Six years ago you went on a family vacation to Colombia, which was literally the worst time to go on vacation to Colombia, your parents, though, had money and money meant comfortability if you put it in the right places, and apparently they had.
Six years ago, you met Javier Peña at a bar on a side of town you promised your parents you wouldn’t go to, you were of age, of course, your parents were just insistent that if you wandered too far from your cushy hotel, that you’d be wrapped up in something you weren’t prepared for.
You thought they were so ridiculous when Javier sat himself beside you and ordered a whiskey dry, eyes drifting towards you briefly like he was trying to figure something out before he spoke. “You don’t look like you’re from around here, Chiquita.” You’d been looking over towards a few couples dancing near the middle of the bar, bodies pressed close together as they moved in sync with the music, so when he spoke to you it surprised you a bit and had you double checking that he was talking to you.
You scratched the back of your neck. “It’s that obvious?” Javier chuckled softly and pinched his fingers close together. “Just a bit.” He hummed and looked at the couples you’d been watching as his drink was sat down in front of him. “You like the dancing?”
You looked towards the couples and felt your cheeks warm up as you cleared your throat before turning back to him and pinching your fingers close together like he had. “Just a bit.” He looked at you and raised a brow as he chuckled, nodding. “Okay, okay.” He set his glass down and then held his hand out to you. “Javier Peña.” You smiled and reached out to shake his hand, telling him your own name, feeling your cheeks warm up again when he repeated it.
He had you hooked.
Another drink between you and Javier had convinced you to try the dancing you’d been so enamored with, though when you actually thought about it, it was less dancing and more just.. moving against eachother to music, not that you minded, at all.
The conversation you shared while dancing was quiet, whispered just loud enough to be heard between the two of you as Javier asked what you could only assume was every question that popped into his head.
“What are you doing in Colombia? Medellin specifically?” “Family vacation, I had to get away from my parents and siblings.” “Oh, ya veo. Una huida querida.” Oh I see. A run away darling He’d chuckled, making you shrug sheepishly. “I guess so.” You’d said softly, your fingers fiddling with the collar of his jacket absentmindedly. “¿Cuánto tiempo?” How long? He asked.
Just half a drink more and you were letting Javier take you back to his apartment, as soon as the door was closed he was planting his lips on yours, his leather jacket being thrown to the floor before you heard the clink of keys hitting a table somewhere off to the side.
In his bedroom he nudged you back on his bed, your clothes now completely discarded on the floor of his apartment while he was still fully dressed. He had you cumming on his tongue twice before his clothes were off and he was climbing on top of you, you could see two gleams from the corner of your eye but you wouldn’t give that a thought until afterward.
You weren’t sure what possessed you to say it, it wasn’t a lie of course, but you had to be literally insane to say it, but when Javier reached towards his nightstand, where you assumed his condoms sat, you’d grabbed his wrist and looked up at him, shifting a little. “I’m clean and uh… I’m on birth control.. so.. we don’t have to use one. As long as.. yknow, you’re clean?”
After a couple reassurances that you were both clean and completely okay with what was about to happen, Javier was on you again, tongue tangled with yours as he positioned himself between your legs and slid into you, letting out a few Spanish expletives into your neck that you couldn’t quite make out, partially because his face was pressed into your skin, but also because you were letting out your own curses.
You’d never been with a guy as big as Javier. Girthy like him? Yes. Long like him? Yes. Both at the same time? Absolutely not. You hadn’t even thought it was something that was possible, that may be an over exaggeration but you couldn’t care less about that because that’s how it felt with Javier pushed all the way inside you, pressing kisses to your sweaty skin, damp from the Colombian heat. How and why the fuck was he wearing a god damn leather jacket in that shit?
“Mírame, querida.” Look at me, darling Javier hummed, noticing your eyes had started to drift to the areas around you, not to be nosey but just because looking at Javier with the way he was fucking into you, hair slick against his forehead and his skin absolutely fucking glowing with the orange light pouring into his room. You whimpered softly and shook your head a bit before Javier was grabbing your chin and making you look at him. “Dije. Mírame.” I said. Look at me. His tone was deeper that time and you didn’t dare look away from him after that.
After he had you good and fucked out, leaking more than one load, he laid beside you and grabbed a cigarette from his nightstand, letting you roll over into his side, you’d felt him tense a little bit against you and thought it was odd at the time, how he could fuck the daylights out of you but still tense up when you tried to cuddle. When you went to pull away, though, thinking maybe he just wasn’t the cuddling type or even the type to let you lean on him afterwards, thinking maybe he wanted you to go.
You felt his arm wrap around your waist tighter, completely silent with his head turned to you, eyes silent but pleading, begging you to stay. So, you settled back down, and then he was pulling into his side, each movement to get you closer just a little more hesitant than the last until you were pulled tight against his side, his fingers just barely tracing up and down your back.
You’d watched him smoke, any conversation between the two of you near-silent whispers like you were afraid to disturb the nice silence that had settled between you. Once his cigarette was out you thought maybe then he would make you leave, but his other arm circled around you, and then he was offering to share a shower before you left.
It was in the movements to get up for the shower that you saw the gun, and then the badge beside it, and suddenly all his hesitancy, the paranoid looking around you’d noticed in the bar, the constant tenseness in his muscles, the way he’d seemed to try and loom over you, protect you, it all clicked and made sense.
You didn’t ask him about it, if he wanted you to know surely he would’ve mentioned it or something, so you pretended like you hadn’t even noticed them, slipping off the bed with him and following him to a shower filled with soothing, soapy touches and soft kisses on bruised and nail-bitten skin, muttering Spanish apologies muffled by your skin and the sound of running water.
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Maybe it was the several rounds before you ultimately had to leave so your family wouldn’t notice you missing, or the several times you’d told Javier he could just cum inside you, or if his sperm was just that god damn strong, or maybe it was the fact that you’d forgotten to get your birth control refilled when you’d taken the last one.
Whatever it was, five years ago, you gave birth to a beautiful baby girl with big brown puppy dog eyes and a head full of gorgeous brown curls. She looked like Javier in every way, and while you were glad she was just absolutely gorgeous, it reminded you of a wonderful night you’d never get to relive again.
When your parents found out you’d gotten pregnant, and then ultimately found out that meant you’d gone somewhere they’d told you not to go, they’d almost completely disowned you, of course, they promised to overlook it all if you would just get an abortion and “free yourself the burden of being a mother” which is the exact way your parents had put it, no single added on, just “mother”.
Fuming, you’d told them to go fuck themselves and moved as far away from them as you could. Which was Laredo, Texas, of course there were places further away, but you’d always dreamed of living in Texas, and living in a small town was even better. Laredo hadn’t been your first choice, but after several homes in several towns that didn’t feel right, you’d finally found a quaint little home for you and your baby girl.
Your siblings hadn’t been on your side either, which was no surprised to you, they followed your parents around like puppies, eager to get their inheritance by whatever means necessary.
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
“¡Mami! ¡Mami! ¡Despierta! I want to play!” Mommy! Mommy! Wake up! You were woken up by a tiny little body jumping up and down on your bed, demanding you play. You reached one hand out from under your duvet and start pressing your hand on different parts of your daughter’s torso and head, the girl giggling wildly as you wiggled your finger in her ear for the ‘snooze button’.
“Where in the world did this Valeria shaped clock come from?!” You laughed with your daughter before pulling her under the blanket as she squealed. You pulled the blanket over the two of you as she giggled and moved her long curls out of her tiny face, looking at you with all the love a little girl could muster.
“Buenos días mami.” Goodmorning, mommy. She said happily. You smiled and pressed a kiss to her little nose. “Buenos días, muñequita.” Goodmorning, little doll You said softly, tracing the bridge of her nose. “What’s today’s word, mommy?” You laughed softly. “Gee can I soak in your belleza first?” “I know that one! It’s beauty!” You smiled. “Very good.” You kissed her cheek before coming out from under the covers with her, pulling her into your lap.
You hummed as you thought, chin pressed to the top of her head. “How about… tareas?” She looked up at you expectantly for the translation, blinking those big eyes. “Chores.” You laughed softly. “It’s chores.” She groaned loudly and threw herself back. “Like sweeping?” “Well it’s more than sweeping.” “But you’re always sweeping.” “That’s because you’re always refusing to take your shoes off at the front door and you keep tracking dirt in my house.” You started tickling her sides as she squealed loudly and thrashed around, giggling.
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
After a promise of ice cream, a trip to the park afterward, and McDonald’s for dinner, Valeria agreed to celebrate her word of the day by doing some chores with you. Your first trip was to the baby store for new clothes for Valeria, who was growing like a weed, needing a new pair of shoes every month it felt like, either that or you just let her play too rough, she was never bruised though so you could handle constantly buying shoes and clothes because she ripped them or got them dirty.
After the clothing store you had to pick up some mail from the post office, after the post office you had to go grocery shopping for just a few things you could never seem to keep in the house, probably because Valeria was basically a vacuum for anything food related, luckily none of it was refrigerated so when you remembered you had to stop at the home improvement store for fertilizer for your roses out front, you didn’t have to worry about leaving it in the car.
You were pushing a cart with fertilizer and a few pieces of wood for that hole in your fence to fix later, it wouldn’t be perfect but it would have to work until you could get a babysitter for Valeria so you could actually fix it. Speaking of Valeria, she was walking beside you, making a game out of stepping on certain tiles on the floor while you were trying to make sure you had everything you needed for the day.
That was when you heard it. A tiny little oof that you immediately recognized as your daughter’s voice, followed by a rushed and soft. “Mierda. ¿Estás bien, damita?” Shit. Are you okay, little lady? There’s no fucking way..
You cocked your head quickly and widened your eyes. Javier Peña was knelt right in front of your daughter, his daughter. “Valeria, please.” You rushed over to them and gently picked her up, dusting off her shirt. “¿Estás bien?” Are you okay? You asked softly as she nodded. “Estoy bien, mami.” Valeria said softly. I’m okay, mommy
You looked up from her as you heard Javier say your name. At first you wouldn’t look at him, but hesitantly you turned your eyes to his and cleared your throat. “Hi, Javi.” You said softly, standing up with Valeria on your hip.
Javier stood up slowly, his brows furrowed a bit as he looked between you and your daughter, pointing to her. “Is she-“ “mine.” You cleared your throat, nodding as you adjusted her on your hip, glancing away nervously. Javier watched you closely and slowly retracted his hand as he repeated your name. “Look I.. I can’t really talk about this right now.” Valeria was starting to get antsy in your arms, wanting to wriggle free and run around.
“Um…” you hesitated before slowly sitting her down and grabbing your pen from the cart. “I guess I can… give you our address and… and you can come by… later.. after she’s asleep and then.. then we can talk. Okay?” Javier was staring down at Valeria, watching her run circles around the two of you. “… okay.” He looked at you and managed to fish an old receipt from his pocket for you to write your address down. “Just uh.. come by at 8:30.. she’s usually asleep by then. Well, she’s usually in bed, I’m pretty sure she pretends to be asleep sometimes.”
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
As soon as he left the home improvement store Javier drove to Steve and Connie’s, who’d moved to Laredo shortly after Steve returned back to the states, Steve insisted it was Connie’s idea and Connie insisted the opposite, but Javier was pretty sure it was both.
When he got there he knocked on the door until Steve pulled it open. “Javi- what the fuck are you doin’?” “I think I’m about to fucking die.” “What? You look fine to me what the fuck are you talking about?”
Javier pushed his way into Steve’s house and started pacing around the living room. “Javi?” Connie peeked out from the kitchen and raised her brows when she saw Javi’s state. “… I’m gonna get the whiskey.” She stepped back into the kitchen.
Javier replayed what happened in the home improvement store while Steve sat down and Connie came in with the glasses and whiskey, pouring Steve and Javier one before sitting down.
“Okay- so- I was at the home improvement store- one of the god damn horses broke out of the stables and wrecked a bunch of shit so I had to go and get wood and nails and shit-“ “is this why you’re freaking out?” “What? Don’t be stupid. No. Just- listen.” Javier extended one hand. “Anyway I was at the home improvement store… and it turns out I’m a dad.”
Steve was taking a sip from his whiskey and immediately choked on it, spitting it out into the glass and looking at Javier with wide eyes. He looked at Connie and Steve, hands on his hips. “Well… you sure are fast.” “I’m gonna kill you, Steve. Shut the fuck up.” Javier pointed at him.
“Okay- wait- just… go back a few steps. Between the stable and being a dad.” Connie held her hands out to him. “Sit down first.” Javier as a dad… she could see it, he was good with Olivia and although nervous around their new baby Jack, he was good with him as well.
Javier sat down and cleared his throat. “Okay- I was walking and I was looking at the list dad wrote so I would get everything. And I bumped into this little girl- god she’s so tiny… como una muñequita” like a little doll a small smile ghosted his features. “Anyway- fuck I’m getting off track- I knocked her on her ass, don’t look at me like that Steve I will shoot you right now.” Steve held his hands up as Connie rolled her eyes. “Javi.” “Right. Sorry. Her mom comes over.. remember uh… that girl I told you about?” He raised a brow at Steve. “The one that wasn’t an informant?”
Steve looked at Connie from the corner of his eye as she raised a brow and then slowly looked at Javier. “…. Yes.” “Okay- don’t be weird, it was nothing like that Connie, I was a complete gentleman when I spoke of her.” “Right… well I gotta hear about this girl.”
Javier proceeded to tell Connie about the night you had, obviously not the sex part, but everything leading up to it, how comfortable he’d felt with you, how he’d gone to the bar just to drink his sorrows away and go home, maybe see Gabriella, but you were sitting at the bar and you were so gorgeous in the light with just a little sheen of sweat and he talked about how you’d watched the couples dance, how he’d asked you to dance, which had both of them wide eyed and had Connie gripping Steve’s arms with her nails.
He talked about the conversation you’d had dancing, about what you would be doing for the rest of your time there, how long you would be there, which ended up not being long enough to see you again with how hectic things had gotten, at this point Connie was slapping Steve’s arm all over.
“Javi you like her!” She practically screeched. “W- I mean we had a good night but-“ “dude.” Steve chuckled and shook his head. “You danced with her.” He looked him up and down. “I’ve never even seen you jump for anything but a sicario. You’re not a dancer.”
“Okay but she wanted to try it.” Connie and Steve raised a brow at him again, waiting for him to fully understand what they were saying. He blinked rapidly and started shaking his head. “I’m here because I’m a dad!” He groaned and rubbed his face. “I’m supposed to meet her at 8:30. What if she doesn’t want me to be around her?”
“Well… if she told you where they live, then I’m pretty sure she probably wants you around her.” Connie sighed and stood up to go over to Javi and rub his back. “Don’t worry about what we said, I’m just excited for you.” She laughed softly. “You’re gonna be a good dad.” Steve hummed like he was thinking before immediately agreeing when Connie glared at him. “Of course you will, Jav. You’re good with our kids.”
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
The rest of your day was spent trying to calm your nerves and getting Valeria ready for bed. Thankfully the trip to the park and running around in the McDonald’s inside playground really tuckered her out, so by 8:20 you were laying her completely conked out form in her tiny bed.
The next ten minutes you ran around the house trying to make it at least look like you had a handle on things. Which you did, but keeping a house clean with a five year old that had endless energy from hours 6 to 8 was like keeping a zoo clean.
There was a knock at exactly 8:30 and for a second you thought it couldn’t actually be Javi, he’d told you he was punctual but he wasn’t even a second late. You pulled the door open and sure enough Javier stood on the other side chewing on his thumbnail. When you opened the door he straightened up and cleared his throat.
The air was awkward as you invited him in and it just got more awkward as you led him to the couch, your home flooded with pictures of all of Valeria’s firsts so far, it was awkward when you asked if he wanted something to drink, and even more awkward when you couldn’t decide if you were supposed to sit beside him or in front of him.
Eventually, though, you slowly placed yourself next to him and looked down at your hands, not sure how to start the conversation. Javier was looking at you, though, you couldn’t really tell what the look was. “… Valeria’s a pretty name.”
You finally looked at him and smiled tightly. “Thanks.” You whispered softly, taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry I never told you it’s just- I mean we left like a week after that and I didn’t exactly have your number- I could’ve written you a letter but how the fuck would I even- ‘dear Javi, hi, remember me? Yeah, well, I’m pregnant- have a nice life’? I’m not an idiot, Javi, I know what your job is, you didn’t have time to be a dad, besides, I knew what that was that night, I wasn’t expecting a proposal or co-parenting or anything like that.” You shook your head.
Javier frowned deeply. “I would’ve liked to know.. so I could be there for you, both of you. Somehow.” You looked down and nodded. “I know. I’m sorry.” You said softly. “I guess I… I should’ve written you or something… but I was scared that…” “scared that what?”
You sighed and glanced at him before looking back at your hands. “.. my parents wanted me to get an abortion and… I guess I was just scared you would say the same thing.”
Javier was silent this time and you could see him wringing his hands together in his lap. “.. I couldn’t do it.” You mumbled softly. “I didn’t even.. consider doing it.” You shook your head and looked down. You had no problems with abortions, people could have as many as they damn well wanted.
But the idea of you lying on a cold table while they sucked an actual human being from your uterus, or however the fuck they did it, had made you physically ill, guilt had settled in your stomach at just the proposition of having one.
Of course, that probably had something to do with the fact that you always wanted to be a mother, as cliche as it sounded, ever since you’d gotten your first babydoll that was the one thing you wanted more than anything else. To be a mommy. And Javi made you one… you should thank him for that, make it up to him somehow.
“She… is she… happy?” Javi asked quietly, looking down at his hands as you looked at him, smiling softly and nodding. “Yeah.. she’s so happy, Javi.” She said softly, swallowing thickly as the guilt started to settle in your gut, you should’ve told him. He looks… conflicted, like he’s trying to decide how to feel about it all.
“… does she know about me?” His voice was soft, you didn’t think he could sound so.. unsure of himself. “I… well I told her that.. her daddy was somewhere else… making it safer for her to grow up.” You felt your cheeks warm up, looking down when Javi turned his head to look at you, just barely catching the way his eyes softened and the tension in his shoulders melted. “She never- I never let her watch the news reports so she doesn’t know that you’re her dad. But.. but she knows you’re out there.” You said softly.
“She..” you laughed softly. “She actually uh… when she first started talking the first thing I did was teach her how to pray just… out of habit, Y’know?” You shook your head. “Anyway… every time she prays before dinner or before bed… she uh… she prays that her papi superhéroe superhero daddy stays safe and.. catch the chicos malos.” You laughed softly bad guys
Javi was listening so intently, leaning so close, and then he leaned back and blinked a few times. “She thinks I’m a superhero?” No. No, no, no. Javi wasn’t a superhero. He was the farthest fucking thing from a superhero. Sleeping with his informants, working with Los Pepes, getting innocent people caught in the crossfire, all that shit he did.. superheroes don’t do those things.
You nodded a little. “Yeah.” You said softly, shrugging a little. “I mean- she’s five, Javi.” You laughed softly. “What five year old doesn’t see her dad as a superhero?” Fuck he’s gonna cry. He’s gonna fucking cry in front of you right here right now like an ugly blubbering baby.
“I’m not.” His voice came out shaky, his hands even shakier. You shrugged your shoulders a little. “No one thinks they’re a superhero- I mean- except for Batman and Superman and shit but they’re fictional. But you… you’re real.” You nudged him. “A real superhero.” You hummed softly. “Off somewhere else trying to make the world safe. That’s pretty much the definition of “hero”.”
Javi looked up at you like his entire world had shifted, which, you guessed it technically had, Javi got up this morning a single guy with minimal responsibilities, and by noon he was finding out he was a dad and had a baby mama.
He’d never really thought about being a dad, the few times it had crossed his mind, like when he’d seen Lorraine when he first got back, seen her kids, he considered being a dad, trying to settle down with a girl and have a family.. he could never see it. And then he found out.. he was a dad, he did have a family.
“… can I meet her?” He whispered after a while of silence, that conflicted look on his face before it softened and he was relaxing on his elbows before turning his head to you, looking at you with those same puppy dog eyes he’d looked at you with in the bar that night, and just like back then, there was no saying no.
You nodded slowly. “… yeah. Yeah you can. Of course you can.” You smiled softly. His eyes brightened up a little, still soft and curious, but eager now as he started to stand up. “Wait-“ you laughed and grabbed his wrist, looking at the watch and shaking your head. “Not tonight. It’s already after nine, she would’ve asked for some milk by now if she was up.” You coaxed him into sitting back down as he nodded hesitantly. “And.. I don’t want to overwhelm her at the end of the day.”
“Oh.. okay.” He cleared his throat and nodded, rubbing his thighs and nodding more. “Right. Obviously. That makes sense.” He took a deep breath and scratched his chin. “So how… how have you been?”
You smiled softly and nodded. “I’ve been good, working or taking care of Valeria.” You said softly. “How’ve you been?” Javier nodded. “Good, good. Working.” He cleared his throat a little. “… I’m sorry I never told you, Javi.” You said softly.
He looked at you and shook his head. “No, no it’s okay. It would’ve been dangerous for you to send a letter, Escobar had ties into every fucking thing… it would’ve put you in danger.” He took a deep breath. “I’m glad you’re letting me meet her, Querida.” He said softly.
You felt your cheeks heat up again and thought at this point you were probably steaming from your ears. Being around Javi again was bringing up all those feelings and thoughts you saved for night time, late when the world was asleep and you could have a few minutes to yourself.
“Of course, Javi. She deserves to know her daddy.” You reached out and slowly took his hand in yours. “And you deserve to know your daughter. I know you keep saying it was okay but it wasn’t. I robbed you both of so much just.. because I was scared and that wasn’t right.”
Javi turned his hand over and laced your fingers together slowly, taking a deep breath. “You don’t have a boyfriend that’s gonna freak out or anything?” You raised a brow at him and slowly smiled as you shook your head. “No. No I don’t have a boyfriend.” You laughed softly.
Truthfully you hadn’t been with anyone since Javi. The first nine months was obvious, you were pregnant and you were not about to sleep with some weird fetish guy, that’s what fingers and toys are for. And of course, once Valeria was born you liked to blame it on never having the time, but truthfully, with the elderly neighbors absolutely obsessed with Valeria, you could find a babysitter whenever you needed one, you just… going out while Javier’s baby, his genetic product, was waiting for you felt.. dirty, like a betrayal of some kind.
“Good that’s.. good. I meant not good but I’m glad there’s not any guy that I’m gonna have to punch out or something cause I’m pretty sure if anyone tried to stop me from meeting her I might kill them.” Javier nodded his head, so serious. “Okay, Rambo.” You laughed softly and laid your hand on his shoulder.
“I’ll give you my number and you can just call before you come over? I wanna make sure this place looks… not like a zoo by the time you get here, and knowing her it definitely will.” Javier laughed and nodded. “Okay.” He said softly, looking down with a smile as you got up to write your number down, glancing at him as you chewed on your lip.
