Fun bit of etiquette difference between Reddit and Tumblr is if someone misuses a word on Reddit (wrong "their", "peak"/"pique", whatever) it's common to see someone in the replies correct it and the OP will be like "oh thank you. edited my comment to fix grammar error"
If you do that on Tumblr you get mauled with teeth.

i think we should all never expect someone to apologize for being a beginner to a language they didnt learn first always and forever and if youre mean to someone for learning i should personally get to kick your teeth in

i feel so insane about burrow's end i feel sick
like?? ok there are 3 episodes to go and I'm wearing a hole into the floor of my mind bec im pacing in circles??? the stoat family really said "kill them all, ask no questions" and succeeded? they basically committed a coup and they have no plan for the literal thousands of stoats in bast's end. there's gonna be a power vacuum and that's insane for a place that is basically a ultra-militarized stoat city. what are they gonna do, take over after having literally been there a single day?
and also tula and ava? wtf
im gonna throw up

I just don't get the argument that banning AI-generated works from ao3 would be pointless because people will continue to post AI works but stop labelling them as such, so they'll be harder to avoid. You can say that about literally any crime. There are always going to be people who ignore the rules, but that doesn't mean the rules should not exist.
Right now, AI-generated works are a novelty. People are posting them openly because it seems like fun. The posters of these fics (I will not call them authors) aren't trying to cheat anyone, they just find the concept neat and want to share them with others, but they're not actually trying to receive praise for something they didn't do.
The people who are trying to pass AI-generated works off as genuine fanworks are already doing so. If 50% of AI works currently on the archive are marked as such, and 50% are not, then banning AI works would result in the openly-AI works being removed. Of those, perhaps half of the people posting them would be so determined to do so anyway that they'll lie and repost them less-conspicuously—but that's still 25% fewer AI works on the archive. (and frankly I think this is being very generous about the number of genuine grifters)
Placeholder "fic to be written" works, "help me find this fic" works, and other works that treat the archive like a social media site are already against the terms of service. These can and do get reported and taken down. If you're a regular user of the archive you'll know that works like this still get posted on a pretty regular basis, but the fact that they're generally known to be against the TOS means there is a precedent to stop them becoming more commonplace.
AI-generated works are not fanworks. They simply aren't. They have no place taking up server space and pushing genuine creators further down in the search results, making it just a little bit harder for authors starting out to get noticed. They don't belong there any more than advertisements for discord servers or future fics.
The only other concern I've seen expressed is that genuine inexperienced authors might get mistaken for AI-posters and reported. Personally, I think it's still pretty easy to tell the difference between the structurally perfect but utterly soulless prose of AI and the error-ridden works of inexperienced human authors, but assuming that changes...it's already basically impossible to get fics taken down that don't openly admit to breaking the rules. These reports are assessed by real people and the Archive's policy is maximum inclusiveness when there is any doubt whatsoever.
If all a ban on AI-works does is remove the hundreds of fics that are currently open about being AI-generated, that is already enough for it to be a good thing, even if it does lead to a few more being posted in secret

hi ::) whats ur favorite word?
first ordeal, I'm studying linguistics. I know my words, you just hit an awesome nerve
the simplest answer is "Kurwa", because it's a beautiful word and such a useful one at that
however, i cannot use it. I have a speech defect that makes me sound funny when I curse out my friends. I have been told that I sound "cute" when I yell it but like I just called you a slut!!! bitch!!!
I know that it isn't a question about swear words but they are infinitely more interesting to talk about then normal words, so to answer your question - my favourite word is: "jeb"
What is "jeb" you ask - its an onomatopoeia. Simplest translation is "FUCKING SLAM" in all caps, just like that. Surprisingly useful!
Real life example from a conversation I had a week ago:
"I'll be sitting in my room all quiet then JEB kurwa my neighbor shut the door so hard the walls shook and he wasn't even done I'm trying to focus as he goes JEB JEB fucking insane"
Beautiful word!
You know I'm not even done with it! Jeb can be just the core of many, many beautiful words. Basically it's a core word to be used to make a swear word out of a verb. A few examples:
jebać - to fuck
zajebać - to fucking steal/kill/punch
przyjebać - to fucking punch
ojebać - to fucking eat whole
and also other useful words like
zajebiście - fucking awesome
Fun fact! You can do the same things with cores "kurwa" and "pierdolić" snd others so have fun with that
Another fun fact, with slight changes this will ALSO work in other Slavic languages (which is literally my studies rn), like in Czech or Ukrainian I think, and all the others will have some version of that. Definitely "Kurva"
My most favourite non-swear word is probably szczęście because foreigners make funny wide eyes at that

since we are on this topic with @hoonvrs
you're a terrible writer always flirting, can't write to save it's life and stuff like get a life you.
Like you complain about having a post flop LIKE MAYBE IMPROVE YOUR NON-EXISTENT WRITING SKILLS.
It's embarassing lol. Even your moots hate you (do you even have any), which you BARELY have. They're all going to run away after realising how much of a brat you are and how useless you are like my torn trashbag maybe of more worth.

