGRATION - ahem - migrate to Christmas 2023. GILLMANS has, rather covertly, taken MIGRATION's original intended summer slot. Or so it seems...
But why not mid-March for MARIO? Or better yet, March 10th? You know, MAR10? It's not like March is really stuffed... Like, does a SHAZAM! sequel that's kinda meaningless now in the grand scheme of things and a DUNGEONS & DRAGONS movie pose any kind of threat to the freakin' Super Mario Bros.? I think what could've worked well was having MARIO make March its domain, while MEET THE GILLMANS could open in late April - much like how THE BAD GUYS did - and get the jump on the family competition from LITTLE MERMAID, ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, and ELEMENTAL.
I don't believe in family films and animated films "cannibalizing" each other at the box office, but options are *slim* when it comes to affordability. If the average American family hit the flicks four times a calendar year back in 2014, think of how many times they can manage now, especially in the post-outbreak times we're living in. Ya know? MEET THE GILLMANS presumably cost around the same amount of money the previous string of DWA titles did (PUSS cost $90m, BAD GUYS about $80m, BOSS BABY around $82m), so not too too much is riding on it. If anything, I'm more worried about the Pixar film making back its presumably astronomical budget than this movie, but it'd suck to see another DreamWorks movie tank. Maybe there's no need to worry and they know how they're going to ride this all out...
That being said, it would be nice to know about the movie in question since it's less than half a year away at this point.

James M. Barry, Sr., age 83, of Ellisville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 9, 1940 to Vincent and Lorraine Barry (nee Decker).
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Page Barry (nee Myers); loving children, Robin (Robert) Gerchen, Jim (Sally) Barry, and Jennifer (Garland) Hines; treasured grandchildren, Allison (Christian) Meyer, Robert Hancock, Alexandra Gerchen, Jean-Martin Gerchen, Jack Barry, Hannah Barry, Thomas Barry, Joseph “Vance” Watkins, Nicholas Watkins, and James Watkins; dear brother, Vince (wife Patricia survives) Barry; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Barry; and mother, Lorraine Barry.
According to Jim, he was the favorite child (I believe Uncle Vince might agree). He and his brother grew up above The Copper Kettle, a tavern his parents owned. He was a caddy at the local golf course and soon became very good at the sport. His love for golf continued throughout his life even in his waning days when his grandsons would come over to keep him company and watch golf on tv with him.
He attended Cincinnati Academy of Commercial Art following high school and soon landed a job at Maritz in St. Louis, while fulfilling his commitment as an Air Force reservist. It was at Martiz that he made lifelong friends – Tom Lavelle, Herb Rose and Rich Avett. He and Herb Rose went on to found Barry, Rose & Associates and from there he became the creative director at Herman Marketing where photography became his main focus.
His proudest freelance project was the creation of the City of Ellisville logo which is still used today.
In his younger years, he collected beer cans and was a proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America. More recently, he enjoyed woodworking, especially turning bowls, carpentry and cabinet making, buying and reselling antique tools.
Of late, he was very proud member of the American Legion, Post 556.
Jim was well known by his family and friends for his very timely sense of humor, throwing in zingers when you’d least expect it. Granddad was also a wonderful, creative soul leaving behind beautiful gifts for his children and grandchildren including paintings, hand-turned wooden boxes, bowls, ice cream scoops and ink pens as well as furniture and cabinetry in our homes.

Trektober/Spocktober 2023!
Fuck it, I've decided to tackle a -tober drawing challenge for the first time in 4 years! I'm gonna be doing a combo of Trektober (Star Trek themed prompts) and Spocktober (Spock every day!), since my brain is on Star Trek lockdown atm.
In previous years, I've gotten about a week in and given up. I tried the official Inktober (2017 prompt list) in September 2018, then actual Inktober in 2018, then also in 2019, and the farthest I got was day 8 (Sept. 2018). I think my failure was due to being like "Yeah I'll just draw whatever strikes me each day, it's cool if I paint or use markers or--" and getting completely overwhelmed.
So, this year, I am setting some guidelines for myself:
Only inks. Literally just pen and ink. Nothing else.
Well, I'm allowed to do pencil undersketches. But those are only allowed to take 15 minutes, and the inking is only allowed to take 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes for each prompt (that way if I fall behind it shouldn't take too long to catch up... I hope...)
Thumbnailing ideas in advance. Takes the pressure off of sketching!
Set page size and notebook: all of these are gonna be A5 and in my main multimedia sketchbook so that if I want to paint them later I can
Post once weekly. In previous years I was trying to post every day, which was stressful and irritating, so instead I'm gonna post them in batches of seven. Or maybe four, actually. Uhhhh. We'll see??