“I.. I’d love for you to stay and catch up but… I’m afraid I might pass out on you so… you should probably get going. I’m not trying to kick you out or anything I’m just… very tired it’s been a long day. We went to the park and then she didn’t want to leave and then we went to McDonald’s and she didn’t want to leave the inside playground.” You shook your head. “It’s been a lot of chasing her around and bribing her with food and ice cream.”
While it was true, Valeria had really have you a run for your money with her energy today. The deep burning in your stomach is what was making you urge Javier out of your house, out of your orbit, and his scent out of your god damn nostrils because why the fuck does he smell so good and why is it literally everywhere?
Javier chuckled and nodded as he stood up and took the piece of paper you extended to him, the two of you lingering there for a minute, eyes locked in a silent, warm gaze that got warmer and warmer, causing that already hot pit to grow larger and warmer, urging you to get close to him, hold onto him and not let him leave this time.
“… I’ll see you tomorrow, querida.” You nodded, swallowing thickly as you walked him to the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow Javi.” You smiled softly and tilted your head to press a light kiss to his cheek. “Goodnight. Drive safe.”
Javier leaned into the kiss you pressed to his cheek, eyelids fluttering shut as he was thrown back to that night, how you’d kissed his cheek in the bar, and then again in his jeep on the way to his apartment, how you’d trailed the kisses from his cheek to his neck when he was buried inside you, and then again, laughing as you accepted his offer to take you back to your family’s hotel, nearly exploding when you’d told him you’d planned to take a cab, and then a final time outside the hotel, how you’d placed little kisses from his cheek all the way to his lips before saying goodnight.
He wouldn’t kiss you tonight, no matter how much those soft lips made him want to throw you back inside and just build off this little family he’d unintentionally put together. But he could behave. He had to behave. So, he returned the kiss to your opposite cheek, his thick arms enveloping you in a hug before he was sliding away from you and going to his Jeep with a final smile and wave before he got in, waiting for you to get inside before driving off.
He was a dad.
Holy fucking shit.

To The Flame chapter twelve
Tumblr media
Series masterlist
Pairing: Dark!Javier Peña x afab!reader
Chapter w/c: 2.6k
Chapter warnings: mentions of physical abuse, manipulation, mental abuse, steve and connie!!, fluff but like backhanded fluff?, Javi being a dick, alcohol consumption, mild description of injury
Chapter Summary: Javi takes you out on your date and you meet some potential friends
A/N: Hey, y'all! Super excited about this one! These character introductions mean a lot to this story. Hope you like it! (also sorry about not posting last week, pls forgive me ❤)
*****
“Shit,” you mutter.
You’re staring at yourself in the mirror, fixated on the ugly welt marring your right cheekbone. Your right eye is a bit swollen as well, but not too badly. You’re mostly worried about how the hell you’re going to hide the discoloring. Even with your makeup, it’s going to be a feat.
It makes your stomach twist up to remember last night’s events. You still don’t understand why you had chosen to freak out like that. It was completely immature and irrational. He was just worried about you and you chose to berate him for it.
Thankfully, Javi seems to have completely forgiven you for your outburst. He woke up as normal this morning, planted a kiss on your forehead, and made your breakfast. You smile to think about it. Despite everything that happened yesterday, everything today is back as it should be, just how you like it.
You sigh and turn the sink on. You’ll wash your face and get dressed, then worry about this monstrosity last. You’re excited for your date. Javi told you that he’ll be taking you to a small restaurant a few blocks from the apartment. He’s out running an errand right now, or so he said. He wasn’t very specific, but he did promise to be back in time for your dinner date.
You lean down and splash your face with the cool water, suppressing a wince as it hits your bruised flesh. You really didn’t realize the hit had landed that hard. You scrub it anyway, being careful to not press too hard. You don’t think Javi got a very good look at it this morning, which is probably a good thing. He’d likely be devastated to know he caused such an injury.
You finish washing your face and reach for your dress hanging on the back of the door. It’s one of Javi’s favorites, and you’re excited to finally have an excuse to wear it again. You slip it over your head and turn around to zip the back with the help of the mirror. You pull at the edge and smooth it out so it falls effortlessly just above your knees.
It’s a beautiful color in contrast with your skintone, hell, it’s a beautiful dress in general. You smile at your appearance in the mirror. It’s not often you feel confident, but this dress never fails to bring it out of you. Maybe that’s why Javi likes it so much, too.
You hear the front door open as you fix one of the sleeves of the dress, a smile spreading across your face at the sound. Javi calls your name in greeting and your stomach flutters.
“I’m in here,” you call back. His footsteps grow closer.
“You ready, sweetheart?”
You peek your head out from the bathroom, careful to hide your right side behind the door frame. Javi’s standing in the middle of the bedroom. He looks gorgeous—as usual. He’s wearing a blue button up with his jeans and his regular boots.
“Yup, I’ll be just a second.”
“Alright, baby, take your time. There’s no rush.” He sends you a wink.
You flash him a quick smile before ducking back in and cracking the door behind you. You pick up your compact and lean in close to the mirror. The first layer doesn’t do much at all. The second makes a small difference, and by the third, all that’s left is to touch up certain spots. Even then though, you know there’s nothing you can do about the swelling of your eye and one of the deeper bruises. You take a step back. It doesn’t look so bad when you’re not too close.
You sigh and finish up the rest of it, only putting everything away once you’re satisfied that you look pretty much normal. Like it’s any other date night. You turn the light off and step out of the bathroom.
“Javi?”
“In the kitchen, sweetheart.”
You follow his voice, finding him leaning against the kitchen counter and craning his neck slightly to look out the window.
You grin as you step into view, giving him a small twirl and watching his smile widen when his gaze lands on you. You do your best to hide your right side, but try to be casual enough that he won’t think that’s what you’re trying to do.
“You look gorgeous, baby,” he says, walking toward you with open arms.
You let him embrace you in a hug, wrapping your own arms around his middle as he presses a kiss to the top of your head. “Thank you, Javi,” you mumble into his chest.
He lets you go after a moment and picks something up from the counter.
“Here, hermosa, got something for you” he offers you the bouquet of flowers. You gasp, sure that it’s the most beautiful bunch you’ve ever seen. That must have been why he went out. You’ll really never get over how thoughtful he is. It must have taken him a while to pick these out.
You beam at him as you take them in your hand. “Thank you,” you say again. He nods at you, warmth in his gaze as he watches you softly sniff the flowers. You look up when he clears his throat.
“Wanted to say I’m sorry,” he tells you, eyes flickering to and from yours. You frown a bit.
“It’s okay, Javi, I was the one acting up,” you assure him. You don’t want him to feel bad over something that wasn’t his fault. Just thinking about it puts a bad taste in your mouth. He’s much too sweet of a man to ever think that he’s done something wrong. You’re the childish one who threw a temper tantrum for no reason. It’s not fair for him to blame himself for what happened.
He nods solemnly, giving you a soft smile.
“I think we were both in the wrong there, sweetheart. I just don’t want it to happen again.”
Now it’s your turn to nod. You’re beaming inside at the fact that everything seems to be back to normal, but there’s also a sudden threat of tears pricking at your eyes and you’re not sure why. You look away, refusing to let them fall as you busy yourself putting them into a vase.
“Let me just put these in some water, and I’ll be ready,” you say as you turn on the sink.
****
You’re walking out the door minutes later, hand in hand with Javi as you try to contain the smile on your face. You’re way too excited about getting out. A part of you feels a bit guilty about getting your way after last night, but you suppose that Javi would have told you no if he thought it was really a bad idea tonight.
You stay silent and let him lead you downstairs, and you actually have to bite down on your lip to keep from full-on grinning when the evening air hits your face. It’s not too busy of a night, not many people out on the street at all. Still, Javi holds you close to his side as you make your way to the restaurant he was telling you about.
It’s not far, maybe a four or five minute walk from the complex. It’s small and cozy, exactly what you would hope for. He keeps his hand on the small of your back as you go to sit at an empty table, pulling your chair out for you and making sure you’re comfortable before sitting down in the seat across from you.
You smile at him as a waitress comes by and drops off a couple of menus. She takes your drink orders—a soda for you and a beer for Javi. You busy yourself with looking over the food options, failing to notice the way Javi’s started to stare at you.
His hand comes quickly across the table, making you flinch from surprise when he grabs your chin and tilts your head enough to see your right cheek.
“What’s this?” he demands.
You wince, really wishing you could have avoided this. You should have kept layering your makeup.
“”S from last night,” you mumble, ashamed even though you know you shouldn’t be. You just don’t want him to see what physical damage he may have done. He’ll tear himself up over it.
But he instead snaps, “And you didn’t fucking cover it?”
You’re taken aback, your head snapping away from his grasp. Shame fills you. Why can’t you just do something right for once? Tears again fill your eyes, only adding to your shame.
“I-I’m sorry, Javi,” you say quietly, staring at your hands in your lap. “I was just really excited to go out and—”
He sighs and leans back in his chair, cutting you off from your pointless excuse. “Just make sure nobody sees it,” he tells you. “Do you have any idea what that could do to me in my field of work?”
You nod, sniffing as your ears burn with embarrassment. Here he is taking you out and you ruin it by making another stupid decision. At least you’re not getting angry again. You have enough sense to keep that at bay.
You catch the waitress walking back with your drinks out of the corner of your eye and do your best to quickly collect yourself, giving her a warm, tear free smile when she sets your soda down in front of you. She smiles back and takes Javi’s order, which you order as well since you forgot to choose a dish for yourself.
You flash Javi a shy smile when she walks away, and, much to your relief, he gives you a small one in response. He’s still obviously not very thrilled with you, but at least he’s not straight mad.
“How have things been going at the house, baby?”
You know he means with renovations.
“They’re pretty good. Almost finished with all the painting and stuff. I might just need you to help me with some of the tile and cabinets.”
He nods. “Alright, I’ll see if I can get it done tomorrow.”
You nod back, trying not to be too tense. The conversation almost feels…awkward. It’s confusing. Luckily, the waitress comes quickly with your food, placing it in front of you and leaving you to it.
Conversation gets a bit better as the two of you eat. More casual and free-flowing.It’s not quite how it’s been the last few months, though. More like when the two of you had gone out together the first few times and had been a little shy. You brush it off though, sure that it won’t last too long. Even the two of you haven’t ever really been in a ‘post-fight’ situation yet, you believe that your chemistry is good enough for it to work itself out soon.
And it pretty much does by the time you’re finishing up your dinner. Javi’s smiling as you gush to him about a book you’re currently reading. It’s a very cute romance, one of the ones he’s brought you recently. He’s listening intently, happy to see your eyes light up with excitement.
The waitress comes back with the bill just as you’re telling him about the ending, and he hands his card over, along with a cash tip, as he continues to listen. It’s so nice to have someone who enjoys hearing about your interests. Before Javi, you can’t really remember having a person who would genuinely want to hear about your books.
You finish just as the waitress comes back, revealing the plot twist dramatically. His eyes widen with your reveal, both to indulge you but also probably a bit out of surprise because—in your opinion—it was a pretty insane plot twist.
But then his gaze darkens, pointed over your shoulder, and you frown.
“Javi?”
Your mouth is open to say his name, but it wasn’t you who said it. You snap your head around to see a couple walking toward you, the man smiling broadly. There’s a woman holding his hand, looking a little less enthusiastic than the man about seeing your husband.
You see Javi tense out of the corner of your eye as they reach your table. The man drops the woman's hand to round the table and clap Javi’s shoulder.
“What are you doing, you son of a bitch?” the man asks in a joking tone. “Thought you said you didn’t date.”
Javi’s jaw clenches as your brows furrow.
What?
“Uhm, yeah,” you supply, ignoring the way your stomach churns at the fact that he hadn’t mentioned you at all. “That may have something to do with the fact that he’s married.” You hold your left hand up, flashing your ring. The man’s light brows go up in surprise, a slight smirk overtaking his features. But then the smile drops and he shoots his gaze down to your husband.
“Well I’ll be damned,” he says slowly. “Didn’t think you were the type, Peña.” His tone is almost flat now. You don’t understand why it changed so quickly. Javi looks back up at him, a flicker of dark emotion that you can’t quite place showing in his eyes.
“Sweetheart,” Javi addresses you, keeping his eyes on the stranger. “This is Steve, my partner at work.”
He doesn’t talk about work much, but from what he’s told you about his partner, your understanding is that they get along pretty well. So you don’t quite understand the surge of hostility between the two of them right now.
You smile nonetheless, standing and reaching your hand out to him. You state your name. “It’s nice to meet you.”
He nods as he shakes your hand, giving you a tight smile in return. His expression is almost hard to read. He nods to the woman next to you. “That’s my wife, Connie.”
You turn to shake her hand as well, and you can tell you’ll immediately like her. She gives you a bright smile as well, telling you it’s nice to meet you. She seems very nice, but also like she wouldn’t be afraid to speak up for herself. You find yourself hoping that you’ll be able to see her again. Maybe be friends.
“We were just leaving,” Javi says from where he watches the two of you. Steve has taken a step back now, and is also watching you both with his arms crossed, though he doesn’t look mad, exactly. More like he’s contemplating something.
You frown though, having thought that you still had a little while before you had to go back.
“But—”
He flashes you a warning look, and you quiet down. Maybe you misunderstood him and he doesn’t like his partner. Either way, if he wants to go back, it’s probably for a good reason and you shouldn’t fight it. You nod at him instead, smoothing out your dress.
“Well, it was nice to meet you,” you say to Steve and Connie as Javi comes to your side and takes your arm in his.
“You, too,” Connie says, and Steve nods, another small smile offered as Javi starts to lead you out. You don’t turn to watch them as you leave, instead keeping your eyes on Javi, who has his on the exit.
“What was that about?” you ask.
He glances at you with a softer gaze than you’ve seen all night. Again, you can’t place the look.
“Don’t worry about it, sweetheart,” he assures you and kisses the side of your head. So you don’t.
When the two of you get home, Javi cracks open another beer and holds you on the couch until you both fall asleep watching TV.

Javier Peña req (and Steve as bestie). Y/n is their partner and is feeling extremely burnt out; running on empty, coffee, cigarettes and not much else. She’s barely sleeping or eating and constantly has a tight chest and racing heart. They both know something is up with her but she just shrugs it off until one day, Javi is out on a raid and she reaches her breaking point. Steve manages to get her home but can’t reach Javi until he gets back to the embassy etc. Also, please could you throw in a little Carrillo cause😍
Burned Out (Javier Peña x F!Reader)
A/N: I’ve missed Narcos and my DEA boys, so thank you for this prompt, whoever sent this in. I really appreciate it. I’ve been in a bit of a slump recently with writing for this blog, so it’s great to have something to focus on and pour myself in to - hope you enjoy it!

You knew exactly when it started. When you began to feel yourself beginning to sink downwards into the quicksand that was your life.
It was a bad day… well, a worse day, if you were being honest, given that life in general in Bogota was hard and full of bad days that left you feeling numb inside. Whereas you were normally able to banish the darkness by spending time with the friends you had collected since your arrival to the city, not even Javi’s gentle kisses or Steve’s dirty jokes or Connie’s homemade deserts could do the trick.
The day had been bad for many reasons.
One, you’d lost a contact with direct links to Escobar, that you’d spent weeks working on.
Two, you had lost them in a drive-by shooting that had killed not only them but countless civilians too.
Three, some of your asshole colleagues decided to spill coffee all over your files meaning you were forced to work late to re-type them up for a briefing the following morning. Even though you had got it done, you knew you had likely missed some details, the ink far too smudge to even begin to try and understand what had previously been written.
However, that day had only been the start of it. The start of the downwards spiral you found yourself tumbling into.
Sure, the others had noticed there was a change about you. Yet, it wasn’t as if they knew what was causing it or how to fix it.
Javi especially knew what you were like - you were like him after all. Spilling your guts wasn’t your natural reaction to handling things. You kept your emotions bottled up inside of you, cramming more and more in, forcing that lid to remain firmly screwed in place even as the pressure began to build.
And if the lid did threaten to pop off? Well then, you lost yourself in him. In the love that existed between you, and the intimate knowledge you shared of one another. After all, Javi had said it himself, “who needed therapy when you had sex and good whiskey?”
A night of passionate fucking was all it took to take the edge off… to let a little pressure escape, delaying your inevitable eruption… But that was just it; you would erupt. It was inevitable. There was no way on earth you could sustain the relentless routine of long hours spent at work, with coffee doing its best to act as a replacement for your bed.
Tumblr media
Hell, you could feel the toll it was taking on you both mentally and physically, from the way your hands shook slightly, to the way your chest felt too tight to breathe sometimes. Then there was the fact your clothes were starting to get baggy, whereas they’d once clung to your frame like they’d been tailored for you.
“Here,” Javi had smiled one afternoon. You could smell the sandwich in his hand before he even set it down on the desk in front of you, accompanied by a packet of chips and a can of your favourite soda. “Grabbed that for you on our way back. Figured you’d forget lunch - again.”
A weak smile tugged at the corner of your lips at the kind gesture. “Thanks, Javi.”
“Anytime, hermosa.” He said it so calmly and easily that you felt your heart skip a beat as you realised how lucky you were to have someone who cared about you so deeply. It was why you made sure to tear a corner off of the sandwich and pop it in your mouth.
The relieved nod Javi granted you told you it was the reaction he’d been waiting for, as he took a step back to let you finish eating and working in peace.
You knew he’d be back to check you’d finished it in a matter of minutes. So, you were quick to chuck the rest of his lunch in the waste paper bin behind you, burying it further under a pile of discarded documents you’d already finished looking through.
It was fine. You’d eat later. Maybe you’d even try and cook dinner for you and Javi… an apology for being so distant lately…
Somehow, despite lacking the gift of prophecy, you knew deep down that that was unlikely to happen. Just as you knew it was unlikely Javi would even make it home tonight. For the last week straight, both he and Steve had been called out on some last minute, late night errands by Carillo - not that you minded all that much.
Not having Javi’s arms to fall into meant you felt less guilty about working late yourself. About only making it back to your empty apartment long enough for a quick shower and a power nap each night.
It was ironic to think of Carillo, though, given that your brief conversations with the Colonel in question had been the closest you’d come to finally releasing some of the hurt and the pain inside of you.
You didn't know what it was about him, but somehow, the Colonel had an ability to draw you out. To make you open up and share things you would never otherwise dream of.
Maybe it was his candour? You’d noticed that about him since you'd started working together; he had a blunt demeanour, saying what he thought regardless of the affect it could have on another person.
Now, it wasn't done with malice, per say, but rather as the result of a man who had the weight of an entire army on his shoulders and an impossible task. He just didn't have the time to bullshit anyone - especially when you both lived in a city full of people all too willing to lie and cheat.
It also came from a weird sense of respect, of seeing people as equals, deserving of the truth just as he expected the same in return. No matter how painful it may be.
Needless to say, it was one of the reasons you'd grown to respect the man - and dare you even say, like.
Still, when he decided to loiter on the other side of your desk, late one night, you felt yourself stiffen, as if suddenly all too aware of every little gesture your body made and what it gave away.
The Colonel missed nothing.
“You look like shit.”
Wow. Don’t beat around the bush.
Tumblr media
“Jeez, your wife married a charmer, Colonel,” you scoffed, dragging on your cigarette, sparing him a fleeting glance. “Speaking of, doesn’t she want you back home? Or do you prefer my company that much that you’d rather stand at my desk at 11 o’clock at night?”
“She’s out of the city, visiting her parents,” he rebuffed, clearly not taking the bait as he dropped into the empty seat opposite. In fact, he decided to reach across and steal one of the cigarettes from the packet on your desk, lighting it for himself in a gesture that made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere for now.
“Good for her.”
“Yes, it is. I think time away from this place is good for everyone.”
You could feel the accusation lacing his words, as well as the heat from his continuous stare. “Then why didn’t you go with her? Not enough vacation days?”
He scoffed, a bitter smirk twisting his lips upwards. “You’re funny; I can see why Peña likes you so much. Like calls to like, as they say, even if you try and hide it behind that smile of yours.”
You bit back a laugh. “What can I say? I lucked out in that department and got my Mom’s smile. My sister was not so fortunate. She always had my dad’s features - meaning she looked more often than not like she was sucking on a lemon.”
“This is the sister that died from an overdose, correct?”
“Yes.”
“The anniversary is this week, is it not?”
He asked it so calmly and casually that anyone would have thought he’d asked you what the weather was like outside, or what your favourite record to listen to was.
At least his concern now made sense. It was the kind of detail he would remember, and you were honestly more surprised by the fact it had taken until now for him to bring it up.
He’d probably been itching to ask you about it all day, aware of the date even if your two partners were not. Well, they might have been, but neither had said anything which was your preference if you were being honest. Hence your rapidly cooling demeanour towards your colleague.
“I’m fine, if that’s what you're trying to fish about for, Colonel,” you sighed, staring back down at your desk again in an attempt to dismiss him. “You don't have to worry about me. I’m good. Thanks. So can I get back to work in peace? Or did you have some other question for me?”
Carillo sighed, simply choosing to smoke his cigarette, letting the tension linger along with the steadily growing haze around you both.
He didn't need to say the words aloud; his actions did all the talking for him as he reached over and helped himself to a file off of you desk.
He didn't buy this ‘calm, cool, and collected’ act you were pedalling. Not for a second - something his stare alone gave away, even if he refused to say it. Instead, he chose to read, and work, and smoke along side you so that you would not be alone.
He had his eyes on you... watching and waiting for the moment that your carefully constructed walls came crashing down... the only question was would they crush you in the process?
Tumblr media
It was about a month later that the inevitable happened; that you finally hit rock bottom.
It had just been a causal remark that did it, of all things. A casual remark that sent you tipping over the edge.
You had just returned from lunch and hadn’t even sat back down at your desk yet when you noticed that someone was missing.
“Yo, Steve?” you queried, quickly glancing up at the empty seat next to you. “Where did Javi go?”
Now, you couldn't be a hundred percent certain what Steve said next but you knew he’d said something about Carillo, a lead, and a raid ...
“What?”
“I said, Javier went with him,” Steve repeated, staring at you with growing concern. You realised he must have already repeated himself. “What? Why? What is it?”
“Javi went too? He… he’s there? On that raid?”
“Yes, y/n, that’s what I just said - hey! Where you going?”
You didn’t even realise your feet had started moving, not until you heard Steve’s confusion as he yelled after you.
But you didn't stop.
You couldn’t stop, not until you were outside - not until you were far enough from that place that you could actually stop and fucking breathe.
When did it become so hard to breathe?
When had the room become so small?
Why did your mind suddenly feel the need to go to the darkest place possible?
It was just a raid... one of hundreds Javi had gone on since arriving here in the country, just as you had also gone on your fair share. So why was your head suddenly picturing him... lying there... injured, or worse... dead.
The number of bodies you’d stared at, lying in the streets in a macabre tableau that had become all too familiar by now - all part of this fucking job. A job you signed up for, hoping to vanquish the bastards who had taken so much from you and those you loved… yet, every day, it seemed you had failed as more and more innocent people suffered… and to think, that Javi - the man you loved more than anything - who you had neglected terribly to the point you couldn't actually remember the last time you’d woken up next to each other - could be amongst them…
It brought you to your knees.