Sometimes I really kind of envy you native English speakers who make writing and posting fics seem so fucking easy. With near perfect grammar and hardly any typos. Or those of you who are capable of writing & updating your fics whenever the muse hits you just right... and not like, once in six months. Actually, try two years lol.
Whereas me, a non-native speaker, who occasionally struggles even with basic English grammar:
I'm fine. Totally.

a handful of chinese songs that give me big robit energy
translating cpop songs is like my second favourite hobby so it's frankly surprising I haven't made this post sooner
Him - Floruitshow (马 - 福禄寿)
I've talked about this song on here before but this is the 3.7 song for me
the second chorus is definitely MR-SN but i like to think of the first chorus (Let me take a good look at your visage as we count down the time till the curtains’ close. Forgive me for holding back my voice so soon, do you know, in your graceful escape, all I see around me is disaster?) as VR-LA during the flashback sequence
specifically 'all I see around me is disaster' because yeah not wrong
'This time I’m not here to bring you home' just kills me like the please please take care of yourself because I can't be there with you anymore of it all
'Oh spring, oh warm sun, please come sooner, grant him a smooth and safe journey' same point, just the desperate plea for the universe to protect VR-LA because he can't do it himself anymore
How can I make you stay - Floruitshow (我用什么把你留住 - 福禄寿)
(conveniently I have actually done a full translation of this song!)
definitely one of the Maxim songs of all time
"You’ve believed that you can let your life pass in numbness, but [...] why do your tears fall in the moment of letting go?' YEAH because we've seen so many times how Maxim keeps trying to convince himself that he can stop just caring but it never works
'You say don’t fall in love, yet you’re unwilling to let go' same point, this man is in such denial about how he just can't stop caring
specifically the second verse feels a lot like Maxim waiting for VR-LA to return from Tu'narath
'You stay silent, holding onto starlight as you wait through your darkest hour. Your mind is struck, when familiar murmurs pierce your ears once more' aaaAAAAHH
the bridge (?) as a conversation between VR-LA and Maxim, VR-LA inviting Maxim to see the beauty and wonders of the world ('Do you want to see the sea of flowers blooming?', very 4.5 wedding invite honestly) but Maxim's trauma just would not allow him to take that risk ('If none of them come back, then who should I live for?')
fun fact the second version of the bridge in my translation ('You must stay to see the flowers bloom' onwards) is exclusive to that live performance of the song so it's not in the spotify version i linked here. as for which version you think fits Maxim more.. well.
Borrow - Mao Buyi (借 - 毛不易)
finally banging out a translation for this song was kinda the inspiration for me to make this post actually
the tldr of this song is that it's an unnamed/unidentified speaker asking to borrow various small things for the sake of somebody else (like 'an inch of frozen sunlight' to provide warmth in a cold world) so you can probably see where i'm going with this
'A simple ‘we have plenty of time’ etched into the soul to prepare for the chance of forced separation' ouch ow okay
'Those blown apart by these winds will say that they never loved deeply' / 'There is a sincerity that cannot be blown apart by this wind' DX-TR betraying the old crew vs VR-LA fighting through so much just to get them back
'There are tears that cannot be washed away by this rain' this line just haunts me. like in general
'An acre of land for him to call home, an ordinary life for him to live' as MR-SN watching over the old crew like I can't be there for you but I hope you will find peace and a home...

Can someone who is familiar with English grammar and they/them pronouns explain how to use them? You'd say "she does" and "he does" but "they do", if you were using the plural pronoun.
But when someone's own pronouns are they/them you're NOT using the plural (right?). If I were to correctly use the they/them pronoun would I say something like "this is Alex, they does ceramic art"? Or would you keep the verb conjugation plural for the sake of clarity, "this is Alex, they do ceramic art"?
Please don't think this is a sarcastic joke or I'm poking fun at nb people! I'm genuinely curious. I want to do it correctly even if I need to learn to use new grammar. I'm a HUGE grammar stickler generally but the plural pronoun argument is embarrassing to English nerds everywhere. I don't want to add to the problem, you know?

I don’t have a very strong accent so I’ve been used to southern English folk saying, often in surprise, that I don’t sound Scottish (haha) or that I sound posh.
HOWEVER I’ve also heard them claim that they still don’t understand me and while I could interpret that as people with a lazy ear being rude, or perhaps they have a few understandable auditory processing issues (look comprehending speech is DIFFICULT, I struggle with it myself though not usually because of the speaker’s accent, just the speed at which you’re expected to consume ideas). However I’ve come to another conclusion lately- it might also be the grammar.
Apparently saying ‘I’ll not be a minute’ to some people is just as unintelligible as the deepest Doric and I really think we need to have a better appreciation for the quiet Scotticisms as much as the loud ones.

I am TIRED of hearing the whole "there is NO reason a paragraph shouldn't be more than four lines" writing critique. If Ursula Le Guin can write an asshole psychiatrist monologuing for a page and a half straight, it is FINE, actually.
You can have characters monologue, you can have a long bit of description, you can give exposition in chunks—the issue is when there's no PURPOSE to it and it's treated as a prerequisite dump of information rather than a curated telling.
As long as you're making choices about language and what is being conveyed so that it's relevant and matches the style, it's fine.