EDIT:
The time limit is not happening, we're just going on vibes
I'm gonna post daily instead but with a delay so I can queue posts in advance
My main goals this October are:
To have fun :3
To get used to finishing drawings
To get used to posting them, too!
To have fun :3
To improve my sketching and lineart skills
To end up with a bunch of finished drawings (of Spock!!!) :3
To let go of a bit of my perfectionism
TO HAVE FUN :3
If this goes to shit and I don't get it all done, I'm still gonna be happy I tried. This is a warning to future me. Don't be a dick.

Why a bridge deal could be what’s best for Leafs’ Nylander
The Maple Leafs want a long-term deal. William Nylander wants a long-term deal. But maybe what’s best for both is a short-term pact.
On Tuesday night in Lucan, Ont., the Toronto Maple Leafs will take the ice for their first tilt of the pre-season. Mitch Marner will be there. Nazem Kadri is set to suit up. John Tavares, arguably the most monumental free-agent signing in NHL history, will pull on the blue-and-white for his first game action with the Leafs. But amid all the excitement, there will still be one question on the minds of Toronto faithful: what exactly is going on with William Nylander?
Now that training camp is well underway, Nylander, 22, has become conspicuous by his absence. And with each passing day, the concerns surrounding his contract status — he’s a restricted free agent without any pact of which to speak — are growing. What we know is only what we’ve heard or what the two parties involved, Nylander and the Maple Leafs, have let us in on. The ask from Nylander appears to be a long-term contract, one that sees him paid handsomely and a rate commensurate with other top young stars. And while Toronto, it would seem, is interested in going long with Nylander, the money has seemingly become the greatest sticking point.
To be sure, Nylander’s value is hard to peg. Early off-season suggestions were that Nylander was seeking north of $8 million annually. More recent reports have indicated that the sweet spot, particularly for the Maple Leafs, may be somewhere in the $6 million to $6.5-million range. And the case can certainly be made for both.
Leon Draisaitl, for instance, signed an eight-year, $68-million contract with the Edmonton Oilers coming off of his second and third NHL seasons in which he accumulated 48 goals and 128 points in 154 games. That’s comparable to Nylander’s 42 goals and 122 points in 163 games during his same seasons. The argument against a similar payday is that Draisaitl is pegged as a second-line center while the Maple Leafs, especially with Tavares now aboard, will be sticking Nylander on the wing for the foreseeable future. Less versatility and less impact equals a lower rate of pay.
One can see, too, why the Leafs are eyeing something in the mid-$6 millions. Statistically, there are similar comparisons, chief among which is Nikolaj Ehlers. The Winnipeg Jets inked him to a seven-year, $42-million deal ahead of last season, and Ehlers has accumulated 54 goals and 124 points across his second and third NHL campaigns. Granted, the contract might not be a perfect one-for-one comparison given it was signed prior to Ehlers beginning the aforementioned third season. Last season’s output could have inflated the asking price.
Regardless, with the two sides seemingly stuck in a state of financial impasse, one wonders why there hasn’t been more consideration given to a short-term deal that simply gets Nylander locked up for the time being.
The obvious benefit for the Maple Leafs in a bridge deal in the immediate view is that it gets Nylander, a shoo-in for another 20-goal, 60-point season, back in the lineup. Not that the Maple Leafs’ lineup is in any dire need of additional firepower, but Nylander is one more bullet in the chamber for a Toronto outfit that will be able to run and gun with anyone this coming campaign. That’s not to mention the short-term financial flexibility that a bridge deal would offer that a long-term contract simply will not. While it may not be the most pressing issue this season, what with the Maple Leafs having upwards of $13 million in projected cap space this season, the additional cap space a short-term deal offers could be of benefit next summer when Matthews, Marner and a stable of others enter varying stages of free agency. It also won’t hurt when the trade deadline comes around during the 2018-19 or 2019-20 campaigns.
Of course, with bridge contracts generally coming with lesser cap hits, such a deal would assuredly see Nylander sacrifice some of his earnings for a couple seasons. But what Nylander loses in the coming campaigns he’d be almost guaranteed to make up the moment he puts pen to paper on his next contract. It’d be a bet on himself, somewhat of a gamble, to be sure, but it would seem foolish to suggest Nylander can’t increase his asking price with each consecutive season.
In fact, who’s to say Nylander can’t go out and pull a Nikita Kucherov? When Kucherov inked his almost absurdly team-friendly three-year bridge deal with Tampa Bay in October 2016, it came on the heels of the Lightning winger asserting himself as an offensive star thanks to second and third NHL campaigns in which he racked up 59 goals and 121 points in 159 games. The assumed asking price on a long-term deal at the time was in the $7-million range. And while he settled for far less at roughly $4.8 million per season, Kucherov turned the bridge deal into a bank-breaking contract. He signed an eight-year extension this summer that carries a $9.5-million cap hit after stuffing the scoresheet to the tune of 79 goals and 185 points across the past two seasons.