“Whoah, y/n. Easy. What’s wrong?”
Steve’s voice sounded distant, as if you have been submerged beneath water. Yet, you could tell he was beside you, dropping down onto the kerb before hauling you close. The warmth of his touch was enough to tether you to him, to reality, as everything around you seemed to spin in dizzying circles.
You could feel it as his hands rose, cupping your cheeks, turning your head and trying to get you to look at him.
When you finally did, he could see immediately that your eyes were glassy, like you weren’t really seeing or hearing him.
He knew that look.
“Y/N,” Steve murmured in a soothing voice. “Y/N, look at me. Look at me.”
He paused, waiting until your eyes trained themselves on his face, some of the cloudiness starting to dissipate.
“Good, that’s good. Now breathe. Just breathe,” he instructed, taking a few deep breaths himself to show you how.
It took you a moment or two, but you eventually became fully aware of your surroundings and what your friend was telling you to do.
Following his lead, you took a few shuddering breaths, then a few more. You kept breathing until you could feel the racing of your heart slow and the fear that had felt crippling just moments before begin to ease.
You were exhausted.
Wiping at your face, you tried to banish the tears that had left a salty trail burning down your cheek.
Steve doesn't say anything for a long minute, instead choosing to pull you into his side and light up a cigarette, which he was quick to offer you.
“T... thank you.”
You sat like that for a while... just watching people and cars passing by, smoking like two people on a perfectly ordinary break.
No one bothered to stop and ask you two questions. Hell, no one even shot a glance in your direction, everyone too busy with their own business to stop and give a shit about yours.
So you sat.
And smoked.
And said nothing... not until the cigarette was nothing more than a stub.
Tumblr media
Steve was quick to take it from you, before it could burn your fingers. Tossing it aside, it had clearly served its purpose.
He stood and offered you a hand.
His face left no room for debate as he stated calmly, “Come on, I’m taking you home. Now.”
Tumblr media
“Come on. A couple more steps, Y/N,” Steve urged, guiding you up the stairs to your apartment.
His hand was warm, firm even, as it pressed against your lower back.
He’d been like this since the moment you’d left the embassy, steering you and hovering over you like he expected you to simply topple over at the slightest breeze.
It was touching, yet irritating all at once - a sentiment you were too busy trying to put one foot in front of the other to even attempt to unpack. You were also just too goddamn tired.
“Here we are.” Steve’s words startled you. “Home sweet home.”
You didn’t remember giving him the keys, but you must have as he opened the door a second later and herded you inside.
There was emotion in your throat - threatening to spill from you. You were holding on by a thread and he knew it. Just as Carillo knew it, and possibly Connie too -
Wait, Connie?
You blinked as you realised that at some point the woman had also entered your home, most likely having been summoned by Steve on the drive home.
You wanted to feel guilty at the thought of her being dragged into your mess, but you were honestly too tired to feel anything other than grateful as she hurried over to you, offering you a cup of what you assumed was tea, as well as two pills.
To help take the edge off, she explained, urging you to take them. Doctor’s orders.
It was impossible to miss the way that they were both staring at each other - sharing anxious glances as you swallowed the tablets and dutifully sipped the tea.
They were worried about you. Hell, you were worried about you, and Javi, and Steve, and everyone else you loved and cared about - that was what had got you in this mess in the first place.
Damn it.
You heard them say as much as you marched yourself to your bedroom, claiming you were going to try and get some rest whilst you waited for news.
If they bought it, you couldn’t tell, but neither protested as you left them.
They simply let you go, allowing you the space and privacy to crawl into your bedroom, bury yourself in the unmade sheets, and lie down for a while. The medication had clearly started to work as you felt heavy... tired...
Lying there, you could hear their voices... faint murmurs drifting down the hall.
You caught only snippets as they tried and failed to keep their voices down, just as your parents had once done when you were just a kid. Still, despite their efforts, you caught enough to know that there was still no word from Javi, or about the raid he went on.
“-called Javi- no reply.”
“Carillo - try again -”
“-worried about her - stressed.”
Tumblr media
Eventually, the words began to fade away, replaced instead by your body's sudden need to sleep. It was pointless to fight the drugs now in your system, or the comfort of being wrapped in the bed sheets that still smelled of Javi... not even you were strong enough to fight it as you felt yourself drifting off into sweet oblivion.
Tumblr media
"Sweetheart?"
You must have still been dreaming - that was the thought that crossed your mind as you swore you heard Javi's voice.
"Javi?" you moaned, fighting against the grogginess that greeted you as you tried to open your eyes.
Despite the fact it was clearly now dark out, you could easily make out the face in front of you, illuminated from behind by the bedside lamp. The sight was almost angelic - as if some divine being had deigned to answer your prayers and return the love of your life back in to your arms.
“It's ok, I'm here, sweetheart,” Javi purred again, brushing your hair back behind your ear and pulling you close. “I’m right here, ok? In one piece - promise. The raid went off without a hitch. Even snagged ourselves a new asset for you to take a crack at.”
Your eyes shimmered with tears as you quickly burrowed into his chest. You didn't really hear what he was saying, too busy focusing on the fact that he was here to say it at all - here - alive - in your arms.
The reality hit you as you began to let it pour out of you: how relieved you were, how much you loved him. You also grumbled something about fucking telling you when he next decided to run off on a raid without so much as 'goodbye' - else you’d shoot him yourself.
“I’m sorry, carino. I am.”
And you believed him.
"I love you, Javi. So much."
"I love you too," he purred, "and I'm so sorry, I knew you were struggling, but when Steve told me-"
He didn't get to finish whatever the hell he'd been about to say. You didn't let him.
Instead, your lips surged hungrily towards his and as only Javi could, he kissed you back, soft and slow... as if desperate to reassure you through actions alone.
You felt him chuckle into your mouth as you grew impatient, grinding your hips against him in a silent plea for him to fill you. To join you. To bury himself, and the day you'd both had, in a moment of bliss.
It was a special kind of neediness, reserved for just him, and one that was only sated once he had fully joined with you, as one being. Safe. Whole.
Yes, in an ideal world he would have waited until after talking to you to lose himself in such a way. After all, Steve and Connie had filled him in on the troubling turn of events that his absence today had triggered - and he'd be lying if he said the idea didn't scare him shitless, that you had broken down so completely...
He could only thank God that Steve had been there for you - especially when he couldn't be himself.
But he was here now... and you had time to start trying to make sense of this mess. Together. Carillo had assured him of that, informing him in no uncertain terms that you both had the next few days off from work. He didn't want to see either one of you back in the office until you'd begun to sort through the mountain of shit you were buried under.
So, yes. If you wanted to lose yourself for tonight, to use him to forget the world outside for a perfect moment, then he was only too happy to oblige.
He’d wait until the morning to have a proper conversation.
He’d go down and whip you up some breakfast before trying to get you to open up to him about everything that had happened today… about the worries and concerns you’d been keeping locked away inside of you.
Then, after you’d fallen in to pieces in his arms, he could try and start to put you back together again. As a team.

Narcos fic: Starter Home
This is for @by-ilmater. Ash, I actually wrote this for your birthday last year but I was in the throes of writer's block at the time and felt dissatisfied with it and didn't have it in me to keep redrafting. But now I kind of feel like, it's probably still better to share an imperfect fic rather than hoard it to myself where no one else can enjoy it even a little tiny bit. So I hope this brightens your day 😘
Title: Starter Home Pairing: Steve/Connie/Javier Rating: Teen Word count: 405 Content/warnings: AU (no baby), post-series, established (poly) relationship, domesticity, intimacy. Unbetaed.
The house was cramped from the beginning. It was what they call a starter home—sold as a two-bedroom but the second room no bigger than a county jail cell—with a small kitchen and a small living room and a tiny bathroom featuring a single pedestal sink and an old, built-in tub that even Connie couldn’t sit in without tucking her knees nearly to her chest.
The bathroom was undoubtedly the worst thing about the house.
The best thing—well, that was easy. The best part came when they’d convinced Javi he belonged there with them, too. And somehow, he fit right in, brightening up the place like the brand new bulbs Steve had installed in the ancient chandelier-style light fixture in the foyer.
But she must have groused about the bath one too many times, because she found them one day sitting on the back steps, heads tipped together as they shared a cigarette and murmured back and forth over a sheet of paper marked up in pencil lead. At the sound of the screen door cracking open, they looked up at her with matching conspiratorial grins, and it didn’t take much to convince them to let her in on the plan.
The house got worse before it got better. The remodel took weeks to complete, depleting their rainy day funds, and by the halfway point they were all sick of the hammering and the limited facilities and the careful budgeting.
But finally. Finally. That back porch sketch came to life: with the bonus room’s wall knocked out and the bathroom expanded, they had the luxury of double sinks and a tub that Connie could stretch out to her tiptoes in. Pure bliss.
Some days now it still got cramped, knees all folded up again under her chin—but this time it was because Javi had fitted his way into the tub behind her, pressed warm against her back, his own knees bracketing hers. He acted like he couldn’t get enough of her, mouth trailing kisses down the back of her neck, damp with steam from the bath and hot with arousal. Steve’s bare feet dangled in the water with theirs, perched next to the tub while he drawled out loud a chapter from the book they were sharing. She had everything she wanted right there in her little home, and it felt like the perfect starting place after all.

Never Safe - One Shot
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Summary: When Connie and Steve organise a day out with you and Javier to hopefully repair the fractured relationship you two have, things don’t go as planned.
Relationship: Javier Peña x Reader, Steve Murphy x Connie Murphy
Warnings: Like AO3, I choose not to list any warnings.
Tumblr media
When Steve had suggested that you all spend your very rare day off together at Lake Guatavit, you’d initially been sceptical. Now you’d be lying if you said that you didn’t want to visit the place, you’d made a bucket list of things to do in Colombia when you’d learned you were going to be stationed there.
No the reason you’d been sceptical was because of Javier Peña.
The Bogota Batchelor.
The most desired man in the Embassy.
And you had bagged him on your second day.
You had expected him to brush you off after that. After all, it had been two people scratching an itch. At least that's what it had been for you. But then he went and developed feelings for you and any chance of a working relationship fell to pieces.
Fast forward to today, five months on and things were strained. He had resorted to the cold shoulder after your numerous rejections, his ego too bruised to be ‘just friends’ with you and you tolerated it. You were there to do a job after all. Yet you’d also be lying if you said that you didn’t have any feelings at all for the man. You just had no intention of acting on them.
The drive to Lake Guatavita was gruelling. Steve and Connie desperately trying to find anything to talk about but after the first hour, you decided sleeping was the best course of action.
Steve and Javi then started to talk quietly to each other in the front and when the subject of your relationship cropped up, you couldn’t help but listen in.
“When are you and Espina going to sort your shit out?” Steve asked and Javier sighed “I know you fucked her, is that why you two hate each other? You pump and dump her?”
“Was the other way around.” Javier confessed lowly, his head rolling to look at the passing trees through the window “She was different Steve. She got under my skin and I laid myself bare for her and she rejected me.” You winced at his statement, your guilt starting to bubble a little under the surface.
“So what?” Steve snorted “You get your feelings hurt and you decide that being pissed off all the time is the best way to handle that?”
“I don’t wanna get into this Murphy.” He sighed and Steve just waved him off, no point in pushing.
They moved on to more trivial subjects after that. Mainly about the case and you found it easy to slip off to sleep then. Before you knew it the car came to a halt and everyone started to get themselves ready for the small hike from the car park to the lake. Connie pulled the picnic she’d made from the boot of the car and you started to ask her about what she’d decided to put in there. Anything to try and distract yourself from the guilt you had brewing inside of you.
When you reached the top of the path, the view of the lake was stunning. It was like a rich jade that glittered in the bright sunshine, nestled in the middle of a lush forest. It brought a smile to your face that Javier couldn’t help but find himself mesmerized by and he allowed himself to admire you for a moment before he was trekking down the path towards the water.
You’d picked a good day to visit. The temperature was just right and there wasn’t another soul to be seen. When paying entry, the desk clerk had seemed relieved to see you all and you wondered if she’d perhaps expected a slow day. Tourism had taken a bit of a nose dive in recent years.
A few hours later you had found a nice spot to sit and enjoy the picnic that Connie had brought, the guys sipping on their slightly warm beers as you enjoyed some freshly made lemonade with her.
“So, glad we came?” Steve asked as he picked up a few more chips and threw them in his mouth.
“Definitely.” You replied almost breathlessly “I have been meaning to come and visit since we arrived but it seems that we never have time to visit anywhere,” You finished with a chuckle.
“I’d happily suggest a few other places you could visit Espina.” Javier piped up, his tone soft which made your guilt start to simmer once again “I had a chance to visit a few places when I first arrived.” He finished with a shrug, eyes then darting down to the bottle in his hands.
“I’d like that Javi.” You replied sweetly and his head shot up in surprise at your reply “Thanks.”
“No problem.” He replied, a little stunned.
There was a reason you’d been named Espina. You’d developed a reputation for having a prickly personality as Steve had worded it. Javier had continuously referred to you as the thorn in his side and after your first operation with Carillo, he’d gifted you the nickname.
And you kinda liked it.
“So I was thinking we could trek for a bit longer, walk all this food off and then we can head back?” Connie piped up, pulling all eyes to her.
“Yeah… Yeah uh… That sounds good.” You replied distractedly as you shook your head of the static that had taken up residence and started to help pack everything away again.
Once everything was packed, you started up your trek again. Javier walked ahead of Steve and you trailed behind a little with Connie, talking to her about her work at the Communa and yours at the embassy. When the terrain started to get a little difficult the four of your stopped, admiring your surroundings as you sipped at your waters.
“Probably best to start heading back now.” Suggested Steve and everyone agreed, you and Connie then took the lead as you turned around and started to trek back up the hill.
“Ahh.” Expelled Javier as he felt a nip at his ankle.
“You okay man?” Steve asked, looking over his shoulder at his partner.
“Yeah,” Javier replied, shaking his head a moment before following everyone else.
The walk then passed into a comfortable silence as everyone focused on getting back up the hill and to the car. When you reached the peak, you turned to admire the view again a moment, smiling at Steve as he passed you before your eyes drifted to Javier who was trailing quite a bit behind. He looked exhausted and you smirked at the sight as he traipsed up the last few steps.
“Think someone needs to quit smoking.” You teased once he was in earshot, grinning at him as he came to a stop just a few feet in front of you.
Your smile dropped when he did.
It seemed to happen in slow motion. One moment he was standing there, then next he was on the ground, gasping like a fish out of water. You were at his side in the blink of an eye.
“Javi?” You said panicked as you noted his skin was pale and his whole body seemed to be wracked with chills “CONNIE.” You screamed as loudly as you could “Stay awake Javi, stay with me now…. Come on.” You pleaded when his eyes started to droop and then your head shot up when you heard thumping footsteps on the earth beside you.
“What happened?” She asked as she dropped to your side and you shook your head, tears starting to form as you looked back at Pena.
“He just collapsed.” You managed to choke out and Connie nodded as she started to check Javier over.
“Javi… Javi, can you hear me?” She asked, smiling when he weakly nodded at her “Good, that's really good Javi. Now I need you to tell me what happened?” She asked, sighing when the agent didn’t answer her.
Feeling his pulse, she found it pounding rapidly beneath her fingertips. Then her brain went into medical mode.
Rapid pulse… Chills… Difficulty breathing…
Her eyes shot open as the dots started to connect.
“Check his ankles.” She ordered and you gave her a bemused look.
“What?”
“Just do it.” She said sternly and you nodded, shifting so you could take a look and lifting his pant leg, you found something “Connie…”
Her eyes shot up to what you were showing her and then to Steve who’d been standing silently, watching in shock at what was unfurling before him.
“What?” He asked, finally finding the strength to speak “What is it?”
“Snakebite.” Connie replied grimly and you sobbed “We need to get him to a hospital.”
“Don’t we need to find the snake?” You asked and Connie just shook her head “We don’t know where or when he was bitten… Snakes probably long gone.”
“When we turned back.” Steve said out of the blue, grabbing your’s and Connie’s attention.
“What was that Steve?” His wife asked.
“When we turned around to walk back. He said ow and I asked if he was okay. That must have been when it bit him.” He elaborated and you sobbed.
“That was over an hour ago.” You choked; your attention was grabbed by Javier as he started to gasp in your arms.
“There’s no time to go look. We need to get him to the car and to a hospital ASAP.” Connie ordered and Steve sprang into action, lifting his partner into his arms and practically sprinting back in the direction of the truck.
As soon as you made it back, it was a blur of Connie clambering into the back and helping Steve lay Javier down over the back seat of his truck. You then leapt into the passenger seat as Steve took up position in the drivers, the vehicle screaming to life and kicking up dust in its wake as Murphy screamed out of the park and towards the main road. You turned your head to see Connie stroking Javier’s hair affectionately as she monitored his strained breathing. If it were possible, Javi looked every worse than he had when he collapsed. His lips had started to turn blue, and his lids drooped severely.
“We’re going to get you to help Javier.” Said Connie softly as she cupped his cheek in the hope to ground him “You just need to keep breathing, okay?”
You watched him closely, noting the tiniest little nod of affirmation from the agent as he visibly leaned into Connie’s touch. You couldn’t believe this was happening. What was supposed to be a day to mend fences and spend time with the people you cared most about had turned into utter chaos.
“Javier… Javier, you need to breathe Hunny.” Said Connie, pulling you from your thoughts and your eyes snapped to the agent who was now struggling to pull in any air whatsoever.
Steve was driving like a demon, but you knew you still had a while till you reached the hospital, Javier was running out of time and quickly. Your eyes locked with his and you gave him a soft smile, praying that it would give him any sort of comfort and when he weakly held out his hand to you, you took it without question. He seemed to relax a little then, pulling in a few weak breaths and so, despite how uncomfortable the position was, if you could help Javier by holding his hand, that’s what you were going to do.
The drive seemed to stretch on forever. Your arm had come to sleep some time ago and your back was starting to ache from the twisted position you were seated in but that was nothing in comparison to the state that Javier was in.
“We’re ten minutes out.” Steve announced when the familiar streets of Bogota filled his vision and you smiled.
“Hear that Javi?” You said sweetly as you turned your head to look at him again “We’re almost there.”
The corner of his lips seemed to twitch slightly as if attempting to smile but then his eyes slipped shut and his hand left your grasp.
“Javi?” You questioned as Connie positioned her ear over his mouth “Javi?” You called again, sobbing when Connie then turned her head and started to blow rescue breaths into his mouth.
“What’s happening?” Steve questioned, noting you shaking your head and sobbing as you repeated ‘no’ over and over again like a prayer.
“He’s stopped breathing,” Connie announced as she started compressions, somehow holding firm when the car jolted as it sped up.
You watched hopelessly as Connie performed CPR on your partner, desperately trying to keep him alive those last few minutes until they arrived at the hospital. Then the car came to an abrupt stop and Steve was out, screaming for help as he rounded the car to get to his partner.
Then everything was a flurry of activity.
You followed them as they wheeled him in, Steve flashing his badge at anyone that tried to force them out.
“What happened?” Ask the doctor and you breathed a sigh of relief that he spoke English.
“He’s been bitten by a snake.” Connie answered, “We don’t know what though.” She finished and the doctor nodded.
Alarms blaring grabbed their attention and soon the three of you were being pushed to one side and they started to work. In what seemed like the drop of a pin, he was intubated, and a nurse was pumping air into his struggling lungs whilst another prepared a machine that made your stomach turn. They shocked him once, air was pumped, and the alarm continued to ring out that dreaded single tone. He was shocked a second time and still nothing.
“Javi, please.” You squeaked, holding onto Steve so tightly that you were sure you’d break his arm.
Then, he was shocked a third time and the tone changed its tune. Everyone breathed a consecutive sigh of relief before they jumped into action. He was whisked away again and this time you were able to follow.
“We need to figure out what bit him.” The doctor stated to Connie, the only one still keeping her cool “We will update you as soon as we can.” With that, he left and you were escorted to a waiting area, the three of you huddling together in preparation for the long wait you had ahead of you.
“I used him and treated him horribly.” You piped up after some time, your hands shaking as you spoke.
“What’s that sweetheart?” Connie asked as she looked up at you.
“Javi and I, we uh… Well a few days after I arrived, we hooked up.” You confessed, noting Connie’s surprised expression “He wanted more and I kept shutting him down. I guess part of me found it hard to believe that Javier Pena, the notorious lady’s man, would want to go steady with me.” You chuckled sadly as you looked down at your hands “I kept shutting him down in such awful ways, hoping he’d get put off but I just ended up hurting him… And now he could die, never knowing how I actually feel about him.” You sobbed as your guilt gripped your heart like a vice.
“And how do you actually feel about him?” Steve asked, blue eyes boring into you.
“I’m crazy about him.” You confessed “He lives rent-free inside my head. I… Well, I suppressed these feelings for so long that I guess I managed to fool myself into thinking that I could just ignore them but seeing him like that, and knowing now that I might never see him again… Well turns out I was an idiot.”
“Javi’s strong, he’s going to pull through this.” She said softly, taking your hand and giving it a squeeze.
“He’s still going to hate me at the end of it.” You sobbed, your head dropping to Connie’s shoulder.
“I don’t think he hates you.” Steve piped up, remembering the tortured expression on his friend's face when they spoke earlier “Just make sure that if he comes through this, you make sure you mend things… Life’s too short.”
It was several more hours before you received the news. You were sitting staring at a medical poster, trying your hardest to work out what it said, when the doctor appeared in front of you looking as tired as you all felt.
“How is he?” Steve asked, his voice a little shaky.
“He’s stable.” The doctor confirmed, “It was touch and go there for a moment.” He confessed “The venom hit him hard, but he is responding well to treatment. As long as there are no complications, I think he will be okay.” He finished and sobbed, letting out the breath you hadn’t realised you’d been holding.
“When can we see him?” You asked, your voice so quiet that the doctor almost missed it.
“Now is fine, I will get a nurse to show you to his room.” He finished.
“Thanks, doc.” Steve said as he shook the man's hand “For everything.”
“Just doing my job.” He replied with a shrug before giving you all a small nod and leaving the room.
Sure enough, a short while later, a nurse fetched you all and led you to a small, plainly decorated room with Javier laying in a bed centred along the far wall. He looked a lot better than he had when you’d last seen him. The colour in his skin had started to return and his eye no longer dropped the way they had before. He gave you all a weak smile as you entered, watching you closely as you perched yourself on the edge of his bed.
“How are you feeling brother?” Steve asked as he came to a stop on the other side of the bed, placing a friendly hand on Javier’s shoulder.
“Like I almost died.” The agent joked, eyes flitting to you again before returning to the Murphy’s.
“I owe you my life.” He said, his brows knitting together and his bottom lip wobbling “If you guys hadn’t-“
“Let’s not think about that now.” You interrupted, taking his hand and stroking your thumb over his knuckles “You’re okay and that’s all that matters.”
Javier nodded as his gaze locked with yours, his expression softening at the sweet smile filling your features. Connie's coughing pulled your attention away from each other and your heart raced as you both looked at her.
