2: a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!

i got another ask with this number, so i'll pick a different answer this time around! ig dayoun/the headcanon that damar and weyoun had, at the very least, romantic and sexual tension, is one of these. initially i was like "ehh i don't see it 🤔" but as time goes on i've not only come to Get It but also im insane abt them now. their relationship is a lot messier than the kind of ships i usually enjoy, but they have captivated me regardless lol

3: a character that fandom has helped you appreciate

ziyal! initially on my first watch of ds9 she didn't make much of an impression on me ngl. but after reading what ppl's thoughts on her were and seeing the fan content of her, i paid a lot more attention to her on my rewatch and found her to be a fascinating, compelling and tragic character. i'm glad the fanbase caused me to reevaluate the lens i was seeing her through. she really is such a wonderful character.

16: a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate

cretak and kira! their interactions! their potential!!!!! also just cretak in general tbh. she only has a handful of scenes but her chemistry with kira is so strong. her second actress is ok but the first actress who plays her makes her so effortlessly charismatic and oddly adorable while still keeping the feeling of being a powerful and dangerous romulan. she's such a good character and is far more interesting to me than like any other romulan character. i like how her actions are objectionable in one context but completely rational in another, and i like how she seems to genuinely like kira and enjoy her company. even though she's deceiving her the whole time, i like to think that the little spark between them was real. idk. she's a hot romulan butch also and i am weak and predictable...........ANYWAYS TLDR more kira and cretak appreciation NOWWWWW

Gosh. Always something to ramble about lol. Hmm I would like to see Bajoran culture become better developed within the fandom. And on a similar note, I’d love a Star Trek show that focuses more on normal everyday Earth life in the 24th century. Like, I sure as heck hope we’re not homogenous and people are diverse around the world and get to live as they want. Could be interesting. Maybe about alien friends who work at the various embassies and are experiencing it all as outsiders. I read a fic like that once. What are the San people or the Sentinelese or the Amish up to? Are there traditionalist groups that prefer to live using only technology up to the 21st century? What is the state of the Roman Catholic church and how’ve they adapted to aliens and interstellar travel? Did Jesus die for the Romulans’ sins as well? Can a Bolian be pope?? What methods of transportation do people living in very rural areas use if cars aren’t a thing anymore? Transporters take a lot of energy if you’re using them for tons of people constantly and walking, biking, and buses aren’t going to cut it. Self driving electric vehicles? How many aliens are there on Earth? Do they tend to gravitate towards each other and have their own neighborhoods in cities? Bajoran diaspora? Are there Jurassic Park-like (ethical) zoos with mammoths and troodons? Would a human child who grew up away from Earth even know what the heck a dinosaur is? I would assume they would learn the prehistorical creatures of whatever world they’re living on. Mons Olympus Planetary Park? How about a Moonlanding Memorial Building with those early footprints preserved in the middle of the Lunar Colony. What are the social complexities of being born/raised on Earth vs Luna vs Mars etc? How are there people living in mainstream Terran society (like Joseph Sisko) who apparently have never left the planet? I feel like field trips to the moon would be a thing??  Okay ran out of steam for now :) 

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what

A great deal of cracky things! None of them especially lasting in fandom memory, but to pick a couple, there’s my smutty ‘Julian used to date a tentacle monster’ fic, Octobussy, or a fic where Garak and Julian get together after Morn picks them both up at a party called The Mudflow. I try to have fun with my writing.

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)

It is to my great shame to say KiraDax. I support it, and I’ve tried hard to find a spark in my heart for it, and I’ve learned to kinda see where people are coming from with them but I just don’t think they’d work. Jadzia is all about new experiences/knowledge and having fun. Kira has had enough excitement in life and wants something quieter and settled and steady. That being said, I do still enjoy reading KiraDax fics because I love the both of them, and I find that people who tend to ship certain things have different insights and creative focuses than those who tend to ship other things (Kiradax vs garashir vs quodo vs dayoun), so it’s a great time and nice change of pace.

Deep Space Nine, gonna have to go with Damar/Weyoun! I just think that ones a lot of fun, and it’s definitely my current top OPT!