Kucherov’s long-term deal is evidence of the potential for significant financial gain that can come from a player biting the bullet on a bridge deal, too. If Kucherov had signed an eight-year deal at $7 million per season ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, he would have earned an additional $6.6 million in salary by the end of the 2018-19 season. But Kucherov is also going to earn $12.5 million more over the next five seasons than he would had he been locked in on an eight-year, $56-million contract two seasons back. All told, he’ll come out nearly $6 million ahead come the end of the 2023-24 season, and he’ll still have another $28.5 million yet to be paid out. Not bad.
This is to say that a bridge deal, while it saves the Maple Leafs money now and might seem more favorable for Toronto, could be a worthwhile gambit for Nylander. If he believes he can be an $8-million player — or if he feels his value is even greater than that — he would have two seasons to prove it. And if he makes good on his yet untapped potential, Nylander could put himself in a better financial position long-term than any lengthy pact he signs today could possibly offer.

Alice Cooper: Too Close for Comfort Coming to Downtown Wheeling's Wesbanco in October
Tumblr media
WesBanco Arena made two major concert announcements this morning. Alice Cooper: Too Close for Comfort tour will be coming to WesBanco Arena on Sunday, October 8, 2023. Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment: Kiss of Death Tour with special guests Avatar and New Years Day will visit WesBanco Arena on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Rock legend Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock.  Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. Alice Cooper’s albums and singles are iconic in rock & roll. “School’s Out”, “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, “I’m Eighteen”, “Billion Dollar Babies”, and many more. In 1975, Cooper released his first solo album “Welcome to My Nightmare”, accompanied by the groundbreaking theatrical concert tour. Cooper was widely praised in 2018 for his performance as King Herod in NBC-TV’s live production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” He has also made memorable appearances in “Wayne’s World”, “Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare”, and on “That ‘70’s Show.” With his influence on rock & roll and popular culture long since acknowledged, there is little that Alice Cooper hasn't achieved in his remarkable career, including platinum albums, sold-out tours and any number of honors and career achievement awards.   ICE NINE KILLS make music both timeless and timely, mixing metal, hardcore, and punk, with accessible power. New hard-rock-and-horror anthems like “Hip to be Scared,” “Assault & Batteries,” “Take Your Pick,” and “Farewell II Flesh” demonstrate Spencer Charnas’s fascination with fright, pop culture obsession, and his expertise with inescapably wicked melodic hooks and clever twists of phrase. Dan Sugarman (guitar/vocals), Ricky Armellino (guitar/vocals), Patrick Galante (drums), and Joe Occhuiti (bass/vocals) are the current co-conspirators behind Spencer Charnas, who founded the band as a teen in the early 2000s. Decadent, devious, and fiercely insane, ICE NINE KILLS celebrate pop culture’s darkest edges, mining a cinephile library’s worth of iconic horror on The Silver Scream and The Silver Scream 2. The creative marriage made in hell of music and fiction began in earnest with the Top 5 Hard Rock album, Every Trick in the Book, which brought the previous three records’ themes to new levels.  Loudwire hails ICE NINE KILLS as “one of the most unique acts in metal right now.” The band’s synergy of music and lifestyle draws favorable comparisons to Slipknot and Rob Zombie. Visionary trailblazers and multimedia raconteurs, INK built a thrilling world for a growing legion of devoted true believers, with theatrical shows, high-concept videos, and inventive band-to-fan communion.  Since coming to life in 2005, In This Moment have presided over a diehard fan base under the watch of “mother” figure and frontwoman Maria Brink—joined by co-founder and lead guitarist Chris Howorth, bassist Travis Johnson, guitarist Randy Weitzel, and Kent Dimmel. As millions convened upon the group’s otherworldly and unforgettable concerts, they quietly emerged as one of the most influential and impactful bands of the 21st century. To date, in addition to the Gold-selling album, Blood , the quintet have garnered six Gold and Platinum singles, followed by a trifecta of Top 25 entries on the Billboard Top 200 with Black Widow  and Ritual . With a total stream tally well past 200 million as of 2020, Ritual elevated them to new creative and critical peaks as well. In 2022, the band released Blood 1983 , a reimagined EP commemorating the ten-year anniversary of Blood, and most recently had their song “I Would Die For You” appear on the soundtrack for John Wick: Chapter 4. Tickets for both concerts are on sale Friday, July 21st at 10:00am. Tickets can be purchased at WesBancoArena.com, calling 304-233-4470, or visiting the WesBanco Arena Box Office.