“We’re going to go find some coffee, you want some?”
“Please.” You replied in unison, and she smiled before motioning for her husband to follow her.
Leaving the two of you in tense silence.
It remained that way a while before you both couldn’t take it a moment longer.
“I’m sorry.” You both said in unison, then both sporting a similarly confused expression.
“Why are you sorry Javi?” You asked softly and he sighed.
“For trying to push my feelings on you then acting like a child about not getting my way.” He replied, “You don’t feel the same and I respect that.” He paused a moment as he let his head fall back onto the pillow then roll to look at you “I would like us to start over… If we can.”
“Javi I…” You trailed off a moment as you fought to find the words to express how you feel. Now was your moment and you weren’t going to waste it “I do feel the same.”
“What?” Javier whispered, his brow drawing together as he awaited your reply.
“I uh… I do feel the same way about you, Javier… I’m sorry it took you almost dying for me to admit that I can’t keep suppressing these feelings I have.” You sob “You own me Javier and I can’t get you out of my head so… I want to start over too.” You agreed, a small smile spreading across your face “How about we start with dinner?”
“Like a date?” Javier asked, his voice wobbling as tears started to pool.
“Yeah, Javier… Like a date.” You chuckled “What’ya say?”
“I say…” He trailed off a moment his expression turning stony and making your stomach twist a little “I’ll think about it.” He finished, his face splitting into a grin as he winked at you.
“Asshole.” You grumbled as you playfully punched his arm.
“Yeah but you love me.” He teased as he smiled at you sweetly.
“Yeah.” You agreed as you beamed at him “Yeah I do.”

It's Gonna Be A Scream
Tumblr media
Day 29 of Narcoctober- Create a fanwork inspired by your favorite horror movie.
Character(s): Javier Peña x Reader; Steve Murphy, Connie Murphy, Horacio Carrillo, Trujillo, Hugo Martinez
CW: violence, blood, character death (both implied and real)
WC: 689
A/N: The way this needs to be an entire fic and/or series??
Your lungs were on fire. The muggy Texas air didn’t help matters. All you felt was hot, thick cotton stuffing its way down your trachea with each breath you took. Every ounce of energy was going into getting away from certain death. You were too tantalized with fear to turn around and see if you were still being chased. Instead, you looked in front of you. Working overtime to catch up to Javi.
One of your best friends ever since you got to college kept swiping glances back at you, not sprinting too far away from you. The two of you got separated from the rest of the group somewhere in all of the frenzy and now you were both alone as you ran for your lives.
Adrenaline was a hell of a drug. No one was given much chance to come to terms with finding Hugo’s bloodied remains in a heap outside the lone Victorian-style farmhouse they had stopped at for help with their overheated travel van. Connie’s screams had permeated through the air as she realized that she had discovered the newly deceased body of their college friend and travel buddy. Steve immediately pulled her away, yelling, “Holy shit, that’s Hugo!”
Everyone’s yelps of confusion and horror gets drowned out by the sound of a chainsaw and the large man wielding it who’s charging straight at them.
Horacio and Trujillo take off towards the house while Steve is pulling Connie back towards another vehicle on the land, hoping and praying that it’ll work.
You immediately flee for the opposite direction in which the violent slaughterer is coming from. Javi falls in step with you and he points out the woodsy area that would hopefully provide shelter. It’s farther away from the roads in which you all drove in to get to the house, but you’re left with no choice.
Your feet pound into the ground, carrying you further and further away except you don’t hear the sound of the chainsaw growing less quiet with time. You know he’s following you. You can’t bear to turn around and confirm, but you know it.
Javi looks back once more now that he’s several steps in front of you, “Come on!”
You clear the tall grass of the southern fields. It’s reedy and thick for the first several feet. The sound of the deadly weapon dissipates some, like he’s stopped. You’re catching up to Javi finally, but the two of you don’t stop. The fescue grass starts getting thinner in some areas, patchier, but there’s trees up ahead and you’ve got a good chance of completely losing your friend’s murderer if you can get across where there’s possible civilization.
The sound of the chainsaw grows quieter and quieter and there comes a point when the two of you don’t hear it at all. Javi puts a finger to his mouth, willing quietness. He grabs onto your hand and pulls you both closer to the ground. The grass is getting shorter and there’s about thirty feet between it and the expansive space of trees. There’s no cover in that small feat. If the killer’s attention was no longer on them, it wouldn’t matter anyway, but it was still a risk.
You glance into each other’s eyes and realize the same thing at the same time. It’s do or die. Now or never.
The both of you stop at the border that stops at the reeds and begins the wide open field before hitting the woods. A few seconds feels like a few hours. Thousands of words are exchanged between the desperate gaze the two of you share. The confessions you want to make. The feelings that you’ve both held for years. The promises you make to yourselves and to each other of what happens when this is all over.
There’s no silent countdown. The two of you just nod and dart out into the open, making the rough, muddy terrain your track field.
Your lungs burn.
Your feet hurt.
The chainsaw drums up again. DALLAS MORNING NEWS- 7 University of Texas Students Reported Missing, Last Seen Traveling Together on Spring Break

Connie: Okay, all right, let's hear about the kiss. Was it like , was it like a soft brush against your lips? Or was it like a, you know, a "I gotta have you now" kind of thing?
Y/N: Well, at first it was really intense, you know. And then, oh, god, and then we just sort of sunk into it.
Connie: Okay, so, okay, was he holding you? Or was his hand like on your back?
Y/N: No, actually first they started on my waist. And then, they slid up, and then, they were in my hair.
Connie: Ohhhh.
[Meanwhile]
Javier: And, uh, and then I kissed her.
Steve: Tongue?
Javier: Yeah.
Steve: Cool.

Love, Javier - Chpt 2
Pairing: Javier Peña xF!Reader/OFC (no y/n, no physical description, established backstory)
Content and warnings: Alcohol consumption, Javier overhears a date, brief mention of past.

Chapter 2: The Date
Javier had found a nice restaurant close to his hotel that didn’t serve an absolute dogshit excuse for a steak. It's just another two days he reminded himself as he dug into the piece of meat in front of him mercilessly. He tried to remember the last time he came to a nice restaurant and enjoyed a meal. With Lorraine? Back in Laredo at that nice Italian place. He dismissed his thoughts and actively made an effort to focus on something other than his past.
“Can I get some water for the table?” Javier’s attention migrated to the other side of the opaque screen that parted his table from another a few feet away. Dropping eaves seemed to be another thing his conscience had chosen to skim over.
“A bottle of flat water please.” A tired male voice spoke.
“Oh, uhm, just one second. I’m sorry.” A  female voice piped in. “Did you know they’ve done studies that show that tap water and bottled water are basically the same thing. They recently passed a law where restaurants have to filter their tap water.”
Javier eyebrows peaked, fork still halfway to his mouth.
“So it’s not really tap water, it's filtered water, which is the same as bottled water except that you don’t have to pay seven dollars for it.”
Javier looked over at the bottle of unopened water that stared back at him from the opposite end of the table. The more you know, huh. He thought as he finished chewing.
“I like the way it tastes better, uhm, can I get a scotch on the rocks with that too please.” The male voice again, more tired than before.
“Huh, I thought-I thought in your profile, it said you, uh, liked to drink red wine.”
“You printed out my profile?”
Javier’s eyebrows furrowed, amused but curious. He cut another piece of his steak, not as invested in the piece of meat as before.
“Actually, my friend did. She knows I don't like being unprepared-Not that I’m ever not prepared.” The female voice laughed surely.
Javier’s heart clenched, another thing to be grateful for; he wasn’t stuck opposite miss ‘bottled water’.
“Kudos, by the way, on your comprehensive car insurance plan.”
Javier slowed his chewing. What.
“That wasn’t in my profile.” The male voice didn’t sound so tired anymore.
“No, but it's in your background check.”
Jesus christ. Javier shook his head. This was serving as another subtle reminder as to why he doesn't do dates.
“So, tell me about yourself.” The female voice finally concluded.
“What’s left to talk about that you don’t already know, right?” The male voice laughed awkwardly.
“Good point.” The female voice sighed.
“Here are your drinks, and bottled water.” The waiter cut in at the right moment. “Can I take your order while you enjoy them?”
“I’ll have the steak with sauteed asparagus, uhm, and your thrice-cooked dirty fries please.”
“Just the house salad and the garlic bread basket for me. But hold on; the dressing that comes with the salad, I want it on the side, and for the bread basket, I would like the butter melted and on the side, but if the butter can’t be melted then none at all and I’ll have the regular bread basket instead.”
Of all the questionable characters Javier had come across, she was by far the most notable. After years of mastering the craft of wooing a woman, he had learned to read them. He deduced that this one was nothing but a bright red stop sign steering men away left, right and centre.
The waiter smiled as he approached him with a tiny clipboard, a bill fluttering up and down against it. Javier momentarily peeled his attention away from the individuals next door and to his wallet. As he got up to leave he caught the last  remnants of the rather sad conversation he had been eavesdropping on.
“Well, not to worry. I took the liberty of printing out some talking points, in case we ever ran into a situation like this.”
“I take it this has happened before?”
“No…no, but you have nine out ten of the necessary attributes on my checklist.”
“Oh dear god.” The male voice exhaled and Javier couldn't help but let out a long held chuckle.
he shook his head one last time before ducking out of the restaurant, back to his drab hotel room. You’re a lucky man Javier, lucky man.

Firsts | Javier Peña
Tumblr media
pairing: javier peña x f!reader
warnings: smut (f & m oral receiving, unprotected piv, fingering, slight size kink?), cursing, teasing, tension, some tooth-rotting tender fluff, no use of y/n. 18+. minors dni.
word count: 4.9k
synopsis: Agent Peña is determined to give you something you've been craving for a long time.
not revised. sorry for any mistakes :')
Tumblr media
Javier Peña never let anyone sleep in his bed.
Sure, he's had multiple women in it, but not once had any of them ever stayed longer than a little aftercare from the Agent himself. He used those women to get information; fucked them so good they just couldn't stop sputtering where they've seen this guy or how they know this other man. And, deep down, he used them to fill an empty void in his heart of loneliness—something he was no stranger to, but wanted to avoid altogether.
No woman had ever slept in his bed, until you.
See, if anyone told you months ago that you would've even spared Agent Peña a proper non-work related conversation this time around, you both would call bullshit.
It all started out in the field, a few months ago. Steve kept nagging Peña about his little crush on you, and it drove him crazy that you were the only woman in the office that wouldn't give him the time of day. Of course you talked to him about work related things, puzzling together the missing pieces to finally fucking catch Escobar.
Tensions were at an all-time high in the office, and the last thing on your mind was tossing the insatiable Agent a flirty smile. You were an intense, strong-willed go-getter who was an absolute badass in the field. Even the Colombian military and police liked to work with you, which was good, because it meant they'd cooperate more with the DEA. Flirting, especially with a coworker nonetheless, was completely off limits and your one set-in-stone rule you had for yourself.
You were no stranger to the rumors roaming about that Agent Peña was a good fuck. You were also no stranger to the giggles and nudges your female colleagues gave you when they caught him staring at you. You just chose to ignore them.
It wasn't until one late night in the office that had everyone exhausted and quite literally ready to get back to the States that you gave Peña the time of day.
Steve had told the man something rather interesting that day, which he knew you'd kill him for, but he thought it was worth Javier knowing. When you went over to Steve and Connie's place to have 'girl's night' with his wife, he overheard you say that no man has ever been able to make you orgasm.
Steve immediately thought of Javier when that information sprouted, and of course, being the wingman he was for Peña, he told him. Peña wanted nothing more than to be the man that could give that to you. Luckily for him, he was sort of an expert in that area, which is why all those women he fucked ended up talking.
You never paid any mind to how suave Peña could be, mainly because you genuinely weren’t interested. Your disinterest in the Agent bothered him at first, as you shot down all of his advances and flirting tactics. It just determined him further. It’s not like he kept harassing you or anything, but he tried his best to do little things for you here and there like get you a coffee when you needed it the most or a file that would help you in the spur of the moment.
On this particular night, it was just you and Peña left in the office. The two of you were paired up for a specific assignment because Murphy was unavailable, and the assignment needed to be done quickly.
You were efficient with your work, but having the Agent stare at you like a meal on legs wasn’t helping. You couldn’t deny that he was a good looking man. A man you swore you’d pay no mind to, and up until now, it was working.
“Can I help you Peña?” You ask without looking up from your paperwork. You were jotting something down when he cleared his throat, straightening in his seat.
“I think I should be asking you that, Agent.” He shot back incredulously, leaning back in his chair with his hands folded behind his head. He gave you a smug look, and his words halted your writing mid-sentence.
“Excuse me?” You look up at him, quirking an irritated brow. Though, you found yourself faltering to his heavy gaze; hooded puppy dog eyes making your panties dampen a bit. You squeezed your legs together, ignoring the nagging feelings of want and desire.
“Heard that no man’s ever been able to please you.” He tilts his head and eyes you, from your intense gaze down to the way the first couple of buttons of your work top were unbuttoned.
You scoff in disbelief. You know Connie would never say a word, so it had to’ve been Steve fucking Murphy.
Bastard.
“I don’t see how my dilemma in my personal life has anything to do with our work, Peña.”
“I was just simply observing.”
“Well you don’t work for the BAU. Stop trying to profile me.” You snap, rolling your eyes.
He holds his hands up in defense. “You know, cariño, I could help relieve you of your tension. Noticed you’ve been real… irritable, these days.”
You shoot him a nasty glare.
“Fuck you, Peña.”
“If that's what you'd like, baby. And I’d prefer it if you called me Javi.”
“I’m not one of your whores. We don’t need to be on a first name basis.” Your tone was cold as you looked back down to your papers, annoyed at the fact that you were getting turned on by his advances. What you really should've been doing is reporting him to Messina, but it wasn't worth all of the stupid paperwork.
You were cold toward him because you needed to distance yourself. It was your own fucking rule. No flirting with coworkers, even if they're ridiculously hot and tall and tan and broad and—
"Say all you want about not wanting me, but I saw the way your legs clenched and your breathing became more rapid. Why deny yourself a good time, hm?" He tilts his head.
This motherfucker was watching you like clockwork.
You slapped the manila folder that the file was in closed, tucking it into the top drawer of your desk before gathering your things.
"Good night, Peña." You hastily exited the building, fumbling with your car keys to unlock it before getting into your car. You let out a loud sigh, head hitting the back of the headrest as you rubbed your hands over your face in exasperation.
You put the keys in the ignition and left Peña at the office alone with a stupid smirk on his face.
And, that night, you had an even stupider wet dream about the smug-faced Agent.
-
As the week went on, the tension between you and Javier became nearly unbearable. It was stolen glances and soft touches and close proximities that had you stiffening, keeping your guard up to avoid succumbing to the ache in your core. It was the very thing that clawed at you from the inside, begging to be fulfilled.
You had no doubt Javier could be that man, but you were stubborn. You didn't want to give him that satisfaction. Not yet, at least. The insanely hot wet dream you had about him definitely didn't help your case, though. It made you want him to fuck you right there on his desk.
Luckily, you knew you had self control. What you didn't know is that Javier could feel you literally buzzing with anticipation, likely waiting for him to make the first move because you were too proud to do so.
You were in the kitchenette, pouring yourself a fresh cup of coffee when Javier walked in behind you. You didn’t really pay any mind until you felt the heat of his body behind you, and you turned around. Your back was pressed up against the counter as he towered over you, his dark brown gaze ever so enticing.
He reached up into the cabinet behind your head to retrieve a coffee mug himself, never breaking eye contact with you. Your eyes flickered to his lips for a brief second. To anyone else, it would’ve been the world’s most subtle glance. But to Javier, he took it as a message.
Game on.
He lightly brushed his hand against your waist to scoot past you, pouring the remainder of the fresh coffee into the mug he was holding. His touch sent a jolt of tingles down your spine, and you swallowed harshly as you tried to remember how to walk again to get away from him.
“You look beautiful today, cariño.” He simply said, halting you in your tracks. You slowly turn to him, wide-eyed and stunned. Your throat went dry as your lips formed into a tight smile.
“Thank you.” You meekly said before heading back to your desk. In this moment, you wish a black hole could form underneath the ground you walked on and swallow you whole. The affect that Javier had on you was embarrassing, especially because you were very anti-Javier Peña, aka Mr. Sex-On-Legs.
You thinking about him like this, and the undeniable tension between you both was everything you were against. Flirting with coworkers was dangerous and having sexual relations with them was lethal, especially Agents of yours and Javier’s rank. It could easily affect your work environment and being a woman in the field was already hard enough. You didn’t need shit from your counterparts or higher-ups. You wanted to be taken seriously, and giving in to your desires was going to get you anything but.
On the other hand, the need to have your desires fulfilled clawed at you aimlessly. You wanted to experience an orgasm. One that would have your toes curling and eyes rolling back. A fucking earth-shattering one—one that would ruin any other man for you.
Javier would easily oblige and give that to you, but it was up to you to let him do so.
Oh, fuck rules and fuck morals and fuck workplace gossip.
You wanted, no, needed Javier to show you what it was like. So, you decided to play along. You knew you’d both be stuck in the office late again tonight, so you wanted to have a little fun with it.
The first move was rather bold, but you weren’t going to back down now. Later on in the day, you got up from your desk to hand him a file. In doing so, your nimble fingers softly wrapped around one of his thick biceps as you dropped the file down on his desk. You leaned down, your voice barely a whisper.
“Thanks, Javi.” Was all you said before uncurling your fingers from his arm, sashaying away from him. He stared at the back of your figure quite literally stunned, and you saying his name like that had his dick twitching in his pants.
What the hell had gotten into you? He didn’t know where the sudden flirtatious behavior came from, but he was definitely going to find out.
Steve was catching on to what was going on between you, and it was amusing him to no end. It was nice to have a distraction from all the bullshit the DEA has been dealing with regarding Escobar.
By the time everyone was starting to head home, tension was so thick it could’ve been cut with a knife. Steve even threw in a ‘just bone already!’ to the both of you, and Javier couldn’t even stifle the small smile that had curled onto his plush lips.
It was around nine in the evening, and as promised, it was just you and Peña left. He was sitting at his desk when your hands suddenly slid over his shoulders from behind, sliding down to his chest. You reached over him to grab a file you needed without asking him, just so you’d have an excuse to do that.
By that time, he’d had enough of the teasing. Before you could retract your hands completely, he gripped both of your wrists and stood up, spinning your bodies around so you were pushed against his desk.
"Enough of this cat and mouse game. Do you want me or not?" Javier whispered, trapping your body with his against the cold metal of his desk. It almost looked like he was pained, like this whole past week had been hell for him.
And honestly, unbeknownst to you, it had. He laid awake every single night wishing you'd just give in to him. He wanted to treat you right. Worship your body as it should've been worshipped all along. He didn't want to fuck some random woman for intel anymore if it meant he got to be with you.
You were too stunned to speak, and quite honestly, the arousal pooling in your panties was way too noticeable to ignore at this point. You nodded your head, breath ragged and cheeks flushed.
"Gracias a Dios." He murmured. He cupped your face with both hands, finally sealing the space between you both as he brought his lips to yours. As cliché as it sounded, your whole body reacted to his touch as you felt sparks when his lips moved with yours. You dropped the file in your hand onto his desk behind you before wrapping your arms around the back of his neck, pulling him in closer.
He gripped your thighs and easily hoisted you up onto his desk, moving between your legs to be as close as he possibly could. You moaned softly when your clit caught onto the seam of your jeans, and you could feel Javier's growing bulge against your jean-clad core.
If it wasn't going to be your first time with him, he would've happily taken you right here on his desk. But, he wasn't a total asshole.
"Come back to my place with me," He sighed against your lips. "I can take better care of you there."
You nodded vigorously in agreement, and you both hastily gathered your things before heading out to Javier's Jeep.
He opened the door for you and you softly thanked him, trying to catch your breath and steady your heart rate from everything that just happened. You hadn't even gotten to the best part of this all and you were already falling apart at the seams. It'd been awhile since you've had any special kind of attention like that in general, so it really wasn't helping your case.
Javier clambered into the driver's seat, starting up his car to head back to his apartment. A naughty idea crossed your mind, and you'd be completely humiliated if Javier rejected your advances.
Fuck it.
You reached your left hand over, rubbing his now completely erect cock through the fabric of his jeans. He twitched slightly, giving you a look with burning desire. His eyes snapped back to the road thinking you were going to stop there, but boy was he wrong.
You began to undo his belt as best as you could given your position, and you swiftly unbuttoned and zipped down his jeans.
"Wh-what are you doing?" His voice was hoarse, eyes going wide.
"Relieving you." Was all you said before tugging his jeans down the right amount so you could take his cock out of his boxers.
He was thick and heavy, the head already bedaubed with pre cum. Your mouth watered at the sight, seeing that he had girth and a good length.
He inhaled sharply when your thumb ran over the swollen flesh of his weeping head. You wasted no time, giving his shaft a few pumps before taking him into your mouth. He hissed in pleasure, the feeling of your mouth so wet and warm around him. The sounds you elicited while pleasuring him were nothing short of erotic, and it was driving him crazy.
"Fuuuck. Yeah, just like that baby." Javier coaxed you on, wrapping his fingers in your hair. His other hand was gripping the steering wheel so tight that his knuckles were turning a ghost-white color. You kept going, easily licking up his silky flesh before deciding to try and take him all into your mouth.
You eased down slowly until your nose was eventually met with the dark, coarse curls at the base of his cock. Javier accidentally hit a bump in the road at the same time your mouth was completely full of him, so it made you gag around his length.
He nearly came right then and there.
"Fuck, okay, okay," He panted, gently gripping your hair to bring your mouth up and off of his cock. "I don't want to cum yet."
You pouted at him, wanting to taste him as you made him cum. Another time, you suppose. You helped him get his boxers back up over his still painfully erect member, pants following suit.
It was only a couple of more minutes before Javier parked outside of his apartment building, nearly dragging you upstairs and into his place. Once the door was closed, he pushed you up against it, capturing your mouth onto his once again. He moved you away from the door and to the couch, where he sat down so you could straddle him. It was a bit hard with the tight jeans you were wearing, but not unmanageable.
His tongue slipped over yours furiously, teeth clashing together as you both simply seemed like you just couldn't get enough of one another.
His mouth moved from yours down to your neck, leaving hot, sloppy kisses in its wake. He got to one spot on your neck just below your ear that had you shuddering with pleasure, and he chuckled softly at that.
He nipped at that particular spot and licked over it, repeating the action a few times until you found yourself grinding your hips into him. The ache in your core was unbearable, and all you wanted was to just be touched.
"Javi, please." You weren't above begging at this point, because fuck did you want his fingers in you and his tongue on you.
"Please what, princesa?" He rasped, grabbing your ass harshly as he purposefully rutted your hips against his.
"I- fuck- need you to touch me. Please." You whine, biting your lip as you look down at him with a pout. He groaned quietly when you gave him that look of feening innocence.