AtS/Buffy: Cordelia/Angel!! Look, I get everyone likes to say Buffy was his true love, but frankly I disagree! That was an infatuation, while Cordelia and Angel had a strong, trusting platonic bond that eventually deepened (although i hesitate to say that, it was already very deep!) and transformed into a romance. I still love this show, could go off on this for too long lmaooo

Farscape: Braca/Scorpius. Look it’s... barely subtext lol. In fact, I think by the end of season 4 it is just text-text. I think the trope of the sarcastic minion who has a crush on their grandiose supervillain boss is just too much fun

O - Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of

This is tough because I usually don’t associate songs with ships! I’ll cheat a little - there’s this song called Out of Control by Tim McMorris which reminds me a bit of Damar, and by extension, I guess Dayoun! The song is basically about a dude who somehow gets made into a king, and it’s a big old disaster that leads to everything crashing and burning before he can become whole again. The one line: “Look in the mirror and you’ll see that/It’s not worth wasting your time/With things that destroy your soul” reminds me a bit of the mirror kanar scene where Damar has his revelation

R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships

Utter crackship?? Solok/Damar because I think that would be funny. Solok attempts to snidely insult him, Vulcan-style, Damar takes it as flirtation, Cardassian-style. But more seriously probably Dax/Sisko, with the caveat that I only ship this if the relationship began with Curzon, otherwise it’s just “oh my friend is now a hot chick!” I just really love the idea of that love/romance lasting through different bodies and genders. There’s a couple shippers for it, but not many.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

Oh man tbh I’m pretty flexible, and even the HC’s I have I don’t really tend to get insanely attached to. I guess I probably tend to see more people as bi, just because I’m bi lol - so I HC that most of the Star Trek characters are bi😂, with the exception of Garak who frankly (despite Andy Robinson’s comments) I can’t really see as anything other than gay - although maybe that’s just my attempt to rid my memory of Ziyal/Garak

Can’t go wrong wit the classic Dayoun concept of damar getting blackout drunk and waking up the next morning in Weyoun’s bed. I like to imagine this but post canon with 9. Like it can be so much sweeter that way.

I mean, since I go against canon in all of my content and don’t even number the Weyoun clones and his relationship with Damar is like how the actors portray it, so it wouldn’t be super angsty anyway. Here’s what I immediately pictured when I got this ask:  [Damar wakes up in Weyoun’s bed. His hand brushes against the screen of a PADD.]

DAMAR[hoarsely]: What is this?

[The PADD shows a message from Weyoun. “You guzzled so much disgusting kanar last night that I had to corral you to my quarters. You weren’t worth the effort of shepherding all the way back to yours considering mine were far closer. Of course, right now I'm busy doing my job, unlike you. I left a glass of water out for you in the hopes that you’ll resist the urge to poison yourself for once in your sorry life.”]

DAMAR: What a hypocrite, claiming I poison myself. But what a romantic message. Maybe today won’t be as bad as I thought.

[He pushes himself out of the bed and in his hungover state, immediately steps on one of the broken bottles in Weyoun’s collection and screams.]

You know the Cardassian girl in Beta canon that Damar was with, right? The one that was in an accident that rendered her unable to have children? How often do you think Damar thinks about her, and how does he tell Weyoun about her?

I didn’t actually know about any of this but apparently the character’s name is Veja Ketan.

So, in my fics what I’ve gone with is that Damar and Niala (his wife) were matched due to a state program. Not based on personality, but instead on job, rank, fertility, etc.. A character like Damar has seen all the ways the State has corrupted older Cardassian values like family (whereas Garak wouldn’t know and only had his idealized concept of Cardassian life for so long). However, unlike many arranged Cardassian couples, Damar and Niala just couldn’t make things work for a variety of reasons, one of which being that despite Damar’s position he really doesn’t live up to the aggressive military archetype a man like Dukat does. Niala ended up having their son attend a boarding school and she and Damar divorced. 

I do think Damar wants a family and in his earlier days wanted to do what was mandated by the State, so I could see something like what happened with Ketan in beta canon occurring. If it did, it would just be yet another event Damar would feel horribly guilty about, but I don’t know how deep the relationship would have been? I headcanon Damar as never having been in mutual love before. I think he’d be open to discussing this is Weyoun asked or brought it up, since Weyoun knows all about Damar’s life history from Dominion intelligence reports. I picture something like this: 

“Your duty to the State demanding that you seek an arranged marriage has been completed. You're free to court whoever you like. The Dominion is open to your romantic happiness.”

“It has been, yes,” Damar said. “How fortunate for me. Is it open to yours?”

“I don't see why it wouldn't be... as long as my love for the Founders takes precedence, I should be permitted to experience a romantic relationship.” Something about Weyoun’s wide-eyed, stressed stare suggested to Damar that this was something he had thought about often, yet pointedly not asked the Founder about.