His lips attached themselves to yours again before he grabbed the back of your thighs, parting from your lips to take you to his bedroom. You kissed his neck while he was walking, giving it one long lick up to his ear before he placed you down on his bed.
He hovered over you, placing one knee in between your legs. He grabbed the hem of your shirt before slowly lifting it up and over your head, eyeing the soft flesh of your breasts that spilled out of your bra from this position. His mouth found itself on aforementioned flesh, lightly nipping and sucking down the valley before moving down to your torso. He eventually got to the hem of your jeans, to which he took his time in taking off.
He carefully undid your belt, then the button and zipper. He shimmied the material off of your legs, staring at your nearly naked body in pure hunger and want. He noticed the dark patch of wetness on your panties, and he teasingly chuckled.
"All this for me, baby? Haven't even touched you yet." He cooed, moving between your thighs. He gave your sopping clothed core a kiss, then proceeded to lick over the wet fabric. You moaned, gripping onto his shoulders.
"Need you, Javi." Your words were nearly incoherent as they squeezed out of your throat. You didn't know how else to make the man just devour you already.
"I know, baby. Need you too." Was all he said before gripping your panties and sliding them down your legs. His gaze met your glistening core, and he hummed at the sight.
He got on his knees at the edge of the bed before wrapping his arms around your thighs, tugging you down so your legs dangled off the edge. He moved both of your legs so your calves rested on his shoulders which flexed underneath the leather jacket he was wearing.
He dragged his lips slowly up the inside of your thighs, kissing your core once, before dragging his lips back down. He repeated that twice before he finally decided to stop being a tease and devour you shamelessly. He lapped up your existing arousal before softly sucking on your clit, moving his tongue down your folds and into you a few times before just focusing on your clit. He took his middle and ring finger and slipped them both into you, the thick stretch of his fingers nearly sending you over the edge.
You couldn't fucking believe it. All these years, no man has ever been remotely close to even making you cum, and then Javier Peña comes along. He nearly had you unraveling with just his tongue and fingers with such ease that it honest to god seemed way too fucking good to be true.
"Baby you taste so goddamn good. Fuck." Javier mewled, pulling his fingers out of you. He reattached his lips to your clit as he gripped your thighs tighter. You were rolling your hips into his face at this point, but he was making movement nearly impossible with the weight of his arms.
He then solely focused on your entrance, swirling his tongue teasingly around you before slipping his tongue inside of you over and over again. You choked on a gasp at the sensation, feeling a nearly foreign tightening sensation in the pit of your core.
"Javi." You whined, the sensation getting stronger and stronger until your body trembled, a lick of flames coursing through you as you cried out. You convulsed around Javier's tongue as you came, tears pricking the corner of your eyes at the heavenly sensation. He lapped up your sweet arousal, moaning against you before pulling away.
Your chest was heaving up and down uncontrollably ears ringing and mind hazy.
Javier looked down at your disheveled state, truly quite honored to be the first man to ever make you orgasm. He leaned down and pressed a wet kiss to your lips, tasting your own arousal as his tongue slipped into your mouth. You gripped both sides of his face as your lungs began to burn, desperate for some air. You separated from him reluctantly, looking up into his eyes.
The sight before him was truly pornographic. Your hair was disheveled, eyes glossed over and parted, swollen lips glazed with your own cum as you breathed rapidly. As his eyes traveled south, one of your bra straps hung off of your shoulders and your manicured hand rested on your abdomen. Your legs were spread just for him, and he wished he could take a photo of you like this. Not to be a creep, but because you belonged in a museum.
Part of him was secretly happily selfish that he was the only one who could see you like this in this moment, though. To look so fucked out and needy because of him. The thought alone nearly made him cum in his pants.
"How do you feel, corazón?" He asked, standing up to finally take the constraints off of his erection. He groaned softly at the release as his cock hit his stomach, still red and weeping and glistening with pre cum.
"Amazing." Was all you could muster up before hooking your legs around him, causing him to topple over you. He laughed at your sudden movements, both hands resting on either side of your head. Your hands found purchase on either side of his face, thumbs softly caressing his cheeks.
No one had ever been so affectionate with him. A warm feeling invaded his stomach, eyes feverishly scanning yours.
"You have a beautiful smile and laugh, Javi. Why don't you do it more?" You ask, brushing a curl off of his forehead. He leaned down and nudged his nose with yours, softly kissing your lips.
"I'll do it more for you, corazón." He whispers, and you pull him down for another kiss. This one was soft and slow, a much different pace than the previous ones. This one was full of tenderness and care, something you both desperately wanted but never seemed to get.
In the midst of the slow kiss, Javier moved one hand down to grab his cock so he could slide it between your folds. You gasped against his lips and he peered down at you with a gentle gaze, searching your eyes for permission. You grabbed the sides of his legs gently, silently letting him know it was okay.
He pushed into you slowly, and you closed your eyes at the sensation. He stretched you in a way that was so heady, having you feel so full when he got to the hilt. You closed your eyes in pure bliss, and Javier leaned down once more to kiss your forehead softly. Your eyes fluttered open again and met his soft gaze.
"Keep your eyes open and on me, cariño. Wanna see you." He says as he juts his hips forward, causing you to suck in a breath through your teeth.
He started to pump in and out of you languidly at first, but then it became rapid hip snaps against yours. The sound of pounding flesh and ragged breathing was all that was heard in the room. Javier made sure to kiss you everywhere he could possibly reach in this position, even moving down to softly suckle on your erect nipples after tossing your bra somewhere in the room amidst all of this.
Pleasure washed over your body and you felt that familiar heat licking your core once again. He paused for a second to bring your calves back up to his shoulders, this new angle hitting even deeper inside of you. It was hitting a spot you didn't even know was possible. You cried out his name as you tried to keep your eyes open, but it was nearly impossible with the way he was thrusting so deliciously into you.
"Javi, fuck, I'm gonna cum again." You cry, clawing at the bedsheets.
"Yeah? Go ahead, princesa, I'm right here. I've got you." He says, keeping his pace steady. He felt his own orgasm slowly building, and he knew it was a matter of time before he found his own release. Before your hazy mind could even process it, your body was shuttering again as you clamped tightly around his cock. Your orgasm washed over you once more, a little stronger than the last time.
You were so spent and fucked out, but Javier kept going. He was so close to his release, and he wanted to make you cum for him one more time.
"One more time, baby. C'mon, I know you got it in you." His teeth are gritted, jaw clenched and face so determined.
"Fuck, Javi, I-I can't." You cry, your breathlessness catching up to you. Your lungs were constricting and it was hard to breathe, but it burned so fucking good.
"Yes you can baby. I know it." He says, snapping his hips against yours at a relentless pace as he moved a hand down to rub swiftly over your already abused and overstimulated clit.
"Fuck!" You cried, clamping down on him once more but this time, a gush came out of you. That was enough to send Javier over the edge.
"Where do you want me?" His voice was so severely strangled that you barely understood him, and understood the fact that you only had a couple of seconds to answer him.
"Inside, please. Need you." You clawed at his back now, feeling his warmth spill into you at your words. His hips stuttered as they slowed to a halt, and both of you spent several minutes trying to catch your breaths.
He pulled out of you slowly, both of you groaning at the loss of contact. He plopped down beside you, sweat adorning both of your bodies as your chests heaved up and down.
"Fuck, Javi. That was..." You started once you controlled the raggedness of your breath.
"I'm glad." He chuckled, leaning down to kiss your cheek. You both sat in silence as you propped yourself up on your elbow, tracing mindless patterns on his bare chest with your fingertips.
"I should probably head out soon." Your voice is meek once again.
"Actually, I was hoping you'd want to stay." Javier says, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
You hesitated for a moment, before nodding slightly. "Yeah, I'd like that."
And so you and the Agent you swore you despised just days prior to this cuddled up in his bed, not worried about the repercussions that would follow in the morning.
Not the fact that your car was still there at the office and Javier's wasn't, not the fact that you'd be wearing a button-down shirt of his that was way too big on you to work the next day, and definitely not the fact that you two were much friendlier and touchier now more than ever.
It most definitely didn't have anything to do with the fact that you both provided something to each other you haven't had in a long time—
firsts.

Separation
Series Masterlist
Fandom: Narcos
Pairing: Javier Peña x Reader
Rating: 18+ (*slaps the roof of this fic* This bad boy can fit so much smut, angst and fluff in it)
Word count: 8.4k words wtf
Summary: The last time Javier Peña saw his wife was almost three weeks ago in Steve Murphy’s apartment. He’d finally done it. He’d fucked up the only good thing in his life, driven her away with his neglect.
A/N: Why is it that whenever I write Javi, there’s angst? What is it about this beautiful pathetic man with big brown eyes (and big strong arms) that makes me want to hurt and comfort him? Also, if any of you want to be tagged the next time I post Javi (or just husband Javi) lmk and I’ll make a tag list.
Tumblr media
The last time Javier Peña saw his wife was in Steve Murphy’s apartment, holding a sleeping baby Olivia Murphy on her lap as she consoled an anxious Connie Murphy. That night, he’d finally brought his partner home to his wife and child. Relieved, he went home only to find a note from his wife by his bedside informing him that she would be staying with a friend for a while. No explanations, no phone calls. Just a note.
That was almost three weeks ago.
Her side of the bed stayed untouched. Her bedside table was unusually empty without her novel of the week on it. When he reached out for her in his sleep, his heart craving the familiar comfort of her touch, he found it cold and empty. He’d wake up with a start, unaccustomed to an empty bed even though he’d spent all his bachelor life before her sleeping by himself. It was as though married life had been a cruel fantasy he was awoken from to be forced back into the reality of his lonely existence.
No matter how many times he longed to call her friend’s landline, he couldn’t bring himself to dial the number. She’d been by his side ever since he asked her to move in with him. Undying loyalty, a shoulder to lean on, a body to hold when he awoke from nightmares. She deserved a break from him.
The refrigerator sometimes had boxes of meals for him, his whiskey glass was chilled, her laundry done and dried for him to fold up. Dishes left in the sink for him to wash. He had a wife and she did come by the apartment but never when he was there too. She’d been like a ghost, slipping in and out and probably through walls without his notice.
Their anniversary came and went. Still no sign of her.
It wasn’t their wedding anniversary. It was the anniversary of their first date. That was not something they celebrated like they did their wedding anniversary but her absence made him remember and it fucking stung.
He’d finally done it. He’d fucked up the only good thing in his life, driven her away with his neglect. She gave him everything and asked for nothing. Not even the bare minimum. Her parents had begged her for a proper wedding and he couldn’t even give her that. She married him at the embassy and went home alone in the short white dress she bought herself from a regular store as he went off on some fucking raid that ended up failing anyway. She watched as her friends had weddings and baby showers and children while he kept her stuck in the same place in life.
And she was finally gone. After putting up with everything, she’d slowly disappeared from his life without him even noticing it.
Javi found himself outside her classroom. He’d walked into the English Literature department, opened her drawer and checked her schedule, ignoring the questioning staff with the same practiced authority he had as DEA agent.
For the first time, he took in the force that was Professor Peña in action. He knew she was a fucking genius. But to see her command the classroom’s attention was something else.
On one of their first nights together, he’d put his head on her lap and closed his eyes as she played with her hair and asked her unashamedly to read her book out loud to him. He had a reputation of being an asshole, of sleeping around a lot. There was an image of him being a callus man who hopped from one bed to the next. It couldn’t be further from the truth. He gave bits and pieces of his heart to every woman he slept with, he asked personal questions, kissed foreheads and comforted them over their troubles. He lied on the lap of the woman he would one day marry and asked her to read him a bedtime story of how Anna Karenina fell out of love with Alexei and in love with Vronsky. Javier may have been an asshole in others’ eyes, but on her lap, he was the man who kept his parents’ easy intimacy in the back of his head as he looked up at her and wondered if he could have something like that with her.
As she engaged the classroom in a discussion about Frankenstein’s creation, he witnessed everyone around him fall for her just as he did. He watched as she pulled them into discussions and got them involved in passionate debates amongst themselves about the nature of the creature. She was the perfect leader, knowing just how to steer the large group, get the stubborn young people to question their world views and lead them to answers to questions they didn’t even know they had.
She was a wonder.
If this was all he could have of her, he would take it. If she wouldn’t come home to him anymore, he would show up to her classes and sit in the back seat just to hear her voice and see her eyes twinkle with passion.
She didn’t notice him, her attention reserved for the students who asked questions and argued their points passionately. He had to wait until they’d all submitted their papers to her and had a little conversation to continue their discussions. He’d never seen students so reluctant to leave a classroom. He couldn’t blame them; he didn’t want to leave either. Only when most of her class had shuffled out did he have the courage to approach her desk.
He stood there, making no sounds, just fidgeting with his right hand as he tried to find the courage in him to speak to the professor who was counting the number of essays that had been submitted to her.
“Sorry, I have to get home now. Office hours are before class on Monday,” she said, not even looking up at him.
“Sure, if that’s the only way I’ll get to see you.”
She stilled mid-count, letting go of the papers as she looked up at him. She opened and closed her mouth, as though swallowing everything she thought to say.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, finally.
He shrugged and managed a half-smile. “Had to catch you somehow.”
When she said nothing, he continued, “Where do you go when you tell your students you’re going home? Because you don’t come to ours.”
He carried her papers, her handbag and her lunch bag to the jeep. As though he had to confiscate all her belongings to make sure she’d actually come home with him. As though he was afraid she’d slip through his fingers like the sicarios he chased.
Her hand didn’t cross the physical space between them. Her head rested against the glass of the window and her eyes were closed. She didn’t reach over to switch the radio on, didn’t ask him about his day, didn’t reach over to pinch his cheek or steal his aviators.
“Talk to me,” he said, his voice shaking as he realized he didn’t want to hear whatever it was she had to say. He wasn’t prepared for the harsh truths. All he wanted was to take her to bed and kiss her all over and hold her tight so that she would never leave. He wanted to cry like a little boy begging his dad to not leave for work because he would miss him too much during the day. He wanted to overwhelm her with his love, manipulate her mind into taking him back though he couldn’t admit to himself that at some point she apparently stopped wanting to keep him.
His hand was on her knee as he sat at her feet and looked up at her face expectantly for her to speak. It wouldn’t have taken him more than a second to get on his knees. He was no religious man. That stopped the day he buried his Ma. But he would get on his knees again and pray to her to stay, to be his benevolent goddess and forgive his sins for the nth time.
“I don’t know what I did, I really don’t,” his voice cracked as he confessed. “But it must’ve been something terrible for you to stop coming home.” It shamed him to discover that he had become the man he promised himself he would never be. One of those inattentive men who’d grown so comfortable in the kindnesses of their wife that they’re shocked when she decides she has had enough. Neglect killed love. And he had been neglecting her, leaving her alone most days and most nights as he traveled back and forth between Bogotá and Medellin.
She stared at him, her expressions indiscernible. She accepted his hands when he placed them on hers, the small action giving him hopes. “Whatever it is, I’ll fix it,” he begged, holding on tight. He needed her to believe him.
She shook her head and looked down at her lap. “It’s not— you didn’t do anything wrong.”
After relief came surprise. He hadn’t done something wrong this time? The relief was quickly replaced by worry. If he was the cause of her running away from him, he could handle that. He could change himself, fix whatever within was wrong to make her come home again. But it was something else, someone else…
“What is it, then?” He asked, cupping her cheek and gently directing her to look at him instead of her lap or the walls. “Is it work? Are your parents doing well back home?”
“Nothing, it’s nothing.”
He inhaled and rubbed his eyes. “It can’t be nothing. You left me. You packed up your bags and left. I think I deserve an explanation.”
She let out a sigh. “I’ll come back then.”
His hand curled into a fist and his jaw clenched. So that was it? All he had to do was ask? Her easy compliance made him want to throw something at the wall.
He got off the ground where he was knelt at her feet and began pacing across the room.
He expected some resistance when he barged into her workplace uninvited and demanded that she come with him. He expected— no, hoped for a fight for it would give him answers for her sudden disappearance. But she just walked with him to the parking lot, no questions asked. And now she just agreed to move back in. All because he demanded answers.
“Fucking tell me!” He yelled, his hand fidgeting at his side.
“I don’t want to fight,” she said, her voice too calm for the gravity of the situation. Like this didn’t fucking matter.
Oh, you don’t wanna fight? You don’t wanna fucking fight? You fucking ran off and you don’t want to—
“I don’t either, but you’re making it very hard to not do that.”
He heard her take in a deep breath before he heard the unmistakable whispers of sniffling. Great. Fucking amazing. Now, he’d gone and made her cry.
Her sounds of despair were enough for his rage to evaporate off him. He rushed back to her side and pulled her to his chest, forcing comfort upon her in the hope that it would serve as a salve to whatever wounds he’d ripped open. To his relief, she didn’t push him away. But she didn’t pull him close like she always did when he embraced her. Things had changed and he hadn’t even noticed it happening. All he could do now was hope that whatever this rift was between them, he could patch it back together.
—————————
Even in the blistering heat of Bogotá, Javier chose to keep his wife pressed to his chest when he slept. She was disgusted by their sweat combining and their clothes sticking to their bodies, but she indulged his need for closeness. She knew he loved with his body and she accepted his love, in all its sweaty sticky mess.
So he had no choice but to interpret the chasm between them on their marital bed as her rejection of his love.
As soon as he brought her back home, he had to leave for Medellin. Any hopes for setting things right had been crushed when he had to leave from work straight to the other city. He’d called home before he left, informing he would be gone for a long time once again. She didn’t say much, just hemmed and hawed before asking him to be safe out there. No exaggerated smooching sounds to make him laugh, no promises of what would be awaiting him when he came back home to her, no I love you before she said goodbye.
Over ten days after the call, he was back but without any of the feelings of satisfaction he usually had when coming home to her. Instead, there was just dread. She met him at the door as usual and wrapped her arms around him, but she separated without a kiss. The cracks in the foundations of their marriage ran deeper than he’d feared.
“Hey,” he whispered awkwardly when she finally opened her eyes. She stilled, her head jerking up as though surprised he was there.
“Hey,” she replied, her voice groggy from sleep as she shuffled under her blanket.
“I missed you so much, mi amor…” he said carefully, afraid that anything he might say would snap the last thread that held them together. His hand slowly crept into the space between them, an offering to share the littlest bit of marital comforts.
“Missed you too, Javi,” she conceded, not taking his hand but settling for playing with his fingers. He allowed her to lead, giving what little contact she took from him and taking back only as much, afraid to cross any lines.
Her nails were uncharacteristically unkempt. The woman he knew did not tolerate chipped nail polish, wiping all her nails with acetone when the paint began chipping off. Almost all her nails except her pinky had chipped paint now. Her thumbnail was bare.
“May I paint your nails?” He asked, hopeful. She nodded and he left their bed in search of the box in which she kept all her manicure tools and paints.
When they sat together on bed as he took the pink off her nails, they were closer. He handled her hands with care, refusing to scrub too harshly even when the pieces of glitter clung to her as stubbornly as he did. Manicures were something she got done from salons, but she painted her own nails just as often. She said it calmed her.
He then brought the glass file to her nails, reducing them to a shorter oval shape the way she liked them. Any longer and she found it hard to use her typewriter. He made sure to file the edges in the same direction, recalling that she’d told him filing in opposite directions was not good for nail health. He repositioned her hand in his, turning it left and right as he evaluated his work. Satisfied with the shape, he brought his lips to the finger, his eyes remaining on hers the entire time to check for any signs of rejection. He pressed little kisses from her fingertip to her wrist, relishing in the shy smiles she rewarded him with.
He repeated his work with the other nails and then used the little wooden stick she had to push her cuticles back in preparation for the paint. The shower would wash it off soon, but he still slathered some moisturizer on her hands, using it as an excuse to massage her hands. He pushed the excess cream beyond her wrists and up her arms.
He kissed the back of her hand and looked up at her, her eyes clouded with sleep and something else, her plush lips parting as his own traveled up her arm. “You feel so good, baby, so soft,” he praised, making her shudder. When he reached the sleeve of his t-shirt that she liked wearing to bed, he pulled it down, exposing her shoulder. As he neared her neck, she cradled his head in her hand, guiding him by his hair to place kisses where she wanted them. His lips went willingly, loving her up in every spot she took him to. She was all sweat, citrus shampoo and the jasmine of the lotion he’d rubbed on her. He breathed her in, her scent being his choice of drug.
She pulled him back from her neck, gazing at his lips before closing her eyes and leaning forward. He brushed the tip of his nose against hers, making her giggle. He smiled before leaning in again but kissing her chin.
“Javi,” she whined as he kissed along her jaw and the corners of her lips and even her nose, refusing to press his lips to hers.
“Yeah, baby?” He asked, feigning innocence. But she knew him too well to believe the act.
“Jodón.”
“Tell me what you want.” He demanded, craving the feeling of being wanted. He needed to know that she needed him just like he needed her, that she wasn’t just capitulating to his desires, that she desired him.
“Kiss me.”
He found himself grinning as he took her face in his hands and tilted his head, unhurried in how he grazed her lips with his. She took initiative, pressing her lips to his. She consumed him, not like a starving woman but like one ready to savor each second of her meal. He let one hand wander down her back, caressing her through the thin fabric but not daring to slip it under her t-shirt. He needed her to take this at her pace, unaffected by his greed and desperation to have all of her. It was fantastic how just a kiss from her could make him feel his heart beating for her.
He’d kissed other women before her and he enjoyed all those times. But with her, it was different. It wasn’t the first step in fucking, wasn’t a means to an end. When he kissed her, he wasn’t a lonely man trying to imitate a deeper intimacy he’d never had merely to quell his yearning for connection. In her lips, he found not just the thrill of desire, but the safety of home.
The first time he kissed her, every other kiss ceased to exist and she’d become the only one. Everyone he kissed after that first kiss left him unsatisfied. None of them tasted like her, didn’t send jolts of electricity through him, didn’t make his heart leap out of his chest.
She mewled into the kiss as his tongue danced with hers, giving in to her exploration of his mouth as she pulled him closer to herself. Taking her sounds as encouragement, he tangled his hands into her hair. He poured a month’s worth of longing into the kiss, asking with each sigh and moan ‘Can you feel how I yearn for you? Can you not feel how you broke me when you left and put me back together with just this kiss?’
She pulled back first and he found himself panting, taking in the air he didn’t know he was depriving himself of. He pounced back, needing her more than he needed oxygen. He took her lips between his, pushing her head into the headboard as he pulled her into a heated kiss. One hand roamed his shoulder and then his arms, up and down and driving him mad as the other rested over his heart. He brought a hand to hers, trapping hers over his heart. He felt lightheaded as she staved him of air, but he happily drowned in her. He needed her to feel him, feel how his heart beat to her tune, how it missed having her head rest on it as they slept in each other’s arms.
“Please, Javi. Need you…” she broke off to whisper. He placed one last kiss to her lips before he slid down the bed, pulling her to the edge before pulling her shorts off her. He dove in and licked her through her panties, savoring the taste of her wetness on the cotton. Her hand found his hair and tugged gently.
“You have no fucking idea how much I’ve missed having you, querida…” he said, placing a kiss between her legs.
“I miss you so much, Javi…”
“No, you don’t know,” he insisted, angered that she would claim to have missed him after she left him. If you missed me so much, why didn’t you come back? He pressed his thumb on her clit, pressed a bit harder than she liked and she whined.
“I’m sorry!”
“You left. You walked out on me, didn’t tell me shit and I was fucking miserable,” he confessed, passing on the hurt right back to her. She mumbled a few more apologies, but nothing would be enough until he got to take her again.
“Gonna let me show you how much I missed you, baby?” He asked, placing kisses on her belly. “Gonna let me make love to you?”
“Yes, yes, please. Need youuu—” she cried as he pushed the cotton of her panty aside to lick her.
“You need me?” He asked, licking her again. God, how he missed his favorite taste. “Did you miss my cock like I missed this pussy, baby?”
She nodded, but that wasn’t enough for him. He needed to know from her lips, needed her to scream for the entire city to know how she missed his touch. He pushed her legs back together and pulled her panties off before setting it aside. He wrapped his lips around her and sucked on her clit, exacting the sweetest little sounds from her.
“I need to hear you.”
“Missed you, Javi. Missed your cock,” she confessed, tightening around his finger as she did. He wished he had his cock inside her as he made her tell him how much she missed it. He would pull more confessions out of her with a promise of an orgasm and he knew she would say anything he wanted.
“You have ruined me, mi amor. Can’t make myself cum just as good anymore without this pussy. Hate my own fucking hand.” He praised before he lapped and laved at her core, licking her up as he made her wetter and wetter for him.
“I sneaked your panties out of the laundry hamper, took it with me to Medellin like a fucking creep,” he confessed, unsure if her cry of his name was the work of his fingers or the confession of his depravity. “The pink one with the stripes, covered in you from when you touched yourself, when you kept this cunt to yourself and kept me away. I needed to smell it when I wrapped my fist around my cock and imagined I was fucking you.”
She clenched around his finger and that sent a rush through him. “That make you feel good, Cariño? Knowing you’ve turned me into a fucking pervert?”
“Javi, baby please…” she cried as he busied his lips once again with her cunt. He would’ve left her pussy lips for the lips that cried his name so prettily but she kept him down with her hand on his hair. She fucked herself on his fingers, gasping when he added a third one to stretch her out further.
His idle hand traveled up her body, its every nerve ending enjoying having her tremble beneath him once again. He took his time, roaming everywhere, feeling every inch of skin that he would soon trap under him as he fucked her for the first in a long time. This was the longest they’d gone without each other ever since they decided to pursue what they had for real. Even with his job being the way it was, he managed to come to Bogota every now and then to have her.
She wrapped her legs around him, trapping his head with her thighs as she dug the heel of her foot into his back. He growled into her cunt as she thrust up into him, fucking his mouth and his fingers at the same time. She still wanted him in between her legs if nowhere else and if he had to, he would fuck her into staying with him forever.
A few more minutes of licking and sucking and she was pulsating around his fingers, her thighs setting enough pressure on him to make him fear that she might crush him. With a cry of his name, she came for him, coating him in her juices. He drank up all of her, not showing any restraint.
She pulled him up by his hair and he obeyed, kissing her lips to bless her with her deliciousness. He dipped his tongue into her mouth, meeting her tongue as she moaned with her own taste. He placed his hand over her collarbones, smearing her all over the place before he crept up and held her neck as he relished in the vibrations of her moans.
He gasped into the kiss as she wrapped her hand around him through his boxers. He grabbed her wrist and held her in place, keeping her from stroking his cock. It’d been too long since he had her and he wasn’t going to waste this morning by coming in his fucking underwear.
“Let me have you, baby,” he begged, dipping down to her neck to lick up her cum that he had smeared over her. He wasn’t going to let any of her go to waste.
“Yes, fuck!” She reached into his boxers and took him out, painfully hard and already leaking precum. He licked and sucked the skin until it was marred from his attention.
“Wanna be on top, please,” she begged and he rolled them around, acquiescing to her. She sat up on him, her knees planted on either side of him before taking her t-shirt off to reveal her pretty tits. Before he could reach up for her himself, she took command in taking his hand and placing it on her breast.
“Missed this so much, Javi,” she said as she stroked his cock. He kneaded her breast in his hand, enjoying having the ample flesh in his hands.
“Need to be inside you, please,” he breathed, trying as much as he could to clear his thoughts for if he focused on her hand around his cock and how gorgeous she looked on him, he would burst in an instant.
She obliged, adjusting herself over him before living him up with herself. She let him inside her wet heat, just the tip, before pulling back up. He groaned at the loss of contact, biting down on his lip as she repeated the motion, giving him just a bit of her pussy before pulling away once again.
He grabbed her hand and squeezed. “Don’t fucking tease. I haven’t had you in the longest time, darling. I need—ssss” he hissed as she took him in once more.
“I’m not teasing,” she gasped silently as she allowed a little more of him inside her. “So big, Javi. Haven’t stretched me out like this in s-so long,” she praised as she swallowed him bit by bit. “So fucking thick, gonna ruin me.”
“That’s right, baby… You love this cock, don’t you? Can’t go for anyone else ever again. I’ve made you mine,” he said, moving his other hand to her clit, moaning when she rewarded his touch by gripping him tighter.
“Mmmm love your cock,” she moaned as she struggled to take more of him even though he’d gotten her nice and wet with his fingers and mouth. Poor thing needed time to get used to his girth again after having gone such a long time without him.
“You are so beautiful like this… Look so fucking sinful trying so hard to take all of me, sitting on top of me like that and letting me touch your tits,” he praised as he played with her nipples, pinching and tugging and rolling between his fingers to make her tighten around him. She might have been on top, taking the reins, but he still had control. He knew her body like he knew the communas where he chased men, knew every shortcut, memorized every path, knew where to go to corner and capture them. He could elicit every desired response from her by touching her in the right places and saying the right words. She belonged to him, body and soul, and he enjoyed using every inch of her body to remind her to whom she belonged.
He let her set a slow torturous pace as she adjusted to him, groaning as she finally swallowed him to the hilt. It was pure bliss to be surrounded whole by her, to feel all of her wet, velvety heat. He felt her all over, from the tips of his toes to the top of his head and it was everything. She was everything.
It was sweet torment to be exposed to the cold air of the fan only to be swallowed back up by her hot cunt. He needed her so fucking bad, needed her not just for the carnal pleasures that sex brought but the feeling of home when he found himself buried in her— he needed her to devour him whole and keep him right there, inside her, all hers and nothing else. Only the Javier that belonged to her was worth existing. Everything else he’d become in over three decades of life was insignificant.
Inside the walls of their home, on their marital bed, there was no world outside. She brought him the delusions of safety and he luxuriated in it, allowing himself to forget everything that wasn’t her. The world was just her tight cunt, her tits under his hands and the filthy sounds from her lips as she slowly went from a woman in control to a writhing, moaning mess. He met her halfway with his thrusts when she struggled to keep up on top of him. He sat himself up and pulled her to his chest, giving in as she stole his lips. It was hurried and sloppy as they explored familiar territory, still as excited as the first time they kissed each other. Practiced lovers, savoring the familiar comfort of each other’s lips yet excited to find something new each time.
“Don’t ever leave me,” he begged, holding her face in his hand and making her look at him in the hopes that she would see just how much he meant it. “I can’t, without you… I— I c-can’t, mi amor— Please…”
“I w-won’t,” she managed to stutter out as she grew breathless.
“Promise me,” he demanded even though what he wanted to do was beg.
She opened and closed her mouth, unable to form words as he set a relentless pace, taking over as he thrust into her and thumbed her clit.
“Fucking promise me!” He growled, forcing himself into her in hard, merciless thrusts.
“Aaaah! Ja—”
“You’re mine. You’re fucking mine, get it? This isn’t— We aren’t just da-dating. I’m your husband. You can’t just leave like that.” He forced himself deep and inadvertently hit her cervix. She jolted in his arms and let out a pained cry, letting him know his mistake and he pressed a kiss to her cheek in a silent apology.
“Sorr— hnnng! ‘m sorry Jav—”
A tear slipped down her cheek and he kissed it, tasting her. He breathed her name the way a dying man would call for his god in desperation. He prayed her name, each syllable a request of Save me, never leave me, breathe life into this wretched man.
She pulsated around him, collapsing on his chest and relying on him to hold her up as she reached her peak. She was deadweight in his arms and he held her tight as he reamed into her, her back arching and her hair cascading down her back, shaking from his hard thrusts. She took him along with her, erasing his world and making herself his everything. She had dragged him to the peak of the world and now she was pulling him down and he went with her willingly, taking everything she gave him, getting lost in her body. She was like a breath of air after drowning for eternity, she gave him life, gave him meaning even though she’d been the one to rob him of it.
He wiped her tears and kissed her all over, showering her with all the love he had for her. But it wasn’t enough. No matter how much he poured out, he couldn’t show her the depth of his feelings for her. No words compared, no kisses came close to the place she had in his life. No matter how many times he told her he loved her, she would never know just how much.
“Te amo, Javi,” she broke off from their kiss to whisper. He collapsed on the bed and brought her down with him. He pecked her lips once and then twice before setting his gaze on her eyes.
“Si me amas…” he paused to take a breath. “¿por qué me dejaste? ¿Por qué?”
She looked down at her lap and fidgeted with her rings as she spoke, “Y-yo no quiero perderte.”
He shook his head as he said, “No me perderás. Yo soy tuyo.” He took her hand and placed it on his chest over his heart. “Tuyo.”
She scoffed, her hand curling over his chest. “More Escobar’s than mine at this point.”
“What?”
She shook her head and looked away, avoiding his eyes. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to— I shouldn’t complain.”
“No. No, you talk to me. What is this about?”
“We’ll fight if we talk about it. Like Steve and Connie.”
“Do you…? Do you want to leave…? Like Connie did?” He asked, unable to steady his shaking voice. Three weeks with her gone was hell enough. If she wanted to take off permanently, he didn’t know what he would do with himself. Hunting the hijo de puta had become his purpose in life over the past few years. But he now had another important purpose, a woman he’d made promises to. Promises he was insistent on keeping.
She shook her head.
He sighed as he tucked her hair behind her ear, needing to see her without anything in the way. It was fucking frustrating, not knowing what worried her so much that she couldn’t even talk to him about it, that she chose instead to run away from him. But he had to be kind if he wanted her to open up.
He began by caressing her cheek with the back of his hand. Gently, like soothing a wounded child. “Baby… If you don’t tell me what this is about, how am I going to fix it? Hmm?”
“It can’t be fixed,” she said, same as that day.
It took him a moment to know how to answer her.
“When I asked you to marry me, you asked that I give you all of me. Have I not kept that promise?” He asked, knowing that he had so far. No matter how ugly, no matter how broken, he brought home all of himself. To her credit, she accepted him just as he was.
She nodded and said, “you have.”
“Now I’m asking. I want everything, too. Whatever you’re hiding from me that has you worried will make us fight. Is it about my job?”
“I’m sorry,” she said as she nodded, head hung low as tears spilled out.
“No, no, nothing to be sorry about. Just talk to me. What about my job?”
“S-scared.” His chest tightened at the trembling of her voice. Relationships were not something he was comfortable with after he left Lorraine and it was alright for his dangerous new lifestyle as an agent in Colombia. There was no one else he was putting in danger because of his line of work. But then he had to go and fall in love.
It was one of the reasons he proposed to her as soon as he could. Being his wife offered her more legal protection than did being his girlfriend. And knowing that she was it for him, he saw no point in waiting. But she was still afraid for her safety.
He reached out quickly to reassure her.
“I’m here, okay? Our home is safe. Those bastards won’t dare touch you here, won’t dare touch a US federal agent’s wife. I got you,” he whispered into her ear and rubbed her back, hoping to help her relax in his arms. She didn’t. She just tensed.
“‘m not worried about m-myself,” she said softly. “Ever since Steve got kidnapped, I—”
He took in a deep breath and pulled her in closer even though there was no gap between them. What was he supposed to do? Tell her he was safe? Lying wasn’t something he was ready to do in their marriage. Even if he did, she wouldn’t believe him after she had to comfort a panicking Connie. He had the same job as Steve, faced the same dangers. It could be him next. And he might not be lucky enough to come home.
The CNP guys were in much greater danger than he was as an American. Call it gringo privilege. But he couldn’t make promises. He couldn’t promise that a jump from the roof wouldn’t end up terribly. He couldn’t promise that he would never catch a stray bullet. He couldn’t promise that a crazy motherfucker wouldn’t target him for the bragging rights over nabbing a US agent.
Small town sheriff Javier Peña hadn’t thought of all this when he signed up for this job in his mid twenties. There was just an opportunity to run away from a town that hated him— a town he hated more for how it smothered him from all sides as he grew and grew yet it remained small, insignificant. It was his chance to do something great, to be the good guy fighting big bag guys and he took it. He hadn’t been warned that he’d one day be sat holding his sobbing wife, speechless because he couldn’t make the most basic promise— to fucking stay alive.
“I’m sorry,” she whimpered, the tremble in her voice tugging at his heartstrings.
“No, no. I’m sorry.” Sorry I can’t give you more. Sorry I made you cry. He pulled her into his arms and sat on the couch, cradling her in his lap more for his comfort than hers.
“I shouldn’t complain. I know I married a man with a dangerous job. I signed up for all this, but… ‘m so scared, Javi. I can’t sleep at night. I wake up from nightmares and I lose you every single time. I get scared when I get a call because what if—” she stopped, breaking down into sobs.
There was nothing he could do to fix this, she was correct. The thing that was causing her all this agony was his whole life.
“Do you want me to quit my job?” He asked, regretting it the minute the question left his lips. What if she said yes? What if that was the only way to fix their marriage? He would quit. There was no question about that. But that would mean that almost a decade of his life’s work would be worth nothing. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself. Resentment would break anything they had left between them.
Please don’t ask that of me.
She shook her head and he had to keep himself from letting out a huge sigh of relief.
“Do you know I have students who— I shouldn’t tell you. I’m not on the field like you and I don’t know all the things you know, but I see everyday how he’s fucking ruined lives. I want you to catch that motherfucker. You’re in this fight and I’m not letting you leave it without crushing his blood empire. I just don’t want us to be collateral damage. I can’t bear losing you whether it is to divorce or a bullet. I can’t—” she brought her hand to her lips, biting on her newly shaped nails.
He swallowed, tugging her hand away from her mouth and giving it a kiss. “I can’t make promises about the latter,” he said softly, unable to look her in the eyes as he said it. He didn’t want to know what he did to her with those words. “You know I can’t. But when I die, whether it’s tomorrow or 40 years from now, I’ll die your husband. I don’t do divorce. You might think it’s not a big deal for me, the guy who left his first fiancé at the altar. But trust me, you’re a catch and there’s no way I’m letting you escape”
She laughed and nuzzled into his neck. He rested his head on hers and pressed a kiss to her hair. “I’m not joking. You should be very scared, baby. As far as I’m concerned, I’m it for you. Won’t let you leave no matter what you do.”
“Yeah?” She laughed, her eyes glinting with tears but also something new. Her lips quirked up in a mischievous smile. “What if I slept with a bunch of guys?”
He raised an eyebrow, reeling the unhinged jealous little man in his heart to join her in whatever this was that made her smile through her tears. “Good for them. Best pussy they’ll ever have. I mean, I will beat them to death for touching you. But you’re still my wife. Not divorcing you.”
“What if I fucked Steve?” She challenged, raising an eyebrow.
He knew what she was doing. She was making it personal, putting a face to the act and making said face a very familiar one. But he wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.
“Last thing he’ll ever do in his life. I’ll kill him and Connie will help me hide his body.”
“Mhmm? What if…..?” She trailed, looking into the distance as she stroked her invisible beard. “What if I let someone else knock me up?”
“You bitch!”
She gasped and shoved at his chest. “How dare you call me a bitch!?”
“How dare you even think of letting another man do that?”
“I won’t actually do that!” She defended, folding her arms over her chest. “I’m just trying to get a raise out of you.”
“And you did,” he supplied, making her scoff.
“How about…? Okay! What if I fucked Escobar?”
“Shit, I would tell everyone!” He laughed. “My wife? Getting that close to that piece of shit and living to tell the story? Yeah, I’d be on the rooftops with a megaphone. Oh and I’ll kill him. Of course. Goes without saying.”
“Well, you were gonna kill him anyway. What will you do to him for touching your wife?” She asked, twirling his overgrown hair around her finger.
Was this…? Noooo! He was just joking, but she seems to like the idea of him killing men for wanting her.
“Baby, what’s wrong with you?” He asked, laughing. She surprised him every goddamn day.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” she licked her lips and drew shaped on his chest with her index finger. “There should be an explanation for why I signed up for all this.”
“You like this, don’t you?” He asked, lowering the register of his voice the way she liked as he took her chin between his thumb and forefinger. “You want me to possess you, to hurt anyone who would want you that way I have you. You like that I can be a dangerous man.”
She shivered, but quickly stabilised herself, looking very blasé as she spoke, “Huh, that answers my question. I always wondered what kind of idiot would be with Escobar. I guess women just like to fuck a powerful man. And money. She’d gotta be in it for the money.”
“She married him before he got rich, actually. And it’s not just women who are attracted to powerful men,” he added, letting her know just how much he liked when she was in a position of power.
“Men too? You’re gonna tell me you want to fuck Escobar?” She asked, making him laugh. He pinched her bum, making her squeal and attempt to get off him. He pulled her back in immediately, not ready to lose contact.
“When I came to your class, I sat in the back the entire time. I enjoyed seeing you in your element, leading the discussion, getting a big room full of people to listen to you. And your ass in a pencil skirt. If I was your student, I would wank off every day thinking of you” he groaned, his cock twitching inside her at the mental image.
“Oh my god!” She exclaimed before hitting him playfully.
“Whaaat? I feel bad for those fuckers in your class, having to talk about Frankenstein’s monster to impress their hot little literature professor.”
“Don’t sexualise my job!” She looked positively scandalised. Like he’d suggested that she let him fuck her on the streets.
“Uh huh? Now you know how it feels? What was that you asked me for your birthday?” He teased. “On yds, the little interrogation fantasy. You’ve been begging me to tie you up and interrogate you.”
She hid her smile from him, covering her face with her hands, but he pried them off to see her looking so sweetly shy at being reminded of the depraved things she wanted him to do to her. “You don’t have to do it,” she said, shy and quiet and she played with her rings.
“Mmm thank you baby, but I’m gonna make your dreams come true. Just be happy I’m not CIA. Cause CIA has some terrible interrogation methods. They’ll fucking waterboard you.”
“Oh my god! Okay this isn’t fun anymore,” she said, getting off him, but he pulled her right back onto his cock, laughing as he caught her expression.
“Let me go!”
“No, no sorry. I shouldn’t talk about the CIA in bed, they’re such a turn off.”
“You think that’s why I’m trying to escape?? Javi, women don’t like talking about waterboarding with a dick inside them.”
“Okay, okay, I know. Just stay in bed. I have today off and I need to be inside you,” he said, rubbing her back in an attempt to coax her into foregoing her household responsibilities for a lazy day in bed with him.
“I have work to do. Papers to grade and clothes to wash. Oh and some pervert,” she said, poking his chest a few times. “has been stealing my panties so I have to go wash them before he gets to them.”
“Oh please, it was just one pair,” he lied, looking away quickly but it wasn’t enough for him to get away with it.
She squinted her eyes at him and he relented. “Fine. It was three. Pink one with the stripes, blue lace ones and a white cotton panty.”
“Pervert!”
“Or I’m just really in love with my wife. You should see the sweet side of it. You don’t know how other guys act on the field. It’s like as soon as they’re in Medellin, they aren’t married.”
“Uh huh?” She said as she tilted her head, her tone suggesting that she wasn’t convinced by his words. “And I’m supposed to be grateful that you aren’t sleeping around? Pendejo!” She punctuated her curse with a slap to his chest.
“That’s not what I meant!” He defended, taking her slapping hand and giving it a kiss.
“Sure, Cabrón.”
He laughed, amused at how adorable she was when angry. He pulled her down to lie down with him, her head on his chest and his hand in her hair. Mornings like these had become so rare. Even without their period of separation, they didn’t have quality time together. Work always called, always overwhelmed and left him with very little to give as a husband. Being too tired to do anything else, he couldn’t even take her out anywhere for dinner. But that would change tonight.
“I made dinner reservations for us. Are you free tonight?”
He’d booked it a while back, but he didn’t know if she would want to go with him after she left. And he didn’t want to promise her a date night before he knew for sure that he would have the day off from work. She did not take it terribly when he had to calculate on her for work, but something told him it wasn’t good for a marriage to keep breaking promises.
“Hmm, I don’t know. This pendejo said he’ll paint my nails and did a half assed job. I might have to book a nail appointment for the night,” she teased, making him laugh. He’d completely forgotten that their activities were preceded by his request to paint her nails.
“I’ll finish the job now,” he said, getting up, but she pushed him back down and trapped him in a loving hug.
“Later. I just wanna stay like this a little longer. Feels good…”
“I like when you hold me like this, mi amor,” he confessed, his voice softening as he opened himself up to allow himself to bask in the euphoria that holding her to his chest brought him.
“I- it calms me down. I need to hear your heart beating. I wake up from bad dreams sometimes and I can’t fall back asleep if I don’t lie down like this.”
He froze. He had no idea she had nightmares. “You never told me.”
“Didn’t want to worry you.”
He said her name softly, making her look up at him from his chest.
“You have to tell me these things,” he said, moving her hair out of the way so he could have an unobstructed view of her. Her features were soft, her eyes open, vulnerable.
“You have a lot on your plate already… I don’t want to be one of your problems.”
“Jesus,” he swore before sighing. “You’re not- I’ll never think of you as a problem. I understand why you worry. It’s not unwarranted. I would never ask you to hide your feelings for me. I thought we talked about these things. You’re the one who’s always telling me that we should communicate about difficult things. What happened to that?”
“Do you remember when I made you choose? Either date me for real or stop coming over for anything other than sex?”
He hummed in response, encouraging her to continue. They'd been fooling around for around two months back then and one night when he was dressing himself to leave, she forced him to confront how he’d been treating her— he’d been giving her mixed signals, pulling her in and pushing her away. He’d act like her boyfriend one minute but get distant the next and she was understandably annoyed.
“And you said you wanted to date me but you warned me that your job was dangerous and that attachments were a weakness. I didn’t want to be your weakness, I still—”
He shook her head, interrupting her mid-sentence, “I was talking out of my ass, I was just scared. And it’s different now. We’re—”
“Yeah but when I think of you strapping a gun and badge on yourself to go out and get shot at by those malparidos, I want to stop you,” she choked on her words, getting up off his chest and hugging her knees to her chest. “I told you I could handle it. That day and the day you asked me to marry you. But, I can’t. I can’t handle it. Ever since Steve was kidnapped- and I know you said he wasn’t in any real danger, but fuck! It was terrifying to see Connie like that and I couldn’t help but worry and put myself in her place. And I couldn’t stop thinking about every terrible thing that could happen to you and I just wanted to lock you up at home. So I left- because I don’t want to be your weakness. But I can’t be brave, I can’t be strong.”
It broke his heart to know that behind the scenes, behind her easy smiles and her strong shoulders he leaned on everyday, there was so much fear. So much insecurity. There was shame too. Had he been more attentive, he would’ve known without her having to tell him, without her having to run away.
He sat up, pulled her close and placed a kiss on her head. “You are brave and you’ve been so strong, putting up with more of my shit than you need to… Sometimes I think I won’t get through this with my soul intact if it weren’t for you. So never think that you’re my weakness.”
She listened, her eyebrows furrowed and eyes never leaving him. She bit down on her lip, pulling at the skin with her teeth, something she did when anxious. He reached over and thumbed her lip, not wanting to wait until she started bleeding.
“I… I’ve put you in a difficult position, but I would never ask you to hide your fears for my comfort. And you leaving definitely did not make me stronger. Just scared the hell out of me. I thought I’d done something so shit that you’d left for good.”
“Sorry I left… I just—”
“I’m sorry you couldn’t talk to me. Not like that would’ve solved anything,” he scoffed, rubbing his eyes. “Nothing short of stopping that bastard is going to solve this.”
“I know, I know…” she sighed.
“I’ll get him,” he affirmed, taking her hands in his. All the things he’d done since he landed in Colombia, all the things he’d lost because of that man… To think he might lose her too… It was chilling. He’d lost friends, made enemies, became the guy everyone called an asshole for not cutting corners, for not putting up with anything that wasn’t right. He’d lost so much, but she wasn’t going to be one of them. He wouldn’t allow it.
Javier Peña wouldn’t rest until Escobar was history.

Narcos fic: Old Acquaintance
Happy New Year! This is my contribution to the @pickled-pena challenge. It was such a fun idea I couldn't resist trying to whip something up for it. I'm taking a Tumblr break for January so I'm actually scheduling this to post and I'm looking forward to seeing other people's fics when I get back 🥰 (or on AO3 before that!)
Because I'm apparently only capable of writing the exact same dynamic over and over, this is sort of a spiritual sequel to Where the Love Light Gleams, only set at New Year's instead of Christmas. 🤷‍♀️
Title: Old Acquaintance Pairing: Steve/Connie + Javier Rating: Teen Word count: 550 Content/warnings: Post-series, pre-OT3, alcohol, sappiness, Javi getting loved on. Unbetaed.
Steve isn’t a belligerent drunk, but he is an argumentative one.
“You stand there and accuse me,” he protests, “but where were you at the time?”
It’s New Year’s Eve and they’re not as young as they once were. Instead of finding a pretty girl at a dance club or a house party, Javi is spending the evening sprawled comfortably on the Murphys’ living room sofa, nursing vodka martinis and half-watching Dick Clark on the TV out of the corner of his eye. The volume is nearly muted, allowing their conversation to flow with the drinks, and they’ve now reached the stage of the evening where innocent observations are being taken as personal affronts.
“I have a witness,” Javi tells him.
Steve’s mouth gapes. He looks at Javi, then turns to where Connie is sitting, suspiciously silent.
She breaks.
“I’m sorry, honey. You know how Javier is. He smooth-talked me.”
Javi shoots her a wink and she stifles a laugh.
“That’s dirty,” Steve says, rounding on him again. “Getting a wife to testify against her husband. I would’ve thought better of you.”
“Really?” Javi asks. That finally makes Steve laugh.
“My mistake,” he says. “Hey, I’ll forgive you if you get me another drink.”
They’ve been through enough shit that Javi’s not too worried about his forgiveness by now, but he sees that Connie’s glass is empty, too, and he’s feeling charitable so he hauls himself off the couch and steps into the kitchen.
The vodka’s in the freezer but he takes it upon himself to switch Steve to beer. He digs through the fridge for a bottle of Corona and cracks it open.
When he settles back in the living room he sits on the floor at Connie’s feet.
“You guys have a lot of pickles,” he mentions. If Steve were sober, he thinks, he’d call him out sarcastically for making such a scintillating remark, but instead he just purses his lips and agrees with a solemn nod.
Connie’s hand touches the crown of his head, and then her fingers are sliding through his hair, nails scritching gently, distractingly, at his scalp. Javi’s eyes fall shut in contentment.
“I’m making cubanos tomorrow,” she tells them.
Both men groan in pleasure at the prospect.
“I might never leave if you keep feeding me like this,” Javi warns her. She tugs on a lock of his hair.
“That’s the goal, baby.”
“Me and Connie talked about it,” Steve says. “It’s our new year’s resolution, we’re gonna convince you to move out here.”
Javi laughs but it makes his chest go all warm inside, being wanted like that. Texas is home but it’s a little lonely, too. The familiar big skies and the landscape of his dad’s ranch only go so far in competing with this cozy living room, with its ugly carpeting and overstuffed couches and boxy TV and Connie’s hand in his hair.
Steve turns up the volume as the countdown for the ball drop begins. When the new year lands, he hears Steve’s happy new year muffled against Connie’s mouth, and then her hand slides down to cup his cheek and tilt his head back, and then they’re both attacking his face in a volley of kisses until the sound of their laughter drowns out Auld Lang Syne on the TV.

you keep flirting with me and ill drive myself over
Oh will you now?
use my key and everything
You have had very little reason to use it lately.
thats cause youre so desperate youre already at the door
Desperate or welcoming?
both
I can be less desperate next time, if you prefer.
dont you fucking dare baby
So when you coming over?
already putting my shoes on
Tumblr media
It flies by, time.
One minute, he’s clutching your hands until your fingers slide from his. A promise in the air, one he knows you’ll keep because it's all temporary. Knowing that you’ll be right back, suitcase—and possessions following behind—as you move across the country.
Within a blink, Javi is asking you where you want things to go, in the little place you chose with so much ease. Spotting you unpack a photo frame, the photo strip from Houston front and centre, sitting on a bed of receipts.
The next, he’s sweating for reasons he’d rather not be.
His back twinging, protesting as he carries another box to the van. Your smile rises at the sight of him approaching, gesturing to pass it to you—still standing on the edge of the truck.
“Cariño. You’ve lived here six months. How have you amassed so much sh–tuff?”
Narrowing your eyes, taking the box and placing it on top of another, “Nice save.”
Sending you a sink, he smiles as you slide your hand in his to get down. Knowing he doesn’t ever need to feel them slide from his again—hopefully, no emotional goodbyes at the airport. Not ones that don’t involve you visiting someone for a long weekend here or there.
“Are you forgetting that I packed an entire suitcase the first time I saw you? Because knowing that information, I am surprised you’re confused that I’ve doubled my possessions since living here?”
Pulling you close, he focuses on how you feel warm against him—fitting against him perfectly. A feeling he’s had plenty of time to grow used to but finds he never does. How you slot with him, face turned upwards, looking at him like he moves mountains and walks across fire.
If you asked him, he would.
But you never do. You just look at him as though you know he would. Knowing he does.
He supposes it’s why you’re all set to move in with him. Into his home. His room.
This place—as lovely as it has been—will no longer be yours. The little home in the centre of town is tucked away above a video store that you’ve become a frequent customer of, whether he has plans with you or not.
From tomorrow morning, though, you’ll be waking up with him officially. The two of you have had months of it, where you’re there but not entirely with him. Even if, over time, your things have been left amongst his, some even finding themselves hanging alongside his. To the point a drawer was needed—and hangers. Still, for a while, when you said home, you had meant yours.
That was until the last few weeks. Your eyes shimmering, twinkling with the stars in the night sky, curled into his side. His green jacket, the one with the brown collar, wrapped around your shoulders, no longer smelled of old cigarette smoke and desperation but rather sweetness and hope. Your hand entwined with his:
Can we go home, baby?
Yeah, I can take you now.
No, to yours.
You poke him. Light, but purposeful. A little jab to bring him back, and the way you’re smiling at him—fuck. He can’t imagine a look that could make his heart double in size quicker. His thumb strokes alongside your cheek. His pink shirt—the one you had commandeered as your own—rolled up at the sleeves and tied at your waist.
Javi’s noticed you steal his clothes a lot. Fashion them into something that suits you better. He doesn’t moan. If anything, he makes it a purposeful thing to show you how much it means to him—how much he likes it, craves it.
“C’mon, only a few more boxes...”
Groaning, he buries his lips against yours, feeling your smile widen, grinning widely against him as you hold him close.
Your teeth pull at his bottom lip before releasing it with a pop, a twinkle to your eyes. “… think of it like this: once the van is packed, we get more time to say goodbye before I have to return the keys.”
“Hmm,” he mumbles, keeping you in place with two fingers under your chin. “And how do you plan on us saying goodbye, baby?”
Sliding your nose against his cheek. “Loudly. I plan on saying it loud, baby.”
Tumblr media
You packed me a note in my lunch?
I did
It wasn’t very safe for work.
you said you eat your lunch at your desk
Yes but I’m not a loner, Javi. I do eat lunch with people.
lesson learned then baby
But yes.
yeah?
I don’t think the porch table will cope though, may have to think of a more stable surface.
I think I can think of something
No wood! I am not having you pick splinters out of my ass again, baby.
that was on you
I think it was on you and your speech about how beautiful I looked being a ranch-hand.
Tumblr media
Do you fancy coming to my office Halloween party?
do I have to dress up
Yes. But if it makes you feel better, I’ll be dressed up too.
before I decide what are you dressing up as
That’s the incentive to come, if you say yes I’ll tell you.
do you want me there
Yes! Want to show you off
then ill be there baby
Because you like being showed off?
yes. but also because you want me there
Tumblr media
While outwardly, he’d protested the trip to Miami from the moment you booked it off work up until he was sat beside you on the place, he does see the beauty in it.
Although, Javi primarily suspects that it is down to you. You with your legs out, you in a bikini on the beach, robbing his shades until he buys you your own—a matching pair, something that makes Steve chuckle and Connie aww.
The lazy mornings that remind him of Houston are nice, too. The ones where neither of you are woken by an alarm or his Pop’s awful singing. The backdrop of the airy hotel room and a warm, gentle breeze blowing the sheer curtains as his thumbs dig into the back of your thighs and make you chant, is a bonus.
Because Javi can make your skin glisten, and your body sing, whenever and wherever he gets the chance.
What he can’t have at home with you is the sight of you fitting in so easily with the two people who have become a second family. The ones who have seen him go to lengths he hadn't known was possible, him and his old partner seeing things that only appear in occasional nightmares now.
Connie and Steve welcomed you in with ease and with them, you smiled so effortlessly. Blending in like you were always there—laughter bursting out of you when you’re playing with Olivia.
It's there, ever-present on the beach, as you chase Olivia around in the sand. The castles the two of you had been making long since trodden on, as the little girl squeals and squeals until she’s caught.
“You should marry her.”
Turning his head, Steve nods towards the three of you. Connie snapping photos as you roll in the sand. The yellow tinge from his aviators adds an additional glow to the world as he eyes up his former partner-turned-friend—a friend who apparently now gives unwarranted marriage advice.
Scratching his chin, he rolls his jaw. “You giving me permission, Murph?”
“C’mon, Jav. She’s nice, good to you. Clearly makes you very fuckin’ happy.”
“Yeah, well. Maybe I’m already planning it.”
“Yeah? Fuck. Can’t wait to tell Connie. She told me I needed to convince you.”
Javi shrugs, pushing the glasses up his nose. “It so hard to believe I’d have come to that conclusion on my own?”
“Before you met her? Yeah. Since her? No. Could tell you were smitten—”
Snorting, Javi runs his hand across his chin. “I was not fucking smitten.”
“Yeah, you fucking was. No shame in that, Jav. No shame in enjoying one good woman.”
Groaning, he turns back to the laughter. The corner of his lips twitched, wishing to slide into his cheeks as he watches you throw your head back, neck exposed, as Olivia tries to do a handstand.
“I got the ring last month.”
“Shit.”
Turning his head, he narrows his eyes, watching Steve put his hands up in defence.
“You just said—“
“Yeah, well. Forgot how determined y’can be about things. Surprised me. S’not a bad thing,” Steve says. “Just, y’know. Years ago, I knew you as the man who fucked his way through—“
Elbowing him, Javi smirks as he hears Steve splutter. A sharp look added as Steve holds his hand up.
“I’m not that person anymore, Murphy.”
His friend nods, apology falling. The evidence that he means it stitching into his expression—that he was just joking, teasing. An explanation coming, that he knows how he’s changed—all words he would have once craved hearing. But since meeting you, he’d found even the teasing didn’t upset him as much.
Clapping his hand on his shoulder, Javi looks over his shades. “I know. Alright. Just, I don’t like the reminder, that's all. Feels like… feels like a lifetime ago.”
“Y’telling me.”
Snorting, Javi slides his hand off. Moving his eyes back to the sight of Olivia grinning at the two of them. Her small hand trying to cover her mouth as she whispers something to you, something which Javi suspects involves him from the way she’s running full speed towards him.
“She’s grown up so quickly.”
He’s about to reply, but Olivia interrupts—skidding to a stop in the sand, kicking it across his feet. Swiftly, her hand—all small and delicate—wraps around and tugs on his hand.
“Uncle Javi, can you come play?”
Over the top of her, he spots you. Leaning your weight on one side, hand covering your brows to watch his expression.
And fuck, how can he say no to either of you.
Tumblr media
hows pops?
He’s good. In fact, enough to be getting your Mom’s cookbooks down from the shelf for me.
I hope you know thats him saying he loves you
He has told me how much it means to him that I wanted these. Also keeps telling me that he’s happy they’ll be staying in the family.
bet that made you cry didn’t it
Yes! Obviously.
youre so cute baby
In my defence he caught me off guard with the comment, I was busy staring and deciphering the handwritten notes.
not gonna be able to read them now if youve cried all over them
As always, you’re hilarious. I obviously didn’t cry into the book! I cried in the bathroom.
you turn the tap on to try and hide it again
Shut up, Javi.
i should be back soon, just grabbing the parts now
Don’t rush, he’s fine. Promise. He even says his back is barely giving him any problems since I told him I’d cook from the book.
what you cooking?
Come home safe and find out.
youre such a tease
Learned it from you baby.
Tumblr media
At one stage, Javi had been good with people.
Persuasive.
Now, he’s unsure if he even knows how to ask for a favour without giving something up or flirting.
He’s still charismatic, or so you tell him. But, he's pretty sure his tact has gone, impatience bubbling as he tries to pretend to give enough of a shit to be able to ask for the favour he wants.
For you, he decides to push through. To not walk back through the door he came through. He does stuff his hands into his jacket, the man staring at him, still wearing the same confused expression he had when Javi first stepped through the door.
Because even if he’s explained three fucking times, the man still doesn’t understand why he asked him to create the crossword he’s got clutched in his hands.
The one that would never even go to print—just a single request. A favour. All personal, just for him. Not to be published in every newspaper, but just one.
The one for him, and him alone.
It didn't matter how many ways he explained it, the man remained confused. Only reluctantly accepting, he's sure, to get him to leave.
That had been days ago. Now, you're ahead of him. Your fingers brushing over the tops of long stands, occasionally looking over your shoulder at him, making him feel like he's stepped into one of the movies you've made him watch.
Even when you look ahead, he can tell you’re grinning from behind—taking the view in. It's 'one of your favourites', something you’d told him the first time he brought you here.
It’s why he brought you here, now.
Second to you, of course, baby.
You stop some distance ahead, beginning to place down a blanket, all chequered and soft, as he comes to join you. Placing the basket in his hand down on the edge of it, before your fingers are swatting at him and undoing the ties before you grasp the bottle, food and other bits.
Not that he can eat, needing more than what the wine you’d grabbed would do.
Nerves bubbling, dancing and fluttering like the flies further down the hill. You don't notice. You're focused on the newspaper, the crossword he's not let you see for the last few hours, taunting you, making you wait.
He almost wishes he hadn't when it adds to the knot in his stomach, it tightening more when you become irritated at his coyness as he's reading out the clues—
Javi, what are you up to? You always do down, across, down. Always.
You’d have made a good detective or DEA agent.
Likely given him and Murphy a run for their money—something Steve had even said to you both when the two of you were in Miami. Sand in your toes, sea air in your hair—grin brighter than the sun.
“Give it here,” you say, not sharply, but not playfully either.
His hand wipes his lower mouth, hiding his smirk, having wanted you to do that for the past fifteen minutes.
When you take the crossword, you’re chewing.
Distracted, barely able to spot him sliding the remainder of your punnet from reach. Because Javi remembers how you feel about being asked any critical questions when you are eating.
He supposes it's the one benefit of you making him watch so many romcoms. It allowed him to do market research and ask questions without raising your suspicion, such as where wouldn't you like to be asked and if you want him down on one knee.
Mainly, I don’t want to have food in my teeth when I’m being asked. Don't want to spit any leftovers at you in my shock.
“Hey,” he whispers, stealing your attention—watching you smile, glancing at your clean teeth. “Eres preciosa.”
Your lips slide, curling up into your cheek. “You’re such a flirt, Peña.”
Kissing your cheek, he keeps his arm around you. Fingers playing with the fabric on your hip—balling it up before smoothing it out. Thumb and index brushing, calming, soothing him as your eyes glance over the page.
Occasionally, asking him things, avoiding the clues he desperately wants you to solve.
Until.
Fuck, until.
“Javi.”
“Hmm,” he mumbles, pretending indifference, head tilted down, resting his chin on your shoulder—knowing from the high-pitched way you said this name that you’ve already cracked it.
Your fingers slide over the paper, smothering the white and black boxes from view. “Javi?”
“Yes, baby.”
“I think that’s my reply, isn’t it?”
Lips curling, he wraps his fingers around your chin, turning you to face him. Watching it happen in slow motion, how you smile before you grin—tears all but filling your eyes as you clearly try not to get ahead of yourself.
“You wanna make me less lonely, cariño?”
Swallowing, you drop the paper. Let it fall to the blanket, twisting your body until your knees are between his thighs as you take both sides of his cheeks.
“Sí.”
“Sí?”
Nodding, a tear falls. It's one shimmering with joy and happiness, his thumb swiping it, spreading it across your skin.
“I don’t know… I don’t know the translation,” you laugh, it spluttering, fingers stroking his skin. “But I’ll marry you. I love you. Yes, Javi.”
And he whispers it.
The translation. Pressing it, as well as I love you, to your lips as his arms snake further around your waist. Hearing you, all quiet, it almost buried in kisses, repeating the translation back.
Before he falls backwards into the grass, with you on top of him—his fiancé. His world.

Italics = flashback // masterlist
The heat of Bogotá was starting to make you senile, even while sitting in the DEA office that’s loaded with fans to circulate the stale, hot air. The papers filled with valuable information you’ve been staring at were beginning to strain your eyes, the small lettering from the typewriter swirling across the page.
You've been here for what felt like days, even though it's only been a handful of hours since you arrived this morning. The ashtray on your desk still emitted a thin line of smoke from the cigarette you had just snuffed out, and the coffee you brewed yourself a few hours ago had long gone cold from neglect.
Setting down the files in your grasp, your free hand rose up to your face, resting your head in your palm. Some days it felt like your job was impossible. No matter what you or your partners, Steve Murphy and Javier Peña did, Escobar always seemed to slink away just in the nick of time; even with the help of Carrillo and the search bloc.
It didn’t help that your mind was clouded by something else that happened just the night before. Something you never expected would happen since yours and Steve’s arrival to Colombia.
The two of you were both assigned to Escobar’s case and flew in together with Connie and their- now deceased- cat. However, you aren't from Miami like Steve is. You're actually from the west coast, Oregon to be exact.
“Y’alright, Darlin’?” You heard Steve’s voice across the room, prompting you to lift your head. The blonde, lanky man stood leaning against the doorframe to your office with a steaming coffee and freshly lit cigarette in his grasp.
“Just… one of those days.” You murmured, giving the man a faux smile before sighing softly.
“Are you going to tell Murphy?” Peña spoke after exhaling from a drag. He sat on the couch in his apartment, shirt off with his jeans still unbuttoned, staring down the bare skin of your back you had yet to clothe.
You scoffed, shaking your head while pulling up your pants, “Absolutely not. This was a ‘one and done’ type of situation.”
You slept with Javier on a whim; drunk, exhausted, and desperate to catch a quick release. Though after the two of you finished, it was a sobering experience to realize you had just fucked your coworker.
Since moving here and meeting him, you couldn’t deny that you’ve developed feelings over time; despite his reputation of sleeping around. Working long, late hours with him and Steve, you came to learn he isn’t as horrible as the gossips in the office seem to think he is.
But even with that knowledge, you couldn’t let yourself get hurt. Not by him. Not when you have to face each other at work almost every day.
“It’s only noon.” Steve smirked, raising the mug in his grasp to take a sip of the coffee.
“I had a long night.” You responded, eyes meeting your partners once again. You trusted Steve with your life. Being placed in dangerous, life threatening situations will make you feel that way about the people you experienced them with. But, you couldn't tell him that you and Javier slept together last night.
Especially because Steve has been teasing the two of you about your evident chemistry for months now; both him and Connie whenever the four of you would get dinner or drinks.
But you were firm on the idea that a relationship with him wasn’t going anywhere. Besides, as soon as Escobar was either jailed or dead, you'll most likely go your separate ways, returning to the home states you came from. And you couldn't let a relationship get in the way of your career.
You're still relatively young, having just turned thirty three months ago. You worked your ass off to be in the position you are now, a DEA agent, despite your field being mostly dominated by men. Misogynistic, dick-headed, men.
And you certainly weren't going to let one of those men- Javier, to a lesser degree- get in your way.
---
“I have to confess something,” You drunkenly slurred, looking at the woman seated on the couch next to you. Connie’s eyes widened as a mischievous, eager-for-gossip grin covered her face.
The two of you had planned a girls night on one of your days off. Constantly working and being around testosterone all the time was frustrating, so any time spent with Connie was cherished.
The two of you really became close on the flight from Miami to Colombia. Instead of flying out from Oregon, you first flew across the country and met Steve in Florida. After a few weeks preparing for your new assignment along with your new partner, you, Steve and Connie departed to Colombia.
“What?” She giggled, sipping the margarita in her grasp.
“I slept with Peña, like two weeks ago.” You murmured, watching the woman's face twist into all sorts of emotions, mainly shocked.
“Really?” She finally found the words to speak.
“We got drunk and it just kind of happened,” You shrugged, taking a sip of your own drink.
“Can I ask… How was it?” She giggled as she asked the question, a goofy grin crossing her face, cheeks heating up.
His rough hands grabbed at your ass as you rode him on the couch, skin slapping from how fast he was guiding you. You could feel every inch of his condom-covered cock fill you up, and only craved more as you feverishly rubbed your clit.
Your eyes met his own amongst the pleasure, making your chest flutter from the intensity and passion. He was hungry for your body; the taste, the feel. It’s something he's been craving for months; watching you parade around in your tight skirts. Steve gave him shit about it constantly, clocking nearly immediately how much Javier took a liking to you, but he always brushed it off.
“God, cariño,” He groaned, watching your breasts bounce. You bit your lip as he wrapped his arms around your waist and lifted you up, switching positions so your back was now on the couch and he was standing.
His cock plunged back into you immediately, causing you to call out his name, nails digging into his arms which had moved down as his hands grasped your hips.
“Javi,” It was breathy and caused him to falter at how sexy his name sounded falling from your lips. He’s heard it a million times before, but not like this, not so needy and whiny.
It caused him to pick up his pace, watching your face twist with delight as he fucked you into the couch. Many women have been in this very spot, but you outstand them by far. Your pussy fit his throbbing cock like a glove, your breasts are the perfect shape and size for his hands and lips, your mouth did wonderful things as well. The blowjob you gave him before you fucked nearly made him bust like a damn teenager.
“Oh, you're going to make me cum,” Your voice rasped out of your throat as your nails dug into his biceps. This would be the third time he's making you finish for the night, a personal record. You haven't had amazing partners in bed in the past.
The familiar burn began to form in your lower belly, your nerves feeling as though they were electric. The man released his hand from your hip and moved it to your core, thumb quickly rubbing your clit in fast circles.
“Cum for me, hermosa,” He grunted, feeling your pussy clench around his cock. The sensation caused his own orgasm to begin to rush up on him, prompting him to thrust faster.
Your orgasm washed through your body as you moaned Javier’s name loudly, head tilted back into the couch cushions from the overwhelming sensation. You could feel the man's thrusts get sloppier until he too came, cock buried deep in your pussy with a groan, little whispers of praise leaving his lips.
“It was uh-” You paused, feeling your own face gaining heat at the memory, “Good. I'll tell you that.”
“I'm so happy that this happened.” Connie gushed, leaning forwards in excitement, “Steve and I have had a bet going on for months. He owes me five bucks.”
You shook your head and rolled your eyes, wanting her to relish in the excitement before you dropped the bombshell of reality onto the woman. As much as Connie and Steve- apparently- wanted this to happen, it just wasn't going to. You made that clear with Javier, now you'll have to do the same with them.
---
“Hey,” Javier’s low voice caught your attention, causing your stomach to drop. You’ve been avoiding him to the best of your abilities since that night seven weeks ago.
Not only because you slept together, but also because, just last night, you found out you were expecting.
The light knock on your apartment door caused you to jump off of the couch and rush over, pulling open the entryway. Connie greeted you with a pitiful, yet encouraging grin. You could see the brown paper bag in her grasp as she slipped into your home, walking past you.
“Do you really think it’s-” She began, walking until she stood in the living room while also handing you the bag.
“Yes.” You cut her off, opening the paper bag to reveal two pregnancy tests. You felt your stomach churn at the sight and swallowed down the bile that threatened to come up.
“What did you tell Steve?” You asked, looking back up at the blonde before treading over to the bathroom.
“He's not even home yet. Him and Javier had to go somewhere following a tip regarding Poison.” She shrugged her shoulders, sitting down on the couch. You chewed your lip, not only anxious for the result of the pregnancy tests, but now for your boys. You should be out there with them... but you're sick at home because of one.
You nodded even though she couldn't see and quietly stepped into the bathroom. It didn't take long for you to do what the instructions asked, anxious enough for the result.
When you flipped the two tests over, revealing little pink pluses on each, bile immediately rose to your throat, causing you to rush over to the toilet and release the contents of your belly.
Connie was quick to knock on the door before entering, rushing over to your figure and rubbing your back for comfort. Her eyes caught a glimpse of the tests, widening when she saw the evident positive on both, before looking back down at your sad figure.
“Oh, honey,” She whispered softly as you raised your head, tears streaming down your cheeks hotly. She grabbed some toilet paper from nearby and gently patted them away, hand cupping your cheek.
“I just… didn't expect this.” You sniffled, shaking your head “We used protection, I-” You stopped and shook your head, a fresh set of tears streaming down your cheeks.
You haven't exactly slept without anyone since Javier. Anytime you tried picking up someone at the bar after work, they just weren't the same. You couldn't even make it past a heated make out session before feeling the need to kick them out or leave.
“What's up?” You didn't dare look at him, your stomach still twisting. You kept your gaze at the manila file in your grasp, facing shelves full of boxes containing files.
“You alright?” He questioned, stepping further into the room, eyeing down your back. You swallowed, hearing his footsteps as they got closer to your figure.
“I’m fine, why?” You furrowed your brow, finally raising your head and looking over your shoulder at the man. He could see the emotions you were so desperately trying to hide, making his own chest ache.
The truth is, the night you fucked had also been stuck on his mind. And the obvious avoidance you've shown has been messing with his head. He understood nothing more was to come from that night in his apartment, but he didn't expect you to be so cold; even at work.
When he walks into a room, you leave it. And if you're sitting at your desks, you always make an excuse to go work in the conference room. Not just that, but you also won't even look at him half the time, and only address Steve when the three of you are standing together.
“No reason.” Javier shook his head, “Murphy just wanted to know if you found the file?” He quickly changed the subject.
“Oh, uh, yeah. I just found it,” You began, finding the confidence to turn around and meet his gaze, “Was just reading through to make sure it was the right one.” You noticed how close he’d stepped into the small room; nearly trapping you against the wall of files. It made your heart race and emotions run amuck.
This is why you had been avoiding him.
Early pregnancy symptoms have been kicking your ass. And having Javier there to rub your back when you felt cramps, or hold your hair back when you were nauseous hanging over the toilet, was something you craved.
“We should get back to Steve then.” The man commented. You nodded, eyes averting from his face to his chest. The shirt he was wearing had been unbuttoned dangerously low, making your cheeks fill with heat. You no longer had to imagine what his bare chest looked like, as you've already gotten to see it.
“Is there something on my shirt?” Javier's voice broke you from your memory, and you felt your face gain heat rapidly.
“No.” You quickly stuttered out, shaking your head, and pushing past him to get out of the corner he had trapped you in.
---
By sixteen weeks, your pants wouldn't button anymore, and your bump was getting less easy to hide. You had to switch to baggier blouses and stretch pants. Luckily, having male work partners, they haven't noticed your changing body yet.
It came as a surprise because you've since quit smoking, drinking, and caffeinated coffee.
Connie has been keeping your secret well. You begged her not to tell Steve until you were ready, to which she agreed. She understood you needed time to figure everything out. Being a single, pregnant woman is mostly frowned upon this day in age. Not that you care about that bullshit, but you don't particularly enjoy being the center of attention.
You also need to figure out if and when you are going to tell Javier. Deep down, you know you should. And if you end up getting sent back to the states because everyone found out, then that's fine as well.
Your plan was to stay and help as much as you could, until near the end of your pregnancy. When it reaches that time, you'll take maternity leave combined with your vacation days, and fly back home. After your baby is born… you don't really know what you're going to do.
A knock on your apartment door caught your attention, and you stood up, brows furrowing. It was late, close to midnight. You had gotten off work a short amount of hours ago, but weren't expecting any visitors.
You reached into your purse and pulled out your gun, making sure it was loaded before slowly treading to the front door. Looking through the peephole, your stomach dropped as to who stood in the hallway.
Unarming your pistol, you placed it back onto your purse before returning over to the door and opening it.
“Javier?” You had seen him at work earlier, but his sudden appearance at your apartment, blocks away from his own, was a shock.
Despite trying your best to ignore him earlier in your pregnancy, you eventually learned to push your feelings about everything to the back burner and only talk shop. No personal life was discussed, only work.
“I need to talk to you.” He spoke, brown eyes boring into your own. You felt your stomach drop, nodding as you stepped aside and allowed him in. You could smell the alcohol on his breath as soon as he walked by you, heading towards the couch.
“What's up?” You questioned, pulling your robe tighter around your body while watching him sit. You had gotten out of the shower only twenty minutes ago, and hadn't bothered to get clothed yet, save for a bra and underwear.
“I need to ask you about the coordinates to Escobar's current hideout.” He spoke, pulling out a pack of cigarettes from his front pocket.
“Oh, um, please don't smoke in here.” You commented, swallowing heavily. The man gave you a quizzical look, tucking the cigarettes back into his pocket.
“Are you quitting or something?” He questioned.
“Something like that.” You spoke, sitting on the opposite end of the couch, “So, what questions do you have?”
“Carillo and the Search Bloc are going to drop into Escobar’s tomorrow morning. I'm having my informant confirm the coordinates once more, you should have yours do the same.” Javier answered, looking you down.
Seeing you there sitting in your robe, fresh out of the shower caused his heart to pick up and cock come to attention. Your cleavage had popped out, the robe slightly splitting open at the top when you sat down. He couldn't help but notice that your breasts seemed larger. Your legs were also deliciously exposed, and looked so soft.
The man just wanted to feel your skin; squish the meat of your thighs, kiss the gorgeous crevice where your legs meet your torso.
“I’ll get a hold of them.” You nodded towards him, “You came all this way just for that?” You then questioned.
The man muttered something about tapped phone lines- which you suspected was a lie- before asking if you had any liquor.
With a nod, you stood up and walked over to your kitchen, pulling a bottle of whiskey out the cabinet. You then poured him a glass before carrying both the freshly poured liquor and the bottle back over to the couch, placing them down in front of his figure.
Truthfully, you miss both drinking and smoking. But the health of your baby is more important than the poison you use to ease your mind.
Sitting back down, you watched the man take a hefty gulp before refilling his glass. You bit your lip, playing with the hem of your robe as the two of you sat there in silence. You were unsure of what to say, wanting to avoid everything besides work.
Your inner voice was suggesting otherwise, fighting for you to tell him the news. You know it isn't fair to keep it a secret, as he at least deserves to know that he’s going to be a father- Not that he has to stay and help raise the kid.
You have fully come to terms with the fact that you're going to be a single mom, raising the baby on your own.
“Javier…” You began, playing with your fingers. The man turned his gaze, searching your face, questioning as to what you're going to say. You took his silence as your signal to continue on, “Do you remember when we slept together four months ago?”
“How could I forget,” The man spoke, a smug expression crossing his face as he took a sip of his drink.
You rolled your eyes at his comment before taking a deep breath, “Uh, well. I-I think the condom broke.”
The man's cheerful expression quickly dropped into a serious one as he set the glass harshly down onto the table, standing up, “Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I'm sure.” You frowned in return, standing up as well and untying the robe to expose the small bump of your belly. You watched the man's eyes drop to your mostly naked body. He first stopped at your breasts, admiring how enticing they looked tucked in your bra, before trailing down to your stomach. He could see the shadow the bump caused, sending his heart into his throat.
“I found out at seven weeks. My period was late.” You broke the silence, retying your robe. “I admit I didn't know how to tell you- If I was even going to in the first place. But, I'm getting to a point where I can't hide it anymore. And…” You paused, swallowing, “You deserve to know.”
Javier only stared you down, resting his hands on his hips, “And you haven't slept with other guys?”
“No, I haven't slept with other men.” You felt hurt by his question even though it was reasonable. The two of you don't have a claim over the other, “I-I tried after our night together and… couldn't. I know that you're the father.” You brought your hand down to your bump. Your baby was still small, only being sixteen weeks along, but you have grown to love the thing with your whole heart.
“Look, I-I need time to think about this.” Javier muttered, shaking his head. You felt your heart begin to race at his comment, even though you'd already prepared yourself for heartbreak.
The man doesn't want to be tied down, he proved that by walking out on his wedding with Lorraine all those years ago, and the various women he circulates through in a week. You should've expected his rejection.
“I don't expect you to be a part of this.” You quickly spoke, trying to reassure him- and yourself, “I fully am ready to do it on my own. I have been since I found out. I won't tell anyone it's yours.”
He stared at you before nodding silently. This is certainly not what he expected when he came to your apartment this evening; he had different intentions. He missed you. He missed your body and the way you taste. The hookers and informants he's been fucking the last four months have been like dirt compared to you.
But now knowing that you were carrying his kid? It all felt so overwhelming.
“I-It’s probably best if you go…” You spoke so quietly, wrapping your robe tighter around your body, his silence beginning to make your heart race.
“Hermosa-” Javier began, but you saw him hesitate to speak. He only nodded and turned on his heel before stepping over to the door and leaving swiftly.
The moment Javier left your apartment, you couldn't stop the tears from spilling down your cheeks. You felt overwhelmed, sliding down the back of your front door after he had shut it, hands covering your face.
You felt guilty for kicking him out, and even regret it a little. Even though he told you he needed time, he looked so upset when you told him to leave. And what was he going to say just before exiting? Why did he stop himself?
You cried on the floor for god knows how long before making your way to your land-line, which sat on the side table next to the couch. You needed a friend- Connie- who usually made you feel better about the situation you're in.
The phone dial rang two times before someone answered. When you blubbered a somber greeting, you immediately recognized that Steve had answered when he questioned if you were alright.
“Steve,” You bit your lip, trying to swallow down the lump in your throat, “Can I speak to Connie?”
“She’s asleep,” His southern accent spoke loudly through your receiver, “Are you sure you're fine?”
you sighed heavily at his question, silent tears streaming down your face as you sat on the couch. You figured now would be the time to break the news. He’s become a close friend since meeting in Miami; both him and his wife.
“Steve, I have something to tell you.” You began with a sniffle, “I-I’m pregnant…”
Your partner was silent for several moments before he finally spoke, “Jesus. Does Connie know?”
“Yes. She helped me find out, actually.” You wiped your eyes before taking a deep breath, trying to calm down your emotions. The distraction of Steve was helping, along with lifting a heavy weight off of your shoulder. But Javier still lingered on your mind; his displeased face haunting the back of your eyes every time you blinked.
“Why didn't you tell me earlier? Does Peña know too?” Steve then questioned, causing your heart to wrench. A new lump formed and a fresh set of tears began to fill your eyes, spilling down your cheeks.
“Javier knows,” Your voice cracked as you spoke, “He’s the father.”
“Oh,” The blonde's deep voice came across quiet through the receiver of your telephone, “I’m so sorry.”
---
Bullets ricocheted across the surrounding brick walls, nearly hitting you as you quickly jumped behind a barrier. You could hear your partner yelling in Spanish from the rooftops, as he had taken a separate route, while you quickly hid from the gunfire.
Streams of silent curses left your lips, brick dust and chunks flying throughout the air from bullets. You could feel your heart beating against your chest, adrenaline pumping hotly, as you held your pistol in hand.
The gunfire finally stopped a handful of seconds later, but it was soon followed by the sound of a car peeling away down the street, causing you to peek over the wall. La Quica and Poison were gone and the street was empty due to the gunfire.
“Shit,” You cursed just as your partner approached the brick wall you hid behind.
“What the fuck were you doing?” Javier’s angry voice caused you to roll your eyes, reholstering your pistol before facing him.
“What?” You furrowed your brow in anger.
“You could've gotten hurt. You're not even wearin’ a fuckin’ vest.” He continued on, gesturing to the blouse donning your top. You merely stood and listened as he ranted. He never used to be this protective over you. Not even after you slept together and before you found out about your pregnancy.
“Why the fuck did you chase them?”
“We could've had them if you hadn't taken the roof!” You yelled back, arm raising as you harshly poked him in the chest.
Javier Immediately clenched his jaw, eyes narrowing towards your figure. You know he wanted to snap back vile words in return, but kept his composure. He couldn't bring himself to, not when you're pregnant, especially with his kid. He already made you draw the short straw, he didn’t need to cut it even smaller.
“Get your ass into the jeep.” He spoke through grit teeth, choosing to abandon the argument all together. You scoffed, kindling his temper even further. He needs a cigarette as soon as the two of you get back to the office.
-
“Peña told me about Poison and La Quica.” Steve’s southern drawl caused you to lift your head from staring at some paperwork.
“Did he also tell you about how he was a dumbass-”
“You need to get your head out of your ass, agent.” The blonde man spoke deadpan, cutting off whatever you were about to spew. He didn’t care, all he knew was that Javier had smoked four cigarettes in the span of an hour after you had gotten back. He finally confronted the man as to why the two of you were acting so off after your outing.
“Javier was scared. Though he may not act like it, he’s terrified of losing you- and the baby.” The man whispered the last part, knowing you haven’t told the rest of the office yet, “He admitted it to me just before I came to confront you. ”
You felt your heart clench, quickly averting your gaze from Steve, “I-I didn’t realize.”
“Peña may not have been the best choice to… procreate with. But, you’ve gotta throw him a bone.” Your partner mumbled softly, catching your attention once again.
“I’ll talk to him.” You swallowed with a nod, standing up from your desk.
-
“I’m sorry.” You immediately spoke once Javier had settled back at his desk. The man spent hours doing some meaningless task in the file room; most likely just to avoid you. “I haven’t been taking your feelings into account. I just… assumed you didn’t care.”
“I figured that was what you wanted.” Javier simply answered, eyes meeting your own. He leaned in his desk chair, arm draping over the backrest.
“No-” You quickly yelped, feeling your face gather heat, “I mean…Can we talk in the conference room?” You then whispered, suddenly so aware of your coworkers and how silent the office seemed. Nobody's eyes were on you and Peña, but you could tell they had purposely stilled their movements to hear better.
The man only gave you a simple nod, gesturing for you to lead the way.
Once the two of you had made it to the conference room, you quickly closed the door and blinds on the window-filled wall. The sensation of Javier's eyes on your back urged you to turn around.
“First, I want to apologize for acting like such an ass out in the field. I'm used to only having to worry about myself, and I wasn't thinking about…” You trailed off, hand hovering over your belly, “I should've been vested. And followed you onto the roof.” You added, finally making eye contact with the man.
He sat leaning against the conference table, arms folded which caused his biceps to bulge deliciously. You know if you weren't pregnant, he'd have a lit cigarette between his lips.
“I want to apologize too. I shouldn’t have acted out. I-” He cut himself off, standing up straight now, “I care about you, and the kid.” He gestured to your belly, glancing down. You had the bump hidden quite well under a flowy blouse, but even just knowing it was there caused his heart to pick up speed.
Unable to stop the smile from growing across your cheeks, you dropped your head shyly. He had spoken such simple words, but they meant everything to you. Never did you expect for him to say he was sorry, as well as admit emotion. It almost made you hopeful- but you quickly had to shut down that feeling, not wanting to get disappointed or hurt. You know that nothing is going to come from this. Javier is nothing more than your baby’s father. He’s probably just apologizing to keep you happy.
You then cleared your throat and met his gaze once more, having properly discouraged yourself, “So, are we good?”
“Yes.” He murmured.
You gave him one last nod before turning on your heel, approaching the door. Standing alone with him was beginning to feel overwhelming.
“Wait,” Javier interrupted your exit, grasping your bicep and pulling you back over to him. His other hand cupped your jaw in the process, pulling your gaze up to match his as his lips met your own with fervor.
Melting into the kiss, your arms grasped onto his shirt, pulling your chests taught. His arms snaked around your waist, lifting you up from your ass and quickling placing you onto the conference table just behind your bodies. Wrapping your legs around his figure, your hands moved up to the back of his neck, tangling your fingers into his hair.
“God,” Javier groaned against your lips, hands fishing under your blouse. Your body reacted delightfully to his touch, only yearning for more.
“Missed you,” You mumbled. Javier unhooked your bra and pulled it away from your chest, quickly cupping your breasts as soon as they hung freely. He could feel how swollen and full they’d gotten, only causing his mouth to water.
Javier then growled, fingers twisting your nipple softly, “I need to fuck you,”
His statement caused your pussy to throb, but you quickly pushed him away, “Not in the office.”
“Why not?” He frowned, head twisting in question as he stepped backwards towards the door, locking it, “Just need to be quiet.”
Biting your lip, your morals fought a losing battle as the man began unbuttoning his top and slowly stepping towards your seated figure. He returned to the same position he was before, securing your legs around his waist once more. He then guided your arms up, taking off your blouse, allowing your bra to fall off in the process.
You heard him softly groan at the sight of your breasts before he leaned over, lips meeting the delicate skin of your nipple, sucking and biting tenderly. Tossing your head back in pleasure, you felt as the man began to grind his hips into your own, hard cock pressing up uncomfortably against his tight jeans.
Reaching down, you rubbed him through the denim, causing him to falter in his movements, “Christ, hermosa,”
Finding the hem of your pants, the man slipped his hand in past your underwear feeling the full bush of your pussy before his fingertips met your clit. Accidentally moaning at the sensation, Javier quickly put his hand up to your mouth, covering it gently. Your arousal only caused his cock to throb harder.
Unzipping his jeans, he freed himself and gave his dick a few pumps, grumbling lowly, “Gonna fuck you,”
“Please,” You pleaded against his other hand, which was still covering your mouth.
Lifting your ass up off of the table momentarily, the man slid your pants and underwear down, exposing your pussy for him to enjoy. Mouth watering at the sight, he dropped to his knees, quickly dipping his tongue deep into your core. Biting your lip to repress the sounds of pleasure you wanted to spew, your lower belly grew hot with pleasure as Javier sucked your clit harshly and slid two fingers in.
“Oh- God, Javi-” You whimpered, one of your hands lifting from the table and tangling into his hair. You could hardly see him over your pregnant belly, making the reach a little difficult. The man hummed against your pussy, pleased with how well you were responding to him. Recalling the last time you had sex, your bodies naturally seemed to understand each other perfectly; and it seems it’s happening this time as well.
With his tongue working expertly against your clit, your pussy clenched around his fingers. He could feel that you were getting close to coming, and picked up his pace in combination with sucking your little bundle of nerves more harshly.
“Cum for me, cariño.” You heard Javier growl, just before you couldn’t take it anymore and felt your orgasm wash through your entire body.
The man wasted no time licking you clean before standing back up, quickly plunging his cock deep into heat. His hand covered your mouth once more, silencing the yelp of pleasure that was leaving your lips. Thrusting his hips, the man fucked you roughly on the conference table, causing it to shake with the movements. You could feel every inch as he did so, only adding to your pleasure.
Balancing your weight onto one hand, you moved the other down to your clit and rubbed feverishly, throwing your head back in pleasure. Clenching around the man's cock at the sensation, he groaned softly, faltering his thrusts slightly before continuing.
“Fuck you feel so fucking tight. If you weren’t already pregnant, I’d do it again.” He grumbled as one of his hands rested on your belly, helping move your body to the rhythm of his thrusts, “Your pussy feels that good.”
Your second orgasm caught you by surprise, the man's words luring you there quickly. Javier’s own orgasm followed closely behind, your cunt clenching around his cock, milking him thoroughly. His head tossed back in pleasure, continuing to thrust lazily until you both became too sensitive at the feeling.
“Fuck,” Javier cursed while tucking himself back into his jeans, still breathing heavily. His button-down remained open, deliciously showing off his gleaming, sweat covered chest. You paused at the sight, biting your lip, before slipping off the table and collecting yourself as well.
“We should get back to work,” You murmured, embarrassment slowly setting in, now realizing you just fucked Javier in a very inappropriate place. Anyone could’ve knocked on the door or windows; and what if it happened to be Steve or the Ambassador?
Instead of responding vocally, Javier only nodded, eyeing your frame up and down as he buttoned his shirt back up.
